Georgena Mamie Wendling, 100, of Casper, Wyoming passed away on Thursday August 12, 2021, at Shepherd of the Valley Care Center. Georgena was born to Nicklaus Joseph Denning and Barbara Weigel on July 14, 1921, in Hays, Kansas. 

Georgena married Albert Wendling in 1937 and went on to have three surviving children: Albert “Sonny” Wendling Jr., Timothy Everett Wendling, and Kenneth John Nicklaus Wendling. Georgena was an Avon lady for 41 years in the Casper area, only stopping her route at the age of 92. Her customers might fondly remember Georgena for her jet-black hair and face-full of makeup. She was a spunky delight to all who knew her. 

Georgena is survived by her sons: Albert “Sonny” Wendling, Tim (Caroline) Wendling, and Ken (LaDonna) Wendling; five Grandchildren: Debbie (Mike) Dewell, Carla Kirby, Nick (Susan) Wendling, Nicole (Jason) Sponsler, and Sabrina (Eddie) Wendling-Lynch; ten Great-Grandchildren; and numerous Great-Great-Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Albert Sr., all but one sibling (Rita), and her daughter-in-law (Barbara Wendling). 

Funeral service will be held at Saint Patrick’s Church on Country Club Road on August 24th at 1:00pm with Father Gary officiating the service. There is a viewing between 4:00-6:00pm on August 23rd at Bustards Funeral Home. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all staff at Shephard of the Valley Care Home. Georgena Mamie Wendling

Alan R. Stewart, age 82, passed away on Monday, August 16, 2021, at 
his home in Scott City, Kansas. He was born on March 30, 1939, in Scott 
City, the son of George Eugene and Madeline Harrington Stewart. Alan was
 a resident of Scott City since moving from Healy in 1958. Alan worked 
in Law Enforcement most of his life and served his community as sheriff 
for many years.

Alan was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Scott City as well
 as the Kansas Sheriff’s Association and the Kansas Police Officers 
Association.

On September 19, 1998, Alan married Alice Workman in Scott City. She survives.

Survivors include his wife - Alice Stewart of Scott City, Kansas, 
three daughters - Marsha Hollaway of Scott City, Donna &amp; John 
Dummermuth of Manhattan, Kansas, and Brenda &amp; Joe Turpin of 
Granbury, Texas, Four sons - Dan &amp; Araceli Stewart of Holcomb, 
Kansas, Bob &amp; Kim Stewart of Olathe, Kansas, Ryan &amp; Emily 
Stewart of Oak Grove, Kentucky, and Earl Stewart of Oak Grove, Kentucky,
 15 Grandchildren, and 22 Great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by&nbsp;his parents, one brother, and one sister.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2021, at 
the First Baptist Church of Scott City, Kansas, with Don Williams 
presiding.

Interment will be in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.

Longtime Goodland, KS resident Billy Joe Thornburg, 74, passed away 
on Saturday, August 15, 2021, at the Goodland Regional Medical Center in 
Goodland.

Bill was born on September 12, 1946, in Perryton, TX to Lilburn Joe 
and Nellie Lilian (Hood) Thornburg.&nbsp; He was one of four children.&nbsp; The 
family moved to Goodland, where Bill graduated from Goodland High School
 in 1967.&nbsp; He then went on to attend Vo-Tech College in Goodland in the 
Drafting Department.

On June 8, 1968, Bill married Kay Boudreau at the Brewster United Methodist Church.&nbsp; To this union, one son, Neal was born.

Bill loved working construction and in his younger days he worked for
 Caldwell’s setting up mobile homes.&nbsp; Later in life, Bill started Bill’s
 Shootin Shop in Goodland, where he enjoyed visiting with people from 
all over.&nbsp; He loved hunting, and fishing, collecting football cards.&nbsp; He
 especially loved to Goose Hunt.

He is survived by his wife Kay of the home, his son Neal (Stacy) 
Thornburg of Goodland, three grandchildren; Chantel Thornburg of Ellis, 
KS, Kim (Dale) Brungardt of Colby, KS and Sydnee Thornburg of Dallas, 
TX; one great grandchild, Fairlane Brungardt and one on the way.&nbsp; He is 
also survived by two brothers; Gerald Thornburg and Larry Thornburg, one
 sister Norma Kuehler, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and 
friends.

Billy Joe Thornburg

Ruby Bell Palmer Seaman Bedore was born June 10, 1925, on a farm near 
Woodston, Kansas and departed this life August 16, 2021. She was the 
second daughter and one of five children of George A. and Mabel M. 
Walker Palmer.
 Ruby Bell grew up on the family farm, attended the Chalk Mound 
School and graduated from Woodston Rural High School in 1943. She 
attended a summer teachers’ training program at Fort Hays State College 
then taught for four years in rural Rooks County at Hrabe School, Chalk 
Mound and Survey schools.
 Ruby Bell married Victor E. Seaman September 5, 1948, beginning 
their lives together on a farm near Alton, KS until 1953 when they moved
 to Stockton. Her son, Dwight Seaman, joined the family in October 1958,
 and remains Ruby’s only child even as she treated nieces and nephews as
 her own. Victor Seaman preceded her in death in March 1977. She later
 married Joseph “Bill” Bedore in November 1977. Bill Bedore died in 
June 1996.
 With service to her family and the community in mind, Ruby worked a 
variety of jobs while living in Stockton, Kansas. Her jobs and 
responsibilities included work as a café cook and waitress, employee in 
cream stations, a clerk and bookkeeper for Phelps Drug Store, a clerk in
 the Register of Deeds office, and bus driver for U.S.D. 271 for 12 
years. She was a Senior Companion from 1996 to 2013. Her work as a 
Senior Companion touched many families and was a fulfilling role for 
Ruby Bell. She was a member of and regular volunteer for the Lion’s 
Club and actively attended church throughout her life.
 Quilting remained a passion for Ruby Bell, providing her with a 
creative outlet and hobby that drew in friends who also loved quilting. 
Relatives and friends who received her quilts will be kept warm from her
 efforts for years to come. 
 She leaves to mourn a son, Dwight L. Seaman and his wife Betty of 
Madison, Mississippi, grandson Travis Seaman and his wife Mallory of 
Akron, Ohio, and granddaughter Jessica Beer and her husband Alexander of
 Denver, Colorado. Great-grandchildren include Travis Seaman’s 
children, Saffron, Benjamin and Robert. 
 Family members partaking in mourning Ruby’s passing include niece 
Debra Schellinger of Stockton, KS, nephew Ron Eggers and his wife Dana 
and their children of Parsons, KS, nephew Bob Eggers of Gilbert AZ,

are two sisters, Florence Walker and her husband Floyd, and Betty Eggers
 and her husband Edmond, two brothers, Junior Palmer and his wife Rita, 
and Roy Lee Palmer and his wife Rosalee, two nephews, Dale Palmer and 
Terry Eggers, four nieces, Shirley Desaire, Candra Shinn, Juanita Wallis
 and Joyce Groft, and step-daughter Linda Hrabe and her husband Leonard.
 Along with her many relatives, Ruby’s passing will be observed by a 
host of lifelong friends and neighbors. Her family thanks the caring 
staff at Solomon Valley Manor for years of care and attention.
 A Graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the
 Stockton City Cemetery at 3 PM. Visitation will be on Friday from 2PM 
until 8PM at the funeral home in Stockton.

Ruby Bell Bedore

Joseph Dean Arwine, 81, died on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at his home in
 Cimarron. He was born on September 6, 1939, at Southwest City, Missouri
 the son of James Martin &amp; Helen Pauline (Lancaster) Arwine. He 
married Rea June Bourne on July 20, 1962, at Albuquerque, New Mexico. 
She died on June 18, 2001. He later married Roberta Swaney McDowell on 
December 24, 2004 at Cimarron. 
Joe attended Garden City schools and joined the United States Army right
 out of high school. He served from 1957 until 1960 mainly stationed at
 Hornsby Missile Base in Washington. After his discharge he returned 
to Garden City and worked at several places before beginning g a 36 year
 career as a Salesman for Berry Tractor. After retiring he moved to 
Cimarron where he was known as the “lawn mower man” for fixing mowers 
and other small engines. Joe was a witty, new no strangers type of 
person who loved to talk about cars. He was a 60 year member of Harry H.
 Renick American Legion Post # 9 and John J. Haskell VFW Post # 2279. 
He enjoyed racing cars in his younger years and recently fishing, 
boating, camping, traveling and the daily cleaning of his vehicles. 
He is survived by his Wife- Roberta Arwine, 2 Sons- Joseph D. Arwine II 
of Waynesville North Carolina and Robert R. Arwine of Garden City, 2 
Daughters- Machelle Lee Silk of Bella Vista, Arkansas and Deanna Sue 
Reidy of Kearney, Nebraska, Brother- James Arwine of Garden City, 3 
Sisters- Janis Mastin of Garden City, Jowilla Couch of Scott City and 
Joyce Triebold of Woodland Park, Colorado, 4 Step-Children- Jerry 
Meredith of Stafford, Robin Lundeen of Wamego, Jim McDowell and Dennis 
McDowell both of Fowler, 8 Grandchildren, 8 Great-Grandchildren, 13 Step
 Grandchildren and 10 Step Great-Grandchildren. 
He was preceded in death by his Parents, First Wife, Twin Brother- Jack Lee Arwine and Granddaughter- Monica Burns. 
Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM Monday at First Southern Baptist 
Church in Garden City with Rev Randy Caddell and Rev John Harms 
officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in Garden City with
 military honors by Kansas Army National Guard Honor Guard and American 
Legion District 8 Honor Guard.

Joseph Dean Arwine

Debbie Tasset, 65, died August 16, 2021, at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City, Kansas.

She was born May 3, 1956, at Ness City, Kansas the daughter of Paul 
and Betty (Fose) Kraft. On January 8, 1983, she married Tom Tasset of 
Spearville, Kansas. They lived on a farm south of Spearville. She was a 
farm wife and she loved spending time with her granddaughter. She was a 
beautiful person inside and out, she would so anything for you. Debbie 
had a big smile and loved being at the lake with her sister.

Survivors include: her husband, Tom Tasset, Spearville; her daughter,
 Aubrey Tasset, Wichita; her granddaughter, Leiyah, Wichita; her sister,
 Cindy Klein, Dodge City; 2 brothers, Tony Kraft, Dodge City, Terry 
Kraft, Palm Springs, California; many nieces, nephews, and lots of 
friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Kraft in 2009 and her mother, Betty Kraft, July 2021.

Vigil Service will be at 7:00 pm Friday, August 20, 2021, at St. John 
the Baptist Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 am Saturday 
at the church with Fr. John Forkuoh presiding. There will be no public 
viewing, cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the register Friday
 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City.

Debbie Tasset

James "Jim" Craig Malone was born on February 8, 1962, the seventh 
child born to Park and Virginia (Pelle) Malone.&nbsp; Jim attended St. 
Charles Academy and graduated from Stratton High School in 1980.

Jim worked for several farmers in the Stratton area and Kit Carson 
County Road and Bridge before he attended line school in Grand 
Junction.&nbsp; His career as a lineman found him working for contractors 
that traveled to build power line and living in a camper on the road.&nbsp; 
Jim traveled to Louisiana after hurricane Katrina and worked many ice 
storms.&nbsp; His biggest accomplishment as a lineman was maintaining power 
lines working out of a helicopter.

Jim lived his life by his own rules – often times giving his parents a
 run for their money!&nbsp; When Ken was to receive his diploma from 
Northeastern Junior College, the two of them switched places and Jim 
walked through the commencement ceremony.&nbsp; When the Dean handing out 
diplomas questioned his appearance, he rattled off the important details
 and was hesitantly given the diploma in place of his brother Ken.&nbsp; Jim 
had a love for motorcycles from an early age, starting with dirt bikes 
and ending with Harley Davidson street bikes.&nbsp; Jim attended many rallies
 from Daytona to Sturgis.&nbsp; He enjoyed riding with his brother Don – most
 recently meeting in Sterling for a short conversation over lunch which 
consisted of a can of Mountain Dew.&nbsp; Jim loved the outdoors and the many
 activities that it provided.&nbsp; He was an avid hunter of all things – 
pheasant, antelope, deer, elk, and bear.&nbsp; He also enjoyed fishing and 
riding ATVs in the mountains with family and friends.&nbsp; While Jim 
appreciated all things fast and outdoors, he also had a huge heart.&nbsp; He 
visited his sister Bev regularly, always made sure his mom had a nice 
Christmas gift, and would show up to help without hesitation.&nbsp; His love 
and dedication for his family will be missed.

Jim reconnected with a childhood family friend, Cindy (Fox) Folsom 
and they chose to share their lives in Evans, Colorado.&nbsp; Jim and Cindy 
went on many adventures, recently visiting Jackson Hole, Wyoming where 
they had a great time.&nbsp; Jim loved Cindy’s kids and grandkids like his 
own.&nbsp; His eyes lit up when he spoke about Tony (Xavier) and Tweetie 
(Violet).

Jim went to his eternal home on Sunday, August 1, 2021, in Wichita, KS
 due to injuries sustained in an ATV accident on July 17.&nbsp; He is 
preceded in death by his parents Park and Virginia Malone, siblings

Sarah Elizabeth Wright Simpson, 89, passed away August 15, 2021 at Country Place Senior Living, Hoisington, KS.

Graveside service will be held, August 25, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in the 
Veterans Section of Park Hill Cemetery, Macon Road, Columbus, GA.

Sarah, daughter of the late Preacher Paul T and Annie Belle (Watkins) Wright was born December 27, 1931, Natural Bridge, VA. &nbsp;

She was Baptist by faith and one of the founding members of Wynnbrook
 Baptist Church, Columbus, GA. She taught Adult Ladies Bible Class on 
Sundays for over forty years at churches in GA, VA, RI, KS and HI. In 
1969, she became a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. 
She served as Regent, Oglethorpe DAR Chapter, Columbus, GA. She also 
served as a Chairman at the GA DAR State level. She was a member of the 
Columbus Students Club and served all level of Officers positions to 
include President.

She graduated from Toccoa High School, Toccoa, GA in 1948 and later 
graduated from Winthrop College, Rock Hill, S.C. in 1951. She taught 
home economics at the Tamassee DAR school, 1951-1952.

During college she met the love of her life, Richard Russell Simpson.
 They married June 2, 1952 in Westminster, S.C. The next 30 years, Sarah
 traveled with Richard during his military service in the Army. She 
enjoyed moving from Post to Post totaling 13 times with their final 
destination Fort Benning, GA. Upon Richard’s retirement from the Army, 
as a Colonel, in 1982, they settled in Upatoi, GA where she spent the 
next 34 years. In March 2014, she moved to the Gardens of Calvary 
Assisted Living, Columbus, GA.

September 2016, she moved to Hoisington, KS and lived with her 
daughter and son-in-law for 3½ years. January 2019, she moved to 
Brookdale Senior Living, Great Bend, KS moving in December 2019 to 
Country Place Senior Living, Hoisington, KS. &nbsp;

Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, and only sister, Julia 
Rose Sublett. On March 8, 2013 her husband, Richard, passed away.

Sarah and Richard were blessed with three children. Richard R. 
Simpson, Jr. (Theresa) of Whites, GA, Paula F. Manweiler (Gene) of 
Hoisington, KS and Elizabeth A. Simpson, Denver, CO. She has four 
grandchildren, Tracy Engerman, Brooke Stillwell, Shanna Simpson and 
Richard R. Simpson, III. In addition, three great-grandchildren, Owen 
Shepheard, Molly Engerman and Copeland Stillwell.

Sarah Elizabeth Simpson

Darlene Mae Jensen Miller was a loving wife, mother, sister, 
grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She died Sunday, August
 15 in Colby, Kansas at the age of 84. 
She was born to Shirley and Henry Jensen on April 2, 1937. During high 
school in North Platte, Nebraska, Darlene met Donald K. Miller on a 
double date. They were married shortly thereafter upon her high school 
graduation; they recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. 
Together, they had two children Jeffrey and Mark. 
Darlene’s primary loves were her family and friends (and maybe her 
crossword puzzles) but she also valued her professional career. Whether 
playing bridge with her girlfriends or balancing books behind the 
scenes, Darlene had an affinity for numbers. She began bookkeeping 
unexpectedly when a jewelry store owner showed up at her front door in 
Denver with a stack of ledgers in hand saying hopefully “I heard you 
could keep books...” That propitious encounter began Darlene’s career in
 bookkeeping that eventually led her to earning an AA degree in 
municipal accounting and working for Paul Steel, CPA. 
She raised her boys alongside her two cherished sisters and their eleven
 children. Weekends at the lake and family holiday dinners with their 
“Daddy” hold strong, bonding and loving memories for them all. 
Darlene loved life and adored her husband, her sons and their families. 
Her five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren delighted her with 
their antics, love, ambitions and quick-wit. Darlene’s own good humor, 
sage advice and generous loving nature endeared her to her family as 
well. 
Darlene relished traveling internationally with Don, her sisters and her
 friends. She also enjoyed with Don behind the wheel of their RV and 
their beloved dachshund perched between them. When traveling, Darlene 
appreciated seeing as much as possible as quickly as possible. But when 
it came to the people she met while traveling, Darlene’s pace relaxed; 
she was consistently friendly and welcoming making new friends easily. 
Darlene and Don also had life-long friends who would enjoy regular 
Saturday afternoon hamburger and beer dates. She kept in touch with 
friends who moved away from Colby and deeply treasured their friendship 
and their history together. 
Darlene was a humble, godly woman who loved the Lord; she embodied 
faithfulness, compassion, generosity and forgiveness. Her unwavering 
faith gave her strength, encouragement and hope. She attended Trinity 
Lutheran church where her sons joined her on Sunday mornings as they 
grew up. She volunteered as the treasurer at Trinity Lutheran for many 
years. 
Though her own memory faded with dementia, Darlene’s kind, gentle and 
loving disposition did not fade as her attentive family and loving 
caregivers at Prairie Senior Center would attest. 
Darlene was preceded in death by her mother Shirley Jensen Lunkwitz, her
 father Henry Jensen, and her sisters Beverly Saathoff and Bonnie Baade.
 She is survived by her beloved husband Don Miller; son Jeffrey Miller 
and wife Diana; son Mark Miller and wife Darcie; grandchildren, Holly 
Haines and husband Burk, Aaron Miller and wife Sarah, Nate Miller and 
wife Nicole, Luke Miller, and Ellie Miller as well as her 
great-grandchildren: Jonathan Miller, Matthew Miller, Brewer Haines, 
Geneva Haines; her brother Raymond Lunkwitz; and numerous treasured 
nieces and nephews.

Darlene Mae Jensen Miller

Velma LaVerne Baker, 94, Hays, died Sunday, August 15, 2021, at Brookdale Hays.

She was born February 22, 1927, in Hays,
 the daughter of Theodore Harvey and Foila Bernice (Joy) Gosser.&nbsp; Velma 
was raised and educated in Ellis County and graduated from Hays High 
School in 1945.&nbsp; On March 3, 1946, she was united in marriage to Donald 
E. Baker in Hays.&nbsp; They celebrated 61 years of marriage before he 
preceded her in death on July 29, 2007.&nbsp; She was a lifetime member of 
Trinity Lutheran Church, and a member of the Buckeye Ladies Club and the
 Ellis County Historical Society.&nbsp; Velma was a housewife and for 28 
years was a career Army wife, with her husband serving in World War II, 
the Korean War, and the Vietnam conflict.&nbsp; Donald and Velma were 
stationed with their children in many different places around the 
world.&nbsp; She enjoyed genealogy scrapbooking, skydiving five times, and 
spending time with her grandchildren and family.

She is survived by three sons: Warren 
Baker and wife Barb of Nixa, MO, Stuart Baker and wife Janet of 
Highlandville, MO, and Jay Baker of Woodland Park, CO, three daughters:

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on
 Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Pastor 
Brenda Rodger officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Mt. Allen Cemetery.&nbsp; 
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 on Friday at Hays Memorial 
Chapel Funeral Home and from 9:00 am until 10:00 on Saturday at the

 the daughter of Theodore Harvey and Foila Bernice (Joy) Gosser.&nbsp; Velma 
was raised and educated in Ellis County and graduated from Hays High 
School in 1945.&nbsp; On March 3, 1946, she was united in marriage to Donald 
E. Baker in Hays.&nbsp; They celebrated 61 years of marriage before he 
preceded her in death on July 29, 2007.&nbsp; She was a lifetime member of 
Trinity Lutheran Church, and a member of the Buckeye Ladies Club and the
 Ellis County Historical Society.&nbsp; Velma was a housewife and for 28 
years was a career Army wife, with her husband serving in World War II, 
the Korean War, and the Vietnam conflict.&nbsp; Donald and Velma were 
stationed with their children in many different places around the 
world.&nbsp; She enjoyed genealogy scrapbooking, skydiving five times, and 
spending time with her grandchildren and family.She is survived by three sons: Warren 
Baker and wife Barb of Nixa, MO, Stuart Baker and wife Janet of 
Highlandville, MO, and Jay Baker of Woodland Park, CO, three daughters:

Velma LaVerne Baker

B. Dean Rupp, 85, of Hays, Kansas, 
passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, August 14, 2021, after a
 battle the last year with various health issues.

Dean was born to Wendelin and Helen 
(Rupp) Rupp in Hays on June 13, 1936.&nbsp; He attended Hays Schools through 
age 12 when his mother married William Honas and the family moved to the
 Honas farm north of Ellis.&nbsp; He graduated from Ellis High in 1955 and 
then pursued an education at Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; Following this
 he served in the military for two years.

He married Kaye Fox, in White Plains, 
Kentucky in August 1960.&nbsp; They were divorced.&nbsp; In June l969, he married 
Betty Watts in Mankato, Minnesota.&nbsp; He and his wife owned and operated 
Rupp Drapery and Wallcovering for 25 years, being the largest such store
 between Kansas City and Denver.&nbsp; After retirement he pursued more 
education by auditing French, Spanish and German classes for about 12 
years at FHSU.&nbsp; Although he didn't like to fly, he and his wife traveled
 to Canada and all of the United States except the northeast region.

Dean had a love for helping others and 
served as a companion in the Compeer Program of High Plains Mental 
Health.&nbsp; He was on the Selective Service Board and Developmental Service
 of Northwest Kansas Board for several years. He loved animals and birds
 and belonged to the Pigeon Club of this area, raising white utility 
pigeons which he shipped to all parts of the U.S. When someone said 
“pinochle”, he was always ready to play.

Dean loved being with his family and 
cherished the holidays spent with them. He often came up with what they 
called “weird jokes” and they still laughed or rolled their eyes. He 
often depended on God to help him through certain situations and was 
grateful for his faith.

He leaves behind his wife, Betty of 52 
years, sons Troy (Peggy) of Ellis, Ty (Teresa) of Ellis, daughters Trish
 Rupp of Hays and Tonya Schuster (Bryan) of Topeka, and his beloved Rat 
Terrier, Pic.&nbsp; He is also survived by three grandchildren and three 
great children all of Topeka, one brother Wayne (Norma) of Weeping 
Water, NE, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.

A Memorial Service will be at 10:30 am 
on Friday, August 20, 2021 at Hays Christian Church.&nbsp; The family will 
receive friends from 6:00 pm until 7:30 on Thursday at Hays Memorial 
Chapel Funeral Home and from 10:00 am until 10:30 On Friday at the

Heather Hecky-Gage, age 42 of Hays, Kansas died Thursday, August 12, 2021, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. She was born September 1, 1978 in San Jose, California to Sylvester K. and Gayle L. (Mallory) Hecky. She married Lee R. Gage on April 22, 2014 in Reno, NV.

She was a paraeducator for three years at the Hays Middle School for USD 439. She grew up in California and Hawaii, and attended high school in California. She moved to Hays in 2016, and enjoyed fine wine, crafting and TV crime shows.

Survivors include her husband Lee Gage, of the home; her children Gavin Jacobson, Bodhi Gage, and Sharon Gage, all of the home; her mother Gayle Hecky-Kurup, Hays, KS; three brothers, Jacob Kurup and wife, Kristin, Russell; Nicholas Kurup, Hays, KS;&nbsp;Kaniela Hecky-Kamaka, Waianae, HI; her sister, Melissa Sennett and Brian Summers, Hays, KS; and a brother-in-law, Henry May, Wichita, KS.

She was preceded in death by her father and her sister, April May.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2021, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601. Douglas A. Beck, 61, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Monday, August 9, 2021 at the Russell Regional Hospital.

Doug was born October 20, 1959, in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; He was one of four 
children born to Wesley Eugene and Katherine N. (Dinkel) Beck.&nbsp; He grew 
up in Russell and was a Class of 77 graduate of Russell High School.

Doug has done a variety of things throughout his life.&nbsp; He worked in 
the oilfields as a roustabout.&nbsp; He was a designer for King Of The Road.&nbsp;
 He worked on pipelines and his latest employment was with USD 407 as a 
Custodian and in the maintenance department.&nbsp; He had an artistic side to
 him that enjoyed drawing race cars.&nbsp; He was a racing enthusiast that 
enjoyed attending races in Topeka.&nbsp; Him and his big sister always had a 
great time gambling.&nbsp; He was well known for his grilling and smoking 
abilities.&nbsp; He loved spending time with his family and friends, 
especially his nieces, nephews and great niece.

Doug’s surviving family include his brother, Gerry Beck (Melanie) of 
Olathe, Kansas; sisters, Paula Shoemaker (Calvin) and Dianne Crawford of
 Victoria, Kansas; nieces, Madison Beck of Lawrence, Kansas, Julie Dawn 
of Seattle, Washington and McKayla Parton of Victoria, Kansas; nephew, 
Noah Beck of Olathe, Kansas; and great niece, Emma Parton of Victoria, 
Kansas.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents. 

A memorial service to 
celebrate Doug’s life will be held at a later date.&nbsp; Cremation has been

at his daughter’s home in Garden City, KS. He was born March 23, 1931, 
in Norton County to Vernon and Rosie (Taylor) Shearer. 
 Gerald grew up in Norton and was a 1949 Graduate of Norton Community
 High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1951-1954. Gerald
 married Anita Glenn on September 11, 1955, in Norton. He retired from 
the United States Postal Service as a Postmaster at the age of 55. 
Gerald was a member of the First Church of God, Harmonson Redd American 
Legion Post 63, and the National Rifle Association of America. In his 
spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and woodworking. Most 
of all, he loved spending time with his family and traveling in his 
Motor home with his wife and family. 
 Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anita, and 
siblings: Arnold, Dale and Eldon Shearer and Dorothy Morford. He is 
survived by his son, Steve Shearer and wife Annie of Minden, NE; 
daughter, Stacy Geil and husband John of Garden City, KS; four 
grandchildren; one great grandchild and siblings: Lonnie Shearer of

Gerald Raymond Shearer

Jackie Irvin Turnbull passed away on August 14, 2021, at Redbud Village 
in Plainville, Kansas, at the age of 89. He was born on November 17, 
1931, to Irvin and Montie (Atteberry) Turnbull in Coldwater, Kansas. 
Jack married Nola Nadine Bane on May 7, 1951, in Phillipsburg, Kansas. 
They were blessed with four children: Tony, Brenda, Jeff, and Tracy.
 Jack grew up one of ten children in Stockton, Kansas, and attended 
Stockton High School. Following high school, he joined the Air Force in 
1948, and then he worked in the oil fields for Lane Wells until 1965. He
 worked for Standard Oil Company as a jobber until 1970 when he started 
Turnbull Oil, Inc. He sold his business to Jeff in 1991 so that he and 
Nola could enjoy retirement together.
 Jack was a member of the First Christian Church and had served as a 
deacon and a trustee. He was a councilman in Plainville, a commissioner 
for Rooks County, a member of the Masonic Lodge, a member of the 
Plainville Fire Department, and a successful businessman.
 Jack loved being part of a large family which included many 
gatherings and reunions. As a young father, he enjoyed spending time 
with his family, playing games and cards, coaching many of the kids' 
sports, and attending all of their activities. Some of Jack's hobbies 
were fishing, hunting, square dancing, reading, and watching the Kansas 
City Royals. The most enjoyable retirement time was traveling with Nola 
in his fifth wheel across the United States. Later in his life, he loved
 spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as
 chatting over coffee with his buddies at Crawford Supply. From all of 
his experiences, he gave us strength, knowledge, and determination.
 Jack is survived by his wife Nola of Plainville; his children: Tony 
Turnbull and wife Cindy of Elk City, OK, Brenda Reiners of Hays, KS, 
Jeff Turnbull and wife Deb of Plainville, and Tracy Fellhoelter and 
husband Steve of Plainville; brother Jim (Judy) Turnbull of Hutchinson, 
KS, and sister Karrol Kirk of Hutchinson, KS; 14 grandchildren: Brett 
Turnbull, Jessie Turnbull, Travis (Sarah) Harrison, Grady (Chelsea) 
Foerster, Chelsey Foerster, Dustin Foerster, Jackie (Chris) Wehrli, 
Quentin (Tanya) Meyers, Racquel Meyers, Ashleigh (Ian) Mabb, Keegan 
Turnbull, Kristen (Drue) Herl, Shanna (Jared) Ganoung, Jenna (Corbin) 
Kuntzsch; and 29 great-grandchildren.
 Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Montie 
Turnbull; brothers: Billie, Dick, and Ronnie; and sisters: Marguerette 
Hulse, Pat Toelkes, Jane Drotts, and Linda Normandin.
 A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at 
10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Plainville and a graveside 
service at 1:30 p.m. at the Stockton Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday

 Jack is survived by his wife Nola of Plainville; his children: Tony 
Turnbull and wife Cindy of Elk City, OK, Brenda Reiners of Hays, KS, 
Jeff Turnbull and wife Deb of Plainville, and Tracy Fellhoelter and 
husband Steve of Plainville; brother Jim (Judy) Turnbull of Hutchinson, 
KS, and sister Karrol Kirk of Hutchinson, KS; 14 grandchildren: Brett 
Turnbull, Jessie Turnbull, Travis (Sarah) Harrison, Grady (Chelsea) 
Foerster, Chelsey Foerster, Dustin Foerster, Jackie (Chris) Wehrli, 
Quentin (Tanya) Meyers, Racquel Meyers, Ashleigh (Ian) Mabb, Keegan 
Turnbull, Kristen (Drue) Herl, Shanna (Jared) Ganoung, Jenna (Corbin) 
Kuntzsch; and 29 great-grandchildren.
 Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Montie 
Turnbull; brothers: Billie, Dick, and Ronnie; and sisters: Marguerette 
Hulse, Pat Toelkes, Jane Drotts, and Linda Normandin.
 A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at 
10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Plainville and a graveside 
service at 1:30 p.m. at the Stockton Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday
 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5:00
 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Plainville.

On Friday, August 13th, 2021, Carolyn Irene Schritter was called home to Jesus. Her husband, children, and sons-in-law were all with her at the time of her passing. She died at Prairie Senior Living Complex in Colby, KS, where she had resided for seven years.

Carolyn was born on May 10th, 1936, to Delbert and Inez (Fairbanks) Richardson. She was the oldest of their six children. After attending a multitude of schools, including Burlington, CO and Goodland, she graduated from the school in Kanorado. Carolyn’s community involvement included membership in the EHU, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and Slim and Trim. She retired from the Kanorado Port of Entry after 19 years of service.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Carolyn built a beautiful life and family with her husband of 66 years, Herbert Schritter. They married on Christmas Eve of 1954 in California before Herbert shipped overseas to serve in the Army. Carolyn gave birth to their first child, Evelyn, in 1957, their son, Neil, in 1958, and their youngest, Diane, in 1960. Carolyn served her family as a housewife and worked the family farm with Herbert. Carolyn loved being a grandmother, and was blessed with nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Carolyn was devoted to her faith in Jesus Christ. Her family takes comfort knowing that she is at peace in the loving arms of her Savior.&nbsp;

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Herbert Schritter; her three children, Evelyn (Don) Martin of Colby, Neil Schritter of Kanorado, and Diane (Tim) Leffler of Norcatur; grandchildren, Chad Mann of Kanorado, Aaron Mann of Kanorado, Erica (Travis) Lehman of Washington, KS, Sara Martin of Colby, Melissa Schritter of Goodland, Christophor (Tina) Schritter of Colby, Michael (Kristy) Karnes of Colby, Jessica Karnes of Norton, and Amy Kier of Norton; her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Marsha (Jack) Brachtenbach of Vinita, OK, Bill (Shauna) Richardson of Burlington, CO, and brother-in-law, Dave Poss of Hugo, CO, brother-in-law Albert (Carolee) Schritter of Emporia, sister-in-law Gertrude (Ted) Swayne of Goodland, and sister-in-law Vivian (Larry) McClung of Goodland; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.&nbsp;

She was greeted in heaven by her parents, Delbert and Inez, and stepfather, Addison Long; sister Nadyne Poss of Hugo, CO, brother Tony Richardson of Burlington, CO, and a stillborn sibling; and father and mother-in-law Rudolf and Christina (Lippert) Schritter.

Visitation will be held at Koons-Russell Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 from 5-7:00pm MT.&nbsp;

Funeral services will take place at 1:00pm MT on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Goodland, KS with Father Don Martin and Pastor Don McMillan officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.

Carolyn Irene Schritter

Melvina “Pug”  Baldwin, 86, passed on Feb 13, 2020.  She was born March 20, 1933, in Oklahoma and was known to everyone as “Pug”,a nickname given to her by her Dad because of her pug nose at birth. 

 The family moved to Glasco KS where Pug grew up.  She was a cheerleader and played drums the High School band.  Pug met her husband, Ray Baldwin whom she married on May 29, 1954 and to this union a son, Mark was born. They moved to Colorado in 1959 where they lived until 1997. 

 Pug and Ray moved back to Downs KS until Raymond passed in 2000.  She then moved to AZ in 2002 to live with her son and his family. Pug lived in Downs KS from 2007 till 2013, where she enjoyed being closer to her siblings Max and Roxie.  She moved back to Phoenix in 2013 till her passing in 2020.  She loved her family including all our dogs and the Broncos (the Broncos were pretty high on the love list).  That’s why Pug will be buried with her Bronco’s shirt she got for her last Christmas.  Pug is survived by her son Mark Baldwin, grandsons Nicholas and Eric Baldwin and great grandsons Haydan Baldwin &amp; Camen Mulholland.

Services will be at the grave site at the Glasco cemetery on August  18, 2021  at 11 am.

Carol Jane Wagner, 88, Rush Center, Kansas, died Thursday, August 12, 2021, at Wesley Trauma Center, Wichita, Kansas.

Carol was born April 27, 1933, in Rush County, Kansas, the daughter of Walter and Olive Vera “Ollie” (Johnson) Davis.&nbsp;

A lifetime resident of Rush County, Kansas, she was a wife, mother, 
grandmother, great-grandmother, school cook, bank employee at Timken 
State Bank, Timken, Kansas, and office assistant at Skillett and Sons 
Trucking, La Crosse, Kansas.&nbsp; After retiring, her family was her pride, 
joy and priority.&nbsp;

Carol graduated from La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas, &nbsp;in 
1951, and was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Rush Center, Kansas.&nbsp;

On April 12, 1953, she married Kenneth E. Wagner at the First 
Christian Church, La Crosse, Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death December 
23, 2010.

Survivors include:&nbsp; two sons, Duane Wagner and his wife, Pam, 
Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Rory Wagner and his wife, Joann, Manitou
 Springs, Colorado; one daughter, Cheryl Miller and her husband, Joe, 
Iola, Kansas; eight grandchildren, Jodi Hagan, Clint Wagner, Brooke 
Kern, Lindsey Wagner, Brett Wagner, Megan Cole, Mandy Roe and Melissa 
Kent; and 15 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, Merrill Davis and Elton Davis.

Carol Jane Wagner

Roberta Ann (Wurm) Johnson was born on July 25, 1940, in Norton, Kansas,
 and departed this life at the Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin, Kansas,
 at age 81.
 Roberta was the elder of two daughters born to Robert G. and Merna 
(Davis) Wurm. She and her younger sister Jackie were raised in Oberlin,
 where Roberta spent her entire life. 
 Roberta was baptized at the rural St. John Lutheran Church as an 
infant in 1940 and confirmed her baptismal vows as an adult in 1958. 
She was a life-long member of the church and raised her daughters in the
 faith.
 Roberta graduated from Oberlin City School in 1954, and from Decatur
 Community High School in 1958. She later attended Colby Community 
College.
 It was at DCHS that Roberta met her future husband, Lynn Johnson. 
They were confirmed together at St. John Lutheran Church and were 
married there on September 27, 1959. To this union were born two 
daughters, Sherri Sue and Shelli Lou.
 The family lived in Oberlin during the first ten years of their marriage, and Roberta worked at the Farmer's National Bank.
 In May of 1969, the young couple had the opportunity to purchase a 
farm in Harlan Township, eight miles east and eight miles north of 
Oberlin. Their happiest days were spent there where they raised their 
family, cattle, horses, hogs, chickens, and dogs. Roberta worked hard on
 the farm, producing a large garden and canning hundreds of quarts of 
vegetables and fruit. 
 Roberta also worked in Oberlin as her daughters grew older: as a 
paraprofessional at Oberlin Elementary School and DCHS. Later she was 
employed as a secretary at Sauvage Gas Company.
 In 1985, Roberta and Lynn sold their farm and returned to Oberlin to 
work in real estate. They formed Johnson Realty, Inc in 1990, and were 
successful real estate brokers for over thirty years.
 Roberta enjoyed entertaining her family and friends and loved to cook and bake. 
 Roberta was preceded in death by her parents; brothers-in-law, 
Lowell Johnson, Lyle Johnson, Vidal Capps, and Neil Votapka and 
sisters-in-law, Georgia Johnson and Alice Capps.
 She is survived by her husband Lynn; daughters Sherri Ramsey and 
Shelli Fortin and their husbands Terry Ramsey and Jay Fortin; 
grandchildren: Josh (Lisa) Fortin, Jacob (Mika) Fortin, Bryson (Megan) 
Ramsey, Bryanna Ramsey; great-grandchildren: Brody, Aubree, and Lane 
Fortin, Kasen Fortin, and Olivia, Jovi, and Demi Ramsey; sister, Jackie

Roberta Ann Johnson

John A. Klema, 96, passed away August 13, 2021, at Kenwood Plaza, St.
 John. He was born September 25, 1924, at Kanopolis, to John A. Klema, 
Sr. and Agnes (Stehno) Klema. He married Edna Janet Macek on July 26, 
1949, in Wilson. She died February 10, 2020.

Coming to Great Bend from Ellsworth in 1959, John was a grocer and 
meat cutter. &nbsp;He served in the United States Army during WWII as a 
surgical tech. After the Army he ran IGA grocery stores in Longford, 
Blackwolf and Ellsworth. He later worked for Marlette Homes, Rice 
Engineering, Elkan Manufacturing and Fuller Brush. After his retirement,
 he drove for Marmie Motors. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish 
at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #892, 
American Legion Post #180, V.F.W. Post #3111, and a Boy Scout leader. 
John enjoyed gardening, fishing, and tinkering. John was able to fix 
almost anything.

Survivors include, two daughters, Judy Ochs and husband Frank, and 
Carol Wiesner and husband Kevin, all of Great Bend; a daughter in law, 
Verna Klema of Hoisington; a sister, Shirley Krug of S.C.; five 
grandchildren, Brandon Ochs (Melissa), Brett Ochs (Cindy), Blake Ochs 
(Shelby), Shelby Wiesner and Becky Milsap; and twelve great 
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edna 
Klema; a son, Rick Klema; four brothers, Victor Klema, Rudy Klema, 
Richard Klema and Arthur Klema; and two sisters, Mildred Katzenmeier and
 Adeline Bartunek.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday, August 
20, 2021 at Bryant Funeral Home, with Vigil and Knights of Columbus 
rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m.,
 Saturday, August 21, 2021, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Father 
Prakash Kola, MSFS presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend 
Cemetery with military honors conducted by U.S. Army Honor Guard and

surgical tech. After the Army he ran IGA grocery stores in Longford, 
Blackwolf and Ellsworth. He later worked for Marlette Homes, Rice 
Engineering, Elkan Manufacturing and Fuller Brush. After his retirement,
 he drove for Marmie Motors. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish 
at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #892, 
American Legion Post #180, V.F.W. Post #3111, and a Boy Scout leader. 
John enjoyed gardening, fishing, and tinkering. John was able to fix 
almost anything.Survivors include, two daughters, Judy Ochs and husband Frank, and 
Carol Wiesner and husband Kevin, all of Great Bend; a daughter in law, 
Verna Klema of Hoisington; a sister, Shirley Krug of S.C.; five 
grandchildren, Brandon Ochs (Melissa), Brett Ochs (Cindy), Blake Ochs 
(Shelby), Shelby Wiesner and Becky Milsap; and twelve great 
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edna 
Klema; a son, Rick Klema; four brothers, Victor Klema, Rudy Klema, 
Richard Klema and Arthur Klema; and two sisters, Mildred Katzenmeier and
 Adeline Bartunek.Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday, August 
20, 2021 at Bryant Funeral Home, with Vigil and Knights of Columbus 
rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m.,
 Saturday, August 21, 2021, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Father 
Prakash Kola, MSFS presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend 
Cemetery with military honors conducted by U.S. Army Honor Guard and 
American Legion Riders Post 180. Memorials have been designated to 
Prince of Peace Parish or Kindred Hospice, in care of Bryant Funeral

Joseph W. “Joe” Pfeifer, 87, Hays, died Friday, August 13, 2021, at Via Christi Village.

He was born December 3, 1933, in 
Liebenthal, the son of Alexander and Mary (Doerfler) Pfeifer.&nbsp; He 
attended Liebenthal Grade School and graduated from Schoenchen High 
School in 1953.&nbsp; In 1955, he was drafted to play baseball for the 
Philadelphia Athletics.&nbsp; He attended spring training before being 
drafted into the U.S. Army and serving from 1956 until 1962.&nbsp; While 
stationed in Germany, he played baseball and pitched for the Crusaders.&nbsp;
 On May 23, 1955, he was united in marriage to Helen M. Fisher at Our 
Lady Help of Christians Church in Antonino, and they celebrated 66 years
 of marriage.&nbsp; He was an electrical maintenance foreman for Central 
Kansas Power/Midwest Energy for 40 years, retiring in 1994.&nbsp; His 
memberships included Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the VFW 
Post #9076, and Joe and Helen coordinated and helped serve church 
funeral dinners at Immaculate Heart of Mary for many years.&nbsp; Joe was an 
avid baseball fan, pitching for the Ban Johnson League in Hays, 
attending Hays Larks games, and attending home and away Hays High 
School, TMP-Marian High School and Fort Hays State University games.&nbsp; He
 loved watching and traveling to his grandchildren’s games and enjoyed 
watching the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs.

Survivors include his wife Helen of 
Hays, two sons: Terry Pfeifer and wife Donnetta of Hays and Troy Pfeifer
 and wife Dee of Green River, Wyoming, a daughter: Jolene Schaeffer of 
Hays, six grandchildren: Joel Pfeifer and wife Ashley of Olathe, Jordan 
Schaeffer and wife Sarah of Hays, Jason Pfeifer and wife Renee of Hays, 
Jill Mall and husband Tucker of Hays, Danisha Olson and husband Jon of 
Casper, WY, and Michael Pfeifer of Green River, WY, 12 
great-grandchildren: Jameson and Bryant Pfeifer, Noah, Tyler, and Maci 
Schaeffer, Rylan and Jackson Pfeifer, Damien Pfeifer, Harper Olson, 
Sperry, Tracer, and Kimber Mall, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his 
parents, two brothers: Celly and Jerry Pfeifer, five sisters: Florence 
Matel, Caroline Steckline, Armella Schmidt, Marie Schwartz, and Eleanora
 Schmidt, a son-in-law: Robert Schaeffer, and a grandson: Jeremy Deitz.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 
10:00 am on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Immaculate Heart of Mary 
Catholic Church, with Fr. Nick Parker officiating.&nbsp; Burial with military
 honors by the Hays VFW Honor Guard will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.&nbsp;
 Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 on Tuesday and from 9:00 am 
until 9:45 on Wednesday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.&nbsp; A 
vigil service and rosary will be at 6:00 pm on Tuesday at the funeral 
home.&nbsp;
