Marjorie Lucille Vanderweide

Marjorie Lucille Vanderweide, age 85, died on Monday, May 18, 2020 at the Derby Health and Rehabilitation. She was born on March 1, 1935 in Shallow Water Kansas to Richard and Basil and Marjorie Ruth Toadvine Roark. She was a Garden City resident from 1959-2019 having moved from Atchison, Kansas.

She was a talented organist and pianist and taught lessons for many years and served as the organist at the First United Methodist Church.

Marjorie was a member of the United Methodist Women, Kappa Phi, PEO (Chapter X, O.E.S. Chapter X, Piano Teachers League, co-founder of Astrea. Before her retirement she was also very active with Stephin’s Ministry, Sisciple Bible Study, Boy Scouts - Mother of an Eagle Scout, Rainbow Girls - Advisory Board, Grand Cross of Color, Mother of Kansas Grand Worthy Advisor, a Foreign Exchange Mother thru AFS of Hans & Thomas of Germany and Frances of Belgium, Children’s Choir Director and a member of the First United Methodist Chancel Choir.

On January 28, 1956 she was married to Joe H. Vanderweide at the First United Methodist Church in Atchison, Kansas. He survives.

Connor Innes of Derby, Kansas

Jessica (Chan) Vanderweide of Topeka, Kansas

Bryan (Stephanie) Vanderweide of Longview, Washington

Timothy (Jessica) Vanderweide of Scott City, Kansas

Six Great Grandchildren: Everly and Tinley Tracy, Nicholas and Madison Freeland, Alex and Elianna Vanderweide

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, May 27 at 2 p.m. at the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas. Services will be streamed live on the Price & Sons Funeral Home Facebook page to keep attendance in line with the Ad Astra phased reopening plan.

A Celebration of life service will be held at a later date at the First United Methodist Church.

Calling hours will be from Tuesday, May 26, 2020 from 1-8 at the funeral home.
