Loren Lehmann, 81, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2020 at Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, KS. Loren
 was born November 3, 1938 in Gaylord, KS, the son of Adolph Frank and 
Eva Pearl (Auldridge) Lehmann.&nbsp; Loren enlisted in the United States Army
 on October 17, 1961 and was honorably discharged on October 16, 1963.&nbsp; 
On June 5, 1965 he married Jane Nicholas in Zenda, KS, they later 
divorced.&nbsp; On April 21, 1990 he married Darlene Deneke in Beloit, KS.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his wife Darlene, parents, sister Lois Hayes and an infant brother. 
 Loren is survived by his children, Billy Lehmann of Gaylord, Teresa 
(Ron) Corwin of Hutchinson, Greg (Katie) Lehmann of Concordia and four 
grandchildren, Josh and Sha Scheuerman, Mauryn Lehmann and Will Lehmann. Funeral
 Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 4, 2020 at All 
Faiths Funeral Chapel, 113 S. Madison St., Smith Center, KS, with Pastor
 Jason Kohler officiating.&nbsp; Visitation will be held on Thursday, 
September 3, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present to 
greet friends &nbsp;from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel.&nbsp;

Loren Lehmann

Jeffrey Thomas Minnick was born March 11, 1972 in Lincoln, NE to Thomas 
Frederick and Cynthia (Baker) Minnick. He passed away August 24, 2020 at
 his home in Houston, TX at the age of 48.
 Jeff graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1990. After he 
graduated, he moved to Colorado where he loved to hike mountain trails 
and snow skiing. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially the NFL and
 UFC and he enjoyed going to boxing matches. Jeff also loved traveling 
and seeing new places. When his son, Sam, was younger he enjoyed 
watching him compete in motocross. Most recently, Jeff was working for 
an energy, oil and mineral company, Targa, where he had moved up to a 
supervisor position. His employers thought a lot of him and had become 
very fond of his work ethic and dependibiltiy.
 Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Minnick in 1992; 
brother, Bryan Minnick in 1992 and stepfather, Scott Dolan in 2010. He 
is survived by his sons, Samuel Minnick of Dana Point, CA and Silas 
Minnick of San Leon, TX; mother, Cyndy Dolan of Oberlin, KS; brother, 
Nathan (Karlie) Minnick of Oberlin; sister, Nicole (Justin) Sauvage of 
Oberlin and nieces and newphews: Kariah, Gage, and Brylee Minnick, 
Breckin, Talan, and Josie Sauvage.

 Wayne Rein, 81, passed peacefully on August 28, 2020 as a result of 
COVID 19 at Hays Medical Center. He was born on February 19, 1939 at the
 farm south of Bazine to Fred Rein, Jr and Clara (Stieben) Rein. 

Leland
 was the 4th of 5 children. He attended a rural grade school south of 
Bazine and graduated from Bazine High School in 1957. He married Sherron
 Hanan of Ness City at the United Methodist church on May 29, 1960. They
 lived on the farm and raised two children. His lifelong passion was 
farming. He loved his cows, working in the field and bringing in the 
wheat and milo harvest. He was a very hard working man who could be 
stubborn, ornery and cantankerous. Even though it was hard to get up in 
the tractor and combine these last few years, he found a way much to the
 chagrin of those around him. He will be greatly missed by his family 
and friends.

 was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Cletus and 
Valis, a brother-in-law Ted and a sister-in-law Joann. He is survived by
 his wife Sherron, his sisters Glendoris Blattner and Genelda (Clarence)
 Gumescheimer, his children Laura (Jack) Lowery of Fort Collins, CO and 
Steven (Cheryl) Rein of Bazine, KS. Surviving grandchildren are Kacie 
(Chad) Patterson (Thornton, CO), Lexy (Skylar) Pegg (Loveland, CO), 
Mitchell Lowery (Honolulu, HI), Chase (Hope) Rein (Colwich, KS), Colton 
(Jodi) Rein (Greensboro, NC), Jennifer (Matt) Leiker (Hays) and Brian 
(Natalie) Ellis (Hays) and 5 great grandchildren. 

A
 private family graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 
2020 at 10:30am at the Bazine Cemetery. A memorial service will be 
delayed until there is a time to meet safely. We grieve with all who 
cannot be together during this heartbreaking pandemic.

Officer Mitchell&nbsp; A. “Mitch” Berens, age 52, died Friday, August 28, 2020,&nbsp; at Hays Medical Center. &nbsp; He was born August 21,1968, in Hays, Kansas to Vernon L. and Norma Jean (Kuhn) Berens.&nbsp; He married Tisha Dawn (Sader) on August 30, 2019, at Abilene, Kansas.

He was a Sergeant with the Hays Police Department for 25 years and retired in June of 2020.&nbsp; He attended the KLETC Police Academy in Hutchinson, Kansas, he received his Bachelor Degree at Fort Hays State University, and also was on the football team.&nbsp; He grew up in Victoria, Kansas and was a 1987 graduate of Victoria High School.&nbsp; Mitch enjoyed fishing, golfing, and spending time with his family.

Bradley Neil Rein, age 58, died at his home in Ness City on August 
23, 2020.&nbsp; He was born on October 29, 1961 in Ness City the son of 
Cletus and JoAnn (Dreasher) Rein.

After graduating from Bazine High School in 1980, Brad worked most of
 his life in the oil field around Ness County.&nbsp; On November 21, 1981 he 
married Cheri Stoecklein in Ness City. Together they raised two 
children.

Brad is survived by his daughter, Michelle Rein of Ness City and his 
son, Travis Rein and his wife Tisha of Wichita; five brothers, Dale of 
Burlington, Kansas, Daryl (Vonia) of Cimarron, Joel (Deneise) of 
Hutchinson, Alan of Bazine, and Myron of Ness City and three sisters, 
Cindy Rein of Wichita, Patty Legleiter (Neil) of Hays, and Julie Roane 
of Utica and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his 
parents and his sister Paula Rein.

Graveside memorial service will be held at the Bazine Cemetery on 
Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.&nbsp; Friends may come to

Bradley Neil Rein

Luther Calvin Keil, 96, passed away August 29, 2020, at McCall Manor,
 Salina. He was born July 5, 1924 at Galatia, to Siegmund and Ernestine 
(Becker) Keil. Luther married Patricia R. Browne April 21, 1947, at 
Folkston, GA. She died Oct. 19, 2010.

Luther, a Great Bend resident since 2009 coming from Framingham 
Mass., was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge, both of 
Great Bend, and the Fleet Reserve Association. He proudly served his 
country during WWII and the Korean War, retiring after 22 years from the
 U.S. Navy with the rank of Aviation Structural Mechanic Chief Petty 
Officer. Following his Navy retirement, Luther was a sales clerk for 
Macy's Department Store.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death 
by three brothers, Herbert Keil, Melvin Keil, and Arnie Keil; and three 
sisters, Milda Hopper, Leona Crotty, and Esther Kruckenberg.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 5, 2020, St. 
Mark Lutheran Church, with Rev. Adam Wutka presiding. Masks and social 
distancing are required. Interment will follow at Golden Belt Memorial 
Park, Great Bend, with military rites conducted by U.S. Navy Honor 
Guard. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday, September 4, at
 Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to St. Mark Lutheran 
Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Luther Calvin Keil

Brenda Kay Kaus, daughter of Donald E. and Betty Jo (Jackson) Alexander, was born March 13, 1952, in Norton, Kansas, and passed away peacefully at her home in Norton, on August 28, 2020, at the age of 68.

Brenda grew up in the Norcatur community, attending the Norcatur schools and graduating with the class of 1970.  On January 9, 1971, Brenda married the love of her life, John M. Kaus, in Norton, and together they raised two children.  Brenda enjoyed being a homemaker and also worked in customer service for several local businesses.  She also spent several years as caregiver for her parents in their later years.  She and John were currently enjoying their retirement and newly-built home and spending quality time with their family, especially their grandchildren.

Brenda was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and Altar Society and the American Legion Auxiliary in Norton.

Survivors include:  her loving husband, John, of their home in Norton; one daughter, Michele, and husband, Jim Railsback, Norton; one son, Mike, and wife, Jaime Kaus, Manhattan, Kansas; five grandchildren, Shyann, Cope and Knox Railsback, Norton; Carter and Kinsley Kaus, Manhattan; several brothers-and-sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Donny Joe Alexander and one sister, Barb Marvin.

Melvin D. Loreg, 92, passed away August 26, 2020, at Clara Barton 
Hospital, Hoisington. He was born on July 6, 1928, at Codell, Kan., to 
Mike &amp; Eva (Cline) Loreg. He married Joyce Ann Benoit on November 
26, 1955, at Phillipsburg. She died February 26, 2004.

A long time Great Bend resident, Melvin had previously lived in Hays 
and Plainville. Melvin was a long time oilfield employee, enjoying all 
aspects of the industry. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He 
was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish, Sunflower Polka Club, 
American Legion Argonne Post #180, and VFW Post #3111.

Survivors include, two sons, Clifford Loreg and wife Sabrina of Great
 Bend, and Melvin “Junior” Loreg and wife Tanna of Wichita; a daughter, 
Jeanette Sanders and husband Mike of Great Bend; three brothers, Mike 
“Junior” Loreg of Hoisington, Dean Loreg of Topeka, and Darrell Loreg of
 Clinton, Mo.; two sisters, Marjoria Lois Beockner of Hays, and LaDonna 
Lytle of Great Bend; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce Ann Loreg; five
 sisters; and two infant brothers.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial 
service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at 
Bryant Funeral Home, with Father Louis Trung Dinh Hoang presiding. 
Inurnment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery, with Military Rites 
conducted by the Army National Guard. Memorials are suggested to the 
Prince of Peace Parish or American Legion Post #180, in care of Bryant

Melvin D. Loreg

Edna Luella (Selbe) Wood of Cheyenne, Wyoming, died August 20, 2020, at 
Edgewood Aspen Wind at 95 years of age. 

She was born April 24, 1925, near
 Phillipsburg, Kansas. She was the second daughter born to John Carlyle 
and Cora Jane Reese Selbe. She attended country grade and high schools. 
She entered the five-year Nursing Program at Saint Marry College, 
Leavenworth, Kansas earning both a Nursing diploma from Saint Francis 
Hospital School of Nursing in 1946 and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing 
Education in 1948. Later she earned a Master of Science in Health 
Education from Southern Illinois University in 1972. She married 
Elmer Leroy Wood on June 6, 1948, at the First Christian Church, 
Phillipsburg, Kansas with Rev. MacDonald officiating. They moved to 
Wyoming living in various towns. She worked at Ivinson Memorial 
Hospital, Laramie; Belle Fourche Hospital, Belle Fourche, South Dakota; 
and Memorial Hospital, Cheyenne. She started working for the Veteran’s 
Administration Hospital Nursing Service in 1954 and retired in 1985. 
 During her nursing career she served as President of the Wyoming League
 for Nurses 1962-1966; member of the Governor’s Committee for Nurses in 
Wyoming 1960-1966; Chairman, Legislative Committee, Wyoming Nurses 
Association; member of Cheyenne Toastmistress Club; Chairman Wider 
Horizons Toastmistress Club; Chairman, Wider Horizons Toastmistress 
Club, Grand Junction, Colorado; member of the American Hospital 
Association for Health Manpower; member of consumer Planning Committee 
for University of Southern Illinois School of Medicine; member of Task 
Force for Continuing Education for Nurses in Kansas, 1980; adjunct 
member of faculty Fort Hays State University School of Nursing. Mrs. 
Wood co-authored two articles on Alzheimer’s which were published. She 
was a charter member of Eta Kappa Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, National 
Honor Society for Nurses, Washburn University, Topeka, Kansas. Mrs.
 Wood received many awards during her chosen career. She was the 
recipient of the Director’s Commendation for Superior Performance, 
Cheyenne, 1964; honorary recognition plaque Southern Illinois Nurses 
1976; honorary plaque from Task Force for Continuing Education for 
Nurses in Kansas, 1982; Outstanding Volunteer Service plaque, American 
Red Cross, Kansas. 1983, 1989. She was listed in Who’s Who of American 
Women in 1983 and 1984 and in the International Book of Honor in 1985. 
 Mrs. Wood was a life member of the American Nurse Association; the 
American Association of Retired Persons; the National Association of 
Retired Federal Employees; member of the North Christian Church; a past 
member of Eta Kappa Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, National Honor Society 
of Nurses; past member of the Cheyenne Heritage Quilt Club; past member 
of Topeka, Kansas Genealogy Society and the Phillips Co., Kansas 
Genealogy; alumni member of University of Saint Mary, Leavenworth, 
Kansas; Southern Illinois University and St. Francis Hospital School of 
Nursing. An avid student of genealogy for 60 years, she wrote seven
 books dealing with family history. Mrs. Wood enjoyed many avenues of 
fancywork – knitting, crocheting, embroidery, quilting, and tatting. 
Along with reading, volunteer activities and helping others, she worked 
for the Laramie Co. Election Board several years, considering the 
activity a valuable learning experience. Mrs. Wood was the mother 
of three children. She was a Girl Scout leader for three years; a 
sponsor of Boy Scouts; a teacher in Sunday School for five years. Her 
interest in the children was constant and their welfare was a guiding 
and controlling factor in her life. Preceding her in death were her
 beloved husband of 51 years, Elmer Leroy Wood, on September 12, 1999; 
her parents, John Carlyle, and Cora Jane Reese Selbe; and her sister 
Hazel Ilene Selbe Tracy. She leaves to mourn her, her three 
children: two daughters – Carolyn Ann Wood Helling and her husband 
Robert; Wanda Lee Wood Harris and her husband, James; and a son – John 
Leslie Wood. Three grandchildren – James R. Harris III and his wife, 
Michelle; John Carlyle Harris; and Ryan Scott Helling. Three 
great-granddaughters, Elizabeth M. Harris, Anastasia M. Harris, and 
Victoria R. Harris also sisters, Dona Minerva Irene Sutherland and Sarah
 Ann McKinley, MD, and numerous nieces, and nephews. Cremation has 
taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens under the direction of 
<a href="https://www.wrcfuneral.com/obituaries/Edna-Wood-4/#!/Obituary">Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel</a>. At the request of the deceased no memorial 
service will be held. Internment was conducted in Cheyenne Memorial

Melba Eleska Tillitson

Francis Edmund Bouts, better known as Frank, 91, of Selden, KS, died 
August 21, 2020 at Colby Hospital, Colby, KS. He was born May 18, 1929 
in Cedar, KS, to Anton and Leona Barnett Bouts. Frank was always a 
Kansas farm boy at heart and was certainly a child of the Great 
Depression. He grew up working harvests and herding cattle while 
attending school with his siblings. In 1942, when the war industry 
provided secure jobs with good pay, his family moved to Southern 
California, where Frank continued to do whatever he could do to help the
 family make ends meet. He cut grass, delivered papers, and sacked 
groceries, all while attending school at North Hollywood High School, 
graduating in 1947. He also worked for a time as an usher at CBS studios
 in Hollywood and was able to meet numerous stars of stage and screen. 
But though in a job that aspiring actors would be envious to have, his 
heart was still in Kansas, and he returned often to work in the wheat 
harvest, and eventually enrolled in KSU. 
It was while in Kansas that he met and married Betty Mae Sejkora of 
Jennings KS in 1951 and began a family together. Mindful of the lessons 
learned during the depression, he looked for greater security for his 
young family, and with the outbreak of war in Korea, he enlisted in the 
US Navy and moved to San Diego CA. Always proud of his service, possibly
 the greatest family legacy from that time is he learned to put peanut 
butter on pancakes, a practice that has been handed down and grateful 
children and grandchildren enjoy to this day. 
Completing his enlistment, Frank was drawn back to Kansas to resume 
farming. As ensuring security for his family was always foremost in his 
mind, in 1955 he took full time employment with United Airlines in what 
was then a nascent air transport industry. He earned qualification as an
 airframe and powerplant mechanic, and stayed with United for 39 years, 
an active participant in the birth of an industry and the introduction 
of the jet age. Throughout his time with United, he did what was needed 
to provide for a family that now included 7 children. And though his 
employer offered travel benefits allowing opportunity to see the world, 
his preferred vacation destination was often Kansas. 
As he reached retirement age, he met and married his second wife, Jean 
Zimmerman, of Kanona KS, and together they made a new home in Selden KS.
 It quickly became a place of refuge and reunion for the many children 
and grandchildren from both the Zimmerman and Bouts clans. And Grandad 
Bouts always had stories to tell, acquired during the years: most any 
child or grandchild can relay how Tack Foster got his nickname, having 
heard the story multiple times. And all would love to hear him tell it 
one more time. 
First of all things, Frank was a provider. He worked extra hours to 
ensure his family had a nice home, and holidays and Christmas were 
always a time to share in abundance. His favored past time was primarily
 working in his garden, and his children grew up believing that the rest
 of the world was also served corn on one’s plate that was just 30 
minutes removed from the stalk. He was always ready to help where he 
could, providing a timely assist when it was needed, because he could. 
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; by brother Donald; by his 
second wife Jean; and by his great granddaughter Binta Rose Jallow. 
He is survived by children, son Thomas and Cory Bouts, of Littleton CO, 
son Richard Bouts, of Selden KS, stepdaughter Rhonda and Kenneth 
Wildeman, of Jennings KS, son Gerald and Ellyn Bouts, of Denver CO, son
 Alan and Charlotte Bouts, of Westcliffe CO, stepson Ronald Zimmerman, 
of Boise ID, daughter Sarah and Marty Veitel, of Pensacola FL, son John 
Bouts, of Albuquerque NM, and daughter Dawn and Brian Albee, of Lakewood
 CO; with grandchildren Luke, Ellen, Josh, Jessica, Matt, Katy, Logan, 
Stefan, Annalee, Jessica, Joni, Jamie, Ryan, Aubben, Ben, Libby, 
Christina, Kim, Andy, Heather, and Liana; and 39 great grandchildren and
 many nieces, nephews and friends. 
Cremation was chosen. Family will receive friends and a Memorial 
Service held later after the coronavirus pandemic passes. Inurnment 
will follow in Jennings Cemetery, where Frank will be placed near his 
mother and father, Anton and Leona.

Dorthy J. Farr, 68, passed away, August 26, 2020 at the Dawson Place 
Nursing Home in Hill City, Kansas. She was a daughter of Raymond C. and 
Ethel N. (Smith) Brown. She married Robert Farr, June 20, 1972 in Hill 
City, Kansas.
 She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is 
survived by her sons Robert “Bob” and David Farr, both of Wakeeney, 
Kansas, as well as a daughter Cynthia Farr of Hill City. Mourning her 
loss as well include her four sisters: Barbara (Ed) Tien of 
Phillipsburg, Bessie (Jim) Rider, of Hutchinson, Ruth Deines of Hill 
City and Kathy (Tim) Gavin of Las Vegas Nevada; and five grandchildren.

Donna L. Schmidt, 70, La Crosse, Kansas, died Thursday, August 27, 2020, at her home.

Donna was born August 6, 1950, in La Crosse, Kansas, the daughter of LeRoy and Marie (Holopirek) Reifschneider.&nbsp; She was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas.&nbsp; She was a 1968 graduate of La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas, and a 1973 graduate of Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics.&nbsp; While attending K-State, Donna was a member of the K-State marching band.&nbsp; She was a teller at Farmers Bank and Trust, La Crosse, Kansas, for 30 years before her retirement in 2017.&nbsp;

She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, St. Michael’s Altar Society, and St. Michael’s Church Choir, all of La Crosse, Kansas.

On August 14, 1976, she married Richard L. “Rick” Schmidt at St. Michael’s&nbsp; Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas. &nbsp;

Survivors include:&nbsp; her husband, Rick Schmidt, La Crosse, Kansas; one son, Scott Schmidt (Anne), Lenexa, Kansas; two daughters, Kelly Torrey (Jason), Salina, Kansas, and Kerri Tuzicka (Nate), La Crosse, Kansas; six grandchildren, Madeleine Schmidt, Leah Torrey, Tyson Torrey, Greyson Tuzicka, Braxton Tuzicka, and Hadley Tuzicka; and two brothers, Daryl “PeeWee” Reifschneider, La Crosse, Kansas, and Bruce Reifschneider (Bernie), La Crosse, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be Sunday, August 30, 2020, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.&nbsp;

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.&nbsp; Interment will be in the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse, Kansas.&nbsp; Because of the current challenges the world is facing at the present time, the mass and interment will be private, immediate family only.&nbsp;

David Pat Spicer, aka D. Pat Spicer, died August 22, 2020 in Hays, KS.

Pat was born in Hays on September 27, 1951 to William A. and Annabelle M. Spicer.

Pat grew up in Phillipsburg, KS and 
graduated from Phillipsburg High School. He attended Fort Hays State 
University majoring in math. While there he met Kathy L. McAfee. They 
married on December 31, 1976, and had been married over 43 years at the 
time of his passing.

Pat had an insatiable thirst for 
knowledge. He loved researching things, and once he bought a computer in
 the early 1990's there was no stopping him. Further, he remembered what
 he read. He was literally a walking, talking encyclopedia. And, in 
spite of his wealth of knowledge, he was not in the least arrogant. 
Family, friends, and acquaintances frequently sought him out for 
information and to clarify what they might not understand. He could 
explain complex things in simple, logical terms.

Pat was a designer, an inventor, a 
builder, who was a perfectionist in all he did. In the late 70's, early 
80's Pat designed and manufactured his own microwave satellite dishes 
(antennas). He took one of them to the McDonnell Douglas Test Range near
 St. Louis, and its accuracy received exceptionally high marks. The 
engineers were amazed by the accuracy of the hand laid up microwave 
antenna.

As antenna technology changed, Pat 
switched to other composite manufacturing. He subcontracted to Rans 
Corporation, helping with the design and building of many of the 
aircraft parts.

Always interested in plants, Pat 
thoroughly enjoyed organic gardening during his retirement. Neighbors 
and friends looked forward to his produce freely shared every summer. 
Cherry tomatoes were his specialty.

In addition to his wife Kathy, Pat is 
survived by a sister, Linda Almon, a brother and sister-in-law, Michael 
and Pam Spicer, and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Karen and Ken 
Ross as well as several nieces and nephews. Also special to Pat was 
Diana Acosta, the foreign exchange student he and Kathy hosted during 
the 95-96 school year.

A private memorial service is planned 
and will be streamed live for public viewing this Saturday, August 29, 
2020 on Celebration Community Church’s Facebook page. Memorials are 
suggested to The Charles E. Holman Foundation for continuing research in
 Morgellons Disease, in care of Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.

Arthur Lee Dirks, age 76, of Taunton, Massachusetts, passed away 
peacefully on August 10, 2020. He was the beloved husband of 52 years to
 Diane (Keegan) Dirks, father to daughter, Kristin Dirks of Monroe, OR.,
 beloved older brother to Dana (Dirks) Metcalfe of Tallahassee FL, and 
Renee (Dirks) Rowcliffe of Colorado Springs CO; and uncle to Mathew 
Metcalf, Manda (Metcalfe) Payne, and Heather (Rowcliffe) Wagner. 
 Arthur was born in Newton, Kansas, to Arthur Wilbur Dirks and Martha 
Adeline (Woods) Dirks. He served in the army from 1962 to 1965, as a 
Polish interpreter in Germany during the cold war. From 1966-1973, he was
 a TV weather man at KAYS, a news director at KLWN and a newsman at KWBB
 where he won the Kansas Bar Association Award for his editorials. 
 Arthur earned a BA from Fort Hays State in Speech / Communications 
(1971), a MA in Theatre at University of Kansas (1974), a MFA in Theatre
 at Illinois State University (1980), an EdD Higher Education Admin. at 
University of Massachusetts Boston (2001). A placard above 
Arthur's desk at work read: "Even Babe Ruth struck out 1300 times" — a
 reminder to keep trying, to not fear failure and to not be 
overconfident when success arrives. Starting in 1973, Arthur taught for
 41 years in Theatre, Dance, and Speech Communications, and designed 
sets for over 135 theatrical productions. He served 2 years as acting 
Dean of School of Arts &amp; Sciences and about 10 years as department 
chairperson at Bridgewater State University. Arthur was active with 
professional organizations: New England Theatre Conference (NETC), US 
Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT), and American College of 
Theatre Festival (ACTF). He also was active in community theatre, West 
Hartford Summer Arts Festival, Mac-Haydn Theatre in Chatham NY, and the 
Illinois Shakespeare Festival. Arthur loved music from many 
genres. He and his wife Diane maintained a large music library, creating
 eclectic collections. After retiring in 2014, Arthur focused on 
genealogical research and published books about the Dirks-Woods and the 
Keegan-Morford sides of the family. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private celebration of life will be held later in the year.

Belinda Kay Bernhardt died unexpectedly in in her home on August 25, 2020, in Smith Center, Kansas, at the age of 65. 
 Belinda was born on November 30, 1954, in Hannibal, Missouri. Her 
family remembers her as a unique and old soul who encouraged them to be 
themselves in life, rather than being content with fitting in. Belinda 
was accomplished at living freely and often had many wild stories to 
tell. She was a unique individual who loved being a “hippie” at heart 
and who was passionate about her loved ones.
 Belinda is survived by son, Frank Hollenback of Manitou, CO.; 
granddaughter, Brionna Hollenback of Smith Center, Kansas; Grandson, 
Chris Hoferica of Chicago, IL; Grandson, Mason Bannister of Grand 
Island, NE; Nicole Pirotte of Phillipsburg, KS; Shylin Bannister of 
Phillipsburg, KS; and Alexis Chavez of Wichita, KS. Belinda is also 
survived by two great granddaughters, Kynlee Pirotte of Phillipsburg, 
KS; and Zayva Beach of Wichita, KS. 
 She is preceded in death by son Robert Bannister, JR ; son Clyde Bannister; and son Raymond Bannister. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, August 28th, 2020 at 4:00PM, at The Shepherd’s Table.

Barbara Jean Flegler, 85, of Billings, Montana, and longtime Russell, Kansas, resident, died on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at the Hanson Cottage at St. John’s United in Billings, Montana.

Barbara was born on July 05, 1935, in El Dorado, Kansas, the daughter of Clyde and Treva Copeland.  At a young age Barbara and her family moved to Russell, Kansas, and graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1953.  She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Vernon “Dean” Flegler on August 10, 1958, in Russell.  From this union, Barbara and Dean were blessed with 3 children Rick, Connie and Alan.  Barbara worked as a full time homemaker, taking care of her growing family.  She was a very spiritual and active person and enjoyed teaching bible study and Sunday school, visiting with people shut in their homes and enjoying coffee time with her friends.  She also enjoyed reading, yard work and spending time with her family, especially her grandkids and great grandkids.

Surviving family include her son Alan Flegler and longtime companion Darnell of Billings, Montana; sisters Glenna Thompson of Phillipsburg, Kansas and Karen Steinle of Springfield, Missouri; 2 grandkids Fanisha Flegler and Jon Golbek and 5 great grandkids Easton, Jett &amp; Finley Esfeld, Jonathan and Lily Golbek.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dean on January 27, 2014, son Rick Flegler, daughter Connie Golbek, grandson Clint Flegler and brother Jim Copeland.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, August 27, 2020, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas, with Pastor Jim Alexander officiating. Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell, Kansas.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at the mortuary. Branden Trimmer, born November 28, 1972, grew up in Casper, Wyoming, 
where he played football and wrestled. After graduating, Branden went 
straight to work. He later attended college and worked in the oil field.
 Branden loved playing golf and had a huge passion for sports. Brenden 
enjoyed his time with his only son, Michael and his wife of three years,
 Virginia. 
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Trimmer; son, Michael and siblings, Ivy Holmes, Kenneth Trimmer and Harley Trimmer. 
Branden had a heart of gold and was very passionate for our Lord Jesus 
Christ! He will forever be missed and always loved by all who knew him. 
Branden was 47 years old when the Lord called him home on August 17,

Branden Paul Trimmer

Richard Lee “Dick” Weaver, age 84, of Hays, Kansas died Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. He was born March 23, 1936, in Hays, Kansas to Celestine John and Jeanne Marie (Ingram) Weaver. He married Kay (Wickham) on May 26, 1956, in Hays, Kansas.

He served in the United States Navy from September of 1955 to retiring in September of 1975. Active duty saw him in Norfolk, VA onboard the cargo ship, USS Betelgeuse (AK 260), the Operational Testing and Evaluation Command, the Amphibious Forces and the Naval Air force. He served the Joint Task Force EIGHT, the Nuclear Testing Command conducting experiments near Christmas Island in 1962. He later transferred to Johnson Island and then back to Washington, DC for duty with the Defense Intelligence Agency in the Pentagon. He then joined the USS NEW JERSEY (BB62), during the Vietnam Conflict. After that, he reported to the US Army Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, KS, and then the USS RAMSEY (FFG 2) until his retirement.

At Fort Leavenworth, he became involved with the Cub Scouts as a Den Leader and later as Cubmaster for the Webelo’s Troop. He moved to Long Beach, and became involved with the Boy Scouts working his way thru the troop committees to Assistant Scoutmaster and finally Scoutmaster of Troop 101 in Hays, after he retired from the Navy. He worked for the State of Kansas Surplus Property Store in Hays and then in Topeka for a few years.

He grew up in Ellis, he was a 1955 graduate of Ellis High School, and moved to Hays in 1975. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Ellis V.F.W., the Disabled American Veterans, and the National Association of Atomic Veterans.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Weaver, of the home; one son, David Weaver and wife, Hsin-Yen Yang, Hays, KS; two daughters, Kim Dechant and husband, Paul, Hays, KS; Perri Lantz, Hays, KS; three sisters, Marge Weber, Boone, IA; Elizabeth Pinney, Hays, KS; Lucille Quinby, Hays, KS; one sister-in-law, Roxanne Weaver, Sheridan, WY; four grandchildren, Charissa Hurt (Karl), Christopher Dechant (Sarah), Ethan Lantz and (Emily Henderson), Garrett Dechant; five great grandchildren, Shelby Hurt, Casey Hurt, Brittney Hurt, Adler Dechant and Ogden Dechant.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, LeRoy Weaver and Paul Weaver; two sisters, Agatha Weaver and Evelyn Wickham.

A private family graveside service was held on Friday, August 21, 2020, at Mount Allen Cemetery, Hays, Kansas. Military honors were conducted by the Hays V.F.W. Post #9076.

The family suggests memorial to Disabled American Veterans.

Wayne Richard Fischer, 50, died 
Tuesday, August 11, 2020 in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born August 6, 
1970 in WaKeeney, KS to Larry “Rich” and Gloria (Hagan) Fischer.&nbsp;

He is survived by his mother Gloria 
Adkins, Junction City; a sister Michelle Callahan; nieces Krista and 
Jennifer Kingery, Jennifer and Rachael Callahan, nephew Robert Kingery, 
Jr.; uncles-Henry, Donald, John, Dean, Dahna Jr., Rodger, and Gary 
Fischer, Greg, and Corky Hagan; aunts-Beulah (Fischer) McElroy, 
Bernadine (Fischer) Linden, Elizabeth (Fischer) Weber, Connie (Hagan) 
Hinds, great nieces, great nephews and many cousins.

Wayne was fortunate for many years to 
live and be cared for by his aunt Connie Hinds and cousin Doug 
Wilkerson.&nbsp;Wayne worked as a housekeeping aide for nursing homes earlier
 in life. He enjoyed racing his remote-controlled cars, riding his bike,
 going for walks, to the movies with his mother and was always ready to 
go fishing. He loved animals, country music and spending time with his 
family and friends, especially if it involved food. Wayne was always 
willing to help with household chores and loved being responsible for 
making the morning coffee.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his Father,
 Larry Fischer, who died in an auto accident April 22, 1989; his sisters
 Cynthia Kingery and Melissa Trent; grandparents Dahna and Mathilda 
Fischer and Virgil and Velma Hagan; uncle David Fischer and aunt 
Margaret Fischer.

Memorial services will be held 
Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 1:00 at St. John Lutheran Church, 394 St. 
John-St. Andrew Rd. in Ellis, with Pastor Kim Frederking officiating. 
Burial will be held immediately following the service at St. John’s 
Lutheran Cemetery.

Wayne Richard Fischer

Glenn Leroy Keith 83, died August 22, 2020 in Norton. He was born June 
1, 1937. He graduated from Morland High School in 1956 and then went to 
college at Fort Hays State College graduating with a Bachelor of Science
 Degree. He taught Biology in Osage City and later moved back home to 
help on the family farm. He was united in marriage to Mary Ann 
Richmeier September 2, 1972, at St. Peter, Kansas. Their marriage 
brought five children to the family: Jodi, Jennifer, Megan, Ryan, and 
Adam. 
 Glenn was a meticulous craftsman by nature. As an accomplished 
carpenter he created a very successful business, Keith Construction. He 
built many homes and completed remodeling projects throughout Graham 
County and surrounding areas. He especially enjoyed making wood 
projects for the grandkids and could fix anything! Glenn was a devoted 
family man to his wife, children, and grandchildren. His family 
well-being was always his top priority. When his children called to 
check up on him, he would switch the conversation to them and the 
grandkids, making sure everyone was doing OK. 
 Glenn’s health began to decline nine years ago. Since then he has 
struggled on and off with his health while always maintaining a positive
 attitude. He tackled each health situation with determination and 
persistence. His devoted and loving wife, Mary Ann, was always by his 
side through his health journey and is a true, loving, caregiver at 
heart. His struggles eventually took him to the Andbe Home in Norton 
three weeks ago. He was determined to gain enough strength and mobility 
to be able to return home. The family was told multiple times by staff 
at the Andbe Home that he was a true gentleman, and a great patient. As
 his condition further deteriorated, he did not lose the battle; the 
battle lost him!
 Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, and his infant son Ryan.
 Leaving to mourn his passing are his wife Mary Ann of the home; 
children: Jennifer and her husband Terry Williams, of Hill City, Jodi 
and her husband Justin Rohr, of Gypsum, Megan and her husband Nathan 
Hart, of Bogue, and Adam Keith and his wife, Jennifer, of Larned: 
grandchildren: Madison and Abby Williams, Brooke, Adyson and Caleb Rohr,
 Ella, Eva, Ean and Ethan Hart, Calvin, Mylee, Maggie and Baby Boy Keith
 to arrive this December.

William Eugene Bryan, of Plainville, passed away on Monday, August 24, 
2020, at the age of 55 at Hays Medical Center in Hays, KS. 

He was born on
 August 15, 1965, to James and Leanna (Black) Bryan in Oberlin, Kansas. 
He was blessed with a son, Dustin, and later took in his grandchild to 
raise when she was just a baby, Rose Morales, who they loving nicknamed 
Peanut.
 William was born and raised in Oberlin. He graduated from Decatur 
Community Senior High School with the class of 1984. After his 
graduation he went to Norwest Kansas Vo-tech school for auto-body and 
later relocated to Plainville where he spent the remainder of his years.
 He worked for Wilkens Manufacturing until his disablement. In 
Plainville, he met and fell in love with his 17 year-long partner, Ruth 
Drummond. He loved spending time with his daughter Peanut, the 
grandkids, and centering his jokes around Ruth. He loved the outdoors, 
fishing, and hunting. He also had a lot of fun with demo derbies and 
working on vehicles. William was known for his selective hearing, his 
stubbornness, and humor.
 William is preceded in death by his second wife, Connie Bryan; 
grandparents, Eldon and Mildred Black, and Dale Bryan; step-daughter, 
Rebecca Drummond; and uncle Robert Bryan.
 He is survived by his partner Ruth Drummond of the home; children, 
Dustin Bryan of Salina, and “Peanut” Rose of the home; step –children, 
Noel Morales of Hays, KS and Savannah Tollefsrud of Tampa, FL; parents,

William Eugene Bryan

Betty F. Martindale (Wilkerson) was born on September 27, 1927, in Martinez, CA and passed from this world on August 20, 2020, in Oklahoma City, OK.

She was the youngest of 6 children born to Earl Lavanda Wilkerson and Cella Arthesia Wilkerson (Gallagher).

She graduated from Alhambra High School in Martinez in 1945. In August of the same year, she married Arrell Dean Martindale, after his return from the war. They raised 6 children in the next 17 years, traveling wherever the Army sent them. Retiring from the military in 1967, they moved permanently to Dean’s hometown of Phillipsburg, KS, where they lived until 2016 when poor health caused them to relocate.

Betty was a homemaker and her family meant everything to her. She worked part-time at the Mark V motel for 10 years. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She loved music of all kinds, but especially enjoyed the old gospel hymns she was raised on.

She was preceded in death by Dean, her beloved husband of 71 years, her parents and 5 siblings, her daughter Chris, her grandson Justin, her granddaughter Stephanie, and son-in-law Alancy.

She leaves behind 5 children: Joe of Salina, KS, Dean, Jr. and wife Pam of Oklahoma City, Patrick and wife Jean of Oklahoma City, Nicki Price of Shawnee, KS, and Roy and wife Sandra of Oklahoma City, 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Cremation was planned.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2020, at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.  The services will be streamed live on Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page. 

Friends may sign the guest book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, September 18 at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel.

She loved music of all kinds, but especially enjoyed the old gospel hymns she was raised on.She was preceded in death by Dean, her beloved husband of 71 years, her parents and 5 siblings, her daughter Chris, her grandson Justin, her granddaughter Stephanie, and son-in-law Alancy.She leaves behind 5 children: Joe of Salina, KS, Dean, Jr. and wife Pam of Oklahoma City, Patrick and wife Jean of Oklahoma City, Nicki Price of Shawnee, KS, and Roy and wife Sandra of Oklahoma City, 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.Cremation was planned. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2020, at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg. The services will be streamed live on Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page. Friends may sign the guest book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, September 18 at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel.Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Christ.

Betty F. Martindale (Wilkerson)

Robert Fremont Ingersoll, 91, passed away August 23, 2020, at 
Brookdale Senior Living, Great Bend. He was born on March 28, 1929, at 
Claflin, to Edward &amp; Martha (Piel) Ingersoll. He married Eileen 
Rauth, on August 4, 1951 at St. Petersburg, Fla. She survives.

Bob was the owner of Ingersoll’s Auto Trim and Upholstery. He was a 
member of the First United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge, American Legion
 Argonne Post #180, ROMEOs, a former Boy Scout troop #117 leader, and an
 Argonne Rebel supporter. He enjoyed camping and boating with his family
 and friends. He had a giving heart and this was shown by giving back to
 his community in many ways, one of which was him volunteering at 
Central Care Cancer Center. Bob served in the United States Air Force 
during the Korean conflict and received a Quilt of Valor for his 
service. He served as Commander of American Legion Argonne Post #180 
from 1989 to 1990.

Survivors include, his wife Eileen Ingersoll, of the home; a son, 
Steve Ingersoll and wife Lori of Topeka; two daughters, Cindy Rodie and 
husband Bruce of Hoisington, and Karen Boles and husband Greg of 
Wichita; six grandchildren, Adam Ingersoll and wife Eva, Douglas 
Ingersoll, Nolan Ingersoll and wife Erin, Ryan Rodie, Kaitlyn (Rodie) 
Pearson and husband Jacob, and Austin Boles; and one great grandchild 
due in December. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, 
Damon Ingersoll; and two sisters, Margaret Butler, and Mary Patterson.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 26,
 2020 at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 6:00 
to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, August
 27, 2020, at First United Methodist Church in Great Bend, with Pastor 
Morita Truman presiding. Please enter through the preschool entrance on 
the North side. The family encourages those attending to wear masks and 
social distance. Interment will be in the Claflin Cemetery, Claflin, at 
4:00 p.m., with Military Rites conducted by the United States Air Force.
 Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church or
