Richard John Schleicher passed away on September 16, 2021, in Echo, 
Oregon from a tragic car accident while traveling to a bull riding 
event. He was born on November 5, 1996, to Harold and Debra (Faber) 
Schleicher in Hays, KS. 
 Richard grew up the youngest of five children in Stockton, KS. At 
the young age of 4, Richard got his first taste of excitement he had for
 bull riding while attending his first rodeo with his parents. By age 6,
 he began competing at Little Britches and Junior High Rodeos. He 
graduated from Stockton High School with the Class of 2015 before moving
 to Nevada, MO to attend Missouri Welding Institute. With bull riding 
still in his blood, he got his PRCA card and competed in as many rodeos 
as he could. 
 An inspiration to many of his fellow bull riders and friends, he was
 known not only for his grit and love for the sport; but also his 
contagious laugh, constant smile and personality that lit up a room, his
 sense of humor and sincerity, his crazy dance moves, and beautiful 
singing voice. He was a young man chasing a dream, but as his chaps 
read, “Faith Over Fear”, he truly lived his dream. He also enjoyed 
fishing, hiking, golf, and snowboarding. He loved his family and 
friends, his rodeo community, and would do anything for anyone.
 Although our hearts are weighing heavy during this difficult time, 
for he was taken so suddenly, we can find comfort in knowing that 
Richard is at peace in Heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ. We all have so
 many memories, stories, and have had wonderful times with him. Those 
are the things that we will cherish forever. He will be remembered with 
love. As he would often say, “Can I get a hoo-yaa”?! 
 Richard is survived by his parents, Harold and Debra Schleicher of 
Stockton; grandmother, Shirley Faber of Clare, MI; brothers: Justin 
Schleicher of Houston, TX and Christopher Schleicher and wife Kayla of 
Buena Vista, CO; and sisters: Casey Lynn Polteraitis and husband Saulius
 of Detroit, MI and Molly McMullen and husband Carson of Grand Island, 
NE. 
 Richard joins in heaven his grandparents: Frank Faber and Richard and Irma Schleicher.
 A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at 10:30 AM at the Webster State Park Townsite/Swim Beach.

Robert A. "Bob" Redger passed away on August 26, 2021, at KU Med Center at the age of 74.&nbsp; He was born July 3, 1947, the son of Albert A. and Grace (Kumberg) Redger.&nbsp; He attended Ashland Kansas schools graduating in 1965.&nbsp; He attended Southwestern College Winfield before enlisting in the U.S. Army and serving in Vietnam from 1966-1968 obtaining the rank of SP5 (T). &nbsp; In 1970, he married Carol Jean Fuller and they adopted a daughter, Crystal. They later divorced. Robert worked in the oil fields as a noxious weed director and a feed store manager before becoming the manager of the Golden Belt Co-op in Ellis, in 1991, retired in 2016. Robert was involved in his community, serving on several boards.&nbsp; He was a member of the Ellis City Council, the Chrysler House, and the Chamber of Commerce.&nbsp; He was a Quartermaster for the local VFW Post and was the treasurer for the Ellis United Methodist Church. Robert was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughter Crystal, his special friend Niki Bartlett, sisters Louise Lagerman (Mel) of Salina, KS; Carol Jackson (Mike) of Vega, TX; Diana Redger of Ashland, KS; brother David Redger (Linda) of Ashland, KS; Niki’s daughters Jenny, Amy, Lesley, and Betsy; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Crystal Lyn Ragels, age 60, of Goodland passed away Thursday, September 16, 2021, at the Goodland Regional Medical Center.&nbsp;

Crystal was born October 24, 1960, in Canyon City, Colorado.&nbsp; She grew 
up on the family farm north of Edson and graduated from Brewster High 
School in 1978.&nbsp; Crystal attended Northwest Kansas Technical College 
Cosmetology and Medical Assistant.&nbsp; She helped with the Early Childhood 
Head Start Program, American Red Cross, Girl Scout Leader, served on the
 City of Goodland Cemetery Board.&nbsp; Crystal worked many jobs in customer 
service and sales she loved helping people.&nbsp; She enjoyed gardening, 
canning, her dogs, traveling and dearly loved spending time with her 
grandchildren, family, and friends.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her father, Harlan Mayer; and son, Jaron Ragels.&nbsp;

She is survived by her mother, Vera Mayer of Goodland; daughter, 
Alegra Kaylene Ragels of Cheyenne Wells, CO; sons, Andrew Kristopher 
(Nicole) and Quinten Tabor (Brenna) of Goodland, KS; four grandchildren,
 Nathan, Vance, Jaxson Ragels and Aubrie Reyna; and many more family 
members and friends.&nbsp;

Dorothy Jane Nielsen, 80, of Russell, Kansas, died on Tuesday, 
September 14, 2021, at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, 
Kansas.&nbsp;

Dorothy was born on February 18, 1941, in Russell, Kansas, the 
daughter of Herman and Ella (Wasemiller) Steinert.&nbsp; She grew up in 
Russell, Kansas and graduated from Russell High School and lived in 
Russell most all her life.&nbsp; She was united in marriage (1958) to Gerald 
Nuss and from this union they had 2 children Debbie (Nuss) Overstake and
 Karl Nuss, and 1 granddaughter Shalane (Overstake) Vavasseur.&nbsp; They 
later divorced and Dorothy married Rod Deines in October,1966, and from 
this union they were blessed with 2 children Bonny and Mike.&nbsp; Later Rod 
and Dorothy were divorced.&nbsp; Dorothy found love a 3rd time and
 was united in married to Bill Nielsen in June 1986.&nbsp; 

She worked as a 
homemaker for many years before working as a desk clerk for the Super 8 
Motel in Russell, Kansas, and the Fairfield Inn in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; She 
was a former member of the Trinity United Methodist Church where she was
 a member of the choir and Methodist Women’s Group.&nbsp; She enjoyed tulips 
and flowers and scrapbooking.&nbsp; Most of all she enjoyed spending quality 
time with her family and close friends.

Surviving family include her daughter Bonny Deines and spouse Tim 
Ball of Lawrence, Kansas; son Mike Deines and wife Wendy of Basehor, 
Kansas; daughter Debbie Overstake and spouse Perry; granddaughter 
ShalaneVavasseur and spouse Brad, and Karl Henson.&nbsp; She was preceded in 
death by her parents and husband Bill Nielsen on March 31, 1992.

A gathering service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held in 
October 2021.&nbsp; Cremation has been selected by the family.&nbsp;

Deb Schmeidler

Jen Ellen (Leiker) Nash, 69, died Saturday, September 18, 2021. Jen was 
born on June 19, 1952, in Hays, Kansas, to Walter and Irene (Schukman) 
Leiker. She graduated from Marian High School in 1970 and Fort Hays State
 University in 1973. Jen taught high school science in Lebanon, Kansas,&nbsp; and also at Marian High School in Hays, Kansas, before moving to 
Kennewick, Washington and marring Walter V. Nash. They later divorced 
and she returned to Kansas. 
 Her artistic talent was nurtured in Washington. Upon moving to 
Wichita, she worked in custom framing at Hobby Lobby and later as 
department head of crafts and fabric at Wal-Mart until she moved into 
the office. She stayed with Wal-Mart for 27 years and is still fondly 
remembered by many loyal customers and coworkers. 
 She was an accomplished quilter and has wonderful quilting friends 
called The Material Witnesses. They met regularly and supported her 
though her illness. Jen had made amazing gifts and keepsakes for many 
loved ones.
 Jen is survived by her mother, Irene Leiker of Wichita, KS; sister, 
Michelle Wessling Fisher of Aurora, CO; aunt, Wilma (Leiker) Unrein of 
Wichita, KS; goddaughter, Nicole Edwards of Kennewick, WA; niece, 
Mariana (Hector Morales) Sarur of Oklahoma City, OK; step-niece, 
Jennifer (Sam) (Fisher) Vanourey and their son, Ron Vanourey all of St. 
Joseph, MO; step-nephew Matt Fisher of Kansas City, MO; and many 
cousins.
 She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Leiker; 
grandparents, Nicholas Leiker, Katie (Unrein) Leiker-Richmeier and Fred
 Richmeier, and Jacob and Bertha (Kohn) Schukman.
 Jen requested no funeral service be held. A private burial will be held in Hays where she will be buried near her father.
 A gathering for family and friends to celebrate Jen’s life will be 
held at the home she shared with her mother in Wichita on Saturday, 
September 25th, from 3 - 5 p.m. Bring your own lawn chair.
 Jen was a true Sunflower State girl. She celebrated Kansas day by 
gifting friends and coworkers sunflower seed cookies or sunflower seed 
brittle that she and her mom made. She also has an extensive sunflower 
collection.
 As Jen left, she made one last gift by donating the gift of sight to two people who will never know her.

Susan Jane Rosenbach, 74, of Dannebrog, Nebraska, passed away September 
15, 2021 with her family by her side, at Grand Island Regional Medical 
Center after a short, hard-fought battle with cancer. Celebration 
of life service will be 10:30 AM Thursday, September 23rd at All Faiths 
Funeral Home in Grand Island. Daniel Naranjo will officiate.

 Susan was born on January 13, 1947, in Great Bend, Kansas, to LC (Bud) 
and Josephine (Seeger) Pryor. She grew up in Great Bend and was a proud 
graduate of the class of 1965. She continued her education and graduated
 from Fort Hays State University in 1972. She was united in 
marriage to Gary Rosenbach on January 6, 1973. Throughout their marriage
 they lived in several cities and states before moving to her favorite 
location, the farm near Dannebrog. This is where all of her 
passions truly thrived. She was able to share her love of animals, 
especially horses, with her daughters. She spent countless hours sitting
 through riding lessons, going to horse show, and just watching them 
ride. Susan always believed in giving back and served as the Chairperson
 for the Nebraska State 4-H Horse Exposition for many years. Susan 
loved gardening and could get any plant to thrive. She is well-known for
 her floral quality sunflowers and extraordinary garlic and shallots. 
She was even dubbed the “garlic queen.” Susan brought much of her 
produce into the kitchen where she could turn anything into a gourmet 
meal. There wasn’t anything she couldn’t make. She was an avid 
quilter and you could often find her at her machine working on a new 
pattern. She was extremely precise and never started a project without 
reading all the directions first. Some of her favorite quilts were the 
two she made with her grandson. For the last twenty years, she 
worked at Stuhr Museum teaching classes for the education department. 
She truly loved interacting with and teaching kids about what it was 
like to live in the 1890’s. She often said she was going to retire, only
 to say, “well maybe I’ll teach one more time.” Those left to 
cherish her memory are her husband Gary of Dannebrog; two daughters, 
Jamee (Jeff) Bockerman of Hastings and Allison Rosenbach of Grand 
Island; grandsons Brodyn, Hadyn and Hudsyn Bockerman; sister Jody Zink 
of Pratt, Kansas; and niece Hayley Zink of Turon, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her in-laws.

Marvin M. Herrman, 89, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Thursday, 
September 16, 2021, at Rush County Memorial Hospital Intermediate Swing 
Bed, La Crosse, Kansas.

Marvin was born July 19, 1932, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son of 
Nicholas J. and Veronica (Legleiter) Herrman.&nbsp; He was a lifelong 
resident of Rush County, Kansas.&nbsp; He was a 1950 graduate of La Crosse 
High School, La Crosse, Kansas.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas, 
where he was formerly an usher and on the parish council.&nbsp; He was a 
member of Knights of Columbus Council 2970, La Crosse, Kansas, where he 
was a former District Deputy.&nbsp; He was a 4th degree member of 
the Pope Paul VI Assembly, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, both of 
La Crosse, Kansas, and a member of the Lions Club, Rush Center, Kansas.

Throughout his life, Marvin farmed, and owned Modern Shoe Repair 
Service, La Crosse, Kansas.&nbsp; With his wife, Florence, he owned and 
operated the Corner Grill, which later became Family Castle, La Crosse, 
Kansas.&nbsp; They owned and operated 4 Corners Liquor Store, Rush Center, 
Kansas, and La Crosse Liquor, La Crosse, Kansas, for a combination of 
approximately 20 years.&nbsp; Marvin also worked for Flame Engineering, La 
Crosse, Kansas, for many years.

Marvin enjoyed visiting family and his grandchildren, playing cards, 
fishing, making rosaries, and especially enjoyed watching the Kansas 
City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals games.

On May 18, 1954, he married Florence Oborny at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Timken, Kansas.&nbsp;

Survivors include:&nbsp; his wife, Florence Herrman, La Crosse, Kansas; 
one son, Michael Herrman, Topeka, Kansas; one daughter in law, Melodie&nbsp; 
Herrman Pruett, Topeka, Kansas;&nbsp; five grandchildren; eight great 
grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and one sister in law, 
Twila Herrman, La Crosse, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Chris, 
Elmer, Alvin, Albert, Alex, Kenneth, and Raymond; and six sisters, Emma 
Moeder, Agnes Herrman, Bertha Sauber, Edith Bollig, Elenora Moeder, and 
Sister Louise Herrman.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 22, 2021, from 4:00 P.M. to 
8:00 P.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with the 
family receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.&nbsp; A vigil service

Marjorie was born June 21, 1936, in Rush Center, Kansas, the daughter
 of Richard “Dick” and Elva (Cooley) Cunningham.&nbsp; She was a lifelong 
resident of Rush County, Kansas.&nbsp; A 1954 graduate of La Crosse High 
School, La Crosse, Kansas, she was a homemaker.

She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Rush Center, Kansas.

On December 19, 1954, she married M. Lee Ochs at the Lutheran Church, Otis, Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death May 19, 2016.

Survivors include:&nbsp; one son, Mark Ochs (Balinda), Great Bend, Kansas;
 one daughter, Debra Lewis (Dean), Salina, Kansas; one sister, Gloria 
Renz, Albert, Kansas, one sister-in-law Lois Cunningham Thompson, and 
numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, 
Rhonda Gass; a son in law, Ronald Gass; an infant brother, Lowell 
Cunningham; one brother Richard Cunningham; one sister, Audrey Gough; 
and two brothers in law, Arlyn Renz; and Kenneth Gough.

Karen Maxine (Marlett Wilhite) Hall, 76, went home to be with the 
Lord on Thursday, September 16th, 2021, at Diversicare of Hutchinson.

Karen was such a pure and sweet soul.&nbsp; She always maintained a 
gracious forgiving spirit, even after enduring some cruel blows in 
life.&nbsp; In this way especially she was a role model to her children and 
others.&nbsp; Karen endeavored to love others the way her savior, Jesus 
Christ, loved her.&nbsp;

Karen had many fond memories of her childhood with her “Granny”, 
parents, brothers, Marlett, Durler, and Kirchgassner cousins, and 
friends.&nbsp; She talked a lot about loving her dolls, short-haired terrier 
Trixie, a pogo-stick, a phone in her room, riding horses, and her dear 
housekeeper, Annabelle.&nbsp; And the family has a treasure-trove of pictures
 as evidence.&nbsp;

She also loved life and as a beautiful teen, Karen was known for 
“dragging the gut” in Larned, watching Elvis Presley movies, getting 
into mischief with her closest friends and cousins, and riding her horse
 “Poco EP” (Elvis Presley).&nbsp;&nbsp;

Karen surely loved her family and friends. &nbsp;In late 2019 she was 
asked what made her happiest in life, and Karen said it was her four 
children and her beloved devoted husband Judd. She said that Judd always
 took really good care of her, and for all the years after his passing 
she pined to be reunited with him in Heaven.&nbsp; The Lord has now made that
 reunion happen.

Karen was born September 5, 1945, in Larned, the daughter of Lawrence
 Elwood “L.E.” “Mick” and Alma Maxine Smeltzer Marlett.&nbsp; A lifetime area
 resident.&nbsp; She worked from 1960 through 1980 at A&amp;W restaurant, 
Ritzman’s pharmacy, Larned State Hospital, and T’s Place restaurant.

She was a member of New Beginnings Church of the Nazarene in Larned.

On May 8, 1966, she married John A. Wilhite, they later divorced, and
 he passed away May 7, 2016.&nbsp; On November 9, 1981, she married Judge 
“Judd” Edgar Hall.&nbsp; He passed away May 11, 1995.

Survivors include: two sons, Scott (Rebecca) Kirby Wilhite, Hartford,
 CT, Christopher (Angela) John Wilhite, Larned; two daughters, Teri 
(Jim) Janell (Wilhite) Thomas, Hutchinson, Cindi (David) Diane (Wilhite)
 Dinning, Larned, stepson, Paul Hall; eight grandchildren, Brandon 
Stegman, Faith Dinning, Christian Dinning, Kiley Dinning, Cami (Wilhite)
 Venhaus, Tanner Madden, Dalton Madden, Gage Lawrence and three 
great-grandchildren, Grayson, Jacob, and Abbott Venhaus.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Raymond Dean Marlett and Lawrence Vernal Marlett.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at 
Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned with Pastor Jack Hopkins presiding.&nbsp; 
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Beckwith Mortuary.&nbsp; 
The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.&nbsp; Burial will be 
in the Brown’s Grove Cemetery, Burdett.

Maria C. Arias, 73, passed away September 17, 2021, at the University
 of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus. She was born on December

A Great Bend resident since 1992, Maria was a homemaker. She was a 
member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. 
She especially loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include, her husband, Rafael Arias of the home; her sons, 
Martin, Gerardo and Francisco; her daughters, Maribel, Araceli, Rafaela,
 Luz Maria and Adriana; and many brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday, 
September 20, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Vigil service at 7:00

Robert L. “Bob” Myers, 79, died September 16, 2021, at Ellinwood 
District Hospital.&nbsp; He was born May 1, 1942, in Belleville, Kansas.&nbsp; 
&nbsp;Bob graduated from Otis High School in 1960 and later received his 
bachelor degree from Kansas State University.

On March 19, 1990, he married Gloria Deines in La Crosse, Kansas.

Bob was a teacher and a coach in Bird City for many years. He also 
enjoyed coaching basketball and football and even taught drivers 
education.&nbsp; Bob and Gloria moved to Ellinwood after his retirement in 
2000, where he continued to substitute teach for schools in the 
surrounding area. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed 
cheering on his grandchildren in all their different sporting events.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years Gloria Myers of the home; and 
two daughters, Andrea Ingram and husband Jason of Hoisington, and Amy 
Preister and husband Steve of Andale; nine grandchildren, TiJay Unruh of
 Overland Park, Aurora Ingram of Wichita, Braedon Willesden of Salina, 
Shawn Ingram, Emma Willesden, and Marcus Ingram, all of Hoisington, Eva 
and Brenna Preister of Andale, and Ben Hull of Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harry P. and Emma L. (Ondrack) Schlegel and a sister Doris Bakken.

Visitation will be Monday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at

Robert L. 'Bob' Myers

Carolyn Ann Wilkerson passed away on September 13, 2021, at the Rooks 
County Health Center in Plainville, KS, at the age of 73. She was born 
on May 23, 1948, to Victor and Henneritta (Befort) Younger in Hays, KS. 
She was married to Gary Wilkerson on February 27, 1971, in Ellis Co. 
They were blessed with two sons: Eric and Wesley.
 Carolyn grew up on a farm in rural Ellis Co. and graduated from 
Ellis High School with the Class of 1966. After high school she went 
straight into the workforce. In 1995 she and Gary began C &amp; G 
Trucking Company which they owned and operated in Zurich, KS. Carolyn 
continued to run the business after Gary’s passing in 2005. Her own 
health made her slow down working up until her passing. 
 Carolyn loved tending to her flower garden, knitting, and 
crocheting. She loved watching NFL &amp; College Football and NCAA 
Basketball and it did not make a difference if it was live or 
pre-recorded, she still loved watching the games. She always attended 
her grandkids sporting events from the time they played t-ball all the 
way thru high school sports. She enjoyed going to all of Gary and Eric’s
 drag racing events, as well as her grandkids’ junior dragster events. 
As their #1 Fan, you could always hear her from the stands cheering them
 on. They all made her so very proud. 
 Carolyn was a hardworking and fun-loving woman. She knew how to have
 fun and enjoy life along the way. She will be greatly missed by all who
 knew her, but the celebration of her life and memories will never be 
forgotten. A true fan, she continues to cheer us on to greatness in this
 life, until we see her again, in the life everlasting.
 Carolyn is survived by her son Eric Wilkerson of Zurich, KS; 
sisters, Bernie Miller of Hays, KS, Linda Engel of Hays, KS, and Jane 
Wiggins of Russell, KS; sister-in-law, Becky Younger of Salina, KS; and

Sarah Jean Kemp, 28, passed away September 16, 2021, in Larned.

She was born December 12, 1992, in Hoisington, the daughter of William
 Jackson Crawford and Christina Love Champ.&nbsp; A longtime area resident, 
she was a CNA at Diversicare of Larned.

She enjoyed riding horses, fishing, camping, shooting and traveling to Colorado.

On June 6, 2015, she married Dustin Edward Kemp in Manhattan, KS.&nbsp; He survives.

Other survivors include: four children, Johnathon Kemp, Kelli Kemp, 
Chloe Crawford-Henkle, Conor Crawford-Henkle, all of the home; father, 
Bill (Megan) Crawford, Lyons; mother, Christina Champ, Hoisington; 
father-in-law, Kelly (Tamera) Kemp, Manhattan; mother-in-law, Beth 
(Wayne) Morgan, Nekoma; four brothers, Joshua, Stephen, Shane, Dakota; 
two sisters, Kinsley, Allison and a great grandfather, Carl Henkle,

Patricia Louis Turpin Hesher, 93, was born to Harold Thomas Turpin and Phyliss Artilee Bement Turpin on July 15th, 1928 in Kansas City, Missouri. Patti passed away on September 17, 2021 in Larned.

Patti and Wayne Hesher met in Kansas City at a hospital while he was 
recovering from an operation.&nbsp; Patti arranged to deliver meals to him 
while he was recuperating. The two were united in marriage on April 20th,
 1952 in Kansas City, Missouri. Patti and Wayne's union produced 4 
surviving children. Ed of Amarillo, Texas. Tom of Larned, Kansas, Sandy 
(Gary) Chelcun of Estes Park, Colorado and Mike, Estes Park, Colorado. 
One granddaughter Talisha (Tyler) Dennison of Wellsville, Kansas. One 
great granddaughter, Rose and numerous nieces and nephews. Patti was 
preceded in death by Wayne on November 28th, 2014, her parents, brother Richard Turpin and a sister, Eleanor Arnold.

Patti graduated from Saint Luke's Nursing school in KCMO before 
becoming a psychiatric aid instructor at Larned State Hospital for many 
years. With sports-oriented parents, Patti was a fan of the Kansas City 
Chiefs, Kansas City Royals and Kansas Jayhawks. Patti and Wayne enjoyed 
time at their summer cabin in Estes Park, Colorado and after retirement 
spent many winters in Arizona and Texas. Patti also loved to tend to her
 rose garden, read and bake chip chocolate cookies.

Cremation has taken place and no service is planned at this time.&nbsp;

Marj Dusay, actress, mother, grande dame of life and homegrown 
daughter of Russell, Kansas, died peacefully of natural causes on January
 28, 2020 at her home in New York City. She was 83.

Ms. Dusay, known for her sharp wit, sophistication, and beauty, had a
 long career in the public eye that began with modeling work in her 
native Kansas. Eventually her innate elegance and smile propelled her 
into the pages and onto the covers of magazines in New York, San 
Francisco, and Los Angeles, where she moved upon discovering her love of
 performance.&nbsp; She went on to a long and successful career as an 
actress.&nbsp; From the 60’s television programs, “Star Trek”, “Bonanza”, 
“The Wild, Wild West,” “Get Smart,” and “Hogan’s Heroes” thru the 80’s 
and 90’s Marj performed on many of the best shows on television.&nbsp; Among 
others, shows like “Mannix,” “The FBI,” “Barnaby Jones,” “Fresh Prince 
of Bel Air,” and “The Odd Couple”. &nbsp;Marj was a series regular on “Bret 
Maverick” with James Garner. She recurred for six seasons on “The Facts 
of Life” as Blair’s mother, Monica Warner, which garnered her two Emmy 
nominations.&nbsp; It was during her last two years on that show that she 
simultaneously began working in daytime television on the soap opera 
“Capitol.” &nbsp;When daytime television discovered her it provided a 
template for 25 years of future roles as glamorous, ambitious, and 
sometimes treacherous divas on several long-running soaps: “Santa 
Barbara,” “All My Children,” and “Guiding Light.”

Marj Dusay was born Marjorie Ellen Mahoney on February 20, 1936, in 
Hays, Kansas, and was raised in Russell, Kansas. &nbsp;She had a wonderful 
childhood with her brothers and sisters and was a gifted equestrian 
spending many hours riding and training the family’s horses. &nbsp;In high 
school she excelled in debate and sports; at the University of Kansas 
she performed in plays and was named Homecoming Queen.

In 1956, she married her high school sweetheart, John Dusay (also from
 Russell).&nbsp; The couple first lived in New York then settled in San 
Francisco. When they divorced in 1965, Marj relocated with their 
children, Debra and Randall, to Los Angeles. &nbsp;She later married Thomas 
Perine in 1972 and they remained married until Mr. Perine’s death in 
1987.

Ms. Dusay moved to New York City in 1993 to assume a role on a 
television series and remained living there until her death. &nbsp;She was 
predeceased by her son, Randall; her parent’s, Joseph and Marie Mahoney;
 and her brothers John and Joseph Mahoney. &nbsp;Her sister, Mary Ann Mahoney
 followed her in passing on February 17, 2020, (just 19 days later – they
 were that close).&nbsp; She is survived by her daughter, Debra Dusay 
Blocker; her son-in-law, David Blocker; her granddaughter, Deena 
Blocker; and her siblings, Kathleen Dunn, and Timothy Mahoney, along 
with numerous nieces and nephews. She will be missed by all and was 
loved by everyone.

Marj was blessed with an abundance of talent, wit and humor, all the 
while retaining her down-home roots as a wise and kind woman, loving and
 dedicated mother and friend. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 
AM, Saturday, September 18, 2021 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in

1987.Ms. Dusay moved to New York City in 1993 to assume a role on a 
television series and remained living there until her death. &nbsp;She was 
predeceased by her son, Randall; her parent’s, Joseph and Marie Mahoney;
 and her brothers John and Joseph Mahoney. &nbsp;Her sister, Mary Ann Mahoney
 followed her in passing on February 17, 2020, (just 19 days later – they
 were that close).&nbsp; She is survived by her daughter, Debra Dusay 
Blocker; her son-in-law, David Blocker; her granddaughter, Deena 
Blocker; and her siblings, Kathleen Dunn, and Timothy Mahoney, along 
with numerous nieces and nephews. She will be missed by all and was 
loved by everyone.Marj was blessed with an abundance of talent, wit and humor, all the 
while retaining her down-home roots as a wise and kind woman, loving and
 dedicated mother and friend. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 
AM, Saturday, September 18, 2021 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in

Marj Dusay

Mary Ann Mahoney of Arvada, Colorado, passed away peacefully at home 
surrounded by family and friends on February 17, 2020, from lung disease.
 She taught physical education and coached at Westminster High School, 
retiring in 1985.

Mary Ann was born in Hays, Kansas, to Joseph Martin Mahoney and Marie 
Cecelia Antoinette Pivonka on July 25, 1932. She graduated from high 
school in Russell, Kansas and received her BS from the University of 
Kansas in 1954 and her MS from the University of Colorado in 1970.

A trailblazer in girls interscholastic sports, Mary Ann received The 
Sportswomen of Colorado Dorothy Mauk Pioneer award in 1984. She was a 
USA Gymnastics Brevet Judge and was inducted into the Colorado USA 
Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 1997. She was delegation leader for the USA 
in World and Olympic competitions and she served as Regional 
Administrative Chair and went on to serve as National Administrative 
Chair for the Junior Olympic Program. In 1996 she helped direct the John
 Hancock Tour of World Gymnastics Champions during its 34-city tour. In 
2010, she was honored for her 35 years of service by the National 
Association of Women’s Gymnastics Judges.&nbsp;

Mary Ann loved World War II history, classic movies and old TV shows 
such as Castle and Murder She Wrote. Saving many family heirlooms, she 
rescued and restored them to their original glory. When she saw a need 
for floor exercise mats and bar protectors, she started her own company 
to provide them to the growing gymnastics community. She had a great 
laugh and loved hearing and telling a good clean joke, Irish or not! She
 attended all the summer Olympics games since the 1968 games in Mexico. 
She enjoyed travel in Europe and was especially fond of Ireland. She was
 a devoted sister, aunt, friend and teacher.

Mary Ann is survived by her sister Kathy Dunn of Stillwater, Oklahoma
 and a brother, Tim (Joyce) Mahoney of Wichita, Kansas, as well as many 
nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers Joey and 
John and her sister Marj Dusay (by only nineteen days) and nephews 
Randall Dusay and Stanley Tenan. Mary Ann was a member of The Shrine of 
St Anne Catholic Parish.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 18, 
2021, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp;

Howard Duane “Sparky” Sparks, 81, of Quinter, Kansas, passed away 
September 15, 2021. Duane was born in Bigelow, Kansas, January 9, 1940. 
He liked to point out that being born in 1940 told you his birthday, 
1/9/40. When Duane earned his GED at Fort Hays State University, he 
scored so well that they were disappointed they could not convince him 
to enroll in college courses.&nbsp;

Duane married Marjorie Ann Fast at the United Methodist Church in 
Hays, Kansas, on April 22, 1967. They were married 54 years. During his 
lifetime, Duane worked a wide variety of jobs, doing whatever needed to 
be done; from waiting tables or cooking to construction, going from his 
eighteen years with the Union Pacific railroad, to owning his own 
businesses - a windshield repair franchise, a car wash and his dream 
job, owning a restaurant.

While his hobbies seemed to include revisions to the house on 
Garfield Street, he loved fishing, camping, cooking, bowling, and 
playing Scat with his family and friends. He was always up for a hot cup
 of black coffee or a good meal. His quick wit and winning smile helped 
him meet some pretty interesting people, including Bob Hope, Bill Cosby,
 Dwight &amp; Mamie Eisenhower, Robert Pope, and several famous singers.
 Duane has spent a day at Jimmy Dean’s house, taken a drive in Al 
Capone’s car, and chatted with the infamous killers of the Clutter 
family near Holcomb, Kansas. In the two times he waited on Johnny Carson
 at the Wyrum Motel in Kansas City, he made such an impression that 
Johnny mentioned his friend, Sparky, on the Late Show. It’s no wonder he
 always had a story to tell!

Duane is survived by his wife, Marjorie; his siblings Elaine 
Bumgardner of Udall, Kansas; Larry Sparks and wife, Barbara of 
Milwaukie, Oregon; Doug Flin and wife, Judy, of Denver, Colorado; Bonnie
 Beckman of Marysville, Kansas; Ronald Sparks and wife, Deb, of 
Marquette, Kansas; his children Howard Eugene Eng of Sioux City, Iowa; 
Scott Sparks of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Angie Mae Sparks and Jesse York 
of Atlantic Beach, North Carolina; Ericka Cole and husband, Dan, of 
Lawrence, Kansas; Jesica Sparks and Kelvin Brown, of Mead, Colorado; 
Shayna Young and husband, Rob, of Greensburg, Kansas; and Hugh Sparks of
 Oktaha, Oklahoma; fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. 
Duane was preceded in death by his father, Howard Chester Sparks; 
mother, Wilma Edra McDonald Sparks; stepmother Agatha Mae Sparks; and 
younger brother Riley Gene Sparks.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, September 18, 
2021, at the Quinter United Methodist Church, Pastor Ronda Johnson 
officiating.

Howard Duane 'Sparky' Sparks

Raymond Stanley Mayers was born August 23, 1918, to John and Maudie 
(Foster) Mayers in rural Clifton, Kansas, the fourth of their five&nbsp;sons.
 &nbsp;He departed this life on September 14, 2021, in Osborne, Kansas, at 
the age of 103.

The family moved to a farm southeast of Osborne in 1927 and Raymond 
attended Mount Hope, a one-room schoolhouse, through eighth grade and 
graduated from Osborne High School in 1935 at the age of sixteen. &nbsp;After
 graduation, Raymond expanded the farming and livestock operation and 
continued to spend his remaining 94 years on the family farm.

He was united in marriage to Laurine Krier on May 24, 1949, and seven
 children were born to this union including&nbsp;one son Joseph who died at 
birth (1957). &nbsp;Raymond was blessed with 19 grandchildren and 39 
great-grandchildren.

As a young man, two of Raymond's brothers were drafted into the 
service which shifted many farm responsibilities to him such as teaming 
up the horses to work the fields, milking cows, feeding livestock, 
harvesting crops, cutting wood, and whatever else needed to be done.

Raymond entertained his family and friends with numerous memories of 
growing up on the farm, experiencing the Stock Market Crash of 1929, the
 Dirty Thirties, grasshopper invasions, the introduction of using 
tractors for farmwork, purchase of the family's first vehicle, the 
installation of electricity on the farm, the Bombing of Pearl Harbor, WW
 II, JFK assassination, and the first man stepping on the moon.

Raymond recalled that during his childhood years his mother played 
the organ for barn dances on the farm. &nbsp;Dancing remained a leisure 
activity and five years ago the granddaughters were honored to dance 
with him at his grandson's wedding dance. &nbsp;He enjoyed playing cards, 
fishing, hunting, and going for drives to view his crops while sharing 
stories about people who lived on the homesteads over the last few 
generations. &nbsp;A well-known trademark of Raymond was him still having his
 thick head of black hair.

Raymond was a member of St. Aloysius Gonzaga Catholic Church in Osborne and was a Charter member of the Knights of Columbus.

Raymond is survived by his six children: Cynthia (Larry) Kendig, 
Darlene (Craig) Hadley, Shirley (Kent) Thompson, and Lisa (Doyle) 
Spears, all of Osborne; and Deanna (Rick) Smith, and Stan (Pam) Mayers 
both of Hays, Kansas. &nbsp;Grandchildren are Carrie (Thompson) Rottinghaus, 
Brian Hadley, Laurie (Kendig) Pitman, Jill (Hadley) Guajardo, Lance 
Kendig, Ryan Smith, Jacqueline (Thompson) Remus, Brett Kendig, Scott 
Thompson, Derek Spears, Holly (Smith) Cook, Dustin Spears, Renee 
(Thompson) Harrell, Andrew Smith, Jenna (Mayers) Meyer, Tana (Spears) 
Fuentes, Jason Mayers, Dylan Spears, and Jared Mayers. &nbsp;He is also 
survived by 39 great-grandchildren. &nbsp;Raymond was predeceased by his 
parents, his wife, his infant son, and four brothers Cecil, Marvin, 
Walter, and Virgil.
