Kevin Martin, 65, died October 1, 2021, at Clara Barton Hospital, 
Hoisington, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born August 1, 1956, in Hoisington, the son 
of Harry “H.O.” and Esther (Howell) Martin.&nbsp;

On April 2, 1981, he married Laura E. Jones in Great Bend. She survives.

A lifetime Hoisington resident, Kevin worked in the oil field for 
Duke Drilling.&nbsp; He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and 
fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Laura Martin; two sons, Neal 
Martin of Seattle, Washington and Clinton Martin of Hoisington; six 
siblings, Jeanie Donovan and husband LeRoy of Hoisington, Mike Martin 
and wife Nancy of Pratt, Doug Martin and wife Jan of Larned, Debbie 
Martin of Manhattan, Gary Martin and Cindy Martin both of Great Bend; 
two grandchildren, Logan and Bailee Martin; and a beloved dog, Sophie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Martha Knight and Becky Booth.

Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at the 
Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Don Fisher presiding.&nbsp; 
Friends may sign the book 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and until service on 
Tuesday.&nbsp; There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place.

Rolland B. Haselhorst, 85, passed away at Parker Adventist Hospital, Parker, Colorado, on September 24, 2021. He was born August 18, 1936, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Joseph and Philomena “Minnie” Rajewski Haselhorst. 

Rolland graduated from SJMA in 1954 in Hays, Kansas. On September 10, 1957, he was united in Marriage to Betty Honas at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis, Kanas. They recently celebrated 64 glorious years of Marriage together.&nbsp;

Rolland worked in the oilfields in the late 50’s. He spent time in Oklahoma on various bridges and locks/dams in Arkansas. In 1968, Rolland moved his family to Colorado working on high rises and in hospitality. The majority of his 52 years in commercial construction was building health care facilities. After retiring at the age of 77, he took up a hobby of golfing. He spent numerous hours on the Golf Course practicing or playing nine holes by himself or with anyone who was up to the game.&nbsp;

His family always came first at all times. He is survived by his wife, Betty of Parker, Colorado, sons, Dr. Joseph Haselhorst and James Haselhorst of Naperville, Illinois and Jeffrey (Lisa) Haselhorst of Parker, Colorado. He leaves behind ten grandchildren, Dr. Christine Haselhorst of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, Leah Haselhorst, Lauren Haselhorst, Sarah Haselhorst all of Chicago, Illinois, Mike (Joslyn) Haselhorst, Mark (Lucy) Haselhorst, Andy (Haily) Haselhorst and Jake Haselhorst of Parker, Colorado, alongside Chris (Hannah) Haselhorst of Marion, Indiana. Left to cherish his memory is also five great grandchildren, Eleanor, Ephraim, Nolan, Claire and Sammy beside his one brother, Orville Haselhorst of Hays, Kansas, sister-in-law Rosalina Haselhorst of Fredricksburg, Virginia and brother-in-law Marvin Honas of Hays, Kansas. Many nieces, nephews and friends will also hold the memories of Rolland close.&nbsp;

Dora Imogene (Chain) Purvis, 68, of Russell, Kansas, passed away 
Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell.

Dora was born September 11, 1953 in Hominy, Oklahoma.&nbsp; She was the 
daughter of Fredrick Henry and Alberta Jula May (Byrom) Chain. She grew
 up and attended schools in Cleveland, Oklahoma. She graduated from 
Cleveland High School.

Dora was a lady that enjoyed the fun side of life. She had a great 
since of humor. She would sing and dance to music and was always ready 
to play cards with family and friends.

Dora’s surviving family include her daughter, Donya McCobb (Scott) of
 Russell, Kansas; sister-in-law, Gin Chain of Tulsa, Oklahoma; nephew, 
Michael Cockrell of Tulsa, Oklahoma; six grandchildren and four great 
grandchildren.

Dora was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and brother,&nbsp; Eugene Chain. 

A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, 
October 7, 2021 at Blackburn Cemetery in Blackburn, Oklahoma.&nbsp;

Del Rajewski, age 87, died at Lutheran Hospital in Wheat Ridge on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.

He was born October 19, 1933, in Victoria, Kansas, to Leo and Anna (Huser) Rajewski; the youngest of five children. He graduated high school and attended business school in Salina Kansas. He began his career with Continental Airline before he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged and returned to Continental making this a life-long career of 50 years. Del retired to Arvada CO with his loving wife of 27 years, Donna (Sills) Rajewski

Del was an active member of the Spirit of Christ Catholic Community where he was known for his kindness and generosity. He worked tirelessly with the Right to Life program.&nbsp; &nbsp; He also enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends, fishing and enjoying his favorite teams The Broncos, CU Buffs and Rockies.

Survivors include his wife Donna. His daughters: Stephanie Heard (David), Kristie Lemmons (Chuck), Laure Rajewski-Ellis, and Wendy Nitcher (John). Stepchildren: Chris Sills (Jona), David Sills, Scott Sills (Janice), and Michelle Sills; Eleven grandchildren: Cherytie (Kevin), Samantha (Troy), Zachary, Harlee, Taylor, Bradley, Emily, Kaylee, Tracy (Craig), Rachel and CJ. Nine great-grandchildren: Christian, Trey, Sadie, Maxx, Olivia, Noah, Bradley, Kylie and Katelyn; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Anna, siblings, Marceline, Juliana, Howard and Kathleen and grandson CJ.

Queena Mae Mumma died on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at Aldersgate 
Village in Topeka. She died peacefully at home with loved ones at the 
age of 101 years old. Queena was a beautiful human being, generous with 
her time and loved by all. 

She was born on November 5, 1919, in Lane 
County the daughter of Elmer &amp; Mayple (Wallace) Wolfe. She married 
Carl M. Mumma on May 6, 1939, in Dighton. He died on July 4, 2005. 
Queena went to East Lake School in Lane County and graduated from 
Dighton High School. She and her husband farmed in Lane County for many 
years. She was a member of United Methodist Church of Dighton. She 
enjoyed working in her yard and garden, fishing, sewing, crocheting, 
reading, volunteering, playing bridge and spending winters in Del Rio, 
Texas. In 2006, she moved to Aldersgate Village in Topeka to be closer 
to her family. 
She is survived by her two daughters Judith Ann (Mumma) Gugler of Kansas
 City, Missouri and Carla Mumma of Lawrence, six grandchildren, seven 
great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 
her parents, husband, son, brother and a grandson. 
Funeral Service will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, October 3 at United Methodist
 Church in Dighton with Rev Darrin Hammond. Burial will be in Dighton 
Memorial Cemetery.

Queena Mae Mumma

Gail Diane Brooks was born September 27, 1945, in Norton, KS to Albert 
and Opal (Carpenter) Georgeson. She passed away September 28, 2021, at 
the Andbe Home in Norton, KS. 
 Gail grew up in Lenora and as a young girl with three brothers, she 
was a bit of a tomboy spending much of her time outdoors with her horse.
 She was a 1963 graduate of Lenora High School, her classmates recalling
 her athleticism and speed as well as her command on horseback atop her 
horse, Queen. Immediately following her completion of high school, she 
was employed by the Rural Telephone company and worked there until 
around 1966. Gail married Bill Brooks on April 18, 1965 in Lenora and 
they lived in Johnson, Kansas, for about six years before moving to 
Clayton in 1972.

After her return to the area, Gail worked for The Bank 
at the Jennings branch for almost 15 years. She was also very active in 
the Clayton United Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday School Teacher,
 Treasurer, and a member of the choir. She was a gifted musician both 
harmonizing with her voice and on the guitar which she, along with four 
ladies from Clayton, taught themselves to play. Gail was also an active 
supporter of the community both as an Eastern Star member and most 
notably as a community leader of the Prairie Dog 4-H Club. In addition 
to being a farmer’s wife and mother of three, Gail remained athletic 
through the years by coaching softball, playing in a women’s softball 
league, and participating in a weekly women’s bowling league in Norton. 

In later years, she was blessed with grandkids who became her favorite 
pastime. She engaged with their activity of choice be it cooking, 
gardening, or feeding and playing with the animals. She will be lovingly
 remembered by all for her infectious smile, easy laugh, willingness to 
help, and overall effervescent personality.
 Gail was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bill (Irene) 
Georgeson and Jack Georgeson and sister-in-law, Deanna Georgeson. She is
 survived by her husband, Bill of Norton; son, Steve (Kelly) Brooks of 
Norton; daughter, Sammye (Todd) Strickler of Colony, KS; son, Bart 
(Cheri) Brooks of Clayton; mother-in-law, Merrice Brooks of Norton; 
brother, Max Georgeson of Norton; sister-in-law, Barbara (Don) Kelly of 
Lawrence, KS; grandchildren: Erin, Ashlyn, Elijah, Bristol, Brytton 
(Jordan), Colton, Camryn, Justin, Addison, Hallie, and Braylyn and great
 grandchild, Brooks Morton. 
 Memorial services will be held at 2:30 pm Saturday, October 2, 2021,&nbsp; at the United Methodist Church in Clayton. Inurnment will follow at the

 Gail was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bill (Irene) 
Georgeson and Jack Georgeson and sister-in-law, Deanna Georgeson. She is
 survived by her husband, Bill of Norton; son, Steve (Kelly) Brooks of 
Norton; daughter, Sammye (Todd) Strickler of Colony, KS; son, Bart 
(Cheri) Brooks of Clayton; mother-in-law, Merrice Brooks of Norton; 
brother, Max Georgeson of Norton; sister-in-law, Barbara (Don) Kelly of 
Lawrence, KS; grandchildren: Erin, Ashlyn, Elijah, Bristol, Brytton 
(Jordan), Colton, Camryn, Justin, Addison, Hallie, and Braylyn and great
 grandchild, Brooks Morton. 
 Memorial services will be held at 2:30 pm Saturday, October 2, 2021,&nbsp; at the United Methodist Church in Clayton. Inurnment will follow at the 
Clayton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm Friday, October 1,

Marilyn Cooper, longtime resident of Goodland, passed away on September 13, 2021, two months prior to her 91st birthday.

Marilyn Zace Brown was born on November 19, 1930, in Harrisburg PA to 
Vollie and Eleanore Brown, originally from Albuquerque, NM. During the 
Great Depression, when Marilyn was two years old, they moved back to 
Albuquerque where Vollie worked for his father building houses and later
 selling life insurance to workmen building Elvado Dam, therefore 
changing Vollie’s profession from electrical engineer to insurance. 
Marilyn was fortunate to be able to talk at length with her grandparents
 to learn our paternal family history through photographs, a family 
Bible and stories told to her by both grandparents.

At the age of 13, Marilyn received a present – a baby sister! Also at
 age 13 Marilyn was an accomplished vocalist and artist bound for a 
future of voice and art studies. But, one dream turned into another when
 she married her Fort Collins high school sweetheart, Ronald Blair 
Brouillette in 1948. When Vollie bought an insurance agency in Goodland 
in 1948, both families moved from Colorado to Kansas. Marilyn and Ron 
had four children— Garey, Brian (Charlie), Lynn and Paula – all of whom 
were born in Goodland. After relocating for some years to Colorado 
Springs and Thornton, CO, Ron received and accepted a job offer from 
Caldwell’s and the Brouillettes moved back to Goodland.

In 1969, Marilyn remarried to Raymond Cooper. In the mid-60s, prior 
to her marriage to Ray, Marilyn and her sister, Ginger, lived together 
and worked in Los Angeles. After their marriage, Marilyn and Ray resided
 in California until they moved back to Sherman County where Ray 
returned to farming. The couple lived in the country until health issues
 brought them to town.

Marilyn found her niche working for the Goodland Chamber of Commerce 
where she enjoyed meeting and working with people and businesses in 
Goodland and surrounding areas. Unfortunately Ray developed several 
serious health issues which required several major surgeries, the last 
of which took his life. After Ray’s death and after she retired from the
 Chamber office, she put her artistic creativity to work via her Wind 
Woman Originals home- based business creating Native American-inspired 
works of art. She was also a master historian of the Kidder Massacre and
 conducted tours of the massacre site. In the late 1990s she decided to 
travel to her points of interest including South Dakota and Mount 
Rushmore, then on to Wyoming to the Custer’s Last Stand battleground. 
After that she visited all of the forts in Kansas. Along the way she 
gathered places of business that displayed and sold her Wind Woman 
Originals art.

She spent hours in person and in long distance phone calls recounting
 to her sister the stories of their parents and grandparents of which 
her sister had no knowledge and was, therefore, blessed with the 
wonderful opportunity to learn.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Cooper, and 
three of her children: Charlie, Lynn, and Paula, and a granddaughter 
Sara Brouillette. She is survived by her son Garey (Reta) Brouillette of
 Goodland, her sister Ginger (Michael) Greenspun of Sherman Oaks CA, 
grandchildren Shad Brouillette of Kansas City, Carey (Scott) Hipp of 
Ellsworth KS, Aubre’ (Ted) Tompkins of Denver CO, Justin (Megan) Dryden 
of Omaha, NE, and Christopher (Pamela) Carleton of Port Roberts, WA; and
 eight great grandchildren: Elizabeth, Benjamin and Andrew Hipp, Devon 
and Arwen Tompkins, Ethan Dowd, Blake Edwards and Connor Dryden.

Big sisters are the best. They are always on your side regardless of 
what you’ve done. She is worth all my tears. Fly high with angels of 
kindred souls, Pete.

Marilyn Cooper

Lucille (Bryant) Kurtz, 96, passed away on September 29, 2021, at 
Diversicare of Larned. She was born on May 27, 1925, at Ellinwood to 
Wilbur and Hilda (Christiansen) Bryant. She grew up on the family farm 
south of Ellinwood and graduated from Ellinwood High School. She married
 Henry Kurtz Jr. on August 5, 1950, in Chicago, Ill. He died March 6, 
2013.

Henry, Lucille and the kids resided in upper Michigan before moving 
back to Kansas in 1960. She was a bookkeeper in her early years for 
Sears and Roebuck, as well as various banks. She then was a homemaker. 
Lucille enjoyed garage sales but especially loved spending time with her
 family.

Survivors include, two sons, Steven Kurtz of Pawnee Rock and Roger 
Kurtz and wife Kala of Larned; two daughters, Rita Kurtz of Larned and 
Marla Stella Kurtz of Dodge City; seven grandchildren, Nathan Barker, 
Jason Kurtz, Brandon Kurtz and wife Shelby, Derrick Kurtz and wife 
Ashley, Vincent Stella and wife Crysta, Natalie Hayes and husband Jesse,
 and Nichole Pearce and husband Jeremy; and fifteen great grandchildren.
 She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Henry Kurtz, Jr.;
 two sisters, Ruby Wilson and Barbara Adams; and a brother, Leo Bryant.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October
 5, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 
5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., 
Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery in 
Ellinwood, with Father Mark Cowell presiding.

Glenn H. Weathers, 91, of Russell, Kansas, died on Sunday, September 5, 2021, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Glenn was born on August 13, 1930, Skiatook, Oklahoma, the son of Carl Glen and Marjorie (Dutton) Weathers.&nbsp; He grew up in the Skiatook area and graduated from Skiatook High School.&nbsp; After high school he served his country by joining the United States Army.&nbsp; He was united in marriage to Wilma Lee Boxberger on June 23, 1961, in Liberal, Kansas.&nbsp; He worked in the oil field industry as a mechanic and truck driver for Revell’s Oil Field Service.&nbsp; He also worked as a truck driver for Richard Polcyn farms.&nbsp; He enjoyed working on drag race cars for R.C. Williams.

Surviving family include is daughter Cheri L. Dunn of Peckham, Oklahoma; son Randy G. Weathers of Newkirk, Oklahoma and stepdaughter Susie young and husband Steven of Pratt, Kansas; brothers Lyle Weathers and wife Sandy of Skiatook, Oklahoma and sister Mary Kuntzsch and husband Bill of Russell, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Wilma; 2 sisters Betty Smith and Jackie Adams; brother Carl Weathers.

A graveside service will be held at 4 P.M. on Friday, October 8, 2021, at the Bunker Hill Cemetery in Bunker Hill, Kansas.&nbsp; Cremation has been selected by the family.&nbsp; Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas is in charge of the funeral service arrangements

Robert Eugene Long, age 53, passed away September 26, 2021, as a result of a vehicle accident. 
He was born on June 20, 1968, in Oakley, KS. to the late Richard and 
Linda (Wright) Long. He is survived by his two daughters Haley Long, of 
Sioux Falls, SD, and Lola Hipp, of Goodland, KS, and a sibling Dana 
Charles and family, of Oakley, as well as various other extended 
families. He is preceded in death by an infant son, Caleb Long and his 
parents. 
Robert had a love for fishing that couldn’t be matched and spent much of
 his time with his family of friends. He always had a grin on his face 
and a tale to tell. He was a true friend to many and was the “go to” 
expert on local fishing spots. When not at work at Mittens truck stop, 
where he had worked since high school, you could find him out on a boat 
trying to hook a big one. Robert lived life to the fullest and besides 
fishing loved to drive demo cars, hunt, and have a cold one with his 
friends. 
A come and go “Celebration of Life” will be held at Baalmann Mortuary, 
Oakley, on Saturday, October 2, 2021, from 10 a.m. -12 p.m. Family and 
friends may then go to the Buffalo Bill Cultural Center, in Oakley from 
12:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. for a meal and sharing memories.

Robert Eugene Long

Michael Alan “Mike” Schmidt, 71, Manhattan, died Saturday, September 25, 2021, at his home.

He was born September 24, 1950, in Hays, the son of Alfred Lee and Mary Kay (House) Schmidt.&nbsp; He was a 1969 graduate of St. Joseph’s Military Academy and earned an Associate’s Degree in Rehabilitation for the Blind and Visually Impaired from the Hadley School for the Blind.&nbsp; On June 20, 1970 he was united in marriage to Sally Jean Bethe in Hays, and they celebrated 24 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on February 18, 1995.&nbsp; Mike was a musician in several bands, and his bands Soul Express, Tempest, Beast, and Spider and the Crabs earned the distinguished honor of induction into the Kansas Music Hall of Fame.&nbsp; He also worked as a rehabilitation teacher for the blind and visually impaired and a coach courier for Kansas State University Athletics, retiring in 2021.&nbsp; He was a member of the Northwest Kansas Association for the Visually Impaired and enjoyed refereeing and umpiring sports at all levels. &nbsp;

Survivors include two sons: Tyler Schmidt and fiancé Amanda Tucker of Ellinwood and Nick Schmidt of Hays, a daughter: Miki Boese of Great Bend, his girlfriend: Carol Wirthman of Lawrence, four brothers: Larry Schmidt and wife Melea of Hays, Dan Schmidt and wife Connie of Hays, Randy Schmidt of Yorktown, VA, and John Schmidt and wife Dana of Hays, one sister: Karla Ruder and husband John of Plainville, four grandchildren: Seth McBride and wife Angie, Zachary McBride, Bailey McBride, and Braxton Tucker, all of Great Bend, three great granddaughters: Beatrice, Harper, and Hazel McBride of Great Bend, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Sally, brother: Joe Schmidt, granddaughter: Sarah McBride, and niece: Holly Schmidt.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Friday, October 1, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Fr. Richard Daise officiating.&nbsp; Private family inurnment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.&nbsp; The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 on Thursday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and from 9:00 am until service time on Friday at the church.&nbsp; A vigil service and rosary will be at 6:30 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.&nbsp;

Earl Klaus, age 67, died on September 23, 2021 in rural Ness City, 
Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on February 20, 1954 in Hays, Kansas the son of 
Andrew and Charlene (Weigel) Klaus.

Memorial services is planned for Saturday, October 2, 2021, 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church, Ness City.

Rosary will be held at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, on Friday, October 1, 2021, 6:00 p.m.

Martha Jean Wolf, 87, passed away September 28, 2021, at Great Bend 
Health &amp; Rehab. She was born September 17, 1934, at Pratt to Ershel 
&amp; Maxine (Null) Walters. She married Billy Wolf on February 3, 1951,
 at Raton, New Mexico. He died June 16, 2000.

A Great Bend resident since 1960, Martha was a secretary at Centel 
for 33 years. She was of Methodist faith and a past Eagles member. 
Martha loved to play darts and especially spend time with her family.

Survivors include, her daughter, Yvonne Watkins (Steve Oetken) of 
Great Bend; a granddaughter, Angela Caldwell (Mike); three great 
grandchildren, Alyssa Wilson (Marty), Brandon Watkins and Angel Watkins;
 and six great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her 
parents; her husband, Billy Wolf; longtime companion, Don McEachern; 
twin sister, Beverly Duraso; and a great great granddaughter, Bailey 
Goodheart.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, October 3, 
2021 at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m.,
 Monday, October 4, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home with Reverend Dick Ogle
 presiding. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend.

Jason T. Carman, age 49, of Sharon Springs, KS passed 
away Sept. 28, 2021, surrounded by his family after a brave three-year 
battle with cancer. 
Jason was born on Jan. 28, 1972, in Jefferson City, MO, the son of Gary 
and Sandra (Crigler) Carman. Growing up in Onaga, KS graduating from 
Onaga High School in 1991. He continued his education at Pratt Community
 College graduating from the Electrical Power Technology program. He was
 employed by Union Pacific Railroad as a Signal Maintainer for over 28 
years and was a union member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalman. 
On July 29, 2000, he married Cassie (Herbers) Carman in Manhattan, KS at 
St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church. To this union three daughters were 
born, Jessie, Mary and Kit. He was baptized and confirmed into the 
Catholic Church in Goodland, KS. 
Jason enjoyed all things outdoors; hunting, fishing, camping and golfing
 were among his favorites. He shared these passions with his daughters 
and many friends. 
Jason is survived by his wife Cassie; daughters Jessie Ann, Mary Sophia 
and Kit C.J; his parents, Gary and Sandra Carman; brothers, Bradley 
Carman (Dana), Silver Lake KS and Robert Carman (Abbie Stierly), Basehor
 KS; mother and father in-law, Don and Mona Herbers, Leoti KS; brother

Jolene Marie Foley passed away peacefully on September 27, 2021, while
 at Kenwood Nursing Home at 66 years, 9 months and 30 days of age. She 
was born to Theophile Marcotte Jr. (Junior) and Ermalina Rudell on 
November 28, 1954, in Oakley, Kansas. After that marriage dissolved, 
Nadene took over the role of mother when she married Junior in 1957.

After Jolene graduated from Oakley High School in 1973, she moved to 
Salina, Kansas, where she met and married William “Bill” Foley on May 
22, 1976. During their 45-year marriage, they had three children.

Jolene worked a variety of jobs in Salina, often more than one at a 
time until her health declined. She was very involved in Special 
Olympics of Salina and served as treasurer for many years. Jolene was 
also known as the best hostess to many WWE Wrestling Paid Per View 
parties for James and friends.

The title she most treasured was MOM and Grandma Jo. Jolene was happy
 being a mother but when she became a grandmother, she was over the moon
 happy. She lit up whenever she spoke of Aaron, Aiden, Ansen and 
Chevelle Everett.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Junior and Nadene Marcotte;
 sisters, Betty Marcotte Gaydusek and Linda Marcotte Greenlee; stillborn
 brother, Richard Neil; and brother, Randy Huffman.

Jolene is survived by her husband, Bill; children, Rachel Everett 
(Ace), Hutchinson, KS, and James and Jessica Foley, of the home; 
grandchildren, Ansen, Aiden, Aaron and Chevelle Everett; sister, Karen 
Marcotte Foster (Curtis), LaVista, NE; brother, Bill Huffman, Oakley; 
and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Visitation will be 1-5 p.m., Sunday, October 3, 2021, at Ryan 
Mortuary, Salina, with family present from 3-5. The funeral service will

On the anniversary of our sweet sister Jan Sullivan-Callarman's death we would like to acknowledge her passing. She died three years ago September 16th, 2018, of breast cancer complications. 
Her family, who loved her very much, were with her in their home in Beaumont, Texas, where she had lived the past 35
years.

She was an instructor in the Biology Department at Lamar University in Beaumont where she had obtained her master's
degree in Biology. 
She lived on the Neches River where she enjoyed fishing and playing with her grandchildren. 
Her sisters were also lucky enough to enjoy yearly trips with her to the Pacific Northwest and Mexico.

She leaves behind her husband David Callarman, her daughter Crystale, her son Dave, her 2 sisters Peggy and Lizz (Kay),
4 grandchildren and 1 niece and nephew, not to mention her close friends. 
She was preceded in death by her parents Ward and Treva Sullivan of Hays and brother Ward William "Bill" Sullivan III of
Hays.

Dorothy Jane Nielsen, 80, of Russell, Kansas, died on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, Kansas. &nbsp;

Dorothy was born on February 18, 1941, in Russell, Kansas, the daughter of Herman and Ella (Wasemiller) Steinert.&nbsp; She grew up in Russell, Kansas and graduated from Russell High School and lived in Russell most all her life.&nbsp; She was united in marriage (1958) to Gerald Nuss and from this union they had 2 children Debbie (Nuss) Overstake and Karl Henson, and 1 granddaughter Shalane (Overstake) Vavasseur.&nbsp; They later divorced and Dorothy married Rod Deines in October,1966, and from this union they were blessed with 2 children Bonny and Mike.&nbsp; Later Rod and Dorothy were divorced.&nbsp; Dorothy found love a 3rd time and was united in married to Bill Nielsen in June 1986.&nbsp; She worked as a homemaker for many years before working as a desk clerk for the Super 8 Motel in Russell, Kansas, and the Fairfield Inn in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; She was a former member of the Trinity United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir and Methodist Women’s Group.&nbsp; She enjoyed tulips and flowers and scrapbooking.&nbsp; Most of all she enjoyed spending quality time with her family and close friends.

Surviving family include her daughter Bonny Deines and spouse Tim Ball of Lawrence, Kansas; son Mike Deines and wife Wendy of Basehor, Kansas; daughter Debbie Overstake and spouse Perry; granddaughter Shalane Vavasseur and spouse Brad, and Karl Henson.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Bill Nielsen on March 31, 1992.

A gathering service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. on Monday, October 04 2021, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas. The family will be present at the mortuary from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. to greet guests.  Cremation has been selected by the family and a private burial will be held by the family.

Rebecca was a beloved wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt and 
friend. She was a Special Education Teacher at Havencroft Elementary and
 loved every kid who walked through her door like they were her own. 
Those who were lucky to have met Rebecca know how giving and 
compassionate she was. There was not a single person she wasn’t willing 
to help and embraced everyone with open arms.

Rebecca is the daughter of Marion and Rena (Hornung) Klerman. She 
married Galen Francis Brin on May 25, 1996 in Damar, KS.&nbsp; He survives of
 the home.

Other survivors include her daughter, Halle Brin of the home, two 
sisters, Riva (Joseph) Bishop, Silvia (Bruce) Massa, mother-in-law, 
Elaine Brin, many brothers-in-law, Martin (Marcella) Brin, Arlen (Linda)
 Brin, David (Kay) Brin, sisters-in-law, Sheri Webb and Mary (Paul) 
Meade; and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by 
her father, Marion Klerman, father-in-law, Levi Brin, and

raising awareness towards the disease and fundraising ever since her

Phillipsburg resident Earl Wolfe passed away Monday, September 27, 
2021, at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg at the age of 87.

He was born December 10, 1933, in Phillipsburg, KS the son of Hulsa and Edna (Woofter) Wolfe.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Sayan; daughter Kayla Kreller; and brothers Darrel, Dean, and Keath.

Survivors include his son Kurtis of Prairie View; step-sons Pete 
Rogers of Phillipsburg and Sonny Rogers of Raymore, MO; a step-daughter 
Cher Simpson of Raymore, MO; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great 
grandchildren.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:30 a.m. 
Friday, October 1, 2021 in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg with 
Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating.

Mr. Wolfe will lie in state from Noon until 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 
a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, 
Phillipsburg.&nbsp; The casket will remain closed.&nbsp; The family will receive 
friends Thursday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home 
for visitation.

2021, at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg at the age of 87.He was born December 10, 1933, in Phillipsburg, KS the son of Hulsa and Edna (Woofter) Wolfe.He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Sayan; daughter Kayla Kreller; and brothers Darrel, Dean, and Keath.Survivors include his son Kurtis of Prairie View; step-sons Pete 
Rogers of Phillipsburg and Sonny Rogers of Raymore, MO; a step-daughter 
Cher Simpson of Raymore, MO; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great 
grandchildren.A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:30 a.m. 
Friday, October 1, 2021 in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg with 
Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating.Mr. Wolfe will lie in state from Noon until 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 
a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, 
Phillipsburg.&nbsp; The casket will remain closed.&nbsp; The family will receive 
friends Thursday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home

Laynete Marie Mick, 78, of Osborne, KS passed away on Saturday, 
September 25, 2021 at the Osborne County Memorial Hospital. &nbsp;She was 
born on August 21, 1943 in Salina, KS, to Peter T. &amp; Opal M. (Hahn) 
Fritschen.

She graduated from high school and attended some college. &nbsp;She worked
 at the family business in Dorance, KS at&nbsp;the Telephone Office. &nbsp;

Laynete met &amp; married the love of her life, Francis Mick. &nbsp;They 
had 4 daughters in this union. &nbsp;Laynete became a farmwife.&nbsp; Francis 
tended to the crops &amp; she tended to the cattle. &nbsp;Laynete has been in
 the Osborne area since 1968 after she and Francis married and moved 
here.

She was preceded in death by her parents;&nbsp;her husband, Francis in 2010; 1 grandchild.

Laynete is survived by her daughters: Eileen Rolph of Delphos, KS; 
Marguarite Atchison of Kirwin, KS; Carolyn Nichols of Willow Lake, SD;

Virginia F. Depperschmidt, 73, died on Saturday September 25, 2021, at 
her home. She was born on November 9, 1947, at Larned the daughter of 
Jess C. &amp; Caterina (Amoruso) Miller. She married Leo L. 
Depperschmidt on November 15, 1969 at LaCrosse. 
Virginia grew up on the family farm in Ness County and graduated from 
Bazine High School. She had worked at several jobs before moving with 
her husband to Garden City in 1970 and was mainly a homemaker. She was 
of the Lutheran faith and was an avid reader. 
She is survived by her Husband- Leo L. Depperschmidt, 2 Daughters- 
Katrina L. Coast of Beeler and Lori A. Strasser of Garden City, 4 
Sisters- Marlene Winter of Burdett, Linda Denning of Hays, Julie Tejeda 
of Wichita and Edna Ayers of Peabody, 2 Grandchildren and several 
Great-Grandchildren. 
There will be no public services held. Memorials are suggested to

Virginia F. Depperschmidt

Leslie Allan “Les” Ward was born Aug. 7, 1951, in Norton to Frank and Velda (Fullerton) Ward. He passed away Sept. 27, 2021, at Whispering Pines at the age of 70.

Les grew up on the family farm east of Norcatur with his older sister, Wava. He attended school in Norcatur and graduated in 1969. In high school, he participated in football, basketball and was active in FFA. Les married Lynn McMurry on April 26, 1980, at the Norton Methodist Church. They lived in Les’s childhood home for six years until they moved to the current farmstead in 1986. The couple was blessed with two children, Kaley and Keith. Les and Lynn later moved to town in 2011 and Keith moved onto the farm.

Les dedicated his life to family and farming. His kids were his greatest joy. In 2015, Les and Lynn welcomed their granddaughter Josie into the world. Les found himself with quite the little helper around the farm as she got older.

Les grew up helping on the family farm and became a fourth-generation farmer. He was also a crop adjuster for Great American Insurance for 15 years. He was a Farm Bureau board member for six years and served as the president for two.

During his free time, he could always be found on the golf course and enjoyed the annual golf trips with his golf buddies. He was a proud supporter of Norton Bluejay athletics and attended as many games as possible.

Les was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Lynn of the home; daughter, Kaley Ward of Norton; son, Keith Ward of Norcatur; granddaughter, Josie; sister, Wava Reames of Norcatur; mother-in-law, Ruby Pflieger of Norton, father-in-law, Dean McMurry of Norton; brothers-in-law, Steve McMurry of Florida and Patrick McMurry of Colorado and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

The funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 2021, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Norcatur Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 7:oo p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with family present from 5 to 7 p.m.
