
James Jay White went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 27, 2026. Jimmy was born at his grandparents’ home in rural Sheridan County, Kansas, on October 15, 1939, to James H. and Zola M. (Barr) White. He grew up in Sheridan County with his brother and sisters. Jimmy attended a country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Sheridan Community High School with the Class of 1957.
Following high school, Jimmy worked briefly for the Quinter Cooperative before beginning his career with Tuttle Construction, where he learned the road construction trade. He later began working for Sheridan County Road and Bridge, dedicating 30 years of service.
Through his years with the county, Jimmy advanced to become Road and Bridge Foreman, a position he held until his retirement.
Jimmy was fortunate to meet a young Sheridan County Extension Agent, Reba Sue Brazle. The two hit it off, and James J. White and Reba Sue were married on November 2, 1968, at the First Christian Church in Dexter, Kansas.
They made Hoxie, Kansas their home, where they raised their two sons, Brian and Scott. Family was the center of Jimmy’s life, and he treasured the years he shared with Reba and his sons.
Jimmy had a strong commitment to young people and his community. He was veryinvolved in 4-H and youth activities, serving as a Community Leader for many years. He shared his knowledge and love of the outdoors as a shooting sports instructor and Hunter
Education Instructor. Through these activities, Jimmy taught generations of young people valuable skills, responsibility, and respect for the outdoors.
Jimmy loved hunting, fishing, gardening and was an excellent cook. He also enjoyed volunteering with the Sheridan County Historical Society. Above all, family was the center of Jimmy’s life. Nothing was more important to him than his family, and he especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. Even after his children and grandchildren graduated, Jimmy continued to support and follow Hoxie High School\ activities. He took great pride in the accomplishments of those he loved.
Jimmy was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and loved the Lord with his whole heart. His faith was an important part of his life, and he will be remembered for his strong faith, generous heart, dedication to his community, and unwavering love for his family.
Jimmy leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Reba, of Hoxie, Kansas; son, Scott White and wife, Chelsey, of Hoxie, Kansas; grandchildren, Jacelyn Jarrett (Nash), Macalee White, Caden White, Iden Baalman, Taegan Lindenman, Brylie Lindenman, and Karsyn Lindenman; and great-granddaughter, Ivelyn Jarrett. He is also survived by his brother, Charles White and wife, Jan, of Wamego, Kansas; sister, Carolyn Bell of Quinter, Kansas. brothers-in-law, Richard McMillen, Dr. Frank and Kathy Brazle; and sister-in-law, Mildred Snyder.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Zola White; son, Brian White; sisters, Betty Corke and husband Perry, and Charlotte McMillen.
A funeral service is planned for Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 10:30 A.M. at Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home in Hoxie, Kansas. Following the service, lunch will be served to family and friends at the Methodist Church Social Hall in Hoxie.
Due to predicted inclement weather, a private family burial will take place at a later date. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 30, 2026, from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Following visitation, from 7:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., there will be a special time for family and friends to share memories and stories by Jimmy.
