Phillipsburg resident William E. Baker passed away April 19, 2021,&nbsp; at his home in Phillipsburg at the age of 77.&nbsp; He was born Sept. 18, 
1943, in Abilene, KS.

Survivors include his son Lewis of Phillipsburg; daughters, Michelle 
Beach &amp; June Craig of Phillipsburg; brothers Tom &amp; Lewis; 
sisters, Judy Tye &amp; Deanna Hollingsworth; 7 grandchildren &amp; 10 
great grandchildren.

A private family graveside service will be held Saturday, April 24, at 
10:00 a.m. in the Fairview Cemetery. The service will be streamed on the

On the afternoon of April 18, 2021, Sean departed Cheyenne County Hospital in Saint Francis, KS surrounded by family. Destination: The Big Fishing Hole in the Sky. Sean was 49 years old.

Sean was born to Donna Mitchell Miller and Michael “Mick” Miller on September 24th, 1971, in Goodland, KS. The oldest of two children, Sean was known for his big heart, quick wit, and a smart mouth.

He attended Goodland schools—lived, worked, hunted, and fished in various locations of Northwest Kansas all his life.&nbsp; Shortly after high school, Sean snagged the catch of his life, Sandy and they tied the knot April 13th, 1991.

Sean was a proud and devoted father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle, and friend.&nbsp; Together he and Sandy celebrated their Angel Child, Darcy, and wrangled four rowdy, equally stubborn boys who have all grown into fine young men.&nbsp; Seth, Shay, Saje, and Shadd all enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working alongside their dad. &nbsp;

In his free time, Sean could be found tending to his turkeys, or cuddling his many chickens.&nbsp; An avid outdoorsman, Sean enjoyed hunting, and a bad day’s fishing was better than a good day doing anything else... Well almost, Sean’s proudest accomplishment was gaining the title Grandpa.

Sean loved his family, grandkids, nieces, nephews, and friends whole heartedly.&nbsp; Though we will all remember his colorful language and hand gestures, goofy faces, and practical jokes, mostly Sean will be remembered for his love and devotion to those closest to him.

Sean was preceded in death by infant daughter Darcy Lynn Miller, maternal grandparents- Donna and John Butts, paternal grandparents- Myron and Darlene Miller, and mother and father-in-law O.D. and “Janny” Mote.

Sean is survived by wife of 30 years Sandy Mote Miller, four sons- Seth (Cailee), Shay (Rachel), Saje (Nataly), and Shadd, grandchildren- Lila, Oliver, and Koah, parents- Donna Mitchell Miller, and Mick (Leslie) Miller, sisters- Tara Avelar (Ponch), Kelli Minor, and Randi Jo Gray (Malcolm), brother-in-law Tracy Mote (Jo), sisters-in-law Kelly Tipton (Randy), and Stephanie Rinehart (Ruben).&nbsp; Sean is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and close family friends.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, April 23, 2021, at 11:00 AM MT at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Goodland with Pastor Don McMillan officiating.&nbsp; Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Goodland Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2021, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland.

Roma Lee (Kennedy) Irby, 93, died April 17, 2021, at the Graham County 
Hospital in Hill City, Kansas. She was born June 21, 1927, to Carroll 
Earl and Blanche Olive (Lee) Kennedy in Niles, Kansas. Roma Lee had one
 brother, Carroll (Ken) Kennedy and four sisters: Ilene Wallace, Ruth 
Norsworthy, Ora Mae Irby, and Doris Woods. 
 The family moved several times during Roma Lee’s childhood due to 
the Depression Era. One of her favorite memories was while they lived 
in Colby. At that time, she was in the fifth grade and was chosen to be
 “Student of the Month”. In recognition and honor of this award, she 
was invited to attend the Lyon’s Club dinner. This was a very special 
experience and memory that lasted the rest of her life. 
 Roma Lee graduated from Manhattan High School in Manhattan, Kansas,&nbsp; in 1945. She was accepted to and attended the Kansas University of 
Nursing School in Kansas City, Kansas, where she graduated with her 
Diploma Nursing Degree in 1948. Here she made several friends that she 
remained close the rest of her life.
 Upon graduating from nursing school, she attempted to enlist in the 
United States Army as an Army Nurse. However, due to health issues she 
could not join. Feeling disappointed and not sure what she wanted to 
do, she moved to the Chicago area where she lived with her brother, Ken 
and sister-in-law Lois and sister, Ilene, and brother-in-law Ben where 
she helped with their children and worked at a nearby hospital. Later 
she returned to the Topeka area where she learned of a new hospital 
opening in Wakeeney. Roma Lee was one of the first nurses that helped 
open this hospital.
 On her weekends off from the hospital, a friend from nursing school,
 Betty (Stephen) Wertz, would bring her to Bogue. Betty introduced her 
to her soon-to-be husband, Donald Eugene Irby. The couple were married 
July 6, 1952.
 Don was enlisted in the United States Air Force. Shortly after they
 were married, he was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. Their first 
daughter, Becky, was born while they lived there. Upon Don’s discharge 
from the Air Force, they returned to Bogue. They had three more 
daughters: Patty, Jackie, and Cindy and one son, Dan. 
 Roma Lee was a stay-at-home wife and mother until her youngest, Dan,
 went to school. Seeking to get back to her nursing, Roma Lee took a 
part time job at the Bogue Grade School as the school nurse. She later 
became the school nurse for Unified School District #281.
 On May 9, 1967 Roma Lee lost her beloved husband, Don, leaving her 
to raise their five children alone. Through her faith in God and her 
strong sense of duty, Roma Lee persevered. She worked not only as a 
school nurse during the school year but in the summers, she worked at 
the Plainville and the Graham County hospitals. One summer she was 
hired as the Graham County Nurse. Roma Lee not only used her medical 
knowledge in the work force, but for the community as well. She was 
always available to those needing a blood pressure check, an allergy 
shot, or just a listening ear. Each treatment was followed with a hug 
and a fresh baked cookie. You could also find Roma Lee volunteering 
wherever needed. She served as a Sunday School teacher and helping with
 service project through UMW and TPM clubs. Roma Lee had a love for 
reading that caused her to volunteer to serve on the Graham County 
Library Board where she was instrumental getting the new Graham County 
Library built and establishing a countywide bookmobile that brought 
books to all the outlying communities for many years.
 Roma Lee will forever be known as the town “coffee lady." The 
coffee pot was always on and the door was always open. No matter the 
time of day, you could find a table full of friends, relatives and 
neighbors sitting together solving all world’s problems. Everyone was 
welcome. 
 Roma Lee was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents, 
Carroll and Blanche; her daughter, Becky; her sisters: Doris and Ilene, 
and her brother, Ken. 
 Left behind to celebrate her life are daughters: Patty and husband, 
Larry Thurlow of Bogue, Jackie and husband, Jeff Johnston of Champlain, 
Minnesota, and Cindy and husband Dean Savell of Midlothian, Texas; her 
son Dan and wife, Jana of Bogue; her sisters: Ruth and husband, Ken 
Norsworthy, of Raleigh, North Carolina and Ora Mae Irby of Logan; 
grandchildren: Nolan and Amanda Rome, Nathan and Matt Rome, Jennifer 
and Jesse Schmidtberger, Lance and Cindy Thurlow, Roger and Amy Thurlow,
 Andrew and Sara Johnston, Joe and Lu Johnston, Tiffany and Billy 
Clifton, Jessica Savell, Jake Savell, and Dylan and Brandie Irby; great
 grandchildren: Lily Thurlow, Josie Schmidtberger, Chauncey Rome, Aimee 
Johnston, Asher Thurlow, Daxtyn Irby, Sean Johnston, Julia 
Schmidtberger, Evelyn Clifton, Owen Johnston, Cullen Johnston, Olivia 
Clifton, Sebastian Rome and Berklie Irby, a multitude of nephews and 
nieces and many, many friends.
 Roma Lee always had a witty saying, poem or song that helped her 
through the rough patches. When you were at your wits end, the best 
advice she would pass along would be “ This too shall pass.” Advice we

 N. Redman was born on December 14, 1968, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Robert
 and Beverly (McNerney) Redman and passed away on April 9, 2021, in 
Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 52 years, 3 months and 26 days. Robert 
attended school in WaKeeney, Kansas and later at the Youthville facility
 in Dodge City, KS.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Robert
 worked at several jobs, but he was the happiest when he was building 
pallets through a program at Youthville.&nbsp; He later relocated to Hays, 
Kansas to be near his mom and sister’s family where he worked at 
Schilleci's Deli and Best Radiator Shop.&nbsp; He had such admiration for his
 employers who always treated him with kindness. Robert had a memory of 
an elephant. If he went somewhere, he always remembered the address from 
that time forth. You never got lost with Robert in the car. He 
remembered everybody's birthdays and phone numbers as well and he could 
recite them off the top of his head.&nbsp;

At
 the time of his mother's death, Robert moved to the Lincoln, Nebraska,&nbsp; area to be closer to his sisters and their families for the remainder of
 his life.

Laurie L. Hill, age 54, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 19,

Vera Marie (Bennett) Musser passed away on November 18, 2020 at Grand 
Villa in Grand Junction, Colorado. She was born on October 31, 1926, to 
Roland Matthew Bennett II and Hattie Myrtle Ridgway Bennett of Alma, 
Nebraska.
 Vera grew up in Alma until meeting Bert Musser at a farm sale in 
Smith Center, Kansas. Bert and Vera dated all her senior year and were 
married January 18, 1945 on her parent’s wedding anniversary at the 
First Presbyterian Church. While living in Smith Center they ran what 
came to be known as Musser Oil Company. During time there they welcomed 
son, Ray and then daughter, Carol to join big brother. Vera was a 
stay-at-home mom who not only cared for her children, but for friends’ 
children. She was involved in their church. The family moved to Denver 
in 1955. 1960 brought a new addition to the family, baby Bob to play 
with Ray and Carol. They moved to Greeley in 1962. They purchased 
Greeley Auto Supply in 1965.
 Vera was active not only in her children’s activities. She was 
Social Secretary of Women’s Association for the First United 
Presbyterian Church. Guardian Treasurer of Jobs Daughters. She was also 
Worthy Matron of Order of Eastern Star. Member of Social Order of 
Beauceant, and member of the Red Hat Society.
 Vera and Bert thoroughly enjoyed years of travel with Vogue 
Motorcoach group. They were active in El Jebel Shriners Mariners 
organization. Square dancing was something they both loved to do. For 
years they also spent winters in Mesa, Arizona. She returned to Greeley 
after Bert had passed away. Vera lived in Greeley until after the death 
of beloved daughter, Carol in 2018. Moving to Grand Junction, Colorado 
she spent her last years to be near son, Ray and family.
 Vera is survived by two sons, Ray (Kristy) Musser and Robert Musser.
 Pete Feit (Carol deceased 2018). Grandchildren are Kerri Feit Justus 
(Chad), Jarrod (JR) Musser, Kelsey Musser Friesen (Jer), Nikki Feit 
Dinges (Tony), Stephanie Sleight (Ryan), and Cassandra Hammer (Bruce). 
Vera’s joys were her great grandchildren. Reisa Sleight, Pete Dinges, 
Kale Sleight, and Skylar Friesen. Other family members (Laura Clark) and
 close friends.
 Vera was preceded in death by husband, Bert Musser (1991) and 
daughter, Carol Feit (2018). Her parents had already been deceased.

Phillipsburg resident Ralph W. Bohl passed away Friday, April 16, 2021, at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg at the age of 98.

He was born October 11, 1922, in Phillips County, KS the son of Conrad J. and Lena S. (Carsten) Bohl.

Ralph was united in marriage to Eileen Rowland on October 20, 1945, in Stuttgart, KS.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on November 24, 2018.&nbsp;

He was also preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, 2 brothers, and four grandchildren.

Survivors include his 2 sons James and Steve both of Phillipsburg; 2 daughters Judy Fuchs of New Albany, IN and Pat Sheneman of Holdrege, NE; 7 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 10 great great grandchildren.

Cremation was planned.&nbsp; A private graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2021 in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg, with Pastor James Peterson officiating.&nbsp; The services will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page.

Lloyd Ross McConnell, 85, passed away Monday, April 12, 2021, at Downs Care &amp; Rehab Center.

Mr. McConnell was born December 31, 1935, in Downs, Kansas, to Wiley and Mabel (Knieling) McConnell.  He attended and graduated from Downs High School in 1954.  He attended U.S. Trade School for mechanics in Kansas City.  His work career took him to Hill City, Beloit, Cawker City, and led him back to Downs where he worked for LeRoy Brees and Kenny Watts at B&amp;W Service from 1957-1997.

Mac enjoyed fishing with friends and playing pool at the Senior Center, as well as delivering meals for them for 10 years.  He was an avid KU Jayhawk and Kansas City Chiefs fan.  He watched every game he could along with watching NASCAR.  Mac loved woodworking and made several items around his home as well as gifts for family and friends.

Mr. McConnell is preceded in death by his parents, Wiley in 1983, and Mabel in 1996 and cousin, Fred Carnes.  He is survived by first cousins:  Dodee Gasper of Longmont, Co., Sharon McDaniel of Cleveland, OK., Mardella Rous of Hays, Ks., and Waunita Carnes of Edmond, OK, Kenneth Knieling of TN. and Barbara Knieling of UT and special friend, Kathy Begnoche.

Arleda Mae Short

Brenda McDowell-Struble, 62, of Medford, Oklahoma passed away peacefully
 at home surrounded by her family on Thursday, April 15, 2021. 
 Brenda was born on September 12, 1958 in Smith Center, daughter of Glen Everett and June Joleen (Holmes) McDowell. 
 She received her education from Kensington Public Schools where she 
was active in the music program playing the French Horn, was a 
cheerleader for the Gold Bugs, and was crowned Homecoming Queen her 
senior year. She graduated in 1976. She continued her education at Fort
 Hays State University graduating in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in 
Education. She taught elementary education for over 30 years in Wichita
 and Goddard, Kansas, and also Medford, Oklahoma. 
 Brenda was a brilliant and beloved teacher and mentor who was 
awarded teacher of the year several times. She felt that teaching was 
God’s calling for her. She touched so many lives and will be remembered
 for her generous heart and loving spirit.
 Brenda’s greatest love were her two children, Jason and Erin, their

 at home surrounded by her family on Thursday, April 15, 2021. 
 Brenda was born on September 12, 1958 in Smith Center, daughter of Glen Everett and June Joleen (Holmes) McDowell. 
 She received her education from Kensington Public Schools where she 
was active in the music program playing the French Horn, was a 
cheerleader for the Gold Bugs, and was crowned Homecoming Queen her 
senior year. She graduated in 1976. She continued her education at Fort
 Hays State University graduating in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in 
Education. She taught elementary education for over 30 years in Wichita
 and Goddard, Kansas, and also Medford, Oklahoma. 
 Brenda was a brilliant and beloved teacher and mentor who was 
awarded teacher of the year several times. She felt that teaching was 
God’s calling for her. She touched so many lives and will be remembered
 for her generous heart and loving spirit.
 Brenda’s greatest love were her two children, Jason and Erin, their 
spouses, and her 7 grandchildren. She embodied the unconditional love of

Mary Jane Bender, 65, of Russell, Kansas, died on Sunday, April 11, 
2021, at the Russell Regional Hospital Emergency Room in Russell, Kansas

Jane was born on December 25, 1955, in Gorham, Kansas, the daughter 
of Herbert and Lydia (Dreiling) Hammersmith.&nbsp; She grew up in Gorham and 
graduated from Gorham High School and lived in the Gorham and Russell 
area most all her life.&nbsp; She was married to Jerry Suchy and from this 
union they were blessed with 3 sons Jerry, Jason and Jamie.&nbsp; Later she 
and Jerry were divorced but she was blessed to find love again and was 
united in marriage to Dwayne Bender on July 5, 1991, in Gorham.&nbsp; She 
was the office manager for Rapid Cash in Russell, for 20 years.&nbsp; She 
enjoyed sewing, going to the lake, fishing, bird and squirrel watching, 
wood working, thrift shopping, drag racing, drinking beer and playing 
corn hole.&nbsp; Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, 
especially spending time with her grandchildren, watching them play 
sports and spoiling them.

Surviving family include her husband Dwayne of the home; sons Jerry 
Suchy and wife Tara Brown of Russell, Kansas, Jason Suchy and wife

William King Bright Jr. was born on March 2nd, 1945, and passed away at home next to his beloved wife Lynn on April 17th, 2021.

William was born in Kewanee, IL to William King Bright Sr. and Gladys (Brown) Bright. The family then moved to Sandy, OR only to return to Kewanee, IL where sister Sandra Lynn was born 2 years later. The family moved again to finally settle in Bell Gardens, CA where Bill and Sandy grew up. Bill remained in the family home until moving to Quinter, KS in 2018. Bill joined the Navy before graduating high school and left for boot camp directly after graduation. He traveled extensively while in the Nave including Japan, Alaska, Hawaii, and Vietnam where Bill saw 4 years of combat. He returned to California where he met his wife. Lynn lived next to his best friend Tom Zeek.&nbsp;

Lynn and Bill married in Las Vegas, NV. Born to this union were William King Bright III and Shannon Marie (Bright) Morris. The unofficially adopted Chrystal (Mountjoy) Sanchez as well.&nbsp;

Bill worked at various jobs, but his longest employment was a press setup operator for National Oring for almost 33 years. Bill enjoyed fishing, spending time with his grandchildren, reading about trains, watching John Wayne movies, and Gunsmoke, word searches, yard work, and decorating for Christmas. Bill and Lynn both retired in 2012 and Moved to be closer to their son Billy.&nbsp;

Bill's health became worse over the last few years, spending a short time in the LTC, to then be brought home to be cared for by his wife, granddaughters Cheyenne and Carrie Amos, Cassidy Janik, and son Bill and daughter-in-law Boni until his passing.&nbsp;

William is survived by his wife Lynn of the home; son Bill (Boni) Bright; daughter Shannon Morris; adopted daughter Chrystal (Mark) Sanchez; grandchildren Mary Grace and Thomas Lee Bright, Cheyenne (Carrie) Amos, Cody Anderson, Joshua Anderson (Shayla Huggins), Nakia Pierce, May Pierce, and Abby, Taylor Janik (Scorpio Mason), and Cassidy Janik; great-grandchildren Allison and Lillian Bright, Katana and Osiris Mason. Alvin Mader, age 94, of Quinter, KS passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021, at his home in rural Sheridan County. Alvin was born in rural Sheridan County on July 30, 1926, to Martin and Mary (Basgall) Mader.

Alvin attended Riverside School where he completed the 8th grade. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1946. Alvin was united in marriage to Esther Kinderknecht on April 24, 1950, they were happily married for 69 years. Alvin learned about hard work and life growing up on a farm with a big family. After he was married, farm and family remained at the center of his life. He enjoyed gardening, planting fruit trees, doing things with his family; fishing, riding horses, playing cards, and working with them on the farm. Later in life, he enjoyed visiting his married children and traveling with them.

Alvin is survived by his children, Rodger Mader (Barb) of Hoxie, KS, Kirby Mader (Rita) of Quinter, KS, Dennis Mader (Edna) of Collyer, KS, Deb Balluch (Randy) of WaKeeney, KS, Janice Porter (Bob) of Derby, KS, and Greg Mader (Becky) of Quinter, KS; 24 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren; sisters Lillian McDermitty of Denver, CO and Esther Befort (Jim) of Broomfield, CO.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 3 brothers, Ray, Sylvanius, and Herbert; 5 sisters, Mary, Hilda, Armella, Josie, and Angie; grandchild Brian; and one great-grandchild Gabriel.

Alvin was a good man and neighbor. He was faithful to his God, family, and community. He lived and loved simply and strongly; he will be sorely missed.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Our much beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, Raymond 
“Ray” LeRoy Smith, 88 1/2, of Abilene, KS passed away on April 17, 2021,
 at home, in the presence of family.

Raymond was born Oct. 7, 1932 in Athol, Smith County, Kansas. He was 
the third eldest of nine children born to David Andrew and Ruby Beatrice
 (Stice/Steiss) Smith. His family moved to Goodland, Kansas, where he 
and his father and brothers farmed on the Golden Ranch.

On Aug. 3. 1952, Raymond was joined in marriage, to Ina Belle Adams, 
of Goodland. He was quickly drafted during the Korean War, but was sent 
to France, for 3 years, without his new wife. They were married nearly 
53 years, when she passed, in 2005.

Raymond’s career was spent serving his country in the U.S. Army, 
where he rose to the rank of Sergeant Major (E-9). He also served the 
U.S. Postal Service for 10 years, before retiring. He enjoyed time with 
family, watching TV and fixing cars.

Raymond is survived by his children, Bonita Garcia (Dennis) of 
Pueblo, CO; Marcía Cox of Abilene, KS; Cathleen Cooper (Robert) of 
Arley, Alabama; and Darryl (Cathy) Smith of Ocoee, FL; 10 grandchildren;
 brother, Eugene (Doris) Smith of Yuma, CO; sister, Florence (Dennis) 
Beals of Briggsdale, CO; several nieces, nephews and extended family 
members.

James Robert “Jim” Vance, 70, died on Saturday, April 17, 2021, at his 
home in Lane County. He was born on May 28, 1950, at Topeka and on 
October 19, 1950, was adopted by Rev Robert B. &amp; Violet M. Vance. He
 married Harriet Cartmill on September 28, 1974, at Dighton. 
Jim graduated from Russell High School in 1968 and attended Oklahoma 
City University for a short time. He moved to Dighton in 1970 and 
worked for Larry Neeley for 20 years, ran his custom baling business for
 3 years and worked at Lane County Feeders for 9 years. He was a member
 of the United Methodist Church in Dighton where he spent time on the 
Administration Board and was a long time member of the church choir. He
 was a participant in the community melodramas and dinner theaters but 
his biggest joy was his grandchildren and being a farmer. 
He is survived by his Wife- Harriet Vance, 3 Sons- Mark &amp; Nicolle 
Vance of Scott City, Steve Vance of Norton and Bryce &amp; Lisa Vance of
 Scott City and 6 Grandchildren- Megan Vance, Cody Vance, Cauy Vance, 
Evie Vance, Grady Vance and Maya Vance.

Jim graduated from Russell High School in 1968 and attended Oklahoma 
City University for a short time. He moved to Dighton in 1970 and 
worked for Larry Neeley for 20 years, ran his custom baling business for
 3 years and worked at Lane County Feeders for 9 years. He was a member
 of the United Methodist Church in Dighton where he spent time on the 
Administration Board and was a long time member of the church choir. He
 was a participant in the community melodramas and dinner theaters but 
his biggest joy was his grandchildren and being a farmer. 
He is survived by his Wife- Harriet Vance, 3 Sons- Mark &amp; Nicolle 
Vance of Scott City, Steve Vance of Norton and Bryce &amp; Lisa Vance of
 Scott City and 6 Grandchildren- Megan Vance, Cody Vance, Cauy Vance, 
Evie Vance, Grady Vance and Maya Vance. 
Graveside Service will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday at Dighton Memorial 
Cemetery with Rev Berniece Ludlum officiating. Memorials are suggested

James Robert 'Jim' Vance

Orva June Sanchez, age 90, surrounded by her family, died on April 17, 
2021, at Rooks County Health Center, Plainville, Kansas. 

She was born at
 the Adventist Sanitarium in what is now St. Helena, California on June 
10, 1930, to Roy Cole and Bessie Wilson, and was the youngest of three 
children. After graduating from Ozark Academy she attended Union College
 where she graduated with a degree in Music Education. June met Paul 
Sanchez at Union College and they were married in 1958. 

June was a 
substitute teacher and music teacher for many years in the USA, Costa 
Rica, and Brazil. She also held various administrative positions 
throughout the Seventh-Day Adventist organization in the US and Chile. 
Over the course of her life, June contributed thousands of selfless 
hours providing all forms of music to uplift the lives of others in 
worship and life events, always believing in the inherent worth and 
goodness of everyone she came into contact with through her ministry of 
music. One of her greatest investments in life was in people. She loved
 making new friends and always had a listening ear across all 
generations.
 June Sanchez is survived by her husband Paul Sanchez; three sons 
Ralph of Thompsonville, Illinois; Dan, his wife Karen, of Plainville; 
Scott, and his husband Robert Haverkamp, of Gloucester, Massachusetts; 
and three grandchildren, Emily, her husband David Gammie, of Streator, 
Illinois; Makayla, of Plainville, Kansas; and Nathaniel, of Plainville, 
Kansas.
 She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Bessie Cole, and her brothers, Kenneth and Samuel “Gene.”

Orva June Sanchez

Dr. Carolyn Kathryn Ehr, 86, of Las Cruces, NM, who dedicated her life to teaching and to helping others, died on April 10, 2021 in Las Cruces after a prolonged illness. 

She was born in Muskegon, MI, on November 21, 1934 to Gerald and Eleanor (Adamczyk) Ehr, the only sister in a family with elder brothers Donald and Richard and younger brother, Robert. All predeceased her.

Carolyn grew up in Muskegon, MI, where she attended St. Mary’s High School and graduated with the school’s final graduating class in 1953. She joined the Dominican sisters in Grand Rapids, MI. In 1958, while with the Dominicans, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Aquinas College, which she attended on a 4-year academic scholarship. She remained with the Dominican order for 17 years.

Carolyn considered herself, first and foremost, a teacher. She earned a Masters in Religious Education as well as a Masters in Mathematics, and taught mathematics at Aquinas College for six years. Carolyn also taught mathematics at the University of Florida as a Visiting Professor, and then 
as an Instructor in the Department of Math in the Franklin College of Arts &amp; Sciences at the University of Georgia, where she successfully defended her Ed.D. thesis in 1979.

In 1987, she took a position in the Mathematics Department at Fort Hays State University in Hays, KS, and taught at FHSU until her retirement. During her tenure, in addition to her teaching and administrative duties, she worked tirelessly to advance the position of women in mathematics through various leadership positions and organizations: she served as the President of the Kansas Association of Teachers of Mathematics 1981-1982, and in 1983 was elected Treasurer of Women in Mathematics 
Education – National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. She also worked with Princeton Educational Testing Service to create questions for standardized tests.

Upon her retirement from FHSU, she endowed the Dr. Carolyn Ehr Mathematics scholarship, awarded each year to a student of Math Teacher Education.

She was active in Catholic parishes everywhere she lived, taking on roles of minister of communion, reader at Mass, and being part of committees of religious education, social action and social justice. An avid volunteer outside of her church as well, she was a member of the Board of Directors for the Ellis County, KS, Habitat for Humanity from its inception, among other organizations in and around Hays. In New Mexico, most recently she was part of Indivisible, an organization dedicated to voter registration efforts and support of progressive candidates for office. 

Everywhere Carolyn lived, she spent many volunteer hours working to make the lives of local children and their families better. All aspects of Carolyn’s life were filled with intellectual growth and social involvement. She made friends wherever she lived, many of whom stayed in touch until the end of her life. Though she had played party bridge for many years, late in life she made new friends while taking lessons to learn 
duplicate bridge, playing until her health no longer permitted it. Carolyn loved to travel! Some of her most memorable trips were to Australia, Japan and Europe. She almost never missed a family wedding, of which there were many – her brothers had 16 children among them. She enjoyed getting together with her brothers and their extended families, finding a sense of sisterhood with their spouses Marge, Luanne, Mary, and Ginny. Carolyn was an active and much-loved presence in the lives of her many nieces and nephews.

Her family, friends, vocation, and faith were her touchstones, and the world is a poorer place without her in it. She is survived by sisters-in-law Virginia Ehr, Luanne Ehr, and Mary Ehr; fifteen nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; great friends Rosalie and Weeden Nichols, Faith St. Marie, Ellen Veed, Louise Barnitz, Carol Cyrs, and many others.

Dr. Carolyn Kathryn Ehr

Elma “Honey” Auchard, 100 years of age, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away 
Friday, April 9, 2021 at Hillside Country Living, Bryan, Ohio, where she
 was a resident. 

 Elma was born February 22, 1921, in Woodston, Kansas, 
the daughter of the late James G. and Edna G. (Grimes) Breckenridge.  
She was a 1938 graduate of Woodston High School.  Elma continued her 
education attending Pittsburg Teacher’s College, Wayne State University 
and St. Mary’s College.  Elma married Rev. Edward D. Auchard on July 23,
 1944 in Woodston, Kansas, and he preceded her in death on December 12, 
2014. 

A devoted wife, mother and homemaker, Elma had the opportunity to
 teach. She was passionate about assisting her husband Edward in his 
ministries. Elma was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Bryan. 
 She had served at the Secretary of the Maumee Valley Presbyterial, a 
Board Member of the Bryan YMCA, AFS Chapter Past President and as a 
member of the Metropolitan Board AFS as well as serving as President of 
the West Bloomfield AFS Chapter in the Detroit area. Elma also served 
as Co-President of the AFS Chapter in Bryan from 1993- 1995. Elma 
enjoyed reading, making crafts and traveling. She accompanied Edward in
 their many travels, both international and domestic.
 Surviving is her daughter, Joanne (William) Senefsky of Sun City, 
California; three grandchildren, Mark (Lisa) Senefsky of Salt Lake City,
 Utah, Cari (Ken Prince) Senefsky of Austin, Texas and Christi (Ben) 
Koehlinger of Lakewood, California; four great-grandchildren, Elizabeth 
Senefsky, Sarah Senefsky, Oliver Koehlinger and Martin Koehlinger; one 
sister, Grace Merkey of Monte Vista, Colorado. She was preceded in 
death by her parents; husband, Rev. Edward D. Auchard and one sister, 
Wilma Bartholomew.
 Visitation for Elma “Honey” Auchard will be held Friday, April 23, 
2021 from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, 506 
Oxford Drive, Bryan, Ohio where her funeral service will follow at 11:00

Elma 'Honey' Auchard

Kenneth R. Snow, age 80, passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021, at 
the Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on 
December 16, 1940, in Lamar, Missouri, the son of Forest &amp; Margaret 
Ambler Snow.&nbsp; A lifetime resident of Scott City, Kansas, Kenny worked 
for Rainbow Bread Company as an area supervisor and later driving fuel 
truck for L&amp;M Western Tire before retiring.

He was a member of the First Christian Church and Lake Scott Car Club
 both of Scott City, Kansas and Eagles Lodge #3124 of Garden City, 
Kansas.

On November 10, 1960, he married Jacque J. Shearmire in Scott City, 
Kansas.&nbsp; She passed away on July 2, 2020, in Scott City, Kansas.

Survivors include his Two Daughters - Shawn &amp; Kelly Conine of 
Scott City, Kansas, Kimmie Moore of Corryton, Tennessee, Four 
Grandchildren - Zachery &amp; Alli Conine of Scott City, Kansas, Marley 
&amp; John Koons of Lakin, Kansas, Danielle Moore &amp; Kendrick Tate of

Kenneth R. Snow

Christie Callaway, 63, died April 15, 2021, at Wesley Medical Center,
 Wichita, Kansas. She was born January 17, 1958, in Hoisington, Kansas, 
the daughter of David and Freida L. (Herbel) Callaway. Christie 
graduated from Hoisington High School in 1976 and later received her 
nursing degree from Kansas University.

She is survived by: two children; David Bockman and wife Roda of 
Springfield, Missouri, and Ammie Bockman and significant other Shane 
Keys of Forsyth, Missouri; a sister, Valarie Knight and husband Jerry of
 Ozark, Missouri; and an aunt, Jeanette Smith of Hoisington.&nbsp; She was 
lovingly known as “Gigi” to her three grandchildren, Bralynn, Ella, and 
Ezra.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Freida Callaway.

Visitation will be 12 noon to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home,
 with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.&nbsp; Funeral service will be 2
 p.m., Thursday, April 22, 2021, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 
Hoisington, with Rev. Wayne Baldyga presiding.&nbsp; Burial will follow in 
Hoisington Cemetery.

 Wichita, Kansas. She was born January 17, 1958, in Hoisington, Kansas, 
the daughter of David and Freida L. (Herbel) Callaway. Christie 
graduated from Hoisington High School in 1976 and later received her 
nursing degree from Kansas University.She is survived by: two children; David Bockman and wife Roda of 
Springfield, Missouri, and Ammie Bockman and significant other Shane 
Keys of Forsyth, Missouri; a sister, Valarie Knight and husband Jerry of
 Ozark, Missouri; and an aunt, Jeanette Smith of Hoisington.&nbsp; She was 
lovingly known as “Gigi” to her three grandchildren, Bralynn, Ella, and 
Ezra.She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Freida Callaway.Visitation will be 12 noon to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home,
 with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.&nbsp; Funeral service will be 2
 p.m., Thursday, April 22, 2021, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 
Hoisington, with Rev. Wayne Baldyga presiding.&nbsp; Burial will follow in 
Hoisington Cemetery.Memorials may be made to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, PO Box 146, Hoisington, KS 67544.
