Jerry Liby, 51, passed away Nov. 11, 2021, in Hays. He was born on June 11, 1970m in Akron, Ohio, to Richard and Paula Liby.

Some people knew him as “Rich O’Brien” from the radio. It was something he was truly passionate about and enjoyed so much. Jerry was always someone to lend a helping hand where he could. He faced some obstacles in life, but will always be remembered as a father who loved his kids more than anything on earth.

Surviving family includes his wife of eight years Tammy Liby, his daughters, Paige Liby (Branson, Mo.), and Cheyenne Hawk (Sharon Springs), Joslynn Liby (Goodland); &nbsp;sons, Alec Liby (Branson, Mo.), Nathaniel Davis (Springfield, Mo.), Devon Davis (Oklahoma City), Bryton Windom (Liberal) and Cody Hawk (Sharon Springs) Kenny Liby (Adel, Iowa); grandchildren Landon Liby, Grayson Liby, Cayden Liby, Lucas Liby, Alexa Martinez, Jae Martinez, and Ph’Aro Davis.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Richard and Paula Liby.

Charles (Charlie) Bratton Ring was born
 May 14, 1989,&nbsp;in Laramie, WY.&nbsp;He passed away at Hays Medical Center in 
Hays, KS November 4, 2021. 

After graduating High School in Pierre, SD he
 volunteered service in the United States Marine Corps during which time
 he was deployed overseas three times and earned numerous honors. He 
had&nbsp;a lifelong interest in mountain tops, deserts,&nbsp;oceans,&nbsp;and physical 
conditioning. He excelled in ice hockey,&nbsp;earning recognition as the 
South Dakota top high school goalie.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He loved spear fishing in the 
Missouri River, scuba diving off the coast of California,&nbsp;fishing for 
sharks off the coast of&nbsp;South&nbsp;Carolina,&nbsp;hunting big game in the 
mountains, pheasant hunting in South Dakota,&nbsp;camping in the 
Arizonadesert,&nbsp;and&nbsp;riding his motorcycle cross country. &nbsp;He completed a 
degree in&nbsp;Earth and&nbsp;Environmental Science, with a minor in 
Sustainability from the University of Arizona.&nbsp;

Charlie was preceded in 
death by his paternal grandparents, Ava and Charles Ring, and maternal 
grandfather John Ginther. 

Survivors include his&nbsp;Grandmother Bonnie 
Ginther of Hays.&nbsp;mother, Carmen Ginther of Hays,&nbsp;father,&nbsp;Charles Ring of
 Lucas, a brother Dustin in Ellis and a sister Megan in Houston, TX.

A military service, with full honors, 
will be held November 23, 2021,&nbsp;at 2:00 PM&nbsp;at the Veterans Cemetery 
in&nbsp;Wakeeney, KS. Directly following will be a 
slideshow/remembrance/celebration of his life at the VFW hall 
in&nbsp;Wakeeney, KS.

Charles 'Charlie' Bratton Ring

Raymond Emanuel Mai, 97, passed away on November 16, 2021, at the 
Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital, WaKeeney. He was born on January 
22, 1924, the son of Fred and Marie (Blehm) Mai in the farmhouse in 
Trego County.

Raymond was raised on the farm in Trego County and went to the Wilcox
 country school and attended the Zion Lutheran Church, Trego Center. As a
 young man he worked with the neighborhood farms to help support the 
family.

On September 21, 1946, he married Velma Giess in Arnold, Kansas.&nbsp; 
Raymond and Velma had three girls, Delma, Dana, and Debbie. In July 1975
 a tragic car accident took his wife, Velma, and his mother, Marie, in 
death.

Raymond was active in 4-H, worked for the ASCS office, was a 
recipient of the master farmer award, he was on the Board of Directors 
at the Citizens State Bank, Utica, raised registered Hereford cattle, 
showed and sold registered Hereford bulls and was an active member of 
the Arnold United Methodist Church. He was an avid bowler, Polka dancer,
 card player, and St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.

In 1989 he married Peggy (Hunt) Giess in Arnold. They enjoyed their 
blended families. Raymond and Peggy traveled, danced, and enjoyed family
 until her passing on October 16, 2019.

Preceding Peggy in death were her first husband Bob; her sons, Roger 
and Randy; and granddaughter, Tara. She is survived by Mike and Julie 
Giess and family, Dave and LaVonne and granddaughter, Kenzie and Rob and
 sons.

Preceding Raymond in death is his wife, Velma, and wife, Peggy; his 
parents, Fred and Marie; brothers, Paul, Hubert, Reuben, Art; and a 
sister Helen; son-in law, Ken; grandson, Christopher; and granddaughter,
 Paige.

Survivors include daughters, Delma and Larry Collins-McAllister, 
daughters Michele and family, Misty and boys; Dana and Roger Fagan, son,
 Darcy, daughter, Danelle and grandson, Kaleb; Debbie and Maurice 
Friess, son Matthew and family, daughter Desiree and family; his 
sisters, Thelma, Geri, Rose&nbsp; and his brothers, Vernon , Fred, George, 
and Tom.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist 
Church, Arnold on Tuesday, November 23, 2021.&nbsp; Burial in the Arnold 
Cemetery. Viewing will be held at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City on 
Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and at the church until service 
time on Tuesday.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Arnold United Methodist Church or the Trego County-Lemke assisted Living Care Center.

Bryan Tate Barnett was born in Hays, KS on December 23, 1964, to Bill 
&amp; Sondra (Wark) Barnett. He went home to be with the Lord at the age
 of 56, on November 14, 2021, at the University Medical Center in El 
Paso, TX. 
Bryan grew up on a farm north of Gem, KS and learned the principals of 
hard work and family values. He worked for a number of farmers around 
this area. He graduated from Colby High School. He had a passion for 
flying and earned his private pilot’s license at the age of 16. After 
graduation, he moved to Florida, working in food service while he 
attended F.I.T. flight school. He served in the U.S. Marines and 
afterward, stayed and worked as a salesman in North Carolina. He was 
also involved in street ministry while there. 
He returned to Kansas and married Lori Homer in 1995. He became a father
 to her two sons and two more sons were born to this union. 
Following the death of his father, Bryan and two of his brothers became the pastors at Christian Heritage Church in Liberal, KS. 
Bryan worked in the construction business, jointly forming Barnett Home 
Improvements with two of his brothers. As a man of vision, he helped to 
create many attractive renovations. He was a general contractor and 
built several houses. He had a trucking business that was growing at the
 time of his passing. 
Bryan was very involved in ministry of any kind. He was an ordained 
minister of the Pentecostal Holiness. He served as Youth Pastor in both 
Word of Life Church in Liberal, KS and Seeds of Hope Church in Sublette,
 KS. He was involved with the Ministerial Alliance in Liberal and was 
the first Police Chaplain there. Bryan loved music and was the sound and
 lighting technician for many different groups &amp; bands. He was the 
director of the Light House Ministry &amp; performed and directed 
worship sets, block parties and other Christian events. One of his 
favorite ministry outlets was the Tribe of Judah Motorcycle Ministry and
 he served as president of the El Paso, TX branch. He held a full patch 
with them. 
Bryan was a free spirit who colorfully wrote his own story, filling each
 chapter of his life to the fullest. His adventures were defined by his 
larger-than-life personality, his sense of humor and his giving heart. 
He took on the role of father &amp; mentor to many in his life, with a 
determination to help, and with a passion to share his abiding faith in 
God. He was a devoted and faithful Christian and an active member of 
Grace Christian Center in El Paso. 
Bryan was preceded in death by his father Bill; grandparents, Ralph and 
Velma Barnett and Lawrence and Hulda Wark and step-son Mitchel Franz. 
He is survived by his wife Carmen, of El Paso; sons, Elijah (Ashley)

Casey Scott Barnum

William Roger “Bill” Turner passed away at the Rooks Center Health 
Center in Plainville, KS on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at the age of 
79. He was born on July 7, 1942, in Lyons, Kansas, to William H. and 
Edith (Darland) Turner. 
 Bill was raised in Lyons and graduated from Lyons High School with 
the class of 1960. He then attended Hutchinson Community College and 
Kansas State University at Manhattan. After college he enlisted and went
 to Lackland Air Force for training and continued that training at the 
Lowry Air Force Base in Denver. He was United States Air Force Reserve 
until his honorable discharge in 1971. After his discharge, he began 
work in Kansas City, Missouri, for the IRS as lead computer technician 
for 30 years until he retired on October 20, 1994.
 Bill was a very independent person and enjoyed time to himself with 
his model trains. He earned his Private Pilot License and built his own 
Ultralight plane named “Mr. Bill” which he later sold. He also loved 
studying oil rigs and leases on oil fields, mapping out the oil, and 
reading books.
 He is survived by cousins and friends.
 Bill joins in his heavenly home his parents and grandparents.
 A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, November 22, 2021, at 
the Lyons City Cemetery, Lyons, Kansas at 1:30 PM. There will be a brief
 time to view on Monday from 8AM until 10AM at the funeral home in 
Plainville.

Jerrol Keith Beckwith, 86, went to be with Jesus November 17, 2021, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.

He was born October 12, 1935, in Larned, the son of Carrol Kneeland and Hazel Carolyn Smith Beckwith.

A lifetime area resident, he was a banker, working in St. Joseph, 
Missouri, and Stafford, Liberal, and Lorraine, Kansas. He was a member

TX, Delaney Meg Beckwith, Oklahoma City, OK, Mallory (Joe) Auer, Ethan 
Sauer, Madison Sauer, all of Ellinwood; and one great granddaughter, 
Lexi Auer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Carrol Kay 
Beckwith, and two sisters, Carolyn Annette Murphy and V. Clione Bieber.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 
Encounter Church, Great Bend, with Pastor Dwight Dozier presiding.

Beckwith Mortuary, Larned with family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00

Marilyn Mae Davis, 79, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2021, 
surrounded by her family and friends in her last days. She lived a long,
 happy life, and passed away peacefully at the University of Kansas 
Health Systems – Great Bend Campus, after a short battle with colon 
cancer.&nbsp; Marilyn was born February 2, 1942 in the small town of Minot, 
N.D. to Marvin and Helen Gunter. Marilyn married Lawrence D. “L.D.” 
Davis August 16, 1969, at St. Louis, Mo.&nbsp; He passed away May 27, 2016.

Her father became the principle at her school, so doing her homework 
was not an option. Raised to believe that education and Christian faith 
were important pillars in life, she moved to St. Paul, Minn. to pursue 
nursing in college. After graduating, she moved to St. Louis, Mo. where 
she worked as a nurse. It was here she would meet the love of her life 
(L.D. Davis) and six short months later, they were married! Together, 
they moved to Great Bend where they would raise a family, share lifelong
 friendships, travel the world, and even open their own business they 
would call L.D. Drilling. Marilyn would hangup her scrubs and dive feet 
first into the oilfield, working in the family business until the end of
 her days.

Known as a straight talker, kind and generous to all, with an ornery 
sense of humor, she was loved by all who knew her. She was an active 
member of the First Baptist Church, Ellinwood, for over 40 years, and 
attended Encounter Church (First Assembly of God), Great Bend.&nbsp; Having a
 servant’s heart, Marilyn gererously supported many charities, 
ministries and missions. Her favorite things to do were to visit with 
dear friends, have her "grandma day" every Saturday, and play her 
favorite games of Chicken Foot and Uno.

She is survived by her two sons, Larry Davis and companion Tina 
Lankas of McKinney, Texas, and Mark and Kathleen Davis of Ellinwood; 
five grandchildren, Jessica Way of Benson, Minn., Kaili Davis of Kansas 
City, Kan., as well as Aidan, Isabella, and Quinlyn Davis, all of 
Ellinwood; three siblings, Don Gunter of East St. Louis, Ill., Margie 
Carlson and husband Dan of Las Vegas, Nev., and Carol Witt-Strassburger 
and husband Bob of Greenbay, Wis.; and step son-in-law, Scott Brummitt 
of Edmond, Okla. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband of 47 
years, L.D. Davis; a stepdaughter, Dawn Nell Brummitt; and her 
sister-in-law, Royal Gunter.

She will be missed, loved, and always remembered.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 23, 2021, 
at the Encounter Church (First Assembly of God), Great Bend, with 
Reverend Arlyn Thielenhaus presiding.&nbsp; Graveside services will be 2:00 
p.m. at the Lakin Comanche Cemetery, Ellinwood.&nbsp; Visitation will be 
11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 22, with the family receiving

Gary L. Smith

Judith Ann “Judy” (Richardson) Sander, Stockton, KS, passed away on 
November 16, 2021, at Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, KS. She was born
 on July 29, 1945, to Kenneth James and Florence June (Vest) Richardson 
in Chadron, NE.
 Judy’s father later remarried, and she was lucky enough to have 
inherited a stepsister, Phyllis. They were like two peas in a pod 
growing up. After the death of her father, she moved back to Stockton 
where she graduated from high school. 
 Judy had four children: Kimberly, who passed at a young age, 
William, who was still born, and then came along the light in her eyes 
with Charles and Brian. She was a wonderful mother and would do anything
 for her boys.
 Judy was lucky enough to later marry the love of her life, George 
Frederick Sander on May 20, 1978. Judy and George loved to go on trips 
with Charlie and Brian and make memories when not busy working. During 
this time, they had their first grandson, Keith, who spent much time 
with them. Mostly causing mischief with George.
 When she was 45 (1985), Judy was adopted by Dorrine Dix who had 
three daughters (Janette, Janice, and Janine) who would become near and 
dear to Judy.
 During her life, she owned and operated Stockton Florist for many 
years where flowers and ceramics became her passion while George kept 
busy on the family farm. She later worked at Solomon Valley Manor as the
 Activities Director which she loved, and later retired as a security 
guard for many years at the correctional facilities in Stockton and 
Norton, KS. It’s still hard to picture that last one, but believe it or 
not, she was very respected in that job, and she was proud of that.
 And when those grandboys (Keith, Dalton, Kyler, and Kolton) came, 
boy did she spoil them. She took them places and made memories which 
they will never forget. She would always say “these boys aren’t going to
 forget me”. And she was correct. Those boys grew up and would do 
anything for her. The bond they had was one of a kind.
 Judy kept very active and was always on-the-go with her community 
work. We would always say her best talent was the gift of gab, and my 
goodness was she good at it. Just ask anyone who knew her if she ever 
had a loss for words and I’d imagine they wouldn’t be able to. She was 
involved with Sigma Phi ESA, VFW Auxiliary, and Rooks Co Health Center 
Auxiliary. Earlier in life she was on the Economic Development Board, a 
Cub Scout Leader for her boys, and kept involved with church, stepping 
in wherever needed. She loved her daily meetings with her coffee group 
after retirement came, her ESA and Auxiliary sisters, scrapbooking with 
family and friends, and decorating houses at Christmastime. Some may say
 she went overboard, but that was Judy. Most of all she loved her 
family, especially her grandsons. She would continually brag about them,
 even to strangers while shopping, and embarrass them. She also had many
 adventures with the boys and was very involved in everything they did 
growing up. She retired just to go on a family trip with Brian’s family 
which goes to show just how important family was.
 Judy was a faith-filled woman who dedicated her life to unity, 
friendship, and service. She taught us by example how to serve and care 
for one another. Her strong spirit and open heart made all who knew her 
feel loved. Heaven has a new angel to watch over us. I’d imagine right 
now, she’s sipping that Starbucks coffee and catching up with everyone 
as well as watching over us.
 Judy is survived by her sons, Charles Francis Sander and wife Marsha
 of Stockton KS and Brian Sander and wife Trish of Plainville KS; 
sisters, Janine Gilbert of Okoboji, IA and Janette LeRoy of Omaha, NE; 
and four grandchildren, Charles “Keith” Sander (Jane), Dalton Sander, 
Kyler Sander, and Kolton Sander.
 She is preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Florence; 
daughter Kimberly Kay Sander; son William James Sander; beloved husband 
George; adopted mother, Dorrine Dix; sisters Phyllis Wahl and Janice 
Clayton; and brother-in-law, Larry Gilbert.
 A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021, at 
11AM at the funeral home in Stockton. There will be no public 
visitation.

Luba Korobka Holm Brinkman was born on June 17, 1939, in the Ukraine 
(former USSR).&nbsp; At the age of 2, she moved to Germany with her family 
where they spent time in a work camp during World War II.&nbsp; The family 
immigrated to the United States when she was 13, where they settled in 
Newton, KS.&nbsp; She married Glenn Holm and was blessed with 6 children.&nbsp; In
 addition to being a full time mother, she worked at Hehr Windows for 35+ years.&nbsp; She later married Gerald Brinkman in 1983.

Luba was an avid churchgoer, devoting years of service to the Peabody
 United Methodist Church and later to the Pathway Church of Wichita.&nbsp; 
Luba loved her community, her family and her Lord.&nbsp; She was a mother and
 grandmother to all.&nbsp; She was affectionately known as “little grandma” 
by her great grandchildren.&nbsp; Her cooking and baking will certainly be 
missed, but she will forever be remembered for her famous hugs.&nbsp; She 
also enjoyed putting together puzzles with roommate and friend Marie, 
her boxing classes, listening to Elvis, and spending time with loved 
ones.&nbsp;&nbsp; She loved telling others how blessed she was with her friends 
and family.

Luba arrived in her forever home on November 9, 2021, just in time to celebrate her son George’s 60th birthday.

Luba is survived by daughter Annette (Eric) Ferrell of Denton, TX; 
daughter Debbie (David) Pusateri of Wichita, KS; son Richard Holm of 
Peabody, KS; daughter Liz (John) Snelling of Augusta, KS; daughter Traci
 (Paul) Hines of Wichita, KS; daughter&nbsp; Lisa (Brian) McDowell of Baldwin
 City, KS; son James (Janette) Brinkman of Chanute, KS; brother George 
(Virginia) Korobka of Hays, KS; brother Victor Korobka of Newton, KS; 17
 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; dog 
Bentley, and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by parents Anatoly (Tony) and Anna Korobka;
 first husband Glenn Holm; second husband Gerald Brinkman; sister and 
Brother in Law Switlana and Stan Briar; son George Holm; son Frank 
Brinkman; daughter-in-law Josie Holm; and dog Junior.

Memorial services were held Nov. 13 at 
Peabody United Methodist Church.&nbsp;

Luba Korobka Holm Brinkman

Nyla Marie (Marsh) Powell, age 66, passed away in her home on November
 14th, 2021, in Downs, Ks. She was born to Charles Marsh and Charlotte 
(Willmarth) Marsh in Sibley, Iowa, on August 3rd, 1955. &nbsp;

Nyla may have been born in Iowa, but she laid down her roots in Downs
 Ks where she dedicated her life and was a tremendous asset to the 
community. In April of 1974, she was united in marriage to Brad Gant and 
to that union Corinne Renee was born. The past 4 years she also had a 
fur son Kirby who she loved tremendously. Nyla was also a bonus mom to 
Brandy Kirchhoff Becker for many years.&nbsp;

Nyla’s truest loves were her grandchildren Kennedy, Tatum, Cooper, 
and Declan. She loved to support them in all their extracurricular 
activities. With all the exciting activities she found another passion 
to take photos. She became well known in the family as the one who would
 capture all the beautiful moments with her love of taking pictures. 
Nyla was also well known to her family and friends for making Christmas 
stockings as a new baby or significant other were added to the family. 
Everyone cherished these stockings because she made sure they 
represented each individual and she put her love and time into them.&nbsp;

Nyla graduated from the Minneapolis High School and went on to get 
her associates degree at the Vo-Tech in Beloit, Ks. Once living in 
Downs, she found her forever workplace and worked at the local 
pharmacies that were owned by Don Heiland, Kelly Berkley and Shawna 
Doane.&nbsp; In 1999 she went and received certification as a pharmacy 
technician.&nbsp;

Dedicating many years to the Downs Parks and Recreation group she 
became a true asset to the organization and community.&nbsp; Nyla made sure 
the baseball/softball teams were well supported and that the children of
 the community were taken care of through that organization. Nyla loved 
living in Downs and that love she proved through all years being so 
faithful to the various organizations and jobs she had.&nbsp;

Nyla is preceded in death&nbsp;by her parents and Betty Kaspers (mother in
 law) and left to mourn her is her daughter Corinne (Bryan) Hoard, 
Kennedy Walsh (Alexis Ryan), Tatum, Cooper, Declan Hoard, her siblings 
Kevin, Valerie, Calvin, Margaret, Anthony &amp; Aaron, sister in law 
Lana Gant and family Lela, Trevor, Hadee, Tynlee, Ridge Arnoldy, Dee, 
Jesse, Byntlee and Kessler Winkel, nieces and nephews that she dearly 
loved and friends that became family, and a beautiful community that she
 cherished.&nbsp;

Nyla will be forever missed by her family, friends, and coworkers. 
She will remembered for many things but most of all for loving her 
family and her work.

Memorial services will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Downs Parks and Recreation.&nbsp;

 14th, 2021, in Downs, Ks. She was born to Charles Marsh and Charlotte 
(Willmarth) Marsh in Sibley, Iowa, on August 3rd, 1955. &nbsp;Nyla may have been born in Iowa, but she laid down her roots in Downs
 Ks where she dedicated her life and was a tremendous asset to the 
community. In April of 1974, she was united in marriage to Brad Gant and 
to that union Corinne Renee was born. The past 4 years she also had a 
fur son Kirby who she loved tremendously. Nyla was also a bonus mom to

Nyla Marie (Marsh) Powell

Norma Jean Mulligan, age 77, passed away on&nbsp;Monday, November&nbsp;15th, 
2021, at her home in Scott City, Kansas. She was born on November 
17th,&nbsp;1943,&nbsp;in Lane County, Kansas, the&nbsp;daughter of Paul LeRoy and Mary 
Olive Hurst Jewell.&nbsp;She was a&nbsp;lifetime resident of Scott City, Kansas 
until 1990 when she moved to Sallisaw, Oklahoma until 2012. She 
graduated&nbsp;from Fort Hays University with an&nbsp;associate&nbsp;degree.

She was a member of the AQHA, KWHA, Pink&nbsp;Lady,&nbsp;Scott County&nbsp;4-H, along with being on the Senior Center Board.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On November 3rd,&nbsp;1962,&nbsp;she married Kenneth Mulligan, in Scott City, 
Kansas.&nbsp;He passed away on May 29th,&nbsp;2010,&nbsp;in Sallisaw, Oklahoma.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include&nbsp;Two&nbsp;Sons- Brad&nbsp;Mulligan &amp; Bonnie Cusimano&nbsp;of 
Sallisaw,&nbsp;Oklahoma, Bryan &amp; Linda Mulligan&nbsp;of Scott&nbsp;City,

Virginia Ann “Ginger” Bott, 70, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at her home in La Crosse, Kansas.

Ginger was born June 9, 1951, in Hays, Kansas, the daughter of 
Charles Glenn and Margaret Veronica (Delaney) Seaman.&nbsp; Most of Ginger’s 
life was spent as a resident of Rush County, Kansas.&nbsp; A huge part of 
Ginger’s life was the Rush County Memorial Hospital, La Crosse, Kansas, 
where she was employed for more than 30 years before her retirement.

Survivors include:&nbsp; one son, Jamey Bott (Ashley), Russell, Kansas; 
one daughter, Michelle Ring, Hays, Kansas; three grandchildren, Delaney 
Bott, Anderson Bott, and McCallian “Calli” Bott; three sisters, JoAnn 
Huber, La Crosse, Kansas, Karen Depperschmidt, El Reno, Oklahoma, and 
Janet Basgall (Virgil), Carson City, Nevada; and numerous nephews and 
nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Joseph Bott; and one brother, Charles “Chuck” Seaman.

Per Ginger’s wishes, the family has chosen cremation.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 21, 2021, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas.&nbsp;

Colorado Springs, Colorado, resident and former Goodland, Kansas, resident, Constance “Connie” Caroline Townsend, 83, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2021, at St. Francis Medical Center in Colorado Springs, CO. &nbsp;

Connie was born on May 6, 1938, in Goodland, KS to Lloyd Thomas and Mable Lucille (Losey) Mucklow.&nbsp; She was one of five children.&nbsp; She attended school in Goodland and graduated from Sherman Community High School in 1956. &nbsp;

On October 2, 1954, she married Kenneth Dean Townsend; they celebrated 61½ years together.&nbsp; To this union, seven children were born; Laural, Karen, Sherilyn, Daniel, Kendra, Anita and Michael.

Connie and Ken raised their family on the farm. She was a hard worker, helping with the farming, growing a big garden every year, and canning and freezing food for the winters, all the while taking good care of her family.

Then when the grandbabies came, she welcomed each one of them into her heart and her arms and her home. She loved each of them in a big way. She loved having big family get togethers and cooking a big meal any time family could get together. She made the best homemade noodles, and the best bierocks, and the best fudge, and the best pies, and the best fried chicken, and the best mac ‘n cheese, and the best……everything. She also had a love for sweets – Butterfingers, cookies and all things sweet.

Connie and Ken moved to Colorado Springs in 1984. Connie got her real estate license and they also started a property management business, in which they managed over 100 commercial properties until they retired. For many years they enjoyed their leisure time at their mountain cabin.

One of her great joys was making make bear quilts for the great-grandbabies; each one was filled with love. She also enjoyed sharing her love with all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren by making sure she had something for each of them at Christmas.

In her later years she became interested in succulent plants and had a large variety of plants in her home and yard. She read about them and knew everything about each one of them, and she took great pride in them. She was always more than willing to share them with the family when they came to visit.&nbsp;

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, one brother, three sisters and one infant granddaughter.

She is survived by her children Laural (Dana) Belshe of Goodland, KS, Karen (Bill) Mitchell of Colorado Springs, CO, Sherilyn (Craig) Randolph of Denver, CO, Daniel Townsend of Colorado Springs, CO, Kendra Whitaker of Dallas, TX, Anita (Marvin) Studer of Colorado Springs, CO and Michael (Mindy) Townsend of Ottumwa, IA.&nbsp; She is also survived by one brother-in-law Leo Townsend of Goodland, KS, 19 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021, at 1:30 PM MT at the Calvary Gospel Church in Goodland with Pastor Dan Beilfuss officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.

Robert E. Waugh

Melvin Dale Kvasnicka, age 82, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away 
peacefully on November 7, 2021, at Ascension Via Christi, with his 
family by his side. He was born on March 3, 1939, in Luray, Kansas, to 
Charles Everett Kvasnicka and Amelia Keller Kvasnicka. 
In 1951 the Kvasnicka family moved to Colby, Kansas where Mel attended 
and graduated from Colby High School in 1957. During this time, he was 
active in sports, loved to learn, and spend time with his friends. 
In August 1958, he married Rose Ann Cooper, of Selden, KS, at the First 
United Methodist Church in Colby, KS where he was a member. Through this
 marriage they had two daughters, Kim and Kayla. 
The majority of Mel’s professional years were spent as a clothing 
representative in the men’s apparel industry. He worked for the 
companies Kennington LTD, Faded Glory, Union Bay and he was the owner of
 The Cloth Tattoo. Throughout his career, he traveled extensively 
nationally and internationally. He was recognized and awarded many 
honors for being a “top salesman”. 
Upon his retirement in 2002, Mel moved to Manhattan, Kansas to be close 
to his family. He led a full and beautiful life. He was an avid reader, 
golfer, loved music, sports, his weekly motorcycle rides and Friday 
night dinners with his friends. He was an amazing cook and loved being 
the “Chef Master” at the annual Thanksgiving and Fourth of July family 
gatherings for many years. One of the greatest joys of his life was 
getting to see his granddaughter, Jenna Marie, grow up. He loved 
attending her club softball games, high school and college softball 
games. He was her superfan. He also loved to keep in touch with his 
siblings and close friends on a weekly basis. 
Mel was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Amelia and his younger Brother Charles Jr. 
He is survived by his two daughters, Kim Kvasnicka of Manhattan, KS and 
Kayla Kvasnicka (Doug) Stigge of Manhattan, KS; granddaughter Jenna 
Stigge and fiancé Sam Ketcherside of Valley Falls, KS; step 
granddaughter Raegen (Andy) Barger of Navarre, FL; step-grandson Justin 
(Meghan) Stigge of Shawnee, KS and step-great grandchildren Sawyer and 
Eli Barger and Coleman and Ian Stigge. Surviving siblings are brother 
Richard (Judith) Kvasnicka of Oakley, KS, sister Charlotte Kvasnicka of 
Ellsworth, KS, sister Nancy Kvasnicka Slotterback of Des Moines, IA, and
 sister-in-law Holly Hart Kvasnicka of Sun City, AZ. He is also survived
 by numerous nieces, nephews and friends that he loved dearly. 
A Celebration of Mel’s life will be scheduled at a later date in Colby,

 The Cloth Tattoo. Throughout his career, he traveled extensively 
nationally and internationally. He was recognized and awarded many 
honors for being a “top salesman”. 
Upon his retirement in 2002, Mel moved to Manhattan, Kansas to be close 
to his family. He led a full and beautiful life. He was an avid reader, 
golfer, loved music, sports, his weekly motorcycle rides and Friday 
night dinners with his friends. He was an amazing cook and loved being 
the “Chef Master” at the annual Thanksgiving and Fourth of July family 
gatherings for many years. One of the greatest joys of his life was 
getting to see his granddaughter, Jenna Marie, grow up. He loved 
attending her club softball games, high school and college softball 
games. He was her superfan. He also loved to keep in touch with his 
siblings and close friends on a weekly basis. 
Mel was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Amelia and his younger Brother Charles Jr. 
He is survived by his two daughters, Kim Kvasnicka of Manhattan, KS and 
Kayla Kvasnicka (Doug) Stigge of Manhattan, KS; granddaughter Jenna 
Stigge and fiancé Sam Ketcherside of Valley Falls, KS; step 
granddaughter Raegen (Andy) Barger of Navarre, FL; step-grandson Justin 
(Meghan) Stigge of Shawnee, KS and step-great grandchildren Sawyer and 
Eli Barger and Coleman and Ian Stigge. Surviving siblings are brother 
Richard (Judith) Kvasnicka of Oakley, KS, sister Charlotte Kvasnicka of 
Ellsworth, KS, sister Nancy Kvasnicka Slotterback of Des Moines, IA, and
 sister-in-law Holly Hart Kvasnicka of Sun City, AZ. He is also survived
 by numerous nieces, nephews and friends that he loved dearly.

Saturday, November 13, 2021, Verlan Leslie Bell, loving husband of Mary 
Lou (Lambert) Bell and father of four children, passed away peacefully 
at his home in Centennial, Colorado at the age of 90.
 Verlan was born September 5, 1931, in rural Graham County Kansas to 
Vernon and Mabel (Clark) Bell. He was the third child of seven. Verlan 
attended a one room country school in rural Graham County graduating 
from 8th grade in 1946. He completed grades 9-11 at Morland High School 
where he played football. After 11th grade he left school to help on the
 family farm. He worked as a farm hand for his father in Clayton, Kansas
 from 1944-1951. During his teen years, Verlan completed many 4H 
projects and later obtained his GED. In 1950 he met the love of his 
life, Mary Lou, while she was a freshman in high school. After dating 
for a couple of years they were engaged December 24, 1951. They were 
married June 12, 1954 and enjoyed 64 years together before Mary Lou’s 
death in 2019.
 Verlan was drafted into the army October 30, 1951. He served with 
the 51st Signal Battalion in Korea. The battalion furnished telephone 
and very high frequency radio service for the I Corps. Private Bell was 
assigned as a pole lineman. He was released from active military service
 after three years and transferred to Army Reserve to complete eight 
years of service under the Universal Military Training and Service Act. 
Verlan received the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service 
Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Meritorious Unit 
Commendation.
 After Verlan and Mary Lou married they honeymooned in Colorado. They
 returned to Hill City, Kansas to begin their life together. Verlan 
worked for the power company and ran the projector for the movie theater
 in town. May 14, 1955, they were blessed with their first child, Leslie
 Owen. May 29, 1957, Verlan was shocked by a 2400-volt electric line 
while at work. The shock knocked him unconscious causing him to fall to 
the ground. His heart restarted when he hit the ground. He survived the 
fall with only cuts and bruises ~ a tremendous miracle and blessing from
 God for his family!
 November 19, 1957, Debra Ann was born followed by Diana Kay August 
19, 1959. In the fall of 1959 Verlan moved his family to Littleton, 
Colorado. Verlan worked for Martin Marietta before opening a Conoco 
station in Englewood, Colorado in 1963. In 1964 he opened another Conoco
 station on University in Centennial, Colorado. Verlan and Mary Lou 
bought a home in Centennial in 1969. James Craig was born July 27, 1970,
 completing their family.
 Verlan enjoyed hunting deer and elk, fishing, riding horses and 
traveling. He took the family on many adventures across the United 
States in a motorhome. He was an active member of the Littleton Optimist
 Club, spending many hours volunteering his time to earn funds to 
support their many charities. He served as the club President and 
Lieutenant Governor for the Colorado/Wyoming district from 1975-76.
 Verlan is preceded in death by his wife Mary Lou; his parents Vernon
 and Mabel; his sisters Arlene (Dale) Jones and Ethel (Jourdan) Mattke; 
brothers: Glen, Harold Lee and Doyle; and daughter-in- law Kay Bell.
 He is survived by his four children: Leslie, Debbie (Kjell) Snemyr, 
Diana (Don) Missel and Jim; five grandchildren: Bobby Anderson, LeAnne 
(Arlo) Padilla, Kristi (Janak) Garg, Erik Snemyr and Stephanie Missel; 
four great grandchildren: Mirabai and Kiran Garg, Hayden Snemyr, and 
Grayson Padilla; one brother Jerry (Rena) Bell, lots of special nieces,

James C. Jennings, 82, passed away on November 15, 2021, in Kearney, NE. 
 He was born on September 29, 1939, in rural Sheridan County to William 
and Mamie (Fiala) Jennings.
 James grew up on a wheat farm near Dresden, KS and graduated from 
DCHS in 1957 and McCook Community College in 1959. James married 
Delores (Dimond) Chancellor on July 2, 1960, at the Oberlin Covenant 
Church. He then graduated from Gulf Coast Bible College with a 
Bachelor of Theology.
 His first ministry was in Anthony, KS from 1964 - 1974 and then they
 moved to Mountain Grove, MO from 1974 – 1987, then to Littleton, CO 
from 1987 – 1997. Then he retired from the ministry and moved back to 
Oberlin. He spent several years working in the meat dept at Raye's 
Grocery. In his spare time he loved gardening, fishing, and traveling.
 James is survived by his sons; Clinton (Cathy) Jennings of 
Greenfield, IN and Christopher Jennings of Sparks, NV, daughter; 
Christina (Terry) Coalter of Saint Joseph, MO, sisters; Betty Carlton 
and Nadean Stoney, grandchildren; Corbin Jennings and Corina Jennings 
and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 
wife, Delores, and brother Lawrence Jennings.

James C. Jennings

John David Hein, 74, died November 15, 2021, at Clara Barton Hospital,
 Hoisington, Kansas. He was born on June 5, 1947, in Great Bend, Kansas,
 to David &amp; Elvina (Michaelis) Hein. John was united in marriage to 
Julie Ann Hester on October 15, 1972.

A lifetime Hoisington resident, John graduated from Hoisington High 
School Class of 1965 and attended Beauty Academy in Great Bend and was a
 licensed cosmetologist. After graduating cosmetology school, John and 
his twin brother, Don, were co-owners of Hair Fashion Salon. Shortly 
after opening the salon, John was called to serve his country. He served
 as a corpsman in a Korean MASH unit during the Vietnam War. John began 
working at Dillons in Great Bend in 1974 and was retired from there in 
2011 after 36 1/2 years.

As a lifetime member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, he served on the 
church council and was the church organist for 53 years. John began a 
long career in cake decorating in 1979 for his twin brother’s wedding 
cake. Over the years, countless cakes were made for family and friends 
throughout the region and as far away as Norman, Oklahoma.

John is survived by wife Julie and daughter Joelle Hein-Jacobs; two 
grandchildren, Jensen Jacobs and Jozie Jacobs, both of Great Bend; 
sister-in-law, Sheila Hein, and brother and sister-in-laws, Peter 
Hester, Jayme Walker, Joni Rowl and husband Dennis, Janelle Ross and 
friend Bill Koonce; numerous nieces and nephews, Shawn (Jenn) Hein, 
Courtney (Fred Shofler) Walker, Thomas (Jenny) Walker, Jason (Darcy) 
Rowl and family, Ryan (Heather) Rowl and family, Andrew (Whitney) Rowl 
and family, Kyle (Sarah Schulte) Rowl, Jackie (James) Mayonado and 
family.

He was preceded in death by and his parents, a twin brother, Don Hein, and nephew, Douglas Hein.

Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 18, 
2021, with family to greet friends from 6 to 8p.m. A Prayer service will
 begin at 7 p.m., all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home

Betty Lou (Geyer) Baker, age 90, passed away on Saturday, November 
13, 2021, at Wichita County Hospital Leoti, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born on 
August 26, 1931, at the Family Homestead on the White Woman Creek in 
Wichita County, Kansas, the daughter of Elmer and Lola (Coffman) Geyer.&nbsp;
 Betty graduated from Wichita County High School in 1949 and was a 
homemaker.

She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Alter Society both of Marienthal, Kansas.

Betty enjoyed spending time with her family, being a farm wife, 
growing flowers, baking, playing cards, and traveling.&nbsp; In her travels, 
she visited Malaysia, Japan, Germany, Washington DC, Hawaii, Canada, and
 many other places.&nbsp; She enjoyed amusement parks and a roller coaster 
always put a smile on her face.

On November 22, 1949, she married Louis Joseph Baker at the St. Mary’s
 Catholic Church, Marienthal, Kansas.&nbsp; He passed away on February 18, 
2014 in Leoti, Kansas.

She is survived by her seven children: Maurita (Jim) Koerperich of 
Garden City,&nbsp; Steve (Janice) Baker of Marienthal, Melvin (Carlotta) 
Baker of Marienthal, Kenny (Sherri) Baker of Scott City, Tammy (Scott) 
Martin of Holcomb, Lori (Major) Graff of Marienthal, and Michael 
(Aileen) Baker of Walnut Creek, California; 20 grandchildren, 41 
great-grandchildren, sister Norma Lee (Howard) Siebert of Sharon 
Springs, Kansas, and sister-in-laws Sharon Geyer of Shadow Hills, 
California, Nellie Scheffe of Marienthal, and Theresa Baker of Colby, 
Kansas.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter-in-law

Christy Jess Timmons, 69, passed away Friday, November 12, 2021, in Lebanon, Kansas. Christy was born on August 18, 1952, in Smith Center, KS, the son of Donald Eugene and Roma Kathleen (Williams) Timmons. He
 was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Stevie, Jay Don 
and Johnny Lee Timmons, and a sister Rhonda Smith-Timmons. 
Christy is survived by a daughter, Kailah J. (significant other Charles 
Stewart Whitney) Timmons of Smith Center; a grandson, Charles Rowan 
Whitney of Smith Center; a brother Clark (Nancy) Timmons of Smith 
Center, three sisters, Starlyn (Paul) Coupland of Hinton, IA, Roe Jene 
Timmons and Angela Timmons both of Smith Center. Funeral
 services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 20, 2021, at All
 Faiths Funeral Chapel, 113 S. Madison St., Smith Center, KS, with 
Pastor Lance McDowell officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 
a.m. until service time Saturday, November 20, 2021, at the funeral 
chapel.

Memorials may be given to Christy J. Timmons Memorial Fund and 
can be sent in care of the funeral chapel.&nbsp;
