Mildred Waldren, 94, of Tribune, KS, passed away unexpectedly on 
Sunday, April 4, 2021, in Girard, KS.&nbsp; She was visiting Waldren 
relatives for Easter Sunday, and while taking a nap, passed away 
peacefully surrounded by her loving family.&nbsp; Mildred went out on her 
terms, still sharp until the very end.&nbsp; She died on what would have been
 her 70th wedding anniversary.&nbsp; This is a celebration of her life.

Mildred Opal Waldren was born southeast of Arapahoe in Cheyenne 
County, CO, in a sod house, on February 5, 1927.&nbsp; She had five sisters 
and two brothers.&nbsp; Her father, Elias Avery Jones, was a farmer and her 
mother, Caroline Susanne (Talmon) Jones was a housewife.&nbsp; Mildred was 
long impacted by the great depression and the Dust Bowl in the 1930s 
that made life extremely difficult for the Jones family, and for most 
people living on the great plains. While poor, no one in the Jones 
family ever went to bed hungry.

Mildred graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1945, and with the 
scholarship she received as valedictorian of her class, went to Blair 
Business College in Colorado Springs, CO.&nbsp; She graduated with a business
 certificate in 1947, and then moved to Tribune, KS, in August 1947.&nbsp; 
She began employment as the secretary in the KSU Greeley County 
Extension office in August 1947, just two weeks before the Greeley 
County Fair.&nbsp; She then was involved in some major capacity with every 
Greeley County Fair (74 consecutive years) through 2020.&nbsp; Mildred was 
looking forward to her 75th fair in 2021.

Attending a dance at the American Legion hall in Tribune in October 
1947, she met Buford Waldren.&nbsp; They were married in Raton, NM, on April 
4.&nbsp; Returning to Tribune, Buford and Mildred lived in a newly 
constructed house in town. Mildred continued to work at the Extension 
office until October 1952, when she resigned due to upcoming motherhood.

Vernon Lee was born on February 6, 1953, and Deryl Eugene was born on
 June 6, 1955.&nbsp; They continued to live in town until November 1956, when
 they moved to the farm southwest of Tribune, when Garry S. Waldren, 
Mildred’s father-in-law died.&nbsp; Mildred lived on the farm for the rest of
 her life.&nbsp; Buford and Mildred ran a wheat-cattle operation, and Mildred
 was a homemaker.

Mildred began working in the Greeley County Register of Deeds office 
part-time in 1983, and went full-time in 1988.&nbsp; She loved working there 
with Dee Anna Schneider and Lisa Robertson.&nbsp; She retired in September 
2012 at age 85.

Buford died March 19, 1998, after a long illness.&nbsp; Mildred remained 
on the farm and took over managing the wheat farming, while continuing 
to work fulltime at the register of deeds office.

Mildred was especially proud of and dearly loved her three 
grandchildren and frequently went to Omaha, NE, with the other Grandma 
Smith to help babysit when the parents were out-of-town with work.

She also loved to travel and was always on the go.&nbsp; She often stated 
that she never thought she would get to travel as much as she did.&nbsp; 
Highlights included trips to Germany, France and Austria in 1999; the 
Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium in 2005; Italy, Germany, and 
Switzerland in 2009; the Alaskan cruise in 2013; the Panama Canal cruise
 in 2017; the national parks of the west trip in 2019, plus many 
domestic trips around the USA.

Mildred was the embodiment of what a volunteer is.&nbsp; She understood 
the need to support one’s community and strongly supported Greeley 
County and Tribune in multiple ways for 74 years.&nbsp; Her volunteer 
accomplishments are vast and extensive.&nbsp; While never a 4-H member 
herself, she quickly understood the value of 4-H, and gave openly to 
support the youth of Greeley County.

Greeley County volunteer 4-H leader, 1950 – 2021.&nbsp; She was the 
organizational leader of the Go-Getters 4-H Club from 1950 – 2014.&nbsp; She 
was a project leader for 71 years in many projects, including:&nbsp; clothing
 construction, visual arts/arts and crafts in multiple areas, 
crocheting, embroidery, cake decorating, foods, photography and 
woodworking

K-State Research and Extension agent, Todd Schmidt shared, “One of 
her most valuable attributes, was her one-on-one mentoring ability.&nbsp; I 
have had more 4-H alumni comment on how they truly treasured the 
individual mentoring by Mildred, whether it was learning how to sew, 
learning the duties of 4-H club president, or simply learning about 
life.&nbsp; Mildred was always a ‘straight shooter’, yet she showed 
compassion, genuine interest, and love for whomever she was mentoring.”

A former 4-H member of Mildred’s, Dee Anna P. Schneider shared her 
thoughts.&nbsp; “The thousands of hours Mildred volunteered leading her club 
and teaching projects, made her not only a great mentor, but a life-long
 friend as well.&nbsp; Past 4-H members have “Mildred Stories” they continue 
to share and many of them are now parents and grandparents to another 
generation of 4-H’ers.&nbsp; As a 4-H member myself in the 1960s and 1970s, I
 thought Mildred Waldren started 4-H!&nbsp; When I became a project leader, a
 4-H parent and then a club leader, Mildred was there to guide me.&nbsp; I 
was also fortunate to have her as an employee in the Register of Deeds 
Office for many years.&nbsp; Mildred was a great mentor and friend to 
everyone.”

Mildred was selected as the Monsanto National 4-H Volunteer of the 
year in 2013, and was honored as the sole recipient during the 2013 
Extension Galaxy Conference in Pittsburgh, PA.&nbsp; She donated the $1,000 
prize money back to Greeley County 4-H volunteers towards the building 
of a covered rest area adjacent to the 4-H Building on the Greeley Co. 
Fairgrounds.

Mildred is survived by two sons:&nbsp; Vernon (Cheri) Waldren of 
Papillion, NE; Deryl Waldren of Colby, KS.&nbsp; She is also survived by 
three grandchildren:&nbsp; Jennifer (Bryce) Weber of St. George, UT; Andrew 
(Jennifer) Waldren of Omaha, NE/Central Asia; Heather Judy of Beaufort, 
South Carolina; and one step-grandchild, Lacy (Nathan) Eicher of 
Bellevue, NE.&nbsp; Great-Grandchildren are:&nbsp; Michael John Waldren, Nathanael
 Waldren, Isabelle Waldren, Samuel Waldren, and Orion Weber.&nbsp; 
Step-Great-Grandchildren are:&nbsp; Emma Eicher, Liam Eicher, Rowyn Eicher, 
Graeme Eicher, and Mairen Eicher.&nbsp; Two sisters survive her:&nbsp; Edna Grubb,
 Tribune and Dorothy Hull, Inman, KS.&nbsp; Mildred is also survived by 
numerous nieces and nephews, great, great-great, and great-great-great 
nieces and nephews.

Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. MT, Wednesday, April 
14th, and 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. MT, April 15th at Price &amp; Sons 
Funeral Home in Tribune, Kansas.

Funeral Services will be in Tribune, KS, on Friday, April 16 with grandson Andrew Waldren and Jeri Farmer Smith presiding.

Mildred Waldren

Anna Janell Kaiser, 82, passed away April 7, 2021, at Woodhaven Care 
Center, Ellinwood. She was born on October 26, 1938, in Henderson, KY, 
to Earnest and Alvera (Cook) Fisher. She married Donald Peter Kaiser on 
May 10, 1958, in Great Bend.&nbsp; He died May 7, 2009.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Anna was a housekeeper for Best 
Western and Larned State Hospital, previously working at Rexall Drug. 
She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic 
Church and the Altar Society. She enjoyed playing bingo, cooking, baking
 and attending craft shows.

Survivors include, two sons, Dale Kaiser (Aimee Johnston) of Kansas 
City, KS, and Devin Kaiser and wife&nbsp; Kristie of Hoisington; a daughter, 
Donna Fisher and husband Rik of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Trudy
 Richardson of Great Bend; and three grandchildren, Mackenzie Kaiser, 
Trevor Kaiser and Anneka Fisher. She was preceded in death by her 
parents; her husband, Donald Kaiser; and a sister, Lois Befort.&nbsp;

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday, April 
12, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Altar Society Rosary at 4:00 
p.m., and Vigil service with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian 
Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at St. Rose 
of Lima Catholic Church, with Father Don Bedore presiding. Interment 
will be in the Great Bend Cemetery.

Anna Janell Kaiser

On Good Friday, April 2, 2021, Eugene R. Bucciarelli passed away from a 
battle with cancer. He was in the company of his loving wife, Patricia 
Bucciarelli, who survives him. 

He is also survived by his sister, Mary 
Bucciarelli of North Tonawanda, NY, and numerous nieces and nephews. 
Eugene was born in N. Tonawanda, NY in 1930 to Alfonso and Lucia, both 
immigrants from Italy, who had six children. He proudly served in the 
U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict as an X-ray technician, following 
this with his undergraduate degree at Claremont Men’s College 
(Claremont, CA) under the G.I. Bill. He further completed his education 
with an M.B.A. at Northwestern University and then began his lifelong 
career in international financial auditing. He met his future wife, 
Patricia (née Dlabal, born in Lincoln Co., KS), in California, and would
 marry her in Turin, Italy in 1963 during his first overseas position. 
The Bucciarellis would spend the next several decades in Europe, where 
Eugene worked for the U.S. State Department in cooperation with the 
UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees). 
 Due to his U.N. work, most of this time was spent in Switzerland, 
with other official travel taking him to Vietnam, Thailand, and the 
Philippines. Eugene was a tireless and dedicated professional who 
continued working well into his late 70s, as well as serving his 
local community in his 80s as a member of the Santa Barbara County 
Grand Jury. As an avid reader, he keenly followed current events and 
international affairs, and was always enthused to discuss these with 
family and friends. Eugene encouraged his nieces and nephews often and 
reminded them of the importance of education, goals, and pride in hard 
work. Once home in the U.S. after so many years abroad, the Bucciarellis
 became faithful members of their Catholic parish at Old Mission Santa 
Barbara. He embodied loyalty, faith, and patriotism throughout his life.
 Rest in the Lord’s Peace and Buona Notte, Uncle Gene. 
 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 12, 2021,&nbsp; starting at 10:30 AM at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilson. 
Visitation will be on Sunday at the funeral home from 2 PM until 7PM 
with a vigil starting at 6 PM.

 </figure>On Good Friday, April 2, 2021, Eugene R. Bucciarelli passed away from a 
battle with cancer. He was in the company of his loving wife, Patricia 
Bucciarelli, who survives him. He is also survived by his sister, Mary 
Bucciarelli of North Tonawanda, NY, and numerous nieces and nephews. 
Eugene was born in N. Tonawanda, NY in 1930 to Alfonso and Lucia, both 
immigrants from Italy, who had six children. He proudly served in the 
U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict as an X-ray technician, following 
this with his undergraduate degree at Claremont Men’s College 
(Claremont, CA) under the G.I. Bill. He further completed his education 
with an M.B.A. at Northwestern University and then began his lifelong 
career in international financial auditing. He met his future wife, 
Patricia (née Dlabal, born in Lincoln Co., KS), in California, and would
 marry her in Turin, Italy in 1963 during his first overseas position. 
The Bucciarellis would spend the next several decades in Europe, where 
Eugene worked for the U.S. State Department in cooperation with the 
UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees). 
 Due to his U.N. work, most of this time was spent in Switzerland, 
with other official travel taking him to Vietnam, Thailand, and the 
Philippines. Eugene was a tireless and dedicated professional who 
continued working well into his late 70s, as well as serving his 
local community in his 80s as a member of the Santa Barbara County 
Grand Jury. As an avid reader, he keenly followed current events and 
international affairs, and was always enthused to discuss these with 
family and friends. Eugene encouraged his nieces and nephews often and 
reminded them of the importance of education, goals, and pride in hard 
work. Once home in the U.S. after so many years abroad, the Bucciarellis
 became faithful members of their Catholic parish at Old Mission Santa 
Barbara. He embodied loyalty, faith, and patriotism throughout his life.

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 12, 2021,&nbsp; starting at 10:30 AM at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilson. 
Visitation will be on Sunday at the funeral home from 2 PM until 7PM 
with a vigil starting at 6 PM.

In Loving Memory of Harvey James Pfannenstiel

Harvey passed away on Sunday, April 4, 2021, at his home. He was born on April 12, 1934, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Celestine and Philomena Pfannenstiel. 

After high school at St. Joseph Military Academy, he went to Maryland to study with the Capuchin brotherhood. After that he decided to move to Denver and went to mechanics school. He met the love of his life, Bernadine, while attending a young adult group called the Cathedral Club at the Denver Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.

He is an Army Veteran and served as an Army Infantryman. He was in the 16th infantry regiment that is a part of the 1st Infantry division. He served in Germany and spoke fluent German. His days of enlistment were from June 1958 to August 1960.

On July 31, 1965, he married Bernadine Sattler and she survives at their home. Harvey was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Westminster, Colorado. His main occupation was a Licensed Master Electrician. He worked at Florescent Maintenance Company and Front Range Community College. He also worked as head of maintenance at St. Mark Catholic Church for many years. He was a member of the Denver Kickers Sport Club, The Knights of Columbus, the Westminster Elks Club, the American Legion, and a German singing group named the Arion Gesangverein.

He is survived by his daughters, Tina Oestereicher, Johanna Taddiken, and Jessica Champion. He has six grandchildren – Zachary, Brandon and Sarah Oestereicher, Jacob Taddiken, and Austin and Claire Champion.

He is also survived by brothers Norbert and Cliff, sisters Esther Wasinger, Lucy Dechant, Rosie Werth, Charlene Werth and Sandy Keil. He was preceded in death by brothers Lester and Terry and sisters Marie Gabel, Theresa and Agnes Pfannenstiel.&nbsp;

He was a wonderful and loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. We will miss him very much. Services will be April 21, 2021, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Westminster. Burial will take place at Fort Logan Military Cemetery.

Phillipsburg resident Tommy Ray Hadley passed away Tuesday, April 
6, 2021, at the University of Kansas Medical Center at the age of 71.&nbsp; He
 was born Sept. 12, 1949, in Hays, the son of Leland &amp; Lucille 
(Anglin) Hadley.

Survivors include his wife Mildred of the home; his son Lee; his 
son/nephew Travis Stites; his daughter Robbie Asher all of Phillipsburg;
 2 sisters: Sherry Stites of McPherson &amp; Kathy Dechant of Marion, IA
 &amp; 6 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 12, at 10:00 a.m. in the 
Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stuttgart, with Pastor Lee

Vera Kruckenberg, 92, passed away peacefully in her home on April 8, 
2021, in Great Bend, KS. Vera was born to Harold and Mabel (Gibson) 
Easley on July 22, 1928, in rural Greenwood County, KS, and spent most 
of her years growing up in Lyons, KS. After graduating from High School,
 she moved to Great Bend to work at Wadell Electric Company.

On September 12, 1948, she was joined in marriage to Kenneth 
Kruckenberg. The couple moved to his family farm west of Great Bend 
where they lived until his early death in 1969.

Vera then moved into Great Bend and worked for Barton County in both 
the Treasurer’s Office and Appraiser’s Office until her retirement. She 
was a strong woman as she continued to do a wonderful job raising her 
three children.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, an avid Royals fan and enjoyed watching “Jeopardy” and “Wheel of Fortune”.

She is survived by her three children: Connie Karlin, Great Bend, 
Sherry Keil (Larry), Durango, CO, and Jay Kruckenberg (Suzy), Mooreland,
 OK; six grandchildren; 2 great-granddaughters; and a sister, Phyllis 
Gantz, Omaha, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents; three 
brothers; her husband, Kenny; and her long-time friend and companion, 
Rodger Rowland who brought years of happiness to her life.

Visitation will be at Bryant Funeral Home on Sunday, April 11, 2021, 
from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 4:00 to 
6:00 p.m. that evening. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., 
Monday, April 12, 2021, at the Great Bend Cemetery, with Pastor Barbara 
Jones officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to 
Golden Belt Home Health &amp; Hospice, in care of the funeral home.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jeffrey Brozek for his many years 
of care and Vera’s caregiver, Falisha Simpson for the exceptional and 
compassionate care she gave to Vera over the past year, which allowed

Gerald Edward “Fuzzy” Weyand, 84, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2021, at his residence in Russell. He was born December 20, 1936 in Galva, KS to Herbert and Bertha (Ollek) Weyand. Gerald attended and graduated from Lehigh High School in 1954.

Gerald was introduced to a Stormont Vail nursing student, Freda Mae Duffey, by his brother. They were married September 20, 1958 and made their home in Norton. Gerald and Freda enjoyed 62 years of marriage until her death in August 2020, after which he moved to Russell to be closer to family.

Gerald took great pride of his service in the Navy, always replying “It was my honor and privilege” when total strangers would thank him for his service. You never saw him out and about without his trusted Navy cap on.

Gerald worked for the Kansas Highway Patrol for 36 years, retiring in 1998. He and Freda spent much of their retirement attending every band concert, school program, and baseball, football, volleyball, and softball game of their grandkids that they could. They also found time to hit a few casinos in between! A highlight was an Alaskan cruise with Freda’s brother and sisters.

Survivors who will miss him dearly are his children, Carla (Richard) Miller of Russell, Curt (Michelle) Weyand of Manhattan, and Craig (Misty) Weyand of Salina; grandchildren: Ryan Miller, Rylee Miller, Corey Weyand, and Connor Weyand; great-grandchildren: Haley, Hunter, Paisley, Harlie and Chloe.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Friday, April 9, 2021 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Norton. Burial will be at 2:00 pm Friday, April 9 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at WaKeeney. Gerald Edward 'Fuzzy' Weyand

Wade J. Jeffery, 62, Hays, died Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born August 16, 1958 in New 
London, Wisconsin, the son of Jim L. and Nathella I. (McLaughlin) 
Jeffery. He was a 1976 graduate of Scott City High School and earned an 
Associate Degree in auto mechanics from Goodland Vo-Tech.&nbsp; On May 7, 
1983 he was united in marriage to Shawn Sharkey in Scott City, and they 
celebrated 37 years of marriage. &nbsp;Wade was an auto mechanic, parts and 
service manager for Money Chevrolet in Hill City and Western Motor 
Company in Garden City, he and his wife owned and operated JBW Racing, 
and he was a fiber optic technician for Midwest Contractors.&nbsp; His 
memberships include Hays First United Methodist Church and the National 
Rifle Association.&nbsp; He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, 
racing cars and being a pit crew mechanic, hunting, shooting, reloading,
 and spending time with his children and grandchildren. &nbsp;

Survivors include his wife: Shawn of 
Hays, a son: Brady Jeffery and wife Veronica of Scott City, a daughter: 
Meghann Jeffery and fiancé Jordan Johnson of Washington, his mother: 
Nathella Jeffery of Scott City, two sisters: Nathella Beth Humberg and 
husband Calvin of Ness City and Jimalene Haddon and husband Randy of 
Ellinwood, and two grandchildren: Carson Gabel-Jeffery and Bowen 
Jeffery, both of Scott City.

He was preceded in death by his father,
 his paternal grandparents: Roy and Beth Jeffery, and his maternal 
grandparents: Gay and Ilene McLaughlin.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 pm on
 Friday, April 16, 2021 at Hays First United Methodist Church, with Rev.

Marvin Henry Otto Stutheit, 89, claimed his Easter victory on Monday, April 5, 2021 at the Norton Andbe Home. He was born the first of five children on March 3, 1932 in Johnson County, Nebraska to Lena (Grauerholz) and Harold Stutheit. 

The family settled on a farm near Kensington, KS. After graduating from Kensington High School, Marvin attended and graduated from Fort Hays State University majoring in music on a trumpet scholarship. He then enlisted in the Army and was stationed at San Antonio, TX where he played in the Army band. At his first teaching position in Quinter, KS, Marvin met Pheobie Montgomery, the Superintendent of Nurses at the hospital. Marvin and Pheobie were married June 2, 1957 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hays, KS. 

The newly weds moved to Boulder, CO where Marvin studied and graduated with a Master of Music Degree from the University of Colorado. Marvin accepted a position in Palco, KS to teach music where their only daughter, Sue Ann, was born on music festival day in Hays, KS. 

The young family moved to Norton in 1962. Marvin then taught music at Jennings, KS and in 1976 moved to the farm Northwest of Norton, where in addition to crops, Marvin raised registered Charolais cattle and planted an extensive garden. He was known for his beautiful gladiolas. Today, the farm is managed by Brian Smith, who trained with Marvin since Brian’s eight grade summer. 

Marvin is survived by his loving wife, Pheobie of the home; his daughter, Sue Ann of Norton, KS; two sisters, Lela (Gary) Eller of Hays, KS, Helen DaVatz of Olathe, KS and sister-in-law, Sandra Stutheit of Waverly, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Melvin, and Leland Stutheit.

Private Family Services will be held 10:00 am Saturday, April 10, 2021 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Norton. A public burial service will follow at the Norton Cemetery at approximately 11:15 am. Ann (Yeisley) Becker, 69, Norton, KS, passed away on Monday, April 5, 2021. She was born in Cedar Rapids, IA, on January 27, 1952, to Retta (Knapp) and Arther Yeisley. 

In her young adulthood, Ann attended Central Missouri State University and lived in Topeka, KS, and Taipei, Taiwan, before moving to Norton in 1985. On October 15, 1988, she married John Becker, Lenora, KS. Together they shared thirty-two years of marriage and raised five children: Annette Becker, Denton, TX; Timothy Becker, Layton, UT; Phillip Becker, El Paso, TX; Melinda Becker and spouse Henry Chapman, Kansas City, KS; and Eric Becker, Denton, TX.

Ann was a dedicated wife, caring parent, and engaged community member. She poured time and energy into a variety of activities and local organizations: teaching confirmation classes and making meals for new parents and events at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, volunteering with the Busy Jayhawkers 4-H Club, and supporting and attending innumerable Norton Public School events, among many other activities. Professionally, in Norton, she worked at the Norton State Hospital, Eisenhower Elementary School, and Valley Hope, as well as supporting John’s farming and ranching. At home, she made cozy patchwork quilts, took long walks, cooked comforting food, read books from the Norton Public Library, and drafted handwritten letters every day to her children, family, and friends. She is best remembered for her can-do attitude and taking delight in the little things.

Ann is survived by her loving husband and five children, as well as her siblings Harley Yeisley, Marion, IA; Rebecca Wetter and spouse Clarence, Norton, KS; and Walter Yeisley and spouse Karen, Varnville, SC. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 am Thursday, April 8, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Norton. Burial will follow at the Norton Cemetery. Marjorie Eileen Kershner, 99, passed away April 7, 2021, at Brookdale
 Senior Living, Great Bend.&nbsp; She was born March 17, 1922, in Alexander, 
Kansas, to Rudolph and Laura (Mitchell) Kueffer.&nbsp; She married George 
Junior Kershner December 7, 1941, at her parents’ home in Alexander.&nbsp; 
George passed away June 24, 2010.&nbsp; Marjorie was a graduate of Alexander 
High School and later graduated from the Wichita School of Cosmetology.

She was an active member of the King United Methodist Church, where 
she had been a member of the choir, a children’s Sunday school teacher 
and a member of the United Methodist Women.&nbsp; Marjorie enjoyed making 
crafts, quilts and gardening.

Survivors include her daughters; Jann Sherman and husband Dennis of 
Great Bend, and Susanne Price of Wichita; three grandchildren; Julia 
Davis of Wichita, Kan., Jill Sherman of Manhattan, Kan., and Todd 
Sherman and wife Emily of Olathe, Kan.; as well as numerous nieces and 
nephews.

She was preceded in passing by her husband, George; sisters, Delores 
Schwartzkopf and husband Carl, and Winnifred Rappa and husband Frank.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 2021, at 
Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend.&nbsp; Interment will follow at Great Bend

Marjorie Eileen Kershner

Bernice Arline (Brown) Lindburg, 77, of Parkville, MO, passed away at Northcare Hospice House on Friday, April 2, 2021. 
 Bernice was born on May 8, 1943 in Hays, KS to Loid and Beulah 
(Burnett) Brown. She graduated in 1961 from Melvern High School. Shortly
 after graduation, Bernice was united in marriage with Larry Alan 
Lindburg on June 18, 1961, in Melvern, KS. This year would have marked 60
 years together. 
 After finishing his basic training, Larry was stationed to Japan 
with the US Airforce. During this time, Bernice remained in Melvern with
 other family members and their young daughter, Arline. Upon his return 
to the US, the family moved to the KC Metro area where they remained, 
having two more children, sons, Larry and Brian. They moved into the 
current family home in 1977. Bernice enjoyed gardening and spending time
 with her family. Many card games were played together around the 
kitchen table. When Arline’s family was living in Europe, Bernice 
greatly enjoyed visiting them and traveling together, seeing the sights 
of several countries. 
 Preceding Bernice in death are her parents, Loid and Beulah Brown; and one son-in-law, Dennis Henderson.
 Her loving memory lives on in the hearts of her husband, Larry A. 
Lindburg; daughter, Arline Henderson of Kearney, MO; two sons, Larry 
Lindburg, Jr. of Kansas City, MO and Brian Lindburg of Riverside, MO; 
sisters, Helen Bartlett of Waverly, KS, Deloris Beck, Leala Bungart,

Clark F. Brackney of Galloway, N.J., passed away early Saturday morning, April 
3, 2021. He was 70 years old. Born in Hays, Kansas, Clark also resided
 in Iowa, Missouri, and Connecticut before calling New Jersey home. 
Clark was a true factotum. After graduating from Hays High School and 
marrying his wife, Sally, Clark worked in a variety of fields and 
capacities including the cattle industry, construction, sales, retail 
management, providing services to pet owners, and real estate sales 
support. His engaging personality and wide-ranging skill set left him 
equally comfortable riding a horse, repairing a car, remodeling a home, 
or managing a large operation with scores of employees. 
Clark was always interested in doing new things and seeing new places. 
He enjoyed traveling both in the U.S. and abroad. He was a raconteur, 
ready to regale others with stories of his latest discovery, trip, or 
observation in his own inimitable style. In addition to closely 
following the day-to-day happenings in his children’s and 
grandchildren’s life, he also found time to track the Phillies and 
76ers. 
Clark is predeceased by his father, Cecil “Pete” Brackney, his mother, 
Francis Brackney, his stepmother, Eileen Brackney, his brother, Charles 
Brackney, and his sister, Charlene Brackney. He is survived by his 
wife, Sally Brackney, his son, Carson Brackney and wife Sherri, and 
granddaughters Evangeline and Amelia, his daughter, Megan Brackney and

Howard Nelson Farr was born on April 17, 1931, in Oneonta, New York,&nbsp; the son of Leon John Farr and Florence Lucille (Davis) Farr.&nbsp; He passed 
away on Thursday, February 4, 2021, at the Logan Manor in Logan, KS at 
the age of 89.

He grew up in Milford, NY.&nbsp; He married Catherin Beams on January 10, 
1954, in West Davenport, NY.&nbsp; He worked as a housekeeper at Mohawk Valley
 Nursing Home in Ilion, NY.&nbsp; He served in the 25th infantry division of the US Army, and he was stationed in Japan and Korea.

Survivors include his wife Catherine of Logan, KS; sons Howard Farr 
of Woodbourne, NY, Charles Farr of Frankfort, NY, and Donald Farr of 
Oxford, NY; his daughters Catherine Rogers of Livingston Manor, NY, Mary
 Cunningham of Cedarville, NY, Eleanor Conrad-Farr of Phillipsburg, KS, 
Janice Smaldone of Frankfort, NY; several grandchildren and great 
grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Leona; brothers Floyd and John; and grandchildren Samantha and Elijah.

Howard was known for his sense of humor and passion for helping 
others.&nbsp; His hobbies included gardening, making horseradish, hunting, 
fishing, and telling stories about the one that got away.

Cremation was planned.&nbsp; Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 
a.m. Friday, April 9, 2021, at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel,

Roy Dean Draper was born July 14th, 1939, in Smith Center, KS, the 
youngest son of Clyde W. Draper and Velma L. (Nonamaker) Draper. He 
passed away on April 6th, 2021, at the Rawlins County Health Center in 
Atwood, KS. 
Roy grew up on the family farm south of Kensington, KS. He spent most 
of his summers working for relatives on their farms in the area. This 
developed a strong work ethic. He graduated from Kensington High School
 in 1957. When he was 19, he was hired “right off the tractor” by the 
Kansas Department of Transportation. He spent the next 44 years with 
KDOT until he retired in 2003. His work led him and the family to live 
in Phillipsburg, Norton, Goodland, and finally Atwood. 
Roy married Mary (Plymesser) Draper March 18th, 1960, in Phillipsburg, 
KS. To this union three children were born, Laurie (Steve) Kastens of 
Rawlins County, Linda (Joe Samson) Wright of Atwood, Jason (Rubylee) 
Draper of WaKeeney, 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Roy and 
Mary were married for 58 years. Their love was a great example for 
their family. 
Roy was preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Velma Draper, an 
infant sister Valta Jean Draper, brother-in-law Francis Hoffman, 
brother-in-law Gary Plymesser, sister-in-law Sandra Plymesser, and his 
beloved wife Mary Draper. 
He is survived by his children, brother Donald (Marilyn) Draper of Elizabeth, CO and sister Ellen Hoffman of Lincoln, NE. 
Roy had many hobbies and passions throughout his life. He loved 
athletics regardless of which sport or kids were playing. He enjoyed 
camping and relaxing at the lake with Mary. After Mary passed in 2018, 
he started attending Country music dances. He appreciated the old-style
 music and new friends he made including Sally Hudson, who became a dear
 friend and dance partner. 
There will be a viewing at Baalmann Mortuary, Atwood, on Thursday, April
 8, 2021, from 5-7 p.m. The funeral service will be at the United 
Methodist Church, in Atwood, Friday, April 9, at 10:00 a.m., with 
interment in Fairview Cemetery, Atwood. Memorials are suggested to the

Roy had many hobbies and passions throughout his life. He loved 
athletics regardless of which sport or kids were playing. He enjoyed 
camping and relaxing at the lake with Mary. After Mary passed in 2018, 
he started attending Country music dances. He appreciated the old-style
 music and new friends he made including Sally Hudson, who became a dear
 friend and dance partner. 
There will be a viewing at Baalmann Mortuary, Atwood, on Thursday, April
 8, 2021, from 5-7 p.m. The funeral service will be at the United 
Methodist Church, in Atwood, Friday, April 9, at 10:00 a.m., with 
interment in Fairview Cemetery, Atwood. Memorials are suggested to the

Eugene H. Hurd, age 94, died on Sunday, April 6, 2021, at the St. 
Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on August 27, 
1926, in Garden City, Kansas, the son of John and Mary Thomas Hurd.

He graduated from Garden City, High School and served his country 
during World War II in the Army Air corps.&nbsp; He was married to Sonnehilda
 Behrens until she passed away in 1966.&nbsp; He later married Leona Ochs 
until her passing in 2001.&nbsp; Gene was also a member of Trinity Lutheran 
Church and the Eagles Lodge both of Garden City, Kansas.

Gene owned and operated the Phillips 66 on Fifth and Kansas for a 
number of years before working as a dispatcher for the Kansas Highway 
Patrol, working at Fansler Tires, and workign security at the Finney 
County IBP plant.

Survivors include:&nbsp;Two Sons - Phil (Connie) Hurd of Salina, 
Kansas,&nbsp;Dan (Jo) Hurd of Rozel, Kansas;&nbsp;One Stepson - Mark (Cindy) 
Hawkins;&nbsp;Two Stepdaughters - Deb (Jim) Hall,&nbsp;Lori Frame;&nbsp;12 
grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his two sons, Tim Hurd and Mike Hurd; one stepson, Mike Hawkins; one daughter, Shelley Hurd.

Lawrence A. “Larry” Dreiling, 65, Catharine, died Monday, April 5, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born September 17, 1955, in Hays,
 the son of Lawrence J. “Larry” and Norma Jean (Urban) Dreiling.&nbsp; In 
1973, he graduated from Hays High School.&nbsp; He was an oilfield pumper, 
owning and operating Larry Dreiling Pumping, and he invented and 
designed gauge sticks for oilfield tanks.&nbsp; On November 11, 1977, he was 
united in marriage to Glady J. Dorzweiler in Catharine, and they 
celebrated 20 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on 
October 24, 1997.&nbsp; On December 26, 2003, he was united in marriage to 
Anita (Kinderknecht) Fisher, and they celebrated 17 years of marriage.&nbsp; 
His memberships include St. Catherine Catholic Church, St. Catherine 
Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #11687, where he was Past Grand
 Knight, and the Bishop Cunningham Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of 
Columbus, where he was Past Faithful Navigator.&nbsp; He was an entrepreneur,
 a jack-of-all-trades, enjoyed woodworking, and he would easily manage 
multiple projects simultaneously.&nbsp; Larry was very welcoming, caring, and
 possessed a wonderful smile, knew people wherever he traveled, had an 
exceptional memory, and loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Anita of 
Catharine, his father and mother-in-law: Leo and Viola Dorzweiler of 
Catharine, two sons: Matt Dreiling and wife Renee of Hays &nbsp;and Adam

Marilyn F.&nbsp;(Collins) Deines, Age 84, of Sharon Springs passed away at
 St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas due to complications from
 COVID-19. Marilyn was born on July 13, 1936 in Hoxie, Kansas to Carl 
Curry and Mary Kathryn Moss Collins. She had two brothers, Gerald and 
Dennis. She grew up in Hoxie and attended school and graduated from 
Hoxie High School with the class of 1954.

In June of 1954 she married Lloyd Gale Adams in Hoxie, Kansas. To 
this union two children were born, Tamera Kay and Gale Gene. She was a 
housewife for several years. She then worked at a dental office as an 
assistant for 8 years, then a secretary for a law firm in Hoxie for 
several years. In 1971, she married Lyle Fikarn of Atwood. The lived in 
Brewster, Kansas for 17 years. They were divorced in 1985. She then 
worked as a secretary at Goodland High School for USD 352 for 5 years. 
In May of 1990 she married Harold Deines at the Lutheran Church in 
Sharon Springs, Kansas. To this union she acquired four stepchildren, 
Garold Deines, Cindy Wax, Loretta Sullivan and Kirk Deines.

Preceding her in death were her parents; brother, Dennis Collins; son-in-law, Daniel Winter; and stepfather, Clarence Ikenberry.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Harold; daughter, Tamera Kay 
Winter of Yreka, CA; son, Gale Gene Adams of Studley, KS; brother,

Richard A. (Dick) Woodall was born September 20, 1925 in Hutchinson, Kansas, the son of Lester V. Woodall and Maureen (Concannon) Woodall.&nbsp; He passed Saturday April 03, 2021 at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital Long Term Care.

He was a graduate of Hutchinson High School in 1943.&nbsp; Like many of his generation Dick served in the United States Army serving in the Army Air Corps.&nbsp; After his honorable discharge, he proceeded with a post-secondary education and met Helen Franklin at Hutchinson Community College.&nbsp; They were married July 20, 1947 in Hutchinson, Kansas. His college education continued at Pittsburg State College graduating in 1951.&nbsp; He later earned a master’s degree in Counseling from Fort Hays University.&nbsp; A career as an educator and Coach in Kansas began in 1951 at Haven and then Paradise, WaKeeney, Wheatland High School, Ness City and Hutchinson Community College.

Throughout his life Dick loved music and especially Barbershop music. He was a member of several Barbershop Quartets and was active in choruses as well for over 70 years.&nbsp; In addition to music, his interests included athletics, especially basketball, golf and lake activities. His favorite times were with family especially 7 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Following a career in education Dick began a second career in Financial Planning and Life Insurance with Waddell and Reed, Edward D. Jones and Principal Financial Group.

He is survived by: daughter Kathy Dietz (Larry) of WaKeeney, son Joel Woodall (Nanette) of Salina, Kansas, and daughter Marcia Lance (Rick) of Olathe, Kansas; Granddaughters Alisa Odell (Ted) of Prairie Village, Kansas, Nikki Daubert (Ryan) of WaKeeney,&nbsp; Kelli Lance (Brandon Truta) of Overland Park, Kansas; Grandsons Ryan Woodall of Denver, Colorado;&nbsp; Kurt Dietz (Brandy) of Overland Park, Kansas, Bryce Woodall (Ryann) of Salina, Kansas, and Joel Lance (Jessica) of Gardner, Kansas; 17 Great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Spicer (Herb) of Silver Spring, Maryland, Janet Heitmann (Dan) of Hutchinson, Kansas, Karen Foyle (Bob) of Richardson, Texas, and Linda Ging (Bob) of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and a special companion, Frances Michaelis of WaKeeney.

A funeral service in honor of Dick’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 12th, 2021, at the WaKeeney United Methodist Church, with a visitation one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will take place at the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery, WaKeeney.&nbsp;

Jaclyn Louise (Lewis) Burton, 91, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at Russell Regional Hospital.

Jaclyn was born July 9, 1929, at her parent’s home in Hominy, Oklahoma, the daughter of Harold M. and Juanita S. (Winters) Lewis.&nbsp; Jaclyn’s family moved from Oklahoma to Madison, Kansas in her early years.&nbsp; Her parents bought a jewelry store where she enjoyed working.&nbsp; The Lewis family bought a Russell, Kansas Jewelry store and moved there in 1945.&nbsp; After graduating from Russell High School in 1947, she attended two years at Ft. Hays State College&nbsp; where she became interested in drawing and painting. &nbsp;

Jaclyn was united in marriage to Donald H. Burton on August 29, 1949, in Russell.&nbsp; This union was blessed with a son Hal.&nbsp; They made their home in Russell for a few years before moving to Beloit, Kansas in 1955.&nbsp; Then in 1959 they moved to Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; She began actively painting oils and water colors with local artist.&nbsp; In the mid 1960’s, she began the first of many trips to art school in Cloudcroft, New Mexico.&nbsp; She enthusiastically persuaded family and friends to take at the trips to Cloudcroft Art School.&nbsp; Jaclyn’s relatives that made the Cloudcroft pilgrimage included her sister, Dolores Fitzgerald Brandt, her father, Harold, and niece Peggy Fitzgerald Campbell, and long time friend, Mary Lois Gross.&nbsp; In later years, she enjoyed attending workshops and exhibits of The Palco Art Club.

Jaclyn’s surviving family include her husband of 71 years, Donald of the home; son, Hal Burton of Russell, Kansas; brother, Roger Lewis of Wichita, Kansas; six nieces, one nephew, and her beloved Cairnpoo Terrier, Bella.

Jaclyn was preceded in death by her parents, sister Dolores Fitzgerald Brandt, niece, Peggy Fitzgerald Campbell, and Aunt Edith Winters.

&nbsp;A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 P.M., Friday, April 9, 2021 at the Deines Cultural Center in Russell.&nbsp; Cremation has taken place.&nbsp; A Memorial has been established with Palco Art Club.&nbsp;

Richard Scott McTague, 67, died on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at his home 
in Dighton. He was born on January 23, 1954, in Heidelberg, Germany, the 
son of Norman Scott &amp; Amelia Francis (Rutnya) McTague. 
Richard grew up in a military family and lived in various places growing
 up. He graduated high school at Hopewell, Virginia and attended John 
Tyler Community College. He worked as a dog catcher and police officer 
before beginning his military career. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and 
did his basic training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He then was assigned as a
 Radar Tech at Fort Carson and later was a processing Sergeant at the 
Reception Battalion at Fort Jackson in Arcadia, California. From 1988 to
 1989, he was stationed in Seoul, South Korea. He returned to the states
 and was assigned to the Inspectors General Office of the 6th Army at 
San Francisco. After his discharge, he drove a truck for JB Hunt in 
Idaho and later moved to Boulder, Colorado and worked at the Holiday 
Inn and IBM. He then began a second military career as a fulltime 
active reserve in the Colorado National Guard. After that discharge, he 
worked at Kobe BCT making medical equipment in Aurora, Colorado. He 
moved to Dodge City in 2006 and Dighton in 2020. 
He is survived by his Wife- Laurie McTague, 3 Sons- Richard Norman 
McTague, Patrick Thomas McTague and David Edward McTague all of Hubert, 
North Carolina, Step-Daughter- Cally White of Dighton, Brother- Matthew 
McTague of Virginia, 4 Sisters- Mary McTague Rogers of Ohio, Catherine 
McTague of Roanoke, Virginia, Barbie McTague Hairfield of Roanoke, 
Virginia and Patricia McTague of Philadelphia, 11 Grandchildren and 3 
Step-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Parents and 2

Donna Jeanne Towns, 77, of Garden City, was called to her eternal home 
with Jesus at 5:20 a.m. on Friday, April 2nd, 2021, following a long 
battle with dementia. Donna was born November 11,1943 in Garden City, 
Kansas to Glenn and Millicent (Finnup) Corn. She married Delmer E. 
Towns on August 8th, 1959 when they were just 15 and 17 years old. 
 A young married mom, she ambitiously completed her education in the
 evenings and finished school with her graduating class of 1961. She 
was primarily a homemaker and helper in Delmer’s business errands, and 
also worked for a short time as a cook at the Community Congregational 
Church daycare. 
 Before she lost her independence to dementia, she was a long-time 
member of Bible Christian Church volunteering in various activities 
through the years. She was a loving, supportive, and selfless wife, 
mom, sister, grandma, aunt, and friend who never hesitated to drop her 
own plans to help out wherever she was needed. She had a contagious 
laughter, faith, sense of humor, and love for life. 
 Her favorite hobbies through the years included sewing, woodwork 
with painting, playing bingo, yardwork, computer puzzles, taking and 
printing pictures of her adventures, and most of all she enjoyed taking 
fishing trips with the love of her life. 
 Donna is survived by her husband, Delmer, of 61 years; a son, Randy
 (Bonnie) Towns of Waynoka, Oklahoma, and a daughter Ginger (John) 
Motley, of Garden City; grandsons Jody (Conni) Condo of Scotts Bluff, 
Nebraska, Ralph Condo of Garden City, Delmer (Amber) Towns II of Garden 
City, and Ian (Heather) Towns of Evansville, Indiana; granddaughters 
Patricia Ent of Whitehall, Arkansas, Tammy Condo of Garden City, Lisa 
Pfannenstiel of WaKeeney, Kansas, Skye (Trevor) Clark of Kearney, 
Nebraska, and Erika (Justin) Groth of Garden City, 23 great-grandkids, 
and 10 great-great grandkids. She was preceded in death by her parents,
 a son, Allen Towns, a sister, Millicent (Corn) Herman, and a brother, 
Robert Corn. 
 Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 9, 2021
 at Bible Christian Church in Garden City. Burial will follow at Valley

Donna Jeanne Towns

Truman Lee Coffman, 74, of Oakley, died Sunday, April 4, 2021, in Hays, 
KS. He was born January 12, 1947, in Sullivan County, MO, to Willie and 
Bertha (Woody) Coffman. 

After graduating high school, Truman joined the 
United States Navy. He served on the USS Lexington, in the Gulf of 
Mexico, for four years. After leaving the Navy, Truman did construction 
work and started driving truck, which took him to North Platte, NE, 
where he met Yvette Lunkwitz-Humphrey. They decided to elope and on May 
10, 1975, were married in Sallisaw, OK. They relocated to Missouri, 
where Truman managed a farm and then moved to Kansas, where he worked 
for Abercrombie Oil Service. The family took up residence, in Oakley, 
KS, where they lived for over 40 years. Truman was the night shift 
foreman at Mitten’s, in Oakley, KS for over 15 years before purchasing 
his own truck and starting Coffman Trucking. He retired in 2018, after 
15 years of trucking. Truman enjoyed watching NASCAR and his favorite 
driver, Jimmy Johnson. He also enjoyed cheering on the St. Louis 
Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. In his younger days, he 
coached American Legion Baseball and played co-ed softball. Truman spent
 his free time fishing, hunting, gardening, attending auctions and 
appreciating old cars. He loved any time spent with his family, 
especially his grandkids. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother and 3 sisters. 
He’s survived by his wife Yvette, children, Truman Michael (Jennifer) 
Coffman, Danette (Anthony) Repshire, Kaara Coffman and Shannon Herl; 
grandchildren, Braylan Fields, Deagon, Deighton and Kaelynn Herl and 
Kasira, Corbin and Kelton Repshire; siblings, Spencer Coffman, Carol 
(Keith) Blecha and Jesse Coffman (Robert Ridley) and many nieces and 
nephews. 
Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at Baalmann 
Mortuary, Oakley. A Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. 
Thursday, April 8, 2021, at the Mortuary. Burial will take place in

Kay Ruth Bowie, 72, passed away April 5, 2021 at Manor of the Plains, Dodge City, KS

She was born November 4, 1948 in Spearville, the daughter of Thomas 
Carl and Naomi Helen Woodworth Bowie Sr.&nbsp; A lifetime are resident, she 
helped at Arrowhead West.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Hanston, 
participated in the Reach Organization, Night to Shine and delivered 
Meals on Wheels.

Survivors include: sister-in-law, Deanna Bowie, Dodge City; nephews, 
Shannon Bowie, Preston Werner; nieces, Wendy Hoss, Kellie Werner, Vickie
 Rodriguez and Mary Ann Clapp.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee Bowie, Thomas Carl Bowie Jr; two sisters, Ann Werner and Helen Bowie.
