"Jake" Jacob Joseph Mans, 65, of Osborne, KS, passed away on Sunday, 
November 28, 2021 at his home. &nbsp;He was born on March 13, 1956 to Leonard
 &amp; Rita Ann (Eilert) Mans in Smith Center, KS. &nbsp;Jake was one of 
several &nbsp;children born to Leonard &amp; Rita Mans.

He graduated from Osborne High School in 1974. &nbsp;He attended 2 years 
at Vo-Tech school. &nbsp;He has lived all his life in the Osborne area. &nbsp;He 
was a faithful member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church &amp; was a 
member of the Knights of Columbus.

Jake married Carla &amp; to this union 3 children were born. &nbsp;Jake &amp; Carla later divorced.

He worked 10 years for the City of Osborne, 3 years for Osborne 
County &amp; before his retirement, he worked at Osborne Industries&nbsp;in 
the Assembly Department.

Jake was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by sons: Joe (Megan)&nbsp;of Osborne; Nick (Julie) of 
Wilsey, KS; daughter: Kylie (Brent) Corwin of Osborne; sisters: Mary 
(Terry) Gantz of Concordia, KS; Anna Marie Eck of Osborne; Janet Princ 
of Luray, KS; brother: Marvin (Carla) Mans of Osborne; Close Companion:

Jacob 'Jake' Joseph Mans

Nancy Ann (Hickert) Kreutzer, 69, of Overland Park, KS, died on November 28, 2021, of complications from cancer. 
 Nancy was born on July 7, 1952, to Bernard “Barney” and Beatrice 
“Tucky” (Schandler) Hickert of Lenora, KS. In high school, Nancy 
brought excellence to each of her endeavors. She was a cheerleader, 
twirler in the marching band, and valedictorian. When Nancy wasn’t 
caring for her many younger siblings on the family farm, she worked 
part-time at the local diner where she discovered her future husband 
Joe’s interest when he tipped her 50 cents for a 10 cent Coke. 
 After graduating from Lenora High School in 1970, Nancy continued 
her education in Wichita, KS, obtaining a registered nursing degree and 
then an accounting degree from Wichita State University summa cum laude.
 In Wichita, Nancy worked at St. Joseph Medical Center, Koch 
Industries, and most recently for many years as the business manager at 
St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church of Andover. 
 Nancy married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life 
Joseph “Joe” Kreutzer, on June 1, 1974, in New Almelo, KS. Nancy was 
welcomed with love into the big-hearted, lively, expansive Kreutzer 
family. It was always a party, with everyone welcome, at Nancy and 
Joe’s home in Wichita. Nancy and Joe welcomed their beloved daughter 
Katherine Ann “Kate” on March 20, 1983. Kate brought joy to each day of
 Joe and Nancy’s lives. They treasured every moment until Joe’s 
premature death in 1985. 
 Nancy had an impeccable eye for beauty, decorating her home with 
creativity each holiday and sharing her inspired interior design style 
with her family and friends. She shared a close friendship over many 
decades with a group of dear friends, who met one another via their 
shared love of books. Nancy and her “Book Club Ladies” were true 
blessings in one another’s lives, whether discussing books, solving the 
problems of the world over brunch each Saturday, or decorating community
 homes to raise funds for the Lord’s Diner. She was a lifelong learner 
with varied and expansive interests in nature, art, science, politics, 
literature, and philosophy. 
 With her warmth, easy smile and ready wit, time with Nancy was a joy
 and a gift. Nancy was distinguished by her fearless optimism and 
ability to find beauty, goodness, and something to celebrate in each 
moment and person. Her personal hardships and losses deepened her 
empathy. Her thoughtfulness, kindness and wisdom made each of her 
acquaintances feel understood and loved. 
 Nancy lived in Wichita until moving to Overland Park in 2016, where 
she lavished love and attention on her beautiful granddaughters Maddy 
and Emily. She was an enthusiastic supporter of every aspect of their 
daily lives, from school pickup to the annual Halloween parade to 
special outings for tea, made special with hats for all. She was 
excited to celebrate each of their interests, from completing sudokus 
and “organizing” with Maddy to assisting Emily with Tinkertoys and 
Legos, to chair badminton with both. Nancy had limitless patience with 
her granddaughters, answering all questions with careful consideration 
and wisdom. Nancy also shared her many interests with them, from 
reading to art to nature. When they weren’t able to be physically 
together, Nancy would spend hours reading books to her granddaughters 
over FaceTime - and Nancy always made time for hugs and words of love. 
 Nancy was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, 
aunt, and friend. All of her siblings and many extended family were 
with her during her final days. She passed peacefully at sunset, 
surrounded by many who loved her and holding her daughter’s hand.
 Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Joseph “Joe” Kreutzer, 
her father Bernard “Barney” Hickert, mother Beatrice “Tucky” (Schandler)
 Hickert, and brother Stephen “Steve” Hickert.
 Survivors include her daughter Katherine “Kate”, her son-in-law 
Nicholas “Nick” Zluticky, and her two granddaughters Madolyn and Emily 
Zluticky, of Overland Park, KS; her siblings and in-laws Jody Hickert, 
Susan &amp; Scott Brown, Beatrice &amp; Ron Heikes, B.J. and Barb 
Hickert, Joseph and Gail Hickert, Dianne and George Witwer, Maureen and

Nancy Ann (Hickert) Kreutzer

Dennis LeRoy Boese, 72, died November 30, 2021, at Clara Barton 
Hospital, Hoisington.&nbsp; He was born September 20, 1949, in LaCrosse, 
Kansas, the son of Wilbert W. and Gwendolyn M. (Norman) Boese. Dennis 
graduated from Hoisington High School.&nbsp; He was a Vietnam veteran serving
 with the United States Marine Corps from 1967- 1969.&nbsp; He later decided 
to reenlist with the United States Army.

Dennis was a truck driver, a job he loved, often on the road anywhere
 from North Dakota to Texas. He most recently hauled wind turbine blades
 for American Wind under Denton Heavy Haulers. He was a member of the 
V.F.W. Post #3111 of Great Bend.

Survivors include three children; Jimmy Boese (Marissa) of Castle 
Rock, CO; Nicole Potter (Michael) of Hutchinson, and Holly Boese of 
Hays; a brother, David L. Boese; and a sister, Diana Wilson (Richard), 
all of Susank; 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis LeRoy Boese, Jr. and a daughter, Amy Lynn Boese.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m., Monday, December 6, 2021, at 
Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with Pastor Don Fisher presiding. 
Inurnment will follow in Browns Grove Cemetery, Burdette, Kansas.

Phillipsburg resident Connie Jo Springer, age 67, passed away Friday, October 29th, 2021, at the Hays Medical Center, Hays, KS.

Connie was born August 18, 1954, in Manhattan, KS the daughter of Don and Bonnie (Sowell) Springer.

Survivors include her friend Merlyn Schick of Phillipsburg; brothers 
Russell of Manhattan, Jesse of Topeka, Ronald of Manhattan, a sister Joy
 Burgess of Manhattan; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Donald.

Cremation was planned.&nbsp; Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. 
Saturday, December 4, 2021, at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, 
Phillipsburg. &nbsp;The Inurnment will follow in the St. Peter’s Cemetery,

Robert 'Bob' Munyon

Douglas Alan Press was born in Hays, Kansas, December 16, 1949. He 
was the favorite son of Lorne George and Oneita Ruth (Tuttle) Press. He 
died Friday, November 26, 2021, from a farm accident. 
He was blessed to grow up in the Quinter community with two parents, two
 sisters, his grandparents, and 22 first cousins. It was a time when 
childhood friendships lasted a lifetime.

Doug attended the Quinter schools where in high school he was active 
in football, basketball, chorus, band, and he played the guitar. 
Weekends could be spent working on cars with friends at his dad’s body 
shop or at Cedar Bluff skiing behind his dad’s homemade boat Tiny Mite. 
In the winter, he and his cousins ice skated down the Hackberry for 
miles. He worked at the Bob Leighton farm and there he learned about 
rodeoing. The love of such lasted a lifetime.

He was baptized on Easter Sunday April 22, 1962, in the Quinter 
Church of the Brethren. The church has held services for his 
grandparents and parents' funerals, his sister’s baptisms, his 
children’s baptisms, his two daughters' weddings, and now full circle 
his own memorial service.

Doug attended one year at FHSU, and two years at Colby Juco where he 
graduated in 1971 with an associate’s degree. At both colleges he was in
 their Rodeo Club and Choraleers. He rode bulls and barebacks, and had a
 beautiful tenor voice. Doug was in college at Colby when he learned a 
hard lesson, not all horses can swim.

It was in Colby, KS, in 1971, where a Quinter cowboy met a 
Phillipsburg drama major named Marcia Poague. They were married on 
August 12, 1972, in Phillipsburg, KS. Their marriage lasted 49 years, 3 
months, and 14 days. They were blessed with Callie Lynn, Megan Rae, and 
Garret Alan Press. Soon after Callie was born, Doug was asked to come 
back to Quinter and work for his neighbor Merton Ikenberry. Doug helped 
build their home, which was just a quarter of a mile from where he grew 
up. He and Marcia moved in in April of 1979. They were kept busy with 
their children in school sports, scouting, church activities, family 
gatherings, and spending time at Cedar Bluff.

In 1981, he bought Press Construction from Francis Jamison, and he 
and his son, Garret, worked together off and on until 2012, thirty-one 
years. During this time, they worked many jobs with Von Tuttle of Aqua 
Pump and his son Tanner; they even had a water softener business 
together. Even though semi-retired, Doug and Garret continued to dig 
graves for Gove County making that total 40 years.

He loved hunting, and going elk hunting with friends was a thrill. As
 much as he loved hunting, he loved ‘retelling’ the stories as much. "He
 was a USD 293 bus driver twice totaling over 22 years. Doug and his 
friend Dave Unruh started the PU Cattle Company in 1986 and they and 
their kids worked together for years. He was the Gove County Clerk from 
2013-2017, was on the Baker Township Board for over 20 years, and 
recently joined the Gove County Endowment Foundation.

Doug was registered with the Coronado Area Council Boy Scouts of 
America from 1990-2014. During that time he served in many positions, 
Cubmaster and Scoutmaster for Troop 164, and held several District jobs.
 During the time he was registered with Coronado, he had his hand, in 
one way or another, of helping 32 scouts in Troop 164 receive the 
highest award in Scouting, the Eagle Scout. Of course he started this 
venture and saw fruition in it in his own son, Garret.

Doug and Marcia are blessed to have 8 grandchildren and one great 
grandson. Watching them over the past 22 years play in sports, in 4-H 
shows (saw many grand champions), birthday parties, and graduations, all
 has kept them very busy.

Lately, his idea of fun was solitaire and Nex Tech Classifieds. His 
health took a toll on his body, every waking moment was filled with 
pain. This year was extraordinary in the fact that the family all got 
together more than usual. A great-grandson was born. If there’s any 
comfort in losing a loved one, the family knows his last moments were 
spent doing what he loved, working around the yard in big equipment.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of the home, Marcia; Callie (Jeff) 
Brawner, Megan (Spencer) Herrman, and Garret Alan Press; grandchildren 
Bailey (Kendell) Born, Brooke and BrieAnn Brawner, Jaide, Scarlett, and 
Adaline Herrman; Brigham Alan and Nelly Press; great grandson Stetson 
Alan Born; sisters Marsha (Gary) Lang and Kendra (Roy) Delzeit; 20 
nieces and nephews; Aunts Roma Tuttle, Jan Reeder, and Marilyn (Dave) 
Johnson; great and great great nieces and nephews; cousins, and friends.

‘Til we meet again and we will, thank you Jesus!

Funeral service will be on December 3, 2021, 10:00 a.m. at the Church
 of the Brethren, Quinter, Kansas.&nbsp; Visitation will be held at the 
church on Thursday, December 2, 2021 from 5-7 p.m.

 sisters, his grandparents, and 22 first cousins. It was a time when 
childhood friendships lasted a lifetime.Doug attended the Quinter schools where in high school he was active 
in football, basketball, chorus, band, and he played the guitar. 
Weekends could be spent working on cars with friends at his dad’s body 
shop or at Cedar Bluff skiing behind his dad’s homemade boat Tiny Mite. 
In the winter, he and his cousins ice skated down the Hackberry for 
miles. He worked at the Bob Leighton farm and there he learned about 
rodeoing. The love of such lasted a lifetime.He was baptized on Easter Sunday April 22, 1962, in the Quinter 
Church of the Brethren. The church has held services for his 
grandparents and parents' funerals, his sister’s baptisms, his 
children’s baptisms, his two daughters' weddings, and now full circle 
his own memorial service.Doug attended one year at FHSU, and two years at Colby Juco where he 
graduated in 1971 with an associate’s degree. At both colleges he was in
 their Rodeo Club and Choraleers. He rode bulls and barebacks, and had a
 beautiful tenor voice. Doug was in college at Colby when he learned a 
hard lesson, not all horses can swim.It was in Colby, KS, in 1971, where a Quinter cowboy met a 
Phillipsburg drama major named Marcia Poague. They were married on 
August 12, 1972, in Phillipsburg, KS. Their marriage lasted 49 years, 3 
months, and 14 days. They were blessed with Callie Lynn, Megan Rae, and 
Garret Alan Press. Soon after Callie was born, Doug was asked to come 
back to Quinter and work for his neighbor Merton Ikenberry. Doug helped 
build their home, which was just a quarter of a mile from where he grew 
up. He and Marcia moved in in April of 1979. They were kept busy with 
their children in school sports, scouting, church activities, family 
gatherings, and spending time at Cedar Bluff.In 1981, he bought Press Construction from Francis Jamison, and he 
and his son, Garret, worked together off and on until 2012, thirty-one 
years. During this time, they worked many jobs with Von Tuttle of Aqua 
Pump and his son Tanner; they even had a water softener business 
together. Even though semi-retired, Doug and Garret continued to dig 
graves for Gove County making that total 40 years.He loved hunting, and going elk hunting with friends was a thrill. As
 much as he loved hunting, he loved ‘retelling’ the stories as much. "He
 was a USD 293 bus driver twice totaling over 22 years. Doug and his 
friend Dave Unruh started the PU Cattle Company in 1986 and they and 
their kids worked together for years. He was the Gove County Clerk from 
2013-2017, was on the Baker Township Board for over 20 years, and 
recently joined the Gove County Endowment Foundation.Doug was registered with the Coronado Area Council Boy Scouts of 
America from 1990-2014. During that time he served in many positions, 
Cubmaster and Scoutmaster for Troop 164, and held several District jobs.
 During the time he was registered with Coronado, he had his hand, in 
one way or another, of helping 32 scouts in Troop 164 receive the 
highest award in Scouting, the Eagle Scout. Of course he started this 
venture and saw fruition in it in his own son, Garret.Doug and Marcia are blessed to have 8 grandchildren and one great 
grandson. Watching them over the past 22 years play in sports, in 4-H 
shows (saw many grand champions), birthday parties, and graduations, all
 has kept them very busy.Lately, his idea of fun was solitaire and Nex Tech Classifieds. His 
health took a toll on his body, every waking moment was filled with 
pain. This year was extraordinary in the fact that the family all got 
together more than usual. A great-grandson was born. If there’s any 
comfort in losing a loved one, the family knows his last moments were 
spent doing what he loved, working around the yard in big equipment.“...absent from the body, and at home with the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 5:8)Doug was preceded in death by his parents.Survivors include his wife of the home, Marcia; Callie (Jeff)

Norman was born April 15, 1939&nbsp;to Ephraim Lawrence Parker and Eunice Margaret (Perdue) Parker, he attended St Joseph's Military school. In his senior year he joined the Air Force where he earned his&nbsp;high school diploma. Following his career in the Air Force, he moved to Chicago working as a cook where he was recognized as a master chef in the area. As a long-haul truck driver, he logged many miles across the lower 48 states in a lengthy career enjoying all the wonderful scenery our great country offers. While married to Phyllis Lorraine Gilbert, he had four cherished children: Dan, Teri, Tina, and Charlie. He was a proud Grandfather to Branden, Ryan, Heather, Kayla, Steven, Tara, Dustin, Alex, and Jordan and a Great Grandfather to Seth, Matthew, Charlee, Trinity, Nicholas, Andrew, Destinee, Natalee, Mason, and Dustin. He was loved by many and will be missed dearly by the Parkers’ and others who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his older brothers Thomas and Eddie of Hays KS, Charles of Englewood CO, his ex-wife Phyllis, and his son Charlie of Denver CO.

Barbara Ann (Bauer) Schadel-Kropp, 79, passed away November 30, 2021, at Country Living of Larned.

She was born July 18, 1942, in Pawnee County, the daughter of Robert 
A. and Lucile G. Rucker Bauer. She was a Registered Nurse for 30 years 
working for the V.A. in San Diego and Martinez, California and Denver, 
Colorado.

She was of the Christian Faith.&nbsp; She graduated from Burdett High 
School in 1960; attended a business college in Hutchison, Kansas; and 
later in life she obtained her nursing degree in California.&nbsp; After 
retiring in 2007 she volunteered for hospice at local hospitals.&nbsp; She 
enjoyed traveling and hiking and loved her animals and her family.&nbsp;

In June of 1961, she married Orel A. Schadel Jr., they had four 
children; they later divorced in January of 1978; in 1982, she married 
Bob Kropp in San Diego, California, they later divorced.

Survivors include; four children, Traci (Daniel) Nuckolls, Burdett; 
Trudi (Rod) Eldridge, Larned; Tonya Schadel, Larned and Steven Schadel, 
Denver, Colorado; three siblings, Connie Ellis, San Carlos, California, 
Edward Bauer, Burdett and Randy (Linda) Bauer, Fairbury, Nebraska; 
eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren, one on the way and 
various nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by; her parents and a son-in-law Tom Seltmann.

Cremation has taken place with a memorial service at a later date.&nbsp;

married Van William Cloyd Jr. in 1959.&nbsp; To this union were born Jackie, 
Rodney and Tony. 
 
Nancy worked as a secretary for Kansas Claims until her retirement, then
 she worked at the Super 8 front desk.&nbsp; She enjoyed spending time with 
her children and grandchildren, keeping up with her family and friends 
on Facebook. 
 
Preceding her in death were her parents, and siblings Lyman, Marion, Rex, Evelyn, Duane and Glenn (Sam).

Betty R. White, 97, of LaGrange Park, Illinois and former Russell 
County resident, died on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at the Plymouth Place
 Senior Living Community in La Grange Park, Illinois.

Betty was born on June 19, 1924, in Paradise, Kansas, the daughter of
 Joseph R. and Julia B. (Cobb) Hubbard.&nbsp; She grew up in the Paradise and
 Waldo area, and graduated from Waldo High School. &nbsp;&nbsp;Betty married 
Robert W. Lake August 7, 1942.&nbsp; A daughter, Rebecca, was adopted in July
 1949 and in late 1950 Betty and Bob adopted two sisters, Frankie and 
Dorothy. In early 1960, due to her health, the family moved to Mesa and 
shortly after Scottsdale, Arizona. &nbsp;Betty lived in Scottsdale for over 
47 years. &nbsp;Betty and Bob divorced in 1964.&nbsp; Betty worked as a dental 
assistant for years and in June 1968 married Virgil Unsworth. Betty then
 started managing apartment complexes around the Scottsdale area with 
Virgil doing the maintenance work. Virgil died of a heart attack 
November 1986. Betty continued to work managing apartment complexes and 
in January 1988 married Lt. Colonel William White.&nbsp; They enjoyed their 
life together traveling to visit places around the world where William 
was stationed throughout his long Air Force career.&nbsp; William died for 
Alzheimer’s in December 2003. &nbsp;

In 2008, Betty moved to the Chicago area to Plymouth Place to be with
 her daughter Dr. Rebecca Lake. Together, they enjoyed traveling, 
vacation cruises, various entertainment venues around the Chicago area, 
and watching the Cubs.&nbsp;

Surviving family includes her daughters Dr. Rebecca S. Lake of 
Westchester, Illinois; Frankie Bland and family of Luray, Kansas; and 
Dorothy Lake of Mesa, Arizona.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph R. and Julia B. 
(Cobb) Hubbard, older sister Peggy Paramore, younger sister Donna Princ,
 brother Joseph E. Hubbard and her special friend Marjorie Palmer Green.

Cremation has been selected by the family and a private burial of 
ashes will take place at the Luray City Cemetery at a later date.&nbsp; 
Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the 
arrangements.

Ramona “Mony” Ann (Bieker) Stupka passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at Citizens Medical Center in Colby. 
She was born September 13, 1939, to Theodore and Leona (Billinger) 
Bieker in WaKeeney, Kansas. She grew up in Victoria and Colby and 
attended Colby High School. Throughout her school years, Mony enjoyed 
cheerleading and serving her friends and the community while working at 
the drug store and Rainbow Drive-Inn. 
On February 17, 1958, she married Louis Ernest “Sonny” Stupka at Sacred 
Heart Catholic Church in Colby. The couple had two sons, Dustan and Tab 
and a daughter, Melinda. 
Throughout her life, Mony held many positions, but none fulfilled her as
 much as her fifteen years driving school bus for USD 315. Along with 
her husband Sonny, Mony enjoyed horses, trail rides, camping and 
spending time with her grandchildren. As time passed, Mony would often 
find herself on social media analyzing current events while proudly 
admiring and enjoying the events of her children, grandchildren, other 
family and friends. 
Ramona is proceeded in death by both of her parents; her husband, Sonny;
 her son, Tab and two brothers, Chris and Vernon Bieker. 
Survivors include daughter Melinda and husband Lindle Harold and 
grandson Kyle (Christina and Teghan Rosendahl) of Colby; son Dustan and

Jimmy was born October 26, 1950, in Abilene, Kansas, the son of 
Harold Dean and Mary Ella (Johnson) Dalton.&nbsp; He was a lifelong resident 
of Rush County, Kansas, and Barton County, Kansas.&nbsp; Jimmy cleaned homes 
for private individuals before his retirement.

Survivors include:&nbsp; one son, Curtis Dalton (Kandi Engel), Bison,

Patty Louise Herrman, age 63, of Hays, Kansas passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021, at Hays Medical Center. She was born May 2, 1958, in Hill City, Kansas to Virgil and Mary (Metheny) Deringer. She attended school in Goodland, Kansas and earned a bachelor’s degree from Fort Hays State University. On July 9, 1988, she married Leland Herrman in LaCrosse, Kansas. Patty was an auditor for the Department of Education for 33 years. Patty was very involved with her family and particularly her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Leland of Hays; a daughter, Terra Niehoff and husband Brandon of Shawnee, Kansas; three sisters, Jo Ann Deringer of Denver, Colorado, Doris Luna of New Braunfels, Texas and Betty Flanagan of Peoria, Arizona as well as two grandchildren, Emma Osborne and Jace Niehoff. Donald Max Sheldon

Loretta Carolyn Ray (Carolyn) age 82, passed away on Saturday, 
November 20th at Scott County Hospital.&nbsp; She was born in Tribune Ks on 
October 25, 1939, to Willy C and Lulanell Dealy Ray.&nbsp; She was the 
youngest of 3 girls, Retha Roena Ray Hubbs, &nbsp;and Lorene Ray Giesick.&nbsp; 
Carolyn attended school in Greeley County where she graduated and went 
on to college at Hays University where she studied to be a radiology 
technician. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Carolyn then went on to Kansas City to do her clinical rotations at 
St Joseph Hospital. &nbsp;Carolyn worked there for a few years and then went 
to work for a group for physicians Dr. Bakey and Dr. Gentrey where they 
became a close nit family. &nbsp;She worked there as RAD Tech, a phlebotomist
 as well as cleaned the office until she retired after 35 years of 
service. &nbsp;Carolyn loved to help people and enjoyed being with friends. 
&nbsp;She had a bar for a few years in Kansas City named the WindJammer where
 she met many friends. &nbsp;Carolyn was a caregiver when she left Kansas 
City in early 2000 and moved to western Kansas to help with her older 
sister's care Retha who had Alzheimer’s.

Carolyn left there and moved to Oklahoma to help her best friend in 
life Betty and her sister Mary with their ailing mother Wanette Pistole.
 When Wanette passed on Betty and Carolyn moved back to Kansas City 
where Carolyn stayed and cared for Betty when she became ill. &nbsp;After 
Betty passed &nbsp;Carolyn moved to Scott City Ks in 2016 where she could be 
closer to her nephew and niece, Rick and Kody Rogers, and family. 
&nbsp;Carolyn enjoyed her weekly get-together with friends and family, where 
she always beat everyone at marbles even though she was legally blind.&nbsp; 
She loved collecting anything that had to do with wolves, spending time 
with family and friends, and caring for people. &nbsp;

Carolyn surviving family includes - 6 nieces and nephews and their 
spouses: Dennis Hubbs of Saratoga, Wyoming, Penny and Albert Twomey of 
Wright, Wyoming,&nbsp;Jana and Neal Raider of Richmond, Virginia, Kim and 
Georgia Hubbs of Templeton, California, Tim and Sam Giesick of Leoti, 
and Kody and Rick Rogers&nbsp;of Scott City many great-nieces and nephews. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Carolyn's wishes were to be cremated and her ashes spread with her 
older sister Retha and her brother-in-law Dale in Wyoming.&nbsp; There will 
be a private memorial in Wyoming in July for family and friends where 
Carolyn, Retha, and Dale’s lives will be celebrated. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Memorial In Lieu of Flowers may be written to the American Cancer Association.

Lifelong resident of St Francis, Ilone Mary Ketter, age 102, passed 
away early Wednesday morning November 24, 2021 at the Rawlins&nbsp;County 
Health Center.&nbsp; She was born May 4, 1919 to Nick and Merle (Bretthauer) 
Oster on a farm southeast of Wheeler, Kansas.

Shortly after she was born, she moved with her parents and older 
sister Leone to a small farm southeast of St Francis.&nbsp; Two younger 
sisters, Doris and Carole were born there. She attended school through 
8th grade at Sunny Ridge District 44 and high school in St Francis, 
graduating with the class of 1938.&nbsp; She married Celestine (Sally) Ketter
 on August 10, 1938, in St Francis.&nbsp; The newlyweds made their home in St
 Francis, where their first child was born. Shortly after they purchased
 a farm southeast of St Francis, where their family continued to grow.&nbsp; 
Within 10 years the family was complete when twins “unexpectedly” 
brought the number of children to six, three girls and three boys that 
all attended the same country school and high school as their mother.&nbsp; 
Ilone an excellent cook, baked a cake or cookies nearly every day before
 packing school lunches, and would make a meal for her growing family 
and any unexpected guests at a moment’s notice, from whatever she had on
 hand.

After her children were grown, she launched a new career as an 
employee and businesswoman.&nbsp; She worked at the Good Samaritan Village 
for a short time, then began cooking at the Wheel Inn Cafe and 
eventually became owner.&nbsp; Later, she purchased Daylight Donut Shop in St
 Francis which she operated until the death of Celestine in 1979.&nbsp; Over 
the years, Ilone participated in BPW and chamber of commerce 
activities.&nbsp; After retirement she enjoyed traveling, playing bingo and 
cards, volunteering at the senior center as a cook, the thrift store 
cashier, and cards with residents at the Good Samaritan Village.&nbsp; She 
was a active member of the St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and 
Christian Mother’s Alter Society, and known to bake for many benefits 
and food sales.&nbsp; Ilone remained in her own home and loved looking 
forward to visits with friends and family.&nbsp;

She is survived by her children: Connie Johnson of Liberal; Karen 
(Vernon) Isaac of Goodland; Kenneth (Sherryl) Ketter of Kanorado; Gary 
Ketter of Dayton, OH; Sherry (Don) Gilliland of Bird City; 18 
grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; 
and a host of family and friends.

Kathleen Holloway, 93, of Osborne, KS passed away at&nbsp;home on 
Saturday, November 27, 2021. &nbsp;She was born on March 21, 1928, in Lebanon,
 KS to Jessie Elmer &amp; Lela Maude Davis.

She graduated from Alton High School in 1946. &nbsp;While she was in Alton, she worked at the Post Office for a while.

Kathleen met Billy Don Holloway &amp; they were later married. &nbsp;To this union, 3 children were born.

She moved to Osborne in 1968. &nbsp;While she was a busy mother of 3, she 
was a retail clerk for the&nbsp;local Duckwalls &amp; the Donut Shop. 
&nbsp;Kathleen attended the United Christian Church of Osborne.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Billy Don
 Holloway on February 1, 2008,&nbsp;1 son, Ron Holloway in 1999 &amp; 1 
grandchild.

She&nbsp;is survived by 1&nbsp;son: Brian Holloway of Osborne, KS; 1 daughter: 
Linda Goodale of Denver, CO; 4 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; 2

John L. Waelchli, 79, of McCracken, Kansas, passed away Friday, November 26th, at his home.

John was born July 9th, 1942, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of John and Laverne Waelchli.

He grew up in Ohio and graduated from Boardman High School in 1960.

He joined the US Navy in 1960 and served for 6 years.

On September 5th, 1970, he married Carol J. Benjamin who preceded him
 in death on April 3rd, 2020. &nbsp;They lived in California, Washington, New

He is survived by his only daughter, Dr. Jess Braun and her husband 
Curt of Hays, Kansas; grandchildren, Alec Waelchli, Isabelle Braun, 
Addie Braun, and Mabel Braun; and his two cats.

John was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and many beloved dogs and cats.

Dorothy A. "Dodie" Waiksnis, 89, formerly of Newton, passed away Saturday evening, November 27, 2021, at the UnityPoint Health Center in Marshalltown.  

   A funeral service for Dodie will be at a later date, at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, who have been entrusted with the arrangements.  Memorials are being designated to the Dodie's family or to a charity of your choosing.  {Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, facemasks will be optional, but encouraged at the services.}  

   Dodie the daughter of Arie and Hattie (Bruxvoort) Olsthoorn, was born July 25, 1923, in rural Jasper County, Iowa.  She attended rural Jasper County schools and graduated in 1949 from Kellogg High School.  After graduation she moved to California, where she met her first husband, Alvin Copelin.  Alvin passed away in 1987.

  In 1997 she married Joseph Waiksnis and they had their home in Wyoming, Arizona and Montana, before moving back to Iowa.  She worked as an accountant/bookkeeper for several local businesses.  She was a member of the ladies' auxiliary of the VFW, having held several offices, including treasurer and president.  She was a member of the Newton Christian Reformed Church.  She enjoyed bowling, horses, Pony Express and her garden. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.  

   She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Alvin Copelin; her brother Marion and a sister Harriet Van Wyk; a sister-in-law Sara Olsthoorn; a brother-in-law Walter Van Wyk; a stepson Lenny Stadtmiller.

   She is survived by her siblings Gerald (Pansy) Olsthoorn of Hays, Kansas; Ardella (John) Burr of Newton; Ruth (Ron) Graham and Harvey (Sandra) Olsthoorn of Kellogg, step-grandchildren: Dana (Andrew) Anderson of Kellogg and Andrea Lawson of Des Moines; her 7 great grandchildren: including Makatlyn and Khryssa Anderson of Kellogg.

On September 2, 1946, she married Melvin “Bob” Robert Brown in Beloit, Kansas. He preceded her in death on August 18, 2001. She was a secretary and receptionist at King Financial Services for many years. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays, a 75-year member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha the international &nbsp;community service sorority and a member of the Hays Daughters of Isabella. Genevieve is survived by her daughter, Patricia Frost and husband Wendell of Renton, Washington; sons, Roger Brown and wife Kathy of Oswego, Illinois, and Steven Brown of Hays; seven grandchildren; &nbsp;nine great grandchildren; as well as a sister, Mary Ann Roberts of Beloit. Genevieve Margaret (Smith) Brown

James Phillips “Phil” Busenbark, 89, passed away November 26, 2021, at Diversicare of Larned.

Phil was born on January 11, 1932, in Larned, the son of James Walton and Maude Ester Phillips Busenbark.

He was a lifetime area resident, a Teacher, Psychologist, Coach, and 
sports enthusiast. Phil retired as a Psychologist at the Iroquois Center
 for Human Development in Greensburg, KS at the age of 86.

On June 6, 1954, he married Meribeth Mae Turner in Belpre, KS. She survives.

Other survivors include: daughter Janet (Andrew) James, Raymore, MO; 
son Eric (Jennifer) Busenbark, Lenexa, KS; three grandsons, Phillip Dale
 James, Kansas City, MO, Elijah Turner James, Raymore, MO, and Eric 
Brandon Busenbark, Kansas City, MO; two great granddaughters, Emma James
 and Bentlee James. Phil was preceded in death by his parents, a son, 
James Phillips “Little Phil” Busenbark II, and a great grandson, Riddick
 Issac Turner James.

Family, church, and sports were Phil’s passions. He was a member of 
the First Baptist Church in Rozel, KS, served as the Rotary Club 
President in Larned, and was on the school board and church board in 
Larned and Rozel. Phil participated in various sports as he grew up, and
 was a college letterman on the track team at Fort Hays. He taught and 
coached high school basketball at Collier, KS and Rozel High Schools and
 coached the Larned Cobras girls’ fast pitch softball team. Phil 
refereed high school basketball games for years, and attended the 
National Junior College Basketball Tournament in Hutchinson, KS for more
 than thirty years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and Phil and 
Meribeth were regulars on the golf course at the Larned Country Club for
 many years. They were dedicated travelers, and enjoyed many ocean 
cruises with friends and trips to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and Branson, 
MO with family.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday December 4, 
2021, at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, with Charles “Buddy” and Judi Tabler 
presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, December 3, 
2021, with family present from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the mortuary. 
Inurnment will be in the Belpre Cemetery, Belpre, KS.

Memorials may be given to the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital 
Foundation, Fresenis Kidney Care or the American Heart Association in
