Robert E. “Bob” O’Dea, age 61, passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 
2021, at his home in Scott City, Kansas. He was born on July 15, 1960, 
in Smyrna, Tennessee, the son of Patrick Bernard &amp; Alice June Gerver
 O’Dea.&nbsp; Bob worked for Ecolab for 25 years and is currently for KDOT.

He was a member of the Community Christian Church in Scott City, Kansas.

On November 26, 1983, he married Brenda Kay Greenlee in McCook, Nebraska.&nbsp; She survives.

Survivors include his Wife - Brenda O’Dea of Scott City, Kansas, One 
Daughter - Mikayla &amp; Brian Wiechman of Scott City, Kansas, Two Sons -

Laura Jean Barlow, 73, passed away September 10, 2021, at Clara 
Barton Hospital, Hoisington. She was born on September 14, 1947, in 
Great Bend, to Rueben and Beth “Babe” (Boxberger) Michaelis. She married
 Ronald V. Barlow on October 16, 1966, in Hoisington.&nbsp; He died June 26, 
2016.

A lifetime Hoisington resident, Laura was a cosmetologist at Nu-Wave 
Hair Salon. Laura was very proud of her work and always needed her hair 
and nails to look professional. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran 
Church and the church choir. Laura enjoyed cooking and always had the 
best recipes to share with her family and friends. She loved spending 
time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include, a son, Brooke Barlow of Wichita; a daughter, 
Jessica Campbell of Hoisington; four grandchildren, Savannah Sidebottom,
 Taylor Spresser, Rylie Campbell, and Peyton Campbell; and three great 
grandchildren, Graham Spresser, Brynk Sidebottom and Boyd Sidebottom.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial 
service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 24, 2021, at 
Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hoisington, with Rhonda Templing, PMA, 
presiding.

Phillipsburg resident Phylis F. Reeves passed away Tuesday, February 
16, 2021, at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg at the age of 
98.

She was born November 6, 1922, in Smith Center, Kansas, the daughter of Vern V. and Nettie F. (Churchill) Albrecht.

She was united in marriage to Dale I. Reeves on November 10, 1944, in 
Smith Center, KS.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on April 11, 2011.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, sisters Katie and Nita; and a daughter Barbara Whittaker.

Survivors include her daughter Connie Price of Phillipsburg; a 
grandson Jerry Whittaker and wife Marjorie of Falls Church, VA; a great 
grandson Jackson “Jack” Whittaker; a sister Mary Swander of Salina, KS; 
and nieces and nephews.

Cremation was planned.&nbsp; A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. 
Saturday, October 2, 2021, at the United Presbyterian Church,

Phylis F. Reeves

Aletha Marie (Unrein) Denning—after nearly nine decades filled with life and love — left this world on September 12, 2021, due to a sudden onset of sepsis, surrounded in her final days by the comfort of her husband and six surviving children. She was 89.

Aletha was born in Hays on November 29, 1931, the youngest of four siblings.&nbsp; She graduated from Hays High School in 1949, and a year later she married the love of her life, Alvin Denning.&nbsp; The two journeyed through life together for the next 71 years, following the Catholic faith.&nbsp; They raised their children on West 6th&nbsp;Street and then spent the last 38 years of their union living on their dream “farm” three miles west of Hays, where they grew vegetables for the farmer’s market, sold eggs, canned produce, and raised every bird from canaries to peacocks.&nbsp; Their farm quickly became, and remains today, the site for many gatherings of family and friends, including Sunday dinners, homemade ice cream on the patio, family reunions, and art workshops in the cabin.

Though she was a woman of many interests and talents, Aletha was above all a loving and devoted wife and mother.&nbsp; Aletha raised seven children with Al, along with scores of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp; Family meant everything to her, and she tirelessly encouraged her kids’ academic efforts and supported their extracurricular interests, whether in 4-H, scouting, music, sports, debate or art.&nbsp; Just last month, Aletha and Al hosted an outdoor reunion of nearly 70 family members on the farm, where she baked treats, played games with her grandkids, and finished third place in the nearly-all-night family poker tournament.&nbsp;

Aletha’s love of children extended beyond her own family.&nbsp; For the better part of two decades, she worked as the secretary at Washington Elementary School, where she loved all the kids as her own, doling out warm hugs and corrective glances as needed.&nbsp; Aletha found it especially rewarding to support underprivileged students, each of whom she believed deserved the same respect and opportunities as anyone else.&nbsp; Before working at Washington, and with her own young children at home, Aletha ran a day care out of her home for many years.&nbsp; She also took classes towards a degree in Elementary Education at Fort Hays State.

A natural teacher, Aletha shared her curiosity and love of learning with her children and pushed them to pursue opportunities she never had.&nbsp; She led by example, never being afraid to try something new.&nbsp; Aletha spent her retirement exploring new hobbies with a passion, including learning bridge, weaving beautiful rugs and placemats on her loom, sewing, sculpting, writing short stories, and practicing watercolor and pencil sketching.&nbsp; Even in her late 80s, Aletha embraced technology as a way to keep her family close, sending multiple e-mails each week summarizing the goings on at the farm.&nbsp; And all through the pandemic, she was a stalwart participant on the weekly family Zoom call, including hosting virtual cooking classes from her kitchen where she taught her grandchildren and great-grandchildren all around the country how to bake her famous schwarzberren kuchen, flaky pie crust and grebel.

Aletha is survived by her husband, Alvin, of Hays; her son Tom Denning (and wife, Deb) of Hays; her daughter Judy Evans (and husband, Bob) of Fishers, Indiana; her daughter Margie Hammerschmidt (and husband, Elden) of Hays; her son Dan Denning (and wife, Cheryl) of rural Delphos; her daughter Kathy Banks (and husband, Duane) of Russell; and her son Roger Denning (and wife, Michele) of San Diego, California.&nbsp; Aletha is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren (and counting).&nbsp; She is reunited in death with her son Greg Denning—her middle child—who passed away in 2008, as well as her parents, Wendelin and Helen (Weber) Unrein, her sister Lorine Brungardt Bollig, and her brothers Alvin Unrein and Sylvester Unrein. &nbsp;

A funeral Mass will be held at 1pm Saturday, September 18, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays.&nbsp; The Mass will be preceded by a memorial visitation from 12-12:30pm and a rosary service at 12:30pm, both at the church.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.&nbsp;

Duane Lyle Raney, 84 or Alexandria, NE (formerly of Osborne, KS) 
passed away September 12, 2021, at Heritage Care Center in Fairbury, NE.
 &nbsp;Duane grew up on a farm in Osborne County Kansas and completed grades 1
 - 12 in the Osborne School System.

Duane enlisted in the United States Army in 1955 &amp; was stationed 
in France, Switzerland &amp; in the U. S. &nbsp;In 1957, Duane left the Army 
&amp; had 4 children: David Lynn, Connie Joanne, Tammy Dee &amp; Kevin 
Duane.

On April 22, 1972, Duane was baptized at the United Methodist Church 
in Lincoln, NE. &nbsp;He was united in marriage to Melvina Pickett on August 
5, 1972, and together they resided in Nebraska. &nbsp;Mel had one son, 
Patrick Delroy Boley.

Duane loved family gatherings, spending time with his family, &amp; drinking coffee with the boys.

Duane is survived by his wife, Melvina: 4 children, Patrick (Sandy) 
Boley, David (Linda) Raney, Connie (Leland) Ward, Tammy (David) Gabel; 
15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren: 5 great-great-grandchildren; 
&amp; numerous nieces &amp; nephews.

Duane is preceded in death by his parents, Flavion &amp; Violet 
(Trexler) Raney; brother, Dean Raney; sisters, Wanda Walker &amp; Sandra
 Ritter; son, Kevin Duane Raney; granddaughter, Dana Lynn Raney; &amp;

Duane Lyle Raney

Ruth G. Leas, 104, Hays, died Sunday, October 4, 2020, at her son’s home in Hays.

She was born December 5, 1915, in 
Elkhart, Kansas the daughter of James B. and Viola (Schnauffer) Garlow.&nbsp;
 She was a graduate of Hays High School in 1933, and she earned her 
Bachelor’s Degree at Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;On April 10, 1936,&nbsp; she was united in marriage to Arthur J. Leas in Hays, and they 
celebrated 75 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on 
January 11, 2012.&nbsp; She worked at Markwell’s Office Supply, was a 
secretary for the school nurse at Hays High School, and worked in the 
children’s department at the Hays Public Library.&nbsp; Ruth was a longtime 
member of the First Baptist Church and P.E.O.&nbsp; She creatively crafted 
much of her own home décor, enjoyed creating string artwork, and liked 
traveling with Arthur.

She is survived by a son; Mike Leas and
 wife Debbie of Hays, four grandchildren; Jana Mannan and husband Maq, 
Julie Ertel and husband Greg, Chris Leas, and Ryan Leas and wife Lisa, 
and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her 
parents, her husband; Arthur, a daughter; Judy Swail, a brother; Maurice
 Garlow, and a sister; Blanche Small.&nbsp;

A celebration of life gathering will be
 from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at The 
Heritage Eatery, 114 E. 12th Street, Hays.&nbsp; The family requests those 
attending wear a mask or have full vaccination.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Bachelor’s Degree at Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;On April 10, 1936,&nbsp; she was united in marriage to Arthur J. Leas in Hays, and they 
celebrated 75 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on 
January 11, 2012.&nbsp; She worked at Markwell’s Office Supply, was a 
secretary for the school nurse at Hays High School, and worked in the 
children’s department at the Hays Public Library.&nbsp; Ruth was a longtime 
member of the First Baptist Church and P.E.O.&nbsp; She creatively crafted 
much of her own home décor, enjoyed creating string artwork, and liked 
traveling with Arthur.She is survived by a son; Mike Leas and
 wife Debbie of Hays, four grandchildren; Jana Mannan and husband Maq, 
Julie Ertel and husband Greg, Chris Leas, and Ryan Leas and wife Lisa, 
and five great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her 
parents, her husband; Arthur, a daughter; Judy Swail, a brother; Maurice
 Garlow, and a sister; Blanche Small.&nbsp;A celebration of life gathering will be
 from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at The 
Heritage Eatery, 114 E. 12th Street, Hays.&nbsp; The family requests those

Jarrod M. Thurston, age 50, of Great Bend, Kansas, and formerly of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly on September 10, 2021, in Olathe, Kansas.  Jarrod was born on January 3, 1971, at Wichita, Kansas, to James B. and Jolene K. (Berning) Thurston.

He graduated from Hays High School in Hays, Kansas, in 1989, where he was involved in football, wrestling and track.  After graduation Jarrod  competed on the track team at Pratt Community College in Pratt, Kansas, and the University of Nebraska at Kearney in Kearney, Nebraska.  Jarrod was a professional painter, having worked for Ammon Painting in Kansas City, Missouri, MVP Painting in Grandview, Missouri, and the Board of Public Utilities for Wyandotte County in Kansas City, Kansas, for many years, and moved to Great Bend in 2018 to help care for his father.  After moving to Great Bend Jarrod continued as a self-employed painter.  He was a former member of Painters Union Local #9 of Kansas City, Missouri.  He enjoyed studying genealogy and reading history.  He was a passionate sports fan and an avid music lover.  Jarrod was of the Catholic faith and was a member of Prince of Peace Parish in Great Bend, Kansas.  

Survivors include his mother, Jolene K. Thurston of Great Bend, Kansas; one brother, Jason (&amp; Shari) Thurston of Overland Park, Kansas; one sister, Janee’ (&amp; Jesse) Bernal of Wichita, Kansas; five nieces and nephews:  Jacey Thurston, Braydon Thurston, JohnPaul Bernal, Gabriella Bernal, and Jude Bernal.  Jarrod was preceded in death by his father, James B. Thurston in September of 2020 and his grandparents:  Harry and Frances Thurston and Joe and Bernice Berning.  

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 17, 2021, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend, Kansas with Father Ted Stoecklein and Father Aneesh Parappanattu officiating.  Visitation will be at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 16, 2021, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and a Parish Rosary at 7:00 PM.  Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery at Marienthal, Kansas at 3:30 on Friday.

James Eugene Smith

William "Bill" Andrew Goetz, 78, of Oakley, KS died Saturday, September 
11, 2021, at Logan County Hospital. He was born August 29, 1943, in 
Park, KS to Edmund and Helen (Nellie Brungardt) Goetz. He graduated from
 Grainfield High School in 1961. On September 4, 1970, he married Laura 
Maurath. Bill was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Oakley. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George (Bud) Goetz, 
Virgil (Jim) Goetz, Charlie Goetz; and sisters, Maxine Leiker, Delores 
Deines, Elsie Bittel, Marlene Fahey. 
He is survived by his wife, Laura, of Oakley; children, Lisa (James) 
Cox, of Newton, Amy Thrasher, of Oakley, Neil Goetz, of Palm Springs, 
CA, Cara Goetz, of Oakley, and Jason (JP) Goetz, of Denver, CO; 
grandchildren, Camilla (Justin) Panariello, of Venice, FL, Neil Goetz, 
Jr., of Riverside, CA, Amber Cox, of Newton, Corey Thrasher, of 
Goodland, and Andrea Cox, of Newton; great-grandson, Hank Panariello, of
 Venice, FL; brother, Gary Goetz, of WaKeeney; sister, Pat Radcliffe, of
 Kenton, OH; and many sister &amp; brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, 
great nieces, great nephews and friends. 
Bill loved getting away to go fishing anytime he would get the chance, 
he also enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and taking them out for
 ice cream whenever they were around. He was a family man first and 
foremost, a loving husband and a great father. He was a very social 
person, and you could often find him chatting with his friends over a 
donut at one of his many ‘coffee break’ places around Oakley. He always 
took the time out of his busy day to stop and share a conversation with 
whomever crossed his path. As a proud member of the local high school 
booster club, you could spot him at a Oakley Plainsmen sporting event 
cheering on the home team or travelling to support them on the road 
(even after his own kids had graduated). If he wasn’t at a game, 
scratching a lottery ticket, or at work; you were likely to catch him 
working in his yard or on his Ford Galaxie (both of which he took 
tremendous pride in). 
He worked for NW Furniture and Floor Covering for many years and when it
 closed started his own business; Superior Floor Covering. He worked 
hard and truly believed in the motto “if something is worth doing, it is
 worth doing right”. His work ethic and skillset were second to none. He
 was a master carpenter, and his craftsmanship can be seen in the 
numerous homes that he helped make beautiful all throughout his 
community and the surrounding areas. He flipped many houses in the 
Oakley area in his later years, turning sometimes very undesirable 
houses into amazingly beautiful homes. 
Bill was a man of faith and believed in service to his fellow man. He 
was a member of the Knights of Columbus (serving as Grand Knight and 
later District Deputy - he also won a prestigious KofC Family of the 
Year Award). He was a man of integrity and compassion. He would always 
be the first to help out anyone who was in need. As a younger man, he 
and his wife (Laura) enjoyed playing cards with their friends, being 
social and were members of many bowling leagues. Later in life he simply
 enjoyed driving around town with his daughter Cara, just because… 
He impacted the lives of anyone he met and everyone that knew him, has a
 “Bill Story” to share. His friendly smile and his whistling of a 
cheerful tune while he worked, will be missed by many, but his legacy 
will never be forgotten. 
Visitation will be from 5pm to 7pm, Sunday, Sept. 19 at St. Joseph 
Catholic Church, Oakley, with a rosary to follow at 7:00 pm. Funeral 
Mass will be at 10:00 am, Monday, Sept. 20, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic

Phyllis Ione (Kobler) Madden, went to her heavenly home on August 
18, 2021, at the age of 90, joyful to be reunited with so many she loved.
 She was a loving wife to her husband of 54 years, and a loving mother 
to their five children. 
 Phyllis was born on January 27, 1931, to Albert and Anna Kobler at 
their home in Morland, Kansas. She lived her entire childhood in the 
family business, Kobler Drug Store with her parents, three sisters, and 
one brother. Raised in a Christian family, Phyllis lived a life that was
 shaped and guided by her faith.
 On June 19, 1949, she married Eugene Ellis Madden moving to Hill 
City, Kansas. In the early 70s, the family moved to Dodge City, KS for 
over 20 years. Upon retirement they moved back to their hometown of 
Hill City for several years and eventually moved to the Wichita area for
 the remainder of her life 
 Phyllis is now joyfully reunited with those who preceded her 
including her parents, her husband Gene, son Mark Eugene and daughter 
Teresa Jane and her beloved grandson Jeffrey Mark, her sisters and 
brother, LaVergne Hardman, Margaret Rath, Lorrayne Deines and Carl 
Kobler and their spouses. 
 Her survivors include her daughters, Patricia (Ken) Beran, Pamela 
(Gary) Werling, and her son, Kelly Madden, as well as her sister-in-law 
Janice Richmeier, 9 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and many 
nieces and nephews. Her earthly life was filled with the love of family 
and friends, and most importantly faith in Jesus was her path to eternal
 life. All who knew her were blessed to have her in their lives.
 The memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 
18, at the Graham County United Methodist Church in Hill City, Kansas 
with visitation at the church on Friday, September 17th from 4-6:00. &nbsp;Memorials are suggested to the Graham County United Methodist Church,

Evelyn Engleman, age 95, of Graham County, Kansas died Thursday, September 9, 2021, at Via Christi Village - Hays.&nbsp; She was born February 1, 1926,&nbsp; to Maurice and Julia (Raddenberg) Wanker.

She married Robert N. Engleman on May 26, 1943, in Maryville, MO.&nbsp; She was a homemaker, helped with the farming and enjoyed time&nbsp; gardening,&nbsp; sewing, and time together with family traveling to Colorado in their RV/Camper.&nbsp; When the kids were grown she and Bob traveled the United States on motorcycle and by car, as well as enjoyed multiple trips to Europe.

Survivors include her son: Bruce (Mary) Engleman, Owasso, OK; daughters: Pamela Lynn, Topeka, KS; Julie (Steve) Paul, Hays, KS; Barbara (Bob) Goodrow, Hays, KS; and Ellen (Tom) Spies, Sidney, NE.&nbsp; Nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren plus one to arrive this fall.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 2017; son: Bobby; son-in-law: Bill, and grandson: Brent.

Evelyn Engleman

Janet Alice “Tad” Price, age 93, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2021, at the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital Long-Term Care unit in Wakeeney, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born April 2, 1928, to Herbert Christian McSween and Mary Hogsett McSween Bleasdale in Brush, Colorado. She married her childhood sweetheart, Dr. James G. Price, on June 19, 1949, and they were married for over 60 wonderful years until he passed away in 2009.&nbsp; They raised their family in Brush, CO and in 1979 moved to Kansas City, KS where she lived for 40 years until moving to Wakeeney, KS in 2019. In her youth she enjoyed horseback riding, was a rodeo queen in Brush, CO and even taught horseback riding in Estes Park, CO.&nbsp; She graduated from the University of Colorado in 1949 with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education and was a substitute teacher in Brush for many years.&nbsp; Her love of music continued throughout her life and, at age 88, still played the piano on Friday nights to entertain her friends at Claridge Court where she lived.&nbsp; She said it was because they gave her a free glass of wine for playing.&nbsp; She loved playing bridge and reading, did amazing needlepoint and was a wonderful cook.&nbsp; She and her husband travelled all over the world together, including several trips to Europe and China and cruises in the Mediterranean and down the Amazon River.&nbsp; She even attended a dance at the White House and danced with the Secretary of State.&nbsp; Her most important accomplishment was supporting her husband and taking care of her family, of which she took tremendous pride. She is survived by two sons, James G. Price II (Marcia) of Cheyenne, WY; Richard C. Price (Linda) of Harrisonville, MO; two daughters, Mary Laurette Albin (Doug) of Wakeeney, KS; Janet Lynn Price of Minneapolis, MN; nine grandchildren (Alicia, Richard II, Andrea, Lauren, Julia, Jackie, Anne, Elizabeth and James III) and 11 great grandchildren.  </figure>Janet Alice “Tad” Price, age 93, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2021, at the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital Long-Term Care unit in Wakeeney, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born April 2, 1928, to Herbert Christian McSween and Mary Hogsett McSween Bleasdale in Brush, Colorado. She married her childhood sweetheart, Dr. James G. Price, on June 19, 1949, and they were married for over 60 wonderful years until he passed away in 2009.&nbsp; They raised their family in Brush, CO and in 1979 moved to Kansas City, KS where she lived for 40 years until moving to Wakeeney, KS in 2019. In her youth she enjoyed horseback riding, was a rodeo queen in Brush, CO and even taught horseback riding in Estes Park, CO.&nbsp; She graduated from the University of Colorado in 1949 with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education and was a substitute teacher in Brush for many years.&nbsp; Her love of music continued throughout her life and, at age 88, still played the piano on Friday nights to entertain her friends at Claridge Court where she lived.&nbsp; She said it was because they gave her a free glass of wine for playing.&nbsp; She loved playing bridge and reading, did amazing needlepoint and was a wonderful cook.&nbsp; She and her husband travelled all over the world together, including several trips to Europe and China and cruises in the Mediterranean and down the Amazon River.&nbsp; She even attended a dance at the White House and danced with the Secretary of State.&nbsp; Her most important accomplishment was supporting her husband and taking care of her family, of which she took tremendous pride. She is survived by two sons, James G. Price II (Marcia) of Cheyenne, WY; Richard C. Price (Linda) of Harrisonville, MO; two daughters, Mary Laurette Albin (Doug) of Wakeeney, KS; Janet Lynn Price of Minneapolis, MN; nine grandchildren (Alicia, Richard II, Andrea, Lauren, Julia, Jackie, Anne, Elizabeth and James III) and 11 great grandchildren. A family celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Trego Hospital Endowment, Inc. at 236 N. 6th Street in Wakeeney, KS 67672. Ransom, Kansas, on September 10, 2021. He was born October 22, 1960, to Russell and Veta 
(Walker) Squier.

John was a United States Army Ranger veteran, world traveler, poet, 
author, philosopher of life and brother to many. One of John’s greatest 
achievements was the publication of his novel and his collection of 
poetry writings.

Survivors include a brother Marion Lee (Colette Pearce) Squier, 
Austin, Texas, 2 nieces Stefanie Squier and Cecily (Dave Kehr) Squier; 2
 great nephews Nels and Karsten Visser; and many friends he met along 
his journey in life. He was preceded in death by a brother William 
Squier, Jr; a sister, Doveta Squier and his parents William Russell 
Squier and Veta (Walker) Squier.

John left his stamp on this world through his stories (told and 
untold) and friendships along the way. John left us with some simple yet
 profound words of advice “Don’t ever change and keep learning. Do what 
you love and continue to grow with it. Never stop growing as a person. 
We all get this one life, use it wisely.” He lives on in the hearts and 
minds of his many friends, family and colleagues.

Services will be held October 23, 2021, at 2pm at the American Legion Sunley-Squier Post 382, Brownell, Kansas.

Constance Louise (Dallke) McCall of Council Grove died on Monday, September 13, 2021, at Diversicare Council Grove.&nbsp; She was 93.

Connie was born on September 8, 1928, in

Marilyn Z. (Brown) Cooper

Lisa Ann Edgett, 63, of Great Bend died September 9, 2021 at her home
 in Great Bend. She was born September 22, 1957, in Great Bend to Carlos
 and Mary (Downey) Miller. She married Guy Disney on July 24, 1979, and 
gained a stepson, Jared Disney and stepdaughter, Lisa Disney. They later
 divorced. She married Kenneth Edgett on December 26, 2009.

After graduating from Great Bend High School in 1975, she attended 
Barton County Community Junior College and then Ottawa University where 
she received her teaching degree. She earned her Masters degree from 
Kansas State University. She taught at Park and Jefferson schools in 
Great Bend for 34 years, retiring in 2015. Since retiring, she was a 
substitute teacher in Ellinwood, St. Joseph’s in Ellinwood, St. John, 
Otis-Bison, Hoisington, Central Kansas Christian Academy, Holy Family, 
and Great Bend grade schools. For many years she also worked the night 
shift every quarter in the support department at CPI to get reports 
printed and sent out. Up until her death, she worked the Great Bend High
 School games taking tickets and sometimes working in the concession 
stand. She was also known for her decorated cakes and her bierocks which
 she did for relaxation.

As a teenager, Lisa was a member of Job’s Daughters and was the Honor
 Queen for the State of Kansas. She loved music and singing and belonged
 to the Madrigal Pop Singers in high school and the Hilltop Singers at 
BCCJC. She was also a member of the Argonne Rebels in Great Bend. She 
grew up in the Central Baptist Church where she played piano for some of
 their services. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church where she
 also played piano for the services. She was a Past Noble Grand of 
Martha Rebekah Lodge #425 in St. John, member of Valley Lodge #95, 
I.O.O.F. in Great Bend, and Pratt Lodge #248, I.O.O.F. in Pratt. She was
 an avid Bunco player, looking forward to their monthly gatherings.

Those that knew her would say she was always there to help anyone who
 needed help, usually making sure everyone else was taken care of before
 herself. She loved teaching kids and seeing that moment when things 
‘clicked’. She was always there to help any child that needed help, be 
it math, reading, or any subject they were struggling with and would 
tutor on the side so they would not have to struggle in the classroom. 
She was also known for her joyful attitude, greeting everyone with a 
smile. The joys of her life were her Dachshunds, Winnie and Dixie.

She is survived by her husband, Ken of home; extended family, Angie 
and Jarred Stoney, grandsons Jordan, Javen, and Jamieson; sisters, Jill 
(Tom) Pletcher of Wichita and Lorrie (Shane) Kromka of Denver, CO; 
sister-in-law, Maribeth Miller of Mason, MI; nieces and nephew, Amy 
(John), Jasmine (Deacon) and Brandon; mother-in-law and father-in-law, 
Bernice and Norman Edgett of Plainville; brothers-in-law, Brian Edgett 
of Plainville, Gary (Kim) Edgett of Topeka, and Greg (Michelle) Edgett 
of Monroe, IA; and nieces and nephews, Amber, Issac, Morgan, Mitchell, 
Levi and Lilly. Her extended family, Lori &amp; Paul Jacobs of Great 
Bend, Jim &amp; Diane King of Pittsburg, KS, and Karen King Smith of 
Great Bend. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlos and Mary 
Miller; brothers, Douglas Miller and Phillip Miller, and her extended 
family mom &amp; dad, Norma &amp; Kenny King.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, 
September 21, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive 
friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 
p.m., Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at Concordia Lutheran Church, 
Hoisington, with Pastor Gary Wolf presiding. Those in attendance of the 
visitation and service are required to wear masks. Interment will be in 
the Great Bend Cemetery. 

The family wishes for her memorials to go to 
the organ fund at Concordia Lutheran Church, Hoisington, in care of

Dorothy Mae Kasten, age 94, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 
2021, at the Wallace County Community Care Center in Sharon Springs, 
Kansas.&nbsp; She was born on September 2, 1927, in Russell, Kansas, the 
daughter of Bert &amp; Clara Morgenstern Potter.&nbsp; A resident of Scott 
City, Kansas, since 1956, she moved to Sharon Springs, Kansas, in 2016.&nbsp; 
She was a homemaker and a nurse's aide.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, UMW, and Eastern Star in Scott City, Kansas.

On October 5, 1947, she married Carl G. Kasten in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; He passed away on August 18, 2010, in Scott City, Kansas.

Survivors include her Three Sons, Gerald L. &amp; Janet Kasten of 
Skandia, Michigan, Donald H. &amp; Linda Kasten of Houston, Texas, and 
Larry B. &amp; Lynn Kasten of Sharon Springs, Kansas, One Brother - 
Robert Potter of Osage City, Kansas, Eight Grandchildren, and Nine 
Great-Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her Husband, Two Sisters - Wanda Bird and Darlene Caldwell, and One Grandson - Christopher.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Steven Wasinger, age 49, of Hays, Kansas died Sunday, September 12, 2021, at KU Medical Center Kansas City, Kansas.

He was born March 11, 1972, to Raymond J. “Ray” and Janice (Braun) Wasinger.&nbsp; He married Kerry L. (Terhune) on September 28, 2002, in Victoria, Kansas.

He was an accountant and IT specialist for Da Mar Resources Inc. for about ten years. He also worked for Stromgren Supports until they closed.&nbsp; He was member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays.&nbsp; He grew up in Victoria and was a 1990 graduate of Victoria High School, and received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; Steven was an avid Syfy movie and Star Trek fan, enjoyed camping, watching his kids activities, and spending time with the family.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Kerry Wasinger, of the home; his children, Kyle Wasinger and Emma Wasinger, both of the home; his mother, Janice Wasinger, Victoria, KS; his brother, David Wasinger, Victoria, KS; his sister, Melissa Mayers and husband, John, Hays, KS; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Stephen and Susan (Wetherell) Terhune; Jamesport, MO; his brother-in-law, Michael Terhune and wife, Kim, Jamesport, MO; five nephews and nieces, Sadie and Rhett Wasinger; Madison, Jaycie Mayers, and one on the way; and Ella Terhune.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his father; his grandparents, Mike and Georgine&nbsp; (Windholz) Wasinger; and Ben and Celestine (Dreiling) Braun.

Steven Wasinger

Betty M. Jane Gibbs, 98, of Russell, Kansas, died on Friday, September 10, 2021, at the Wheatland Nursing Home in Russell.

Betty was born on September 9, 1923, in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania 
the daughter of Walter and Mary (Chambers) Mason.&nbsp; As a young girl, she 
moved to Jamestown, New York, where she attended local schools and 
graduated from Jamestown High School.&nbsp; She worked for 30 plus years as a
 factory worker for the Jamestown Veneer and Plywood Factory.&nbsp; She was 
united in marriage to Phillip Gibbs and from this union they were 
blessed with a son they named Phillip.

Her son Phillip Gibbs is her only survivor and lives in Russell, 
Kansas. Cremation has been selected by the family and a memorial service

Betty M. Jane Gibbs, 98, of Russell, Kansas, died on Friday, September 10, 2021, at the Wheatland Nursing Home in Russell.Betty was born on September 9, 1923, in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania 
the daughter of Walter and Mary (Chambers) Mason.&nbsp; As a young girl, she 
moved to Jamestown, New York, where she attended local schools and 
graduated from Jamestown High School.&nbsp; She worked for 30 plus years as a
 factory worker for the Jamestown Veneer and Plywood Factory.&nbsp; She was 
united in marriage to Phillip Gibbs and from this union they were 
blessed with a son they named Phillip.Her son Phillip Gibbs is her only survivor and lives in Russell, 
Kansas. Cremation has been selected by the family and a memorial service
 will be held at a later date at the Petterson Funeral Home in 
Frewsburg, New York.&nbsp; Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas 
is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.

Glenn L. Headley, 84, of Salina passed away Sunday, 
December 27, at Salina Presbyterian Manor. He was born April 29, 1936, to 
Clifford and Ethel Headley in Downs, Kansas, the fifth of six children. 


Upon graduation from Downs High School in 1954, Glenn moved to Salina, 
Kansas. As a freshman at Kansas Wesleyan, Glenn began working at 
Stevenson's Clothing which turned into his lifelong profession, 
eventually owning his own men's clothing store for 40 years in Salina's 
Kraft Manor. In 1958 Glenn married Elaine Selden of Clyde, KS and 
celebrated 45 years of marriage. From this union Glenn and Elaine had 
three children: Marlys, Sara and Ross.

Glenn was preceded in death by his wife Elaine, parents Clifford and 
Ethel, sister June Lindblom, and brother Howard Headley. Glenn is 
survived by his children Marlys Headley of Columbia, SC; Sara Marinakis 
(Jim) of Lenexa; Ross Headley (Joy) of Olathe; five grandchildren: 
Connor Tillman, Evan Tillman, Michael Marinakis, Hudson Headley and 
Julia Headley; and brother Marvin Headley, sisters Juanita Wilcox and 
Ruth Harris and 15 nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Glenn's life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, 
September 18 at First United Methodist Church, 122 N. 8th St., Salina, 
KS. In keeping with current CDC guidelines, we ask all who attend the 
service to wear a mask. We also ask that you wear your&nbsp; favorite suit 
and tie that you bought from Headley's Clothing. Burial will immediately
 follow the service at Gypsum Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Scottish Rite Valley of Salina and Isis Shriners in care of Ryan Mortuary.

Glenn L. Headley

Alvin L. Matheson, 82, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, 
September 7, 2021, at the Russell Regional Hospital with his family by 
his side.

Alvin was born October 4, 1938, in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; He was one of four 
children born to Raymond and Frances (Terry) Matheson.&nbsp; He grew up on 
the farm one mile west of Natoma and was a Natoma Rural High School 
graduate.&nbsp; He then attended Ft. Hays State University.

Alvin served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 to 1964.&nbsp; He
 was stationed at the Hickman A.F.B. in Hawaii.&nbsp; After his military 
duty, Alvin returned to the Natoma area and was apart of the Natoma 
Police Department.&nbsp; Then while attending college he worked for the Hays 
City Police Department.&nbsp; Then he joined the Kansas State Troopers 
working over 20 years in Ellsworth County and six years in Russell 
County.&nbsp; Then he was the Russell County Under Sheriff until his 
retirement in 1996.

Alvin was united in marriage to DeeAnn Bray Wittman on October 28, 1995, in Russell.&nbsp; They made their home in the Russell area.

Alvin was active in the Trinity United Methodist Church and served on
 many committees in the Church.&nbsp; He was a Farm Bureau Board member, the 
Natoma American Legion Post and the Russell Township Board.&nbsp; When he was
 younger, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors.&nbsp; Later in life
 he enjoyed coffee time twice a day at McDonalds and spending as much 
time as he could with his grandchildren.

Alvin’s surviving family include his wife of 25 years DeeAnn of the 
home; daughter, Tamara Anglin of Russell, Kansas; sisters, Patty Jo Dale
 of Dallas, Georgia and Marthana Reynolds of Russell, Kansas; and three 
grandchildren Kaylee, Johnny and Michael Anglin.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, son David Wittman and 
brother Larry Matheson. Celebration of Alvin’s Life will be held at 
10:30 AM, Thursday, September 16, 2021 at the Trinity United Methodist 
Church.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation 
will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 
Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, with the family present to greet friends

Fred Edward Barber, 92, Hays, died 
peacefully in his sleep&nbsp;on Friday morning, September 10, 2021, at 
HaysMed.&nbsp; He was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and 
friend.

Fred was born to Edward and Sophia 
(Walker) Barber on February 13, 1929, in Logan, Kansas.&nbsp; He was the 
youngest of seven children and was much loved by his older siblings.&nbsp; 
Fred married the love of his life, Georgine Peters, on November 7, 1949,
 and together they raised three very loved children.

Fred had a passion for his work in the 
oil business.&nbsp; He left high school to work on an oil rig in Graham 
County and spent the next 75 years in the oil fields of Kansas, Oklahoma
 and Colorado, eventually owning a successful wireline service company.&nbsp;
 He was a bright man and a very hard worker who had the natural ability 
to get along with others.&nbsp; He was a quiet, respectful leader with a 
solid sense of how to run a good business.&nbsp; He continued to work until 
this past year when he finally decided he would retire and take life 
easy.

In addition to his passion for his work,&nbsp; he also enjoyed raising cattle.&nbsp; Although he only made it a “hobby,” he
 enjoyed pulling his pickup into the pasture and seeing the cows come 
running for the range cubes he kept in the back.&nbsp; He always gave his 
cows treats, so if they got out of the pasture through a break in the 
fence, all he had to do was drive into the pasture and watch them come 
back through the break looking for range cubes.&nbsp; He’d get the cow back 
and fix the fence until next time.&nbsp; His good-natured care and compassion
 carried over into every aspect of his life.

Throughout his life and especially as a
 father and grandfather, Fred was also very patient and thoughtful.&nbsp; The
 skills that made him a good manager also made him a good provider and 
caretaker of his family.&nbsp; Fred valued the importance of education and 
supported his children and grandchildren in all their educational 
endeavors, taking great pride in his family and always encouraging them 
in any way he could.

Although Fred may be gone, his legacy of dedication, love and kindness will live on through his family and friends.

Fred is survived by his wife: Georgine 
of Hays, his children: Frederick Barber and wife Fran of Trophy Club, 
TX, Gloria Jones and husband David of Waterville, ME, and Louise 
Smith-Klitzke and husband Jason of Wilson Lake in Kansas, his six 
grandchildren: Kelly Rashada, Patrick Barber, Lauren Jones McKown, David
 Jones, Mallory Harshbarger, and Dakota Smith, and seven 
great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 
3:00 pm until 7:00, with a vigil service at 6:00 pm, all on Thursday, 
September 16, 2021 at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.&nbsp; A private 
family inurnment will be at a later date in Buchanan Cemetery, Graham 
County.&nbsp;

Donna June Hendrich went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus 
Christ, on September 7, 2021.&nbsp; Donna accepted Jesus as her personal 
Savior and was filled with the Holy Spirit at age five.&nbsp; She loved the 
Lord and served Him throughout her life.&nbsp; She was born in Kansas City, 
Missouri, to James and Alice Lauchlan on January 4, 1931. She graduated 
from Westport High School in 1949. &nbsp;She worked in Kansas City until her 
marriage to John R. Hendrich on December 1, 1954.&nbsp; They farmed in the 
Goodland area until his death on April 9, 1990.&nbsp; She moved to Wichita in
 1994.

Donna is survived by her six children and their families including 10
 grandchildren and two great grandchildren:&nbsp; Julie and Rick Reitz 
(Denver, CO); Jan and Dennis Berner (Augusta, KS); Jamie Hendrich 
(Wichita, KS); Alice and Ron Debrick (Wichita, KS); Betsy and Mark

Marvin Carl Zimmer, 73, Hays, died Friday, September 10, 2021, at The Willow House in Hays.

He was born November 12, 1947, in Hays, 
the son of Albert and Caroline (Kober) Zimmer.&nbsp; He was a graduate of 
Schoenchen High School and a graduate of Fort Hays State University with
 a Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics.&nbsp; On July 28, 1972, he was united in
 marriage to Janice D. Oller at St. Joseph Catholic Church, and they 
celebrated 49 years of marriage.&nbsp; Marvin worked both domestic and 
international for Halliburton Services, retiring after 32 years.&nbsp; While 
with Halliburton, he worked in Kansas, Wyoming, Alaska, Libya and 
Algeria.&nbsp; Marvin became an independent contractor with BP and offshore 
with Pioneer from 2005 until 2013, and then he worked for Auto Auction 
in Hays.&nbsp; He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the St. 
Anthony Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #4166, Schoenchen.&nbsp; 
Marvin enjoyed gardening, computers, target shooting at the family farm,
 and was an FHSU football and basketball fan.&nbsp; Most of all, he loved his
 family.

Survivors include his wife Janice of 
Hays, a son: Greg Zimmer of Hays, two sisters: Marian Spittles of Hays 
and Wilma Payne and husband John of Berryton, a sister-in-law: Mary 
Zimmer of Hays, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his 
parents, a son: Clayton Zimmer, two brothers: Gerald and Eugene Zimmer, 
and a niece: Crystal White.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at
