LaMoyne (Jake) Jackson passed away September 4, 2026, at the age of 89, at his home in Hill City, Kansas surrounded by family.
LaMoyne was born April 20, 1937, on a rural farmstead north of Hill City, Kansas to Clifford Clair and Thelma Claudine (Cook) Jackson. LaMoyne attended a country school through second grade. He was enrolled in Hill City Elementary School as a third grader in 1947 and graduated from Hill City High School in the class of 1956. He was very active in sports and participated in track, baseball, basketball, and football. He was an active member of FFA all four years of high school and served as an officer his senior year. After graduation, LaMoyne married Patty Triplett. To this union a son, Duce, was born. They later divorced. Then in 1964 he met the love of his life and soul mate, Wanda Muriel Shearer. They were married November 28, 1965, and from this union four daughters were born: Tina, Kandi, Kristi and Darcy. In November, they would have been married for 61 years.
LaMoyne was a “Jack of all Trades”. He was an electrician, for the City of Hill City, a talented mechanic of all things, avid gardener, artist, and fisherman. Last but not least, was his love of the oilfield where he spent the last 40 plus years of his career. He began working in the oilfield in the early 1970’s. This career path led him to start his own business in 1975, “Jakes’s Contract Pumping”. Together he and his wife grew their business into a successful company. While Jake worked endless hours in the field, Wanda took care of the office side of things and together they were unstoppable. He absolutely loved his job. He reluctantly retired in 2017 at the age of 80.
Jake was a family man and took great pride in caring and providing for his family. He especially loved being “Grandpa”. He loved his time spent with them, and he relished taking family vacations and showing what each state had to offer. His singing of “Elvira” on those trips was always a highlight for all. He especially loved listening to music and dancing. Spending time with his grandkids and teaching them all to fish was one of his greatest prides. Jake laughed, joked and had fun, but work was always the foundation of everything he did. Jake was the hardest working man ever.
LaMoyne was preceded in death by his eldest daughter Tina Jackson; his parents Clifford and Thelma Jackson; two brothers Lilbern and Royce Jackson, and his sister Jenna Rae (Jackson) Garrison.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Jackson of Hill City, his son Duce Jackson of Bogue, three daughters: Kandi Jackson of Hays, Kristi Jackson of Denver, Colorado, and Darcy (Eric) Schmitt of Hays; Five grandchildren: Corey Jackson of Hoisington, Craig Jackson of New Braunfels, Texas, Jasmine (Tyler) Gnad of Kansas City, Missouri, Dylan Schmitt of Victoria, and Cole Schmitt of Hays; two great grandchildren: Kendall Jackson of New Braunfels, Texas, and Ivy Gnad of Kansas City, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews that he adored.
