Donna Jones

Miss Donna Jones, age 69, of Hays, Kansas passed away January 2, 2022, in Hays, Kansas. Donna was born January 9, 1952, in La Crosse, Kansas, to Clarence and Neola (Wagner) Morrison.

Donna had a kind spirit. She loved people at the CRO and had a special friendship with Wayne. She loved watching us play cards and beat up on Andy, she’d just laugh when Andy would say, “Donna they are picking on me!!”

We were her family especially after her mother passed last spring. She was a loving daughter who called her mom several times a day. She valued her sobriety, celebrating 37 years in 2021. She loved going out to eat with the group, and always had the same thing at whatever restaurant we choose.

She suffered from blood clots in her lungs, which put her on oxygen. She didn’t always use it daily, she was tired.

She felt right at home at the CRO, where she would come in, sit down and almost immediately fell asleep. She felt safe and I feared she didn’t sleep at home. She played Skip-Bo with us and loved being part of the group. She didn’t know a stranger, any newcomer she would welcome with open arms. She loved going to see Christmas lights and was excited that we were in the process of purchasing a new van.

She understood her limits and always took time to help after meals with clean up. She was a fantastic supervisor when we had our CRO painted. She made my family feel comfortable while they worked to help us get a face lift.

Donna was an artist, who shared her work with us when we had a grad student doing his practicum at the CRO, last year. She was very modest, and we learned many life lessons through her experiences she shared. She took her job very seriously, and she just completed Peer to Peer Classes at the CRO from NAMI. She loved learning. She encouraged everyone at the CRO to always do better and learn from life experiences. “You’re never too old to learn” was her motto.

She loved hugs, laughter, and fellowship with her peers.

Donna was a beacon at High Plains Independence, Inc. She will be truly missed. Rest in peace, my friend.

A Celebration of Life service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, January 15, 2022, at High Plains Inc., 1200 Canterbury in Hays. (Use the entrance on the northeast corner.)
