Audrey Ann Pavlicek was born July 14, 1942 in Oberlin, KS to Donald 
Charles and Mary Christine (Fisher) Lemman. She passed away March 26, 
2020 in Oberlin at the age of 77.


Audrey grew up in Oberlin, KS and graduated from Decatur County High
 School in 1960. She went on to graduate from McCook Jr. College in 1962
 and Kearney College in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary 
Education. Audrey married Murry Dean Pavlicek on October 26, 1961 at the
 Oberlin Covenant Church. She began her teaching career at a Country 
School in District 91 in Frontier County, NE for six years teaching K-8 
grades then in 1968 they moved to McCook, NE and she taught 4th Grade at
 Eastward Elementary for three years. In 1971, she taught Preschool in 
Denver before returning to Oberlin in 1974. Audrey started out as a 
substitute teacher then taught at Norcatur Elementary School 1st-3rd 
grades for 10 years until the school closed in 1985. She then began 
teaching at Oberlin Elementary School, teaching one year of 
Kindergarten, then 5th grade, and finished her career teaching 1st grade
 until her retirement in 2004. She loved teaching so much that she 
continued tutoring students during the summer. Audrey loved having her 
student do plays/programs. She would have Murry help build the sets and 
set them up. 


Audrey loved her family and had many fond memories of growing up 
with her cousins, playing cowboys and Indians, paper dolls, coloring and
 reading. Audrey sold Home Interiors for 10 years, earning a trip to 
Hawaii for two, which she traded in for a trip to Florida for four. The 
whole family got to go to Walt Disney World, Sea World, and Busch 
Gardens. She was a member of KNEA and was a past president of the 
Lioness Club. Audrey loved reading, embroidery and making doll clothes 
for Kelli and Kristi’s dolls. She also enjoyed bowling, playing Bingo 
and watching Days of Our Lives and Dallas. 


Audrey devoted her life to her parents, sisters and brother, 
husband, daughters, nieces and nephews and her beloved grandchildren. 
She attended every event possible that her family was involved in. She 
spent many hours babysitting Kerri’s boys while she worked and got her 
master’s degree. She valued family and loved family reunions; she was 
their rock. Audrey had a beautiful smile and was rarely seen without it.
 Her family will never forget “Audrey is a good girl”.


Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Mary Lemman;
 sister, Dona VanPelt and brothers-in-law, Roy VanPelt and Steve Newton.
 She is survived by her husband, Murry of the home; children: Kelli 
Butherus (Daniel) of Wichita, KS and Kerri Schippers (Marvin Kaus) of 
Hoxie, KS; siblings: Janet Wright (Stephen) of Hays, KS, Donnie Lemman 
(Gerry) of Hays, KS, Carol Hodson (Scott) of Omaha, NE; brother-in-law, 
Cletus Knipp of Hays, KS; sister-in-law, Marcia Lemman of Salina, KS; 
grandchildren: Kollyn Schippers of Oberlin, KS, Mark Schippers of Colby,
 KS, Luke Schippers of Hoxie, KS, Clay and Erin Butherus of Wichita, KS 
and 16 nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday, March 30, 2020 at Pauls 
Funeral Home for immediate family only. Burial will follow at Oberlin 
Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-5:00 pm Sunday, March 29, 2020 at Pauls 
Funeral Home in Oberlin. Public is welcome but we will need to limit the
 numbers in the building and social distancing practices must be

Audrey Ann Pavlicek

Dale G. Zimmerman, 54, passed away March 26, 2020, at Chase County 
Care &amp; Rehab, Cottonwood Falls, Kan. He was born on June 7, 1965, at
 Great Bend, Kan., the son of LaVern &amp; Dianna (Diehl) Zimmerman.

He was a repairman for Sears for 23 years. He was of the Catholic faith. Dale enjoyed casinos and drag racing.

Survivors include, his parents, LaVern and Dianna Zimmerman; wife, 
Candy of El Dorado; and one sister, Patricia Morgan and husband Kim of 
Owasso, Okla.

There will be no viewing or services at this time as cremation has 
taken place. A private family memorial service will be held at a later 
date. Memorials are suggested to the Cancer Fund at GBCF, in care of 
Bryant Funeral Home.

John Bernard Stramel, age 74 of Hays, Kansas passed away Sunday March 22, 2020, in Hays.&nbsp; He was born July 28, 1945 in WaKeeney, Kansas to Rudy and Matilda (Wessel) Stramel. On May 30, 1969 he married Linda Marie (Riggs).

John had worked as a millwright building feedmills and grain elevators. He was a US Army Veteran serving in Vietnam in 1967-1968. He said many times the country home he tended wasn’t his, it all belongs to the Lord, he was just tending it. Psalms 23 or John 14 were his favorite bible verses.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife, Linda; a sister Mary (Delbert) Stefan, Cimarron, KS; and&nbsp; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Cliff, Jim and Bill, and a nephew, Scott.

Cremation was chosen and his wishes were to have no services. Arrangements in care of Brock's-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601.

John Bernard Stramel

Ruth Mae (Nuss) Critser, 91, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2020 at her home in WaKeeney, KS.


  Ruth was born May 4, 1928 in the country home of her grandparents, in 
Wheatland Township, Barton County, KS, the tenth child of Reinhold and 
Amalia (Beisel) Nuss.&nbsp; 

  She was baptized Lutheran on May 20, 
1928 in Stickney, KS.&nbsp; She was confirmed on April 18, 1943 in Great 
Bend, KS at Trinity Lutheran Church.&nbsp; 

  Growing up in the 
country, she attended three years in a one room school.&nbsp; Her parents 
moved to Great Bend, KS where she attended three years of high school. 
Ruth received her GED High School Diploma in 1971 while living in 
WaKeeney, KS. She continued her education by taking some college 
courses.

  Ruth started working at age 16 babysitting for 
neighbors’ children. She was a clerk at the Five &amp; Ten Store and 
J.S. Dillions Grocery Store.&nbsp; Ruth worked at the Fairmont Ice Cream 
Store that was operated by her mother.&nbsp; There she met her soul mate, Bob
 Critser, in May of 1944.&nbsp; Ruth and Bob were married August 2, 1946 at 
Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend, KS. They were blessed with 7 
children. They moved to WaKeeney, KS in 1953 where they raised their 
family and built their life. Ruth’s family was her pride and joy. While 
raising their children, Ruth was an active leader in Scouting and youth 
work. She enjoyed embroidering, sewing for her family. She made 
clothing, dolls, aprons, curtains, blankets, tea towels and many other 
projects. 

  Ruth and Bob owned the Coast to Coast Hardware 
Store in WaKeeney where several family members worked.&nbsp; They sold the 
store in 1973 and moved out to their farm south of WaKeeney. &nbsp;Ruth 
enjoyed planting large gardens and canning what she grew. Ruth was an 
avid historian she documented her family’s genealogy in vast volumes on 
her and Bob's families. &nbsp;She treasured photographs, making scrapbooks 
and sharing them with her family. &nbsp;She loved the outdoors and went 
camping, hunting and fishing with Bob, family and friends. They both 
enjoyed traveling and went on many wonderful trips. In June of 2007, 
Ruth and Bob moved into town and sold their family farm.

  Ruth
 was never too busy to help others when needed and volunteered in all 
kinds of community activities.&nbsp; Ruth was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran 
Church and stayed active in the Ladies Aid, Dorcus Group and other 
church functions. Ruth was a member of VFW Auxiliary 3449 since 1976, 
she became a lifetime member on June 21, 2016 and received her 40-year 
membership pin. &nbsp;She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, Diehards 
Friends Group at Cedar Bluff Lake, she was also a lifetime member of 
Eagles. Ruth volunteered for Hospice of Trego County. 

  She 
was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sons, John Eric and 
Marion Douglas Critser, two daughters, infant daughter, Pearl M. Critser
 and Audrey L. Macke, seven brothers, Roland, LeRoy, Ervin, Clarence, 
Gerhardt, Ray Jr. and Wilbur Nuss, four sisters, Josephine Sutton, Irene
 Ledford, Berneice Hillman and Ruby Manweiler.

  Ruth is 
survived by three loving daughters, Lorine (Jim) Kuhn of Kingsland, TX, 
Connie (Ron) Herdt of Smith Center, Nancy (Ron) Nichol of Hill City; a 
sister, Virginia (Carl) Harmony of Great Bend, 18 grandchildren and 31 
great-grandchildren.

Private family services will be held at 
11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 31, 2020&nbsp; at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, 113 
S. Madison St., Smith Center, KS, with Pastor Randy Hill officiating.&nbsp; 
Burial will take place in WaKeeney City Cemetery, WaKeeney, KS, Tuesday,
 March 31, 2020 at 3:30 p.m.

A public celebration of Ruth's life will be scheduled at a later date.

Ruth M. Critser

Ann Elaine Currie, age 92 of Stockton, passed away on Monday, March 16, 
2020 at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville.  Ann was born on 
May 25, 1927 in Concordia, Kansas, grew up in Washington and Manhattan, 
KS and graduated from Manhattan High School in 1945.  Following high 
school, she attended Kansas State University and earned a bachelor’s 
degree in Home Economics Education in 1949 and taught went on to teach 
Home Economics at WaKeeney High School.  Ann was united in marriage to 
Kenneth Clifford Currie on December 21, 1952.  They moved to Stockton in
 1957.


Ann worked a number of years at the Stockton Public Library 
particularly enjoying the Children’s Story Hour and Crafts.  She was a 
60+ year member of the United Methodist Church in Stockton teaching 
Sunday school, serving dinners and receptions and participating in the 
Women’s Society.  An avid follower of Stockton High School, she attended
 activities until just a few years ago.  Ann belonged to many service 
organizations and was particularly active in P.E.O.  Flower gardening 
and sewing/quilting were lifelong interests.  There was a no more 
passionate K-state fan and she was especially proud that her 
granddaughter was a 4th generation Wildcat.


Ann was a devoted mother and is survived by her children, Randall 
(Lisa) Currie of Garden City, KS and Marty Currie (Doug Degler) of 
Hayward, WI; brothers Bill (Helen) Neff, Portage, MI and John (Lorraine)
 Neff, Farmington, CT; sister, Ruth Smethers Olathe, KS; and 1 special 
granddaughter, Amanda Currie of Garden City, KS.


Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband and life partner, Ken and parents, Leonard and Margaret (Ferguson) Neff. 


A memorial service will be held at a later date.

the Ann E. Currie Home Economics scholarships which have benefited Rooks
 County students studying in these fields at K-State for over 25 years.

Ann Elaine Currie

	Robert “Bob” Brubaker, of Bird City, Kansas, was born on March 14, 1923, to Fred P. Brubaker and Floy E. (Boren) Brubaker.&nbsp; He was the youngest of three children.&nbsp; Bob graduated in 1941 from Bird City High School and attended Fort Hays State College for one year and then transferred to Colorado State University.&nbsp; He joined the Army in 1943 and served in the artillery in the European theatre.&nbsp; Bob was honorably discharged in December 1945 and returned home. &nbsp;

	On February 26, 1947, Bob was united in marriage with Carol Deeds. Six children were born to this union:&nbsp; Marilyn, Elizabeth Jane, Gwen, Charlene, Fred and Gary.&nbsp; In 1959, the family moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, where Bob completed his education at Colorado State University.&nbsp; Bob graduated in 1961 with a degree in agricultural economics. &nbsp;

	The family then returned to Bird City where Bob built his farming operation.&nbsp; Bob loved the land and he was an avid outdoorsman, hunting and fishing in Kansas.&nbsp; He hunted big game in Colorado and Wyoming, geese in Nebraska, turkey in Oklahoma and he fished Texoma.&nbsp; Bob shot his last deer when he was 90 years old.&nbsp; Bob shared his love for hunting and fishing with his sons and grandsons. &nbsp;

	Bob served his community in many ways.&nbsp; He served on the Board of Education in Edson and later in Bird City.&nbsp; He was on the first board for the Northwest Kansas Vo-Tech School which was responsible for building the first building for the school.&nbsp; Bob was on the Bird City Council.&nbsp; As mayor, Bob led the way for constructing the swimming pool and tennis courts.&nbsp; Together Bob, Edgar Robertson, Bob Jones, Floyd Wright and Floyd Jensen established the Century II Foundation for the betterment of the Bird City community.&nbsp; Bob oversaw the establishment of the current Bird City grocery store and he was instrumental in bringing in the Bird City Dairy.&nbsp; Bob served on the board of the Kansas Wheat Growers Association for several years.&nbsp; Bob also was an active member of the United Methodist Church, the American Legion, the Bird City Community Club and the Goodland Elks Club.

	Having lived a principled life for 97 years, Bob passed away on March 23, 2020, at the Atwood Good Samaritan Home.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Carol, his parents, his sister, Winnifred Wamhoff, brother-in-law Alvin Wamhoff, brother Richard Brubaker, sister-in-law Darlene Brubaker, his cousin, Helen, and one son-in-law, Bob Miller.&nbsp; Bob is survived by his children, Marilyn Miller of Flagstaff, Arizona, Elizabeth Jane (Roger) Perkins of Park City, Gwen Houston of Topeka, Charlene (Ivan) Holzmeister of Hays, Fred (Susan) Brubaker of Fowler and Gary (Jane) Brubaker of Bird City, his 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Bob will be buried privately in Bird City and a memorial service will be held in Bird City at a later date.&nbsp; Memorials may be sent to Bird City Century II Foundation or the Bird City United Methodist Church. &nbsp;

Mary Jane (Weigel) Thorpe, age 68, of Olathe, Kansas, died Friday, 
March 20, 2020, at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Overland 
Park, Kansas.

She was born September 14, 1951, in Hays Kansas, to Harold V. and Mary (Scheck) Weigel.

She was a cost accounting manager for 15 years at Smoot/Magnum 
Systems, and retired in 2013.&nbsp; She grew up in Victoria, Kansas, and was a
 1969 salutatorian graduate of Victoria, Kansas.&nbsp; She lived in Hays then
 moved to Olathe in 1987, and was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic 
Church in Olathe.

Survivors include one son, Cory Bieker, Olathe, KS; one 
daughter, Jennifer Kamin, Olathe, KS; one brother, Francis Weigel and 
wife, Beth, Houston, TX; one sister, Joyce Jacobs and husband, Tim, 
Olathe, KS; four grandchildren; Cameron Bieker, Jaedyn Kamin, Mackenzie 
Meinhardt and Macie Meinhardt.

She was in death by her parents and one daughter, Cheryl Ann Bieker.

William “Bill” J. Smith Jr. passed away at the Sheridan County Health 
Complex, Hoxie, Kansas on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at the age of 
eighty-three.   Bill was born July 13, 1936 in Gorham, Kansas to Will 
and Nora (Resley) Smith.  He was the youngest of six children.  Bill 
attended Gorham Elementary and High School graduating with the class of 
1954.  After graduation from high school, he attended Fort Hays State 
University graduating in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 
Secondary Education.  Bill and Arlene Hemel were married March 9, 1958 
and just recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.  They were 
blessed with a daughter, Tonya.  After Graduating from college, Bill 
taught Industrial Arts, Driver’s Education and coached.  The first seven
 years of his career were spent in various schools before Bill and 
Arlene moved to Hoxie, Kansas in August of 1966.  Hoxie became their 
home.  Bill spent thirty-five years teaching Industrial Arts and 
Driver’s Education for USD 412, Hoxie, Kansas.  


Bill was a man of many talents.  He was an excellent teacher, and 
his students made many beautiful woods projects. Many will remember him 
not only as a high school teacher, but he also taught adult classes.  He
 always expected his students to do their best.   Bill loved sports.  He
 was a baseball player in his youth, and as a teacher, he coached 
football and basketball.  After coaching, for several years, he refereed
 basketball for twenty-five years and football for thirty-four years.  
He loved going to his grandchildren’s activities, especially, their 
baseball and softball games.  When Tonya was growing up, they always 
went to at least one major league baseball game.  Bill was a St. Louis 
Cardinals and Royals Fan plus a big supporter of KU.  When he wasn’t 
watching sports or teaching, he enjoyed music.  He sang in the Hoxie 
United Methodist Church Choir for many years, sang for funerals and 
weddings.  


Most of all, Bill loved his family.  They were so important to him. 
 He has been a member of the Hoxie United Methodist Church since moving 
to Hoxie in 1966.  He loved his Lord Jesus Christ with all his heart and
 tried to live a life reflecting his love.  Bill was a kind and patient 
person who gave respect to all.


Bill is survived by his wife, Arlene of the home; daughter, Tonya 
Sager and husband, Alan; grandchildren, Cory Sager and wife, Molly, 
Braden Sager and wife, Shelby, and Darby Sager; and great-grandchild, 
Emma Rose Sager with two more on the way; and other relatives and 
friends.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Nora Smith; 
sister, Berniece Hoke; brothers, Lawrence Smith, LeRoy Smith, Fred Smith
 and Dean Smith. 


A Graveside Service is planned for Saturday, March 28, 2020, 1:00 
P.M. at the Hoxie City Cemetery with Pastor Jake Schadel presiding.  A 
visitation will be held Friday, March 27, 2020 from 1:00 P.M. to 6:00 
P.M. at the Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, Hoxie, Kansas.


Bill was a man of faith and has been welcomed into Jesus Christ’s 
loving arms.  He will be missed by family and friends. We are sad 
because he had to leave us for a while but look forward to the time when
 all will be reunited.

Patricia Ann “Patty” (Karst) Bricker, 67, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2020 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Patty was born December 
7, 1952 in Russell.&nbsp; She was one of five children born to Nathan and 
Dorothy (Anderson) Karst.&nbsp; She grew up in Russell a few years before 
moving to Ellis, Kansas.&nbsp; She graduated from Ellis High School in the 
Class of 1970.

Patty was united in 
marriage to Herman Joseph Bricker on October 14, 1972 in Gorham, 
Kansas.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two children; Sandy and Chris.&nbsp; 
They made their home in the Gorham area and then in the Russell area.&nbsp; 
Herman preceded her in death on November 3, 2019.

Patty was involved with 
food services and bartending at several businesses in the Russell and 
Gorham area.&nbsp; She worked at Russell Elks Lodge, owner and operator of 
the Gorham Café, Log Cabin, Jerry’s Place, Waudby’s and was a dietary 
manager for the Russell Regional Hospital and the Sterling House in 
Hays.&nbsp; She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Gorham.&nbsp; 
She also was a member of the Russell V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and the 
Russell Elks Lodge.&nbsp; Patty was “a person who never know a stranger” and 
was always willing to help others the best she could.&nbsp; She enjoyed 
fishing, playing bingo and pitch and loved to spoil her grandchildren.

Patty’s surviving family
 include her daughter, Sandy Boos (Tom Batt) of Russell, Kansas; son, 
Chris Bricker (Shani) of Taft, California; brother, Ed Karst (Nancy) of 
Aurora, Colorado; two sisters, Kathy Hashenberger (Dave) of Russell, 
Kansas and Kay Scheck (Butch) of Russell, Kansas; three grandchildren, 
Craig Boos (Victoria) of Wichita, Kansas, Jakob Boos (Elle) of Hays, 
Kansas and Kiera Bricker of Taft, California; and many nieces and 
nephews.

Patty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Steve Karst.

home on February 2, 2020. &nbsp;She was born on January 8, 1926 in Osborne, 
KS to John D. &amp; Alice M. (Smith) O'Connor. &nbsp;She was one of several 
children.

She graduated from Osborne High School in 1943. &nbsp;She married Delmar 
E. Miller of Osborne in Olathe, KS on September 21, 1946. &nbsp;They had one 
son, Charles E. Miller.

Dorothy &amp; Delmar owned 4 bakeries in the Kansas City area.&nbsp;They took early retirement &amp; sold the bakeries.&nbsp;

She enjoyed working in her yard with her hostas.&nbsp; She also collected 
angels. &nbsp;Dorothy was a member of the Blue Ridge Christian Church &amp; 
of Beta Sigma Phi sorority.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Delmar; her parents; 
sister: Lola Mitchell; brother: Paul O'Connor; 2 nephews: John O'Connor

Dorothy Frances Miller

Lonnie D. Inlow, 65, of Oakley, Kansas, passed away at his home on March
 24th, 2020. Lonnie was born on January 2nd 1955 in Dodge City, Kansas. 
Lonnie attended High School in Sublette, Kansas and attended College at 
Garden City Community College where he received his Associates Degree 
and went on to Graduate from Kansas State University with a Bachelor’s 
of Science Degree in Agronomy. Lonnie’s passion was for Agronomy. Lonnie
 was a Manager for several different COOP Organizations and Large Farm 
Operations before retiring in 2016. Lonnie was a loving caring man who 
enjoyed science and sports but his greatest enjoyment was his children 
and grandchildren.    


Lonnie is survived by his wife Mary, of 37 years; sons, Michael and wife
 Jennifer, Christopher, and Daniel and wife Ashley; his loving 
grandchildren, Taryn, Preston, Evan, Natalie, Matthew and Ian.  Lonnie 
is also survived by his mother, Lee Mae; brother Larry; sisters, Carolyn
 and husband Darrell and Kathy and husband Jack. Lonnie was preceded in 
death by his father Vern. Lonnie was a loving husband, father, 
grandfather, brother and friend too many.

 </figure>Lonnie D. Inlow, 65, of Oakley, Kansas, passed away at his home on March
 24th, 2020. Lonnie was born on January 2nd 1955 in Dodge City, Kansas. 
Lonnie attended High School in Sublette, Kansas and attended College at 
Garden City Community College where he received his Associates Degree 
and went on to Graduate from Kansas State University with a Bachelor’s 
of Science Degree in Agronomy. Lonnie’s passion was for Agronomy. Lonnie
 was a Manager for several different COOP Organizations and Large Farm 
Operations before retiring in 2016. Lonnie was a loving caring man who 
enjoyed science and sports but his greatest enjoyment was his children 
and grandchildren. 
Lonnie is survived by his wife Mary, of 37 years; sons, Michael and wife
 Jennifer, Christopher, and Daniel and wife Ashley; his loving 
grandchildren, Taryn, Preston, Evan, Natalie, Matthew and Ian. Lonnie 
is also survived by his mother, Lee Mae; brother Larry; sisters, Carolyn
 and husband Darrell and Kathy and husband Jack. Lonnie was preceded in 
death by his father Vern. Lonnie was a loving husband, father, 
grandfather, brother and friend too many.

Fredrick Adam Ernst, 82, of Russell, Kansas, died on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Fred was born on April 08, 1937, in Otis, Kansas, the son of Joseph and Bertha (Schneider) Ernst. He grew up in Russell, Kansas and attended local schools and served his country joining the United States Army. He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Darlene Marie Karlin on July 14, 1962 in Victoria Kansas. From this union Fred and Darlene were blessed with 3 sons Mark, Michael and Matthew. He provided for his family by working in the oilfield industry. He was a member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church and the American Legion both of Russell, Kansas. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting, and playing cards.

Surviving family include his wife Darlene of Russell; sons Michael Ernst and wife Laurie of Russell, Kansas and Matthew Ernst and wife Sherri of Olathe, Kansas; 4 grandchildren Kelsey, Derek, Tyler and Ashlyn and 2 great grandchildren Kristopher and Ensley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Mark &amp; brother Lionel, and sister Carol June Billinger, and half-brothers and sisters:  Carl, Mark, Vernon, Wallace, Alexander, Roland, Albert, Vienna, and Florence. 

A private family graveside will be held immediately at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Russell with burial to follow. There will be no visitation or greeting with family.  A memorial service may be held at a later date.  Memorials may be given to Russell VFW and sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.

Frances Arnhold was born in Catherine, Kansas on September 29, 1928.  
She passed away peacefully with her son, Fred, at her side at her 
residence at The Commons in Grand Junction, CO. She was 91 years old. 
She married John Arnhold at the Cathedral of the Plains in the small 
German American community of Victoria, Kansas on May 25, 1948 and lived 
to celebrate 68 years of marriage. Together they ventured West to 
Montana, Utah, Wyoming and Oregon to live and grow their family. They 
had five children, Steve (spouse Susie, Paul (spouse Marcia, Fred, 
Lois (spouse Bob) and Tom (spouse Jeff) and eight grandchildren (Andy, 
Aaron, Aimee, Joel, Jordan, Stephanie, Lisa and Patrick) and ten 
great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. As her children 
raised their young families, Frances enjoyed cooking for her family on 
Sunday gatherings.

John and Frances moved to Grand Junction in 
1965 where they lived the rest of their lives. They were members of the 
Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, where Frances was a Catholic 
Daughter. Frances enjoyed her volunteer service at the Church, cooking 
with her friends for various church events. She worked for many years at
 Central High School as a cook and cashier.  Frances was kind and 
generous and shared her wonderful sense of humor with everyone.  Frances
 was a wonderful wife and devoted mother, and she made all of our lives 
more meaningful. She will be dearly missed.  

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, we regret that a 
visitation and a funeral mass are not able to be held to protect the 
public health. In lieu of flowers and your attendance, the family asks 
that the “Offering of a Mass for Frances” be requested at the Immaculate
 Heart of Mary Church in Grand Junction and at the Basilica of St. 
Fidelis Catholic Church, Cathedral of the Plains in Victoria, Kansas.  
Frances will be interred next to her husband John in the Immaculate 
Heart of Mary Columbarian.

Frances Arnhold

Ralph Laverne Oswald, 95, of Luray, Kansas, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2020 at the Health Care Resort in Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; 

Ralph was born September
 19, 1924 in Luray, Kansas and was the son of John F. “Frank” and Luella
 Tressie (Markley) Oswald&nbsp;&nbsp; He grew up in Luray and graduated from Luray
 High School in 1942.

Ralph was united in 
marriage to Myrtle “Myrt” Marie Cline of Bunker Hill on February 16, 
1947 in Salina, Kansas.&nbsp; The union was blessed with four children; John,
 Cheryl, Roger and Janis.&nbsp; They made their home in Luray until moving to
 Russell in 2016 due to declining health.&nbsp; 

In August 1943 Ralph 
enlisted in the United States Marine Corps undergoing basic training in 
San Diego then was stationed at MCAS Mojave.&nbsp; In September 1944 he 
arrived in Pearl Harbor and was stationed with the VMF-213 squadron at 
the Marine Corps Air Station Ewa on Oahu, Hawaii which served as the hub
 for all Marine aviation units heading into combat in the Pacific 
Theater.&nbsp; He received the Asiatic-Pacific medal, American Area medal and
 the World War II Victory medal.&nbsp; In February 1951 he re-enlisted during
 the Korean Conflict and was stationed at El Toro MCAS in Santa Ana, 
California.&nbsp; He was discharged in February 1952 as a staff sergeant.

Ralph was a devoted 
husband and provided for their family initially working for Merl Markley
 Motors of Luray and in 1958 was appointed Postmaster of the Luray Post 
Office until his retirement in 1989.

He was a member of the 
Luray United Methodist Church and enjoyed square dancing, gardening and 
stamp collecting. He was a charter member of the Luray Lions Club, a 
member of the Luray Legion and a lifetime member of the Russell VFW.&nbsp; 
For more than 28 years Ralph and Myrtle enjoyed RV living as “snowbirds”
 in Texas and Yuma, Arizona.&nbsp; 

Ralph’s surviving family
 are daughters Cheryl Gibson of Pittsburg, Kansas and Janis Kelley of 
Frontenac, Kansas; sons, John Oswald (Judith) and Roger Oswald (Sue) all
 of Wichita, Kansas; eight grandchildren, Nathan Moore (Anita, Jordan 
Moore (Gary, Joshua Barr (Kristin, Jared Barr (Natalie, Jordan Barr 
(Elba, Morgan Douglas (Allan, Alicia Simon (Michael) and Grant Kelley;
 and 11 great grandchildren.

Ralph was preceded in death by his wife Myrtle, parents, brother William Oswald of California and son-in-law Neil Gibson.

A private family

Betty Joan Poppelreiter, 79, died March 18, 2020, at Tiffany Springs 
Senior Living and Rehabilitation Center, Kansas City, Missouri. She was 
born November 21, 1940, in Claflin, Kansas, the daughter of William and 
Elizabeth (Muller) Randeberg. Betty graduated from Claflin High School 
in 1958.

On May 1, 1965, she married Robert A. Poppelreiter at the Holy Name 
Catholic Church in Bushton, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 
10, 2017.

A lifelong resident of Claflin, Betty worked for the Farmers and 
Merchants Bank of Claflin from 1958 to 1974. It was then that she 
decided to stay home and raise her family. In the 1990’s she returned to
 work at the Petroleum Club in Great Bend. After that she worked part 
time at Keating’s Grocery Store in Claflin for a few years.

Betty was a member of the United Methodist Women of Claflin. She 
enjoyed shopping, visiting with friends, collecting recipes and spending
 time with her grandkids.

She is survived by her daughters, Amie Attebery and husband Eric of 
Kansas City, Missouri; Julie Pletcher and husband Dan of Lawrence and 
Portis, Kansas; grandchildren, Ocean, Callie, Macy, and Ava Attebery of 
Kansas City, Missouri, and Jade and Dane Colclasure of Lawrence.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; sisters, Viola Talbot and Violet Krebbs; and a brother, Kenneth Radenberg.

Betty’s wishes were to not have a funeral just a visitation. Given 
the current Covid-19 social precautions we have decided to postpone a 
visitation at this time. Interment will take place at a later date in 
the Claflin Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Golden Belt Humane Society, as she had a
 great love of animals, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, PO Box

Bend. She was born on December 27, 2000, to Ernest &amp; Heather 
(Harris) Vanaman.

Survivors include, her mother, Heather Vanaman; two brothers, Ryan 
Wayne Vanaman of Lamont, Okla., and Mark Edwin Gray of Great Bend; her 
grandmother, Deborah Harris; her grandfather, David McMullen; and a 
great great great aunt, Eloise Dolezal of Great Bend. She was preceded 
in death by her father.

Josephine P. (Carlock) Lorance, daughter of James and Daisy Carlock, was born October 4th, 1926 in Eckley, CO and passed away Saturday, March 21st, 2020 in Norton, KS at the age of 93.

She grew to womanhood in and around Wray, CO and Haigler,
 NE and attended country school in Haigler, graduating from the 8th grade in 1941.&nbsp; She met Alfred L. Lorance and at a young age they married on February 7th,
 1942 at Golden, CO.&nbsp; They lived in Denver, CO and in 1945 they moved to
 Wray, CO.&nbsp; Then in 1948 the couple moved to Norton, KS where Al started
 his own business, the Country Cobbler, and Jo went to work for 
Duckwalls until she retired in 1987.&nbsp; Al and Jo were married 54 years 
when Al passed away in 1996.

&nbsp;Jo enjoyed being home working in her flower garden and 
helping Al tend to his gardening.&nbsp; They both enjoyed traveling and 
meeting with their friends.&nbsp; She was a faithful member of the Community 
Full Gospel Church in Norton, serving as Sunday School Teacher and 
Church Secretary.

Survivors include a daughter Reges Caren and husband 
James L. Ohlsen of Norton, KS; son Barry of Lubbock, TX; 8 
grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and 2 gret 
great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, 3 
sisters, husband Al, son Gary L., grandchild Ben, 2 daughter’s-in-law 
and other relatives and friends.

Private family inurnment will take place at a later date in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Almena, KS.

Full Gospel Church in Norton, serving as Sunday School Teacher and 
Church Secretary.Survivors include a daughter Reges Caren and husband 
James L. Ohlsen of Norton, KS; son Barry of Lubbock, TX; 8 
grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and 2 gret

Norton resident Robert Eugene Underwood passed away, Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at the Logan Manor Nursing Home in Logan at the age of 73.

He was born Feb. 18, 1947, in Norton, the son of James Loyal and Jacqueline (Valle) Underwood.&nbsp;

Robert was united in marriage to Virginia Lee Rice on June 14, 1969, in Almena.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gloria Jones; brother, Pat; son, James; and grandson, Brandon Sumner.

Robert is survived by his wife, Virginia of Norton; daughters Deanna Sumner of Norcatur and Denise Roberson of Hoxie; son Dan of Joes, CO; 8 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and a brother William of Norton.

Michael Ray Coffey Jr., 48, passed away Monday, March 16,&nbsp;2020 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Kearney, NE.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Michael was born September 25, 1971, in Takoma Park, Maryland, the son of Michael Ray Coffey Sr. and Mona Kay (Antrim) Coffey. Michael grew up in Norton, KS, attended the Norton Schools, graduating with the class of 1991.&nbsp;

On August 10, 1996, Michael and Amy (Nelson) Coffey were united in marriage in Norton, KS. To this union they were blessed with two children, Kayla and Zach. Michael enjoyed working for the City of Norton,&nbsp;Parks &amp; Cemetery Department, but more than the work itself he loved the camaraderie he had with his co-workers.

Michael was a member of the Norton Christian Church and the Norton Eagles Lodge.&nbsp;He loved all kinds of sports throughout his life, from playing baseball and football in High School, to coaching little kids baseball later in life. Michael enjoyed fishing, camping, working in his garden, outdoor activities with his family and friends&nbsp;and playing with his dogs. However, anyone that knew Michael knew that his favorite hobby was loving life, laughing and teasing his family, especially his wife Amy. He loved children and they were drawn to him wherever he went. His greatest joy was spending as much time as possible with his family and friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Michael is survived by the love of his life, his wife Amy Coffey of the home in Norton, a daughter Kayla (Jake) Branch of Zurich, KS, a son Zach Coffey of the home in Norton, parents Mike and Mona Coffey of Norton, a sister Michelle Garwood of&nbsp;Norton,&nbsp;father &amp; mother-in-law Bill and Doris Nelson of Norton, brother-in-law Blain Nelson of Norton, sister-in-law Missy (Brian) McMullen of Norton. Special Uncles J.W. Antrim of Hays, KS, Jim Antrim of Norton,&nbsp;cousin&nbsp;Tim Boteler of Arvada, CO, and special friend, the last of the 3 amigos, Tobi&nbsp;Boller&nbsp;of Norton.&nbsp;Many nieces, nephews and friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was&nbsp;proceeded&nbsp;in death by his maternal grandparents, Bill and Virginia Antrim, paternal grandparents Wade and Evelyn Coffey, three aunts,&nbsp;Lita&nbsp;Arehart, Fran&nbsp;Loveccio, and Gloria Coffey, two uncles, Robert and Dean Coffey, one brother-in-law Blake Nelson, and one special friend, Jimmy Underwood.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A celebration of Michael’s life will be held at 10:30 am. Saturday March 28, 2020 at Norton Christian Church, 208 N Kansas Ave, Norton, KS, with Pastor Nate Hagan officiating. Longtime Sharon Springs, KS resident Eldon Lee Rohn, 83, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2020.

Eldon was born on December 8, 1936, in WaKeeney, KS to Ferdinand and Lydia (Dietz) Rohn.&nbsp; He was one of two children.&nbsp; He attended school in Wakeeney and graduated from Sharon Springs High School in 1955.

On June 13, 1955, Eldon married Eleanor Fawn Gfeller in Sharon Springs.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two sons, Rodney and Bryan. &nbsp;

Eldon joined the United States National Guard in 1955 and was a longtime Reserve member, which enabled him to serve his country, as well as farm the land he loved so much. As a farmer, Eldon took great pride in working his land.&nbsp; In fact, he was a top producer and had beennationally recognized by the National Grain Sorghum Producers on multiple occasions.&nbsp; He loved his family dearly and enjoyed attending sprint car races and riding motorcycles.&nbsp; Eldon was also a collector of many things and liked working with his hands. &nbsp;

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, both of his sons, and his brother,William R. Rohn.

Surviving family includes his daughters-in-law Kelley Rohn of Dodge City, KS and Nancy Rohn of Topeka, KS; four grandchildren, Cameron Rohn of Austin, TX, Derek Rohn of Kansas City, MO, Hollie Rohn Spencer (Jason) of Topeka, KS and Trever Rohn (Tara) of Hays, KS.&nbsp; He is also survived by two nephews,Mark (Barb) Rohn of Colorado Springs, CO and Blaine (Tamara) Rohn of Hutchinson, KS. &nbsp;

At this time there will be no services held for Eldon. &nbsp;

Sandra Kaye Cook, 69, formerly of Charleston, Arkansas, went to be 
with the Angels March 22, 2020 at Leisure Homestead in St. John, KS.

She was born April 9, 1950 in Oxnard, CA, the daughter of Jimmy Cecil
 and Frances Louise Yarnell Colburn.&nbsp; She moved from Arkansas to Larned 
in 2018.

She was a devoted Christian and loved the Lord, read her Bible every 
morning and relied on her faith to always get her through the tough 
times; she loved cooking, baking, doing stained glass, playing games, 
going to garage sales and was always a champagne fashionista with a beer
 budget.&nbsp; She was known as Nanny by her grandchildren and loved spending
 time with them.&nbsp; It’s our last pucky pucky Nanny! We Love You!

She was united in marriage to Jimmy Lee Cook September 13, 1968 in Oxnard, California. He passed away December 21, 2007.

Survivors include: two daughters, Lee Andra “L.A.” (Kevin) Cook 
Martin, Forks, WA, Candice “C.C.” (Garrick) Cook Dunn, Charleston, AR; 
son, Christopher Cook, Edmond, OK; two sisters, her twin, Candice
