Francis Floriene Whisnant, 97, of Colby, passed away on March 5, 2020. 


Floriene was born on August 11, 1922, in Wellsville, Kansas, to Frank O. 
Raley Sr. and Mary Jane (Baldwin) Raley. While living in Hamilton 
County, Kansas, she witnessed the dirty-thirties and had dust pneumonia 
for two successive years. The doctor told her parents her heart would 
not stand another winter of dust – she proved him wrong. The family 
moved back to eastern Kansas to the Bush City area and she completed 
high school in Kincaid, KS. In the fall of 1940, Floriene entered nurses
 training in Chanute and graduated in 1942. While in nurses training, 
she met a student pilot, Harley W. Whisnant and they were married on 
November 25, 1942. To this union four children were born, Gary, Anita, 
Marlene and Pamela. Harley and Floriene made their home in Goodland and 
while there, her nursing skills were utilized by working at Boothroy 
Hospital, the Good Samaritan Center, nurse for Dr. William Madden’s 
practice and part-time for Dr. W.A. Smiley. She was also a Public Health
 Nurse and Migrant Health Nurse for the State of Kansas. She was a part 
of the pilot project for the WIC food program. Sometime in the 80’s, she
 decided she would retire but then returned doing chart work for 
Connie’s Home Health Agency. In 1992, she was named as a Red Cross 
nurse. Floriene was active in the Methodist Church, teaching Sunday 
school, was a Den Mother and later in life volunteered for the Heartland
 Share Food Program. She also was a Life Member of the VFW Ladies 
Auxiliary, giving many years of service to this organization, receiving 
her 65 year pin in 2019. Harley and Floriene were married 56 years 
before his death in 1999, and in 2004 Floriene moved to Colby to be 
closer to family. She loved caring for grandchildren and great 
grandchildren and attending their events.


Floriene is survived by her children, Gary (Rosa, Brewster, KS, Anita 
(Dan) Washburn, Ponder, TX, Marlene (Mike) Potter, Guymon, OK and Pam 
(Dewey) Augustine, Coby, KS; grandchildren, Jon Whisnant, Matt, Aaron 
and Adrian Washburn, Jeff, Kenneth and Kevin Potter, Dana Bolyard and 
Matt Augustine; step-grandchildren, Jesse Barrera, Israel Hernandez, 
Reina Barrera and Jacob Falcon; 18 great grandchildren and 14 step-great
 grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Alfred, George, Frank Raley, Jr and sister Dardanella McMichael.


Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at Baalmann Mortuary, 
Colby, with services at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2020, also at 
the Mortuary. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. CDT at the Goodland 
Cemetery, Goodland, KS. Memorials are suggested to Genesis of Thomas

Francis Floriene Whisnant

Mary Ann (Schuckman) Herl, age 89, died Friday, March 6, 2020, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

She was born January 17, 1931, on the farm near Liebenthal, Kansas, to Fred and Anna Loretta (Legleiter) Schuckman.&nbsp; She married Edwin J. Herl on April 26, 1950 at&nbsp; &nbsp; Liebenthal, Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on&nbsp; December 10, 1985.

She worker at Skaggs Drug Store, and at St. Anthony Hospital and Hays Medical Center in the dietary department for many years. She attended school in Rush and Ellis counties and was a 1948 graduate from Schoenchen High School.&nbsp; She helped her husband with their farming and ranching operations, and tending her vegetables, flowering gardening and her fruit trees.&nbsp;

Mary Ann enjoyed playing piano, guitar, harmonica, singing, cooking, baking, quilting, and sewing for her family and grandchildren.&nbsp; She was an avid reader, working crossword puzzles, writing poetry and short stories, creating artistic items for craft fairs, and had endless energy and would sometimes stay up all night to keep abreast of the&nbsp; current events.&nbsp;

Mary Ann was a member of the Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria, Kansas.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen Ann Bland and husband, Boyd, Gove, KS., and Sharon Kay Jantz, Denver, CO; three sons, Daniel Herl and wife, Pat, Victoria, KS; Neal Herl and special friend, Elaine Chavez, Wichita, KS; W. David Herl, Hays, KS; one brother, Robert Schuckman and wife, Isabelle, Aurora, CO;&nbsp; two sisters, Lucy Unrein and husband, Julius, Hays, KS; Edna Miles, Winter Haven, Fl; 12 grandchildren: Jennifer (Jon) Novak, Jessica (Dennis) Ferguson, Jamie (Misty) Bland, Toby Jantz, Vanessa Jantz, Corey Jantz, Clinton (Ashley) Herl, Danielle (Dale) Windholz, Sheena (Austin) Gagnon, Ashley Lauck, Garrett Herl, Kayleigh Herl; and 21 great grandchildren.

Delila “Dee” Faye (Beougher) Powers, age 77, of rural Gove, KS, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2020, at Gove County Medical Center, Quinter. 

She was born on February 15, 1943 to C. DeWitt and E. Faye (Gibson) Beougher at the Highpoint Community in rural Logan County, KS. Dee was raised in the Orion community, and would ride her horse Betsy to the Orion and Union grade schools. She later graduated from Gove High School, where she met her future husband, Roger Powers.

Dee and Roger were united in marriage on June 5, 1960 at Oakley Methodist Church, and to this union two girls were born, Holly and Shelly. Throughout her life, she was an integral part of the Powers farm and ranch, as well as working in the district court clerk's office, at the sheriff’s office, and the county clerk's office. Dee was a devout member and a major presence in the Gove Community Bible Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years.&nbsp; She was also very active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship, was the Christian Education Chair, and Success Coffee Fellowship leader. She served on the Gove City library board, the GCIA board, was a former member of the GCMC auxiliary, and was a member of the Pleasant Hour club.&nbsp; Dee enjoyed reading, embroidery and crocheting, as well as word searches and crossword puzzles.

Dee is survived by her husband Roger; daughters Holly Moore (Roger) of Berryton, KS, and Shelly Holaday of Grinnell, KS; grandchildren Jordan Moore of Lawrence, KS, Kaleb Holaday of Gove, and Nicole Holaday of Grinnell; and brother Alan Beougher of Oakley, KS. She was preceded in death by both parents.

Visitation will be Monday, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, at Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at Gove Community Bible Church in Gove with pastor Chris Thomas officiating. Burial will be at Gove Cemetery.

Delila 'Dee' Faye (Beougher) Powers

Brennan H. Beedy, age 42, was called away to his heavenly home on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, in Wichita, Kansas. 

 Brennan was born June 8, 1977, in Tribune, Kansas, the son of Hugh &amp; Elaine (Millirons) Beedy.  Brennan attended elementary school at the Christian Academy in Leoti, Kansas and then transferred to High Plains Elementary to finish grade school.  From there, his Jr. High and High School years were spent as a Wichita County Indian, graduating in 1996.  

Brennan started working for the Tankersley family at age 16, earning his CDL at 18 and began hauling cattle.  He also worked for the Wells family until he was unable to work due to illness in 2011.  Brennan enjoyed playing guitar and offering his comedy by telling quick jokes.  No one could deny his big-hearted friendship and big quirky smile.  In 2011, he moved to Goddard, Kansas and then to Halstead, Kansas to be close to his parents. 

 Brennan had several hobbies, loved all things music, playing piano and his guitar, looking through truck magazines for the latest and greatest.  Hanging out with his family was, by far, his favorite.  He was known to keep up on his new jokes and was always in the mood to tell one if you needed it.  His health had been a challenge for the past nine years, but it didn’t keep him from visiting his family in Hawaii.  His life’s ultimate goal was to make at least one person smile daily.  He never met a stranger and always made room in his life for everyone. 

Brennan is survived by his parents- Hugh &amp; Elaine Beedy of Halstead, Kansas. Two sisters- Amy &amp; Jake Kessler of Leoti, Kansas and FayeLynn &amp; Tim Ferran of Hutchinson, Kansas and many aunts, uncles, nephews, and nieces as well as lifelong friends.  

He is preceded in death by his grandparents- Lawrence &amp; Ethel Millirons and H.S. &amp; LaVaughn Beedy.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am (MST) Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at the Assembly of God Church in Tribune, Kansas with Pastor Rick Crossette officiating.  Burial will be in Greeley County Cemetery in Tribune, Kansas.

Friends may call from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm Monday at Price &amp; Sons Funeral home in Tribune, Kansas.

Neil J. Bland, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on July 8, 1934 in Plainville, Kansas, the son of Harley Cecil &amp; Lilly A. Smith.&nbsp; A resident of Scott City, Kansas since 1971 moving from Colby, Kansas, he was a technician for KN Energy from 1966 until he retired in 1995.

He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City, Kansas.

On July 15, 1963 he married Thelma R. Meis in Plainville, Kansas.&nbsp; She passed away on June 24, 2014 in Colby, Kansas.

Survivors include his Four Sons - Byron Bland of Hays, Kansas, Warren Bland of Scott City, Kansas, Randall &amp; Melissa Bland of Garden City, Kansas, and Ryan &amp; Amanda Bland of Trenton, Nebraska, One Sister - Irma Ewing of Longmont, Colorado, and Five Grandchildren.

Neil was preceded in death by his Parents, Wife - Thelma, and One Sister - Eunice Baham.

Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 9, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City, Kansas with Fr. Rudin Din presiding.&nbsp;

Interment will be in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp;

Memorials In Lieu of Flowers can be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church in care of Price and Sons Funeral Home.

Richard C. Flax, age 79, of Ellis, 
Kansas passed away Friday, March 6, 2020 at the Trego Lemke Long Term 
Care Center in WaKeeney, Kansas. He was born December 20, 1940 in Hays, 
Kansas to Carl and Bertha (Honas) Flax. On October 9, 1965 he married 
Charlene (Klaus) at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays, Kansas.

Richard was a farmer and stockman as 
well as a water hauler in the oil fields and a dump truck driver hauling
 millings for highway construction. He was a US Army Veteran and a 
member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis. He enjoyed playing cards 
and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Charlene of
 Ellis; three sons, Mark Flax and wife Jackie of Ellis, Gary Flax and 
wife Tricia of Russell and Arlen Flax and wife Rose of Ellis and three 
grandchildren, Jarod Flax of Goodland, Braden Flax of Russell and Emma 
Flax of Ellis.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Norma Jean Flax.

Funeral services will be 10 AM on 
Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis. Burial 
will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation will be Monday 6 PM – 8 PM and Tuesday 9 AM until service time all at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

James “Jim” D. Steiner, 70, passed away March 3, 2020, at Great Bend 
Health &amp; Rehab, Great Bend. He was born on March 18, 1949, at 
Ellsworth, to Clayton C. &amp; Barbara J. (Foote) Steiner. He lived the 
first five years of his life in Black Wolf, Kan.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, James was a salesman. He was a member
 of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend 
and enjoyed attending Sunday mass at the Dominican convent. He was a 
member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Post 180.

As a student at St. Patrick’s grade school, he was an altar boy and 
was proud to have served at the ground breaking of St. Patrick’s church,
 along with his brother Dan. He graduated with the Great Bend High 
School Class of 1967. He attended Fort Hays State University and later 
received his Associate’s degree from Barton County Community College. He
 served two terms in the Kansas National Guard, 161st Field Artillery.

Whether hunting a field in Barton County, fishing on a sand bar on 
the Smokey Hill River, or hunting the pools of Cheyenne Bottoms, fishing
 the rocky banks of Lake Wilson, walking the historic beaches of 
Normandy, France, or sipping a Guiness in a pub in Dublin, Jim truly 
enjoyed a great adventure. But Jim was happiest sitting in a lawn chair 
in the driveway with a cooler of Coors or PBR’s lighting fireworks on 
the 4th of July and hanging around the old family haunts of 
Black Wolf, Kansas. He loved to have fun! Fast cars, Kansas State and 
Notre Dame sports, searching for war history on the computer, learning 
about local Kansas history, playing poker, smoking Swisher Sweets, 
camping, hunting and fishing. He was the Scout Master of Troop 157 and 
enjoyed going to Camp Kanza. He loved right wing conservatism and was 
just a big kid at heart.

Survivors include, his mother, Barbara Steiner; a brother, Dan 
Steiner and wife Cathy of Stilwell; two sisters, Susan Steiner of Great 
Bend, and Laurie Cooke and husband Stacey of Junction City; many aunts 
and uncles; four nieces and their families, Tara Terella (Adam) of 
Aurora, Colo., Bethany Cooke (Adam) of Junction City, Katie Kidwell 
(fiancé Justin Lytle) of Junction City, and Briana Talley (Ken) of 
Wichita; two nephews, Ryan Steiner of Overland Park, and Clint Steiner 
(Christi) of Overland Park; his great nieces and nephews, Carson, 
Addison, Grace, Colin, Cooper, Ava, Alyssa, Jack, Jameson, Callen, Cara,
 Lacey, Miles, Aaron, Tatum, Kenny, and baby boy due in June. He was

James 'Jim' D. Steiner

Vivian Mary Dobey, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 2, 2020 in Columbia, Missouri. She died peacefully that evening with her husband of 65 years, Ronald Dobey, by her side after a long illness. 

Vivian was born on January 17, 1930 in Bridgeport, Connecticut to the late William Matthew Kane and Mary (Fekete) Kane. 

She is survived by her husband, Ronald John Dobey of Columbia, Missouri, sons Ronald John Dobey, Jr. of Rocheport, Missouri, John Darrell Dobey of Centennial, Colorado and Douglas William Dobey of Richmond, Virginia, daughters-in-law Tarilyn Sue (Starzinger) Dobey of Rocheport, Missouri, Marie Catherine (Cowhick) Dobey of Centennial, Colorado and Liza Corbett of Richmond, Virginia, granddaughters Allison Mary (Roberts) Burrier of Evergreen, Colorado, Erin Claire Dobey of Denver, Colorado and Harper Lee Dobey of Richmond, Virginia, grandsons John Starzinger Dobey and Colin William Dobey of Rocheport, Missouri and brother-in-law Russell Louis Dobey of Wilton, Connecticut. Vivian is also survived by several nieces and nephews including William Matthew Kane III of Grand Junction, Colorado, Breta Claire Kane of Estes Park, Colorado, Mary Kathleen (Kane) Pickering of BelAir, Maryland, Susan Eileen Kane of Centreville, Maryland, John Ernest Kane of Denver, Colorado, Pamela Maren (Dobey) Peters of Pomfret, Connecticut, Laura Kimbel (Dobey) Amicucci of Fairfield, Connecticut and Lisa Marie Dobey of Fairfield, Connecticut and great-granddaughters Margaret Frances and Penelope June Burrier of Evergreen, Colorado. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Helen Dobey of Bridgeport, Connecticut, older brother, William Matthew Kane, Jr. and sister-in-law, Shirley (Steves) Kane of Hays, Kansas sister-in-law Marie Emily (Gobeil) Dobey of Rowayton, Connecticut and by her nephew, Daniel James Kane of Clay Center, Kansas. 

Vivian became a registered nurse after graduating high school from Lauralton Hall in Milford, Connecticut and St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Hartford, Connecticut. She held various positions in her life-long profession in Bridgeport, Connecticut until she married Ron. In 1972, Vivian returned to geriatric nursing in Fairfax, Virginia when Ron, Jr. began college and worked as a nurse until her retirement. Vivian met her future husband while working in Bridgeport and they were married on April 24, 1954 at St. John’s Episcopal Church. 

She became active in the altar guild, as an acolyte mother and parish visitor at their church in Virginia which became their home in 1964 and her family’s life was centered by their faith for the remainder of her life. Vivian, having been born to wonderful parents, building a strong, loving marriage, with all the extended families that became part of hers and the friends she made throughout her life, knew how blessed she was and came to realize that the many blessings in her life stemmed from the knowledge that Jesus had died for her sins and earned her a place in heaven. 

Vivian loved her career in nursing and will always be remembered both in her career and her personal life as a very giving person, continually putting the needs of others before her own, making newcomers feel welcome and living a life of service to her family, her friends and her God. During her life, she was an active volunteer both in and outside of the church, serving as a den mother when her sons were in Cub Scouts and supporting their advancement through Boy Scouts, volunteering at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg and at both Truro Episcopal Church and Trinity Episcopal Church, the family’s parish homes in Virginia. She was loved and admired by all whose lives she touched and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. 

A celebration of Vivian’s life will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 3pm at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia. Visitation by family and friends will be between 1pm and 3pm immediately preceding the service. 

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, friends consider making a memorial contribution in Vivian’s name to Calvary Episcopal Church (123 South Ninth St. Columbia, Missouri 65201) or Trinity Episcopal Church (825 College Ave. Fredericksburg, Virginia 22401). Michelle Lee Elliott, 46 passed away Saturday, February 29, 2020, at 
Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation. She was born February 4, 1974 in 
Lyons, Kansas and was the daughter of James and Kathy Elliott.

Michelle grew up in Chase, Lyons and Great Bend, but was a long time 
resident of Goodland at the time of her passing. She cherished any time 
that she got to spend with her family and loved her Goodland family that
 provided her care for many years. Michelle absolutely loved any kind of
 food, especially barbecue, and loved fireworks, so the 4th of July was 
her favorite holiday. For those who really knew her, you would see that 
she had a child like heart and truly knew how to enjoy the little things
 in life that can so often be overlooked. The room was always so much 
more colorful as a result of her presence and will be greatly missed by 
all who were blessed to have known her.

She is&nbsp;survived&nbsp;by her father James Earl Elliott&nbsp;and&nbsp;mother 
Kathy&nbsp;Elliott; five brothers Jim (Alica) Elliott of Topeka, Jeremy (Kim)

James J. “Jim” Thyfault, 86, Hays, died Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Via Christi Village.

He was born September 16, 1933 in 
Damar, Kansas the son of George and Irene (Thyfault) Thyfault.&nbsp; In 1951 
he graduated from Damar High School.&nbsp; He served in the United States 
Army during the Korean War.&nbsp; On June 1, 1957 he was united in marriage 
to Marilyn M. Shook in Damar, and they celebrated 59 years of marriage 
before she preceded him in death on September 21, 2016. He was an 
alfalfa farmer north of Damar, and his memberships included the Third 
Degree Knights of Columbus Council #6984, Fourth Degree Knights of 
Columbus Bishop Cunningham Assembly, where he served as faithful 
navigator, the Hays American Legion Post #173, Rooks County Fair Board, 
and District Deputy for Lions Club International.&nbsp; He enjoyed all sports
 and was a loyal supporter of the Hays Larks and Fort Hays State 
University sports, especially softball and baseball.&nbsp; His hobbies 
included going to car races, playing cards, flower gardening, and 
woodworking.&nbsp; He took pride in making grandfather clocks for each of his

Damar, Kansas the son of George and Irene (Thyfault) Thyfault.&nbsp; In 1951 
he graduated from Damar High School.&nbsp; He served in the United States 
Army during the Korean War.&nbsp; On June 1, 1957 he was united in marriage 
to Marilyn M. Shook in Damar, and they celebrated 59 years of marriage 
before she preceded him in death on September 21, 2016. He was an 
alfalfa farmer north of Damar, and his memberships included the Third 
Degree Knights of Columbus Council #6984, Fourth Degree Knights of 
Columbus Bishop Cunningham Assembly, where he served as faithful 
navigator, the Hays American Legion Post #173, Rooks County Fair Board, 
and District Deputy for Lions Club International.&nbsp; He enjoyed all sports
 and was a loyal supporter of the Hays Larks and Fort Hays State 
University sports, especially softball and baseball.&nbsp; His hobbies 
included going to car races, playing cards, flower gardening, and 
woodworking.&nbsp; He took pride in making grandfather clocks for each of his

James J. 'Jim' Thyfault

Paul Dean Mews, 41, of Atwood, Kan., died March 3, 2020. 


He was born Sept. 10, 1978 in Canton, S.D. to Al and Lin Lanham Mews.


Paul grew up in Inwood, Iowa and graduated from West Lyons High School 
in 1997. During these years he developed his passion for football, 
basketball and swimming.


He graduated from Hastings College with a major in computer science and 
was employed in management with Walgreens in several Nebraska cities.


Paul married Jessica Reinert April 12, 2008 in Omaha, Neb. The couple are the parents of Caleb, David and Drew.


The family made their home in Atwood where Paul proudly wore his Iowa 
Hawkeye gear, especially when he coached little boys or went fishing 
with his buddy, Vernon.


Paul was preceded in death by his grandparents, Albert and Ruth Mews and Don and Louise Lanham and an uncle, Steve Lanham.


He is survived by his wife, Jessica; sons, Caleb, David and Drew; father
 and mother-in-law, Doug and Marla Reinert; sisters-in-law, Sarah and 
husband, Judd Haahr and Anna and husband, Danny Duhacek; brother-in-law,
 Jacob and wife, Loree Reinert; parents, Al and Lin Mews of Inwood, 
Iowa; siblings, Liz and husband, Kevin Lemcke, of Rapid City, S.D.,

Bonnie (Garten) Shaffer, 81, passed away March 4, 2020, at Hays 
Medical Center, Hays. She was born on December 7, 1938, at Sun City, 
Kan. to Guy &amp; Marian (Trotter) Garten. She married Jack Shaffer in 
1966. He passed away in 2005.

Coming from Meade 6 years ago, Bonnie was a Great Bend resident and a
 graphic designer. She was a member of Heritage Baptist Church. She 
enjoyed painting and playing the organ. Bonnie especially enjoyed 
spending time with her family.

Survivors include, a son, David E. Smith of Great Bend; a brother, 
Bob Garten of Wichita; and a sister, Vera Wood of Citrus Heights, Calif.
 She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack Shaffer; a 
granddaughter, Patricia Kathleen Smith; and three brothers, James 
Garten, Glenn Garten, and Dale Garten.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial

Irvin J. Pfannenstiel, 86, died Monday, March 2, 2020 at Brookdale Senior Living in Dodge City.

He was born March 14, 1933 at Munjor, Kansas, the son of Casper and 
Georgine (Dreiling) Pfannenstiel.&nbsp; He was a graduate of St. Joseph 
Military Academy in Hays and received his Bachelors in Business from Ft.
 Hays State University.&nbsp; He served in the United States Army during the 
Korean War.

On May 29, 1956 he married Corrine Tully at St. John the Baptist 
Church in Spearville.&nbsp; They moved to Dodge City in 1962 and he was an 
accountant and corporate secretary for the Cimarron Insurance Company in
 Cimarron for 35 years until retiring in 1995.

He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe and a Third
 Degree member of Knight of Columbus Council 2955 both in Dodge City.

Survivors include: his wife of 63 years, Corrine, Dodge City; his 
daughter, Jeralyn Pfannenstiel, Oxnard, California; 3 sons, Jim 
Pfannenstiel and wife Tracy, Dodge City, Jack Pfannenstiel and wife 
Jane, Olathe and Dan Pfannenstiel and Denise Parker, Dodge City; 2 
brothers, Marvin Pfannenstiel and Melvin Pfannenstiel and wife Cora Lee 
all of Hays; a sister, Donna Harkness and husband Rich, Hays; 3 
grandchildren, Jerell Pfannenstiel and Erin Ferry, Jacob Pfannenstiel

Kim L. Gillespie, age 68, of Roscoe, TX, passed away on March 3, 2020 at Hendrick Hospice Care in Abilene, TX.

Kim, the eldest of William and Beulah Gillespie, was born on July 16,
 1951, in Oakley, KS. He shared his birth date with his father and his 
maternal grandfather, Joe Maddox.

Kim attended school in Grainfield, KS, and graduated in 1969 from 
Wheatland High School, the first class to graduate from the newly built,
 consolidated school. Kim graduated from Electronics Institute in Kansas
 City, MO in 1971.

Kim married the former, Gloria Herdt on September 5, 1971. They lived
 in the Kansas City area for 20 years. Two sons, Kevin and Corey, were 
born to this union.

Kim worked for Lone Star Industries for 35 years. He began working at
 the Bonner Springs, KS plant as an electrician. Through the years, as 
his interest in computers grew, he was promoted to Computer Control 
Manager and the company moved him and his family to Oklahoma, and then 
to Texas to automate the plants in Pryor and Maryneal. He retired in 
2011.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Gloria Gillespie of Roscoe, 
TX; sons Kevin and Melissa Gillespie of Roscoe, TX and Corey and Alicia 
Gillespie of Odessa, TX; his three grandsons, Parker and Maxx Gillespie 
of Roscoe, TX and Canaan Gillespie of Odessa, TX; His mother Beulah 
Gillespie of Quinter, KS; his brother Mark Gillespie of Maynardville, 
TN; and his sister-in-law Anita Swenson of Oakley, KS.

Kim was preceded in death by his father William Gillespie; his

Roy Wayne Spence, 75, of Goodland passed away Monday, March 2, 2020 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Lakewood, Colorado.


Wayne was born January 5, 1945 to Walter and Myrtle (Turner) Spence in 
Fort Smith, Arkansas.&nbsp; Wayne grew up in Arkansas until they moved to 
Sharon Springs where he finished high school.&nbsp; On January 29, 1962, he 
married Darla Dreiling in Colorado Springs, Colorado.


Wayne worked as a mechanic for many years and owned the Mobile Station 
in Goodland.&nbsp; He proudly served as a Reserve Goodland Police Officer and
 on the Reserve Fire Department.&nbsp; Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing, taking
 the motorhome camping every weekend possible, and he dearly loved 
spending time with his family and friends.


Preceding him in death are his grandparents and parents; infant son, 
Paul Wayne; brothers, Ray and Gene Spence; sister, Ruby Parks and 
granddaughter, Nicole Clark.


He is survived by his wife, Darla; daughters, LeAnn Gordon, Hoisington, 
KS; Lisa Spence, Wamego, KS; Lori (Mike) Clark, Hays, KS; Angela Spence,

Anna Cecelia Stegeman Fyfe, 82, of Colby, passed away on Tuesday, March 
3, 2020 at the Logan County Hospital, in Oakley. She was living at the 
Logan County Manor for the past six years. She was born August 26, 1937,
 in Selden, KS, to Xavier and Lela Dancer Stegeman. Anna married Oliver 
Fyfe on February 11, 1956. She was a farm wife and enjoyed gardening, 
puzzles, cooking, card games and spending time with her family. Anna was
 an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Colby. Anna had an 
affectionate smile that many will remember her for.


She was preceded in death by her grandson Lee; parents, Xavier and Lela 
and siblings, Harry, Robert, Alice, Ernest, Richard, Michael, Kenneth 
and Agnes.


She is survived by her husband Oliver; her children, Deborah &amp; 
Barry, David &amp; Terri, Dorothy &amp; Darrell and Dennis &amp; Dulci;

Velma I.&nbsp;Brent, 99, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away on Friday, February 
28, 2020, at the Bethesda Home of Aberdeen, SD. &nbsp;Velma was born on 
January 28, 1921, in Osborne County, KS to Carl &amp; Angie (Storer) 
Britt. &nbsp;She was one of several children.

Velma grew up on the family farm and attended&nbsp;country school. &nbsp;She graduated from Harlan High School.&nbsp;

Velma met &amp; married DuWayne Brent on September 14, 1941, in Alton,
 KS. &nbsp;To this union, two children were born. &nbsp;Their first farm was in 
Portis, KS. &nbsp;In 1970, they moved back to Velma's family farm. &nbsp;In 2010, 
they moved to South Dakota to be near their daughter, Sheryl. &nbsp;

When she was little the local pastor took Velma to church every 
Sunday and at the age of 9, Velma accepted the Lord. &nbsp;She was&nbsp;a member 
of the Lawrence Creek Wesleyan Methodist Church for 25 years. &nbsp;Later 
Velma joined&nbsp;the Osborne Free Methodist Church and was a faithful member
 for 34 years while they lived in the Osborne, KS area.&nbsp;Velma was active
 on committees within the church &amp;&nbsp;taught Sunday School. &nbsp;She 
enjoyed her farm animals, fishing, cooking and&nbsp;sewing.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, DuWayne 
in 2013; son: Galen Brent; daughter-in-law: Cheryl; granddaughter: 
Bailey Bauer; sisters: Lucille Strain &amp; Wanda Roberts.

Velma is survived by her daughter, Sheryl (Randy) Bauer; 
grandchildren: Bryan (Stacy) Bauer; Shane Bauer; Megan Bauer; Gabriel

Wanda M. Johnson, 96, died on Sunday, March 1, 2020, at Lake Point 
Assisted Living in Wichita.  

She was born on August 2, 1923, at Laclede, 
Missouri the daughter of Walter Edward &amp; Lena Eloise (Phillips) 
Mossbarger.  She married Fred Dale Johnson on December 30, 1943, at 
Washington, D.C..  He died on February 27, 1973.


Wanda grew up and attended school in Laclede, Missouri.  She then 
attended Chillicothe Business School.  She passed her civil service 
examination and moved to Washington D.C. where she worked for the 
Department of Navy.  After her marriage she moved back to Laclede while 
her husband was in the military.  After his discharge they moved to 
Dighton.  After her husband’s death she worked at Grumbein Motor Company
 in Dighton until moving to Wichita where she worked for the State of 
Kansas in the Service For The Blind until retiring in 1993.  She was a 
member of the Christian Church in Valley Center and V.F.W. Auxiliary.  
She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and especially loved to read.  
She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Daughter- Gloria Jean
 Johnson and 2 Sisters- Irene Evans &amp; Betty Shea Grimsley.


She is survived by her Children- Gail Fogo of Wyoming, Russell Johnson 
of Gove, Nancy Blume of Panama City, Florida, Robert Johnson of Shawnee,
 Oklahoma and Ronnie Johnson of park City, 8 Grandchildren, 13 
Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great-Granddaughter.


Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM Saturday at First Christian Church 
in Dighton with Rev Aerii Smith officiating.  Burial will be in Dighton 
Memorial Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society

Phillipsburg resident John A. Beim passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at the Phillips County Hospital, Phillipsburg, at the age of 88.

He was born October 22, 1931 in Phillips County, KS the son of Joseph John and Addie Florence (Anderson) Beim.

John was united in marriage to Shirley Klotz on July 22, 1956 in Phillipsburg.&nbsp; She preceded him in death in 2012.&nbsp; He was also preceded in death by a sister, Geneva Burton.

Survivors include his daughter, Paula Lyon of Phillipsburg; 3 sons, Timothy of Phillipsburg, Michael of Keokuk, IA and Perry of Wichita, KS; 8 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 6, 2020 at the Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stuttgart, with Pastor Lee Bennight officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the First Lutheran Cemetery, Phillips County, KS.

Mr. Beim will lie in state from noon until 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, 1115 2nd Street, Phillipsburg, KS&nbsp; 67661.

Brian Joseph Holzmeister, 50, of Colby, died Monday, March 2, 2020.

 </figure>Brian Joseph Holzmeister, 50, of Colby, died Monday, March 2, 2020. He 
was born August 11, 1969, in Hoxie, KS, to Donald and Agnes (Munk) 
Holzmeister. Brian worked at Great Western Tire, for almost 20 years. He
 also drove truck for Oakley Chemical and Poole Chemical, of Oakley and 
owned his own truck. Brian was an avid Denver Broncos fan. He enjoyed 
company with friends, eating and drinking, and giving people a hard 
time. The most important thing in Brian’s life was the time he spent 
with friends and family, especially, his grandbaby. 
Brian is survived by his children, Christine Holzmeister, of Colby and 
Chase Holzmeister, of Harlingen, TX; parents, Don &amp; Agnes 
Holzmeister, of Colby; brother Doug (Susan) Holzmeister, of Colby; 
nephew Brady Holzmeister (22); niece Shaylee Holzmeister (12) and 
grandson Benjamin Turner (1.5).
