Robert Dunbar Macdonald

Robert Dunbar Macdonald, 85, Hays, Kansas, died Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at HaysMed.

He was born November 20, 1936, in Glasgow, Scotland, the son of William Anderson Dunbar and Violet Elizabeth Jane (Mulholland) Macdonald.  Robert attended school in Glasgow, and he graduated from Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho in 1970.  On December 19, 1970, Robert and Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Webb married and sealed for time and all eternity in Idaho at Idaho Falls Temple.  He became a citizen of the United States on September 17, 1980, in Denver, Colorado, and he earned his CNA certification and GED in Hays.  He loved serving others and did so through his work at DSNWK and Hays Good Samaritan Society.  Robert was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving a full mission in Scotland from 1962 -1964, and loved his church, family, singing, and education.

Survivors include his wife Betty of Hays, one son: Ian Macdonald and wife Brook of Olathe, two grandchildren: Seth Macdonald, serving a two-year mission in the Spokane Washington Mission and Ashlyn Macdonald of Olathe, two sisters: Dorothy Searle of Oshawa, Ontario, Canada and Mai Mackensie of Edinburgh, Scotland, a cousin: Maida Stadtler of Washington, D.C., a brother-in-law: Thomas Webb of Muncie, IN, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister: Violet Hoogwerff and a brother: James Stephen Macdonald.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 am on Monday, January 17, 2022 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hays.  Burial will follow at 2:00 pm in Buhler East Cemetery, Buhler.  Visitation will be from 9:00 am until service time on Monday at the church.
