Harvey Leonard Davidson, 81, Hays, passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2021, at HaysMed after a short illness.&nbsp;

He
 was born November 5, 1940, in Columbus, Kansas, the son of Jake and Opal
 (Noel) Davidson.&nbsp; He grew up on a dairy farm in southeast Kansas.&nbsp; He 
graduated from McCune High School and McPherson College with a BS Degree
 in Industrial Arts.&nbsp; Harvey started his teaching career in Wellington, 
Kansas where he met the love of his life, Marilyn Stanton.&nbsp; They were 
united in marriage on August 16, 1964, in Dodge City, Kansas and 
celebrated 57 years of marriage.&nbsp; They taught in Wellington for five 
years where he was an industrial arts instructor and later a junior high
 school counselor.

In
 1968, he was hired by the Hays USD 489 School District as Director of 
Guidance and a full-time counselor for Hays High School.&nbsp; He received a 
Masters of Guidance and Counseling Degree from Wichita State University 
and an Educational Specialist in Guidance and Counseling Degree from 
Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; Harvey started the Hays evening GED classes
 in 1976 through 1992 and assisted a number of adults in earning a high 
school equivalency diploma.&nbsp; The Counselor’s Association named Harvey 
the Kansas Outstanding Counselor of the year in 1978.&nbsp; He was honored by
 Who’s Who Among School District Leaders in 1976 and most years through 
2007.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Harvey
 was active in the Hays Optimist Club, holding many offices, FHSU Tiger 
Club, Hays First United Methodist Church, where he was a Stephen 
Minister, a District 8 Head of the Kansas Teachers’ Hall of Fame in 
Dodge City, and on the board of Farmers Credit Union.&nbsp; He enjoyed 
attending sporting events and was an avid bowler.&nbsp; Family was very 
important to Harvey, and he was a wonderful husband, father, and 
grandfather.

Harvey
 is survived by his wife Marilyn Davidson of Hays, sons: Dr. Eric 
Davidson (Erica) and children: Claire, Corinne, Charlotte, and Calvin of
 Pittsburgh, PA and Warren Davidson (Lori) and children: Matthew and 
Tyler of Hays, two sisters: Donna Schmidt of Alamo, TX and Betsy Holland
 of Pittsburg and three brothers: Kenny Davidson (Dorothy) of McPherson,
 Carl Davidson (Diane) and Tim Davidson (Nicky) all of McCune, Kansas.

He
 was preceded in death by his parents and sisters: Ruth Clark and 
brother-in-law Ralph Clark and Doris Crumpacker and brother-in-law Glen 
Crumpacker.

A
 celebration of Harvey’s life will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 
9, 2021 at Hays First United Methodist Church.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 
1:00 pm until service time on Thursday at the church.&nbsp; Burial will 
follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.&nbsp; Memorials are suggested to the Hays

Harvey Leonard Davidson

Joe Lawrence Aragon, 65, Fort Dodge, died Sunday, December 5, 2021, at the Fort Dodge Soldiers’ Home.

He
 was born September 10, 1956, in Rocky Ford, Colorado the son of Alberto 
and Eloiza (Sandoval) Aragon.&nbsp; In 1976, he graduated from Custer County 
High School with a 4.0 GPA.&nbsp; While in high schoo,l he excelled in 
football, basketball, and as a long-distance runner.&nbsp; On August 30, 2002,&nbsp; he was united in marriage to Inez Gutierrez in Liberal.&nbsp; They later 
divorced.&nbsp; He served in the U.S. Army and Kansas Army National Guard 
with the rank of Staff Sergeant, working as a supply specialist for 22 
years.&nbsp; Joe was an avid Denver Broncos fan, loved fireworks and the 
Fourth of July, was a skilled woodworker, and was an exceptional 
handyman with repairs around the home.&nbsp; He possessed a deep love of his 
family and enjoyed time with them while cooking, fishing, camping, or at
 the park playing soccer and other sports.

Survivors
 include his five sons: Enrique Aragon of Hays, Derrick Aragon of Hays, 
Joe Aragon of Wichita, and Brandon Devon Mathis and Brooke Williams of 
Americas, GA, three daughters: Cassandra Aragon of Hays, Emilia Aragon 
of Pueblo, CO, and Elena Hayson of Pueblo, CO, a stepson: Estevan 
Gutierrez of Ohio, a brother: Frank Aragon of Commerce City, CO, four 
sisters: Clara Aragon of Glenwood Springs, CO, Gloria Aragon of Rocky 
Ford, CO, Sally Rodriguez and husband Ken and Beatrice Jones and husband
 DeShawn, all of Rocky Ford, CO, and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Margarito and Tom Aragon, and a sister: Linda Aragon.

Mass
 of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Friday, December 10, 2021, at
 Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with Fr. Elias Chinzara 
officiating. &nbsp;Burial with military honors by the Hays VFW Honor Guard 
will follow in the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, WaKeeney.&nbsp; Visitation will 
be from 9:00 am until service time with the recitation of the rosary at 
9:30 am, all on Friday at the church.&nbsp;

Joyce Ann Homm (Van Eaton)

Danny Joe Brough, 63, passed away December 4, 2021, Stormont Vail 
Hospital in Topeka. He was born on November 22, 1958, at Great Bend, to 
Robert &amp; Marian Lorene (Pedigo) Brough. He married Susan Halzle on 
February 5, 1982 at Great Bend.&nbsp;

He was a longtime employee at Moeder Oil as their propane manager. 
Danny was an IMCA official for many years. &nbsp;Danny especially loved 
spending time with his family.&nbsp;He loved taking his grandson Jordan to 
all his motocross races. He found a second family through motocross. He 
loved helping all the kids with their bikes. He was their number one 
mechanic, cheerleader and all-around supporter.&nbsp;

Survivors include, his wife, Susan Brough of the home; a son, Beau 
Brough of Great Bend and two grandsons, Jordan and Nash. He was preceded
 in death by his parents; and his brothers, Jim Brough and Gary Brough.&nbsp;

Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 
8, 2021 at Bryant Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00
 a.m., Thursday, December 9, 2021, at Golden Belt Memorial Park north of
 Great Bend, with Pastor Jay Beouy presiding. Military Rites will be 
conducted by the Army National Guard and the American Legion Riders. 
Memorials have been designated to the Clara Barton Foundation, in care 
of Bryant Funeral Home.

Phillipsburg resident, Holly J. Dinkel, age 59, passed away 
peacefully at her home following a long battle with cancer on November 
22, 2021.

She was born March 9, 1962, in Lincoln, KS the daughter of Robert and Dorothy (Starks) Hansen.

Holly was united in marriage to Jeff Dinkel on May 13, 1999, in Phillipsburg.&nbsp; He survives.

Other survivors include her two daughters Zoey and Payton; a brother 
Tim Hansen and wife Leisa of Colby, KS; other family, friends, and her 
five Great Danes.

Cremation was planned.&nbsp; A Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 18th, 2021, in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.&nbsp; <a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/category/Funeral-Service---Cemetery/Olliff-Boeve-Memorial-Chapel-158648587502325/">The services will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page.</a>&nbsp; Inurnment will take place following the services at 2:00 p.m. in the Lincoln Cemetery, Lincoln, KS.

Michael "Mike" Wayne Schuster passed away on Monday November 29th, 2021. He was a loving son, 
brother, an amazing father, and papa to his grandchildren. Mike was an 
avid hunter, golfer, fisherman, and all around outdoorsman with a 
special ability to show his love for his daughters and his 
grandchildren. 
Michael was born March 12th, 1959 in Hays, Kansas, third son of Hank and
 Phyllis (Huber) Schuster. He had two brothers, Keith and Sam. He was 
preceeded in death by his father, Hank, brother, Keith and his number 
one girl, Riley (dog). 
Mike is survived by his four strong daughters, Tina, Michelle Aiken 
(Richard), Eileen Wahlmeier (Tim), and Katie Young (Paul). Grandchildren
 Avriel Gregg, Colton Aiken, Madison and Braeden Wahlmeier, and Hunter 
and Rhett Young. He is also survived by his mom, Phyllis, brother, Sam 
and many nieces and nephews. 
Mike moved to Arvada, Colorado in 1960 with his parents and two older 
brothers. When Mike was 15 he met Darlene Fusilier and they wed on June 
2nd, 1979. They raised four girls together, Tina, Michelle, Eileen, and 
Katie. Mike and Darlene divorced in 2001. Mike would often say he had 
one true love (Darlene) and that he had messed that relationship up. He 
worked with his hands all his life, mainly in construction and was a 
true craftsman. Mike worked for Bradley Engineering &amp; Blasting 
Company for the last 30 years. He was a long time Arvada resident and 
Arvada West alum(77), where his two granddaughters are set to graduate 
from, summer (22) and summer (23). Over the past 8 years, Mike had been 
in a relationship with Sandy West. She managed to get Mike to smile in 
photos which was a difficult task. 
Mike’s true passion was hunting and telling stories about past 
adventures. He would often go on hunts with his daughters, Eileen and 
Katie. Mike was known by his hunting buddies as Mountain Goat Mike and 
Piston Legs. Mike loved the outdoors and often found relief in ballistic
 therapy, shooting clay pigeons with his daughter, Katie, and her 
husband, Paul at their home in Strasburg, Colorado. Mike loved all of 
his grandchildren and spent time with each of them every chance he 
could. Before leaving each grandchild, Mike would say “Hey, You know 
what?” and pause as he waited for their response, “What?”, then Mike 
would lovingly say “Love you, Ha!”. This memory will live on with each 
grandchild and the family. He will be greatly missed by his family and 
loved ones, but we know he is hunting with his dad and his number one 
girl, Riley. He is also partying with all his other angels that greeted 
him with open arms.

Michael ‘Mike’ Wayne Schuster 

Ethel Ella (Newell) Zrubek passed away Saturday 
November 27th, 2021, at the Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, 
Kansas. She was born on October 21st, 1945, to Alfred E. and Marie E. 
(Knipp) Newell in Hays, Kansas.

In April of 1964, she graduated from Brown Mackie School of Business 
in Salina, Kansas. She went on to work for the Salina City Court, the 
Magistrate Court, and was also employed by the Salina Police Department.

She married Larry A. Zrubek on February 24th, 1968, in Damar, Kansas. 
In 1976, she partnered with husband Larry and started Zrubek Transmission Service which was later sold.

In 1996, Ethel again went to work with husband Larry and son Gary, 
establishing Larry’s Transmission Repair thereby building another 
successful family business where she worked until her passing. Ethel’s 
greatest love was family which is reflected in her volumes of personal 
dedication to the family Genealogy.

She is proceeded in death by parents Alfred E. and Maria E. (Knipp) 
Newell, brother Maxim E. Newell, sisters Henrietta L. (Tooker), Marlene 
A. Newell, and sister-in-law Patricia J. Newell&nbsp; &nbsp;

She is survived by husband Larry A. Zrubek, sons Gary A. &amp; wife 
Laurie (Jeske) Zrubek, Michael A. &amp; Wife Becky (Lutz) Zrubek all of

November 27th, 2021, at the Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, 
Kansas. She was born on October 21st, 1945, to Alfred E. and Marie E. 
(Knipp) Newell in Hays, Kansas.In April of 1964, she graduated from Brown Mackie School of Business 
in Salina, Kansas. She went on to work for the Salina City Court, the 
Magistrate Court, and was also employed by the Salina Police Department.She married Larry A. Zrubek on February 24th, 1968, in Damar, Kansas. 
In 1976, she partnered with husband Larry and started Zrubek Transmission Service which was later sold.In 1996, Ethel again went to work with husband Larry and son Gary, 
establishing Larry’s Transmission Repair thereby building another 
successful family business where she worked until her passing. Ethel’s 
greatest love was family which is reflected in her volumes of personal 
dedication to the family Genealogy.She is proceeded in death by parents Alfred E. and Maria E. (Knipp) 
Newell, brother Maxim E. Newell, sisters Henrietta L. (Tooker), Marlene 
A. Newell, and sister-in-law Patricia J. Newell&nbsp; &nbsp;She is survived by husband Larry A. Zrubek, sons Gary A. &amp; wife 
Laurie (Jeske) Zrubek, Michael A. &amp; Wife Becky (Lutz) Zrubek all of

Alan Dean Henry, 70, passed away on November 30, 2021, in Salina, 
Kansas. He was born November 7, 1951, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Lyle and
 Betty (Poe) Henry.

Alan retired from the Coleman Company after 25 years in Wichita. He retired to the Eureka area later he moved to Salina.

He is survived by his sister Kathleen (Dean) Delaney of Dighton; 
brother Dale Henry of Hays; 2 nephews, Deone Delaney of Alamota, Justin 
(Liz) Delaney of Ness City; 6 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded 
in death by his parents; niece, Shelly (Delaney) Wesley; and nephew, 
John Henry.

Funeral Service will be Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home at 2:00 P.M.

Celestin Severin Leiker “Junior” was born to Celestin &amp; Virginia 
Leiker on June 10, 1939, just outside Wallace, KS. Junior was the 
youngest of 5 children. At the age of 5 the family moved into Wallace. 
Junior attended grade school in Wallace and high school in Sharon 
Springs. Junior played basketball in school. Junior was inducted into 
the Army Nov. 15, 1961. Junior owned and operated a tire shop and gas 
station in Wallace for 32 years. He also found time to do some farming 
which he enjoyed. Junior married Dolly Bishop on Nov. 14, 2004. Junior 
&amp; Dolly enjoyed playing golf and dancing. 
Family preceding Junior in death were his parents; sisters, Gloria Jones and Shirley Bussen and brother Roger Leiker. 
Junior is survived by his wife Dolly, of Atwood; his sons, Darrick 
Leiker (Tammy), of Goodland and Rustin Leiker, of Wallace; daughter 
Chanda Gronewoller (Frank), of Ionia, KS and grandchildren, Paige Haist 
(John) and Riley Gronewoller. Junior loved and was so proud of his 
children and grandchildren.

 the showman, the young Paul was a musician, a drum major, and, 
occasionally, the mastermind of elaborate and hilarious pranks.&nbsp; Paul was devoted to his mother and dearly loved his brothers and sisters, drawing his strength from their foundational bond.

He was a beloved Dad and Papa. Paul stepped into fatherhood at a young age.&nbsp; Raising
 four daughters is not a task for the faint of heart, and Paul not only 
willingly took up the task but embraced it with all his might.&nbsp; An
 imposing man of height, with a thick mane of hair often paired with a 
full beard, Paul was the image of a protector and provider.&nbsp; However, his children and grandchildren were granted access to the soft side of Paul.&nbsp; Whether
 he was spending hours looking for the perfect prom dress or on the golf
 course helping to find a perfect swing or in the shop teaching all 
things cars, Paul’s love for his family was undeniable.&nbsp; Traveling and experiencing the world was especially important to Paul, and he shared this with his family.&nbsp; Memories
 of trains, planes, and automobiles to all corners of the globe will 
remain as treasures to be called upon in times of aching sadness, as 
Paul was most alive when he was walking the streets of Edinburgh, 
navigating the subways of New York, or caught up in the magic of Disney.&nbsp; 

He was a beloved, pen-ultimate “Car Guy." Upon
 his graduation from Catholic Central in 1970 and a year at King’s 
College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Paul, as a child of the Motor 
City, entered the automobile business at his grandfather’s Chevrolet 
Dealership in Detroit.&nbsp; This would prove to be the beginning of a prolific life as automobile dealer and his identity as a “car guy."&nbsp; Following
 10 years under the tutelage of his grandfather, Paul left his family 
story to purchase a dealership in Hays, Kansas, and established his own 
automobile legacy.&nbsp; He has held 
Volkswagen, Porsche, Audi, Mazda and Chevrolet franchises garnering him 
many awards and accolades including the honor of being a TIME Magazine 
Quality Dealer.&nbsp; As Paul’s 
career developed, he contributed to the evolution of the automobile 
industry through his work at NADA, the National Automobile Dealer’s 
Association.&nbsp; Recognizing the 
emerging role of technology and computer information, Paul was an 
innovator, advisor, and mentor, helping many colleagues traverse the 
technological highway of the 21st century. &nbsp;Nearing
 the end of his professional life, Paul had been the proud owner-dealer 
of Orem and Bountiful Mazda and remained to his death, the President of 
Tri-Mac Automotive Advisory Group.

He was a beloved Servant Leader and Friend. Although he played the role of owner and proprietor of a family business, Paul, at heart, was always seeking to serve.&nbsp; If
 he wasn’t selling Christmas trees for the Optimist Club or serving on 
the board of a hospital or school, Paul offered a place of employment 
for people to feel a sense of purpose and connection, so that they may 
be able to care for their families and also participate in the 
community.&nbsp; His friends and community will miss his big heart, his even bigger smile, and his unwavering dedication.

He was a beloved Highland Piper. For some, Paul will be remembered as the call-in-the-middle-of-the-night-guy to solve any problem big or small.&nbsp; For others, he was always ready to round out a foursome and be a true source for clarifying the rules of the grand game of golf.&nbsp; For
 many, he will always be pictured wandering the hills of Scotland 
playing an enchanting melody on his prized, sparkling bagpipes.

Preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy, his father Lawrence, and 
two grandsons, Luke and Zach, Paul leaves behind his numerous nephews 
and nieces and their parents, his seven siblings: Margaret; Larry and 
his wife, Dorothy; Betsy and her husband and Paul’s lifelong friend, 
Fred; Mike and his wife, Lou; Chris and his partner, Annette; and Fred 
and his wife, JoEllen. Paul also leaves behind the mother of his 
children, Terri. &nbsp;He will be 
forever in the hearts of his four daughters, nine grandchildren, and the
 many generations to follow: Jenny, her husband, Christian, and two 
children, Elyse and Cian; Stacey and her daughters, Allison and Emily; 
Calley, her husband Brett, and two daughters, Claire and Chloe; and 
Shannon, her husband, Brad, and son, Callen. &nbsp;

Though his time was far too short, Paul will be forever loved.

Paul Richard MacDonald

Rural Phillipsburg resident Betty Jean McClain passed away Dec. 4, 
2021, at the age of 93.&nbsp; She was born Feb. 24, 1928, in Phillipsburg.

Survivors include her sons; Dan of rural Phillipsburg and Jerry of 
Republican City, NE; her daughter, JoAnn Hawley of Naponee, NE; her 
brother, Glen Lanman of Lexington, NE; 3 sisters, Norma Romjue of 
LaJuanta, CO, Elaine Portenier of Phillipsburg &amp; Karen Jacobson of 
Raymond, NE; 7 grandchildren &amp; 15 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 10:00 a.m. in the 
Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Tim Osborn 
officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, 
Phillips County.

Rural Phillipsburg resident Betty Jean McClain passed away Dec. 4, 
2021, at the age of 93.&nbsp; She was born Feb. 24, 1928, in Phillipsburg.Survivors include her sons; Dan of rural Phillipsburg and Jerry of 
Republican City, NE; her daughter, JoAnn Hawley of Naponee, NE; her 
brother, Glen Lanman of Lexington, NE; 3 sisters, Norma Romjue of 
LaJuanta, CO, Elaine Portenier of Phillipsburg &amp; Karen Jacobson of 
Raymond, NE; 7 grandchildren &amp; 15 great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 10:00 a.m. in the 
Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Tim Osborn 
officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery,

Betty Jean McClain

Geraldine “Gerry” Marie Nemeth, 91, of Herndon, died Friday December 3, 2021, in Atwood, Kansas. 
Gerry was born January 10, 1930, on a farm four miles northwest of 
Herndon, Kansas, to Francis and Cecilia (Lippold) Barenberg. She was the
 oldest of four children. She moved with her family into the town of 
Herndon in 1938, where she attended St. Mary’s Grade School and later 
Herndon High School, graduating as valedictorian in 1948. 
Gerry was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Herndon her entire 
life. She received her First Communion and was confirmed at St. Mary’s. 
Her first job as a young girl was helping prepare and serve meals to 
priests living in the two-story house that was located on the south side
 of the Church. After graduating high school, she worked at the grain 
elevator in Herndon. In later years she worked at Pooch’s egg plant in 
Herndon to earn money for her children’s college education. 
On the 16th of January 1951 Gerry married her lifelong love, Robert 
“Bob” Nemeth, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Bob and Gerry lived on a 
farm northeast of Ludell where they raised three children: Gary, Cheryl,
 and Rick. Bob and Gerry moved into the town of Herndon in 1988. 
In past years Gerry’s favorite hobbies were sewing and crafting. She was
 very meticulous with everything she made. She would enter items in 
craft fairs. Each holiday her house was decorated with beautiful 
home-made décor. 
Gerry enjoyed music. In their younger days she and Bob would regularly 
attend dances on Saturday nights. In more recent years she never wanted 
to miss the opportunity to watch Polka Joe or Molly B. 
Gerry’s family meant everything to her. She and Bob attended every 
activity that her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were 
involved in. If she was not able to be there in person she would watch 
or listen on the TV or radio. Gerry always wanted to be aware of what 
was going on in the lives of each grandchild and great grandchild. Every
 evening she would ask, “What did you hear from the kids today?” Her 
favorite part of moving to Atwood this past year was their frequent 
visits. The children were equally excited to see her. She always made 
sure “the goose” was filled with plenty of candy and that there were 
toys, books, movies, and puzzles for entertainment. 
Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband Bob; her parents; her 
brother Myron; her sister Janice and brother-in-law Frank Irvin; her 
son-in-law, Kenneth Timm, and her sister-in-law Hulda Frick. 
Geraldine is survived by her son Gary of Herndon; Daughter Cheryl Timm 
of Ludell; son Rick (Sheli) of Ludell; brother Eldon (Fay Ann) Barenberg
 of McCook, NE; sister-in-law Marcia Barenberg of Golden, CO;

Geraldine 'Gerry' Marie Nemeth

Larry D. Lala, Kirwin, KS, passed away on December 2, 2021, at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, KS, at the age of 84. He was born on October 2, 1937, to Theodore and Hallie (Newbrey) Lala in Hays, KS. Larry married Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Vohs on June 2, 1956, in Osborne, KS. They were blessed with two daughters: Barbara Ann and Susan Elizabeth.

Larry grew up on a farm north of Woodston and graduated from Woodston Rural High School in 1955. He started farming and ranching, the occupation he had planned since 8th grade.  He farmed with his step-dad Vernon Townley and brother Kent Townley until 1984. He continued to farm with his step-dad Vernon until his death in 1999. Larry ran a cow/calf operation, as well as a small feedlot in the early years, but his love was crop production. He loved his tractors and machinery; anything motorized or Case IH and he was very particular about their maintenance. He was a skilled mechanic, he could make or fix anything, and never missed an opportunity to teach. As he often said: “You can’t learn any younger”. Anyone who knew him knew his wardrobe consisted of Key overalls, with many tools and accessories in his front pockets (which provided the grandkids with hours of play), work boots and in the winter, floppy eared hats. 

Larry was very active in the Kirwin Lions Club being a key player in the annual Old Settler’s Day.  He was also a member of the Alton Masonic Lodge, Western Bohemian Fraternal Association, FSA Board, Bull City Saddle Club, Rural Fire Dept., and the Woodston and Ash Rock Cemetery Boards. He and Betty played cards with the Rural Life Card Group in Alton/Osborne for many years.  

Larry worked and played hard. He was busy all the time, yet he managed to always have time for everyone. In his younger years he enjoyed boating at the lake, water and snow skiing. He and Betty enjoyed dances at the Bohemian Hall dancing to the Harmony Four. The family enjoyed summer vacations to Colorado and the Dakota’s, even though Larry was most happy on the ‘knob north of Woodston’. He loved to go to the car races and demo derbies. He liked to ride motorcycles, snowmobiles, and even learned to fly an airplane, parking it in the front yard.

He and Betty were very involved in Barb’s and Susan’s activities, assisting with 4H projects	 and following them to their sporting events. When grandkids came along, he and Betty tried to attend as many of their events as they could, with Larry hitting every concession stand! He adored his grandkids.  

When his step-father Vernon’s health started to decline in the late 90’s, Larry took over the community coffee shop in Woodston. You could find him there with friends almost every morning swapping stories. In the last few years, Larry expanded his personal lawn mowing efforts to include a large portion of Woodston. Larry didn’t know a stranger, and loved to visit, for hours at a time.

Larry is survived by his wife, Betty Lala of the home in Woodston; daughters, Barbara Ann McClain and husband Mark of Smith Center, KS and Susan Elizabeth McCall and husband Shane of Smith Center, KS; sister-in-law, Janese Townley of Stockton, KS; four grandchildren, Matthew McClain (Janice), Megan Engle (Kurt), Marshall McCall, and Hallie McCall (Cody Theobald); five great-grandchildren, Luke, Benjamin, and Ethan McClain, and Brooks and Avery Engle; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ted Lala and Hallie Townley; step-dad Vernon Townley and brother Kent Townley.

Larry was greatly loved and will be terribly missed.  He was a man of value, character, and integrity who served with a giving heart and loved with an even greater heart. We can smile because he lived and left us with cherished memories that will live forever in our hearts. He will be remembered in love.

A Graveside Service will be held at Ashrock Cemetery north of Woodston, KS on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at 11AM. Visitation will be held on Monday 2PM-7PM with the family receiving friends 5PM-7PM.

Kenneth D. “Kenny” Kippes, age 71, died Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

&nbsp;He was born August 31, 1950, in Russell to George and Doris (Nowak) Kippes.&nbsp; He married Margaret (Hammerschmidt) on October 14, 1972, in Hays.&nbsp;

He owned and operated Ken’s Heating &amp; Air most of his life and the remaining 12 years worked at Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; He grew up on the family farm North of Walker, Kansas.&nbsp; Ken attended Walker Grade School and was a 1969 graduate of Victoria High School.&nbsp; He enjoyed wood working and spending time with his grandkids and their extracurricular activities.&nbsp; He was a long-time member of the Sons of American Legion and St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus both of Hays.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Kippes, of the home; three daughters, Michele Kieffer and husband, Andy, Hays, KS; Janelle Limon and husband, Richard, Colorado Springs, CO; Renee Trow, Scott City, KS; two sons, Kurt Kippes and wife, Kellie, Fenton, MI; John Kippes, Aurora, CO; seven grandchildren, Avery Kieffer; Macie Kieffer; Jasmine Limon; Raquel Limon; Kalyn Kippes; Kylah Kippes; Emily Vincent;&nbsp;&nbsp;one sister, Judy Sherlock and husband, Steve, Buena Vista, CO; his mother-in-law, Bernice Hammerschmidt, Hays, KS.

Kenneth D. 'Kenny' Kippes

Elizabeth "Liz" Knitter, 96, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2021, in Salina, KS. She was born November 10, 1925, in Pottawatomie County, Kansas, and graduated from Beloit High School. Liz remained in Beloit for ten years after high school, teaching in rural schools and working at R. L. Hamilton law firm before moving to San Bernardino, California. Liz worked as a legal secretary for 34 years. The last 18 years of her professional career were with the California State Appellate Courts. Liz joined Beta Sigma Phi sorority while living in Beloit and continued her involvement in California and Downs.  She was a lifetime member and active at the local, council, and state levels.  

Liz retired in 1988 and moved to Downs to be near family and friends. In retirement, Liz volunteered in many venues. She wrote for the local newspaper, presided over local judicial issues, and was an active artist with exhibits at the Dane G. Hansen Museum and the National Willa Cather Center in Red Cloud, NE. Liz taught various art workshops with area schools and Cloud County Community College. Liz supported Public Broadcast TV, Grassroots Art; Kansas Explorers Club; Kansas Sampler Foundation; and Solomon Valley Highway 24 Heritage Alliance.  She loved her family, books, meeting people, good conversations, and traveling.

Liz is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Florence (McDaniels) Knitter, sisters Betty Lou Knitter and Phyllis DeBey, and brother-in-laws Marlow DeBey and Doug Terry. Survivors include her sister Kathie Terry of Hill City, KS, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to Smoky Hills PBS or the Downs Christian Church. Domoney Funeral Home PO Box 127, Downs KS 67437, is in charge of the arrangements. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

She wrote for the local newspaper, presided over local judicial issues, and was an active artist with exhibits at the Dane G. Hansen Museum and the National Willa Cather Center in Red Cloud, NE. Liz taught various art workshops with area schools and Cloud County Community College. Liz supported Public Broadcast TV, Grassroots Art; Kansas Explorers Club; Kansas Sampler Foundation; and Solomon Valley Highway 24 Heritage Alliance. She loved her family, books, meeting people, good conversations, and traveling.Liz is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Florence (McDaniels) Knitter, sisters Betty Lou Knitter and Phyllis DeBey, and brother-in-laws Marlow DeBey and Doug Terry. John L. Buller, age 90, passed away on Friday, December 3, 2021, at 
the Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on July 
31, 1931, in Montezuma, Kansas, the son of Henry &amp; Eva Schmidt 
Buller.&nbsp; In 1976 he moved to Malin, Oregon, and lived and farmed there 
until 2000.&nbsp; In 2013 he moved to Scott City, Kansas.

He was a member of the Merrill Baptist Church in Merrill, Oregon, and
 was a past deacon in the church.&nbsp; He loved playing guitar and many 
other instruments.&nbsp; He often played gospel music with his family and 
friends at church on Sunday.&nbsp; His love of music carried on throughout 
his life, even when he could no longer play.

On September 17, 1950, he married Norma Jean Unruh in Montezuma, Kansas.&nbsp; She survives.

Survivors include his Wife - Norma Jean Buller of Scott City, Kansas,
 Two Sons - Sheldon &amp; Kim Buller of Scott City, Kansas, Jay &amp; 
Cheryl Buller of Malin, Oregon, One Daughter - Leslie &amp; Stan Koehn 
of Scott City, Kansas, One Brother - Milton &amp; Dee Buller of Bucklin,
 Kansas, One Sister - Darlene &amp; Gary Jantz of Greeley, Colorado,

Of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus, Great Bend.&nbsp; She was born 
August 22, 1932, in Ballinger, Texas, to Buna Doc and Jessie (Yarnell) 
Camp.&nbsp; Dorothy married Burl Dean Ford May 2, 1951, in Ballinger, Texas.&nbsp;
 He passed away April 23, 1976.&nbsp; She then married Alton Lee Morgan.

Dorothy, a resident of Great Bend since 1999 coming from Clovis, NM, 
was a long time dedicated employee of Wal Mart.&nbsp; She was of the Baptist 
faith, an avid KU and Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed crocheting and 
woodcrafts.

Survivors include, two sons, Curtis Ford, Sr. of Great Bend and Kevin
 Ford of Ruidoso, NM; a daughter, Denise King and significant other 
Steve Fricks of Great Bend; 10 grandchildren and several great 
grandchildren; sister, Gail Porter of Lubbock, Texas; and former 
son-in-law Eddie King of Great Bend.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Burl Dean Ford and Alton Lee 
Morgan; two sons, John Ford and David Ford; and a brother, Buddy Doc 
Camp.

Mohr, Sr. Wes married Lisa Kern Nov. 9, 1991, in Great Bend.&nbsp;

Wes, a resident of Great Bend since 1999 coming from Wichita, was the
 owner and operator of A-One Automotive.&nbsp; Being of the Christian faith, 
Wes used his generosity and gift of mechanics to help many people of the
 community.&nbsp; He was a former board member of the Barton Community 
College Automotive Department and was passionate about racing, being 
nationally ranked with many racing circuits and organizations.&nbsp; One of 
his most renowned achievements was being the recipient of the Hutchinson
 Grand National Champion.&nbsp; Above all, he was a dedicated family man, 
especially enjoying his children's activities, especially Quick Silver 
softball and Bombers Baseball.

Survivors include his wife, Lisa, and his children, Taylor Vasquez, 
Kylee Mohr and Slade Mohr all of the home; three brothers, Phillip 
Stefanski of Mo., Eldon Stefanski of Great Bend and Jeff Stefanski of 
Hoisington; six sisters, Cheryl Asher of Mo., Marla Derstein of Mo., 
Jeanie Field of Nickerson, Dee Gisel (Dennis) of Lawrence, Kathy Bush of
 Hutchinson, and Tina Mohr (Gary) of Cal.; uncle, Kenneth Mohr (Shari) 
of Ga.; aunt, Arletta Detherage of Great Bend; father and mother-in-law,
 Terry and Marie Kern of Great Bend; brother-in-law, Pat Kern of Great

 Jeanie was born in Schoenchen, Kansas on September 19, 1932, a daughter of the late Sophia (Herklotz) and Edward Werth.
 She was a homemaker, sales clerk at Ashton's Supermarket in Salina and True Value Hardware in Norton, Kansas. 
 Jeanie was a member of the Jaycee Janes Organization in Norton, 
Kansas. She was also a member of Emmanuel Church where she served as the
 Greeter Coordinator of the church greeters for many years. Jeanie was a
 speaker for Women's Aglow Christian Fellowship for 5-6 years. 
 Jeanie is survived by her husband of 68 years, Norbert L. 
Pfannenstiel; two daughters, Cynthia Meter (David), of Great Bend, 
Kansas, Debra Thompson (James), of Olathe, Kansas; son, Kevin 
Pfannenstiel, of Irving, Texas. 
 She is also survived by two granddaughters, Briana Kunze (Jason) of 
Wamego, Kansas, Katrina Tobin (Ryan McKee) of Aurora, Colorado; two 
grandsons, Brent Meter, of Overland Park, Kansas, Blake Pfannenstiel, of

Denise Detter, 68, died December 2, 2021, at Kansas Heart Hospital, 
Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born May 6, 1953, in Lyons, Kansas, the 
daughter of Glen Irving and Blanche Marie (Jones) Perry.&nbsp; Denise was a 
1971 graduate of Lyons High School.&nbsp;

On July 30, 1977, she married Leonard “Dwayne” Detter in Lyons, Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on January 12, 2014.

A longtime Hoisington resident, Denise worked as an office manager in
 the Great Bend oral surgeons office.&nbsp; Prior to this, she worked for 
Pepsi Distribution in Hays.

Denise was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.&nbsp; She was an 
avid reader and loved spending time with family and friends.&nbsp; Music and 
dancing was an essential part of her life and she loved following her 
favorite musician, Dwayne, to all of his gigs with Ronnie and the 
Rockits.

She is survived by her two children; Jebediah Cole Detter of Nixa, 
Missouri, and Caitlin Denise Alexander of Dodge City, Kansas; three 
grandchildren, Annalise Marie and Grayson Cole Detter, and Jack Lee 
Alexander; a sister, Valorie Jean Kizzar and husband Frank of Jal, New 
Mexico; a brother, Bart G. Perry and wife Debbie of Pottsboro, Texas;
