Opal Maxine (Evans) Prather, age 86, of Gove, Kansas, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2020. She was born on January 7, 1934, to William and Velma Blanche (Walt) Evans in Gove at the family home, and then she lived there from 1956 until her passing.

Opal attended Wild Rose country school and graduated from Aurora high school, Aurora, Colorado and attended the Colorado Women’s College in Denver, Colorado. On June 8, 1952, she was united in marriage to Arnold Prather in Oak Hill, West Virginia, and they were together until his passing in 2013, having celebrated 61 years together. Opal was a loving wife and mother, raising 3 children. She was an active member of the Gove Community Bible Church, the Christian Women’s Fellowship and the Modern Homemakers club and enjoyed cooking, baking Parker House rolls and chocolate pies, reading, and watching the Hallmark Channel. She was one flight from attaining her private pilot’s license. She thoroughly enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and had a great love for ice cream.

Opal is survived by her sons William E. Prather (Kathy) and Jeffrey A. Prather (Linda) of Gove; daughter Tomaye Hipp (Randy Ladenburger) of Oakley, KS; grandchildren Garth Prather of Wichita, KS, Clint Prather of Healy, KS, Lance Prather of Hutchinson, KS, Megan Alexander (Brady) of Stillwater, OK, Heather (Trevor) Henderson of Goodland, KS, Traci Taylor (Matt) of Rose Hill, KS, Jay Hipp of Hays, KS, Travis Ladenburger (DeAnn Dreitz) of Oakley, Kristen Binder (Randy) of Miliken, CO, Jamie Ladenburger of Remington, VA; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Opal was preceded in death by her husband; both parents; and sisters Louise Pearce and Velma Briggs.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 13, 2020, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, February 14, 2020, at Gove Community Bible Church with pastor Chris Thomas officiating. Burial will at the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery in WaKeeney, KS.

Former Goodland, KS resident Shirley L. Peters, known to her family and friends as Sue, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2020 at the age of 93 while living in Kansas City.

Sue was one of four children born to James and Erma Caldwell on July 6, 1926; she attended all schools in Goodland, Kansas. Upon graduation she attended one year at University of Colorado. Sue had many friends in Goodland and enjoyed spending her later years there going to coffee with "the girls."&nbsp; She often spoke about her high school years and how enjoyable they were. Many times she said, "I had so much fun I should have been shot."&nbsp;

She married Maurice Wilson Peters on March 20, 1945. She lovingly referred to him as Peter. They were married 55 years at the time of his death. During their life together they were able to travel extensively and visited Hong Kong, Australia, Switzerland, Sweden, England, Portugal, Denmark, the Caribbean and numerous states. Probably her favorite destination was Hawaii, often saying, "I love it over there."&nbsp;

Shirley and Maurice had three children together, Rebecca Sue (Kenneth) Johnson of Hays, KS, Stephen M. (Rochelle) Peters of Lansing, KS, and Connie Jo (Ron) Green of Kansas City, KS. She enjoyed being a homemaker, wife and mother. She loved the holidays and was a great hostess at Christmas making many delights including Santa Claus cookies which were too beautiful to eat. Sue also was an avid knitter. She began quilting and eventually quilted complete bed spreads of every shape and size. It was common for her to watch Jeopardy in her favorite chair while quilting, knitting or completing crossword puzzles. She remained a member of the Methodist Church, The Elks and Ladies Auxiliary of Goodland at the time of her death.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister, Peg Caldwell Newhouse, and brothers Don Caldwell and Richard (Dick) Caldwell. She is survived by her three children, 7&nbsp;grandchildren, and 16 greatgrandchildren, all of whom she was so proud of and loved dearly.&nbsp;

Graveside services for Shirley will be held Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 11:00 AM MT at the Goodland Cemetery where she will be inurned beside her husband, Maurice.

Thomas J. Hutchinson, 87, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2020 at the Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington, Kansas.

Tom was born February 7, 1933 in Russell, the son of Thomas Joseph and Frieda (Behrendt) Hutchinson.&nbsp; He attended elementary school at Duffy country school and Waldo Grade school.&nbsp; He attended his freshman and sophomore year at Waldo High School before his family moved to a farm south of Paradise, Kansas.&nbsp; He graduated from Paradise High School in the Class of 1952.

Tom was united in marriage to Thelma Pfortmiller on January 25, 1954 in Redeemer Lutheran Church.&nbsp; Tom and Thelma made their home on the “Kemburn Farm” northeast of Waldo, where they raised registered Shorthorn cattle and farmed.&nbsp; They were blessed with three children; Sheryl, Randall and Bruce.&nbsp; They divorced in 2004.&nbsp; Tom was united in marriage to Ramona Lopez on December 20, 2007 in Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; Ramona preceded him in death on November 4, 2019.&nbsp; Throughout his life, Tom attended Peace Lutheran Church in Natoma, St. John Lutheran Church and Bible Baptist Church in Russell.&nbsp; In his spare time, Tom enjoyed welding and building items to help him on the farm.

Surviving family include his daughter Sheryl Corn (Steven) of Great Bend, Kansas; sons, Randall Hutchinson (Stephanie) of Falun, Kansas and Bruce Hutchinson (Angela) of Kansas City, Missouri; mother of his children, Thelma Hutchinson of Ellinwood, Kansas; step son, Marc Bauman of Kirkland, Washington; nine grandchildren, two step grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ramona, and half sister, Ruby Peter.

On September 21, 1958 she married Harvey Larm in Goodland.&nbsp; Beverly 
worked at the Sherman Theater, Model Steam Laundry and at Goodland 
Regional Medical Center in housekeeping for 25 years.&nbsp; She enjoyed 
knitting and decorative painting.

Preceding her in death are her grandparents; parents; husband, Harvey; daughter, Tammy; and brothers Jimmy and Red.

She is survived by her sister, Twila (Jerry) Scierks of Goodland, KS.

Delmar D. Post, age 80, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2020 at the Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City, Kansas.&nbsp; 

He was born on March 7, 1939 in Osborne, Kansas, the son of James O. &amp; Lenna Gregory Post.&nbsp; Delmar was a resident of Scott City, Kansas since 1964.&nbsp; He ran the Deep Rock Service Station in Scott City for many years and then worked for Ashley Luke for 28 1/2 years.

He was a US Army Veteran serving from 1961 until 1963 and was a member of the VFW.

Survivors include his Son - Doug &amp; Donna Post of Anderson, South Carolina, Three Brothers - Doyle Post of Plainville, Kansas, Edson Post of Bel Aire, Kansas, Charles Post of Concordia, Kansas, Two Grandsons - Brian Post and Joshua Post of ANderson, South Carolina and numerous Nieces &amp; Nephews.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Three Brothers - Ronald Post, James Post, Emery Post and One Sister - Vola Collins.

Bentley Albert Pywell, age 56 of Damar, passed away on Sunday, February 
9, 2020. He was born in Great Bend, Kansas on May 22, 1963 to George and
 Carolin (Mongeau) Pywell. Bentley was a lifetime resident of Rooks 
County, growing up in Plainville and graduating from Plainville High 
School with the Class of 1981. After high school he attended Fort Hays 
State University and went on to graduate from NWKS Area Vocational 
Technical School out of Goodland for telecommunications. Bentley moved 
to Wichita where he attended Wichita Tech and completed studies in 
autobody and detailing. 


After returning back home, Bentley worked under the instruction of 
his uncle Sam at Service Rite; he later started his own body shop, 
Pywell Body Shop. He moved into trucking and  started K Bar S Trucking. 
Bentley later worked in the oil field as a Pulling Unit Operator, where 
he mentored many and made numerous lifelong friends. Bentley enjoyed 
racing 3- and 4-wheelers, motorcycles, and sport mods. He loved to 
participate in mud runs and spend time riding 4-wheelers with his 
daughters.


Bentley is survived by his parents, George and Carolin Pywell of 
Zurich; significant other, Melissa White of the home; daughters, Kylee 
Shae Pywell of Plainville, Shelbe (Tanner) Darnell of Plainville, and 
Cassidy Pywell of Palco; sister, Stacey (Chris) Bobek of Denver, CO; 
grandchild, Theodore Darnell; and niece and nephew, Simone and Dalton 
Bobek.


Bentley is preceded in death by an infant son, Ethan Trey Pywell.


A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 
10:30 AM at the First Christian Church in Plainville with burial to 
follow at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Palco. Visitation will be held 
on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at the funeral home in Plainville from 
2:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Bentley A. Pywell

Isabel L. Finch, age  79, died on February 8, 2020 at the Carr House in Derby, Kansas.  She was born on August 29, 1940 in Logan County, Kansas, the daughter of Roy L. Bartell &amp; Lena L. (Hinton) Bartell.  She spent her childhood years in the Logan County area. Isabel spent time  with a special family in the Russell Springs Area, Abe &amp; Ruby Dirks and their daughter Bonnie.

On March 1, 1956 she married Orman Chancy Finch in Russell Springs, Kansas.  He preceded her in death on February 21, 2007 in Garden City.

Isabel worked for USD 457 until her retirement.  She enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting and being active in the First Christian Church, and spending time with her family.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at the First Christian Church at 10 am.

Interment will be at the Gove County Cemetery in Gove County, Kansas on Saturday, February  15, 2020 at 2:00 pm.

(Hinton) Bartell. She spent her childhood years in the Logan County area. Isabel spent time with a special family in the Russell Springs Area, Abe &amp; Ruby Dirks and their daughter Bonnie.On March 1, 1956 she married Orman Chancy Finch in Russell Springs, Kansas. He preceded her in death on February 21, 2007 in Garden City.Isabel worked for USD 457 until her retirement. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting and being active in the First Christian Church, and spending time with her family.Survivors include: Two Daughters:&nbsp; Juanita L. Isabel L. Finch

Albert Bernard Biel Jr., age 93, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.   Albert was born December 21, 1926 on the Biel family homestead near Marienthal, Kansas, the son of Albert B. &amp; Ida ( Kreutzer) Biel, Sr.   A lifetime resident of Wichita County, Jr. enjoyed a satisfying, simple life of farming and raising a family on the homestead until moving into Leoti in 1994.  

Jr. was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas, serving on the Building Committee of the present church.  He served his country in the United States Army with the 1st Calvary Division, primarily in the Japanese theater from March of 1945 until his separation in November of 1946.   He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Marienthal, Kansas, and the V.F.W. of Garden City, Kansas.

On October 21, 1952 he married Johanna Kessler at Marienthal, Kansas.

Jr.’s surviving family include his wife - Johanna Biel of Leoti, Kansas, his children- Ron &amp; Verla Biel, Stan &amp; Sherry Biel, Bonnie &amp; Perry Owens and Delores &amp; Delmer Hembree all of Leoti, Kansas.  Thirteen grandchildren, Twenty-three great grandchildren and two step grandchildren, his brother- Eugene &amp; Billie Biel and sisters, Marquerite Berning and Kathryn Berning both of Leoti, Kansas.

His parents, a sister, Doris Mayer and brother, James Biel precede him in death.

Vigil services will be held at 7:00 pm Thursday, February 13, 2020 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas.  Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am Friday, February 14, 2020 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas with Father Tim Hickey officiating.  Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army Funeral Honors Detail from Fort Riley, Kansas.

Roberta J. “Bert” Brack, 87, passed away February 10, 2020, at 
Leisure Homestead, St. John. She was born January 26, 1933, in Great 
Bend, to Robert Michael and Mary Jane (Boyle) Spitzmiller. Bert married 
Daylon Laverne Brack August 18, 1952, in Great Bend, and later divorced.

Bert, a life time resident of Great Bend, was a member of Trinity 
Lutheran Church, Great Bend, Great Bend Desk and Derrick and the Great 
Bend Saddle Club. During her employment career, she worked for Fuller 
Brush Industries, Insurance Unlimited, Crawford and Company, then 
retired from the Great Bend Convention and Visitors Bureau. Following 
her retirement, she enjoyed her part time employment at the Kansas 
Wetlands Education Center. Bert was known for her lifetime equine 
passion, enjoying fellowship with other members of the Great Bend Saddle
 Club.

Survivors include one daughter, Cathy Vonfeldt of Great Bend; one 
son, Gary Brack of Wichita; six grandchildren, Jason, Jared, Shaunta, 
Lavenia, Lance and Makishia; and 17 great grandchildren. Bert was 
preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, Chester Smith; and two 
brothers, Robert Michael “Mike” Spitzmiller and John Henry “Jack” 
Spitzmiller.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held 10:30 
a.m. Friday, February 14, 2020, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Rev. 
Barbara Jones presiding. Inurnment will be 1:30 p.m. at Pawnee Rock 
Cemetery, Pawnee Rock. The register book will be available to sign 10:00
 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Bryant Funeral Home. A

Roberta J. 'Bert' Brack

Edna Klema, 94, passed away on February 10, 2020, at Medicalodges of 
Great Bend. She was born on January 8, 1926 at Wilson, to Edward Adolph 
&amp; Ethel Mary (Miller) Macek. She married John A. Klema on July 26, 
1949, at Wilson. He survives.

Coming from Ellsworth in 1960, Edna is a Great Bend resident. She was
 the billing clerk at Fuller Brush until she retired in 1997 and was a 
teacher for 5 years. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. 
Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend. She loved her flowers and 
gardening, cooking and baking, as well as traveling. She especially 
loved her family.

Survivors include, her husband John Klema of the home; two daughters,
 Judy Ochs and husband Frank, and Carol Wiesner and husband Kevin, all 
of Great Bend; a daughter in law, Verna Klema of Hoisington; a brother, 
Eugene Macek of Wilson; five grandchildren, Brandon Ochs and wife 
Melissa, Brett Ochs and wife Cindy, Blake Ochs and wife Shelby, Shelby 
Wiesner and Becky Milsap; eleven great grandchildren; and many nieces 
and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Rick 
Klema.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., Friday, February 14, 
2020, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Altar Society Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and
 Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at

Edna Klema

Warren Henry “Hank” Robertson, 81, of Tribune, Kansas passed away on February 8th, 2020 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita Kansas, after a short but fierce battle with lymphoma.

Hank was born in Buffalo, Oklahoma on December 2nd, 1938 to parents Mary Elizabeth (Irion) &amp; Eugene Oral Robertson.  He grew up on a farm in Harper County Oklahoma and attended high school in Buffalo, Oklahoma graduating in 1956.  Hank grew up participating in FFA, football, and land judging.

Hank attended Northwestern State College in Alva, OK for one year where he met the love of his life, Alice McKinney.  Hank and Alice transferred to Southwestern Oklahoma State University the next year, in Weatherford, Oklahoma where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy, in 1961. Hank married Alice Gwen McKinney of Englewood, Kansas on April 5th, 1958.  Their wedding was held at the United Methodist Church in Englewood, Kansas.

Hanks first job out of Pharmacy School was in Yukon, Oklahoma, followed by a year in Liberal, Kansas before moving to Dodge City working at Palace Drug.  In 1965 Hank and Alice moved to Tribune, Kansas where they purchased Richardson Rexall Drug later becoming Robertson Drug which they owned for 25 years. Hank also partnered with his lifelong friend, Waldo Hale at Hamilton County Drug.  During this time Hank and Alice also started a farming operation, which continues today.  Hank held a pharmacy license in Oklahoma, Colorado and Kansas receiving his 50-year pin from the Kansas and Oklahoma Boards of Pharmacy.  Hank practiced pharmacy for 59 years.

Hank enjoyed hunting, fishing, flying, going to the lake, and his grandchildren.  He worked hard and loved farming, driving his truck and tractor, which he did right up to the end of his life.  He was involved in many organizations and activities including Greeley County School Board, Kansas Livestock Association, Elks Club, Rotary, Dance Club, and the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy Deans Club.

Hank is survived by his children, Barb &amp; Darrel Johnson Bentonville, Arkansas.  Mark &amp; Judy Robertson, Tribune, Kansas. Scot &amp; Lisa Robertson, Tribune, Kansas and Jena &amp; Jonathan Brunswig, Scott City, Kansas.  Grandchildren: Clint &amp; Amanda Johnson, Cole Robertson, Shanon &amp; Cale Miller, Clay and Megan Robertson, Carly &amp; Nathan Larson, Megan Robertson, Katelyn Robertson, Reid Brunswig, Allison Brunswig, and Canon Brunswig. Also, one great granddaughter Madilyn Miller.  He is survived by one brother, Leland Robertson and one sister, Mary Aurel Dahlstrom.  Hank is preceded in death by his wife Alice Robertson, his parents, one brother, Calvin Robertson, and one granddaughter Jenny Johnson.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm (MST) Thursday, February 13th, at the Greeley County Cemetery at Tribune, Kansas with Jerry Young officiating.  Friends and family will gather at St Joseph’s Parish Hall following graveside services. Hank will be greatly missed by his friends and family.  Friends may call from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday, February 12th, at Price and Sons Funeral Home in Tribune, Kansas.

Warren Henry 'Hank' Robertson

Katherina Ann “Kat” Smades, 47, passed away February 10, 2020, following
 a brief battle with cancer, at her home in Great Bend. Kat was born 
July 8, 1972, at Garden City.

Kat had been a Great Bend resident 
since 2007, coming from Leoti, Deerfield and Garden City. She served her
 country honorable in the U.S. Army. She was a member of the Catholic 
faith. Kat enjoyed shooting, hunting, watching movies and loved playing 
softball and volleyball. 

Survivors include, her companion of the
 home, Jesse R. Defenbaugh; and two daughters, Autumn Smades of Hays and
 Summer Smades of Leoti; and one brother, Louis Michael "Trea" Zellner, 
III. of Hugoton. She was preceded in death by her mother, Nancy (Heili) 
Zellner Gillock and step father, Myron Gillock. 

Funeral service 
will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, February 14, 2020, at Bryant Funeral Home, 
with Father Don Bedore presiding. Interment will follow at Great Bend 
Cemetery North, Great Bend, with military honors conducted by American 
Legion Riders and Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Visitation will be Noon to 9:00

Katherina Ann 'Kat' Smades

Beverly A. Martin, 84, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Smith County Health and Rehab.


  Beverly was born August 22, 1935 in Ft. Collins, CO, the daughter of 
Lasher L. and Ethel (Russell) Kelley.&nbsp; On February 12, 1954 she married 
Eldon K. “Stub” Martin in Kensington, KS, to this union they were 
blessed with four children, Jeff, Rick, Linda and Mitch.

  She 
was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Donald Kelley, 
two sisters, Lila “Pat” Gillian and Shirley Husson, a son Jeff Martin 
and a grandson Adam Martin.

  Beverly is survived by her 
husband Stub Martin of Smith Center; two sons, Rick (Tishia) Martin of 
Derby, Mitch Martin of Smith Center; a daughter Linda (Doug Guidry) 
Carswell of Smith Center; a daughter-in-law, Lydia Martin of Grand 
Junction, CO; a sister Faun Bolton of Smith Center; two sisters-in-law,

 Beverly was born August 22, 1935 in Ft. Collins, CO, the daughter of 
Lasher L. and Ethel (Russell) Kelley.&nbsp; On February 12, 1954 she married 
Eldon K. “Stub” Martin in Kensington, KS, to this union they were 
blessed with four children, Jeff, Rick, Linda and Mitch. She 
was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Donald Kelley, 
two sisters, Lila “Pat” Gillian and Shirley Husson, a son Jeff Martin 
and a grandson Adam Martin. Beverly is survived by her 
husband Stub Martin of Smith Center; two sons, Rick (Tishia) Martin of 
Derby, Mitch Martin of Smith Center; a daughter Linda (Doug Guidry) 
Carswell of Smith Center; a daughter-in-law, Lydia Martin of Grand 
Junction, CO; a sister Faun Bolton of Smith Center; two sisters-in-law, 
Bernadine Duntz and Donna Martin both of Smith Center, eight 
grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. A celebration

Beverly A. Martin

Phillipsburg resident Ralph H. Fink passed away Saturday, February 8, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE at the age of 75.&nbsp;

He was born January 5, 1945 in Smith Center, KS the son of Edward L., Sr. and Martha (Huskey) Fink.&nbsp; He was an US Army Vietnam Veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila of Phillipsburg; 4 daughters, Sonja Kinter and Stacy Solida, both of Phillipsburg, Aimee Weinbrenner of Inman, KS and Lisa Fink of Omaha, NE; a son, Lonnie Fink of Phillipsburg; and 16 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2020 at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Dave Hutson officiating.&nbsp; Burial with military honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Mr. Fink will lie in state from Noon until 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Toby G. Eaton, age 43, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2020 in Hutchinson, Kansas.  He was born on January 29, 1977 in Goodland, Kansas, the son of Steve &amp; Kathy Eaton.  A resident of Scott City, Kansas until 1995 when he graduated from Scott Community High School and moved to Hutchinson, Kansas, he recently had worked for Sonoco Recycling Paper Mill in Hutchinson, Kansas.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Scott City, Kansas.

Survivors include his Two Sons - Chandler Steven Eaton of Hutchinson, Kansas, Chance Lee Eaton of Hutchinson, Kansas, Parents - Steve &amp; Kathy Eaton of Scott City, Kansas, One Sister - Brandi &amp; Chris Sneath of Garden City, Kansas, One Grandfather - Dale Vaughn of Pittsburg, Kansas, One Grandmother - Bettie Stithem of Scott City, Kansas, and Three Nephews - Brayden, Easton, and Paxton Sneath of Garden City, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his Two Grandparents.

Memorial Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 14, 2020 at 2:00 p.m at the United Methodist Church in Scott City, Kansas with Pastor Don Williams presiding.

Gary Wayne Mills, 78, passed away February 9, 2020, at Wesley Medical
 Center, Wichita, with his family by his side. He was born on February 
13, 1941 in St. John, to Lyle Dodge &amp; Virl (Dawson) Mills. He 
married Carolyn Sue Lightcap on June 4, 1961 at Dodge City. She 
survives.

A resident of Great Bend since 1972, Gary previously lived in Dodge 
City. He was the market manager at Dillons for 44 years, retiring in 
2003. He liked to hunt, fish and loved all animals. He enjoyed reading 
and especially spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Survivors include, his wife Carolyn Sue Mills of the home; a son, 
Greg Mills and wife Yvette of Scott City; three daughters, Kimberly Blea
 of Great Bend, Kelly Holopirek, and Kristin Bosley and husband Don, all
 of Wichita; a brother, Ivan Mills and wife Dixine of Winchester, Ky; 
ten grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in 
death by his parents; and stepmother, Lillie May.

There will be no visitation or services as cremation has taken place.

Memorials have been designated to the Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Gary Wayne Mills

Lennie Higgins, 76, of Brownsville, Ore., passed away Monday, January 27, 2020.


Lennie was born in Hays, Kansas to Henry Nicholas and Virginia (Spivey) Higgins.  He grew up in McCracken, Kansas.


Lennie spent 6 years in the Navy, as did three of his brothers. He was 
proud of his time in the Navy.  He was a fire control technician 
responsible for setting up the missile launches. He was a Plank owner of
 the Richard E Byrd - meaning he was part of the first crew on the ship.
 He was also on the USS Claude V. Ricketts (CV Ricketts) and the USS 
Benjamin Stoddert.


Lennie graduated with a degree in accounting from Central Washington 
University in 1975.  He worked at ‘The Tav’ in Ellensbury while going to
 school.  He worked for the University of Oregon as an accountant after 
graduation, then moved to Salem and worked for the state at Fairview for
 a couple of years before taking a job as an auditor for the IRS. There 
he spent time working in Salem, Portland, and Eugene. After retiring 
from the IRS he attended LBCC and learned a new trade in Heating &amp; 
Refrigeration.  He worked for Marshall in Springfield for many years.  
Lennie retired again and most recently was working at the Pioneer Villa 
Truck Stop in maintenance.


His children, Megan and Spencer, were born in Salem 1979 &amp; 1981.  
They moved to Brownsville in 1986 to his little piece of paradise. He 
enjoyed coaching basketball &amp; baseball youth teams of both Megan 
&amp; Spencer. He enjoyed his time at home working on the property, the 
deck, and any other project he felt like starting. He married Sheryl L. 
Higgins in January 2000. He enjoyed going to the Brownsville Saloon for a
 drink with friends and his daily lottery ticket. And he enjoyed his 
two-year-old great granddaughter, Brooklyn, because she always made him 
laugh. 


Lennie is survived by his wife, Sheryl Higgins; children, Megan Higgins 
of Portland, Traci Hannah and husband Larry of Albany, Tami Minnick and 
husband Robert of Albany; siblings, Martin Higgins and wife Mary of 
Lenexa, Kansas, James Higgins and wife Sue of El Cajon, CA, Suellen 
Amateis and husband Larry of Centennial, Colorado, Jan Higgins of 
Bayard, Nebraska, and Tracy Higgins and wife Leanne of Lakeside, 
California; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and many nieces and 
nephews.


He was preceded in death by his son, Spencer Ryan Higgins in August 2017; and his parents, Virginia and Nick Higgins.


There is a Portland Audubon camp scholarship fund named after his son 
Spencer.  If people would like to donate there in Lennie’s name in lieu 
of flowers that would be great!  Contributions may be made to the

 Lennie Lew Higgins 

Trevor R. Thornton, age 41, lifelong resident of Osborne, Kansas,&nbsp; passed away at the Osborne County Memorial Hospital on Thursday, February
 6th.&nbsp; 

He was born to Keith and Brenda (French) Thornton on December 22,
 1978.&nbsp; He was a 1997 graduate of Osborne High School.&nbsp; &nbsp;Trevor was the
 lucky middle child.&nbsp; He has a big brother Brandon (Buck) Thornton and 
his little sister (Boogs) Megan Thornton Schoen. On June 8, 2002 Trevor 
was united in marriage to Keri Ann Cordill.&nbsp; Trevor was a long time 
employee of the Kansas Department of Transportation.&nbsp; At the time of his
 death he was the Highway Maintenance Supervisor for the Osborne sub 
area.

Growing up Trevor spent his summers on the Sarver place with his 
Uncle Lynn and Aunt Jacque.&nbsp; He loved being on the farm taking care of 
the cattle and the crops.&nbsp; He also liked coming in to town for breakfast
 every morning with his uncle Lynn.&nbsp; This started a life-long love for 
all things farming.&nbsp; When he wasn’t helping uncle Lynn he was riding 
around the countryside with both uncle Lynn and his uncle Billy. &nbsp;

Trevor was lucky to have the Eilert family as his second family.&nbsp; He 
spent lots of time with Jim and Deb and their three sons Jason, Judd and
 Josh.&nbsp; In Trevor’s high school years he also became friends with Kirk 
Mans, Jared Schurr and many others we are surely forgetting.&nbsp; There were
 many nights the boys spent riding around the country side drinking 
their favorite beverages and they might have ruined a few pickup trucks 
along the way.&nbsp; We’ll never tell.&nbsp; Trevor also introduced his little 
sister Megan to the wonders of Vera’s in Hunter.

In the late 90’s Jared and Trevor went and watched Jared’s brother 
race a Crazy Cruiser.&nbsp; It just so happened that uncle Lynn had an old 
Monte Carlo just sitting around.&nbsp; They turned that Monte into a cruiser 
and spent many nights having fun and taking the checkered flag.&nbsp; They 
got so good that someone from Nebraska claimed their race car.&nbsp; We’ll 
never know how they got that car home without the hood and trunk pins.&nbsp; 
From the cruiser Trev moved onto racing a hobby stock and eventually a 
stock car.&nbsp; Trevor and Keri spent many nights with Brian, Shan, Tracy, 
Lacey and Shaylon Holloway at the Minneapolis Raceway and other area 
tracks.&nbsp; Trevor loved every minute of being on a racetrack and all the 
people that he and Keri met.&nbsp; One of his dreams was to race at the Boone
 Speedway Super Nationals.&nbsp; In 2009 he fulfilled that dream.&nbsp; While he 
didn’t make the big dance like his brother in law Brady he had a 
tremendous amount of fun trying.&nbsp; Trevor’s love of racing extended to 
his brother Buck who raced a sport compact.&nbsp; One day Trevor’s brother 
cut the gas line in his sport compact&nbsp; and drove from his home in 
Nebraska to Osborne so that his brother could fix it.&nbsp; Trevor’s nephews 
and niece in Nebraska are carrying on the Thornton racing tradition by 
racing go karts. &nbsp;

On November 17, 2008 one of the greatest things to ever happen to 
Trevor and Keri was born, Kenley Ann Thornton better known as Squirrel.&nbsp;
 Trevor took to the role of daddy immediately as he was a natural.&nbsp; He 
was quick to get up in the night to help and in fact Kenley would only 
sleep at night for her daddy.&nbsp;

April 1, 2014 brought another blessing to the family with the 
addition of Tucker Ray Thornton better known as Willis P.&nbsp; Tuck arrived 
into the family with red hair and his dad’s tenacity.&nbsp; With the addition
 of Tucker, Trevor’s racing career came to a close and the family 
started camping. &nbsp;

Once Trevor and Keri purchased their camper it started a chain 
reaction.&nbsp; Pretty soon Brenda and Keith had a camper, Megan and Brady 
had a camper, Sheri and Wig purchased a camper, Cari and Rob purchased a
 camper and finally the last hold outs Judd and Hanna purchased a 
camper.&nbsp; Any summer weekend you could find the ENTIRE group at Waconda 
Lake.&nbsp; While at the lake Trevor spent many hours fishing and boating 
with his nieces and nephews.&nbsp; Trevor and his brother in law Brady spent 
many a day fishing for catfish and throwing out chum!

Trevor loved harvesting crops, it didn’t matter what the crop was he 
was in the thick of it helping to bring it in.&nbsp; In his early years he 
helped uncle Lynn.&nbsp; From there he helped Keith Brooks for several 
years.&nbsp; In 2007 Trevor started helping Loy and Kathy Willson on their 
farm.&nbsp; With the passing of Loy, Trevor helped Kathy prepare their farm 
for new owners and move her to South Dakota.&nbsp; In 2016, Trevor started 
helping Sheldon and Nolan Remus.&nbsp; The last few years of his life he made
 many new friends helping them.&nbsp; He especially loved going with Nolan to
 Salina. &nbsp;

Trevor was preceded in death by Keri’s fathers Sherd Cordill and 
Larry Droppleman, his grandpa Leland and grandma Noreen Thornton, his 
grandpa Steve Ballard, his grandpa Dick French and his aunt Bobi Jarret.

Trevor leaves behind to mourn his passing his wife Keri and his 
daughter Kenley and son Tucker of the home. His parents Keith and Brenda
 Thornton of Osborne.&nbsp; His mother-in-law Judy Droppleman of Osborne.&nbsp; 
His brother Buck Thornton wife Paige and Braydon, Avari and Reid of 
Nebraska City, Nebraska.&nbsp; His sister Megan Thornton Schoen husband Brady
 and Tyler, Jorden and Cambri of Downs, Kansas.&nbsp; Sister in law Sheri 
Conway and husband Wig and Felicity, Stasha and Bryan. Grandma Jeani and
 husband Rex Hyde of Osborne.&nbsp; Grandma Alice French of Osborne.&nbsp; His 
uncles Billy Thornton and Lynn Thornton of Osborne, his uncle Bo and 
aunt Linda French of Osborne, his aunt Lynn French of Salina, Kansas his
 aunt Jacque Thornton of Larned, Kansas his uncle Allen and Aunt Karen 
of Cawker City, Kansas, his aunt Vickie and uncle Dale Hopson of Council
 Bluffs, Iowa and a host of cousins and many many friends.

Visitation will be at the United Christian Church, Osborne, Sunday, 
February 9th from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. Funeral 
Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 10th at the church with 
interment following at Covert Cemetery, Osborne. Dress will be casual,

 Josh.&nbsp; In Trevor’s high school years he also became friends with Kirk 
Mans, Jared Schurr and many others we are surely forgetting.&nbsp; There were
 many nights the boys spent riding around the country side drinking 
their favorite beverages and they might have ruined a few pickup trucks 
along the way.&nbsp; We’ll never tell.&nbsp; Trevor also introduced his little 
sister Megan to the wonders of Vera’s in Hunter.In the late 90’s Jared and Trevor went and watched Jared’s brother 
race a Crazy Cruiser.&nbsp; It just so happened that uncle Lynn had an old 
Monte Carlo just sitting around.&nbsp; They turned that Monte into a cruiser 
and spent many nights having fun and taking the checkered flag.&nbsp; They 
got so good that someone from Nebraska claimed their race car.&nbsp; We’ll 
never know how they got that car home without the hood and trunk pins.&nbsp; 
From the cruiser Trev moved onto racing a hobby stock and eventually a 
stock car.&nbsp; Trevor and Keri spent many nights with Brian, Shan, Tracy, 
Lacey and Shaylon Holloway at the Minneapolis Raceway and other area 
tracks.&nbsp; Trevor loved every minute of being on a racetrack and all the 
people that he and Keri met.&nbsp; One of his dreams was to race at the Boone
 Speedway Super Nationals.&nbsp; In 2009 he fulfilled that dream.&nbsp; While he 
didn’t make the big dance like his brother in law Brady he had a 
tremendous amount of fun trying.&nbsp; Trevor’s love of racing extended to 
his brother Buck who raced a sport compact.&nbsp; One day Trevor’s brother 
cut the gas line in his sport compact&nbsp; and drove from his home in 
Nebraska to Osborne so that his brother could fix it.&nbsp; Trevor’s nephews 
and niece in Nebraska are carrying on the Thornton racing tradition by 
racing go karts. &nbsp;On November 17, 2008 one of the greatest things to ever happen to 
Trevor and Keri was born, Kenley Ann Thornton better known as Squirrel.&nbsp;
 Trevor took to the role of daddy immediately as he was a natural.&nbsp; He 
was quick to get up in the night to help and in fact Kenley would only 
sleep at night for her daddy.&nbsp;April 1, 2014 brought another blessing to the family with the 
addition of Tucker Ray Thornton better known as Willis P.&nbsp; Tuck arrived 
into the family with red hair and his dad’s tenacity.&nbsp; With the addition
 of Tucker, Trevor’s racing career came to a close and the family 
started camping. &nbsp;Once Trevor and Keri purchased their camper it started a chain 
reaction.&nbsp; Pretty soon Brenda and Keith had a camper, Megan and Brady 
had a camper, Sheri and Wig purchased a camper, Cari and Rob purchased a
 camper and finally the last hold outs Judd and Hanna purchased a 
camper.&nbsp; Any summer weekend you could find the ENTIRE group at Waconda 
Lake.&nbsp; While at the lake Trevor spent many hours fishing and boating 
with his nieces and nephews.&nbsp; Trevor and his brother in law Brady spent 
many a day fishing for catfish and throwing out chum!Trevor loved harvesting crops, it didn’t matter what the crop was he 
was in the thick of it helping to bring it in.&nbsp; In his early years he 
helped uncle Lynn.&nbsp; From there he helped Keith Brooks for several 
years.&nbsp; In 2007 Trevor started helping Loy and Kathy Willson on their 
farm.&nbsp; With the passing of Loy, Trevor helped Kathy prepare their farm 
for new owners and move her to South Dakota.&nbsp; In 2016, Trevor started 
helping Sheldon and Nolan Remus.&nbsp; The last few years of his life he made
 many new friends helping them.&nbsp; He especially loved going with Nolan to
 Salina. &nbsp;Trevor was preceded in death by Keri’s fathers Sherd Cordill and 
Larry Droppleman, his grandpa Leland and grandma Noreen Thornton, his 
grandpa Steve Ballard, his grandpa Dick French and his aunt Bobi Jarret.Trevor leaves behind to mourn his passing his wife Keri and his 
daughter Kenley and son Tucker of the home. His parents Keith and Brenda
 Thornton of Osborne.&nbsp; His mother-in-law Judy Droppleman of Osborne.&nbsp; 
His brother Buck Thornton wife Paige and Braydon, Avari and Reid of 
Nebraska City, Nebraska.&nbsp; His sister Megan Thornton Schoen husband Brady
 and Tyler, Jorden and Cambri of Downs, Kansas.&nbsp; Sister in law Sheri 
Conway and husband Wig and Felicity, Stasha and Bryan. Grandma Jeani and
 husband Rex Hyde of Osborne.&nbsp; Grandma Alice French of Osborne.&nbsp; His 
uncles Billy Thornton and Lynn Thornton of Osborne, his uncle Bo and 
aunt Linda French of Osborne, his aunt Lynn French of Salina, Kansas his
 aunt Jacque Thornton of Larned, Kansas his uncle Allen and Aunt Karen 
of Cawker City, Kansas, his aunt Vickie and uncle Dale Hopson of Council
 Bluffs, Iowa and a host of cousins and many many friends.Visitation will be at the United Christian Church, Osborne, Sunday, 
February 9th from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. Funeral 
Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 10th at the church with 
interment following at Covert Cemetery, Osborne. Dress will be casual,

Trevor R. Thornton

John William (Jay) Strachan IV, 68, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Friday, January 31st, 2020. 


John was born in Massachusetts on August 7, 1951, a son of the late Dorothy Catherine (Bond) and John William Strachan III.


He was the husband of Karen Rose (Bollig) Strachan. 


John is survived by his wife, Karen Rose (Bollig) Strachan; two 
daughters, Lori Ann Riedel, Melissa Jean Wellbrock (John); two sons, 
Robert John Strachan, Martin Devin Strachan; brothers, Kenny and Jimmy 
Strachan; and sister, Verlinda Strachan.


He is also survived by 12 Grandchildren, 7 Great Grandchildren.


Memorial Service will be at 10:30 am, Thursday, February 13th at St.
 John Lutheran Church, Russell, Kansas, with Pastor Roger Dennis 
officiating.

John William (Jay) Strachan IV

M’Lou Stout, age 82, passed away Monday afternoon, February 3, 2020, at the Meade District Hospital, Meade, Kansas.

She was born September 18, 1937, at Portland, Oregon, the daughter of
 Betty Law (Smith) Reed, then adopted by Kelly. As a young girl she 
attended school in Kirkland, Washington.

On February 14, 1957, she married Robert Dale (Bob) Stout at Seattle,
 Washington. To this union three children were born, William Reed Stout,
 Will Robert Stout, and Willet Roann Stout.

M’Lou and Bob raised their family in Sterling, Kansas, Marquette, 
Kansas, and later Paradise, Kansas, where they later answered the call 
of God and began their ministry in the Methodist faith. After serving as
 ministers in Marquette, Morgainville, and Rolla for twenty-one years, 
they moved to Plains and continued to serve the Lord in Volunteers in 
Mission. They traveled many miles with their travel trailer to repair 
and build for those in need.

She was a member of the Plains United Methodist Church. She enjoyed 
traveling, mission work, spending time at the Young at Heart, and 
spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by two sons, William (Bill) Stout and wife Lynnetta, 
and Will Stout and wife Patti; a sister, Lynda Dreher; seven 
grandchildren, Jessica Reed (Tate, Rachel Bostwick (Jake, David Stout 
(Shannon, Shane Stout (Michelle, Mary Jo Stout, Jenna Miller, and 
Diana Schutte (Derek); and sixteen and one half great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob on January 19, 2018; her
 daughter, Roann Stout; a grandson, Drew Miller; and a great-grandson, 
Dyron Paul Schutte.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 14, 
2020, at the Plains United Methodist Church. Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to the Young at Heart in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.

Barbara Jane (Krehbiel) Huber, 72, Hays, died Thursday, February 6, 2020 at HaysMed.

She was born July 16, 1947 in Scott 
City, Kansas, the daughter of Orville Lloyd and Elnor Hope (Hinderliter)
 Krehbiel.&nbsp; She was a graduate of Dighton High School in the class of 
1965.&nbsp; She attended Fort Hays State University where she earned 
Bachelor’s Degrees in Nursing and Music Performance and was a registered
 nurse at Hadley Hospital and Hays Orthopedic Clinic.&nbsp; On June 12, 1971 
she was united in marriage to John Elwyn Huber in Dighton, Kansas, and 
they celebrated 43 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on 
January 10, 2015.&nbsp; Memberships included First United Methodist Church, 
Sigma Kappa, Sigma Alpha Iota, and P.E.O. &nbsp;She enjoyed classical music, 
singing, baking, and canning a variety of jams, jellies, pickles, and 
sauces.&nbsp; She loved being outside in her flower and vegetable gardens.&nbsp; 
Growing produce to give to others brought her great joy.

Survivors include a son: Derek Huber of
 Decatur, TN; a daughter: Julinne Kemp and husband Brian of Lawrence; 
six grandchildren: Lauren Kemp, Ella Kemp, Aidan Kemp, Aleia Kemp, Rylan
 Kemp, and Michael Huber; five brothers: Larry Krehbiel and wife Vicki 
of Dighton, Tony Krehbiel and wife Judi of Tulsa, OK, James Krehbiel and
 wife Genelle of Scott City, Mark Krehbiel and wife Kit of Quinter, and 
Rick Krehbiel and wife Amy of Greeley, CO; two sisters: Judy Musselwhite
 and husband Ron of Dighton and Pam Schnuelle of Beatrice, NE; and 
numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, John.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on 
Saturday, February 15, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church with

Esther Mae Eicher, 90, of Brewster, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, at the 
Logan County Hospital, Oakley. She was born Jan. 15, 1930, in Thomas 
County, Kansas, to Harry and Lois (McArthur) Eicher. 


Esther graduated from Colby High School and earned her bachelor’s degree
 in nutrition at the University of Colorado, Boulder.  She went on to 
receive a Master’s in Public Health from the University of California, 
Berkeley. 


Esther spent her professional career ensuring that children received 
proper nutrition. She worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 
Denver before being selected to assist with implementation of a Head 
Start nutrition program in Washington, D.C. 


She was living a few blocks north of the Capitol during the impeachment 
process against Richard M. Nixon and had lifelong memories of people 
being extra nice to each other on the bus during that time of unrest. 


She decided to return to Colorado after a couple of years in Washington,
 and there she monitored the nutritional content of school lunches and 
helped launch the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, 
Infants and Children as part of the USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service 
(FNS). 


She also frequently traveled to reservations in Wyoming, Montana and 
North and South Dakota to help with nutrition education efforts for 
Native American mothers and children. She met tribal chiefs she never 
forgot.

By 1989, she was working as the regional nutrition director for the FNS 
Mountain Plains Regional Office, but she decided to give up her career 
to take care of her aging parents. She moved back to the farm near 
Brewster, where she grew up.
From that time forward, she lived primarily on the farm. Near the end of
 her life, her nephew, Eric, came to stay there with her, so that she 
could live for as long as medically possible in the home that she loved.
Although she never married and had no children, she maintained close 
relationships with her many nieces and nephews and their families. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kenneth Eicher; 
sisters, Lillian Buckner and Edith Taylor; nieces, Lee Ann Taylor and 
Maril Taylor; and nephews, Allan Taylor, Harry Taylor, Michael Warren 
Eicher and Dennis Buckner; and her beloved dog, Tobie.
She is survived by her brother Curtis Eicher and wife Beverly, of Colby;
 and nieces and nephews, Jon (Reva) Eicher, of Maize; Greg Eicher (Paul 
Black, of Portland, Ore.; Susan Eicher, of Lafayette, Ind.; Mary (Doug)
 Olson, of Palmer, Alaska; Brian (Sherrie) Eicher, of Brewster; Tom 
(Kristie) Taylor, of Minden, Neb.; Bill Taylor, of Colby; Rob Taylor, of
 Colby; Lois (Leland) Francis, of Wilson; Sue Taylor, of Colby; Kris 
Taylor, of Salina; David (Sandy) Buckner, of Boulder, Colo.; Eric 
(Vanessa) Eicher, of Lawrence; and Erin (Randy) Mathews, of Salina.
