Former Phillipsburg resident Donna M. Pflieger passed away July 11, 2020, at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka at the age of 82.&nbsp; She was born Jan 5, 1938, in Agra, KS the daughter of Lloyd &amp; Berniece (McCready) Gruwell.

Survivors include her daughter, Sherri Wark of Topeka; brother, Luroy Gruwell of Republican City, NE; sisters, Beulah Schriner of Dodge City &amp; Mary Blubaugh of Topeka; 3 grandchildren &amp; 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 16 at 10:00 a.m. in the First Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Ben Ockree officiating. The service will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page. &nbsp; Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 9:00 Wednesday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel.&nbsp;

Logan resident Joyce Eckhart, age 92, passed away Thursday, July 9th at the Logan Manor, Logan, Kansas.

Roy Dean Hargadine, 69, passed away unexpectedly July 11, 2020 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, KS.

He was born August 15, 1950 in Greensburg, KS, the son of Curtis Leroy and Emma Faye (Sloan) Hargadine. &nbsp;

Roy graduated from Mullinville High School with the Class of 1968.&nbsp; 
He then got his BS in education from Fort Hays State in 1973.&nbsp; After 
graduation he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Thompson, on 
August 5, 1972.&nbsp; They spent that summer in Dodge City, KS where he 
taught Drivers Ed.&nbsp; He accepted a teaching job at Tribune, KS and taught
 Physical Education, Drivers Ed and coached. In 1974 they moved to 
Jetmore so they both could teach.&nbsp; He taught Junior High Science and 
Social Studies for 31 years.&nbsp; Upon retirement he went from teacher to 
school board member where he could still utilize his love for kids and 
education. He also spent 6 years teaching virtually.

Roy’s first love was hunting and enjoying the outdoors.&nbsp; He hunted 
caribou in the Arctic, bear in Canada, plains game and cape buffalo in 
Africa, doves in Argentina, coyotes, deer and pheasant in Hodgeman and 
Kiowa counties.&nbsp; If he couldn’t hunt, he could be found at the Jetmore 
Shooting Range where he enjoyed target shooting.

He was an EMT instructor, Hunter Safety Instructor, on the city lake 
and gun range board, member of the NRA, and an avid gun collector.&nbsp; Roy 
loved all kinds of guns, but liked to collect the odd ball ones.

Roy spent many summers working as a National Park Ranger at Fort 
Larned and Rocky Mountain in tundra rescue at Estes Park, CO.&nbsp; He loved 
history and loved to put on programs for any age group.

He was preceded in death by his father, Curt and brother, Rex Allen 
Hargadine.&nbsp; Survivors include, his wife, Shirley of the home, his 
mother, Emma Faye Hargadine, Hill Top House, Bucklin, KS; sister in 
laws, brother in laws, cousins, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place.&nbsp; Celebration of Roy’s life will be 9:30 
a.m. Thursday at United Presbyterian Church, Jetmore and live streamed 
via Facebook at www.facebook.com/beckwithmortuary with officiant John 
Knapp presiding.&nbsp; Friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 8

Gerald “Gary” Lee Berens, 76, of Colby, died Friday, July 10, 2020 at 
Kearney Regional Medical Center, Kearney, NE. 

He was born May 27, 1944, 
in Colby, KS, to Wendell and Anna (Weigel) Berens. Gary graduated from 
Gem High School in 1962 and worked for Duckwall’s. In 1963, Gary 
entered the United State Air Force. He proudly served his country for 4 
years. Upon exiting the service, he returned working for Duckwall’s, 
managing several locations. Gary then moved back to Colby to work a 
business with his father and brother. He later went to work as a power 
plant maintenance operator for the City of Colby, where he worked for 30
 years. During his time in Colby, Gary also served as a reserve police 
officer and was a member of the Colby American Legion. In his pastime, 
he enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Gary loved his Lord and Savior Jesus
 Christ. Gary attended the Celebration Community Church and was a 
member of the Kansas Prayer Network. He lovingly invested his time in 
family and people. He especially loved any time he got to spend with his
 grandchildren. 
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Gerald Lee, Jr., 
Michael David and Justin Emmons; grandson Joshua Berens and brothers, 
David and Edmond. 
He is survived by his wife, Marsha Berens, of Colby; children, David

Gerald 'Gary' Lee Berens

Patty (Windholz) Kuhn, age 61, of 
Omaha, NE went to heaven on Friday, July 10, 2020.&nbsp; Patty’s life began 
on February 7, 1959 in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; She was the sixth of ten children 
born to Ralph Sr. and Mary Ann (Schumacher) Windholz.&nbsp; &nbsp;Patty was joined
 in marriage to Louis Kuhn, Jr. on April 15, 1978 in Victoria, Kansas.

After marrying they lived in Colorado 
Springs, CO; South Korea; Salina, KS; Sergeant Bluff, IA; Sioux City, 
IA; and Omaha, NE.&nbsp; They were blessed with a daughter, Michelle Davis.

She grew up and attended school in 
Victoria, Kansas and was a 1977 graduate of Victoria High School.&nbsp; &nbsp;As a
 youngster Patty enjoyed playing softball, swimming, going on hikes with
 her sisters and neighbors and bike riding.&nbsp; She also enjoyed playing 
board games, doing search word puzzles and was always up for a friendly 
card game, with Crazy 8’s being one of her favorites.&nbsp; On top of all of 
this she loved spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, mother-in-law, Lorene “Renie” (Engel) Kuhn, and sister-in-law, Renee Kuhn.

Survivors include her husband, Louie of
 the home; a daughter, Michelle and husband Josh Davis of Denver, CO; 
father-in-law, Louis Kuhn, Sr. of Hays, KS; step-mother, Millie 
Windholz, of Victoria, KS; three brothers, Julius (Susie) Windholz of 
Victoria, KS; Ralph Jr. (Ginny) Windholz of Salina, KS; and Mike 
(Melissa) Windholz of Louisburg, KS; six sisters, Wanda (Jerry) Klaus 
and Connie Windholz both of Victoria, KS; Paula (Bill) Thomas, Mary 
(Mike) Marshall, and Margaret Kay all of Salina, KS; Dotty (Dale) 
Legleiter of Munjor, KS;&nbsp; three sisters-in-law, Jackie Kuhn of Topeka,

Patty (Windholz) Kuhn

Longtime Goodland, Kansas, resident Suzanne Simpson McClure, 61, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2020, at the Rose Medical Center in Denver, CO.

Suzanne was born on May 7, 1959, in Tulia, Texas to John N. and Helen Rose (McCasland) Simpson, Jr. She was the younger of two children. Suzanne grew up and attended school in Tulia and graduated from Tulia High School in 1977. She then went on to further her education at Texas Tech University and earned a degree in Business Administration and Management from Austin Community College.

On June 30, 1991, Suzanne married Michael Scott McClure in Vail, Colorado. To this union, one son, Michael Scott McClure II, was born. During their years in Vail, Suzanne and Mike owned and operated two successful fine art galleries. In February 2014, Suzanne and Mike moved to Goodland to reconnect with family and help his father with McClure Plumbing &amp; Heating, Inc. At this time, Suzanne began her career with the City of Goodland as Director of the Chamber of Commerce, and Sherman County as Economic Development Director. Suzanne helped establish the City of Goodland Welcome Center. Through hard work and visionary leadership, Suzanne helped launch numerous civic projects. She truly enjoyed her job, her co-workers, and promoting the City of Goodland and Sherman County.&nbsp;

Serving the community and volunteering were very important to Suzanne. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Goodland, the local P.E.O. chapter, Alpha Chi Omega sorority, and the Seven Sisters. Suzanne served on the Goodland Arts Council, the Topside Manor board, the board of the Goodland Convention and Tourism Bureau, and was a member of the Goodland Ambassadors and the Goodland Rotary.&nbsp;

Suzanne had a lifelong love and appreciation of the fine arts and enjoyed collecting special art pieces. She also loved music and played the French horn in her school band and the piano and organ throughout her life. Suzanne liked to travel, but one of her favorite destinations was nearby Lake McConaughy in Nebraska, where she spent many weekends relaxing. Most of all, Suzanne enjoyed spending time with treasured family and friends.&nbsp;

Suzanne has been described as a bright star with an infectious laugh, a sweet ray of sunshine who would brighten the day with a smile and kind word, a generous, beautiful soul who loved intensely and made everything more fun. She affected many lives and will be missed by all who knew her.

Preceding her in death were her parents, John and Helen Simpson, an infant son, Garrett Michael, and her father-in-law, J.B. McClure III.

Suzanne is survived by her husband, Mike, of the home in Goodland, one son, Scott McClure, of Vail, Colorado, her sister, Camille (Ken) Redding, of Grand Junction, Colorado, and her mother-in-law, Judith McClure, of Goodland. She also is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Memorial services will be announced at a later date.

 </figure>Longtime Goodland, Kansas, resident Suzanne Simpson McClure, 61, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2020, at the Rose Medical Center in Denver, CO.Suzanne was born on May 7, 1959, in Tulia, Texas to John N. and Helen Rose (McCasland) Simpson, Jr. She was the younger of two children. Suzanne grew up and attended school in Tulia and graduated from Tulia High School in 1977. She then went on to further her education at Texas Tech University and earned a degree in Business Administration and Management from Austin Community College.On June 30, 1991, Suzanne married Michael Scott McClure in Vail, Colorado. To this union, one son, Michael Scott McClure II, was born. During their years in Vail, Suzanne and Mike owned and operated two successful fine art galleries. In February 2014, Suzanne and Mike moved to Goodland to reconnect with family and help his father with McClure Plumbing &amp; Heating, Inc. At this time, Suzanne began her career with the City of Goodland as Director of the Chamber of Commerce, and Sherman County as Economic Development Director. Suzanne helped establish the City of Goodland Welcome Center. Through hard work and visionary leadership, Suzanne helped launch numerous civic projects. She truly enjoyed her job, her co-workers, and promoting the City of Goodland and Sherman County.&nbsp;Serving the community and volunteering were very important to Suzanne. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Goodland, the local P.E.O. chapter, Alpha Chi Omega sorority, and the Seven Sisters. Suzanne served on the Goodland Arts Council, the Topside Manor board, the board of the Goodland Convention and Tourism Bureau, and was a member of the Goodland Ambassadors and the Goodland Rotary.&nbsp;Suzanne had a lifelong love and appreciation of the fine arts and enjoyed collecting special art pieces. She also loved music and played the French horn in her school band and the piano and organ throughout her life. Suzanne liked to travel, but one of her favorite destinations was nearby Lake McConaughy in Nebraska, where she spent many weekends relaxing. Most of all, Suzanne enjoyed spending time with treasured family and friends.&nbsp;Suzanne has been described as a bright star with an infectious laugh, a sweet ray of sunshine who would brighten the day with a smile and kind word, a generous, beautiful soul who loved intensely and made everything more fun. She affected many lives and will be missed by all who knew her.Preceding her in death were her parents, John and Helen Simpson, an infant son, Garrett Michael, and her father-in-law, J.B. McClure III.Suzanne is survived by her husband, Mike, of the home in Goodland, one son, Scott McClure, of Vail, Colorado, her sister, Camille (Ken) Redding, of Grand Junction, Colorado, and her mother-in-law, Judith McClure, of Goodland. Suzanne Simpson McClure

Mara K. Johnson went to live eternally with her Savior on July 11, 2020.
 &nbsp;She was born September 21, 1928 in Oberlin, Kansas to Mr. and Mrs. 
Earl Lawver. &nbsp;In 1946, she married Glenn Thaine Tice and they were 
married for eighteen years until Glenn’s passing in 1964. &nbsp;Later, she 
married Allen M. Johnson and Mara and Allen were together for over forty
 years until his passing in 2015. &nbsp;In 2016, Mara came out to live with 
her daughter, Dianne and her family in Colby ,Ks. &nbsp; 
Mara enjoyed gardening, sewing, remodeling, and cooking. &nbsp; Mara’s 
predominant interest and focus was on her family and her faith which 
carried her through 91 years of joys and challenges. Mara always had a 
good listening ear to her family and a strong resolve to help with any 
means needed, and we knew this resolve was always founded and guided in 
prayer. &nbsp;Mara had a strong foundation through her faith in Jesus Christ 
as her mother was an ordained minister. &nbsp; 
She is survived by her two daughters; Dianne (Barry) Kaaz of Colby, KS 
and Vicky McAtee of Manhattan, KS; three grandchildren, Tammy Plumisto 
of Rexford, KS, Glenn Kaaz of Colby, KS, and Daniel Trechter of 
Manhattan, KS; &nbsp;four great grandchildren, Valerie Fenske of Alamosa, CO,

Mara Katrina Johnson (Lawver)

Paul G. Winckler, 84, passed away Friday, July 10, 2020 at Ellsworth 
County Medical Center in Ellsworth, KS. He was born January 13, 1936 to
 Rev. Albert V. and Ruth (Heidemann) Winckler in rural Tampa, KS. Paul 
graduated high school from St. Johns Academy in Winfield, KS. He was 
united in marriage to Phyllis Rae Peterka on Sept. 1, 1957 at Bethlehem 
Lutheran Church in Sylvan Grove, KS. 
 Paul was a farmer and stockman his entire life and served as DHIA tester for 12 years
 He was very active in church and his community and held several 
church offices. Paul was also a member of Economic Development of 
Lincoln County; and was instrumental in getting the wind farms in 
Lincoln County. He was also a partner in Linco Commission Co. Paul 
passion for farming showed in his love for his chickens, cattle, and his
 two donkeys, Sammy and Sophie.
 Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Phyllis of the home; sons, 
David Paul Winckler, and Mark James (Liz) Winckler all of Sylvan Grove, 
KS; daughter, Diane Ruth (Nathan) Houseman of Savannah, GA; brother, 
James Albert (Janelle) Winckler of Lucas, KS; sisters, Mary Ruth (Garry)
 Chegwidden of Jefferson City, MO and Esther Ann Stinnett of Vienna, WV;
 three grandchildren, Michael James (Shannon) Winckler of Independence, 
MO, Kyle Sebastian (Tia) Houseman of Chicago, IL, and Jessica Nicole 
(Alex Winters) Winckler of Lincoln, KS; great grandson, Miles Albert

Penny Dorn, 75, of Kensington, KS passed away on Friday, July 10, 
2020 at the Parkview Care Center of Osborne, KS. &nbsp;She&nbsp;was born on June 
24, 1945 in Minden, NE to the late Dale &amp; Paula (Bales) Christensen.

She graduated from high school and furthered her education for 2 more
 years. &nbsp;She married Merle Dorn &amp; joined his family of four 
children.

Penny worked as a bookkeeper for a nursing home in Firth, NE. &nbsp;She was also a homemaker.

She has lived in Kensington, KS for the past 13 years and&nbsp;attended&nbsp;the United Methodist Church.

Penny is survived by her husband, Merle of the home; sons: Tim Dorn 
of Courtland, NE; Chad Dorn of Beatrice, NE; daughters: Debra Eagen of 
Axtel, KS; Joyce Bustamate of Lincoln, NE; sister: Sue Heller of

McCartney.&nbsp; She was also blessed with two great-great grandchildren, 
Luis Tobias Matute and Willow Mingo, and six nieces and nephews and 
their families. &nbsp;

Cremation was planned.&nbsp; A private memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 18th
 in the United Methodist Church, Logan, with Pastor Ted Stapleton 
officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery,

Connie Korbe, age 68, of Hays, Kansas 
died Thursday, July 9, 2020, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, 
Kansas.&nbsp; She was born August 19, 1951, in Plainville, Kansas to Harold 
M. and Gladys (Martin) Goble.&nbsp; She married Nicholas “Nick” Korbe Jr. on 
April 24, 1971, at Hays, Kansas.

She was a convenience store clerk for 
many years in Hays and Liberal, Kansas. She&nbsp;cooked for a few years at 
Kennedy Middle School and Hays High School.&nbsp; She also worked at Answer 
Net Telemarketing in Victoria and Hays for 9 years. She grew up in 
Plainville and Hays and was a 1970 graduate of Hays High School.&nbsp; She 
was a member of Hays Christian Church, and enjoyed fishing, camping and 
gardening.

Survivors include her husband, Nick 
Korbe, and one grandson, Christian Korbe, of the home; one son Nicholas 
“Nick” Korbe III and Sharon Weatherman, Virginia Beach, VA;&nbsp; three 
daughters, Barbara Williams and husband, John, Hays, KS; Alicia Gregory 
and husband, Ham, Russell, KS; Amanda Korbe, Wichita, KS; one brother 
Mervyn Goble and wife, Rosemary, WaKeeney, KS; two sisters, Gail Dobson 
and husband, Ray, Hays, KS; Maxine Wellbrock, Hays, KS; and six 
grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her 
parents; one daughter, Kerry Korbe; one brother, Florace Goble; and one 
brother-in-law, Louie Wellbrock.

Thelma G. Janssen, age 85, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at the Wichita County Heath Center in Leoti, Kansas.  She was born on January 27, 1935 in Bushton, Kansas, the daughter of Louis &amp; Alma G. Cook Novotny.  A resident of Leoti, Kansas since 1957 moving from California, she was a retired CNA.

On September 2, 1956 she married Gordon Kent Janssen in Lorraine, Kansas.  He survives.

Survivors include her Husband - Kent Janssen of Leoti, Kansas, Two Daughters - Kimberly Janssen of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Karol Janssen of San Francisco, California, One Brother - Stuart Novotny of Soloman, Kansas, Three Sisters - Karen Hoffman of Kansas City, Kansas, Judy Long of Wichita, Kansas, Leona Barkow of Ellsworth, Kansas, Three Grandchildren, and Two Great Grandchildren.

Alma Faye Whitson passed away July 11th, 2020, at Topside Manor in 
Goodland at the age of 87. She moved to Goodland from Nickerson, KS in 
2010.

She was born August 26, 1932, in Elk City, KS to Harvey Conrad Godsey and Julia Alma (Hawk) Godsey.

She married Clarence E. Whitson on April 8, 1949, in Bartlesville, OK. They had three sons, Eldon, Doug, and Rick.

After her children were older she worked as an accountant for an auditing firm for Kansas Co-ops until she retired in 1999.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence E. Whitson, two 
sons, Eldon E. Whitson Goodland and Rick L. Whitson Bennett, NE.

Faye is survived by son Doug Whitson and wife Pam (Cecil) Whitson, 
Goodland, KS, daughter-in-law Tammi Kemper-Whitson, Bennett, NE, five 
Grandchildren (Jill, Jason, Jennifer, Connie and Cody), and two Great 
Grandchildren (Keonnie and Cash).

There will be grave side services for Faye in Elk City, KS, date to be determined later.

Alma Faye Whitson

Paul Franklin Burk, 82, went to be with the Lord on July 8, 2020 
after a valiant battle with a long illness.&nbsp; He died at home in Overland
 Park, Kansas, in the care of Olathe Hospice and his loving wife and 
family.&nbsp; His devotion to his immediate and extended family and his 
unshakeable faith in Jesus Christ strengthened him and ultimately gave 
him peace.

Paul was born to Herman and Margaret Burk and grew up farming wheat 
and raising cattle with his three brothers and two sisters in western 
Kansas.&nbsp; His happiest childhood memory was when, at six years of age, 
his mother gave him a 22 Bolt-Action Stevens Rifle.&nbsp; He soon was able to
 accurately shoot ‘a sunflower stem waving in the wind’.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Paul was blessed with a large and loving family.&nbsp; He met and married 
Carolyn Henson while working in the emerging space industry in southern 
California in 1963.&nbsp; He traded in his Austin- Healey for a used Buick 
when their first child was born.&nbsp; They moved to Florida where he worked 
on the Apollo Missions developing the self-destruct relay for the Saturn
 V and where their second child was born.&nbsp; The family landed in Overland
 Park, KS by 1970 where they had three more children and would raise 
their big and boisterous crew.&nbsp; Carolyn passed away in 1996.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Paul was a servant leader at heart who walked with his Lord and 
savior Jesus Christ.&nbsp; He had attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, 
Illinois before earning his degree in electrical engineering at Kansas 
State University in Manhattan, KS in 1962.&nbsp; He earned his IEEE license, 
eventually gaining engineering licenses in every state west of the 
Mississippi and most of them to the east.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Paul’s core competence was competence.&nbsp; He could fix any machine.&nbsp; 
Solve any problem.&nbsp; He was a man of few words with a wry sense of humor 
and a competitive spirit.&nbsp; If you had the rare fortune of besting him in
 a game of Spades, you knew you earned it.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Paul was generous with his time and skills.&nbsp; He helped his family, 
friends and neighbors and rescued many a stranded traveler along I-70 
during his long drives between Overland Park and Goodland, where he 
farmed in his retirement.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In 2000, Paul married Gloria Craig Burk with whom he would happily 
spend the rest of his life.&nbsp; Paul and Gloria were active at Blue Valley 
Baptist Church and in the lives of their grandchildren.&nbsp; They travelled 
widely during their twenty wonderful years together.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate his 
extraordinary life and take comfort that he is at peace with his 
Creator.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Paul is survived by his wife, Gloria; his children Kathy Biggs, 
Connie Burk, Karen Burk, Justin Burk and Janette Burk; Gloria’s three 
children; their combined 23 beloved grandchildren; his siblings Lowell 
Burk, John Whitney Cameron and Virginia Burk; and many beloved nieces, 
nephews, and extended family members.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by wife Carolyn Henson Burk; his siblings 
Linda Belshe, Larry Burk and Vaughn Gene Burk; and his parents.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Paul will be buried at the Goodland Cemetery on Saturday, July 11th

David P. Holle, 69, of Osborne, KS, passed away on Wednesday, July 8,
 2020 at the Osborne County Memorial Hospital in Osborne, KS. &nbsp;He was 
born in Topeka, KS on February 3, 1951 to the late Lola (Hossler) and 
Fredrick Holle. &nbsp;

David graduated from high school and attended KSU. &nbsp;He became a business entrepreneur and owned several furniture stores.

David enjoyed hunting and fishing in his free&nbsp;time.

David is survived by daughters: Rosanna Holle of Columbia, MO; Megan

Lola Mary (Carswell) DeForest, 90, of Olathe, passed away on June 21,
 2020. &nbsp;She was born on July 29, 1929 to Edwin &amp; Juanita (Bloyd) 
Carswell in Alton, KS.

Lola grew up on a farm south of Alton, KS. &nbsp;She graduated from Alton 
High School in 1947, &amp; attended college where she obtained a 
certificate to teach school. &nbsp;She taught school in a one-room 
schoolhouse for a year before her marriage to Merle Eugene DeForest on 
May 19, 1948.

They farmed near Alton until the spring of 1951 when they moved back 
to the farm near Osborne, KS where Merle was born. &nbsp;When Merle died in 
1965, Lola took on the responsibility of providing for herself &amp; 3 
children. &nbsp;In addition to being a devoted mother, she worked as a 
cosmetologist, then as an office manager in the Osborne County Hospital,
 &amp; eventually as a certified medical aide until her retirement in 
1994. &nbsp;She then moved from Osborne to Wichita, KS where she moved in 
with her daughter, Bernice, in anticipation of Bernice's adoption of 
Sean.

Lola enjoyed life in many ways. &nbsp;She was able to find good church 
homes wherever she lived &amp; loved the fellowship of believers at 
Community Bible Church in Olathe, KS. &nbsp;She spent many happy hours going 
with her church friends to theaters &amp; going out to eat.

She especially loved spending time with her children &amp; 
grandchildren. &nbsp;She loved to bake pies, cinnamon rolls &amp; meals. &nbsp;She
 enjoyed crocheting, making many afghans for family members. &nbsp;She 
cherished traveling with Bernice to such places as Yellowstone National 
Park, Mount Rushmore, &amp; Washington, D. C.

She is survived by &nbsp;her 3 children: Marvin Ray DeForest &amp; his 
wife Debra; Allen Dale DeForest &amp; his wife Christine; &amp; Bernice 
Ann DeForest Averill &amp; her husband Glen. &nbsp;She is survived by 6 
grandchildren; David DeForest &amp; his wife Jeni, Carrie DeForest, Kyla
 DeForest, Cole DeForest &amp; his wife Robin, Sean Averill, Megan 
Averill, &amp; 6 great-grandchildren. &nbsp;Lola is also suvived by her 
sister, Verla LaRue; sister-in-law, Mary Jo Carswell, &amp; many loving 
nieces, nephews &amp; friends.

Lola was preceded in death by her husband, Merle Deforest; parents 
Edwin &amp; Juanita Carswell; brother, Richard Carswell; sister Retha

Merle F. Josefiak, 88, of Rush Center, Kansas passed away on July 9, 
2020. Merle was born on November 11, 1931. He was born to John and Edith
 (Wilhelm) Josefiak on their farm located southwest of Rush Center. He 
graduated in 1949 from La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas.

Merle and the former Maxine Renz were married October 25, 1951, at 
the Hope Lutheran Church in Rush Center by Rev. Ray Saathoff. He worked 
at Renz Oil Company for 20 years and at the Golden Belt Telephone 
Company for 22 years as a lineman, retiring in 1996.

Merle proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean 
conflict, aboard the USS Naifeh DE-352 from 1951–1955. He traveled to 
Japan, China, Korea and Hawaii during his years in the Navy. Following 
his retirement, Merle and Maxine traveled to numerous states across the 
country, attending Navy “Naifeh” shipmate Reunions.

Merle assisted in and led worship services, as lay preacher, at Hope 
Lutheran Church for many years. He held this opportunity very close to 
his heart.

Merle is survived by wife, Maxine; their two children, David Josefiak
 (Neil Sauder) of Wichita, Kansas, and Lynne Fahrney of Ponca City, 
Oklahoma,; three granddaughters; and six great-grandchildren.

Merle was preceded in death by both his parents; and sisters, Loretta Josefiak (infant), and Leola Seltmann.

Merle has been cremated and will be inurned in Locust Hill Cemetery, Rush Center.

Joel Michael Robinson, 66, Aurora, Colorado, died Saturday, July 4, 2020 unexpectedly at his home. 

He was born July 14, 1953 in Emporia, Kansas, the son of David Wallace and Shirley L. (Braum) Robinson.

Growing up in Hays, Joel was active in 
sports and musical activities, and he and his brother Greg started a 
summer program teaching tennis to youth. &nbsp;He was a member of the First 
Presbyterian Church. &nbsp;Joel graduated from Hays High School and Fort Hays
 State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. 

Joel's business career included retail 
management in Kansas and Arizona. He worked many years for Wells Fargo, 
and most recently as an express medical courier. Joel enjoyed reading, 
golf, tennis, and running. He had a high acumen for sports statistics. 
There were several years many of his siblings joined him in running the 
FHSU Alumni Homecoming 5k. 

Joel was known for his dry sense of 
humor, was kind, and had a generous heart and devotion to family. He 
willingly served as the primary caregiver for his older brother for 
several years.

Survivors include five brothers; David 
Robinson of Aurora, CO, Greg Robinson (Gloria) of Weckan, KS, Jamie 
Robinson (Mary) of Topeka, KS, Mark Robinson (Val) of Westminster, CO, 
and Phillip Robinson (Terry) of Aurora, CO, three sisters; Ruth Heffel 
(David) of Lee's Summit, MO, Sheryl Rogers (Leslie) and Sharon Irvin 
(John), all of McCracken, KS; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Irmina Juliana (Oswald) Dauber, 82, of Bunker Hill, Kansas, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2020 at her home.

Julie was born September 2, 1937 in Hays, Kansas. The daughter of Lloyd J. and Irma (Hoff) Oswald. Growing
 up she attended Blue Hill School in Ellis County, Kansas and graduated 
from Natoma High School. She then attended Ft. Hays State University 
where she received a Bachelor of Science in 1959 and a Master’s Degree 
in 1967.

Julie was a devoted Teacher for over 35 years. She worked eleven 
years at Gorham High School as Business Education Instruction then

of Education of USD 407. She worked with Pro-Bound Sports in Dorrance 
and was working towards a Pastoral Administrator Degree. She was a proud
 member of NEA, KNEA, RSNEA, NBEA, MPBEA, KBEA and Delta Kappa Gamma, 
serving in many different capacities. She belonged to the Kansas 
Livestock Association and the Kansas Beef Association. Julie was united 
in marriage to Joe Dauber, Jr. Joe preceded her in death on February 13,
 2003. She enjoyed being an events planning coordinator, facilitator for
 the Ad Astra Program, chairman of Bunker Hill Housing Block Grant, 
Russell County Fair Board Member, being a member of the Midwestern Polka
 club an elector for International Polka Hall of Fame located in 
Chicago, Illinois.

Surviving family include her stepson, Todd Dauber (Melissa) of Garden
 City, Kansas; step daughter, Trudy Line (Richard) of Leawood, Kansas; 
surrogate daughter, Melissa Ann Prosser of Oden, Kansas; seven step 
grandchildren, Addison Dauber (Susan), Brendon Dauber, Aubrey Dauber 
(Gabriel), Connor Line, Emily Line, Mallory Line and Natali Line.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Joe.

A Graveside Service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, July 14, 
2020 at Bunker Hill Cemetery in Bunker Hill, Kansas The family has

Irmina Juliana (Oswald) Dauber, 82, of Bunker Hill, Kansas, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2020 at her home.Julie was born September 2, 1937 in Hays, Kansas. The daughter of Lloyd J. and Irma (Hoff) Oswald. Growing
 up she attended Blue Hill School in Ellis County, Kansas and graduated 
from Natoma High School. She then attended Ft. Hays State University 
where she received a Bachelor of Science in 1959 and a Master’s Degree 
in 1967.Julie was a devoted Teacher for over 35 years. She worked eleven 
years at Gorham High School as Business Education Instruction then

Doris Lea Warta Hartwell passed away on July 4th, 2020, in Glendale, AZ,
 at the age of 94. Doris was born in Glasco, KS October 13th, 1925 to 
Dr. A H Shull and Margaret (Ludwig) Shull. She married Dr. Edmund L. 
Warta in 1946 and later moved to Atwood, KS where they raised their 
daughter Kristen and sons Mark and Alan. She belonged to Sacred Heart 
Catholic Church, of Atwood, for many years. 
Doris was preceded in death by husband Edmund in 1973. She was blessed 
to have married a second time to her husband Robert L. Hartwell who 
preceded her in death in 1976. Also preceding Doris in death was her 
beloved daughter Kristen Warta Schissler, in 2000. 
She is survived by sons, Dr. Mark Warta and Dr. Alan and wife Daren 
Warta; grandchildren Kara Warta, Kyle Schissler, Dr. Leigh Strecker, Dr.
 Trish Barton, Tara Sheets, Brett Warta, Dr. Maggie Hunsicker and Ben 
Warta and 16 great grandchildren. 
Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 16, 2020 at Sacred Heart 
Catholic Church, Atwood, with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass is 10:00
 a.m. Friday, July 17, 2020, also at the Church. Interment will take 
place in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Atwood.

Jerald J. Hadley, 80, passed away July 8, 2020 at the University of Kansas Health Systems Pawnee Valley Campus, Larned.

He was born March 15, 1940 in Ashland to Frank F. and Ida Mae Schumacher Hadley.

After being raised in Shallow Water, KS, Jerald attended McPherson 
College. Upon graduating college, he moved to Larned, Kansas, where he 
was a high school biology teacher, track coach, and a Fellowship of 
Christian Athletes sponsor. He was a member of New Jerusalem Church, 
Pawnee Rock, a Santa Fail Trail Center Museum board member and 
volunteer, member of the Jordaan Scholarship board, Larned Township 
board, and a past member of the Larned Country Club board.

On July 25, 1964 he married Karen Louise Bontrager at Shallow Water, KS, she survives.

Other survivors include: daughter, Kristina “Tina” Landon, Ellsworth;
 son, Eric (Paris Bouchard) Hadley, St. Charles, Missouri; sister, Janet
 (Dwayne) Lyles, Denver, Colorado; brother, Herald (Adrene) Hadley, 
Spokane, Washington; four grandchildren, Kassy (Gunner) Phelan, Kailee 
Landon (Christo Greyling), Michael Bouchard-Hadley, and Melany 
Bouchard-Hadley.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jill Hadley, and a sister, Carol Barker.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be 10:30 a.m.

Tina Denise (Wolf) Glendy, age 61, of WaKeeney, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2020.

&nbsp;She was born July 6, 1958, in Hill City, KS, to Anita June (Goff) and David Francis Wolf.

Tina married Glen Newell, and together they had three children. She was later united in marriage to Paul Glendy on December 2, 1994. They were married for 25 years. Tina was a devout member of the Ogallah Christian Church. She and her husband were directors and she was cook at Cedar Bluff Christian Service Camp from 2000 to 2003. She enjoyed attending church activities, serving elderly members of the community and visiting local nursing homes, cooking, and crocheting. Tina will be best remembered for singing and playing guitar, and her love of her family and her grandchildren.

Tina is survived by her husband; mother Anita Desbien; sons Derik Newell and Darin Newell; daughter Amber (Curt) Wagner; stepsons Adam (Wendy) Glendy and David (Tara) Glendy; stepdaughter Leah (Jeremy) Jech; seventeen grandchildren; brothers Terry Wolf, Rick (Joyce) Scott, and Dan (Marti) Scott; sisters Lorene (Gary) Wetzel, Deb Scott, and Linda (Roger) Clark. She is preceded in death by her father David Wolf and stepfather Elmond Scott.

A family hosted memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2020, at 10:30 AM at Ogallah Christian Church, with Pastor Shelby Crawford officiating.

Retired Sgt. First Class Troy M. Ozment, 47, died Wednesday, March 25, 2020.

 </figure>Retired Sgt. First Class Troy M. Ozment, 47, died Wednesday, March 25, 2020. Troy was born Oct. 11, 1972, to Jackson and Sherry Ozment at MTN Home AFB, Idaho. He was a decorated combat veteran who served his country in the U.S. Army as a 19D, Scout. His career spanned 20 years, during which he spent two tours in Iraq, where he received two Bronze Stars for his bravery in battle. His last deployment was with 3rd Brigade, 1/33 Cav. from Fort Campbell. He was proud to have served with his Rakkasan brothers. Troy retired in July 2012.Troy was a lifelong Kansas City Chiefs fan and thoroughly enjoyed watching them win the Super Bowl this past year. His hobbies included restoring his beloved 1974 Corvette, playing video games and taking care of his two cats, Lilly and Jasmine.He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Irene and Elmer Wetzel; and his mother, Sherry Needham. Survivors include his two daughters, Kendra and Kaitlyn Ozment; his father, Jackson Ozment; two uncles, Dale Wetzel and Larry Wetzel; three brothers, Michael Ozment, Tony Needham and Timothy Needham; and a sister, Laurie Eaton. He is remembered with love by Joy Womack, Zakk Green, Jamie Green, Lora Ozment and his friends.
