Marvin William Dechant

Marvin William Dechant, 95, passed away on June 2, 2021, at the Cedar Village Care Center in Ness City, Kansas.  He was born on January 1, 1926, south of Bazine, Kansas the son of Henry and Albertine (Schoendollar) Dechant.

Marvin was a farmer, stockman, and oilfield worker. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church. He was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He was a lifetime member of the Frank Stull Post No. 152 American Legion, the VFW Post No. 7972, the Eagle’s, and the NRA. He married Clara Kreutzer on January 28, 1948, in Ness City, Kansas. She died on August 5, 2020.

Survivors include 4 sons, Terry and Debbie Dechant of Olathe, Bill Dechant of Ransom, Don Dechant of Cheney and Judy Smith of Wichita, Steve Dechant and Shelli of Wichita; 4 daughters, Pat Reimer of Ness City, Sue Bayer and Ron of Willis, TX, Sandy Borger and Loren of Meade, and Shelly Lumley and Jason Garrison of Ness City; 2 sisters, Helen Hertel of Topeka, and Coralee Frey of Cedar Grove, IN; 24 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 brothers, 4 sisters, his daughter, Nancy Lumley, 3 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, 10:00 A.M., at the Sacred Heart Church, Ness City followed by burial in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Rosary and Parish Vigil will be on Monday, June 7, 2021, at 6:30 P.M. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home. Viewing will be at Fitzgerald Funeral Home on Monday, June 7 from 9:00 A. M. – 8: 00 P.M.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Sacred Heart School or Sacred Heart Cemetery Fund.
