Lillian M. (Dreiling) Schumacher

Lillian M. (Dreiling) Schumacher, age 87, of Victoria, Kansas, died Friday, September 11, 2020, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.  She was born June 14, 1933, in Victoria, Kansas, to Leo J. and Albina  (Jacobs) Dreiling.  She married Leland H. Schumacher on November 5, 1962, in Victoria, Kansas. He preceded her in death on August 2, 2014.

She was a homemaker, a member of The Basilica of St. Fidelis and Daughters of Isabella all of Victoria.  She grew up in the Catharine and Victoria area, and was a 1951 graduate of Girls Catholic High School.  She made her home in Victoria until moving to St. John’s/Via Christi Village Care Center in 2013.  Lillian enjoyed gardening, baking, canning, and traveling on many bus tours across the United States. 

Lillian was often recognized for her many charitable efforts in and around the area. She was a recipient of the TMP-Marian 2014 Point of Light award for her commitment to catholic education. Her generosity to health care included Hays Medical Center Foundation, and the opening of the Lillian Schumacher Therapy Center at St. John’s/Via Christi Village Care Center. 

Lillian was the last living sibling of ten children. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Leo Francis Dreiling, John G. Dreiling, Thomas Dreiling; twin infant brothers, Virgil John and Frederick Joseph Dreiling; and four sisters, Anita Feltis, Irene Kippes, Shirley Gross, and one infant sister, Lillian Margaret Dreiling. Survivors include numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to The Basilica of St. Fidelis or TMP-Marian High School in care of the mortuary  

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, a mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date at The Basilica of St. Fidelis.  Inurnment will be in St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria, Kansas.
