Mildred E. Bentley, 101, died on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at Lane County 
Hospital in Dighton. She was born on May 6, 1919 in Lane County the 
daughter of Daniel Newton &amp; Nora Leatha (Doll) Thomas. She married 
Frank Sardella in March of 1946. She then married Wendell S. Bentley on
 August 14, 1953 at Dodge City. He died on January 16, 1989. 
Mildred grew up on the family farm southeast of Dighton and attended 
Evergreen School District 31 grade school and graduated from Dighton 
High School in 1937. She graduated from Salt City Business School in 
Hutchinson. In 1942 she moved to Los Angeles to work at the Wilshire 
Western Bank of America during World War II. After her divorce she 
moved back to Dighton and worked at the First National Bank. After her 
marriage to Wendell they moved to the Bentley Ranch in Gove County known
 as Valhalla where they farmed and ranched. She was a member of the 
Shields United Methodist Church until it closed and she moved her 
membership to the United Methodist Church in Dighton and became involved
 in the Thrifty Korner. 
She is survived by her Son- Daniel &amp; Katherine Bentley of Lawrence, 
Daughter- Dee Ann &amp; Tracy Wilkison of Dighton, Brother- Larry Thomas
 of Dighton, 2 Grandchildren- Austin &amp; Michelle Wilkison of 
Burlington and Erica &amp; Eric Hendrickson of WaKeeney, 8 Great- 
Grandchildren- Haley Jones, MiKayla Hess, Hunter Jones, Cecily Wilkison,
 Hector Wilkison, Savannah Wilkison, Brody Hendrickson &amp; Macey 
Hendrickson. She is preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, 3 
Brothers- Dean Thomas, Ward Thomas and Marion Thomas and 3 Sisters- Nila
 Dee Thomas, Margaret Ann Smith and Merlyn Dawn Coberly. 
Celebration of Life Service will be at 2:00 PM Thursday at United

Steve James Jacobus Sr., age 79, died on April 29, 2021, at the 
Kearny County Hospital.&nbsp; He was born November 4, 1941, in Sedan, Kansas, 
the son of Charles Marion and Emma “Ines” Jacobus.

He was a member of the Tribune Community until his retirement in January of 2020.

On January 7, 1961, he married Louise May Russell in Scott City, 
Kansas.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on September 23, 2000, in Garden City,
 Kansas.

Survivors include: One Son Daniel (Jody) Jacobus of Lakin, Kansas Six Grandchildren Amanda (Rhett) Morris of Yuma, Coloardo Deeanna Jacobus of Lamar, Colorado David Jacobus of Columbus, Nebraska Rebekah (Ben) Samp of Lincoln, Nebraska Hunter Morrison of La Junta, Colorado Jessica Lee of Gresham, Oregon One Sister-in-law Neva Jacobus of Scott City, Kansas 11 great grandchildren

Steve James Jacobus Sr.

Mary Catherine (Seib) Hilmes, age 86, 
passed away on April 29, 2021, at Via Christi Village, Hays, Kansas. She 
was born on April 25, 1935, in Ness City, Kansas, the daughter of Paul 
and Mary (Stoecklein) Seib. She was raised on the family farm outside of
 Ness City with her nine brothers and four sisters. She graduated from 
Ness City High School in 1953. 
 
On January 23, 1956, Mary entered into marriage with James Lewis Hilmes 
at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ness City, Kansas. Mary and James 
raised their five children in Great Bend, Kansas and were parishioners 
of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. In 2000, after retirement, Mary and 
James moved to Hays, Kansas to be closer to family. There they became 
parishioners of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. They lived 
comfortably in Hays and ultimately moved to Via Christi Village in 2016.

Mary began her work career at the Ness 
County Extension Office shortly after her graduation from high school.&nbsp; 
&nbsp;After her marriage to James, Mary spent many years as a homemaker 
providing unconditional love, care and support to her husband and 
children.&nbsp; During this time, she was also a regular volunteer at St. 
Patrick’s Catholic Church in the school library, for classroom reading 
time, and in a variety of church activities.&nbsp; From 1977 through her 
retirement in 1987, she worked as the company bookkeeper at Home 
Appliance Center in Great Bend.&nbsp;

Mary was devoted to God, to her faith, and
 to her family. Her compassion and empathy could be felt in her presence
 and in all that she did for others.&nbsp; Even as her health and treasured 
memories diminished in her later years, her kind and friendly demeanor 
was eternally evident.

Throughout her life, Mary especially 
valued visits with her parents, siblings and in-laws.&nbsp; She was an avid 
and successful bowler in her community leagues, state tournaments and 
most of all in family holiday bowling competitions with her children and
 grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards and board games, and all 
things that brought her family together.&nbsp; In their retirement years, 
Mary and James made many exciting and educational trips with their 
grandchildren. 
 
Mary was preceded in death by her husband and her parents; two brothers,
 James Seib and Tony Seib; three sisters, Eleanor (Ed) Knoll, Benita 
(Dan) Snyder, and Sister Florence Seib; and two sisters-in-law, Joan 
Seib and Barbara Seib.

&nbsp;Mary is survived by her five children, Terry Hilmes and his wife Kelly 
(Lawrence), Joyce Montelongo and her husband Joseph (Fort Collins, CO), 
Elaine Younger and her fiancé Brad Schaben (Bazine), Rodney Hilmes 
(Ardmore, OK), and Brian Hilmes and his wife Chelley (Edmond, OK); seven
 brothers, Eugene Seib, Paul (Shelby) Seib, Jr., Robert (JoAnn) Seib, 
Tom (Ellen) Seib, Vern (Glenda) Seib, Jerry Seib, and Gary (Gloria) 
Seib; one sister, Lorita (Leonard) Franz; one sister-in-law, Wilma Seib;
 7 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. 
 
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 am on Monday, May 3, 2021 at 
Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Nick Parker 
officiating. &nbsp;Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation 
will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Sunday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on
 Monday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.&nbsp; A vigil service and 
rosary will be at 6:30 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.&nbsp;

Mary Catherine (Seib) Hilmes

Edith A. (Sula) Murphy passed away Monday, April 26, 2021, at the Valley 
View Hospital in Glenwood Springs, Colorado at the age of 95. She was 
born to Anton and Alice (Mares) Sula on October 15, 1925, in Wilson, 
Kansas. She was united in marriage to Paul Murphy on May 15, 1960, in San
 Diego, California. They were blessed with a daughter, Maureen. Paul 
passed away in 2007.
 Edith grew up in Wilson where she attended Wilson High School and 
graduated with the class of 1943. Following her graduation, she set off 
for California where she furthered her education at San Diego State and 
earned her bachelor’s degree in Education. She taught at San Diego 
schools until her retirement in 1961. Edith was passionate about her 
Czech heritage and was a lifetime member of the Opera House and Kansas 
Sokols. She belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star and was a Past 
Worthy Matron. Edith enjoyed spending time with her family and reading.
 She is preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Alice Sula and brother Tony (Evelyn) Sula.
 Edith is survived by her daughter, Maureen (Bobby) Henderson of 
Eagle, CO; nephew, Brett Sula of Salina, KS; and two granddaughters, 
Shannon Henderson (Matthew Lehr) and Ashlyn Henderson.
 A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at 
Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home in Wilson starting at 10:30 AM. Visitation

Fern married William B. Wood in 1948. They lived in numerous 
locations in Kansas including a 15 yr. residence in Liberal.&nbsp; They 
relocated to Pampa Texas in 1971 where Fern retired from C. R. Anthony 
Co.

Fern was born and raised in Claflin, Kansas where she graduated from 
Claflin High School in 1942. She completed business college in Salina, 
Kansas the following year. She had various jobs while following Bill who
 transferred often with Halliburton, Co.&nbsp; Her employers include; KCKN 
Radio Station, Kansas City, The Red Cross @ Great Bend Kansas Airbase, 
Santa Fe RR, Walnut Creek Milling, Taylors Music Co., Reneau Jewelers, 
C. R. Anthony Co. (Ret.) and Dunlap’s in Pampa, Texas.&nbsp; Throughout her 
life Fern loved playing the piano and enjoyed all types of music. Fern 
was an avid bowler who also loved working with ceramics and stained 
glass.&nbsp; She also enjoyed volunteering at the Pampa Senior Citizens 
Center while serving and visiting with friends.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents, Glen A. Dowse and Nellie 
(Stumpff) Dowse of Claflin, Kansas. Also preceding her in death was her 
husband of 71 yrs. William (Bill) Wood from Duncan, Oklahoma.

Fern is survived by her family which includes daughter Barbara (Wood)
 Dale and husband Owen as well as her son Randy Wood and wife Juanell.&nbsp; 
Five Grandchildren, Eight Great Grandchildren, and Five Great-Great 
Grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 4th, 2021 in the Claflin, Kansas Cemetery, with Pastor Diana Webster presiding.

 Fern A. Wood

Martha Joan Keller of WaKeeney, Kansas, passed away April 28, 2021.

Martha was born January 16, 1935, in Humboldt, KS to Warren and Mabel Campbell. She graduated from Humboldt High School. She received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Fort Hays State University.&nbsp;

Martha was married to Roy David Keller on December 6, 1950, in Humboldt. They were married for 68 years. Martha taught business education courses at Quinter High School for 3 years and at Hays High School for 23 years. Martha belonged to the Business Education fraternity at FHSU, Kappa Delta Pi, Chapter CT of PEO, WaKeeney, Literary Club and the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was active in First United Methodist Church teaching Sunday School and serving the church on many committees.

Martha is survived by children Jim (Liesel), Roanne, and John (Pam); son-in-law Keith; grandchildren Matthew (Amber), Julie, Casey (Douglas), Christopher (Stacy), Jenna, Campbell and Sylvia. Her great-grandchildren Hannah, Ethan, Ava, and Samuel. Immediate family survivors also include Paul and Mary Keller, Evelyn Keller and Sharon and Mike Eshleman along with many special nieces and nephews. Martha was preceded in death by husband Roy, daughter Cheryl, and granddaughter Jamie and all her brothers and sisters.&nbsp;

Visitation will be Saturday May 1, 2021, prior to the funeral at 1:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church of WaKeeney. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Bob Clemence officiating. Private burial will be at the Veterans Cemetery in WaKeeney, and she will forever rest with husband Roy.&nbsp;

Martha belonged to the Business Education fraternity at FHSU, Kappa Delta Pi, Chapter CT of PEO, WaKeeney, Literary Club and the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Barbara J. Whipple, 84, passed away April 27, 2021, at Park Lane Nursing Home, Scott City, KS.

She was born April 17, 1937, in Ashland, the daughter of William 
Chester and Alice Louise Betschart Bailey.&nbsp; A longtime area resident, 
she was a homemaker, mother and caregiver to many children and was a 
retired secretary for the Kinsley school district.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Jetmore. She 
enjoyed being involved with 4-H, where she also was a leader and was an 
outstanding seamstress.

On September 20, 1959, she married David E. Whipple in Jetmore.&nbsp; He survives.

Other survivors include: son, Kyle D. (Valarie) Whipple, Scott City; 
two daughters, Davean L. (Jeff) Cramer, Kinsley, DaLena M. (Paul) 
Whipple-Miller, Wichita; brother, Bill Bailey, Medicine Lodge; four 
grandchildren, Teryl (Erika) Whipple, Kaytlin (Nick) Biel, Tanner 
Whipple, Tali Whipple and one great grandson, Harlan Sherrill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Kyleen J. Whipple and a brother, John Bailey.

Logan resident William “Bill” Edwards passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at the Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, NE at the age of 69.

He was born June 26, 1951, in Salina, KS the son of Robert and Emma (Foulke) Edwards.

He was united in marriage to Carolee Orton in Logan, Utah on February 27, 1987.&nbsp; She survives of Logan, KS.

Other survivors include his three daughters Kimberlea Palmer&nbsp; of Castle Rock, CO, Amberlea Edwards&nbsp; of Norton, KS, and Leamarie Edwards of Logan, KS; three grandchildren; and a sister Mary Bains of McPherson, KS.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 30, 2021, at the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Phillipsburg, KS.&nbsp; The services will be streamed on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan, KS.

William 'Bill' Edwards

Virginia Lee (Hoepker) Lindquist died Wednesday, April 28th,
 2021, at the Brookdale Tallgrass in Wichita, Kansas. She was born 
September 10, 1929, in Chanute, Kansas, to Arthur and Florence (Gaudern) 
Hoepker of Humboldt, Kansas.

Virginia grew up in Humboldt, Kansas and graduated from Thomas Edison
 High School in San Antonio, Texas. &nbsp;She attended Neosho County Junior 
College in Chanute, Kansas. On September 26, 1948, she was united in 
marriage with Ralph B. Lindquist at Humboldt, Kansas. He preceded her in
 death on May 8, 2000.

Ralph and Virginia met while working at Self Service Grocery in 
Chanute, and while living in Chanute they were blessed with two 
daughters. They purchased Self Service Grocery in Yates Center and 
welcomed a third daughter. They spent most of their lives working 
together as owners and operators of Self Service Grocery in Yates Center
 until their retirement. Following retirement Virginia and Ralph 
traveled extensively, something they both thoroughly enjoyed.

&nbsp;Following Ralph’s death she relocated to Newton, Kansas until moving to Brookdale.

Virginia loved flowers, and especially loved watching her daughter Cindy’s flower garden fill with color each year.

Virginia was active in PEO and BPW (Business Professional Women) in 
Yates Center for many years.&nbsp; She served on the USD 366 Board of 
Education. Virginia and Ralph were both involved with the Yates Center 
Saddle Club for many years. They were members of the Yates Center 
Presbyterian Church and active in the Mariners for many years.

Virginia loved her daughters and was a very active mother, attending 
all her daughters’ activities from school, to sports to showing and 
training horses, as a chauffeur and cheerleader for them.

Once she had grandchildren she loved every minute spent watching them grow up.

Survivors include, daughters: Cindy Lindquist, Valley Center, Kansas;
 Patricia and husband Doug Howard of Wathena, Kansas and Kathleen and 
husband Mark Fabrizius of Ogallah, Kansas; grandchildren: Nick Howard 
and wife Molly,&nbsp; Pike Road, Alabama; Alex Howard and wife, Maygan&nbsp; of 
Shawnee, Kansas_; Savannah Butler and husband Gordon, Edmond, Oklahoma 
and Sierra Lampe and husband, Cory, Ogallah, Kansas; Great 
grandchildren: Zach Howard and a second Baby Howard is expected this 
summer, Montgomery, Alabama; Harper and Hale Howard, Shawnee, Kansas; 
Eli, Nora, Ella and Beckett Butler, Edmond, Oklahoma; and many nieces 
and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, Betty Roets and Donna Paul.

Graveside services will be held 1:30 P.M. Monday, May 3, 2021, at Neosho County Memorial Park Cemetery, Chanute, Kansas.

The casket will remain closed but family and friends may pay respects
 to Mrs. Lindquist and sign the register book from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. 
Sunday at Campbell Funeral Home.

Virginia Lee (Hoepker) Lindquist

Roberta Jean Newcomer, age 85, of WaKeeney, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital. She was born January 21, 1936, to Brighton and Ruth (Adkinson) Arnold in Hays, Kansas. Roberta was united in marriage to Dale Newcomer on August 8, 1954, in WaKeeney, and they were married for 66 years.&nbsp;

Roberta “Bert” had numerous interests, hobbies, and passions. However, if you knew Bert well, boy oh boy did she love sports.&nbsp; Whether it was never missing a track meet to watch her boy's high jump or screaming at the refs on TV during a KU basketball game, the girl was competitive.&nbsp; She and Dale were known to fly across the country at the last minute to attend a grandchild’s playoff game!&nbsp; Bert was an avid golfer who was quietly “over-competitive.” &nbsp;If you played against her in the local woman’s golf league, let’s just say you were talked about a bit ugly over dinner, especially if you beat her that day.&nbsp; She very much hated cheating, and only allowed it in her life if it was Dale while playing dominos.&nbsp; Bert was an avid runner up to the age of 80!! &nbsp; Most everyone in WaKeeney has almost run her over when the crazy girl would be out at 6:00 am in January with a wind chill of 10 degrees. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Bert attended Fort Hays State University and played oboe in the marching band. She loved music!&nbsp; She was an avid pianist and was also an excellent vocalist.&nbsp; In her younger years, she played the trumpet and violin along with the piano and oboe.&nbsp; Bert was very active in the local community. She was past president of the CT-PEO Sisterhood.&nbsp; She and Dale were avid bridge players and loved the friendships they developed within this area of life. &nbsp;&nbsp;

She was married very shortly after college to her husband Dale and&nbsp;initially worked&nbsp;at First Federal. She and Dale eventually became local business owners and they owned and operated the Gambles hardware store for many years. Most all true local&nbsp;Wakeeney-ites&nbsp;were patrons of the store and we all loved seeing them at the store along with their faithful basset hound dogs.&nbsp; Bert and Dale owned the Newcomer Furniture store along with their son Rex for the past 30 years.&nbsp; The entire Newcomer family always considered it an honor and a blessing that all the local people patronized their businesses and they always thought of everybody as their friend, not just a customer.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Newcomers were in business for over 60 years and the business continues under new ownership in wonderfully capable hands.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Lastly, but of utmost importance, Bert loved Jesus!&nbsp; She had a deep, personal relationship with her Savior, and you will find her currently residing at the feet of Jesus Christ.&nbsp;

Those surviving Roberta include her beloved husband of the family home; sons Rex (Jeanine) Newcomer of WaKeeney and Jay (Anne) Newcomer of Crystal River, Florida; grandchildren Ashley Newcomer (Dan Bader) of Shawnee, Kansas, Brooke (Roger) Klein of Lyons, Kansas, Rachael Newcomer of McPherson, Kansas, Shay (Mallory) Newcomer of Atlanta, Georgia, Macon (Brittany) Newcomer of Houston Texas, and&nbsp;Casidy&nbsp;Newcomer, of Houston, Texas; great-grandchildren Owen Klein, Elsie Klein, and Henley Newcomer; and sister Joann "Jody" (Daryl) Bender.&nbsp;

Roberta is preceded in death by both parents and sister Gwen Hansen.&nbsp;

Roberta Jean Newcomer

Patrick Bernard Linsner, 64, passed away February 4, 2021, at Clara 
Barton Hospital in Hoisington. He was born July 17, 1956, at Great Bend 
to Robert &amp; Lois (Ehly) Linsner.

A lifetime area resident, Patrick was a current Great Bend resident. 
He was a truck driver for Old Dominion and a member of Prince of Peace 
Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Patrick enjoyed hunting, 
fishing, crafts, tinkering with cars and was a jokester. He especially 
enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include, his wife, Emma Linsner of Great Bend; a son, Jason
 Linsner and wife Desiree of Great Bend; two daughters, Laura Linsner, 
and Lisa Linsner, both of Great Bend; three brothers, Joe Linsner of 
Hoisington, Larry Linsner and wife Charlotte of Victoria, and James

Jeffrey "Jeff" Lawrence Brock, age 59, of Schoenchen, Kansas died Sunday, April 25, 2021, in Schoenchen.&nbsp; He was born December 24, 1961, in Dalhart, Texas to Jackie Eugene and Karen Loraine (Young) Brock.&nbsp;

He retired from working for HD Oil Well Drilling as a tool pusher.&nbsp; Jeffrey was accomplished in all aspects of oil drilling. He loved his family, and his dog, Lucky.

Survivors include his brothers; Jack Brock, and Steven Brock; both of Amarillo, TX; Greg Brock of Oklahoma; sisters Debra Brock Bateman, Leavenworth, KS; Shirley Brock, Dalhart, TX; and Jessica Ramos of Dayton, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Michael.

Don Leon Kern, 74, passed away April 27, 2021, at his home in Great 
Bend. He was born December 17, 1946, at Great Bend, to Ervin &amp; 
Lucille (Murphy) Kern. He married Donna Dino February 19, 1966 at Great 
Bend. She died July 11, 1985. He then married Connie Fisher and they 
later divorced. He then later married Lisa Marie on March 12, 2021.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Don worked for Allen Drilling and 
most recently worked for E&amp;E Paint &amp; Glass. Don was a member of 
Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church. He especially 
loved to spend time with his family and his American Pit Bull Remi.

Survivors include, his wife, Lisa Kern of the home; three sons, Lafe 
Kern and wife Erin of Hutchinson, Dino Kern of Morrison, Colo., and 
Reggie Kern and wife Meghan of Great Bend; a daughter, RaeGina Werth of 
Great Bend; a brother, Jerry Kern and wife Kayleen of Great Bend; a 
sister, Judy Cobb of Kansas City, Kan.; twelve grandchildren, Lafe Kern,

Judith “Judi” Charbonneau, 70, formerly of Hays, died Sunday, April 25, 2021, at Benefis Peace Hospice in Great Falls, Montana.

She was born August 22, 1950, in Hays, 
the daughter of Teresa Bernice (Thyfault) and Jerome Valentine Benoit.&nbsp; 
In 1968, she graduated from Palco High School as valedictorian of her 
class.&nbsp; On May 6, 1989, she was united in marriage to James A. “Jim” 
Charbonneau at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Damar, and they celebrated 
28 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on March 15, 2018.&nbsp;
 While in Hays, she was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic 
Church.&nbsp; She enjoyed riding horses, going to church, spending time with 
people, and having visitors at her home.&nbsp; Judi liked to keep her mind 
sharp by listening to audio books, and writing was a huge part of her 
life as it was a beautiful means of communication for her.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include a son: Carey Wise of 
Olathe, a daughter: Lanell Bailey and husband Steve of Great Falls, MT, a
 brother: Steve Benoit and wife Sherri of Blaire, NE, three sisters: 
Marilyn Skolaut and husband Marvin of Olmitz, Lydia Neu and husband Bob 
of Lawrence, and Thelma Berland and husband Tim of Damar, a

Colorado, he was a retired Division Manager for KN Energy.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Scott City, Kansas,
 and a US Navy Veteran of WWII.&nbsp; Freeman was a Lifetime member of the 
American Legion, Lions Club, Rotary Club, Elks Lodge, and was a Past 
President of the Chamber of Commerce in Scott City, Kansas.

On July 3, 1977, he married Melva J. Bailey in Holdrege, Nebraska.&nbsp; She survives.

Survivors include his Wife - Melva Knight of Scott City, Kansas, One 
Daughter - Susan &amp; David Thomas of Yuma, Colorado, Two-Step Sons - 
Gary &amp; Sherlynn Bailey of Scott City, Kansas, Jerry &amp; Cindy 
Bailey of Scott City, Kansas, One Sister - Dena Loukota of Sun City 
West, Arizona, Eight Grandchildren, Twenty Great Grandchildren, and Four

Elmer John “E.J.” Richmeier, age 88, of Shell Knob, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 24, 2021, at his home.

He was born April 12, 1933, in Salina, 
Kansas, the son of Fred and Philomena (Rome) Richmeier.&nbsp; On April 15, 
1952, in Hays, Kansas, he was united in marriage to Mary Jean Aich, who 
survives.&nbsp; Also surviving are one son, Glenn Richmeier and his wife 
Jennifer of Brooksville, Florida; two daughters, Lisa Bascue and her 
husband Brad of Manhattan, Kansas and Brenda Spain and her husband Danny
 of Aurora, Missouri; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents;
 two sons, Fred Joseph and Gary; one daughter, Janice; two brothers, 
Cleo and Vernon; one sister, Helen and two grandchildren, Christopher 
Glenn Richmeier and John Michael Rose.

E.J. graduated high school at St. Joseph
 Military Academy in Hays, Kansas, and then graduated from Kansas State 
University in two years and nine months with a four year degree, a 
Bachelor of Science in Agriculture.&nbsp; He was a District Conservationist 
employed by the USDA Soil Conservation Service.&nbsp; He was a member of Holy
 Family Catholic Church and Holy Family Men’s Club.&nbsp; In 1958 he joined 
the Knights of Columbus earning the 4th Degree, also served 
as Past Grand Knight and Past District Deputy.&nbsp; He was also a member of

1952, in Hays, Kansas, he was united in marriage to Mary Jean Aich, who

husband Brad of Manhattan, Kansas and Brenda Spain and her husband Danny
 of Aurora, Missouri; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.Preceding him in death were his parents;
 two sons, Fred Joseph and Gary; one daughter, Janice; two brothers,

Glenn Richmeier and John Michael Rose.E.J. graduated high school at St. Joseph
 Military Academy in Hays, Kansas, and then graduated from Kansas State 
University in two years and nine months with a four year degree, a 
Bachelor of Science in Agriculture.&nbsp; He was a District Conservationist 
employed by the USDA Soil Conservation Service.&nbsp; He was a member of Holy
 Family Catholic Church and Holy Family Men’s Club.&nbsp; In 1958 he joined 
the Knights of Columbus earning the 4th Degree, also served 
as Past Grand Knight and Past District Deputy.&nbsp; He was also a member of 
the Lions Club.&nbsp; E.J. was a notorious story teller and had an amazing

Henrietta Karlin, 104, Hays, died Monday, April 26, 2021, at HaysMed.

She was born June 30, 1916, in 
Catharine, the daughter of Pauline (Doerfler) and William R. Staab, Sr.&nbsp;
 She was united in marriage to Fidelis Karlin, and he preceded her in 
death on October 2, 1967.&nbsp; She was a homemaker and worked in the kitchen
 at St. Joseph Military Academy.&nbsp; Her memberships included St. Joseph 
Catholic Church and the VFW Post #9076 Auxiliary.&nbsp; Henrietta generously 
served others by volunteering with numerous church ministries, the St. 
Anthony Hospital Auxiliary, Goodwill, and founding the Hays Good 
Samaritan Auxiliary.&nbsp; She enjoyed growing flowers and maintaining her 
red roses, traveling with her family and groups, boating at Cedar Bluff 
and Milford Lakes, cooking, and her grandchildren’s visits.&nbsp;

Survivors include three sons:&nbsp; Norman 
Karlin and wife Marilyn of Salina, Robert Karlin and wife Paulette of 
Cape Coral, FL, and Bernard Karlin and wife Jan of Great Bend, a 
son-in-law: Norman Giebler of Hays, a brother: Gerald Staab and wife 
June of Longmont, CO, 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 4 
great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her

the Phillips County Retirement Center, Phillipsburg, at the age of 84.

She was born September 13, 1936, in Bird City, KS the daughter of William and Lillis (Jennings) Manion.

Helen was united in marriage on February 28, 1953, in Lebanon, KS to LeRoy Eller.&nbsp;

Helen was a Certified Medical Aide and worked with the Phillips 
County Hospital Long Term Care, Kensington Nursing Home, then for 
Phillips County Retirement Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband LeRoy; a daughter 
Susan Eller; two sons Glenn and Willie Eller; grandson-in-law Travis 
Jensen; and a grandson Daniel Collins.

Survivors include a daughter Donita Buck and husband Ron of McCook, 
NE; daughters-in-law Karen Eller of Kirwin and Starla Conner of 
Phillipsburg; a brother Bill Manion and wife Carol of Topeka, KS; 3 
grandsons Brent &amp; wife Kelsey of Kirwin, Scott and wife Abbey of

Helen M. Eller 

We lost a Beautiful soul, Janice M. (Keller) Becker, 78, from earth 
into heaven. She was trapped in her body on earth with a very tough 
fight with dementia. She remained kind, happy, resolute and devoted to 
her husband and family through it all. A class act in sickness and in 
health. Such a wonderful role model for many. Humble and unselfish, 
always there for us when we needed her. She peacefully passed in her 
sleep, Sunday morning, April 25, 2021, at Showalter Villa, Hesston.

Born on December 16, 1942, the youngest and only girl to Charlie and 
Lucile (Duddy) Keller in Great Bend. She married her first and only 
love, Jerry Becker, June 20, 1960, in Seward. They were married for 59 
years.

Jan was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, business 
woman, cub scout leader, drum Corps mom, active church member of Holy 
Cross Catholic Church in Hutchinson, Argonne Rebel director and former 
teacher at Holy Cross Catholic School in Hutchinson. She enjoyed camping
 and boating but especially loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include, her husband, Jerry Becker of the home; four 
children, Bradley Becker and wife Sandi of Great Bend, Gregory Becker 
and Michael Becker, both of Springfield, Mo., and Diane Grigg and 
husband Travis of Denton, Tex.; thirteen grandchildren, Zachary, Jordyn,
 Luke, Ryan, Lindsey, Malorie, Natalie, Matthew, Haley, Jace, Cole, 
Cannon, and Ainsley; and five great grandchildren. &nbsp;She was preceded in 
death by her parents; and three brothers, Norman Keller, Marvin Keller 
and Jim Keller.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 4, 2021,
 at Bryant Funeral Home, with Altar Society rosary at 4:00 p.m. and 
Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at

Great Bend, with Father Don Bedore presiding. Interment will be in

Beula Mae “Boots” Haxton, 90, died at Park Lane Nursing Home, Scott 
City, on April 22, 2021.&nbsp; She was born on Feb. 26, 1931, the youngest of
 eight children, to Ernest G. and Jennie (King) Walz, on the family farm
 southwest of Grinnell.

Her first three years of education were at Grinnell Grade School 
before her mother and the five youngest children moved to Oakley in 
1941. She graduated from Oakley High School in 1949.&nbsp; Upon graduation, 
Beula began working for her brother, Floyd, at Walz Jewelry for two 
years and then became a teller at the Farmers State Bank in Oakley.

She married Don Haxton on Sept. 6, 1953. He died on April 29, 2010, in Scott City.

of the Hugoton Hermes for a year.&nbsp; They were in between newspapers for 
another year, living at Norton and Alma, Nebr., before purchasing the 
Kiowa County Signal in Greensburg in 1970. They purchased The Kinsley 
Mercury in 1974.&nbsp; The couple semi-retired to Bella Vista, Ark., in 1984 
when they sold The Mercury. Two years later they sold The Signal.&nbsp; The 
couple moved to Scott City in 2007.Beula was an avid golfer, she loved to sew and she enjoyed dancing and big band music.She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sisters and 
their husbands, Ida and John Suter, Betty and Duane Gibson, and Della 
and Don Lamb; four brothers, Ernie and Icie Walz, Floyd and Leah Walz, 
Eddie and Marguerite Walz, and Christ Walz; two grandsons, Tyler and 
Ryan Haxton; and a son-in-law, Randy Pottberg.She is survived by her three children, Rod Haxton and his wife, 
Kathy, Scott City, David Haxton and his wife, Sherri, McPherson, and 
Joni Pottberg and Myles Veeder, Dodge City; four grandchildren, Jade and
 Troy Gilpin, Fredrick, Colo., Heather Haxton, McPherson, Jaci and Dusty
 Brake, Salina, and Dustin Pottberg, Dodge City; two step-grandchildren,
 Tony Jasnoch, Kearney, Nebr., and Melissa Jasnoch, Scott City; two of 
her favorite nieces, Edith Clark and Janet Collins, both of Oakley; a 
sister-in-law, Marjorie Jeambey, Lincoln, Nebr.; and numerous other 
nieces and nephews.Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation.The funeral service will be held Fri., April 30, 2:00 p.m., at Price
