Jean Silcott, 83, of Atwood, died Saturday, February 22, 2020. She was 
born December 20, 1936, in Alton, IL, to Emil C. and Alice A. (Bower) 
Johnson. Jean lived in Denver and worked at the Rocky Mountain News for 
many years. She also worked at Fairmont Cemetery for a couple of years. 
Jean was a long time member of the Baptist Church and joined the Atwood 
Baptist Church upon moving to Atwood.


Jean was preceded in death by her husband Richard Silcott; son Gary Silcott and brother and sister-in-law Don (Mary) Johnson.


She is survived by her daughter Terry Silcott, of Atwood, KS; son Jack 
Silcott, of Commerce City, CO and numerous grandchildren, great 
grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.


No services are scheduled. Inurnment will take place in the Fairmont 
Cemetery, Denver, CO. Memorials are suggested to the Atwood Good

Gary L. Cossman, 67, passed away February 28, 2020 at his home in Jetmore, KS.

He was born February 7, 1953 in Dodge City, KS, the son of J.M. and

He was associated with the Kalvesta United Methodist Church.

On November 25, 1978, he married Sue Woods in Cimarron, KS .&nbsp; She survives.

Neal Walter Flesher, 86, Hays, died Friday, February 28, 2020 at Select Specialty Hospital in Wichita.

He was born May 8, 1933 in Scandia, 
Kansas the son of Kenneth Orville and Lillian Marie (Strand) Flesher.&nbsp; 
On July 26, 1951 he was united in marriage to Lorena Marie Charbonneau 
in St. Joseph, Kansas, and they celebrated over 68 years of marriage.&nbsp; 
In 1953 he was drafted into the United States Army and was a Corporal 
and a tank gunner in the Sixth Armored Division during the Korean War.&nbsp; 
For 47 years Neal worked in the grocery store business starting as 
manager of Boogaarts Fine Food Store, then area supervisor in Western 
Kansas for Bestyet Foods, and finally a salesman to grocery stores in 
Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and South Dakota.&nbsp; After retiring 
from the grocery store business, he drove to aquire used cars for 
automotive retailers.&nbsp; His memberships included Immaculate Heart of Mary
 Catholic Church, Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #6984, and 
for more than 50 years the Fourth Degree St. Pius X Assembly in Atwood.&nbsp;
 He enjoyed old time fiddle, guitar, banjo, Hawaiian guitar and gospel 
music, Ray Steven’s comedy, homemade ice cream, and gooseberry and 
raisin cream pies.&nbsp; He loved woodworking and helping his children and 
grandchildren with various building, repair, and landscaping projects.

Survivors include his wife Lorena of 
Wichita, three sons: Michael N. Flesher and wife Paula of Hays, Steven 
G. Flesher and wife Vicki of Wichita, and Kevin E. Flesher and wife 
Barbara of Brookfield, CO, a daughter: Lori A. Flesher of Hays, seven 
grandchildren: Neal J. Flesher and wife Kelly, Marjorie Flesher, Paul M.
 Flesher, Amanda Flesher, Andrew Flesher and wife Katie, Abigail 
Flesher, and Angela Flesher, three great grandchildren: Alexis Brockert,
 Nola Flesher, and Madelyn Sophie Flesher, a sister: Lorene Martin of 
Oskaloosa, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother; Raymond Flesher.

Neal Walter Flesher

LaRee E. “Ree” Reifschneider, 73, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away 
Friday, February 28, 2020, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.



Ree was born January 28, 1947, in Great Bend, Kansas, the daughter of 
Wayne and Evelyn (Partridge) Schultz.  She was a lifelong resident of 
Rush County, Kansas.  A 1965 graduate of Bison Rural High School, Bison,
 Kansas, she was an Accounts Payable Clerk for Mid State Farmers Coop, 
Rush Center, Kansas.



She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.



Yard work and gardening were Ree’s favorite passion.



On July 12, 1969, she married Bob Reifschneider at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.  



Survivors include:  her husband, Bob Reifschneider, La Crosse, Kansas; 
three sons, Kevin Reifschneider (Melanie Boucher, Wichita, Kansas, Mark
 Reifschneider (Jill Folkerts, McPherson, Kansas, and David 
Reifschneider (Johnny Feliciano, Reno, Nevada; three grandchildren, 
Katlyn Reifschneider, Scottsdale, Arizona, Jack Reifschneider, Topeka, 
Kansas, and Bo Reifschneider, Wichita, Kansas; her mother, Evelyn Cosby,
 La Crosse, Kansas; and one brother, Brian Schultz, Ocean Springs, 
Mississippi.



She was preceded in death by her father; her stepfather, Newman Cosby; and two brothers, Randy Schultz, and Galen Schultz.

Valerie Ann (Ploutz) Ramsey, 56, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at her home in Russell.

Valerie was born December 29, 1963 in Russell, one of eight children born to Frank and Bettie (Windholz) Ploutz.&nbsp; She grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in the Class of 1982.

Valerie was united in marriage to Perry Ramsey on August 7, 1982 in Russell.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two children; Diana and Brian.&nbsp; They made their home in Russell.

Valerie was a devoted wife and homemaker.&nbsp; She also worked over the years at many business in Russell including 15 years at Russell A&amp;W, Casey’s, King of the Road, Pohlman’s Hardware and the Dairy Queen.&nbsp; In her spare time she enjoyed fishing, reading Stephen King novels, working with wood and especially spending time with family and friends.

Valerie’s surviving family include her husband of 37 years, Perry of the home; daughter, Diana VanBruggen (Anthony) of Russell, Kansas; son, Brian Ramsey (Robyn) of Russell, Kansas; three brothers, Jack Ploutz (Stacie) of McCraken, Kansas, Jeff Ploutz (Terrie) of Russell, Kansas and Justin Ploutz of Burdett, Kansas; three sisters, Carolyne Orcutt of Rama, Colorado, Raileene Ramsey (Roger) of Russell, Kansas and Pamela Ramsey (Wilbern) of Russell, Kansas; and two grandchildren, Annisyn VanBruggen and Shay Ramsey.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Jim Ploutz.

Valerie Ann Ramsey

Mary (Joyce) Eldridge, 82, passed away on February 27, 2020, at 
Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood. She was born March 3, 1937, to Aaron 
and Beaulah Loftin in Raleigh, Mississippi.

Joyce graduated from Magee High School in June of 1954. She worked as
 a bookkeeper at Union Planters National Bank, Merrill Lynch and Pierce 
Fenner and Smith Stock Market in Memphis, Tennessee. This is where she 
met and married her first husband Billy Joe Eldridge. His job at NCR is 
what brought them to Kansas. She was a homemaker until he passed away in
 April 1975. She then went to work as a secretary for D.R. Lauck Oil Co 
and Branson Truck Service. Eventually she decided to go into business 
for herself and she owned and operated two liquor stores, one in Great 
Bend and another in LaCrosse.

She enjoyed being with her family and friends. She also enjoyed 
playing cards, golf, reading and volunteering for her church and other 
organizations. Just before retiring at age 74 she also worked for Elder 
Care and Girls Home. She was an “adopted” mom to many young people who 
often came to her for a listening ear and advice.

She belonged to Trinity Methodist Church, V.F.W. and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by two sons, Patrick (Gina, and Wally Eldridge of 
Great Bend; and one daughter, Kristi Grant (Robert) of Casper, Wyoming; 
Six Grandchildren, Doug, Derick, Billy, Devin, John, and Haley; Eight 
Great Grandchildren, Trinity, Trystan, Brysen, Andric, Hunter, Dax, 
Harley, and Cooper; two brothers, Ray Loftin (Janie, and Steve Loftin 
(Jackie); and two sister-in-law’s, Ruth Loftin, and Nila Widner; As well
 as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her 
parents; and a brother, Mitch Loftin.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., Monday, March 2, 
2020, with family to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral 
service will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at Trinity United
 Methodist Church, located at Broadway &amp; Patton Road, Great Bend 
with Pastor Seong Lee officiating. Burial will follow the service at 
Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery, Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to

Vivian Carol “Tootsie” (Bremmer) Streit died Monday evening, February 24, 2020 at Hays Medical Center in Hays, KS.

Carol was born on March 7, 1941 in Booker, TX. She was the eighth 
child of Konrad and Maida (Halliburton) Bremmer. She graduated from 
Booker High School and St. Mary's of the Plains in Dodge City, KS. with a
 Bachelors of Science in Home Economics.

On July 28, 1962, she married Donald L. Streit in Tipton, KS. at St. Boniface Catholic Church.

Carol was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Offerle, 
KS. She was the organist for many years. Carol served the church by 
providing fresh floral and plant arrangements, teaching youth religion 
class, and sponsoring many CYO ski trips.

Carol spent 38 years in the teaching profession in Offerle, Kinsley, 
Hanston, and Dodge City. She loved teaching cooking and sewing, 
volleyball, music, swimming, gardening, and camping.

Carol is survived by her husband, Debbie and Terry Bottorf of Hays, 
KS, Don and Alma Streit of San Antonio, TX, Dan and Karen Streit of 
Basehor, KS, and David and Traci Streit of Edwardsville, KS, a brother 
Dale Bremmer of Hattiesburg, MS, a sister Barbara Pavley and husband Bob
 of Canton, IL, 8 Grandchildren, and 3 Great Grandchildren. She was 
preceded in death by her parents, brothers Edwin Bremmer, Konrad “Bunny”
 Bremmer, and 3 sisters Dortha (Bremmer) Cline, Francis (Bremmer) Brin, 
and Mary (Bremmer) McDaniel.

Christeen was born the daughter of Donald &amp; Kathleen (Tromler) Mullen on May 4, 1952 in Smith Center, KS.


She was preceded in death by her  husband Richard Jim Rightnar, 
father Donald Mullen, mother Kathleen Gardner (Tromler, stepfather Ed 
Gardner and her brother Alan Mullen.


She is survived by her daughter Tammy (David) Stickelman of Valley 
Falls, NE; sons Steven (Christine) Rightnar of Moreno Valley, CA and

Christeen Kay Rightnar

Wilma M. (Holcombe) Welch, age 65, Stockton, passed away on Wednesday,
 February 26, 2020 in Hays, Kansas. Wilma was born on May 19, 1954 at 
St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita, Kansas to Doyle and Neva (McCormick) 
Holcombe. She grew up in the Sedgwick and Rooks County area. She met and
 married Charles Welch on October 3, 1998 at the Methodist Church in 
Woodston, Kansas. After their marriage they moved to Winkleman, Arizona 
until her husband’s retirement from the copper mines in 2003. They 
returned to Rooks County where they resided in Woodston and later 
relocated to Stockton, and finally, Plainville. 


Wilma enjoyed ancestry and spent a lot of time on genealogy. She was
 very artistic, earning awards with her talents creating ceramics. Wilma
 was an animal lover, and she cherished her beloved dogs and her family.
 Her caring nature and kindness will be remembered by those who knew 
her. She will be greatly missed.


Wilma is survived by her husband Charles of Plainville; brother, 
Garold Holcombe and wife Judy of Maud, OK; niece, Melissa Weidow and 
husband John of Geronimo, OK; nephew, John Holcombe and wife Dr. Brianne
 of Ft. Bragg, NC; great-nephews, John Garold Weidow, Trenton and Rhylan
 Holcombe; as well as cousins in the surrounding Rooks County Area.


She is preceded in death by her parents, Doyle and Neva Holcombe; and siblings David Leon and Carol Jean Holcombe.


A Graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 
the Stockton City Cemetery starting at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held
 on Friday, February 28, starting at 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the 
funeral home in Stockton.

Leon John Pfaff passed away just shy of his 80th birthday on February
 26, 2020 at his home in Brownell, Kansas. He was born on March 1, 1940 
in McCracken, Kansas the son of John and Silvina (Hammerschmidt) Pfaff.

Leon was a farmer stockman. He married Pat Miller on Tuesday, May 21, 1963, in LaCrosse, Kansas. She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Jim (Glennis) Pfaff of Grinnell, 
Duane Pfaff of Ellinwood; three daughters, Connie (Phil) Eickhoff of St.
 George, Joni (Mike) Mask of Ransom, Tami (Daniel) Branham of Albert;

Lindsay, TX; four sisters, Betty Miller of Ellinwood, Eileen (Larry)

Joseph “Joe” Delaine Levingston, 77, passed away February 25, 2020, 
at his home in Great Bend. 

He was born on August 24, 1942, at Hays to 
William C. &amp; Bona Jane (Desmarteau) Levingston. He married Debbie 
Young on February 20, 1983, at Pawnee Rock. She survives. A 
lifetime Barton county resident, Joe came to Great Bend from Pawnee 
Rock. He was a drilling supervisor for Duke Drilling. Joe was a member 
of the American Legion and the Kansas Oil &amp; Gas Museum. He was a 
very honest, hardworking and patriotic man that decorated his yard with 
over 500 flags for patriotic holidays. Joe loved golfing, his flowers, 
yard work, and going to the lake. He served in the United States Army. 
Joe was a family man and especially loved his grandbabies.Survivors 
include, his wife, Debbie of the home; two sons, Robert Levingston and 
wife Sue, and Danen Levingston, all of Great Bend; three daughters, 
Sherry Axman and husband Steve of Great Bend, Susan Marley and companion
 Doyle Lippert of Corpus Christi, Tex., and Megan Shields and husband 
Brandon of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, William "Bo" Levingston and wife
 Cindy of Great Bend; two sisters, Sandra Supinski of Pahrump, Nev., and
 Debra Ernest and husband Michael of Hoisington; 21 grandchildren; 41 
great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild. He was preceded in 
death by his parents, William C. and Bona Jane Levingston; a daughter, 
Diana Trimmer; a son in law, John Trimmer; and a brother in law, Lou 
Supinski; and 4 great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., at the 
American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend, on Saturday, March 14, 2020. 
Military Rites will be conducted by the American Legion Riders. In lieu

She married Howard Nathan Davis on December 25, 1959, at Duncan, Okla. 
He died November 30, 2016.

Natalyn was a retired homemaker who enjoyed helping on the farm, 
especially with her llamas. She enjoyed the outdoors and gardening as 
well. Natalyn also worked at Taylor Toys for many years before working 
at Sunflower Diversified Services with special needs clients, a job that
 she thoroughly loved.

Survivors include, three sons, Michael G. Davis and wife Suzette of 
Dodge City, Aaron N. Davis and wife Elizabeth of Whetmore, Colo., and 
Heath A. Davis of LaCrosse; a daughter, Patricia C. Stone and husband 
Desmond of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Walter and wife Lyle Gould 
of Dodge City, and Nat Gould, Jr. and wife Lynn of Australia; 15

Meredith Victoria “Vicki” (Harlan) Hallagin, age 75, of Ellis, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney, Kansas. She was born on December 22, 1944 in Belleville, Kansas to James Harlan and Betty Kopsa. Her mother, Betty, later married Eldon Evert who raised Vicki from the age of 5 years old. Vicki graduated from Republic County High School in 1962 and attended four years of college at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas.

Vicki met Ronald Hallagin while attending Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; They were married on December 27, 1964 in Republic, Kansas.&nbsp;

She worked at Ellis Good Samaritan for over 20 years.&nbsp; She was very active with Arbor Day activities including the poster contest and had become known as the “Tree Lady”.&nbsp; She started the 5th grade “Plant a Tree Program” in Ellis, Kansas. She was an active member of the Ellis United Methodist Church teaching Sunday School and participating in the Methodist Ladies church group and sewing quilts. Vicki collected a unique assortment of Mouse Figurines.&nbsp;

 </figure>Meredith Victoria “Vicki” (Harlan) Hallagin, age 75, of Ellis, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney, Kansas. She was born on December 22, 1944 in Belleville, Kansas to James Harlan and Betty Kopsa. Her mother, Betty, later married Eldon Evert who raised Vicki from the age of 5 years old. Vicki graduated from Republic County High School in 1962 and attended four years of college at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas.Vicki met Ronald Hallagin while attending Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; They were married on December 27, 1964 in Republic, Kansas.&nbsp;She worked at Ellis Good Samaritan for over 20 years.&nbsp; She was very active with Arbor Day activities including the poster contest and had become known as the “Tree Lady”.&nbsp; She started the 5th grade “Plant a Tree Program” in Ellis, Kansas. She was an active member of the Ellis United Methodist Church teaching Sunday School and participating in the Methodist Ladies church group and sewing quilts. Meredith Victoria 'Vicki' (Harlan) Hallagin

Lorena I. Pate was born October 14, 1923 in a farmhouse in Jewell County, Kansas to Sarah (Gilbert) and George Walker. She departed this life on Friday, February 21, 2020 at the SunPorch of Smith Center in Smith Center, Kansas at the age of 96 years, 3 months and 7 days.

Lorena received her formal education and graduated from the Mankato High School in 1941. She was united in marriage with Neil Pate on April 1, 1950. They made their home on the farm south of Esbon. This union was blessed with five children, Eldon, Terry, Michael, Greg and Nancy. Lorena lost Neil in 1962, due to an accident on the farm. She continued to live on the farm another five years and then moved into Esbon. She worked several years at the café, she was a cook at the school in Esbon and purchased the café and operated it for several years. Lorena sold the café in 1998, and in 1999, moved to Hays where she worked for First Call for Help and the Sternberg Museum.

As her health began to fail, she moved to SunPorch in Smith Center in 2018.

Lorena was a hard worker and a great cook. She had many roadblocks in her life but her family was the highlight of her life.

Preceding her in death were her parents; four brothers; her husband, Neil, and a grandson, Neil Russell Pate.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Eldon (Delilah); Terry (Joan); Michael of Esbon, Kansas; Greg (Michaela, Lucas; Nancy (friend Curt) of Hays, Kansas. Her grandchildren, Jennifer (Kyle) Clark, Ryan Pate (Kendra, Kristi (Bryce) Haverkamp, Elisha (Jim) Bolte, Ericia (Emerson) Prothro, Kasha (Josh) Alcorn, Justin Pate, Nicole Brown, Stehanie Pate, Sarah (Ryan) Brown, Patrick (Ashley) Bergman, Rachel (Albert) Kraus, along with 23 great grandkids, nieces, nephews and friends.

The Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, 2:00 pm, February 24, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Esbon, Kansas with Fr. David Michael officiating. Interment was at the Esbon Cemetery.

Werner Duane Burch, age 46, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at Wichita County Health Center in Leoti, Kansas. 

 Werner was born February 8, 1974, in Tribune, Kansas, the son of Lester Lew &amp; Lyla Kay ( Rowton ) Burch Sr.  A 1992 graduate of  Hartshorne High School in Hartshorne, Oklahoma, he moved to the Leoti area in 1994.  He was a farmer.

Werner was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Leoti, Kansas.  He once served as Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus and formerly served on the Wichita County Farm Bureau Board of Directors

On May 18, 1996, he married Adrienne Fay McRae in Leoti, Kansas.

His Wife- Adrienne Burch of Leoti, Kansas,  Three Children including Brooklyn Burch of Leoti, Kansas,  Skyler &amp; Amanda Burch of Marienthal, Kansas and Brannon Burch of Leoti, Kansas.  Two Grandchildren- Korbin Casey &amp; Kaydence Burch of Marienthal, Kansas; His Parents- Lester &amp; Lyla Burch of Hartshorne, Oklahoma. Tressie Bailey Rogers was the sixth of 10 children, she was born 
February 14, 1924 near Genoa, Co to C. Earl Bailey and Ida Young Bailey.
 She passed away February 24, 2020 at the age of 96. 


When she was seven, her family moved to the Dresden area near the 
North Prairie Dog Creek, 8 miles north of Selden. She attended North 
Valley grade school and high school and then graduated from Decatur 
Community High School in 1941. Tressie was a lifelong member of The 
Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, now known as 
the Community of Christ, the headquarters is in Independence, MO. She 
was baptized in the Creek in 1933. 


On March 7, 1942, Tressie was united in marriage to W. A. “Bud” 
Rogers and to that union, two sons and one daughter were born. They made
 their home in Selden. They celebrated 72 years together in 2014. She 
was a devoted homemaker to not only her immediate family but was the 
home base for all the Bailey and Rogers’ families. Tressie was 
especially known for her homemade pies, bread and German Chocolate 
Cakes.


In her earlier life, Tressie and her sister, Millie, entertained the
 community many times with their singing and yodeling. She won numerous 
contests for her talent and most recently she would yodel for the 
residents at the Good Samaritan Society in Oberlin. 


She leaves to mourn her daughter, Shirley (Gary) Emigh; sons: Roy 
(Debra) Rogers and Terry (Sue) Rogers; brothers: Durward (Dode) Bailey 
and Sam Bailey Young; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren 
and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her 
parents; husband, Bud; sister, Mildred Brown; brothers: Melvin, Virgil 
“Bill”, Clifford, Donald, Ernest “Buzz”, and Elzy Ray Bailey and 
grandsons: Roger Emigh and Tate Roy Rogers. She will be terribly missed 
until we meet again!


Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Saturday, February 29, 2020 
at Pauls Funeral Home, Oberlin. Burial will follow at the Selden

Charles W. “C.W.” Gustin, 88, died February 26, 2020, at HaysMed, 
Hays, Kansas. He was born February 15, 1932, in Great Bend, Kansas, the 
son of Clarence W. and Angeline (Budig) Gustin. C.W. attended Galatia 
Grade School and graduated from Hoisington High School in 1950. He then 
attended Ft. Hays State College before enlisting in the United States 
Army, where he served as a corporal from 1952 – 1954 during the Korean 
War.

On November 21, 1954, he married LaJune Michaelis at the First United Methodist Church, in Hoisington, Kansas.

During their first years of marriage C.W. worked for his 
father-in-law, Michaelis Excavating and then Galatia CO-OP. He later 
worked the parts counter for Great Bend Auto Parts, Pistol Pete’s, and 
then retired from Doonan Trailer Corporation. During his lifetime he was
 often engaged in farming and had also drove the bus at Hoisington High 
School for 13 years.

A longtime resident of Galatia, moving to Great Bend in the last few years.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Galatia, and later St.
 Mark Lutheran Church in Great Bend. He was also a member of the 
American Legion, the Elks Lodge, and had served on the board for the 
Rural Water District.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, LaJune Gustin of the home; 
and their four children, Brent Gustin and wife Clare of Hays, Kevin 
Gustin and wife Kathy of Colorado Springs, CO, Reneé Cook of Tulsa, OK, 
and Craig Gustin and wife Stacey of Ellsworth; a brother, Larry Gustin 
of Wichita; and seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Friends may call 1 to 5p.m., Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 
with family to greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Charles W. 'C.W.' Gustin

Cheryl L. Conard, 70, Timken, Kansas, died Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.



Cheryl was born August 23, 1949, in La Crosse, Kansas, the daughter of 
Edward and Mildred (Dempewolf) Sauer.  She was a lifelong resident of 
Rush County, Kansas.  A 1967 graduate of La Crosse High School, La 
Crosse, Kansas, she was an Administrative Assistant at La Crosse 
Furniture Company, La Crosse, Kansas, before her retirement.



She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and St. Ann’s Altar 
Society, both of Timken, Kansas.  Cheryl was also the Team Leader of the
 Triple C Wildcats Relay for Life Team.  She was a member of Prairie 
Pals EHU, and volunteered assisting with the distribution of the 
commodities in Rush County, Kansas. 



On August 24, 1968, she married Terry Conard at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.  



Survivors include:  her husband, Terry Conard, Timken, Kansas; two sons,
 Chad Conard (Valerie, Parker, Colorado, and Chris Conard (Julie, 
Leoti, Kansas; one daughter, Tonya Hillman, Jetmore, Kansas; seven 
grandchildren, Tyler Conard, Kelsie Conard, William Conard, Jaycee 
Hillman, Caitlyn Conard, Allison Conard, and Myles Conard; two brothers,
 Jim Sauer (Judy, Wichita, Kansas, and Mike Sauer (Jana, Kearney, 
Nebraska; and four sisters, Gloria Morgan (Lance, Alexander, Kansas, 
Marie Herrman (Jim, Sharon, Oklahoma, DeAnn Mahoney (Pat, Geary, 
Oklahoma, and Suzanne Sauer, La Crosse, Kansas.



She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Joe Sauer.

Cheryl was born August 23, 1949, in La Crosse, Kansas, the daughter of 
Edward and Mildred (Dempewolf) Sauer. She was a lifelong resident of 
Rush County, Kansas. A 1967 graduate of La Crosse High School, La 
Crosse, Kansas, she was an Administrative Assistant at La Crosse 
Furniture Company, La Crosse, Kansas, before her retirement.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and St. Ann’s Altar 
Society, both of Timken, Kansas. Cheryl was also the Team Leader of the
 Triple C Wildcats Relay for Life Team. She was a member of Prairie 
Pals EHU, and volunteered assisting with the distribution of the 
commodities in Rush County, Kansas. 

On August 24, 1968, she married Terry Conard at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas. 

Survivors include: her husband, Terry Conard, Timken, Kansas; two sons,
 Chad Conard (Valerie, Parker, Colorado, and Chris Conard (Julie, 
Leoti, Kansas; one daughter, Tonya Hillman, Jetmore, Kansas; seven 
grandchildren, Tyler Conard, Kelsie Conard, William Conard, Jaycee 
Hillman, Caitlyn Conard, Allison Conard, and Myles Conard; two brothers,
 Jim Sauer (Judy, Wichita, Kansas, and Mike Sauer (Jana, Kearney, 
Nebraska; and four sisters, Gloria Morgan (Lance, Alexander, Kansas, 
Marie Herrman (Jim, Sharon, Oklahoma, DeAnn Mahoney (Pat, Geary, 
Oklahoma, and Suzanne Sauer, La Crosse, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Joe Sauer.

Visitation will be Friday, February 28, 2020, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 
P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas, with the family 
receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. A vigil service and 
rosary will be at 7:00 P.M. 

Church visitation will be Saturday, February 29, 2020, from 9:00 A.M. to
 9:50 A.M. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Timken, Kansas.

Funeral service will be Saturday, February 29, 2020, at 10:00 A.M. at 
Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Timken, Kansas, with Father Stephen

Cheryl L. Conard

Sheila Wanneene Dobbs Gebhards died Tuesday, February 24, 2020 under 
hospice care at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community in Lawrence, Kansas 
after a struggle with severe anemia and a failing heart.

Sheila was born May 3, 1934 in Colby, Kansas, the daughter of F.H. 
and Elsie Carpenter Dobbs. Growing up in the Great Depression was not 
easy.&nbsp; Her dad did several things to support his family, including 
raising turkeys and sheep. Eventually the family left the farm near 
Colby and settled first in Wallace (where Sheila went to grade school) 
and then in Sharon Springs where her mom had a small restaurant, her dad
 did roofing and where F.H. (Fidelo Hubert) became Judge Dobbs, a 
position later occupied by Sheila’s brother – Logan.&nbsp;

As the youngest by some 13 years from the oldest, Edith, Sheila was 
somewhat protected, especially since her next oldest sibling, Shirley 
was lost to an infection at an early age, after appendicitis.&nbsp; One thing
 Sheila enjoyed was the freedom she had when visiting her mother’s 
sister and her cousins in Salina. They were allowed to go to the park 
across from the house (by themselves!) and to ride the bus with their 
dad, the bus driver.&nbsp; Sheila got to do that too, when she was with them.

On December 23, 1951, Sheila married James A. (Jim) Gebhards in 
Sharon Springs, KS.&nbsp; &nbsp;Together, they raised their sons Randy and Rex on 
the farm east of Weskan, KS.&nbsp;

Sheila was a fiercely loving wife and mother, and “Mom” was her 
favorite title.&nbsp; She worked alongside her husband to build a home for 
Randy and Rex, taking on “outside the farm” jobs such as school 
bus-driver, wall-paperer and painter. She was a great cook and baker, 
often providing pies and other treats for high school concessions, 
skating parties of the frozen variety and hosting family dinners. She 
enjoyed oil painting on canvas and attending auctions and antique 
stores, opening her own store to sell the excess - the Prairie Peddler 
in Sharon Springs in the early 1980s.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Sheila is survived by her daughter-in-law Lou Ann Gebhards, of 
Lawrence, KS; sister-in-law Irene Gittinger of Coffeyville, KS, 
sister-in-law Sheila Kay Gebhards of Walnut Creek, CA; and many loving 
nieces and nephews.&nbsp; Sheila was preceded in death by her husband Jim, 
and sons Randy and Rex; her parents, her sisters Shirley and Edith 
Dobbs; brother Logan Dobbs and his wife Bertha Dobbs.&nbsp;

The family wishes to thank the caring and supportive nurses and staff

Todd Eugene Bellinger, 63, of Atwood, passed away Friday morning, 
February 21, 2020.  

He was born March 20, 1956 in Washington, KS to 
Charles J. and Ida May (Landis) Bellinger.  Growing up Todd and his 
sister, Charla, had a paper route in Syracuse, KS.  Then in high school 
he worked at Roy’s Jack and Jill Grocery, Millsap’s Grocery and dog 
kennel, Charlie Caron’s Dairy Delight in Syracuse, KS. After that, he 
worked a variety of jobs. He farmed and worked cattle for Wendell, 
Warren and Buster Zenger of Haddam, KS and Chuck Hardenburger, also of 
Haddam. He was a welder for Landoll’s Manufacturing in Marysville, KS 
and worked for the Washington County Road and Bridge Building department
 in Washington, KS where he also made and cooked pizza for a convenience
 store. Todd worked in Dalhart Texas for a while on a farm, feedlot and 
at grain hauling company, where he learned to drive semi-truck. He 
worked at a cannery in Denver, CO and at Shallow Water refinery, in 
Shallow Water, KS. Todd also drove a van for Mahaska Dog Kennel in 
Mahaska, KS, delivering puppies to pet stores in Florida and New York. 
He did over the road truck driving for Triple D Trucking, of Atwood and 
Sudbury Transportation, of Wichita, KS. Todd was just starting a part 
time small engine repair service out of his home in Atwood.  Todd 
enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to fish, hunt, trap, snow ski and cook. 

 
He married Sue (Tompkins) Bellinger. She preceded Todd in death.


He was also preceded in death by his parents; nephews, Matthew G. Doty, 
Marcus F. Singer and David N. Doty; niece Jordyn N. Doty and 
nephew-in-law Mark F. Singer.  


Todd is survived by a sister Charla M. Dawson , of Atwood, KS; a brother
 Bruce W. Bellinger, of Hays, KS and many more nieces, nephews and 
friends. 


Cremation was chosen.  A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. 
Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Baalmann Mortuary, Atwood, KS. Inurnment

Todd Eugene Bellinger

Bruce Warren Coulson, friend and father, passed away on January 23, 2020 at his home in Corvallis, Oregon. He was 71 years old. 

Bruce was born in Hays, Kansas on February 4, 1948, the second son of M.F. and Cora (Stuckey) Coulson. 

Like his brother Jim, he attended Washington Grade School and joined scouting, becoming an active participant in the Boy Scouts of America and for several years attended the national jamboree at Philmont Scout Ranch.

A 1966 graduate of Hays High School, Bruce showed an early affinity for writing, contributing to the student newspaper and Indian Call, Hays High’s yearbook. That interest continued into his college years. He graduated with a BA in English from Fort Hays State University in 1971. While there Bruce was in the first pledge class to become members of Sigma Chi Fraternity.  

After graduating, Bruce began a lifelong career in education. He taught in Gallop, New Mexico and Hutchinson High School before returning to Fort Hays to earn a master’s degree in educational counseling in 1981. For the next 32 years he was a middle school and high school counselor, first in central and western Kansas, then in Colorado and New Mexico. 

His attraction to New Mexico began with summer vacations as a young boy at the family’s cabin on Taos Creek, then a pristine landscape he loved almost as much as western Kansas.  

Bruce married Kingman, Kansas native Linda Ewy in 1996, and their son, Aidan James, was born the following year. 

Upon Bruce’s retirement in 2013, the family moved from Grants, New Mexico to Corvallis, Oregon where Aidan finished high school. Bruce and Linda divorced in 2014. During his years in Corvallis, Bruce attended the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. He no longer hunted pheasants but often shot skeet, and he enjoyed spending time in his local community garden.  

Bruce Coulson is remembered as a loyal friend who maintained many of the attachments formed early in his life, both to the people and to the land where he grew up. 

He was an active reader throughout his life, and his thoughts and observations live on in the margins of the many books he left behind. Well-versed in contemporary literature and politics, he never lost his wry sense of humor, viewing the travails of the world more often as comedy than as missteps and lost opportunities.  

Bruce is survived by his son Aidan, now a senior at Portland State University. A memorial service in Kansas is pending.

Genita D. Hughes, 83, La Crosse, Kansas, died Monday, February 24, 
2020, at Rush County Memorial Hospital Intermediate Swing Bed, La 
Crosse, Kansas.



Genita was born August 3, 1936, in Rush Center, Kansas, the daughter of 
Carl and Dora (Goatley) Solomon.  She was a lifelong resident of Rush 
County, Kansas.  A 1954 graduate of La Crosse High School, La Crosse, 
Kansas, she was in administration at the ASCS office in La Crosse, 
Kansas, before her retirement.



She was a member of the United Methodist Church, La Crosse, Kansas, 
where she was currently the treasurer.  She was a volunteer at A Second 
Chance, and up until recently, the chairman of the Blood Drive, both of 
La Crosse, Kansas.  She was the current treasurer for the City of Rush 
Center, and Walnut Valley Senior Center, both of Rush Center, Kansas.  
She was also the current treasurer of the EUB Trust, and a member and 
current treasurer of the Sunflower Polka Club, Salina, Kansas.  Genita 
enjoyed bowling, and was a member of a Thursday morning bowling team in 
Hays, Kansas.



On September 12, 1956, she married George R. Corsair at Glenwood Springs, Colorado.  They later divorced.



On September 1, 1991, she married Kent N. Hughes at Sheridan County, Missouri.  He preceded her in death December 31, 2004.



Survivors include:  five sons, Scott Corsair (Denise, Bazine, Kansas, 
Rex Corsair, Grand Junction, Colorado, Rod Corsair (Kally, Manzanola, 
Colorado, Kurt Corsair, Model, Colorado, and Ward Corsair (Kimberly, La
