Janice K. Kennedy, 79, of Wilson, Kansas, and former Russell, Kansas resident, died on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.  

Janice was born on March 21, 1942, in Wilson, Kansas, the daughter of Ernie and Neva (McCoy) Vanderbur.  She grew up in Russell, Kansas, and graduated from Russell High School.  She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Benton L. Kennedy on December 28, 1963, in Russell, Kansas.  From this union, Janice and Benton were blessed with 3 children Kirby, Curt and Laina.  She worked in the food service industry as a cook, working for several restaurants in the area.  She was a longtime member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church.  She had many talents and passions and was most passionate about her faith and family.

Surviving family include her son Kirby W. Kennedy of Austin, Texas, Curt A. Kennedy of Russell, Kansas and Laina M. Sack of Phoenix, Arizona; sister Dixie Lamont of Downs, Kansas; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

A celebration of Janice’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M., Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at the mortuary, with the family present to great guests from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Tuesday evening.  Memorials may be given to the Wilson Care and Rehabilitation Center and sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
