Michael Ray Coffey Jr., 48, passed away Monday, March 16,&nbsp;2020 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Kearney, NE.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Michael was born September 25, 1971, in Takoma Park, Maryland, the son of Michael Ray Coffey Sr. and Mona Kay (Antrim) Coffey. Michael grew up in Norton, KS, attended the Norton Schools, graduating with the class of 1991.&nbsp;

On August 10, 1996, Michael and Amy (Nelson) Coffey were united in marriage in Norton, KS. To this union they were blessed with two children, Kayla and Zach. Michael enjoyed working for the City of Norton,&nbsp;Parks &amp; Cemetery Department, but more than the work itself he loved the camaraderie he had with his co-workers.

Michael was a member of the Norton Christian Church and the Norton Eagles Lodge.&nbsp;He loved all kinds of sports throughout his life, from playing baseball and football in High School, to coaching little kids baseball later in life. Michael enjoyed fishing, camping, working in his garden, outdoor activities with his family and friends&nbsp;and playing with his dogs. However, anyone that knew Michael knew that his favorite hobby was loving life, laughing and teasing his family, especially his wife Amy. He loved children and they were drawn to him wherever he went. His greatest joy was spending as much time as possible with his family and friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Michael is survived by the love of his life, his wife Amy Coffey of the home in Norton, a daughter Kayla (Jake) Branch of Zurich, KS, a son Zach Coffey of the home in Norton, parents Mike and Mona Coffey of Norton, a sister Michelle Garwood of&nbsp;Norton,&nbsp;father &amp; mother-in-law Bill and Doris Nelson of Norton, brother-in-law Blain Nelson of Norton, sister-in-law Missy (Brian) McMullen of Norton. Special Uncles J.W. Antrim of Hays, KS, Jim Antrim of Norton,&nbsp;cousin&nbsp;Tim Boteler of Arvada, CO, and special friend, the last of the 3 amigos, Tobi&nbsp;Boller&nbsp;of Norton.&nbsp;Many nieces, nephews and friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was&nbsp;proceeded&nbsp;in death by his maternal grandparents, Bill and Virginia Antrim, paternal grandparents Wade and Evelyn Coffey, three aunts,&nbsp;Lita&nbsp;Arehart, Fran&nbsp;Loveccio, and Gloria Coffey, two uncles, Robert and Dean Coffey, one brother-in-law Blake Nelson, and one special friend, Jimmy Underwood.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A celebration of Michael’s life will be held at 10:30 am. Saturday March 28, 2020 at Norton Christian Church, 208 N Kansas Ave, Norton, KS, with Pastor Nate Hagan officiating. Longtime Sharon Springs, KS resident Eldon Lee Rohn, 83, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2020.

Eldon was born on December 8, 1936, in WaKeeney, KS to Ferdinand and Lydia (Dietz) Rohn.&nbsp; He was one of two children.&nbsp; He attended school in Wakeeney and graduated from Sharon Springs High School in 1955.

On June 13, 1955, Eldon married Eleanor Fawn Gfeller in Sharon Springs.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two sons, Rodney and Bryan. &nbsp;

Eldon joined the United States National Guard in 1955 and was a longtime Reserve member, which enabled him to serve his country, as well as farm the land he loved so much. As a farmer, Eldon took great pride in working his land.&nbsp; In fact, he was a top producer and had beennationally recognized by the National Grain Sorghum Producers on multiple occasions.&nbsp; He loved his family dearly and enjoyed attending sprint car races and riding motorcycles.&nbsp; Eldon was also a collector of many things and liked working with his hands. &nbsp;

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, both of his sons, and his brother,William R. Rohn.

Surviving family includes his daughters-in-law Kelley Rohn of Dodge City, KS and Nancy Rohn of Topeka, KS; four grandchildren, Cameron Rohn of Austin, TX, Derek Rohn of Kansas City, MO, Hollie Rohn Spencer (Jason) of Topeka, KS and Trever Rohn (Tara) of Hays, KS.&nbsp; He is also survived by two nephews,Mark (Barb) Rohn of Colorado Springs, CO and Blaine (Tamara) Rohn of Hutchinson, KS. &nbsp;

Sandra Kaye Cook, 69, formerly of Charleston, Arkansas, went to be 
with the Angels March 22, 2020 at Leisure Homestead in St. John, KS.

She was born April 9, 1950 in Oxnard, CA, the daughter of Jimmy Cecil
 and Frances Louise Yarnell Colburn.&nbsp; She moved from Arkansas to Larned 
in 2018.

She was a devoted Christian and loved the Lord, read her Bible every 
morning and relied on her faith to always get her through the tough 
times; she loved cooking, baking, doing stained glass, playing games, 
going to garage sales and was always a champagne fashionista with a beer
 budget.&nbsp; She was known as Nanny by her grandchildren and loved spending
 time with them.&nbsp; It’s our last pucky pucky Nanny! We Love You!

She was united in marriage to Jimmy Lee Cook September 13, 1968 in Oxnard, California. He passed away December 21, 2007.

Survivors include: two daughters, Lee Andra “L.A.” (Kevin) Cook 
Martin, Forks, WA, Candice “C.C.” (Garrick) Cook Dunn, Charleston, AR; 
son, Christopher Cook, Edmond, OK; two sisters, her twin, Candice

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Scott City, Kansas and was a member of the United Methodist Women.

On April 11, 1981 she married Darryl Clinton in Healy, Kansas.&nbsp; He survives.

Survivors include her Husband - Darryl Clinton of Scott City, Kansas, Two Sons - Matthew &amp; Marissa Clinton of Scott City, Kansas, Jeremy Clinton of Scott City, Kansas, Mother - Delores Roemer of Scott City, Kansas, Two Grandchildren - Kale Clinton and Karli Clinton of Scott City, Kansas, and Three Brothers - Vernon &amp; Michelle Roemer of Colby, Kansas, Kenneth &amp; Dana Roemer of Emporia, Kansas, Dennis &amp; Janet Roemer of Edmond, Oklahoma.

Effie Ione Sutton, age 92, passed away on March 23, 2020 at the Cedar
 Village Care Center in Ness City, Kansas. She was born on June 18, 1927
 in Horton, Kansas the daughter of Charles and Melinda (Davis) 
Parkerson.

She was a graduate of Ottawa University, Ottawa, Kansas, a teacher, a
 member of the First Baptist Church, Ness City and a member of the 
Jonathan Gilbert Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. 
She enjoyed playing bridge and attending the Golden Years Leisure 
Center. She married John Eugene Sutton on June 8, 1949, in Topeka, 
Kansas. John preceded her in death on July 5, 1994.

Survivors include two daughters, Melba Sutton of Topeka, Kansas, 
Melinda Walker and her husband, Bob; two sons, Warren Sutton and his 
wife, Pam, Clyde Sutton and his wife, Terry; one bother, Keith Parkerson
 and his wife, Jo, all of Ness City; one sister, Maxine Bronson of 
Littleton, Colorado; eight grandchildren; 20 Great-Grandchildren and 1 
great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her 
husband, John; two brothers, Charles and Harvey Parkerson and four 
sisters, Lois Reid, Arlone Husted, and Flora Parkerson and one great 
granddaughter, Adalyn Hann.

Funeral service and burial will be on Thursday, March 26, 2020, 10:00

Effie Ione Sutton

Delores Ann Herrera, age 77, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at Wichita County Health Center in Leoti, Kansas.  Delores was born June 17, 1942 at Bridgeport, Nebraska, the daughter of Carlos Jose &amp; Maria Marina (Arellano) Lopez.

A resident of Leoti, Kansas since 1964 moving from Minatare, Nebraska, she served as dispatch for Wichita County Sheriffs Office from January 1, 1978 until her retirement on February 28, 2006.

Delores was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the Relief Society in Scott City, Kansas.

On August 4, 1964 she married Pete Paul Herrera, Sr. at Minatare, Nebraska.

Her husband, Pete P. Herrera, Sr. of Leoti, Kansas; Six Children including Pete Paul &amp; Penny Herrera, Jr. of Newport News, Virginia, Adam Daniel &amp; Bonnie Herrera of Boston, Massachusetts, Esther &amp; Dennis Sturdivant of Surprise, Arizona, Lillie &amp; Calvin Haverfield of Russell Springs, Kansas, Marcus &amp; Donna Herrera of Leoti, Kansas, Isabel &amp; Ian McDonald of St. George, Utah and a brother Danny &amp; Christina Lopez of Rockford, Illinois.  Dolores and Pete have Twenty- Six Grandchildren and Thirty-Six Great Grandchildren.

She was born March 9, 1942 in Edmond, KS, the daughter of Vernon G.F. and Alberta F. (Bauguess) Gill.&nbsp; 


  Vi was a past member of #3288 Women's Auxiliary, Harmonson Redd Unit 
#63 The American Legion Auxiliary and Red Hat Society all of Norton, KS.

  She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Bonnell and Calvin Gill and a sister Nellie Shearer.


  Vi is survived by her husband Wayne Belden of Norton; two sons, Steven
 Meier and wife Brenda of Topeka, Curtis Meier of Norton; step-son, 
Kelly Belden; step-daughter, Carla Belden; sister-in-law Anise Gill of 
Norton; brother-in-law Dean Shearer of Norton, &nbsp;seven grandchildren, 
Justin, Cody, Samantha, Axle, Emily, Jessica and Jamie,

Frances Elaine Castro, 88, passed away March 22, 2020, at her home in
 St. John. She was born on December 13, 1931, at Kalamazoo, Michigan, to
 Harry &amp; Lottie (Mosey) Hendrick.

Coming from Arizona in 2006, Frances was a St. John resident. She was
 a unity lay minster and caregiver. She enjoyed making quilts and

Survivors include, a son, Brian Wait and wife Karen of West Virginia;
 six daughters, Linda Burnham of Kalamazoo, Mich., Louise Dressler and

LaVern Doris Huddleston, 94, Alexander, Kansas, died Friday, March 
20, 2020, at Rush County Memorial Hospital, La Crosse, Kansas.

LaVern was born April 2, 1925, in Alexander, Kansas, the daughter of 
Peter Casper and Elsa E. (Ebert) Boese.&nbsp; She was a lifelong resident of 
Alexander, Kansas.&nbsp; A 1943 graduate of Alexander High School, Alexander,
 Kansas, she received her teaching certificate from Fort Hays Kansas 
State College, Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; She was a teacher in Bazine, Kansas, and a
 substitute teacher in Alexander, Kansas, before her retirement.

She was a former member of the Community of Christ Church, and Golden Keys, both of Alexander, Kansas.

“The Best Fried Chicken in Rush County” was the accolade from fellow 
Rush Countians.&nbsp; Every year, LaVern would purchase 250 – 300 chickens 
from Claude Schwab.&nbsp; LaVern was a excellent cook and baker.&nbsp; She made 
sure no one ever left her house hungry.

On November 13, 1949, she married Alton W. Huddleston at the RLDS Church, Alexander, Kansas.

Survivors include:&nbsp; her husband, Alton Huddleston, Alexander, Kansas;
 one son, Larry Huddleston, Alexander, Kansas; one daughter, Kathy Coen 
(Jim, Osage City, Kansas; two grandchildren, Justin Coen (Amy, Topeka,
 Kansas, and Jenny Hageman (Brad, Pilesgrove, New Jersey; three great 
grandchildren, Harper Coen, Jackson Hageman, and Sam Hageman; and one 
brother, Don Boese (Janet) Hoisington, Kansas.

LaVern Doris Huddleston

John August Juenemann was born November 10, 1939 in Selden, KS to Fred 
A. and Rose A. (Kaus) Juenemann. He passed away March 21, 2020 at his 
home in Oberlin at the age of 80. 


John lived in the Selden area until the age of 9 and then his family
 moved to a farm near Clayton. He attended Violenta Country School, 
Clayton Grade and High School and then graduated from Fort Hays State 
with a bachelor’s degree. John served in the US Army National Guard 
during The Cuban Crisis and was stationed at Ft. Leonardwood, MO, Ft. 
Carson, Colorado and Ft. Riley, Kansas. He married Henrietta Goscha on 
July 25, 1964 in Oberlin, KS. John worked for Decatur Coop for 32 years,
 28 of those years he was the General Manager. He was the formulator of 
“Ultimate Lawn &amp; Tree Fertilizer”, President of the C.M.A. 
Distributors, Inc. (The Ultimate Fertilizer Co.) and was an influential 
part of the Kanona Coop purchase and the Danbury Coop merger. John was a
 talented musician and shared that talent in many ways. He sang for many
 community functions, traveled through Iceland, Greenland, Newfoundland 
and Labrador singing for the US Military personnel in the North 
Atlantic. John and his family made a musical album in 1976 and traveled 
for eight years singing for many organizations. John was a member of the
 Knights of Columbus since age 18 and served on the Sacred Heart Church 
parish council, scholarship committee, finance committee and taught 
grade school and high school CCD classes. He was involved in many 
community projects. John’s honesty, enthusiasm, excitement, smile, music
 and positive attitude all had a very positive influence on those around
 him. He was a true example of a God loving, family loving, and people 
loving person, as well as a loving grandfather.


John was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Rose; brothers, 
Ben and Lawrence Juenemann and grandson, Gabe Thomas. He is survived by 
his wife, Hank, of the home; children: Carolyn (Kevin) Lunsford of 
Easton, KS, Ron (Charlene) Juenemann of Phillipsburg, KS, Gary

Regis Dean Schulte, age 71, of 
Wichita, Kansas, died Monday, March 16, 2020, at Ascension Via Christi 
Hospital-St. Francis Wichita, Kansas. He was born November 21,1948, at 
Hays, Kansas to John and Amelia “Mollie” (Dinkel) Schulte.&nbsp; He married 
Brenda Kay (Sechler) on July 7, 1973, at Victoria, Kansas.

He was a draftsman engineer at the 
Coleman Company in Wichita for 44 years and retired in 2011.&nbsp; He grew up
 in Victoria and was a 1966 graduate of Victoria High School.&nbsp;He 
graduated from Wichita State University with an Engineering Degree.&nbsp; 
Regis was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Wichita 
and very active in the parish. He also was a volunteer at The Center of 
Hope in Wichita.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda 
Schulte, of the home; one son, Matthew Schulte and wife, Jane, Wichita, 
KS; one daughter, Kimberly Schulte, Maize, KS; one brother, Damian 
Schulte and wife, Alicia, Escondido, CA; one sister, Claudia Hertel, 
Great Bend, KS; three grandchildren, George Schulte, Braden Schulte and

Linda Sue Hafliger went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 18, 2020. She was born in Hays, Kansas on March 17, 1950, to Carrol and Deryl (Murphy) Wynn. Linda was united in marriage to David Eugene Hafliger, at the Ogallah Christian Church on August 9, 1970. They cherished 49 years of marriage and raised four children together.

She graduated from Trego Community High School in 1968, obtained her LPN after graduating Colby Community College in 1970, and obtained her Registered Nursing License after graduating from Fort Hays State University in 1982. She was passionate about her 50 year nursing career and cared deeply for her patients and colleagues. &nbsp;

As a dedicated, lifelong member of the Ogallah Christian Church, she served as an OCC pianist at the early age of 9 and continued for 59 years. She was active in OCC Ladies Aid, Friendly Dozen E.H.U., Harmony Club, as an alto, and Ogallah 4-H club, receiving the Friend of 4-H award for her dedication in teaching children how to bake and sew.&nbsp;

Linda enjoyed reading, singing, baking, sewing, quilting, knitting, cross-stitching, painting, and doll making. She loved every opportunity to share these passions with her children and grandchildren. Spending time with them was important to her and attended many of their musical, school, or sporting events.&nbsp;

Linda will be missed greatly by not only her family but many friends in the community.

Linda is survived by her husband, Dave of the family home; two sons, Jonathan and Jeffrey (Michelle) both of WaKeeney; two daughters, Jayme (Charles) Ghumm and Jessica (Tracy) Buchholz, both of Ogallah; 12 grandchildren, Kaitlyn (James, Madison, Aliyah, Aspen, Bryn, TJ, Jordyn, Ethan (Keisha, David (Taylor, Jacy, Abigail (Jerrick, and Emily (Hunter); five great-grandchildren, Waylon, Wyatt, Braxton, Ayden, and Elijah, with another on the way; her mother Deryl Wynn, two brothers, Bill (Patty) Wynn and Thomas (Tabitha) Wynn; three sisters, Peggy Braun, Vicki (Dale) Henderson, and JuLee Wynn and many cherished nieces and nephews. &nbsp;

She was preceded in death by infant grandson, Garret James Richmeier; father, Carrol Wynn; father and mother-in-law, Calvin and Ruth Hafliger and their infant son, Larry Hafliger; brother-in-law, Joseph Braun, Jr.; niece, Diane Henderson; and nephew, Wayne Braun.

A family hosted memorial service HAS BEEN POSTPONED (SEE BELOW, at the Ogallah Christian Church, Ogallah, KS. An inurnment will take place at the Ogallah Cemetery.&nbsp;

Mike Jones was born March 26, 1953, in Bogue, Kansas, to Maurice and Ruth 
Mary (Malin) Jones. He passed away March 19, 2020, at Great Plains 
Health, North Platte, NE at the age of 66.


Mike graduated from Bogue High School and then went on to get his 
associate degree from NWKTS. He married Denise Parks at the United 
Methodist Church in Hill City, Ks on September 4, 1976. Mike worked in 
the oil industry from 1976 to 2019. He enjoyed camping, fishing, 
trapping turtles and frogs and playing card games.  Mike also loved 
spending time with his grandkids and best friend, Gary Alstrom. 


Mike was preceded in death by his father, Maurice; brother, Richard 
Jones and father-in-law, Albert Parks. He is survived by his wife, 
Denise of Oberlin, KS; mother, Peggy Jones of Hill City, Kansas; sons: 
Wade (Renee) Jones of Oberlin, KS and Tim Jones of Lawrence, KS; 
sisters: Debbie Budig and Sandy Patton; grandchildren: Hannah, Morgan, 
Kacie, Hunter and Charleigh; nieces, nephews, and great nieces and

Mike Jones

Doran Lee Kinyon, 66, died Friday March 20, 2020 at St. Catherine 
Hospital in Garden City, Kansas after a long battle with illness. Doran 
was born on March 5, 1954 to John Henry and Berniece (Thieler) Kinyon in
 Phillipsburg, Kansas.


He married Rebecca Pfaff on May 19, 1979 in Brownell, Kansas.  Doran was
 a jack-of-all trades and prided himself in fixing things. He enjoyed 
hunting, fishing, and most of all time spent with his family. Over the 
years Doran worked for Hembree Well Service and spent the last 28 years 
with Kansas Natural Gas.


Doran is survived by his wife of 40 years, Becky of the home, his sons- 
Adam (Kelly) Kinyon of Garden City, Kansas, Dalton Kinyon of Holcomb, 
Kansas and Charles (Kayla) Kinyon of Larned, Kansas, 3 grandchildren- 
Connor Kinyon, Ensley and Jensen Kinyon, sisters- Elaine Morgan of Agra,
 Kansas, Ethel (Howard) Halbert of Denver, Colorado, Evelyn (Lynn) 
Stones of Smith Center, Kansas, sister-in-law Bonnie Kinyon, as well as 
many nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers- Darrell Kinyon and Dale Kinyon.


There will be a Memorial Service at a later date. The family would like 
to extend a special thanks to the staff of Heartland Cancer Center as

Doran Lee Kinyon

Randall Jay Dumler, 58, died March 21, 2020, at his home in 
Hoisington. He was born September 14, 1961, in Ellsworth, Kansas, the 
son of Donald and Marilyn (Kruger) Dumler. Randy graduated from Sterling
 High School and then attended Hutchinson Community College and St. 
Johns College in Winfield.

A longtime resident of Hoisington, Randy worked as a valve assembler 
for Cashco for 30 years. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist 
Catholic Church. Randy was an avid fisherman, cook, and gardener. He 
loved to travel and spending time with his family, especially having 
sleepovers with the grandchildren.

On September 25, 1999, he married Mary Smith in Hoisington, Kansas.

He is survived by his wife Mary Dumler of the home; his mother, 
Marilyn K. Dumler of Ellsworth; siblings, Jan Thorne and partner Gary 
Wallert of Ellsworth, Donald Dumler of Omaha, Nebraska, Karla Bennett 
and husband Jeff of Sterling; children, Nicholas Lomas and wife Annie of
 Hoisington, Alexander Lomas and wife Stephanie of Hoisington, Erik 
Simpson of Great Bend, and Connie Graffia and husband Sammy of Great 
Bend; grandchildren, Braden Konzem, Peyton and Paislee Lomas, Chloe and 
Allisyn Westphal, and Gage Graffia.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Gene Dumler.

Randall Jay Dumler

Niki Leone Murray, 75, passed away March 20, 2020, at Hospice House, 
Hutchinson. She was born October 11, 1944, at Brisbane, Australia, to 
John Vincent and Diane (Tattersal) Murray.

A long-time resident of Holyrood, Niki was loving mother, grandmother
 and caregiver for her family. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic 
Church, Holyrood, and enjoyed reading and all animals.

Survivors include two daughters, Desiree Werth of Holyrood and Dawn 
Feist of Great Bend; seven grandchildren, Ashley Rios, Keshia Werth, 
Sydney Werth, Jotni Pankey, Kialy Giesking, Brianna Feist and Kirsten 
Feist; seven great grandchildren; and one sister, Jacquline Yager of 
Holyrood. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Diane 
Murray; one daughter, Sue Murray, and one brother, John Vincent Murray, 
II.

Funeral will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2020, at Bryant Funeral 
Home, with Father Don Bedore presiding. Interment will follow at Holy

Niki Leone Murray

The Rev. Father Dermot Francis Tighe, 89, passed away on St. Patrick’s 
Day, March 17, 2020, at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita. He was born 
August 4, 1930, to James Tighe and Sarah (McDermott) Tighe in 
Strokestown, Ireland, county of Roscommon. He was the youngest of ten.

Dermot attended elementary school at St. Mary’s Strokestown and 
Cloonfree. At age 11 he won an academic scholarship to attend the 
Diocesan high school at Summerhill College in Sligo, Ireland. Following 
high school, he attended the seminary at St Patrick’s College in Carlow,
 Ireland. He was very involved in athletics during his school years 
particularly the Irish game of hurling.

Dermot heard his calling to the priesthood, and at the age 24, took 
his vows and was ordained on June 6, 1954, at the Cathedral of the 
Assumption, Carlow, Ireland, by the Most Rev. Thomas Keogh, bishop of 
the Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin. Father Tighe was recruited to 
Kansas by Monsignor John Cody, who was originally from Kilkenny, 
Ireland, and had great success recruiting Irish priests to Kansas. In 
Kansas, Father Tighe was assigned to parishes throughout the Dodge City 
Archdiocese. He served as an assistant pastor at St. Joseph’s, 
Liebenthal (1954-57, and Sacred Heart Cathedral, Dodge City (1957-59). 
His early pastorates were St. Lawrence, Jetmore, with St. Anthony, 
Hanston (1959-61, and St. Francis Xavier, Seward, (1961-65). He served 
as chaplain at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend from 1965 to 
1967.

Father Tighe became a United States citizen in 1959, the first week 
he was eligible. In 1967, as Vietnam war escalated, he volunteered to 
serve in the Army, serving as an army chaplain from 1967 to 1976, 
including a year in Vietnam. His first assignment was Fort Hood, Texas, 
and on August 22, 1968, he left for Southeast Asia. There he served on 
the front line and ministered to the infantrymen and gave last rites to 
dying soldiers in the field. Following Vietnam, Father Tighe decided to 
stay in the Army, and was stationed in Ft. McCelland, Alabama, Ft. 
Richardson, Alaska, and Ft. Eustis, Virginia. He also served with the 
National Guard in Washington DC, Dodge City and Hutchinson. He retired 
as a Bird Colonel, which is one rank below a Brigadier General, in 1990.

During his service to the Diocese, Father Tighe held a number of 
diocesan posts including Director of Religious Vocations, Director of 
Hospitals, and a member of the Seminary Board and Priest’s Trust Fund 
Board. Father Tighe also worked in the Tribunal office where he served 
as Judicial Vicar. His later pastorates included St. Andrew, Wright 
(1977-84); St. Stanislaus, Ingalls (1985-91, and St. Patrick, Great 
Bend (1991-97). He was senior priest in residence at St. Patrick, Great 
Bend, until his retirement on Jan. 31, 1998.Following his 
retirement, Father Tighe remained where he considered home, Great Bend, 
and was warmly embraced by the faith community. He had a prominent 
presence at St. Patrick Catholic Church and Lake Barton Golf course, 
where he played regularly. Most recently he lived at the Catholic Care 
Center in Bel Aire, north of Wichita, where he made many new friends.

He has 33 living nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his 
parents, James and Sarah, and siblings, James, Bridie, Mary, Tom, Annie,
 Alice, Brendan, John and Michael.

A private Mass was held and a public Memorial Mass will be held at a 
later date due to Mass restrictions and limitations set forth by the 
Catholic Diocese, due to the current virus pandemic. Throughout his 
life, Father Tighe showed an unwavering devotion to the causes of the 
poor and the unborn. He donated his home in Great Bend to Birthright and
 was charitable to many other causes that were faithful to the book of 
Matthew that the last shall be first. Memorials are suggested to the 
Birthright, Holy Family School Endowment Fund or Prince of Peace Parish,
 in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Kansas, Father Tighe was assigned to parishes throughout the Dodge City 
Archdiocese. He served as an assistant pastor at St. Joseph’s, 
Liebenthal (1954-57, and Sacred Heart Cathedral, Dodge City (1957-59). 
His early pastorates were St. Lawrence, Jetmore, with St. Anthony, 
Hanston (1959-61, and St. Francis Xavier, Seward, (1961-65). He served 
as chaplain at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend from 1965 to 
1967.Father Tighe became a United States citizen in 1959, the first week 
he was eligible. In 1967, as Vietnam war escalated, he volunteered to 
serve in the Army, serving as an army chaplain from 1967 to 1976, 
including a year in Vietnam. His first assignment was Fort Hood, Texas, 
and on August 22, 1968, he left for Southeast Asia. There he served on 
the front line and ministered to the infantrymen and gave last rites to 
dying soldiers in the field. Following Vietnam, Father Tighe decided to 
stay in the Army, and was stationed in Ft. McCelland, Alabama, Ft. 
Richardson, Alaska, and Ft. Eustis, Virginia. He also served with the 
National Guard in Washington DC, Dodge City and Hutchinson. He retired 
as a Bird Colonel, which is one rank below a Brigadier General, in 1990.During his service to the Diocese, Father Tighe held a number of 
diocesan posts including Director of Religious Vocations, Director of 
Hospitals, and a member of the Seminary Board and Priest’s Trust Fund 
Board. Father Tighe also worked in the Tribunal office where he served 
as Judicial Vicar. His later pastorates included St. Andrew, Wright 
(1977-84); St. Stanislaus, Ingalls (1985-91, and St. Patrick, Great 
Bend (1991-97). He was senior priest in residence at St. Patrick, Great 
Bend, until his retirement on Jan. 31, 1998.Following his 
retirement, Father Tighe remained where he considered home, Great Bend, 
and was warmly embraced by the faith community. He had a prominent 
presence at St. Patrick Catholic Church and Lake Barton Golf course, 
where he played regularly. Most recently he lived at the Catholic Care 
Center in Bel Aire, north of Wichita, where he made many new friends.He has 33 living nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his 
parents, James and Sarah, and siblings, James, Bridie, Mary, Tom, Annie,
 Alice, Brendan, John and Michael.A private Mass was held and a public Memorial Mass will be held at a 
later date due to Mass restrictions and limitations set forth by the 
Catholic Diocese, due to the current virus pandemic. Throughout his 
life, Father Tighe showed an unwavering devotion to the causes of the 
poor and the unborn. He donated his home in Great Bend to Birthright and
 was charitable to many other causes that were faithful to the book of 
Matthew that the last shall be first. Memorials are suggested to the 
Birthright, Holy Family School Endowment Fund or Prince of Peace Parish,
 in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Juanita Janssen has been called to assist God with entertaining, book reviews and any other need that might provide grace and eloquence to her new heavenly home.

A life-long Kansan, Juanita died on Friday, March 20, at the age of 100 at The Ranch Nursing Home in Garden City, Kansas.

In heaven, she joins her husband, Alfred Janssen Jr., her parents John and Mamie Henderson, her brothers John and Ed, sister Lucille, plus her oldest grandson, Scott.

Together, Alfred and Juanita raised two sons – Alfred Janssen III of Scott City and Mark Janssen of Manhattan.

Juanita celebrated the accomplishments and cherished traveling with her five grandchildren – Scott, Craig, Kristin, Travis and Kelly – and adored her 11 great-grandchildren – Caroline and Cole in Bozeman, Mt.; Gillian and Shepherd in Fort Collins, Colo.; Avery, Tate, and Turner in Clarksville, Tenn.; Lincoln, Campbell, and Sullivan in Phoenix, Ariz.; and Grace in DeSoto, Kan.

In Juanita’s words, “I was born to be a grandmother.” &nbsp;Some of her most proud moments in life were showing off the grandkids in her travels of the world.

Juanita was blessed with a gift to verbally tell a story through her book reviews, plus simplified the Bible during her Sunday School teachings of nearly 70 years.

She entered the world on a snowy day – January 17, 1920 – in Whitewater, and would then spend her childhood in Wichita where she would graduate from North High.

Staying with her West Side Baptist Church teachings, she attended Ottawa University where she majored in history and thrived as a debater. It’s also at Ottawa where she met Alfred with the two later saying their “I dos” on December 20, 1943.

Scott City would become their home and farming their livelihood for the next four-plus decades until Alfred’s death in the fall of 1989.&nbsp;Juanita enjoyed reading multiple newspapers on a daily basis and then discussing the pros and cons of her beloved K-State Wildcats and Scott City Beavers.

Juanita held numerous offices with the American Baptist Women’s organizations and was a pillar within Scott City’s First Baptist Church since 1946. She was also active in the development of the Scott County Library, plus active in the El Quartelejo Study Club and Scott County Historical Society.

In addition, she enjoyed the arts with a Madonna collection and mini-gallery of pieces painted by southwest artist Ted DeGrazia.

A youth Sunday School teacher instilled the value of – “Do It Well” – into Juanita’s DNA as a teenager, and she certainly did that through her cooking, dress, decorating and teachings during her 100 years of life.

Juanita is in a better place today, and that place is better because she is present.

Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas with Pastor Bob Arts presiding.&nbsp;

Memorials In Lieu of Flowers can be made to the Scott County Library or Scott County Arts Council in care of Price and Sons Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday at Price &amp; Sons Funeral Home in Scott City, Kansas.

Juanita Janssen

Norton resident Robert Eugene Underwood passed away, Tuesday, March 
17, 2020, at the Logan Manor Nursing Home in Logan at the age of 73.

He was born the eldest son of James Loyal and Jacqueline (Valle) 
Underwood, on February 18, 1947, in Norton.&nbsp; He was raised to manhood on 
the family farm in Densmore.&nbsp; He attended Mechanic school in Wichita and
 then returned home to the farm and work for KDOT.&nbsp; He was a member of 
the Kansas National Guard.

He met the love of his life, Virginia Lee Rice and was united in marriage on June 14, 1969, in Almena.

Robert was very active in the community, he was a city councilman, 
member of the American Legion, served as Densmore Class President and a 
member of the Christian Church.

After 35 years at KDOT and 26 years with the Kansas National Guard, 
he retired.&nbsp; His passion was restoring tractors, especially Farmall.&nbsp; He
 was big in the Sunflower Pioneer Power Assoc. (SPPA) and the 
International Harvester Collectors Club.&nbsp; He was very passionate about 
his tractors.&nbsp; Anyone that needed help, he was there for you.

Robert is survived by his wife, Virginia of Norton; daughters Deanna 
Sumner and husband Todd of Norcatur and Denise Roberson of Hoxie; son 
Dan and wife Russchelle of Joes, CO; 8 grandchildren; many great 
grandchildren; and a brother William of Norton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gloria Jones; brother, Pat; son, James; and grandson, Brandon Sumner.

Cremation was planned.&nbsp; Private Memorial Services will be held at 
2:00 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2020 in the Norton Christian Church, 
Norton.&nbsp; Inurnment with military honors will follow in the Norton 
Cemetery, Norton.&nbsp; The memorial services will be streamed live on 
Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel's Facebook page.
