Wilma Genevieve Staats was born on July 2, 1928 in Woodward, Okla., to G.G. and Mary Jane Staats. She passed away on May 5, 2021, at her home, in Colby. Wilma spent most of her childhood in Woodward, moving to Oklahoma City as a teenager where she graduated high school. In 1947, Wilma attended McPherson College where she met her future husband, Paul Dell. They married on June 6, 1948 in Oklahoma City. She and Paul moved to Beatrice, Neb., and operated a dairy farm for eight years. In 1956, Paul and Wilma moved to Colby and lived south of town where they continued their farming operation. Wilma loved being a farm wife and helped with all the farm chores. She would cook for the harvest crews, drive tractors and tend to the children, all in a day’s work. Wilma was very involved in the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed square dancing, sewing, knitting, canning, and playing cards. One of Wilma’s biggest challenges in life was overcoming the loss of Paul on April 28, 1972. On Jan. 6, 1979, she married Erwin Thiele. Wilma became involved with the Trinity Lutheran Church and was active in the LWML.

Later in life, Wilma enjoyed collecting coins, traveling, reading, gardening, bridge club and quilting. She became quite the antique collector and enjoyed finding unique collectibles.

She was active in the family farm until she could no longer participate. Her greatest love of all was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her family was her greatest joy and she loved being with them all! She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; two sisters; her husbands; one son-in-law, and one great-granddaughter, Mallory Woolf. She is survived by her five children, Paula Makings (Bill Alexander) of San Diego; Susan Woofter (Jay) of Colby; Peggy Barton (Jerry) of Colby; Brent Dell (Shari Roling) of Lake Elmo, Minn., and Becky Kizer (Tracy), of Julesburg, Colo.; five step-children, Wayne Thiele (Marlit), Gerald Thiele (Linda), Lynn Thiele (Debbie), Janette Rangel (Dan) and Ron Thiele; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. There will be a private family graveside service per her request. Interment will be at the Beulah Cemetery, Colby.

Barbara Dale Poage, 81, Hill City, died Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at Salina Regional Health Center.

She was born Jan. 6, 1940, in Ransom to Ray and Mary Rosalie (Doty) Sonnenburg.

She married Jerry Poage on May 31, 1959, in Ransom.

Survivors include her husband, Hill City; a son, Trent Poage, Columbia/Waverly, Mo.; a brother, Ken Schweitzer, Lenexa; a sister, Linda McFadden, Shawnee; and two grandsons.

Josephine Horinek Mazanec, 101, of Hays, passed away at her home on May 4, 2021.&nbsp; She was born March 18, 1920 in Atwood to Frank Horinek Jr. and Caroline (Janousek) Horinek.

She married Raymond James Mazanec on May 1, 1945.

She loved quilting, embroidering and crocheting. She loved to play bingo, gamble, and travel to the casinos with her sweetheart. Her most cherished time was family time. Josephine and Raymond were members of the Sunflower Polka Club.

Josephine was employed as an assembly line worker at Travenol in Hays.

She is survived by her three daughters: Caroline Hilmes of WaKeeney; Antonetta “Toni” Lang of Hays; and Ramona “Mona” (Bruce) Young of Lakewood, Colo.&nbsp; Four grandchildren: Bill and Liz Hilmes, Kansas; Diana and Kirk Ficken, Kansas; Matthew and Amanda Young, Colorado; Stephanie and Brett Graham, Colorado; ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers: Frank, Paul, and Charlie; her sister: Antonetta Prokop; a grandson: Joseph Lang; and two sons-in-law: Larry Hilmes and Frank Lang.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 11 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church,&nbsp;215 W. 13th St., Hays, KS 67601.

Bernice Kathleen “Bernie” Birzer, 93, of Leawood, passed away Monday, May 3, 2021 at Ridge Crest Nursing Center in Warrensburg, Mo.

She was born Aug. 29, 1927 in Great Bend, the daughter of Louis and Elizabeth (Johanning) Birzer. She was the oldest of five children.

Bernice graduated from Hoisington High School, Hoisington in 1945. She earned her bachelor of science degree at Marymount College in Salina. She was employed for 42 years as a medical technologist at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City. She did additional studies at Mayo Clinic in hematology and was highly skilled at detecting blood disorders before computer analysis and later when blood disorders may not be seen with computer analysis.

Bernie was a devout Catholic and was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and later St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Kansas City, Mo., where she sang in the choir for many years. She enjoyed attending daily mass, St. Thomas More Friends, The Red Bridge Social Club, volunteering at Seton Center and playing bingo.

She was a talented seamstress and creatively re-made and updated clothes. She thoroughly enjoyed the theater and frequented Starlight Theatre. She was an avid Royals and Chiefs fan. Bernie loved attending family events and was a big part of her family’s lives, attending every family birthday and family function possible.&nbsp;

Bernice is survived by her sisters Norma Keenan, Victoria; and Marie (Dr. Ed) Robison, Warrensburg, Mo.; as well as many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and great-great-nieces and -nephews.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Harry Birzer, a sister Caroline Hoffman; a brother-in-law Tony Hoffman; a nephew Terry Keenan; and several great-nieces and -nephews.

Per her wishes and because of her passion for medical studies, Bernie’s body has been donated to the Willed Body Program at the University of Kansas Medical Center.&nbsp;

Rosemary “Rose” Lynn McClelland, oldest child of Herbert and Josephine (Heller) McClelland, was born on a farm south of Dellvale on Jan. 4, 1929, and passed away at the Nottingham Health and Rehabilitation Center in Olathe on May 4, 2021 at the age of 92.

Rose attended grades one through eight at two different rural schools southwest of Clayton. She attended Clayton High School for her freshman and sophomore years, and then moved to Norton with her family and graduated from Norton Community High School in 1947.

Following graduation, she worked at Ideal Truck Lines until she married John William “Bill” Mathes, Jr. on July 10, 1948. Rose helped in their family businesses for many years including the Norton Ice and Locker Plant and Grocery, and the Root Beer Drive Inn. Later, she worked at the Haxton Grocery, and Browne’s Clothing in Norton.

Rose, a long-time member of the Norton Christian Church, was baptized into Christ with her husband on May 20, 1951, at the old Norton Christian Church. She taught the Sunday School primary grades for many years, was a member of the Women’s Council, and was chairperson of the Funeral Dinner Committee for several years. Rose was faithful in attending church until the fall of 2020 when her health began declining. Her greatest love was Jesus, our Lord and Savior, and her husband and family.

She had also been a member of the FCE and the Polly Anna Club.

Rose is survived by two daughters, Marilyn (Gary) Ochsner, South Fork, Colo., Susan Smith, Gardner, and a son, John Steven (Janet) Mathes, Norton; three grandchildren, Nathan Mathes, Phillipsburg, Amanda (JP) Bockes, Lee’s Summit, Mo., and Megan (Mike) Kane, Gardner; three great-grandchildren, Kolby and Kaleb Bockes, Breanna Rose Volo, and a step great-granddaughter, Paige Bockes; two brothers, Jay (Pat) McClelland, Springfield, Mo., and Gary (Pam) McClelland, Norman Okla., and several nieces and nephews.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill (2014), and a son-in-law, Floyd Smith (2014).

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Plumer-Gobber Funeral Home, Norton.

Burial will follow at Norton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Norton County Health Department.

Frances Alberta (Richter) William, 94, of Hoxie, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2021.

She was the eldest child of Paul Richter and Julia (Schlicher) Richter. Frances was born on July 20, 1926 in rural Sheridan County. After graduating from Sheridan County High School in 1944, she attended Stewarts Cosmetology School in Salina.

Upon completing her degree, she returned to Hoxie and married Ronald L. William on April 22, 1946. Frances owned and operated a beautician business in Hoxie for several years and also worked at Cooper Dry Goods in the 1960s. From 1971 until her retirement in 1994, Frances was the district secretary of the local Soil Conservation Service. Frances will be remembered as a very creative individual and one never to be idle. Her hobbies included golfing, painting and she was a dedicated letter and e-mail writer to family and friends.

She may best be known for crafting hundreds, if not thousands, of delicious wedding, anniversary and birthday cakes over 50 years until her second retirement in 2006. Frances was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church her entire life and let faith in Christ lead her throughout. She was preceded in death by son Ronald Wayne “Ronnie” William, killed in action on March 21, 1970 in South Vietnam, and her husband, Ronald on Dec. 6, 2012.

She is survived by: her sons, Larry A. William and wife Susan of Topeka and Victor P. William and wife Lila of Overland Park; her three grandchildren, Scott William and wife Laura; Alison Thomas and husband Matt; Paul William and wife Jackie; and her five great-grandchildren, Sydni William, Zoe William, Margo Thomas, Henry William and Felix William; and her siblings, Marvin Richter and wife Nancy; Herschel Richter, and Sidona Obermueller. A funeral service is planned for 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 8 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with interment to follow the service in the Hoxie City Cemetery.

Frances Alberta (Richter) William

Kay Ellen Maneth, 82, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at Brookdale Senior Living, Great Bend.

She was born April 7, 1939, at Great Bend, to Samuel E. Dorfshaffer, Sr. and Ulanda E. (Brown) Dorfshaffer.

She married William "Bill" Maneth Aug. 24, 1957, at Great Bend He died Jan. 16, 2015.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Kay retired from Marmie Motors as the office manager on June 1, 2005, after 44 years of service. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church.

She sang and played the bass violin in the contemporary choir for more than 30 years and served on the Pastoral Council. She was also a member of Red Hat Ladies. She volunteered at RSVP, CKMC, Heartland Cancer Center, and at blood drives. She enjoyed gardening in Bill’s yard. Kay especially loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include, two sons, John Maneth and wife Sandy of Great Bend, and David Maneth and Angie of Maize; a brother, Samuel Dorfshaffer Jr. of Germany; a sister, Beverly Shewbart of Nickerson; five grandchildren, Samantha Asebedo and husband Matthew, Chad Maneth and wife Jennifer, Todd Maneth and wife Jamie, Mary Maneth, and Tara Mapel and husband Brian; and seven great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Amelia, Dylan, Jaxon, Avery, Noah and Izzy. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill Maneth; a daughter, Jennifer Maneth; and a sister, Gloria Clothier.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m., Monday, May 10, 2021 at Bryant Funeral Home, with Altar Society Rosary at 4 p.m., and Vigil service at 7 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Father Don Bedore presiding.

Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials have been designated to Alzheimer’s Association or Sunflower Diversified Services, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

David P. Leiker (Dave), 64, died Monday, April 26 at his home in Wichita.

He was born January 4, 1957 in Victoria to Gilbert P. and Mary Ann (Bieker) Leiker.

He attended both elementary school and high school in Victoria. He was active in sports and received a baseball scholarship to Garden City Junior College.

Dave was employed by several companies in Hays, including Great Guns and Sunflower Electric before relocating to Wichita, where he worked for Boeing 24 years as an electrical engineer and then for Collins Aerospace almost eight years.

Dave made many friends throughout his life who remained close whether they spoke once a week or once every five years. Dave’s many passions in life included barefoot and trick water skiing, golfing and Harley Davidson motorcycle trips across the country.

He also loved sailing, having joined Walnut Valley Sailing Club at El Dorado Lake where he established a second family and took sailing trips to the Bahamas, Virgin Islands and other exciting locations.

In recent years he reconnected with his high school classmates and looked forward to the many get-togethers they had to reminisce of all the good ole days. He was a proud American and patriot, who had an undying love for his country and the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution.

Dave leaves behind a brother Randy (Sherry) Victoria; a sister MaryBeth Fisher (Ernie) Hays; sister-in-law Theresa Leiker, Wichita; nieces and nephews: Lobi Powell (Luke) Alamo, Calif.; Amorie Headrick (Josh) Aurora, Colo.; Matthew Leiker (Jennifer) Hays; Megan Bucher (Marcus) Victoria; Hannah Fisher Hillsboro; Elijah Fisher Phoenix, Ariz.; and his father’s widow, Ann Gustad Leiker, Hays.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Tom, and his most precious and beloved Yorkshire Terriers, Ozzie and Harriet.

A memorial celebration of life will be held for Wichita-area friends at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 15 at the Walnut Valley Sailing Club clubhouse, El Dorado Lake.

A Funeral Mass will be at noon Saturday, May 22 at The Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria, followed by a celebration of life at the Victoria VFW Hall. A private inurnment will be later.

Marvin Henry Otto Stutheit, 89, claimed his Easter victory on Monday, 
April 5, 2021, at the Norton Andbe Home. He was born the first of five 
children on March 3, 1932, in Johnson County, Nebraska to Lena 
(Grauerholz) and Harold Stutheit. 
 The family settled on a farm near Kensington, KS. After graduating 
from Kensington High School, Marvin attended and graduated from Fort 
Hays State University majoring in music on a trumpet scholarship. He 
then enlisted in the Army and was stationed at San Antonio, TX where he 
played in the Army band. At his first teaching position in Quinter, KS, 
Marvin met Pheobie Montgomery, the Superintendent of Nurses at the 
hospital. Marvin and Pheobie were married June 2, 1957, at Trinity 
Lutheran Church in Hays, KS. 
 The newlyweds moved to Boulder, CO where Marvin studied and 
graduated with a Master of Music Degree from the University of Colorado.
 Marvin accepted a position in Palco, KS to teach music where their only
 daughter, Sue Ann, was born on music festival day in Hays, KS. 
 The young family moved to Norton in 1962. Marvin then taught music 
at Jennings, KS and in 1976 moved to the farm Northwest of Norton, where
 in addition to crops, Marvin raised registered Charolais cattle and 
planted an extensive garden. He was known for his beautiful gladiolas. 
Today, the farm is managed by Brian Smith, who trained with Marvin since
 Brian’s eight grade summer. 
 Marvin is survived by his loving wife, Pheobie of the home; his 
daughter, Sue Ann of Norton, KS; two sisters, Lela (Gary) Eller of Hays,
 KS, Helen DaVatz of Olathe, KS and sister-in-law, Sandra Stutheit of 
Waverly, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, 
Melvin, and Leland Stutheit.
 Private Family Services will be held 10:00 am Saturday, April 10, 
2021 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Norton. A public burial service 
will follow at the Norton Cemetery at approximately 11:15 am. Visitation
 will be from 4-6:00 pm Friday, April 9, 2021 at the Immanuel Lutheran 
Church, Norton.

Eugene W. Geisinger, 80, of Phillipsburg, KS, died Monday, May 3, 2021. 
He was born November 12, 1940, in Sheridan County, KS, to John and Anna 
(Goscha) Geisinger. 

Eugene graduated from Leoville High School and 
enlisted in the United States Army, in August of 1962. He was honorably 
discharged in 1963. Eugene farmed with his father and then worked in the
 oil field for many years. He then had his own construction business in 
Phillipsburg. Eugene enjoyed buying and selling antiques on the side. 
After retirement, Eugene lived part-time in Kearney, NE, to better 
manage his health. 
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; brothers John R and William Geisinger and sister Doris Short. 
He’s survived by his brother James (Catherine) Geisinger, Mounds, OK and numerous nieces and nephews. 
A Memorial Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 2021, at
 the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, in Leoville, KS, with 
inurnment in Calvary Cemetery, Leoville.

Eugene Winfred Geisinger

Daniel E. Taylor, 52, passed away unexpectedly on May 1, 2021, at Olathe Medical Center.
 He was born on August 13, 1968, in Hoxie, Kansas, to Marvin and 
Kathleen (Smith) Taylor. Dan grew up in Tasco, Kansas, on the family 
ranch and attended school in Hoxie where he played on many sports teams,
 and helped his father and uncle on the ranch, often reluctantly. 
Following graduation from Hoxie High School, Dan attended the University
 of Kansas where he graduated in 1991 with a degree in Business. He 
married Stacey Brown on May 11, 1991, at Danforth Chapel on the KU 
campus, and they moved to Overland Park, Kansas for Dan’s first job. He 
spent the majority of his career at Intermec/Honeywell and was the go-to
 guy for any questions his colleagues had.
 Dan loved his golf membership at Wolf Creek Golf Course, and spent 
many happy hours on the links with family and friends. He was always on 
the lookout for new additions to his bourbon collection, and could often
 be coaxed into grilling or cooking. The family has many videos of Dan 
singing in the car or playing pranks and joking around with them. He was
 known for his dry humor, quick-witted comments, competitiveness, and 
stoicism. Dan relished annoying the family during movie night by quoting
 every single line of what they were watching.
 A loyal Jayhawk and lifelong sports fan, he volunteered his time 
coaching many football, basketball, baseball, and softball teams over 
fifteen years, and attended as many KU basketball games as he could. Dan
 also followed in the Taylor family tradition by spending afternoons 
sleeping through sports on television, but always claimed to be watching
 if someone woke him up, and later asking, “who won the game?” He 
believed in supporting charity events such as the Prince of Peace Gala, 
regularly donating and purchasing auction items, and even purchasing the
 same puppy he donated once, because his kids begged him to. He was 
always the first to volunteer when someone was needed to announce and 
compile stats for the Olathe Lacrosse Club and Lacrosse Association of 
Kansas City for his son’s games.
 Dan touched a lot of people during his short 52 years on earth. With
 word of his passing, his family finds comfort from stories and love 
from all who have had the chance to meet him. He will be greatly missed 
by all, but the memories we have of him will be cherished forever.
 Dan is survived by his wife Stacey, his daughters Katie and Emma, 
his son Scott; his brother Neil, wife Jolene, their children Anna and 
Matt; his sister Jeannine, his mother-in-law Janice, father-in-law 
Charlie, sister-in-law Michelle Daubert and her children Evan, Miya, and
 Megyn.
 He was preceded in death by his father Marvin and his mother Kathleen.
 There will be a visitation on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at 9:00am at 
Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, 1024 Sheridan Ave., Hoxie, KS 67740 followed

Jack C. Claytor, age 57, of Goodland passed away April 29, 2021.&nbsp;

Jack was born June 21, 1963, to Arthur G. and Georgia W. (Wallace) 
Claytor in Placerville, California.&nbsp; He grew up and went to Franklin 
High School in Stockton, California. &nbsp;On May 11, 1985, he married Debra 
Scott in Stockton.&nbsp; Jack was a truck driver for Helena Chemical in 
Goodland, he enjoyed playing video games, fishing, mechanics and 
spending time with his family and friends.&nbsp;

Jack was preceded in death by his parents.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife, Debra; sons, Kenneth Claytor and Timothy

Jack C. Claytor, age 57, of Goodland passed away April 29, 2021.&nbsp;Jack was born June 21, 1963, to Arthur G. and Georgia W. (Wallace) 
Claytor in Placerville, California.&nbsp; He grew up and went to Franklin 
High School in Stockton, California. &nbsp;On May 11, 1985, he married Debra 
Scott in Stockton.&nbsp; Jack was a truck driver for Helena Chemical in 
Goodland, he enjoyed playing video games, fishing, mechanics and 
spending time with his family and friends.&nbsp;Jack was preceded in death by his parents.&nbsp;He is survived by his wife, Debra; sons, Kenneth Claytor and Timothy 
(Ashely) Claytor of Goodland; four grandchildren and many more family

Ed Conine, 75, died on Monday, May 3, 2021, at Hays Medical Center in 
Hays. He was born on June 19, 1945, at Garden City the son of Jack C. 
&amp; Elsie M. (Young) Conine. He married Janis Sculley on August 6, 
1963, at Beeler. 
Ed served in the United States army for 3 years as a mechanic and after 
his discharge he moved to Dighton to work as a mechanic for Lane County 
Implement. He then worked as a Lineman for Lane Scott Electric for 20 
years. After retiring from Lane-Scott, he was a truck driver for several
 people in the area. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed camping, 
hunting, woodworking and riding his Harley. He was a member of American
 Legion Post # 190 of Dighton and served many years on the Honor Guard. 
He is survived by his Wife- Janis Conine, 2 Daughters- Sheila &amp; 
Roger Scheib of Liberal and Shari &amp; Mike Lake of Salina, Son- Aaron 
&amp; Lisa Conine of Dighton, 2 Brothers- Jackie Conine of Belton, 
Missouri and Ronnie Conine of Cimarron, Sister- Barbara Slagle of Ness 
City, 10 Grandchildren and 15 Great-Grandchildren. 
Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM Friday at the United Methodist 
Church with Rev Berniece Ludlum officiating. The service will be on

in Dighton Memorial Cemetery with military honors by American Legion

Donna Lou (Griffin) Lincoln passed away in Aurora, Colorado, after a 
brief hospital stay on April 29, 2021. She was 88 years young. Donna 
was born August 31, 1932, on the family farm north of Jennings Kansas. 
She was the third child born to L.E. (Tobe) and Emma (Rohan) Griffin. 
Donna grew up in Kanona, Kansas and graduated from Decatur Community 
High School in 1950. Donna and Charles Lincoln were married October 18, 
1950. Four children were born to their union: Cheryl-Denver, Colorado, 
Griff-Oberlin, Kansas, Tracy- Oberlin, Kansas, Judy-Colby, Kansas.
 Donna and Charles began their marriage while Charles was in the 
United States Air Force. When they returned to Oberlin; Donna began her 
career in banking. She worked at the Farmers National Bank until it 
changed to Gold Bank where she worked until retirement. Donna was very 
active in her community. She was a member of the American Legion 
Auxiliary, Royal Neighbors of America, and Mini Sappa Antique Club.
 Donna remained very close to her 2 sisters; Faye Miller and Jean 
Zimmerman. They spent countless hours together sewing, attending many 
local area craft fairs, and area high school wrestling tournaments.
 Donna also enjoyed other crafts like ceramics and crocheting. Many 
people have received gifts made by Donna. She crocheted names which 
were framed or simply "welcome" for everyone to enjoy.
 After Donna retired, she focused her creative spirit into quilting. 
 Donna made quilts for her four children and all her grandchildren. As 
Donna's eyesight deteriorated from macular degeneration; it became more 
difficult for her to continue the crafting she enjoyed. 
 Donna had one other "Love" besides her husband, children, and 
grandchildren. "The Cubbies!"-Chicago Cubs. Her love of baseball began 
by listening to games on the radio with her father as a child.
 Donna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 sisters, and 
son-in-law Kenneth Gibson Jr. She is survived by children Cheryl Gibson,
 Griff &amp; Cindy Lincoln, Tracy Lincoln &amp; Sharon Brown, Judy &amp;
 Harlan Call, 8 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, other relatives, 
and numerous friends. She will be greatly missed by all.

Lindola (Schuman, Baker) Merriman, 81, of Oakley, KS died May 2, 2021. 
She was born to John D. and Theodora E. (Vawter) Schuman on January 21, 
1940 in Oakley, KS. 
She attended school in Oakley, graduating in 1958, then studied at 
Manhattan (Bible) Christian College for 2 years. Lindola married Francis
 Baker in 1960 and had a daughter, Melissa Lynne Baker, in 1963. Lindola
 and Melissa returned to Oakley in 1973, where she worked at various 
jobs. On December 28, 1983, she married Preston Merriman. 
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. 
She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Baker, of Beattie, KS; 2 
sisters, Janet (Paul) Hutchins, of Anderson, MO and Donna (Jack) Hall, 
of Raton, NM; 2 nieces, 5 nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews 
and cousins. 
By her wishes there will be no funeral service. A graveside service will

Helen T. Hageman

David Thomas Trinka, 71, passed away May 3, 2021, at the University 
Of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus. He was born May 16, 1949 at
 Hamilton, Ohio, to Ciprian T. &amp; Eleanor (Franklin) Trinka. He 
married Olivey Padilla August 20, 1978 at Fairfield, Ohio.&nbsp; She died 
January 16, 2011.

Coming from the Philippines, David has lived in Great Bend for the 
last year. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during 
the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of the VFW. David loved playing 
pool, guns, and reading westerns or books by his favorite author, Clive 
Cussler.

Survivors include, two daughters, Nancy Trinka and Elizabeth Trinka, 
both of Cincinnati, Ohio; a brother, Paul Trinka of Hamilton, Ohio; a 
sister, Carol Trinka-Skolas and husband Steve of Great Bend; seven 
grandchildren; and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his
 parents; and a brother, Stephen Trinka.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A 
Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Ohio. Memorials have
 been designated to the Wounded Warrior Project, in care of Bryant 
Funeral Home.

93. She was born February 4, 1928, at Great Bend, to John &amp; Anna 
(Dougherty) Mooney. She marreid Ed Schonhoff August 2, 1949, at 
Ellinwood. He died August 21, 1999.

Jane was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Derby and St. Rose
 of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend. She was an avid reader. Jane 
especially loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children Debra Smith (Dale),&nbsp;Nancy Weiser( 
Bob),&nbsp;Susan Herrman (Floyd),&nbsp;Mark Schonhoff (Sara),&nbsp;and Julie Schonhoff,
 as well as her grandchildren Matt Schonhoff, Emily Schonhoff, Sam 
Schonhoff, Matt Smith, Ben Smith, Justin Smith, Adam Weiser, Chris 
Weiser, Todd Schonhoff, and Keith Schonhoff.&nbsp;Joan was preceded in death 
by her husband, Edward Schonhoff, her son, Michael Schonhoff, and two 
grandchildren, Timothy and Tiffany Schonhoff.

A private ceremony will take place on Friday, May 7, 2021.

John William Herl, 72, passed away May 2, 2021, at his home in Great 
Bend. He was born March 29, 1949, in Great Bend, to Victorinus "Vic" and
 Mabel (Leeper) Herl. He married Vicki Day July 29, 1970, and they later
 divorced. He later married Bernadean “Bernie” Stos Suppes on January 
29, 1983, and they later divorced.

John graduated from Great Bend High School in 1967 and later 
graduated from Emporia State University. He went into active duty in the
 United States Army on April 10, 1969, obtaining the rank of Specialist 
4. He transferred into the Army Reserves on November 13, 1970. John was 
honorably discharged on April 9, 1975. John was a family man and a hard 
worker, who proudly worked along-side his family at Corrosion Proof 
Fitting Company. He later owned and operated Herl Pipe &amp; Specialty, 
Inc.

John loved to ride motorcycles, fast cars, gambling, and to travel 
with friends. He was very committed to the Catholic Church and was a 
member of Prince of Peace Parish.&nbsp; John had a calming soul, generous 
heart and especially loved spending time with his family. He never met a
 stranger.

Survivors include, a son, Cameron Herl Day and wife Alma Castillo of 
San Jose, Calif., a daughter, Brandee Harrison of Great Bend; a step 
daughter, Shawna Farley and husband Chris of Dallas, Texas, and a step 
son, Chad Suppes and wife Keri of Hays; his siblings, Vickie Herl of 
Great Bend, Vic "Joe" Herl, Jr. of Arizona, Valerie Hartle and husband 
Allen of North Carolina, James "Jim" Herl of Wichita, Jerry Herl of 
North Dakota and Vanessa McCormick and husband Mike of Ohio; seven 
grandchildren, John E. Herl Day, Breelee Harrison, Brooklee Harrison, 
Baislee Harrison, Brittany Kozura, Kaitlyn Suppes and Kale Suppes; three
 step grandchildren; and eight step great grandchildren. He was preceded
 in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 5,
 2021, with Vigil service held at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial 
will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 6, 2021, at St. Rose of Lima 
Catholic Church, with Father Don Bedore presiding. Interment will be in 
Great Bend Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Fort Riley 
Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to the

John William Herl

Bonnie Lee Loughrige, 91, passed away May 3, 2021 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.

She was born July 15, 1929 in Dodge City, the daughter of Myrl Lador and Gladys Pearl Ackley James.

Moving from McPherson, she was a Larned resident for 64 years. She 
was a member of the First Christian Church, Larned, where she served as a
 Sunday School teacher. She was a member of Christian Women’s 
Fellowship, and helped with the CWF Thrift Shop, member of Larned 
Country Club and Pitch Club. She enjoyed bowling, playing bridge, 
volunteering at the blood mobile, boating, fishing, and water skiing. 
She really enjoyed sports, especially watching her daughter and 
grandchildren play throughout the years, along with watching KU and KSU 
basketball, the Chiefs, and the Royals.

On October 15, 1949 she married Floyd Glen Loughrige at Larned; he preceded her in death on February 27, 2017.

Survivors include: a son, Mark James Loughrige, Pratt; a daughter, 
Kathy Jo (Paul) Heidrick, Manhattan; three grandchildren, Alan (Lisa) 
Heidrick, Julie (Jeff) Moore, Lori (Brad) Scheuerman, all of Manhattan; 
and five great grandchildren, Allison Heidrick, McKenzie Heidrick, Maren
 Moore, Bennett Scheuerman, and Wyatt Scheuerman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother, Myrlen Ray James.

Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2021 at Larned 
Cemetery, Larned with Pastor Aaron Withrow presiding. Visitation will be
 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, May 9, 2021 and 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

 </figure>Bonnie Lee Loughrige, 91, passed away May 3, 2021 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.She was born July 15, 1929 in Dodge City, the daughter of Myrl Lador and Gladys Pearl Ackley James.Moving from McPherson, she was a Larned resident for 64 years. She 
was a member of the First Christian Church, Larned, where she served as a
 Sunday School teacher. She was a member of Christian Women’s 
Fellowship, and helped with the CWF Thrift Shop, member of Larned 
Country Club and Pitch Club. She enjoyed bowling, playing bridge, 
volunteering at the blood mobile, boating, fishing, and water skiing. 
She really enjoyed sports, especially watching her daughter and 
grandchildren play throughout the years, along with watching KU and KSU 
basketball, the Chiefs, and the Royals.On October 15, 1949 she married Floyd Glen Loughrige at Larned; he preceded her in death on February 27, 2017.Survivors include: a son, Mark James Loughrige, Pratt; a daughter, 
Kathy Jo (Paul) Heidrick, Manhattan; three grandchildren, Alan (Lisa) 
Heidrick, Julie (Jeff) Moore, Lori (Brad) Scheuerman, all of Manhattan; 
and five great grandchildren, Allison Heidrick, McKenzie Heidrick, Maren
 Moore, Bennett Scheuerman, and Wyatt Scheuerman.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother, Myrlen Ray James.Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2021 at Larned 
Cemetery, Larned with Pastor Aaron Withrow presiding. Visitation will be

Philip T. Kyle, 80, passed away May 3, 2021 at Cedar Village Long Term Care Unit in Ness City, KS.

He was born January 7, 1941 in Wichita, the son of Boyde (Tug) and 
Grace R. Ryan Kyle.&nbsp; A longtime area resident, he was a Magistrate Judge
 in Hodgeman County for 24 years and prior to him being a judge, he was 
in a Law Practice with his wife, Karen.

He was a member of United Methodist Church, Jetmore, American Bar 
Association, Kansas Bar Association, where he served on Legislative and 
Ethic committees, Southwest Kansas Bar Association, past recipient of 
the outstanding District Magistrate Judges award. Appointed to help 
train the new Magistrate judges and was a member of the bar of the 
United State Supreme Court. He was a Vista Volunteer and organized the 
baseball program and library on the Oneida Indian Reservation in Green 
Bay, WI. &nbsp;He was employed by the Kansas Services for the Blind and 
Visual Handicap, a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity, and an avid 
sports fan of all kinds.

On December 23, 1972, he married Karen S. Sinclair in Wichita.&nbsp; She survives

Other survivors include; brother, Craig K. Kyle, Quebec, Canada; 
sister-in-law, Jenny Lu Hey, Jetmore; nine nieces and nephews and 
numerous great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Martha Kyle.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 2021 at United 
Methodist church, Jetmore, with Pastor Peter Mtuamwari presiding.

Thomas Louis Stejskal, 72, passed away May 2, 2021, at Diversicare of Larned.

He was born February 17, 1949, in Great Bend, the son of Leonard Ralph and Anna Mae Cramer Stejskal.

A lifetime Pawnee and Edwards County area resident, he was a farmer/rancher; a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Endowment Board, Larned; Knights of Columbus #2141; Edwards County Extension Board; Edwards County 4-H Foundation; Big Bend Water District; Lewis CO-OP Board; Edwards County Program Development Committee; Santa Fe Trail Center Board, Larned; and the Soil Conservation District. He was a 1972 graduate of Fort Hays State University with a BS in Agriculture. He enjoyed working in his shop, building things, welding, and was an avid reader.&nbsp; He especially enjoyed visiting and teasing his family, his friends and his neighbors and giving many of them nicknames.&nbsp; He was quite proud of all the accomplishments and achievements of his four grandsons and always gave his wife flowers, making sure to always sneak in a yellow rose on her birthday and Valentines Day. &nbsp; He hoped to be remembered as being a trustworthy and honest person.&nbsp;

On August 8, 1970, he married Donna M. Morgan at Hays, Kansas; she survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Ross Thomas Stejskal, Colby; a daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Marie Stedje, Larned; three brothers, Anthony “Tony” (Chris) Stejskal, Abilene, Timothy “Tim” Stejskal, Larned, Theodore “Ted” (Joyce) Stejskal, Wichita; and four grandchildren, Brendan Stejskal, Bryson Stejskal, John Stedje, and Reed Stedje.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Anna Marie “Susie” Stejskal.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 7, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned, with Father Bernard Felix presiding. Service will be viewable via Facebook Live at www.facebook.com/beckwithmortuary. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, with a vigil and rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. Inurnment will be in the Larned Cemetery at a later date.&nbsp;
