Joseph P. 'Joe' Werth

Joseph P. “Joe” Werth, 84, Hays, died Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at Via Christi Village.

He was born January 13, 1936 in Park, Kansas, the son Robert and Theresa (Werth) Werth.  Joe was a graduate of Park High School in the class of 1953. On April 3, 1956 he was united in marriage to Agnes Kaiser at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Park, and they celebrated 64 years of marriage.  He was retired from motel sales and operation and enjoyed his farm ground, landscaping, and woodworking, making cribs and changing tables for his great grandchildren.  His memberships included Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #6984, and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Bishop Cunningham Assembly.

Survivors include his wife Agnes, of the home in Hays, a son; Stephen Werth and wife Mary of Paola, two daughters; Patricia Hafer and husband Roger of League City, TX and Jolene Werth of Overland Park, three brothers; Marcellus Werth and wife Saundra of Wichita, Marvin Werth of Wichita, and Jerry Werth of Aztec, NM, a sister; Irene Flax of Wright, a sister-in-law; Freida Werth of Wichita, six grandchildren; Lee Hafer, Justin Hafer, Tyler Werth and wife Nicole, Natalie Thiessen and husband Tyler, Andrew Werth, and William Werth, a step granddaughter; Jessica Blanc and husband Jordan, eight great grandchildren; Laine, Meryl, and Everett Werth, Kade, Avery, and Henry Thiessen, Archer Werth, and Marleigh Hafer, and two step great grandchildren; Ember and Stella Blanc.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Cyril and Edwin Werth, three sisters; Genevieve Weis, Hermina Weis, and Herlinda Small, and a granddaughter; Jennifer Hafer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Monday, September 21, 2020 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with Fr. Nick Parker and Fr. Alvin Werth officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Sunday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Monday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. The Bishop Cunningham Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard from 5:30 pm until 6:30, a vigil service will be at 6:30 pm, followed by a combined Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus rosary, all on Sunday at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church Building Fund or for masses.  Condolences and memories of Joe may be shared with the family at www.haysmemorial.com
