Donna Lorraine Millan, daughter of Ben and Dona (Ledoboer) Harbers, was born December 13, 1932, 3½ miles north of Prairie View, Kansas, and passed away at the Andbe Home in Norton, Kansas, on May 23, 2020, at the age of 87.
Donna started school at Willowdale rural school and attended there for six years until the school closed. She then went to Prairie View starting in the seventh grade and graduated from the Prairie View High School with the class of 1951. In February 1952, Donna started her nursing career as a nurse's aide at the Norton County Hospital. On September 4, 1954, Donna and Joe Millan were united in marriage and they were blessed with one son, Timothy. In September 1963, Donna started her formal nurses training at the Mary Lanning School of Nursing in Hastings, Nebraska, and graduated in August 1966. She returned to continue working at the Norton County Hospital as a registered nurse for many years, working the night shift taking care of the newborn infants and their mothers. Joe passed away on September 28, 2001, and Donna retired from the hospital in 2003. She later worked at Whispering Pines and the Andbe Home and officially retired November 1, 2015, after working 63 years in nursing.
Donna was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Norton, the American Legion Women's Auxiliary, and the Eagles. She enjoyed going to church and was very talented with her crocheting which she exhibited at the Norton County Fair and received many first place ribbons. She dearly loved her family and some of her greatest memories were casino trips with her sister-in-law, Kathleen.
Survivors include: her son, Tim Millan, Norton; several nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Evelyn McCormack and husband, Lewis, three brothers, Albert, and wife, Erma Harbers, Marvin, and wife, June Harbers, and Stanley Harbers, her sister-in-law, Kathleen Hauck, and husband, Don, three brothers-in-law, Bob Millan and companion, Marguerite Godbout, Nish Millan, and wife, and Esther, and Manuel, and wife, Elaine Millan.
GRAVESIDE SERVICE AND INTERMENT – Saturday, May 30, 2020 – 10:00 a.m.
