Evelyn Josephine Penka

Evelyn Josephine Penka, 92, passed away March 28, 2020, at University Of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus, Great Bend. She was born September 19, 1927, in rural Hoisington to John and Antonia (Langer) Stoss. Evelyn married Edward Lambert Penka October 15, 1947, in Olmitz. He died October 17, 2007.

Evelyn was a resident of Great Bend since 1967 moving from rural Beaver. She was a long time proud checker at Dillons and had a home cleaning service. Evelyn was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Altar Society, and enjoyed every aspect of homemaking, especially cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, clothing fashion and ironing.

Survivors include her three children, Karen Wallace and husband Ken of Wichita, Kenneth Penka and wife Rhonda of Great Bend and Kathy Penka of Lenexa; one sister, Arlene Yarmer of Galatia; sister in law, Darlene Stoss of Hosington; ten grandchildren, Jeremy Penka, Grant Wallace, Dillon Wallace, Denise Dietz, Tony Penka, Gina Calhoon, Lisa Shepherd, Rolla Hansen, Garin Hansen and Emory Hansen; and 12 great grandchildren and one step great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; son, Dale; brother, Edward Stoss; and two sisters, Erma Schloctermeier and Leona Reichuber.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend with Father Don Bedore presiding. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Beaver. Public visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 31, 2020, at Bryant Funeral Home. Public celebration of life services are pending, due to the Mass restrictions and limitations set forth by the Catholic Diocese, and will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Holy Family School Endowment Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
