Edna Stecklein age 93, of Hays, Kansas passed
away on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Via Christi Village Ridge Facility Assisted
Living in Wichita, Kansas.

She was born on April 19, 1932, to Peter
J. and Sophie (Dreiling) Rome.&nbsp; She married August C. Stecklein on
September 29, 1951, at Victoria, Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on
November 19, 1992.

Edna was a homemaker, a mother, and a
grandma.&nbsp; She was a cashier at Wal-Mart, a&nbsp; member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays V.F.W.
Auxiliary Post #9076, Victoria Daughters of Isabella, and a longtime volunteer
at the Hays Community Assistance Center.&nbsp; She enjoyed bingo, gardening,
dancing, and in her earlier years she was an avid bowler at The Hays
Bowl.&nbsp; Her pride and joy was her family, and being a grandma. 

Edna is survived by her children, David
Stecklein and wife, Kim, Wichita, KS; Danny&nbsp;Stecklein and wife, Marla, Hays, KS; Sherri Dawson and
husband, Mark, Wichita, KS; her grandchildren, Sara High and husband, Joe; Andy
Stecklein; Hollie Butler and husband, Chris; Craig Dawson and wife, Megan; her
great grandchildren, Theo and Juniper Butler; Millie, Parker, Kate and Claire
Dawson; Matthew and Emma High; her step grandchildren, Bryce Wasinger; Taylor
Wasinger and wife, Alex; her step great grandchildren, Weston and Joshua
Wasinger.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter
J. and Sophie Rome; her husband, August Stecklein; her brothers, Emery Rome;
Elmer Rome; Marvin Rome, and Bernard Rome.

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00
A.M. Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1805
Vine Street, Hays, Kansas with Celebrant, Father Nick Parker.&nbsp; Burial will
be in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Hays, Kansas.

 A Daughters of Isabella Rosary, and a
V.F.W. Auxiliary Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Wednesday, followed
by a Vigil Service at 6:30 P.M. Wednesday, all at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of
Hays. 

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M.
Wednesday, and from 9:00 to 9:45 A.M. Thursday, all at Cline’s-Keithley
Mortuary of Hays.

Edna Stecklein

Virginia Ann Ziegler, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded
by her family on May 7, 2025, at the Sheridan County Health Complex.

Virginia was born on September 22, 1942, in Southeast
Sheridan County, Kansas, to Jake Earl James and Melvina Goff James. She
attended Hoxie Public Schools and graduated from Sheridan Community High School
in 1960. On June 9, 1962, she married the love of her life, Virgil Ziegler, in
Hoxie. In January 1964, they moved to their farm outside of Park, Kansas, where
they raised their family and built a life together.

A lifelong learner, Virginia earned a Bachelor of Science
degree in Home Economics from Fort Hays State University in 1988, and later, a
Master of Science in Dietetics and Nutrition from Kansas State University. She
dedicated her professional life to the field of nutrition, first as the
Registered Dietitian at Gove County Medical Center in Quinter, Kansas, and
later as a consulting traveling dietitian serving numerous county hospitals and
facilities throughout northwest and southwest Kansas until her retirement in
2016. She served as President of the State Board of Dietitians and was honored
with various awards for her contributions to the profession.

Virginia found joy in music, especially playing the piano,
baking homemade goods for family and friends, traveling, and always seeking out
a good casino or the next winning lottery scratcher.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Virgil of Park; her
three children: Kevin Ziegler of Elkins, AR; Cynthia (Rob) Bieberle of Colby,
KS; and Patti (Shay) Ziegler of Phoenix, AZ. She also leaves behind three
beloved grandchildren: Anna Ziegler, Zell (Alysha) Bieberle, and Tayler (Mason)
Wright; and one cherished great-grandchild, Quinn Bieberle.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, four
brothers—Jake E. Jr., Marvin, Darwin “Dale,” and Don—and her sister, Charlotte.

Visitation will be held at Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home in
Hoxie, Kansas, on Monday, May 12, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM&nbsp; and
family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A graveside service will be
held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at St. Frances Cabrini Cemetery,
Hoxie.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the

Margie Ann Legleiter, 71, Hays, died Thursday, May 8, 2025
at Via Christi Village.

She was born December 11, 1953 in Hays, the daughter of
Julius and Mary Rose (Dreher) Legleiter.&nbsp;
She graduated from Marian High School in 1972 and earned Hotel-Motel
Management certification from LaSalle University.&nbsp; She greatly enjoyed working in the
hospitality industry and excelled in it.&nbsp;
She loved serving people and working side-by-side with her family for 35
years at Midway Motel, and then working as a desk clerk at Hays Super8 for 15
years, retiring in 2022.&nbsp; Margie also
took on the daunting task of being a caregiver for two brothers with special
needs, especially after her father’s passing.&nbsp;
She enjoyed short road trips, her convertible car, an occasional glass
of wine, and generously helping anyone in need.&nbsp;
Margie possessed a deeply devout Catholic faith, was a member of
Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, regularly watched EWTN, and was
godmother to many nieces.&nbsp; Margie’s list
of accomplishments in life were endless, her shoes will never be filled, and
she will be greatly missed.&nbsp; May
perpetual light shine upon her and may she rest in peace.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 

Survivors include her brothers, Bill Legleiter, Dan
Legleiter, Roger Legleiter, Tim Legleiter and wife Rita, Marty Legleiter, and

Margie Ann Legleiter

James Earl Hinkhouse passed away at the age of 91 on May 4,
2025, with his wife Susan Hinkhouse by his side at Ascension Living Via Christi
Village. Jim was born in Hays, KS, on June 5, 1933, to Earl Dewey and Myrtle
Alice (Noah) Hinkhouse. He spent his childhood and teenage years in Palco, KS,
where his family owned the local grocery store. He often reminisced about those
days, sharing stories of helping out with the family business. Jim attended
school in Palco, graduating in 1951.

After high school, he
continued his education at Fort Hays College, graduating in 1955 with a degree
in Fine Arts Education. His plans to pursue a master’s degree were put on hold
when he was drafted into the Armed Services. He served in the United States
Navy, stationed in San Diego, CA, and Whidbey Island, North Oak, WA. Upon
returning from service, he resumed his studies at Fort Hays College, earning a
Master of Fine Arts.

Jim began his teaching
career in Wichita, KS, where he taught elementary school art and met his future
wife, Judith Davey. They married on July 31, 1960. He later taught at Wichita
Heights High School before continuing his education at the University of Kansas,
where he earned a second Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture.

Following his studies,
Jim accepted his first university faculty position at Marysville College in
Marysville, MO, where he taught ceramics. In 1965, he had the opportunity to
return to Fort Hays State College as an art professor, teaching sculpture and jewelry
design. Over the decades, he was known not just for his talent, but for the way
he supported, hosted, and guided generations of art students—many of whom
remained in touch throughout his life.

While living in Hays,
Jim and Judy welcomed two daughters, Julie Ann and Jami Jo. Both daughters went
on to become art teachers themselves—Julie at the middle-school level, and Jami
in elementary education. Though Jim and Judy’s paths eventually diverged, they
remained connected through their shared commitment to family and art.

On July 13, 1990, Jim
married Susan Elniff, and together they made their home in Hays, KS. Jim
continued his tenure at Fort Hays State University until retiring in 1996.

Beyond his professional
legacy, Jim was known for his many passions and distinctive character. He loved
boating and sailing with his family—and could even ski on one ski. A licensed
pilot and lifelong aviation enthusiast, he not only flew planes himself, but
would seek out the aviation section of every museum he visited (often out of
his way), and delighted in sharing plane-related social media videos with his
grandkids.

Jim also had a great
love for extended road trips. He always insisted on driving—not just for the
joy of the journey, but because he could never pack light and wanted room to
bring back anything he found along the way that might become part of a future art
project. Whether it was a rusty gear, a slab of wood, or a piece of discarded
metal, Jim saw artistic potential in nearly everything.

Equally memorable was
his gift for conversation. Jim was the kind of person who talked with strangers
everywhere he went—not just in passing, but with genuine interest and warmth.
He loved sharing stories, and just as importantly, he loved hearing them.

After retirement, Jim
remained active in the art world, creating many sculptures for public and
private collections. He also transitioned from full-scale flying to the world
of radio-controlled airplanes, continuing to combine his passion for flight and
craftsmanship well into his later years.

Jim is survived by his
wife Susan of the home; daughter Jami (Ryan) Brannen of Scottsdale, AZ;
stepdaughter Susanna (Dave) Stout of Randall, KS; grandchildren Lola
Villalpando-Hinkhouse of Oceanside, CA, and Julian Brannen of Scottsdale, AZ;
as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in
death by his parents, Earl and Myrtle; daughter Julie Ann; sister Jo Eva
McClellan; and brother-in-law Robert McClellan.

He will be remembered
by family, friends, former students, and colleagues for his love of art,
flying, storytelling, and time on the lake.&nbsp;

A Celebration of Life
will be held at a later date.&nbsp;

James Earl Hinkhouse

James R. Baird was
born on April 29,1955 in Brownsville, TX. One of four children, James was the
third-born child to Leland R. and Betty (Dickinson) Baird. He passed away on
May 6, 2025, surrounded by his family at the Norton County Hospital.

Jim grew up in
Logan, a small town of 500 people in northwest Kansas. He excelled in sports
and was selected in 1971 as the Kansas First-Team All-State quarterback in all classes. After high school, Jim graduated from Kansas State
University in 1977 with a degree in political science. Once he graduated from
college, Jim returned to work for the family business, Baird Oil Inc., which
continues to this day. Baird Oil is a highly respected oil operator in the
immediate four-county area surrounding Logan. He became the president of the
family business in 2004 where over the next 10 years, Jim led with his hard
work and passion. No one could find oil like Jim, and his dedication and
knowledge allowed him to drill 126 oil wells that alone provided enough energy to
satisfy the fuel needs of Norton County’s economy.

Jim married his
best friend and soulmate, Leslie L. Hartman, on December 17, 1983.
After seven long years of trying for a family, they were blessed with their

born, it became clear to me why I was born.” Jim dedicated his life to
providing, protecting, and loving Leslie and Laura Lee. Every decision he made
was made in the best interest of his family. He loved hard and never faltered
in showing just how much he loved his family, and did the same for his
grandchildren, Liam James and Cora Grace.

This year, Leslie
and Jim celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary. Leslie was his
soulmate, the love of his life, and he called her his most treasured asset.
Their secret to a long and loving relationship were 3 principles - hard work,
commitment, and celebration. Leslie and Jim personified these principles.

Over the last 10
years, Jim would take long, sunrise walks in all kinds of weather at Prairie
Dog State Park. He loved to observe nature, and he journaled about the
predictable migratory patterns of birds. He also enjoyed watching all of nature’s courtship rituals, the raising of their offspring, and
all of nature’s wonders. 

Jim’s favorite saying comes from the musician James Taylor: “The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time.”

Jim is survived by
his wife, Leslie; daughter, Laura Lee (Andrew) Murillo of Norton;
grandchildren: Liam and Cora, and mother, Betty Baird of Logan, KS. He was
preceded in death by his father. 

A Celebration of
Life will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at the First United
Methodist Church in Norton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be
made to the Norton County Hospital to help with the purchase of the diagnostic
machine, Falcon Xpress F5. This was important to Jim because throughout his
battle with cancer, he wanted to give back to the supportive staff at Norton

born on April 29,1955 in Brownsville, TX. One of four children, James was the
third-born child to Leland R. and Betty (Dickinson) Baird. He passed away on
May 6, 2025, surrounded by his family at the Norton County Hospital.Jim grew up in
Logan, a small town of 500 people in northwest Kansas. He excelled in sports
and was selected in 1971 as the Kansas First-Team All-State quarterback in all classes. After high school, Jim graduated from Kansas State
University in 1977 with a degree in political science. Once he graduated from
college, Jim returned to work for the family business, Baird Oil Inc., which
continues to this day. Baird Oil is a highly respected oil operator in the
immediate four-county area surrounding Logan. He became the president of the
family business in 2004 where over the next 10 years, Jim led with his hard
work and passion. No one could find oil like Jim, and his dedication and
knowledge allowed him to drill 126 oil wells that alone provided enough energy to
satisfy the fuel needs of Norton County’s economy.Jim married his
best friend and soulmate, Leslie L. Hartman, on December 17, 1983.
After seven long years of trying for a family, they were blessed with their
only child, Laura

James R. Baird

Sophie
(Depperschmidt) Ochs, 96 of Park, Kansas, passed away on May 5th,
2025, at the Sheridan County Long Term Care Facility, Hoxie, Kansas. She was
born to Alex and Josephine (Younger) Depperschmidt on July 11, 1928, at the
family farm in Sheridan County.

Sophie
attended country school grades 1st to 6th in Sheridan
County. She experienced living in a sod house for a couple of years and rode a
horse with her brother to school. In 7th grade the family moved to
Hoxie where she attended public school. Sophie then moved to Park where she
attended school from 8th to 12th grade. She graduated
from Park High School in 1946.

She
worked as a bookkeeper for the Park Elevator and helped her dad with the
janitorial duties at the Park Grade School. In her single years, she loved
listening to the radio to hear the top ten songs on the Hit Parade, going to
movies, and attending Collyer dances.

On
May 4, 1949, Sophie was united in marriage to her classmate, Billy G. Ochs, at
the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Park. Sophie and Billy were married for 71
years and blessed with six daughters. She was widowed on January 5, 2021.

Sophie
was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Park and a member
of the Park Altar Society. She was a devout Catholic with a deep devotion to
the Blessed Virgin Mary, Infant Jesus of Prague, the Divine Jesus of Mercy, and
St. Teresa the Little Flower. Sophie prayed the rosary believing in the power
of prayer. 

Sophie
treasured time spent with her family, especially the grandchildren, and the
great- grandchildren. She spent many hours with them cooking, baking, reading
books, playing cards, and playing board games. She also enjoyed keeping up with
family and friends with telephone calls, home visits, reunions, or just meeting
others on the street. No one ever left her house hungry or in need of a hug.
Her advice and support will be cherished forever. Her favorite day of the week
was Sunday because of attending Mass and family visits.

Sophie
will be greatly missed by her family, friends and her daughters: Beverly
(Darold) Zimmerman, Darlene (Melvern) Zimmerman, Kay Ann (Larry) Schmidt, Jo
Ann (Ronald) Zimmerman, Shirley Ochs, and Marilyn (Larry) Heier, 14
grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. 

She
was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Billy G. Ochs; brothers: Victor

Joseph Brungardt, 55, of Grinnell, died Monday, May 5, 2025. He was born
September 4, 1969, in Hoxie, KS, to Elmer and Twona (Zerr) Brungardt. David was
a 1988 graduate of Grinnell High School. He was a lifelong farmer and rancher
and enjoyed gardening, flowers, building fence and caring for his cows. David
was very kindhearted, and he loved children. 

David
was preceded in death by his father Elmer, his brother Robert, grandparents,
Uncle Van and Aunt Gaye Zerr, Uncle Edwin Brungardt, brother-in-law Tim Mong,
and his mother’s companion, Bill Frerichs.

David
is survived by his mother Twona; siblings, Curtis Brungardt, Marilyn Mong,
Donna (Leon) Tuttle, Uncle Kenny Brungardt, nephews and nieces, cousins and his

David Joseph Brungardt

In Loving Memory April Kay Clark passed forward on February
1, 2025 at her home in Hill City, Kansas, surrounded by her beloved family and
her cherished cats. She was 78 years old. 

She is survived by her sons, Jason Shelton, Hoxie, Jordan
Shelton, Portland, OR., a grandson Latham Shelton, Portland, OR., her sister
and brother-in-law, Roberta Clark Meckel and Mark Meckel, Nashville, TN.,
nephew Nathan Meckel and wife Marianne, and niece Abra Niemiec and husband Mark
all of Nashville, TN, great nieces and nephews Sofia and Cohen Meckel, and
Silas and Emma Niemiec all of Nashville, TN. She was preceded in death by her
parents W. Kenneth Clark and Lorraine Latham Clark of Hill City.

Born on May 11, 1946, in Topeka, Kansas, Kay spent her early
childhood in Hoxie, her father having moved there to start his law practice. At
the age of 7 she moved with her family to Hill City, where she attended local
schools, graduating from Hill City High School in 1964. Even during her school
years, Kay’s love for language arts was evident as she contributed a weekly
column to the Hill City Times. 

She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in speech pathology
and special education from Fort Hays State University, later completing a
master’s degree in education. Kay spent many years teaching special education
in the Hill City school system, where she was known for her dedication,
compassion, and unwavering commitment to her students. She was honored as
“Educator of the Year” by the Northwest Kansas Council for Exceptional
Children, Chapter No. 892, and also served as the chapter’s Membership Chairperson.

Kay’s passion for her community was evident throughout her
life. She worked with the Graham County Arts Council, coordinating school and
library arts programs, sang in the Graham County Chorus, which performed an
annual Easter Cantata, and was a volunteer for many other activities in the
community. She was an active member of the Hill City Presbyterian Church,
participating in many church events, including the Presbyterian Centennial
Auction.

She later became Principal of The Beamgard Learning Center
in Atwood, Kansas. She also served as a board member of High Plains Public
Radio, where she was recognized for her support of public broadcasting,
particularly through fundraising and membership drives.

Kay moved to Wichita, where she taught for a decade at Judge
Riddel’s Boys Ranch, a residential school for adjudicated youth and part of the
Wichita School System. She taught there until its closure. She attended the
Wichita – Sedgwick County Law Enforcement Citizen Police Academy, and continued
serving the community through volunteer work related to public safety. 

Kay loved teaching and viewed each student as a unique,
developing person with individual talents and skills. She looked forward to IEP
(Individualized Educational Program) meetings because she truly believed each
student should receive a coordinated plan to meet the educational needs of the
individual student, recognizing the strengths and challenges of each student,
thus helping to set goals and rewards for that student. She talked respectfully
and affectionatly about her students long after she quit teaching. She truly
cared for each student as an individual and was excited for each and every
student who made strides toward their goals. Kay retired from teaching in 2009.
After a brief retirement adjustment……….the fun began.

Kay was a voracious reader from an early age, checking out
stacks of books from the public library on a weekly basis began in early grade
school. She had a deep interest in local history and in her high school years
could often be found exploring old 1800’s cemeteries in and around Graham
County. She was always saddened to see tombstones of an entire family who had
died from epidemics such as small pox, diphtheria, measles, etc. 

Kay was always fascinated by “old things,” and loved to hear
stories about her pioneer great-grandparents who settled in Sheridan County.
She began collecting antique furniture, glassware, dishes, clothing items,
photos, and many others. While teaching in Hill City, she and two friends
opened an antique store. This gave her reason (or an excuse) to go to auctions
and estate sales all over western Kansas. She began to collect specific items
keen to her interests including old post cards, miniatures, watches, jewelry –
especially brooches, photos, and period clothing. 

Kay came to be known by the brooches (some would say gaudy
brooches) she wore on a daily basis. In fact, Kay was rarely seen without a
big, colorful, gaudy, antique brooch. Her brooches initiated conversation -
many times with total strangers, occasionally catalyzing new friendships. Some
people failed to admire her fine ornaments, but others appreciated her love for
the weird pins she wore. She had a relationship with each brooch and would
willingly give historic information about each one.

Kay also collected antitque watches, i.e., Vintage, Art
Noveau style, Modern, Classic, Pocket, etc, and of course they all had to be
wound by hand. In addition, she collected old and antique clocks such as Parlor
Shelf clocks, Mantle clocks, Bombay clocks, Wall Clocks, and Cuckoo clocks. She
had a beautiful grandfather clock, built by her son Jason. At one period in her
life, she had fourteen large clocks in her house. They all had multiple parts
and each required a unique winding method on a daily basis, some with special
keys, others with chains. The cuckoos sounded every hour. But at the stroke of
midnight, every night….it sounded like a concert in her house with all clocks
chimming at the same time. Kay understood the inner workings and knew the
history of each clock. 

Kay had always been interested in button collecting. The
last couple of decades of her life, she became much more focused (some might
say obsessed) and passionate about buttons. Many of her collection enteries in
button contests, won numerous blue ribbons, in addition to red and green
ribbons. Her wealth of information about buttons led to many speaking and
program presentations to various clubs and organizations. Kay was a member of
the National Button Society, Kansas Button Society, and the South Central Button
Club. She attended many state and national button conventions.

Of all the collections Kay had, she knew the most important
one was her collection of friends. Kay had a gift for friendship and cherished
every bond she formed. From a young age, she made friends easily and nurtured
those connections throughout her life. She kept in touch with many of her
childhood and school friends. Her high school graduating class held a special
place in her heart—she loved attending annual class reunions. 

Her circle of close friendships expanded through the years,
including deep connections with teaching colleagues and members of various
social and community groups.

Kay was an active and beloved member of book clubs, the
Unity and Presbyterian churches, and the ever-spirited Button Club. In fact,
Button Club was like family to her. 

Her life was enriched by the many friendships she
cultivated, and in return she enriched the lives of those around her. 

Kay was always in touch with her “inner child.” She was
funny and fun-loving, delighted by life’s simple pleasures, and always up for a
good surprise. Her joyful spirit was infectious—whether she was laughing with
friends, marveling at a small kindness, or bringing light-heartedness to
everyday moments, Kay had a way of making life feel a little more magical. Kay
has been described as interesting, spontaneous, quirky, wacky, upbeat,
thoughtful, helpful, and fun. She never knew a stranger—her warmth and openness
made everyone feel welcome. Whether she was sharing a laugh, telling a story,
or planning her next venture, Kay brought energy and color wherever she went.

Kay shared a special bond and heartfelt connection with each
member of her family. Though small in number, her family - supportive and
united by love, knew she was not only cherished but irreplaceable – a constant
presence whose kindness, generosity, and humor left a lasting imprint on their
lives.

Kay will be remembered for her compassion, her tireless
advocacy for students, her deep and lasting friendships, her childlike wonder,
and her ability to find joy in the little things. Her legacy lives on in the
countless lives she touched – as a teacher, mentor, friend, sister, mother and
grandmother.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 10, 2025, at
Stinemetz Funeral Home, 522 N. Pomeroy Avenue, Hill City, Kansas, at 2:00 p.m.&nbsp;

willingly give historic information about each one.Kay also collected antitque watches, i.e., Vintage, Art
Noveau style, Modern, Classic, Pocket, etc, and of course they all had to be
wound by hand. In addition, she collected old and antique clocks such as Parlor
Shelf clocks, Mantle clocks, Bombay clocks, Wall Clocks, and Cuckoo clocks. She
had a beautiful grandfather clock, built by her son Jason. At one period in her
life, she had fourteen large clocks in her house. They all had multiple parts
and each required a unique winding method on a daily basis, some with special
keys, others with chains. The cuckoos sounded every hour. But at the stroke of
midnight, every night….it sounded like a concert in her house with all clocks
chimming at the same time. Kay understood the inner workings and knew the
history of each clock. Kay had always been interested in button collecting. The
last couple of decades of her life, she became much more focused (some might
say obsessed) and passionate about buttons. Many of her collection enteries in
button contests, won numerous blue ribbons, in addition to red and green
ribbons. Her wealth of information about buttons led to many speaking and
program presentations to various clubs and organizations. Kay was a member of
the National Button Society, Kansas Button Society, and the South Central Button
Club. She attended many state and national button conventions.Of all the collections Kay had, she knew the most important
one was her collection of friends. Kay had a gift for friendship and cherished
every bond she formed. From a young age, she made friends easily and nurtured
those connections throughout her life. She kept in touch with many of her
childhood and school friends. Her high school graduating class held a special
place in her heart—she loved attending annual class reunions. Her circle of close friendships expanded through the years,
including deep connections with teaching colleagues and members of various
social and community groups.Kay was an active and beloved member of book clubs, the
Unity and Presbyterian churches, and the ever-spirited Button Club. In fact,
Button Club was like family to her. Her life was enriched by the many friendships she
cultivated, and in return she enriched the lives of those around her. Kay was always in touch with her “inner child.” She was
funny and fun-loving, delighted by life’s simple pleasures, and always up for a
good surprise. Her joyful spirit was infectious—whether she was laughing with
friends, marveling at a small kindness, or bringing light-heartedness to
everyday moments, Kay had a way of making life feel a little more magical. Kay
has been described as interesting, spontaneous, quirky, wacky, upbeat,
thoughtful, helpful, and fun. She never knew a stranger—her warmth and openness
made everyone feel welcome. Whether she was sharing a laugh, telling a story,
or planning her next venture, Kay brought energy and color wherever she went.Kay shared a special bond and heartfelt connection with each
member of her family. Though small in number, her family - supportive and
united by love, knew she was not only cherished but irreplaceable – a constant
presence whose kindness, generosity, and humor left a lasting imprint on their
lives.Kay will be remembered for her compassion, her tireless
advocacy for students, her deep and lasting friendships, her childlike wonder,
and her ability to find joy in the little things. Her legacy lives on in the
countless lives she touched – as a teacher, mentor, friend, sister, mother and
grandmother.A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 10, 2025, at
Stinemetz Funeral Home, 522 N. Pomeroy Avenue, Hill City, Kansas, at 2:00 p.m.&nbsp;

Edmond Leo Jordan,&nbsp; 80, passed away April 30, 2025, at Mitchell
County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas, surrounded by his loving family. Ed was born
February 23, 1945, in Hays, Kansas, to Harold “Tuffy” Clifford Jordan and Neola
“Blondie” Darlene Westhusin.&nbsp;

Ed spent his early years
in Plainville, Kansas, before moving with his family to Colorado and Utah,
following his father’s work in the oil fields. The family settled in Pratt,
where Ed graduated from Pratt High School in 1963.

He began his career in
the feedlots around Salina, where he reconnected with Norma Thompson. They
married&nbsp; May 30, 1965, in Plainville. In
1966, Ed enlisted in the U.S. Navy and graduated from dental tech school in San
Diego before being stationed in Newport, Rhode Island. On November 12, 1968,
they moved to Hawaii where he served as a medic attached to the Marines flying
from Hawaii to Vietnam to pick up and care for the wounded.&nbsp;

Throughout his life, Ed
wore many hats. He was a partner in a sale barn in Syracuse,&nbsp; managed ranches in Colorado for Travelers
Insurance, and served as the State Brand Inspector for Colorado. In 1980, the
family returned to Plainville, where Ed helped his brother-in-law Tracy build
and operate Thompson Cattle Company, specializing in registered bulls. In 1987,
they moved to Gem, Kansas, where he managed the Halford Cattle Company feed
yard for 13 years.

Though he planned to
retire, Ed returned to work following Norma’s cancer diagnosis and untimely
death. He managed the High Plains Co-op fertilizer plant in Selden and later
hauled grain - a job that would bring him to Lenora. There he met Peggy
Ninemire and Tom Gerlits, who introduced him to Bonny.

Ed and Bonny were united
in marriage November 9, 2009, at Coffin Rock Ranch. They made their home in
Lenora for most of their married life before recently relocating to Delphos,
where they worked tirelessly side by side to remodel their new home.

Ed was warmly welcomed
into Bonny’s large family, and he embraced every one of them as his own. He and
Bonny loved traveling, with Australia and Alaska among their favorite
adventures. They cherished time at Marion County Lake, especially family
reunions when everyone could be together. But Ed’s greatest joy came from his
grandchildren, attending their activities, cheering them on, and telling anyone
who’d listen how proud he was.

He was also a storyteller.
Some of the family’s favorites included discovering a container of boxing
trophies during a move. When asked about them, Ed stated that while in the Service
they were looking for entertainment for the men, so they offered a steak dinner
on Saturday night for anyone willing to box on Friday night. “I liked steak, so
I got pretty good at boxing!” Ed quipped. He also loved recounting his days
riding PRCA bucking horses. But his favorite stories were always the ones about
his grandkids.

Ed was preceded in death
by his parents, his first wife, Norma (Thompson) Jordan, and his brother, Dean
Jordan. He is survived by his wife, Bonny Jordan, of the home in Delphos; his
sister, Pam Lyle and her husband Buck of Hutchinson; daughters Chavonne Schmidt
and granddaughter Ciara Garnett of Ellis, and Chanelle Jordan of Wichita. He is
also survived by his extended family of stepchildren: Stacey (Jarrod) Jones of
Hays, Kelly (Andrea) Day of Smith Center, Wendy (Brad) Keith of Bogue, Dustin
Day of Lenora, Brandi (Ryan) Duskie of Glen Elder, Jessi (Cameron) Walker of
Delphos, and Akiko (Robert) Segarra of Harveyville; along with many beloved
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ed will be remembered for his hard work,
sense of humor, deep love for his family, and the legacy of kindness, humility,
and grit that he leaves behind.

There will be a
celebration of Ed’s life Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Cowboy
Junction in Hill City, Kansas. Bonny requests that people attending should
dress casually. Memorial contributions may be made in Ed’s honor to Mitchell
County Regional Medical Foundation and may be sent in care of Stinemetz Funeral

Cathey Ellen Critchfield, 77, of Plainville, Kansas, passed
away peacefully at Redbud Nursing Home, Sunday, May 4, 2025. Cathey was born
January 10, 1948, in Denver, Colorado to Jack and Florence Davidson. She
attended North High School&nbsp; in Denver
before graduating from Arapahoe High School in Littleton, Colorado in 1966. She
later graduated as valedictorian from Orchid Beauty Academy School of
Cosmetology in Denver in 1967. Cathey went on to own her own beauty shops
throughout the years in Canton, Kansas, Palco, Kansas, and Morland, Kansas. Any
spare time she had was often spent in her garden. April 13, 1973, Cathey
married Darrell Crichfield in Denver.

Cathey was preceded in death by her
husband Darrell; her parents Jack and Florence Davidson; son Dennis
Critchfield; grandson Josh Critchfield; and great granddaughter Kayla Soderberg.
She is survived by her sons:&nbsp; Doug
Critchfield and Dan Critchfield, both of Grand Junction, Colorado, Don
Critchfield of Mesa, Arizona, and Lane Victorson of Baltimore, Maryland; her
daughter Lana (Don) Barton of Morland, Kansas; 12 grandchildren and many great

Rueben
J Urban, 88, of Loretto, KS passed away on May 3, 2025 at home surrounded by
his loving family.



Rueben was born on October 24, 1936 on the family farm northwest of Loretto,
the son of Frank and Rosalia (Breit) Urban. He was a lifelong resident of Rush
County.



Rueben was a proud Bison Buffalo, graduating in the Bison High School class of
1954. He attended Brown Mackie College in Salina, KS. He joined the United
States Army in 1955 was stationed in Germany, and honorably discharged two
years later. He was pleased to share his time in service with his brother Al
and always shared stories from this time in his life with great fondness.



On June 2, 1962, on a rainy day, Rueben married the love of his life, Virginia
Engel at St. Mary’s, Loretto, KS. They were just one month shy of celebrating
their 63rd wedding anniversary.



Farming, family, and friends were the center of Rueben’s life. He was well
loved in his community, possessed a gentle demeanor, and could easily strike up
a conversation with anyone he met. He was a member of the National Farming
Organization, Knights of Columbus, and American Legion. He loved baseball and
played for many teams including the Loretto Blue Jays, Bison Buffalos, Larned,
Osborne, Salina, and even the Army baseball team while stationed in Germany. He
was a loyal Royals fan and enjoyed watching them until the end. He enjoyed
playing cards and was indeed lucky in cards and in life. Rueben was a barbecue
master and enjoyed smoking jerky and even prepared whole hogs for parties and
celebrations. Some additional hobbies included gardening, bowling, golfing, and
fishing. Although he was a hard worker, he always took time to appreciate the
simple pleasures in life. His greatest joy came from his family, spending each
day with his wife, and watching his children, grandchildren, and great
grandchildren grow.



Survivors include: his wife, Virginia Urban, Loretto, KS, son-in-law, Lynn
Lichter, Topeka, KS, one son, Ken (Melanie) Urban, Loretto, KS; two daughters,
Karin Cross (Christopher) Alexandria, VA, and Kristen Janda (Jeff), Blue Hill,
NE; eleven grandchildren, Andrew (Erin) Lichter, Erin Lichter, Brett Lichter,
Blake Cross, Brock Cross, Kole (Ashley) Urban, Kade Urban, Ellie Janda, Owen
Janda, Claire Janda, and Kate Janda; four great grandchildren, Remi and Kollie
Urban, and Beckett and Parker Lichter; and one sister, Arlene Stramel (Gary),
Hays, KS.


He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Al Urban, his daughter,
Kyle Lichter, and granddaughter, Millie Janda.



The funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 9, 2025, at the St. Mary’s
Help of Christians Shrine, Loretto, Kansas.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a
combined vigil and rosary service at 7:00 p.m. Friday visitation will be from
9:30 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. all at St. Mary’s Help of Christians Shrine, Loretto,
Kansas.

Wayne “Jerry” Frank, 92, died May 2, 2025, at Via Christi Village in Hays.



Jerry was born on May 29, 1932, in Hays, to Frederick “Fritz” and Crescentia
“Chris” (Glassman) Frank. He lived in Fairport during his early years, moving
to Hays when he was four years old. As a young man, he mowed lawns and managed
the second-largest newspaper route in town, with over 100 papers.



He spent his freshman year of high school in a seminary in Pennsylvania, then
returned to Hays to finish his education at St. Joseph’s Military Academy,
graduating in 1950. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States
Army. Jerry was called into active duty in August of 1950, and served in the
Korean War for 18 months. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with six
Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, and a Meritorious Unit
Commendation. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1952.



After the war, Jerry returned to Hays and his job as a bottle machine operator
at the Dr. Pepper Bottling Company. He later embarked on a 38-year career at
Premier Wine and Spirits (previously State Distributors), where he began as a
warehouse and delivery man and worked his way up to warehouse manager before
retiring in 1992.


Jerry was a devout Catholic, deeply devoted to the Blessed Mother, and a living
embodiment of humility and generosity. His entire life was dedicated to taking
care of others, from his grandparents, his mother, and his brothers to his
aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. When his home wasn’t buzzing with family,
it was the site of pinochle games and long porch talks with friends he’d known
since childhood. He loved fishing at Kirwin Reservoir, gave away the best
vegetables from his large garden and the most beautiful flowers from his
greenhouse, and appreciated a simple bowl of ice cream. He was a loyal fan of
Royals baseball, Jayhawks basketball, and Chiefs football.



Jerry is survived by his cousins Terry Glassman, Belinda Hartman, Susan Meyers,
Martha (Donald) Lang, John (Rhonda) Glassman, Rick (Cheryl) Glassman, Mike
(Sandy) Glassman, Mark (Dee) Glassman, and Chris Glassman; his sister-in-law,
Lana Frank; and his nieces and nephews Michelle McRae, Jennifer Whitmer,
Melanie (Henry) Moss, Amy (Troy) Stump, Mike (Angel) Frank, Rachel (Craig) Staab,
Heather (Cory) Myers, Patrick (Amanda Brown) Frank, Erin (Scott) Quintana,
William (Amanda) Frank, Nicole (Reese Barrick) Frank, Marisa Frank, and Eric
Frank; and as well as 30 great-nieces and nephews; and 29 great-great nieces
and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and sisters-in-law
Frederick “Jim” Frank, Robert (Sally) Frank, Harold “Hap” Frank, and Kenneth
(Andra) Frank; his niece Elizabeth Frank; his aunts and uncles Louis Glassman,
Wilfred Glassman, Daniel (Faye) Glassman, Eugene “Dusty” (Marguerite) Glassman,
Marcella “Sally” (Teddy) Smith, Marietta (Phonse) Ruder, Robert (Mary Frances)
Glassman, Florian “Bunch” (Reita) Glassman, and Elmo Glassman; and his many
loyal, cherished cousins.



Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, May 8, 2025 at St. Joseph's
Catholic Church in Hays. Burial with military honors will follow in the St.
Joseph's Cemetery. Fr. Fred Gatschet and Fr. Harvey Dinkel will officiate.



Visitation will be Wednesday 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM with a combined parish vigil and
rosary service at 7:00 PM. Thursday visitation will be 9:00 AM - 9:30 AM all at
Keithley Funeral Homes and Crematory-Brock's Chapel 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601.

Gerald Wayne 'Jerry' Frank

Larry L. Chambers, age 86, of
Rexford, Kansas, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

Larry was born on June 12, 1938, in Colby,
Kansas, to Herman Chambers and Lily Owens Chambers (later Plummer). He
graduated from Levant High School in 1958 and proudly served in the U.S. Army
attending basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and then serving at
Fort Riley.

On February 27, 1960, Larry married the love
of his life, D. Dorine Alleman. They built their life together raising three
daughters: Dori, Dawn, and LaRisa.

Larry had a diverse and dedicated work
life—moving mobile homes, working in auto body repair and painting at Lyle’s
Body Shop, serving as an insurance salesman and later as a district manager for
Mutual of Omaha, and managing rental properties. Even after retirement, he
continued to work, staying active at Dillons and Comfort Inn.

A true handyman, Larry had a knack for fixing
anything. He loved to “tinker”. He enjoyed working on cars, meticulously caring
for his yard, planting trees, tending to plants and had many collections. He
loved music which he listened to often and even played the organ.&nbsp; He
donated much of his time working the sound system at the church. He was well
known for his sense of humor, his strong work ethic, and his love for his
grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his
parents, Herman Chambers and Lily Plummer, and his beloved wife of 51 years,
Dorine Chambers.

Larry is survived by his daughters Dori (Tim)
Melia of Elkhart, KS; Dawn (Tom) Stephens of Colby, KS; and LaRisa Chambers of
Sacramento, CA; grandchildren, Kyle Custer of Elkhart, Kelly Escalara of
Fountain, CO, Reed Stephens, Jill Stephens, and Grant Stephens of Colby, KS;
great granddaughter Kamryn Escalara; his sister Anna Dean Rodenbeck of Colby,
KS; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 5, from
12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Colby United Methodist Church, followed by the funeral

Larry L. Chambers

Allen Cyril Pfeifer, age 89, of Hays, Kansas, formerly of St.
Peter, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Harry Hynes Hospice
in Wichita.

Born on February 21, 1936, in St. Peter to Frank J. and Catherine
(Dinkel) Pfeifer, Allen grew up rooted in faith, family, and the farming
traditions of western Kansas. On November 8, 1958, he married the love of his
life, Alfrieda Werth, in Antonino. Together, they built a life grounded in
love, humility, and dedication.

Allen graduated from Morland High School. He continued his studies
at Fort Hays State University and Kansas State University before returning home
to help with the family business. He also started a propane delivery service
and eventually began his own farming operation.

Allen enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, helping his
children and grandchildren with their projects as well as sharing stories. He
was a member of St. Anthony Church, St. Peter; Immaculate Heart of Mary Church,
Hays; and the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus. Allen was a humble and kind man,
who led by example and gave generously of his time and talents.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Alfrieda; his children,
Gerald Pfeifer (Marcia) of Hays, Kathleen Pfeifer of Hays, Theresa Pfeifer
(Ken) of Evergreen, Colorado, Diane Scott (Virgil) of Broomfield, Colorado, and
Donna Wallace (Jim) of Shawnee, Kansas; his grandchildren, Nicole Scott,
Allison Zimmerman (Casey), Melissa Pfeifer, Tiffany Rohleder (Joe), Garrett
Pfeifer, Jessica, Sara, and Carrie Wallace; and great-grandchildren, Xavier,

Shirley
Ann Durham was born on August 25th, 1940, to Edward and Rose (Kral)
Hamm, and sadly passed away on April 30th, 2025. She was 84 years old.&nbsp;

Shirley
was a tenacious lady, who loved life. She was smart as a whip, and could do
anything she put her mind to. She believed in telling the truth, even when
others didn't, and the world is less bright without her spark.&nbsp;

In
1958, Shirley married the love of her life, Augie. They were together 63 years
before his passing. They had two daughters together, Linda and Judy.

Shirley
was preceded in death by her love, Augie; her parents; both of her daughters;
her granddaughter, Natasha; and her cherished dog, Maggie.

She
is survived by her siblings, Karen (Denny) Jones and John (Iva) Hamm; her
sons-in-law, Floyd and Elmer; her grandchildren, Shannon, Holly (Nick), Zach
(Ashlie), and Dakota (Skyler). She was a great grandma and great-great grandma.
She also leaves behind many beloved friends at Colby Health and Rehab, who
became an extended family to her.

Shirley
will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She was truly one of a kind.

Shirley Ann Durham

Mary Joan Weigel was born on
December 8, 1940, in Russell, KS to Joseph and Eleanor (Tholen) Scheck and
passed away on April 28, 2025, in Russell Kansas at the age of 84 years, 4
months and 20 days.

Joanie grew up in Gorham, Kansas,
where she attended St. Mary Catholic School and graduated from Gorham High
School. She later earned an associate degree in business from Brown Mackie
College.&nbsp; A true jack-of-all-trades and
fantastic interior designer, Joanie brought her dedication and creativity to
every role she held. Over the years, she worked in an attorney’s office, a
lumber yard, an abstract and title company, as well as in restaurants and
retail. No matter the job, Joanie’s strong work ethic, cheerful presence, and
knack for connecting with others left a lasting impression.

Joanie was united in marriage to
Edward J Weigel on November 14,1959, and had 6 children in 8 years, David,
Deidra, Michelle, Mike, Joey, and Candace. Edward passed away on September 13,
1986, in Pratt.&nbsp; Joanie met her
significant other, Ron Arneson, and for the past 42 years they shared a life
full of love, laughter, and memories—dancing together, cheering on their
grandkids at games, and hosting cherished holiday get togethers. Most notable
was the Christmas season, when Joanie transformed their home into a holiday
wonderland with her stunning decorations and numerous beautifully adorned
trees. Her attention to detail and festive spirit made the season magical for
everyone lucky enough to be part of it.&nbsp; Joanie
was truly one of a kind—a devoted mom, Grammie, aunt, sister, and friend. She
had an unmatched talent for decorating, able to make something out of nothing
and turn the ordinary into something beautiful. Not only did she transform her
own home with warmth and creativity, but she also helped others decorate
theirs—painting rooms, hanging wallpaper, and adding her special touch wherever
it was needed. Her heart was pure gold. She prayed for everyone and lived her
life in service to others, always putting the needs of family, friends, and
community before her own.&nbsp; A deeply
faithful woman, Joanie was an active member of St. Mary’s Church in Gorham. She
played the organ, taught CCD, decorated the church for every season, and was a
proud member of the Daughters of Isabella.

Joanie was preceded in death by
her parents, Joseph and Eleanor Scheck, brother, Donald Scheck, sister Myra
Poage, brother-in-law, Jim Gould, brother-in-law, Chuck Moore, sister-in-law,
Barb Scheck, grandson, Jadyn Arneson, and great grandson Stephan Dreiling.

Catholic Cemetery in Gorham.&nbsp; The family
will be present to greet friends from 9:00 AM to Services on Thursday at the
Church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been designated to Gorham Community

December 8, 1940, in Russell, KS to Joseph and Eleanor (Tholen) Scheck and
passed away on April 28, 2025, in Russell Kansas at the age of 84 years, 4
months and 20 days.Joanie grew up in Gorham, Kansas,
where she attended St. Mary Catholic School and graduated from Gorham High
School. She later earned an associate degree in business from Brown Mackie
College.&nbsp; A true jack-of-all-trades and
fantastic interior designer, Joanie brought her dedication and creativity to
every role she held. Over the years, she worked in an attorney’s office, a
lumber yard, an abstract and title company, as well as in restaurants and
retail. No matter the job, Joanie’s strong work ethic, cheerful presence, and
knack for connecting with others left a lasting impression.Joanie was united in marriage to
Edward J Weigel on November 14,1959, and had 6 children in 8 years, David,
Deidra, Michelle, Mike, Joey, and Candace. Edward passed away on September 13,
1986, in Pratt.&nbsp; Joanie met her
significant other, Ron Arneson, and for the past 42 years they shared a life
full of love, laughter, and memories—dancing together, cheering on their
grandkids at games, and hosting cherished holiday get togethers. Most notable
was the Christmas season, when Joanie transformed their home into a holiday
wonderland with her stunning decorations and numerous beautifully adorned
trees. Her attention to detail and festive spirit made the season magical for
everyone lucky enough to be part of it.&nbsp; Joanie
was truly one of a kind—a devoted mom, Grammie, aunt, sister, and friend. She
had an unmatched talent for decorating, able to make something out of nothing
and turn the ordinary into something beautiful. Not only did she transform her
own home with warmth and creativity, but she also helped others decorate
theirs—painting rooms, hanging wallpaper, and adding her special touch wherever
it was needed. Her heart was pure gold. She prayed for everyone and lived her
life in service to others, always putting the needs of family, friends, and
community before her own.&nbsp; A deeply
faithful woman, Joanie was an active member of St. Mary’s Church in Gorham. She
played the organ, taught CCD, decorated the church for every season, and was a
proud member of the Daughters of Isabella.Joanie was preceded in death by
her parents, Joseph and Eleanor Scheck, brother, Donald Scheck, sister Myra
Poage, brother-in-law, Jim Gould, brother-in-law, Chuck Moore, sister-in-law,
Barb Scheck, grandson, Jadyn Arneson, and great grandson Stephan Dreiling.Survivors cherishing her memory
include sister, Melba Moore, West Palm Beach, brother, Tim Scheck, Russell,
significant other, Ron Arneson, Gorham, son, David Weigel, and his wife
Theresa, Gorham, daughter, Deidra Schmidtberger, and her husband Gary, Russell,
daughter, Michelle Brown, and her husband Rodney, Gorham,&nbsp; son, Mike Weigel, and his wife Sharon,
Russell, son, Joey Weigel, and wife Tammy, Russell, daughter, Candace Yost and
husband Greg, Hays, son, Ty Arneson, and wife Jennifer, Junction City, daughter,
Tasha Arneson, and husband Afshin, Louisville, 24 grandchildren, 38 great
grandchildren, and numerous nieces nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00

Mary Joan Weigel

Lonnie
Keith Wise, of Russell, Kansas, and formerly of Plainville, Kansas, passed away
on February 8, 2025, at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, at the
age of 77. He was born on June 15, 1947, to Norman Keith and Ietta Mae (Hrabe)
Wise in Hays, Kansas. He married Kathy M. (Berens) Wise on September 29, 2018, in
Russell, Kansas.

Lonnie
grew up in Plainville where he graduated from Plainville High School in 1965.
He had a long and dedicated career as a maintenance technician at EnerSys
battery plant and Cross Manufacturing, in addition to working as a farmer for
many years.

A proud Eagle
Scout, Lonnie cherished the time he spent at Boy Scout camp in Abilene, Kansas.
During high school Lonnie held several offices in FFA. &nbsp;Lonnie and his sister Joan were avid
competitors in Fox Trot dancing, frequently winning championships. He was a
lifelong fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas State Wildcats, often found with
either a Coke or coffee in his hand, cheering them on with unwavering
enthusiasm. Lonnie’s love for animals was well known, and he found great
fulfillment in helping others. As a longtime member of Alcoholics Anonymous,
Lonnie completed the program and mentored hundreds of men over the years,
inspiring many with his strength, compassion, and wisdom. In addition, his
generosity extended to being a regular blood donor, donating 10 gallons of
blood over the years, knowing his rare blood type would make a difference to
those in need. He also was a generous donor to the United Way of Ellis County.
He donated every paycheck for 18 years. 

Lonnie is
survived by his wife, Kathy Wise of Russell; his children, Stephanie Berens of
Ohio, Carey Wise of Olathe, Lanell (Steven) Bailey, Jeremiah Lumpkin of
Wichita; siblings, Vickie (Jack) Ashbaugh of Hill City, Pat (Alvin)
Mills-Harbert of Warr Acres, Oklahoma, Fred (Val) Wise of Cheney, Kansas; brothers-in-law,
Jeff Mcintyre of Florence, Arizona, Larry Berens (Valarie) of Hot Springs,
South Dakota, Kevin Moren of, South Dakota; sisters-in-law, Cheryl (Tom)
Lathrop of Hot Springs, South Dakota, Julie Fleharty of Idaho; six
grandchildren, Daylon (Andrew) Ingalls, Logan Hertel, Harley (Grace) Hazlett, Phillip
(Olivia) Hazlett, Roseanna Hazlett, Cole Wise; six great-grandchildren, Elijah,
Adalynn, Silas, Savannah, Judah, Vivienne; numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces
and nephews. 

He was
preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Ietta Wise; step-son, Joseph
Bennett, step-daughter, Heather Berens brother, Rex Wise; and sister, Joan
McIntyre. 

A
memorial service will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 11 AM, at the First
Christian Church in Plainville.

Thomas (Tom) Lee Weimer passed
away on April 25,2025 at his home in Park, Kansas. Tom was born on May 1,1944
in Colby, Kansas to Pius and Eileen (Andre) Weimer. Tom grew up on a farm north
of Park, Kansas and learned many farming and ranching skills from his dad.&nbsp; Tom worked many jobs as a farm and ranch hand
over the years and loved riding horses all his life. With eight siblings on the
farm, there was never a dull moment! He could tell many stories about his life
experiences that would leave you in stitches!&nbsp;
He loved life and lived it to the fullest! &nbsp;He will be missed by his family and friends. 

&nbsp;He leaves behind brothers Richard Weimer, Hays,
Kansas; Bob Weimer and wife Jan, Golden, Colorado; Mike Weimer and wife Alis,
Hoxie, Kansas; Joe Weimer, Golden, Colorado.&nbsp;
Sisters, Pat Thrasher, Fort Collins, Colorado; Janet and husband Mike
Buchholz, Hays, Kansas;&nbsp;and Mary Weimer, Park, Kansas. Tom also leaves
behind many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, a great-great niece,
and many cousins.

He is preceded in death by his
parents, Pius and Eileen Weimer, infant brother Michael, sister Carolyn, and
great nephew Kohl Gropp.

There will be a graveside service on Saturday
May 10, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Park, Kansas.&nbsp; Anyone that knew Tom knew he was a cowboy at
heart, and a huge KU fan.&nbsp; To honor Tom,
we ask that you dress casually as we say goodbye to him one final time.&nbsp; 

The family will have a private burial following
Tom’s graveside service.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Johnston, 79, of Stockton, KS, passed away on April 25, 2025, at Select
Specialty Hospital in Wichita, KS, surrounded by her husband, children, and
grandchildren.

Johnston, 79, of Stockton, KS, passed away on April 25, 2025, at Select
Specialty Hospital in Wichita, KS, surrounded by her husband, children, and
grandchildren. Nita
was born on August 6, 1945, to Kimber and Eldred (McDonald) Chard in Osborne
County, Kansas. On November 19, 1961, she married Merrill Johnston in Stockton,
where they made their home and raised their family.Nita
devoted her life to the love and care of her family, creating a home that was
always warm, welcoming, and filled with laughter. She found great joy in
raising her children, watching her family grow, and always making room for one
more at the table. Family vacations and camping trips were highlights of her
life, where stories were shared around the fire, and memories were made under
the stars. The love and bonds she nurtured will live on through the many
cherished memories she helped create.Remaining
to cherish Nita’s memory are her husband of 63 years, Merrill; her children:
Kim Slater and husband Matt of Great Bend, KS, Dawna Scott of Stockton, KS,
Stacey Eddleman and husband Tony of Hastings, NE, Brian Johnston and wife

grandchildren: Jackson, Emmalynn, Olivia, and Amelia Brown; Calvin and Aria
Campbell; and Brenton Eddleman.Nita
