Delbert Earl Ostrom

Delbert Earl Ostrom, of Plainvile, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2020 at the Hays Medical Center following a brief illness, at the age of 86. He was born in Neosho, Missouri on October 31, 1933 to Lola (Hawes) Ostrom. He later moved to Concordia, Kansas when his mother married Edward Ostrom. He attended schools in Concordia and graduated from Concordia High School.

Delbert married Charlotte Ann Ball on November 21, 1954 at the Baptist Church in Concordia. He farmed for several years before moving to Plainville in 1957 to work in the oil fields where he worked for Brown Bros. Well Service for a number of years before buying the business. He retired in 1998 and he and Charlotte traveled spending 18 winters in Arizona.

He loved bicycling and participated in the Biking Across Kansas several years and Ride the Rockies in Colorado. He earned his pilot’s license and flew his own plane on vacations as well as flying to Texas for parts and service equipment for his well business. He was also an avid computer and camera geek.

Delbert is survived by his wife Charlotte of the home in Plainville; sons, Mike (Peggy) Ostrom of Homer, AK, Terry (Joy) Ostrom of Derby, KS, and Curtis (Adel) Ostrom of Mt. Holly, NC; daughters, Karen Moeder of Oakley, KS, and Jo (Burl) Ward of West Dundee, IL; brother, Larry (Phyllis) of Concordia, KS; sister-in-law, Sue (Daryl) Gum of Concordia, KS; son-in-law, Mike Simon of Plainville; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lola Ostrom; daughter, Marilyn Simon; brother, Wesley Ostrom; son-in-law, John Moeder; daughter-in-law, Kay Ostrom; and brother-in-law, David Ball.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at 10:00 AM at the Plainville First Christian Church. There will be no visitation.
