Smith Center resident Kathy J. Willis passed away Monday, April 5, 2021, peacefully at her home.&nbsp; She was 68.

Kathy was born September 20, 1952, in Alma, NE the daughter of Milo and Norma Jean (Stevens) Gitchel.

She met and married Dennis L. Willis on November 11, 1972, at the Englewood Wesleyan Church in Phillips County, KS. &nbsp;

Kathy loved to keep busy with handiwork.&nbsp; She loved sewing, crocheting, and creating dream catchers.&nbsp; All of which were shared with family and friends.&nbsp; She also liked to take time during her day to sit and watch the birds and squirrels in the yard.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughters Violet Sue and Pearl Mae; and brothers, Allan and Elbert Lee Gitchel.

Survivors include her husband Dennis L. of the home; daughters Amber Joy Clark of Walla Walla, WA and Dawn Marie Osbern of MN; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; a brother Delbert Gitchel of Wilcox, NE; and two sisters Eileen Branstetter of Salina, KS and Lois Haas of Phillipsburg, KS.

Cremation was planned.&nbsp; Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2021 in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg, KS.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, May 7, 2021 at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, 1115 2nd Street, Phillipsburg, for visitation.

Darlene Kay Agan, 83, of Oberlin, Kansas passed away May 1, 2021 at the 
Good Samaritan Society of Decatur County. She was born October 23, 1937 
in Rural Thomas County, Kansas to Oscar and Severina (Johnson) Nelson. 
 Darlene grew up on the family farm five miles North of Winona, KS. 
She attended grade and high school in Page, KS. Darlene married Dennis 
Agan on December 19, 1956 in Colby, KS. She was a life-long resident of 
Western Kansas. Darlene loved Swedish Weaving. 
 She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dennis in 2016;

Alfreda M. Hammerschmidt, 92, formerly of Hays, died Thursday, April 29, 2021 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

She was born September 10, 1928 in 
Hays, the daughter of Celestine and Josephine (Staab) Karlin.&nbsp; In 1947, 
she graduated from Girls Catholic High School.&nbsp; On June 16, 1948 she was
 united in marriage to Adolph J. Hammerschmidt in Severin, and they 
celebrated 62 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on 
December 31, 2010.&nbsp; She worked at St. Anthony Hospital as a candy 
striper, ward clerk, and licensed practical nurse and at Hiltz 
Janitorial Supply until her retirement.&nbsp; Her memberships included 
Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the Hays Daughters of Isabella
 Circle #254, and was a Perpetual Eucharistic Adorer.&nbsp; She enjoyed 
cooking, baking, and reading short stories in magazines and Reader’s 
Digest.&nbsp; Her faith and family were most important to her.&nbsp; She enjoyed 
visiting family, was a good listener, and faithfully prayed the rosary.&nbsp;

Survivors include a son: Steve 
Hammerschmidt and wife Janet of Fleming Island, FL, two daughters: Tammy
 Gottschalk and husband Jeff and Lisa Staab and husband Doug all of 
Holcomb, a daughter-in-law: Jolene Burd and husband Mike, a brother:

Patricia Ann Haley, 73, died May 2, 2021, at Azria Health of 
Ellinwood.&nbsp; She was born July 27, 1947, in Hoisington, Kansas, the 
daughter of &nbsp;Robert J. and Mayola Fae (Beatty) Haley.

A longtime Claflin resident, Patricia was baptized in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.&nbsp;

Survivors include; a brother, Dennis Haley of Merrionette Park, 
Illinois; 4 nieces and 1 nephew and several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Roberta Haley and Mary Barta.

Janice Irene (Persell) Colgan was born January 3, 1941 in rural Phillips
 County, KS, the youngest of 3 daughters born to Dale and Mona (Molzahn)
 Persell. She passed away on May 2, 2021 at the age of 80, at the Good 
Samaritan Center, in Atwood, KS. 
Janice grew up in Norton, KS, where she attended grade school. She 
graduated High School from Holdrege High School, in Holdrege, NE, in 
1959. Janice attended business school in Denver, CO, where she earned 
her Business degree. On June 3, 1961, she married James L. Colgan, in 
Orleans, NE. James was in the Air Force which took them to Perrin 
Air Force base in Sherman, TX. To this union, two sons were born, Timothy
 James Colgan and James (Jim) Leonard Colgan Jr. The family of 4 
relocated to Atwood in 1968. 
Janice spent her entire adult life working as an office manager at 
various business in Atwood. She retired from her job at the Natural 
Resource Conservation Service. Other businesses included Farm Bureau, 
Warta Chiropractic and Montgomery Wards. 
Janice loved her family, which included her Siamese cats. She enjoyed 
attending her grandchildren's music concerts, reading, bowling, and 
attending Bible study. She was a member of the United Methodist Women 
and the Red Hatters. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jim; brother-in-Law 
Paul Roth; sister Wanda Fisher, and grandson Bryce Colgan. 
Janice is survived by her son, Tim and Lori Colgan, of Atwood and their 
children, Lyndsi, of Atwood, Sarah Reunitz, of Curaçao, Cameron, of 
Lawrence and Harrison, of Manhattan; her son Jim and Pam Colgan, of 
Colby, and their son Dalton (MaKayla), of Colby; sister Carol Roth, of 
Kearny, NE; brother-in-Law Neil Fisher, of Spokane, WA and many nieces 
and nephews.

Jeremy was born November 19, 1979, in Sturgis, Michigan, the son of Joseph E. and Sandra K. (McClain) Slemp.&nbsp; He was a resident of Hoisington, Kansas, for one year, moving from Bison, Kansas.&nbsp; A 1998 graduate of Constantine High School, Constantine, Michigan, he was the Central Kansas Commercial Account Manager for Advance Auto Parts.

He was an active member of the Hays Soccer Club, Hays, Kansas, both as a player and a youth coach.&nbsp; He was a life member of the NRA, and loved to hunt.

On September 14, 2002, he married Ashley K. Henry at Hays, Kansas.&nbsp;

Survivors include:&nbsp; his wife, Ashley Slemp, Hoisington, Kansas; four sons, Dakota Slemp, Dillon Slemp, Dawson Slemp, and Deklan Slemp of the home; his father and step mother, Joseph “Joe” and Linda Slemp, La Crosse, Kansas; his mother, Sandra Hummel, Constantine, Michigan; his maternal grandmother, Mary McClain, Three Rivers, Michigan; one sister, Lacy Quake (Andrew), Three Rivers, Michigan; and one step brother, Ron Reed (April), La Crosse, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his step father, Lee Hummel; his paternal grandparents, James and Billie Slemp; and his maternal grandfather, Kenneth McClain.

The family will host a celebration of Jeremy’s life Friday, May 7, 2021, at 5:00 P.M. at 1006 2nd Street, Albert, Kansas.&nbsp; Guests are welcome and may bring a side dish or dessert if they so choose.

Jeremiah  Joseph 'Jeremy' Slemp

Roger N. Brown, 60, Walker, died Saturday, May 1, 2021, at HaysMed.

He was born July 15, 1960, in Russell, 
the son of Richard and Bertha (Windholz) Brown.&nbsp; He attended Victoria 
High School.&nbsp; On September 22, 1979, he was united in marriage to Karen 
Hoffman in Vincent.&nbsp; They later separated.&nbsp; He worked in the oilfield, 
owned Brown’s Fish Farm, and worked for Russell County doing road 
maintenance.&nbsp; He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, riding UTVs, and
 being with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his two sons: Chad 
Brown and wife Amanda of Hays and Clint Brown of Gorham, two brothers: 
Richard Brown, Jr. and Rodney Brown and wife Michelle all of Gorham, 
three sisters: Colene Schmitt and husband J.W. of Gorham, Jolene Purvis 
and husband Joe of Lubbock, TX, and Galene Steckel of Russell, three

Velma Jean Maxwell, 83, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, died May 14, 2020, at The Gardens Nursing Home in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.

Jean was born on October 11, 1937, in Gorham, Kansas, the daughter of Herbert and Lydia (Dreiling) Hammersmith. She grew up in Gorham and graduated from Gorham High School.

She was an RN and retired from St. Francis Hospital located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She loved flowers and gardening, sewing and quilting, and dancing.

Surviving family include, 3 daughters Linda, Lisa, and Laura; her brother Gary Hammersmith and his wife Linda; 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

A small service and burial of the cremains will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, at the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Gorham, Kansas.

Longtime Goodland resident Marjorie Joyce Quast, age 80, was called 
home Friday, April 30, 2021, surrounded by family and friends.&nbsp; 
She was born October 27, 1940, in Pueblo. Colorado the daughter of Jack 
and Ruth (Lawrence) Van Ness.&nbsp; Marge grew up in Lake George and Rye, 
Colorado and graduated High School in Rye in 1958.&nbsp; She then attended 
Western Bible College and the Emily Griffith School of Nursing and 
graduated with her LPN in 1964.&nbsp; On January 13, 1965, she married John 
Quast in Pueblo, to this union four children were born Monica, Dale, 
Randy and Tohnna.&nbsp; They moved to Goodland in 1971.&nbsp; 
Marge was a nurse for 40 plus years, she worked at Good Samaritan 
Center, Clinic Nurse for Dr McCullough’s Office, Golden West, State of 
Kansas Homemaker Supervisor, and the Kit Carson Correctional Center in 
Burlington, CO. She looked forward to summer trips to the Rocky 
Mountains, camping, fishing, and anything else outdoors and playing 
cards.&nbsp; Marge was proud to tell of her college days when she was a 
figure-eight race car driver.&nbsp; She dearly loved spending time with her 
family and her church family, she didn’t know a stranger always chatting
 and hugging everyone she met and didn’t hesitate to let her family know
 that the true loves of her life were her grand dogs.&nbsp; Marge was a 
member of the Calvary Gospel Church of Goodland.&nbsp;

Marjorie Joyce Quast

Shirley Ruth Green, 91, a loving and 
devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher and 
follower of Jesus Christ died peacefully in the early morning hours of 
May 2, 2021 at Hays Medical Center.

Shirley was born Feb. 12, 1930 in Great
 Bend, KS, to Clarence and Anna (Geil) Seeber.&nbsp; A fourth generation 
Kansan, Shirley spent the early years of her life near Great Bend on the
 Seeber family farm homesteaded by her great-grandfather, a Civil War 
veteran.&nbsp; She graduated from El Dorado High School in 1947 as class 
Salutatorian. She met her future husband, Joseph (Dick) Green at Wichita
 University (now Wichita State).&nbsp; Dick and Shirley married June 4, 
1948.&nbsp; They moved to Hays in 1952, where they raised six children.&nbsp;

Shirley resumed her college education 
at Fort Hays State College in 1962 after the birth of her last child. 
Within four years, she graduated Summa Cum Laude with two Bachelor 
degrees and a Master’s of Science Degree.&nbsp; Shirley began her teaching 
career as a science instructor at Fort Hays State in 1967.&nbsp; Most of 
Shirley’s career teaching science was at Hays High School and Hays 
Junior High School.&nbsp; The added income from teaching made it possible for
 all six children to go to college.&nbsp;&nbsp;

After 13 years of teaching science, she
 left teaching to help Dick with his business, Green Oil Operations. She
 was elected to the board of Unified School District 489 in 1980 and 
served for several terms. She continued her life of service to others as
 a board member at First Call for Help for 20 years. She delivered Meals
 on Wheels for years and prepared and served meals at church funeral 
dinners until she was 90 years old. Shirley and Dick provided a home for
 many foster children and served on mission trips at home and abroad, 
building homes for people who had none. In 2016, she was honored for 57 
years of service at First United Method Church in Hays. As a mother, a 
teacher, a community leader, and a passionate disciple of Christ, 
Shirley touched thousands of lives.

Beginning in the late 1970s, Shirley 
and Dick traveled widely in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, 
Central, and South America as well as across the United States 
especially in the West. They loved our national parks.&nbsp; Shirley and Dick
 went on several Elder Hostel trips, always taking opportunities even 
when retired to keep learning and growing.&nbsp; The sciences and the natural
 world were subjects of lifelong fascination for them both. Shirley and 
Dick were chosen to be among the first group of American geologists and 
scientists permitted to enter China in 1981.&nbsp; The two were married for 
63 years.&nbsp; Their door was always open to their kids' friends, for a 
meal, a place to stay, or just to hang out.

Shirley was preceded in death by an 
infant, Karen; her husband, Dick; her son, Craig; her parents, her 
brothers Harlan Seeber and Glenn Seeber; and numerous in-laws. Survivors
 include her brother Dean (Susan) Seeber of Wichita, her sons Richard 
(Pam) of California, MO; Larry (Patsy) of New Hope, MN; Jerry (Susan) of
 Hays; Robert (Melissa) of Bethesda, MD; daughter-in-law Tina (Craig) of
 Livingston, TN; and daughter Krista (Len) Mize of Arvada, CO. Shirley 
had 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren with one on the way. 
Shirley Green was one of a kind and will be forever missed by her 
family, friends and all who knew her.

A celebration of life will be at 10:00 
am on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at the Hays First United Methodist Church 
with Rev. Mike Rose officiating.&nbsp; Private family inurnment will follow

Shirley Ruth Green

George Albert Pywell passed away on April 30, 2021, at his home in 
Zurich, KS at the age of 83. He was born on February 24, 1938, to Percy 
and Effie (Ouderkirk) Pywell on the family farm in Rooks County near 
Zurich. George married Carolin Jo Mongeau on May 26, 1959, at St. Ann’s 
Catholic Church in Zurich. They were blessed with two children: Bentley 
and Stacey.
 
 George grew up in Rooks County and graduated from Palco High School 
in 1956. He attended Wichita Technical School for engineering. He then 
worked for Roths Electronics and KAYS TV station until being drafted 
into the U.S. Army in 1960. He was discharged in 1962 due to his 
mother’s passing and returned home to take care of his family. He then 
worked at the TV station in the control room and farmed for 5 years. 
George went on to worked in the oil field for BJ Oil, Jim Norton, and 
Crawford Supply. In 1998 he and his son Bentley started a trucking 
business, K Bar S Trucking, where he worked until he retired at 80 years
 old in 2017. George enjoyed his motorcycle club (Spoke Benders), card 
games, camping, golfing, and watching K-State Basketball and K.C. 
Chief’s Football; and he cherished spending time with his family.
 
 George is survived by his wife Carolin Jo Pywell of the home in 
Zurich; daughter, Stacey (Chris) Bobek of Denver, CO; brothers, Richard 
(Carol) Pywell of Zurich and LeRoy Pywell of Wichita, KS; sisters, 
Florann Young of Boise, ID, Wilma (Dale) Hiser of Cleveland, TN, and 
Beverly Barr of Nampa, ID; five grandchildren, Kylee Pywell, Dalton 
Bobek, Shelbe (Tanner) Darnell, Simone Bobek, and Cassidy Pywell; and 
two great-grandchildren, Theodore and Veronica Darnell.
 
 He is preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Effie Pywell; son,
 Bentley Pywell; sister-in-law, Lois Pywell; brother-in-law, Harry 
Young; and grandson, Ethan Pywell.
 
 George always had a smile on his face and never missed the 
opportunity to make someone laugh. He knew how to have fun and enjoy 
life along the way. Life wasn’t always easy, but he took the hand he was
 dealt and made the best of it. He was very proud of his family, and he 
always put them first. He would lend a hand to anyone in need. George’s 
memory will live all through those who knew him.
 
 A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at 10:30 AM 
at the First Christian Church in Plainville. Burial will follow at the 
Pleasantview Cemetery in Palco. Visitation will be Wednesday 2:00 PM 
until 8:00 PM at the funeral home in Plainville.Memorials are suggested

 George grew up in Rooks County and graduated from Palco High School 
in 1956. He attended Wichita Technical School for engineering. He then 
worked for Roths Electronics and KAYS TV station until being drafted 
into the U.S. Army in 1960. He was discharged in 1962 due to his 
mother’s passing and returned home to take care of his family. He then 
worked at the TV station in the control room and farmed for 5 years. 
George went on to worked in the oil field for BJ Oil, Jim Norton, and 
Crawford Supply. In 1998 he and his son Bentley started a trucking 
business, K Bar S Trucking, where he worked until he retired at 80 years
 old in 2017. George enjoyed his motorcycle club (Spoke Benders), card 
games, camping, golfing, and watching K-State Basketball and K.C. 
Chief’s Football; and he cherished spending time with his family.
 
 George is survived by his wife Carolin Jo Pywell of the home in 
Zurich; daughter, Stacey (Chris) Bobek of Denver, CO; brothers, Richard 
(Carol) Pywell of Zurich and LeRoy Pywell of Wichita, KS; sisters, 
Florann Young of Boise, ID, Wilma (Dale) Hiser of Cleveland, TN, and 
Beverly Barr of Nampa, ID; five grandchildren, Kylee Pywell, Dalton 
Bobek, Shelbe (Tanner) Darnell, Simone Bobek, and Cassidy Pywell; and 
two great-grandchildren, Theodore and Veronica Darnell.
 
 He is preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Effie Pywell; son,
 Bentley Pywell; sister-in-law, Lois Pywell; brother-in-law, Harry 
Young; and grandson, Ethan Pywell.
 
 George always had a smile on his face and never missed the 
opportunity to make someone laugh. He knew how to have fun and enjoy 
life along the way. Life wasn’t always easy, but he took the hand he was
 dealt and made the best of it. He was very proud of his family, and he 
always put them first. He would lend a hand to anyone in need. George’s 
memory will live all through those who knew him.
 
 A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at 10:30 AM 
at the First Christian Church in Plainville. Burial will follow at the 
Pleasantview Cemetery in Palco. Visitation will be Wednesday 2:00 PM 
until 8:00 PM at the funeral home in Plainville.Memorials are suggested

George Albert Pywell

Pauline Miller, 89, Hays, died Friday, April 30, 2021 at Via Christi Village.

She was born September 26, 1931 in 
Munjor, the daughter of Paul and Ida (Befort) Leiker.&nbsp; In 1948, she 
graduated from Schoenchen High School.&nbsp; On October 24, 1959, she was 
united in marriage to Patrick J. Miller in Munjor, and they celebrated 
31 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on January 18, 
1991.&nbsp; She was a farmwife and homemaker.&nbsp; For many years, she 
volunteered at the ARC Thrift Shop.&nbsp; Her memberships included Immaculate
 Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the Hays Daughters of Isabella Circle
 #254.&nbsp; She was an avid Kansas City Royals fan, enjoyed crocheting, and 
loved her grandchildren.

Survivors include a son: Patrick 
Miller, Jr. and wife Lea of Hays, a daughter: Paulette Seib and husband 
Frank of Munjor, five grandchildren: Jill Seib-Schaub and husband Ryan 
of Kansas City, MO, Becky Cable and husband Tim of Chapman, Emily Miller
 and fiancé Wade Woydziak of Hays, Jason Seib of Overland Park, and 
Timothy Miller of Hays, four great grandchildren: KayLee, Tucker, Peter,
 and Addison, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her 
parents, her husband: Patrick, two brothers: Gilbert Leiker and wife 
Gloria and Norbert Leiker and wife Betty, five sisters: Virginia Schmidt
 and husband Bill, Alexia Robben and husband Elmer, Mary Frank and

Pauline Miller

Donald Fred Lennemann, son of Fred &amp; Margaret ( Colgan) 
Lennemann, was born August 31, 1937 in Orleans, NE.&nbsp; He passed away on 
April 27, 2021 at the Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, KS at the age of 83.&nbsp;

He grew up on the family farm near Orleans where he attended school, 
graduating from Orleans High School.&nbsp;&nbsp; After graduation, Don worked some
 odd jobs before enlisting in the US Army in 1955.&nbsp; He was with the 
Military Police stationed in Korea.&nbsp; Don was honorably discharged in 
August 1957 with the rank of Corporal.

On January 24, 1963, Don was united in marriage to Linda Mckellips in
 Oakley, KS.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two children; Deborah &amp; 
Daniel.&nbsp; The couple made their home in Colby until 1968 when they moved 
to Phillipsburg where Don went to work for Permian Oil.&nbsp; He worked there
 for about a year before going to work as a truck driver for Farmland 
Industries where he worked until his retirement.

Don’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, working in his yard &amp; 
attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.&nbsp; He was a lifelong member
 of the Catholic Church.

&nbsp;In March of 2020, due to failing health, Don moved to Beloit where he was a resident at Hilltop Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Joann Elley &amp; his grandson Andrew Yates.

Survivors include his wife Linda of Webb City, MO; daughter, Deborah 
Yates &amp; husband Jim of Carl Junction, MO; his son, Daniel &amp; wife
 Gina of Phillipsburg, KS; grandchildren: Michael Yates &amp; wife 
Evelin, Scott Yates, Jessica Conrad &amp; husband Grant, Alivia McClain 
&amp; husband Brett, Bethany Schneider &amp; husband Matt &amp; Stuart 
Lennemann; his sister, Lucille Weinand of Alma, NE &amp; 8&nbsp; great 
grandchildren.

A Rosary service will be held Sunday, May 2 at 6:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 3, 
in the SS Philip &amp; James Catholic Church with Father George 
Chalbhagam officiating. The service will be streamed live on the

Patricia Luea

Carole Leanne Adamson passed away suddenly, and tragically too soon, at 
the young age of 16 on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. 

Carole was born to 
Cory and Susan (Kasperbauer) Adamson on June 7, 2004 in Hays, Kansas. 
 Carole lived in several places throughout her short life. She moved 
to Zurich about 2 years ago and attended Plainville High School. 
Although her time on this earth was short, she made many friends and 
impacted many lives. While in Plainville, she gained a community that 
admired not only her beauty, but her character. She was a selfless, 
hardworking, intelligent young woman. It was evident to those that got 
to know her that she would put anyone she cared about above herself. She
 was artistic, loved music, and enjoyed time spent hunting and fishing. 
She was a Junior at Plainville High School and was aspiring to be either
 a Veterinarian to take care of animals, which she loved; or to be a 
Social Worker and take care of kids. Her aspirations were just a 
testimony to the person she was and who she would have become.
 As friends and family, and even those that didn’t know her, mourn 
Carole and the tragic loss of a young girl in our tiny community, we can
 find solace that she is in a better place and in a place where she 
doesn’t have to put others above herself but be above all those she 
loves. The memories of Carole will remain in our hearts forever.

Wesley Gene Linder Jr., 51, passed away April 28, 2021 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.

He was born August 27, 1969 in Fresno, California; the son of Wesley 
Gene Sr. and Barbara Hermes Linder.&nbsp; A longtime area resident; he was a 
MHDD Tech at Larned State Hospital.

He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church, Larned; enjoyed bull riding, watching paranormal shows and documentaries.

On April 29, 1999 he married Mary Jones in Pawnee Rock, Kansas.&nbsp; She survives.

Other survivors include; three step-sons, Richard (Samantha) Emily, 
Larned, Robert (Beth) Emily, Cobalt, Missouri and Ronald (Melanie) 
Emily, Belpre; a sister, Jeannine (Chris) Potter, Kalispell, Montana; 
nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by; his parents.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be 3:00 p.m. 
Friday, May 7, 2021 at First Southern Baptist Church, Larned, with 
Pastor Mark Slattery presiding.&nbsp; Inurnment will be in the St. Regis 
Cemetery, St. Regis, Montana at a later date.

Alvin Frank Korte, 79, died Thursday, April 29, 2021, at his daughters’ 
home in rural Pierceville, KS. He was born May 7, 1941, in Brewster, KS,
 to Henry and Mary (Juenemann) Korte. When Alvin was 2, the family moved
 to a farm, near Selden, KS, where Alvin attended Violenta Country 
School through the 3rd grade, then Selden Elementary School until 8th 
grade. 
Alvin helped on the family farm and then did construction. In 1963, he 
joined the Army National Guard and was stationed in Bloomington, 
Maryland before serving 8 years in the reserves. 
Alvin married Marilyn Cheney at Sacred Heart Church, in Colby, on May 
22, 1964. To this union was born a son, Tommie and two daughters, Pamela
 and Mindy. Alvin and Marilyn owned Korte Trucking Inc., of Garden City,
 KS, for 44 years, before retiring in 2009. In their 57 years of 
marriage, they traveled all over the continental United States, Alaska 
and Canada on their motorcycles. Alvin especially loved camping in the 
Colorado Mountains and at Scott Lake. 
Alvin was preceded in death by his son Tommie Korte; parents, Henry 
&amp; Mary Korte; in-laws, Bill and Blanche Cheney; brothers LeRoy, 
Ronald and Norbert Korte; sister Delores Aumiller and brothers-in-law, 
Earl and John Cheney and Pete Aumiller. 
He leaves to mourn his wife, Marilyn Korte; daughters, Pam (Matt) Oakes 
and Mindy (Brad) Hibler; sisters, Pat (Clem) Mumm and Darlene (Bob) 
Clair; grandchildren, Austin Coleman, Skyler Wallace, Michael and 
Melissa Carl and Randy Oakes; 4 step-grandchildren; 2 
great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and close friends. 
Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Monday, May 3, 2021, at Baalmann Mortuary 
Colby, KS. A Rosary will take place at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 4, at 
Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Selden, KS, followed by a Funeral Mass 
at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place in the Selden Cemetery. Memorials 
may be made to the Heartland Cancer Center and sent in care of Baalmann
