Glade farmer and rancher Cecil William "Sandy" Chester passed away 
July 4, 2020 at the age of 94.&nbsp; Born to William and Irma Quanz Chester, 
April 26, 1926, he lived in the same house he was born in until entering
 Phillips County Retirement Center in 2005.&nbsp; Cecil attended Glade Grade 
School and Phillipsburg High School graduating with the class of 1944 
and was proud to play right tackle on the first undefeated football team
 in 1943.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Cecil was a life long farmer, rancher and member of the Glade United 
Methodist Church.&nbsp; He was a charter member of the Solomon Valley 4-H 
Club and served as FFA President while in High School.&nbsp; He was active in
 the County having been on Township Board, Extension Council, County 
ASCS Committeeman, Farm Bureau Board and was Fair Superintendent at the 
4-H and FFA Fair for several years.&nbsp; One of the jobs he really enjoyed 
was being substitute rural mail carrier for 35 years.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Maxine Bertram 
Whitney &amp; Virginia Grubb; brother-in laws John Bertram, Douglass 
Whitney, Steve Grubb and nephew Bill Bertram.

Survivors include nieces Karen Bertram and Nancy Grubb and nephew 
John Bertram, close neighbor and friends Bob &amp; Shirley Quanz and 
family, great nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.

Cecil was a kind, caring and gentle man which was evident to the end 
and was well thought of and respected by the Staff at the Retirement 
Center.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 9 at 10:30 a.m. in the 
Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Blake Stanwood 
officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Marvin Cemetery, Glade.&nbsp; The 
service will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel 
Facebook page.&nbsp;

Visitation will be from 9:00 to 9:00 Tuesday &amp; Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Phillips County Retirement Center or to Phillips County 4-H.

Harold Lee Pohlman, 56, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Monday morning, July 6, 2020 at the Salina Regional Hospital in Salina, Kansas.

Harold was born December 29, 1963 in Russell, Kansas, the son of Adam Henry “Hank” and Marjorie Lee (Dumler) Pohlman.&nbsp; He grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in the Class of 1982.&nbsp; He then attended Barton County Community College where he obtained a degree in Diesel Mechanics.

Harold was united in marriage to Londa Lynn Thomas on May 25, 1985 in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two children; Brett and Heather.&nbsp; They made their home in Russell.&nbsp; Londa preceded him in death on March 31, 2008.&nbsp; Later in life he found his soulmate with Ronda Pasek.

Harold started working at the age of eight when he mowed yards here in Russell. During his high school and college years he worked at the AGCO grain elevator. After getting his degree he worked at John Deer. Later he worked for the City of Russell for many years before becoming the owner and operator of the Pohlman Hardware Store.&nbsp; Then later he was an oil field pumper for Clenney Oil Company.&nbsp; He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.&nbsp; He was a past Exalted Ruler for the Russell Elks Lodge.&nbsp; He was a volunteer for the Russell City Fire Department for over 20 years reaching the rank of Captain.&nbsp; He also was a member of the Russell Masonic Lodge and the Isis Shrine of Salina.&nbsp; He enjoyed playing and watching sports, an avid KU fan, loved being outdoors hunting and fishing.&nbsp; He loved spending time with his grandsons.

Harold’s surviving family include his daughter, Heather Pohlman of Russell, Kansas; son, Brett Pohlman (Ashley) of Hays, Kansas; companion, Ronda Pasek of the home; step-daughter, Michele McNelis (Pat) of Russell, Kansas; mother, Marjorie Pohlman of Russell, Kansas; sister, Barbara Krug (Brad) of Russell, Kansas; niece, Christina Kerns (Theo Mullen) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and four grandchildren, Mason Pohlman, Royce Pohlman, Lennox Pohlman and Lainey Krayca.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his father and wife Londa.

Donald "Don" Laverne Dreiling passed away at The Heritage of Overland Park, KS on June 23, 2020, at the age of 93. He was born to Louise Legge Dreiling and Acqueline “Ack” Dreiling on March 14, 1927, in Park, KS. He spent his childhood in both western Kansas and Kansas City.

After graduating from St. Joseph Military Academy, Don enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served as a radar operator in Jacksonville, FL; Olathe, KS; and Memphis, TN, during which time, he obtained his Airman’s Certification (pilot’s license). After his honorable discharge, he attended Fort Hays State College.

Don married Bernice A. Haas on May 22, 1948. Don and Bernice started a family with the birth of their sons John and Michael. He also began his 46-year career in the automotive industry. Starting as a parts manager for O’Loughlin Motor Sales, where he quickly moved into car sales, then selling for Jensen-Lungren Chevrolet, Herb Lungren Chevrolet, and, ultimately, James Motor Company. He retired in 1989.

During retirement, Don took up golf. Don was a fixture at the Fort Hays Municipal Golf Course back when it only had nine holes, and he donated countless hours of sweat equity to ensure the back nine went from an idea to reality.

Don’s infectious personality and love of golf brought his two sons and several of his grandchildren into the sport, which they still play today. He often hosted his grandchildren at the course, where echoes of him shouting, “Keep your head down!” still reflect off the grounds of the Fort.&nbsp;

When not on the course, Don loved to swim laps at The Center (CHI), or he could be found having a cup of coffee and a doughnut, while visiting with friends, old and new.

Don is survived by his son Michael J. Dreiling and daughter-in-law Patty Rohr Dreiling of Leawood, KS, his five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, his half-brother Mark Dreiling of San Diego, CA, and his daughter-in-law Patricia Dreiling of Austin, TX.&nbsp;

Don was preceded in death and is now reunited with his wife Bernice Dreiling, his son John Dreiling, his brother Ralph Dreiling, his sister Alice Anderson, his mother, Louise Legge Dreiling, his father Acqueline “Ack” Dreiling, along with his favorite canines, Perk, Maggie, and Molly.&nbsp;

Services will take place the morning of Thursday, July 9, 2020, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays, KS. Visitation at Church begins at 9 a.m., followed by a rosary to be held for Don at 9:30 a.m., with Mass beginning at 10 a.m. Entombment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. The military honors will be provided by the Hays VFW Post 9076. Lunch and refreshments will be served at the VFW following his entombment.&nbsp;

Lavona “Shorty” Kay Rose, age 79, of Garden City, Kansas passed away April 3, 2020, with her family by her side in Garden City.&nbsp;

Shorty was born July 5, 1940, in Goodland to the late Alexander and 
Della May (Gotchall) Miller.&nbsp; She was raised in Goodland where she 
graduated in 1958 as a proud Goodland Cowgirl.&nbsp; Shorty moved to Garden 
City in 1976 with her husband, Danny Rose and family.&nbsp;

Shorty enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, she
 loved going to casino’s, playing pool (which she was very good at, 
working in her yard on her flowers, playing phase 10, putting puzzles 
together, and most of all listening to Elvis Presley.&nbsp; Shorty loved 
camping with her family as well as spending time at their lake house in 
Glen Elder, Kansas.&nbsp;

Shorty is survived by her husband, Danny of Garden City; sister, 
Darlene Bauman (her best friend) of Goodland; brother, Alex “Chip” 
Miller of McAlester, OK; five children: Diana Russell of Garden City; 
Carrie Sue Jennings of Topeka, KS; Kevin (Stephanie) Butler of Garden 
City; Billy (Lora) Butler of Iowa Park, TX; Pamela Butler of Garden

Alan Douglas Ochs, 72, passed away July 4, 2020, at his home in rural
 Hoisington.&nbsp; Alan was born July 10, 1947, in Ransom, to Henry and 
Gwenola (Bagley) Ochs, Jr. &nbsp;On August 6, 1966, Alan married Jeannie 
Siefkes, and were later divorced.&nbsp; On August 5, 1975, he met Leta 
(Jackson) in Hoisington, and they had remained together until her 
passing on Aug. 19, 2015.

Alan, growing up in rural Barton County, had been a Hoisington 
resident since 1959.&nbsp; He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, 
earning the rank of Staff Sergeant.&nbsp; Alan was a career oilfield worker, 
working for LD Drilling for many years, and eventually as a machinist 
for GBI, retiring in 2012.&nbsp; He was a member of American Legion Post 286 
and V.F.W. Post 7428, both of Hoisington.

Survivors include three daughters Kerry Lynn Brady of Ariz., Justina 
Ochs of Stafford, and Angela Ochs of Hoisington; two sisters, Lin Ochs 
and husband Henry Porter of Goodyear, Ariz. and Marcia Welch of Ft. 
Collins, Co.; one brother, Owen Ochs and wife Deanna of Hoisington; four
 grandchildren, Bailey Kelly, Mercedes Gross, Jaylan Cartwright and 
Kataija Ochs; step siblings, Phil Christy and wife Marsha, Bob Christy 
and wife Leora, Cathy Ennis and husband Bill and Richard Christy and 
wife Brenda; step children, Wendell, Ruby, Michael, Mary, Linda and 
Orlin; and numerous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. He 
was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Gwenola Ochs,&nbsp;&nbsp; step

Caroline Julia (Stos) Revell, 85, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2020 at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell.

Caroline was born March 29, 1935 in Great Bend, Kansas.  She was the daughter of Adolph R. and Otillia W. (Suchy) Stos.  She grew up in Jetmore, Kansas and graduated from Jetmore High School in the class of 1953.  After high school she received her nursing degree from Barton County Community College.

Caroline was united in marriage to Don J. Revell on May 14, 1955 in Raton, New Mexico.  This union was blessed with three sons, Donnie, Terry and Roy.  In 1968 they moved to Russell, Kansas.  Don preceded her in death on December 9, 2012.  She was a member of the V.F.W. Post #6240 Ladies Auxiliary.  She enjoyed crocheting, reading and spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids.

Caroline was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Melvin Stos and Eugene Stos: husband Don, and infant son Roy Alan Revell.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 P.M. on Friday, July 17, 2020, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell.  Cremation has been selected by the family and they will greet guests the day of the service.  Memorials can be given to the Russell Food Pantry or Dream Theater and sent in care of the mortuary.   Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

She was the daughter of Adolph R. and Otillia W. (Suchy) Stos. She grew up in Jetmore, Kansas and graduated from Jetmore High School in the class of 1953. After high school she received her nursing degree from Barton County Community College.Caroline was united in marriage to Don J. Revell on May 14, 1955 in Raton, New Mexico. This union was blessed with three sons, Donnie, Terry and Roy. In 1968 they moved to Russell, Kansas. Don preceded her in death on December 9, 2012. She was a member of the V.F.W. Post #6240 Ladies Auxiliary. Kenny W. Warnken, 67, passed away July 4, 2020, at his home in Great 
Bend. He was born on December 1, 1952, at Great Bend, to Allen &amp; 
Moyne (Seltmann) Warnken.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Kenny worked for Essex. He enjoyed 
country cruising while listening to his oldies music. He also enjoyed

Samuel Duane McNett, 72, passed away July 2, 2020, at his home in 
Great Bend. He was born October 25, 1947, at Great Bend, to Maynard 
&amp; Clara (Weber) McNett. He married Glennis F. Lamb on October 14, 
1973, at Great Bend. She died January 19, 2012.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Samuel was a refrigeration 
maintenance tech at Great Bend Packing. He was a member of Prince of 
Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing 
cards, watching westerns, wrestling and his son's motocross races. He 
especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include, two sons, Mark McNett, and Jesse McNett and wife 
Becky, all of Great Bend; four grandchildren, Mickie McNett, Randy 
McNett, Mackenzie Klett, and Shaylyn McNett; and three great 
grandchildren, Sawyer Klett, Aaron Klett, Jr., and Reese Klett. He was 
preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Glennis McNett; a son,

Harry Herl of Collyer, 74, passed away Friday, March 27, 2020.&nbsp; He was born on July 20, 1945, in Quinter, the son of Edwin and Teresa (Augustine) Herl.&nbsp;

Harry married Tharen Troyer on November 29, 1969, and they recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary.&nbsp;For the last 42 years, Harry owned and operated Herl Truck Equipment; buying and selling trucks and tractors. &nbsp;He was the largest salvage dealer in the world for Versatile parts and tractors, as well as military surplus; shipping to Canada, Australia, Belize, New Zealand, South Africa and the whole United States to name a few. His son Shawn also worked with him since 1994.&nbsp;

Harry was a member of the VFW in Ransom, and attended the Quinter Church of the Brethren.

He is survived by his wife, Tharen; sons, Shawn Herl of Quinter and Bryan (Tristina) Herl of Hutchinson; daughter, Julie (Carl) Parker of Oakley; grandchildren, Alyssa and Mason Herl and Sarah Parker along with several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; sisters, Marilyn Randolph and Connie Daniels; many aunts and uncles; and his fur babies, Fred, Cooper, Ziggy and Sammy. Harry was preceded in death by his parents and step grandson, Timothy Parker.&nbsp;

Rosina Brungardt Rohr, 95, died on Saturday, July 4, 2020 at the Ranch 
House in Garden City. She was born on October 7, 1924 at Schoenchen the
 daughter of Joe &amp; Philomena (Klaus) Dreher. She married Bernard 
“Bennie” Brungardt on September 10, 1946 at Garden City. He died on 
December 23, 1978. She later married Gilbert “Bert” Rohr on May 11, 
1985 at Hays. He died on January 9, 2013. 
Rosina moved to Garden City when she was 18 to work in her relatives 
café and cleaned homes and apartments. She then worked at several 
downtown business’s including Ben Franklin and Woolworths before going 
to work at Dillon’s as a clerk. She was a member of St Mary Catholic 
Church and the Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed dancing and music. 
She was preceded in death by her Parents, both Husbands, 6 Brothers and 5
 Sisters. 
She is survived by her 5 Sons- Jerry &amp; Jeanette Brungardt, Ernest 
&amp; Robin Brungardt, Glen &amp; Evanna Brungardt, Harvey &amp; Sherri 
Brungardt and Larry &amp; Mendi Brungardt all of Garden City,

Charles and Charlotte (Schneider) Riedel. Marcella married Leonard E. 
Maneth Sept. 29, 1948 in Olmitz.&nbsp; He died Feb. 9, 2002.

Marcella, a lifetime resident of Olmitz living a short while at 
Riverbend Assisted Living in Great Bend, was a devoted member of St. Ann
 Catholic Church, Olmitz.&nbsp; She was a homemaker and farmer, enjoying all 
aspects of farm life, especially the joys of raising chickens, milking 
cows, field work, butchering and cooking. Cherishing her time with 
family and friends, her door was always open to her loved ones.

Survivors include two sons, Edward C. Maneth and wife Kelly of Olmitz
 and David Maneth and wife Laura of Raytown, Mo.; three daughters, Diana
 Wilson of Kansas City, Mo., Jolene Dozier and husband Greg of 
Independence, and Mary Harbert and husband Gary of Kingman; two sisters,
 Mary Jo Schenk of Great Bend and Carol Ann Thomas of West Chester, 
Ohio; and 25 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.&nbsp; She was preceded
 in passing by her husband, and one son, Leonard E. Maneth, Jr.

Marcella Marie Maneth

Robert Ott Rethorst was born January 12, 1927 to Louis H. and Hazel Ott 
Rethorst in Dodge City, Kansas. The family moved to Spearville, Kansas 
in 1932 and Bob graduated high school in 1944. He served in the United 
States Army during the Occupation of Germany and was discharged in 1946.
 He attended Kansas State University where he graduated in 1951 with a 
degree in Ag Education. Following graduation, he taught vocational 
agriculture for three years at Spearville, Kansas. 
 On June 3, 1951 he was united in marriage to Lois Newell at 
Stafford, Kansas. They enjoyed 69 years of marriage. To this union two 
children were born, a son David in 1952 and a daughter Susan 1955. In 
1954 they moved to Ashland, Kansas where he served as Clark County 
Extension agent. Following his county agent work he worked as manager of
 a large ranch in Clark County, Kansas. In 1966 the family moved to 
Smith Center and he began work at the Smith County State Bank as 
agricultural loan representative, working up to the Sr. Vice President. 
 In 1986 he retired from the bank and started his own real estate 
company, Rethorst Real Estate and Ag Services. He retired from real 
estate in 2014. Bob was an active member of the United Methodist Church 
in Smith Center, served in many capacities including teaching Sunday 
school and singing in the choir. He started singing in the church choir 
when he was in 8th grade and always enjoyed being a part of the choir. 
He was active in the community serving as a 4-H leader, a charter member
 of Smith County Kiwanis and was a Rotary International Paul Harris 
Fellow. 
 A strong supporter of Kansas State University he served on the board
 of directors of the KSU Alumni Association and was president of the KSU
 Ag Alumni Association. He also served on the board of directors of the 
Kansas Livestock Association. His favorite pastime included maintaining a
 nice yard, flowers and vegetable garden as well as going fishing. 
Spending time with his 4 grandchildren, Andi, Chad, Justin and Ashley 
brought him much pleasure. The 10 great grandchildren, Kori, Kyler and 
Kenzie Beckman, Everly and Chase Rethorst, Payton, Brooks and Maddox 
Rethorst and Noah and Oliver Hiser gave him abundant joy. 
 He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Maurine Gragson and Hazel Lou Herron and a brother Edward. 
 Survived include: his wife Lois, son David and wife Starla Rethorst 
of Wamego, KS, daughter Susan and husband Tom Hardacre of Athol, KS, 
Andi &amp; Jason Beckman, Kori, Kyler and Kenzie of Hays, KS, Chad &amp;
 Erica Rethorst, Everly and Chase, Dallas, TX , Justin &amp; Tasha

 </figure>Robert Ott Rethorst was born January 12, 1927 to Louis H. and Hazel Ott 
Rethorst in Dodge City, Kansas. The family moved to Spearville, Kansas 
in 1932 and Bob graduated high school in 1944. He served in the United 
States Army during the Occupation of Germany and was discharged in 1946.
 He attended Kansas State University where he graduated in 1951 with a 
degree in Ag Education. Following graduation, he taught vocational 
agriculture for three years at Spearville, Kansas. 
 On June 3, 1951 he was united in marriage to Lois Newell at 
Stafford, Kansas. They enjoyed 69 years of marriage. To this union two 
children were born, a son David in 1952 and a daughter Susan 1955. In 
1954 they moved to Ashland, Kansas where he served as Clark County 
Extension agent. Following his county agent work he worked as manager of
 a large ranch in Clark County, Kansas. In 1966 the family moved to 
Smith Center and he began work at the Smith County State Bank as 
agricultural loan representative, working up to the Sr. Vice President. 
 In 1986 he retired from the bank and started his own real estate 
company, Rethorst Real Estate and Ag Services. He retired from real 
estate in 2014. Bob was an active member of the United Methodist Church 
in Smith Center, served in many capacities including teaching Sunday 
school and singing in the choir. He started singing in the church choir 
when he was in 8th grade and always enjoyed being a part of the choir.

Robert Ott Rethorst

Ruby Ruth Feess, 86, of Colby, died Friday, July 3, 2020. She was born 
May 16, 1934, in Colby, to John (Ted) and Grace (Chadwick) Griffin. Ruby
 graduated from Colby Community High School in 1954 and then attended 
Central Business College in Denver before returning to Colby. In the 
Fall of 1955, Ruby joined the US Army as part of the Women’s Army Corps,
 with postings at Fort Meade, Maryland; Ent Air Force Base, Colorado; 
and Orleans, France before her discharge as a Sergeant First Class in 
1968. During her time in the service, Ruby married James Robert Feess, 
Sr., in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on July 1, 1966. Following her 
discharge, Ruby worked for Raytheon for 5 years and then worked for the 
4th Judicial District Court, in Colorado, before retiring to stay home 
in 1982. She will be remembered for her love of family, always having 
one of her dogs at her side, and working in her yard up until her final 
days. Ruby was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Thomas County 
Historical Society and the Mingo Bible Church. 
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Jay, 
Allen, Ike and Gary; sisters Ethel and Thelma, and one step-son. 
She is survived by her sister Connie, many nieces, nephews, great nieces
 and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and four step-children. 
Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2020 at Baalmann Mortuary, 
Colby. A graveside service will take place at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 
7, 2020, at Beulah Cemetery, Colby. Memorials are suggested to the

Jacque J. Snow, age 76, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2020, at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas.  She was born on August 4, 1943, in Scott City, Kansas, the daughter of Walter Ray and Neva Ellen Binns Shearmire.  A lifetime resident of Scott City, Kansas, she was a homemaker.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Scott City, Kansas, and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary #6752 of Leoti, Kansas.

On November 10, 1960, she married Kenneth Snow in Scott City, Kansas.  He survives.

Survivors include her Husband - Kenny Snow of Scott City, Kansas, Two Daughters - Shawn &amp; Kelly Conine of Scott City, Kansas, Kimmie Moore of Corryton, Tennessee, Four Grandchildren - Zachery &amp; Alli Conine of Scott City, Kansas, Marley &amp; John Koons of Lakin, Kansas, Danielle Moore &amp; Kendrick Tate of Powell, Tennessee, Alisha Moore of Corryton, Tennessee, Eight Great Grandchildren - Kirbe &amp; Kipton Koons, Harper, Callaway &amp; Sutton Conine, Neviana Mayes, Isaac Harvey, and Shayann Jones.

She was preceded in death by her Parents, Ten siblings - Hugo Shearmire, Walter Shearmire, Maxine Grover, Corrine Brau, Doris Shearmire, Larena Chvilicek, Blanche Gonzales, Ray Shearmire, Jerry Shearmire, Vera Shearmire, and One Grandson - Devin Andrew Conine.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at the First Christian Church in Scott City, Kansas with Rev. Rodney Hopper and Steve Payne presiding.

Burial will be in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.

Theodore “Ted” Roosevelt Seachris, 94, passed away July 2, 2020 at Diversicare of Larned.

He was born June 26, 1926 in Waynoka, Oklahoma to Charles and Mary Beaman Seachris.

A longtime area resident, he was of the Pentecostal faith, attended 
the Welcome Inn Senior Center, and was a welder for Doerr Metal Company,
 Larned.&nbsp;

On June 21, 1952 he married Florine M. Rhodes in Kinsley; she 
preceded him in death on November 18, 1998. He later married Bettie 
McDonald on September 10, 2010 in Larned, she survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Donald Seachris and Danny 
Seachris, both of Larned; step son, Michael Honomichl, Larned; daughter,
 Betty Moore, Larned; sister, Elsie Bingham, Pollock Pines, California; 
three grandchildren; one step grandchild; six great grandchildren and 
two step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Florine; son, Bobby 
Seachris; step daughter, Sherry Hopkins; four brothers, Roy Seachris, 
Marvin Seachris, Bill Seachris, Paul Seachris and three grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at 
Larned Cemetery, Larned, with Pastor John Thomas presiding. Visitation

Theodore 'Ted' Roosevelt Seachris

Bettie Lee (Hemel) Murphy, 87, died Thursday July 2, 2020 in Dighton, 
Kansas. She was born August 16, 1932 in Alamota, Kansas the daughter of 
Jacob and Charolette (Voos) Hemel. 
Bettie grew up in the Lane County area attending the local schools and 
graduating from Dighton High. It was there that she met her husband 
Robert. The two were wed December 22, 1949 in Dighton. Bettie came from a
 large family and so naturally she and Robert had one of their own with 
10 children. The family lived in California, Dighton, Hill City, and 
Scott City over the years until Robert’s retirement in 1994, which led 
them to Harper, Kansas. 
Bettie was a strong woman and known to be outspoken. She spent her years
 raising children and tending to the duties of the household. Her 
children fondly remember her apple pies and fresh loaves of bread. 
Bettie enjoyed playing bingo, gambling, and card games. Although she was
 firm, family was important to her and weekend gatherings were frequent.
 
Bettie is survived by her children- Dennis of Scott City, Larry 
(Marlene) of Scott City, Kathy (Curtis) Lewis of Des Moines, Iowa, Bob 
(Pam) of Scott City, Charlie (Gail) of Scott City, Susan of Dighton, 
Sandra (Dane) Pendleton of Albia, Iowa, Melvin (Denise) of Scott City, 
and Ron of Scott City. Five sisters- Melva (Freeman) Knight of Scott 
City, Ila (Gene) Boone of Dighton, Alice Rennison of Scott City, Shirley
 Ummel of Harper, and Linda (Greg) Barlow of Anthony. 20 grandchildren,
 35 great-grandchildren, and 3 great great-grandchildren, along with 
numerous nieces and nephews. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband- Robert, Sr., 
brothers- Ed, Reub, Cliff, Don, Delmar, and Jake, Jr., one sister- Nedra

Bettie Lee (Hemel) Murphy

Robin Renee’ (Shipley) Pyles, age 43, of McCook, Nebraska passed from 
this earth on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at her home after a valiant fight 
against cancer for the past two years. Robin was born on May 23, 1977, 
in Hoxie, Kansas to Ellen (Brewster) Shipley-Howard and Gary Shipley. 
She graduated from Hoxie High School in 1997 and moved to McCook, 
Nebraska to live near her family. Robin married Daniel “Danny” Pyles 
Jr. on June 26, 2010, in McCook, Nebraska. Robin was baptized into the 
Christian faith at the age of ten and reaffirmed her faith in the Lord 
Jesus Christ as an adult.
 Robin worked as a Home Health Aide. Her favorite job was working 
with her brother, Lance. Robin loved to fish, camp and watch movies. 
She was a good hearted soul and never held a grudge, always forgiving. 
 Robin leaves to morn, her husband, Daniel Pyles Jr. of the home, 
McCook, Nebraska; children, Paige Ribordy of McCook, Nebraska and Josef 
Kripel of Omaha, Nebraska; father, Gary Shipley and step-mother, 
Roberta of Hoxie, Kansas; mother, Ellen Howard &amp; step-father, Jim of
 McCook, Nebraska; sister, Angela Wolgram and family of Madison, Kansas;
 brother, Lance Shipley of McCook, Nebraska; grandmothers, Della Jean 
Shipley and Betty Brewster both of Hoxie, Kansas; step-sisters, Schra

Sharon Lynn (Henderson) Harper, age 72, of Goodland passed away 
Tuesday, June 30, 2020.&nbsp; Sharon was born on July 30, 1947 to Leonard and
 Manette (Anderson) Henderson in St. Francis, Kansas.&nbsp;

Sharon grew up and went to school in St. Francis.&nbsp; Later she attended
 Colby Community College and studied business.&nbsp; Sharon enjoyed working 
in her garden, baking, sewing, and most importantly, spoiling her 
grandchildren.&nbsp; She was a mother, grandmother and friend to all.&nbsp; To 
know her was to love her.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and her brothers, Dale and Gale.&nbsp;

Jason Leroy Hood, 70, died June 27, 2020, at Hickory Pointe, 
Oskaloosa, Kansas. He was born November 8, 1949, in Great Bend, Kansas, 
the son of Melvin and Reta (Decker) Hood.

He is survived by; sisters, Janet Hood of Hoisington, Jolene Helmick 
of Wichita; brothers, Jeffrey Hood of Great Bend, and Jerry Hood and 
wife Betty Jo of Austin, Texas; and 19 neices and nephews.

Graveside service will be Monday, July 6, 2020, at Hoisington City Cemetery.

Maryann E. Racette, age 85, of Oakley, KS died at Logan County Senior 
Living on July 1, 2020. 

She was born April 17, 1935, in rural Sheridan 
County, KS to Levi and Margaret (Tremblay) Ribordy. Maryann married Luke
 A Racette on January 25, 1954, in Grainfield, KS. To this union, eight&nbsp; children were born, Kathy (Ed) Wolak, Goodland, KS. William, Oakley, 
Lori (Phil) Collins, Grinnell, KS, Kennan (Konnie) Racette, Oakley, 
Greg, Donella (Randy) Younkin, Oakley, Darren (Lisa) Racette, 
Grainfield, KS, Rocky (Aida) Racette, Oakley. 
Maryann was a homemaker who loved her family dearly. She loved the 
weekly Sunday dinners when the whole family would get together and after
 lunch the clan would go fishing. Maryann was a member of Immaculate 
Conception Parish in Grinnell where she taught religion classes for many
 years. Most recently she belonged to St. Josephs Parish in Oakley. 
She was preceded in death by her husband Luke; son Greg; son-in-law Ed Wolak and twin grandsons, Tobby and Tanner. 
She is survived by her children listed above; sister Rita 
Truetken-Huffman, of St Louis, MO; 21 Grandchildren; 44 Great 
Grandchildren, and 2 Great, Great Grandchildren. 
The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 pm, Sunday, July 5th, 2020 
at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, in Oakley with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. 
Memorial Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2020, also at the 
church. Burial will follow at the Immaculate Conception Catholic 
Cemetery, in Grinnell, KS.

Maryann E. Racette

Eulalia Sanger, of Quinter, Kansas, died peacefully Monday morning, June 29, 2020, at the Gove County Medical Center in Quinter. She was 94 years and five days at the time of her death.&nbsp;

She was born Eulalia Mae Crist, June 24, 1926, in the farmhouse of her parents, Rev. D. (Daniel) Floyd and Nellie Mae (Jamison) Crist, in rural Quinter. She was their middle child and only daughter. She looked up to and respected her older brother, B. (Burton) Wayne, while always watching after and protecting her younger brother, D.A. (Daniel Albert). Growing up and staying on this same farmstead until she left for college, Eulalia helped with the gardening (vegetables, fruits and flowers), chickens, farm chores, harvest meals, sewing, and putting up the garden produce. Being the daughter and granddaughter of Brethren preachers, Eulalia was very involved in the Quinter Church of the Brethren. She held fond memories of her growing-up years, playing with her many cousins and friends, as both sets of grandparents, and many uncles and aunts lived in the Quinter area.

Eulalia was a life-time member of the Quinter Church of the Brethren, remembering well the first white wooden-framed church in which she attended Sunday school and church, and taught the younger children when she was in high school. She would accompany her mother, Nellie, to quilting, Ladies' Aid meetings, and Love Feast preparations, watching all the goings-on. She remained very active in the life of the church. In her adult years, she served six years as Board Chair, as well as attended the women's work activities, and participated in the monthly class dinners and adult Sunday school.&nbsp;

She attended both grade school and high school at Quinter, then left home to attend McPherson College, graduating in 1948 with a degree in English Literature. While at college, Eulalia met Merrill Sanger upon his return to McPherson College to finish his secondary education following his service in CPS. They were united in marriage on August 3, 1947, in the first wooden-framed Church of the Brethren at Quinter.

Following graduation from college, Merrill and Eulalia moved back to Quinter and farmed. They were blessed with five children and raised them on the farm west of Quinter. Eulalia found her greatest joy in staying busy with growing a large garden and putting up the produce, helping with the farming, serving God by being involved in the church, being active in the&nbsp; Athenaeum Club, teaching school, and being surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She went back to school at Fort Hays College to receive her teaching degree and taught grade school for 27 years, mainly in USD 292, teaching three generations of students.

Eulalia was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Nellie Crist; husband, Merrill David Sanger; eldest infant daughter, Rhonda Faye Sanger; and grandson, Michael Spencer Tilton.

She is survived by her children: Geneva (Bruce) Krehbiel of Pratt, KS, Charla (Don) Tilton of Quinter, Brenda (Gerald) Berggren of Lindsborg, KS, and Stan (Jeanette) Sanger of Lawrence, KS; 15&nbsp; grandchildren and spouses, and 20 great-grandchildren. &nbsp;

The private burial service in the Quinter Cemetery will be Friday, July 3, 9:30 a.m. The public memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., at the Church of the Brethren, Quinter, followed by a luncheon and fellowship.
