Darlene Faye Alger, 92, Lakewood, Colorado and formerly of
LaCrosse, Kansas, died Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at Bonaventure Senior Living
in Thornton, Colorado.

She was born November 22, 1933 in Manhattan, Kansas, the
oldest child of James Winston, Sr. and Hildred L. (Noland) Hedinger.&nbsp; On November 8, 1950 she was united in
marriage to Wayne L. Alger in Salina, and they celebrated 66 years of marriage
before he preceded her in death on June 12, 2017.&nbsp; 

Children were her priority, and she loved raising her
daughters, being a constant caregiver for her granddaughters, as well extending
her nurturing care to the children she babysat.&nbsp; She enjoyed
serving as PTA president, making baked goods, which were a hit at all the
school events, and working at Leaning Tree and Borg’s Children’s Cottage. 

Darlene was a
wonderful homemaker.&nbsp; Her home was
welcome to all and filled with warmth, love, delicious food, freshly brewed
coffee, and lively conversation around her kitchen table.&nbsp; She cherished the special close-knit bond she
had with her siblings, and as the matriarch of her family, she was loved and
respected.&nbsp; Known to be an early riser,
Darlene’s mornings were often filled with phone conversations with her siblings
and dear friends.&nbsp; She loved working with
her daughter Cynthia at her business, PDG Pre-Press and sneaking away together
for a little gambling at the casino.&nbsp;
Most of all, Darlene’s greatest joy came from being a great grandma to
her four great grandchildren whom she dearly loved.

Survivors
include her daughter Dianna Turner of Wichita, KS, son-in-law Kelvin Bogle of
Westminster, CO, granddaughters Danica Overton (Bob) of Hinsdale, IL and Darci
Brunton (Kenny) of Thornton, CO, great grandchildren Lilja Balaji (Naveen),
Liam Carden, Preston Brunton, and Burke Brunton, brothers James Hedinger
(Sandy) of Ponca City, OK, Jim Brennecke (Julie Clark) of Springfield, MO,
sisters Jeanne Friess of Minneapolis, KS, Sharon Barnard (Clifford) of Derby,
Linda Hall of Neodesha, KS and Marcia Feather of Derby, KS, and numerous nieces
and nephews.

She was
preceded in death by her father James Hedinger, Sr., her mother Hildred
Feather, husband Wayne Alger, daughter Cynthia Bogle, and her brother David
Feather.

A Celebration
of Life will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at Hays Memorial
Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine Street, Hays, Kansas, with Pastor Chad Pritchett

Darlene Faye Alger

Marvin D. Greenberg passed away on November 30, 2025, at Parkview Nursing Center, Osborne, at the age of 83. His parents were George and Grayce Greenberg. As a twin, he and his sister, Sharon Pope, were born at Norton and raised in Selden.

He attended school in Selden, graduating from Selden High School in 1960. Following graduation, he attended Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia, later known as Emporia State University. He earned his bachelor’s degree in education in 1964, his master’s in educational administration in 1968, and his specialist in education in 1969. 

He taught elementary school in Brewster for five years before becoming the elementary principal at Golden Plains, Selden and Rexford. He also held positions at Wheatland: Grainfield, Gove, and Park Schools, St. Joseph’s Elementary, Oakley; Scott City, Shallow Water, and Smith Center Elementary School.

In 1969, Marvin and Louise Bosch were married in Russell.

At the time, he was an elementary principal in Selden. Several moves in school districts in western Kansas, with their home being in Smith Center in 1983. Marvin’s retirement included several rental properties that he took care of for many years, along with gardening and volunteering. Over the years, raising registered Persian cats occupied his life along with many rescued cats and kittens.

Marvin was active in the Lions Club, holding offices in the clubs he belonged to in Brewster, Grainfield, and Smith Center. He was District Governor in 1991-92 and 2001-21 for District NW and K. He held several positions at the district and state level, including Kansas Lions Band Foundation, K-I committee and other committees.

He was preceded in death by his parents, older sister, Phyllis Layher, and numerous aunts and uncles, and two nephews.

 Survivors are his wife, Louise; his twin sister, Sharon Pope, Mankato; his brother-in-law, Ray Bosch, and wife, Sheila, Gorham, Kansas; numerous nieces and nephews and their children; and his Lions family and friends.

Memorials in lieu of flowers can be made to SONshine Christian Church, Smith Center; Kansas Lions Band Foundation; or Smith Center Lions Club. Memorials can be sent to Rentschler Family Mortuaries, Smith Center, KS.

Cremation has taken place with a memorial service to be held at SONshine Christian Church, Smith Center at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6.

Daniel Reid Wallace was born June 11, 1971, to Leon "Bud" Wallace and Marilyn (Hobbie) Wallace. Dan graduated from Lucas-Luray High School in 1989. 

Dan met the love of his life, Cyndy Chrisman, in Hays. They were married on July 17, 1993. Dan and Cyndy were blessed with 3 children, Alisha (Andrew) Wilkinson, Bradley (Kylee Hollingshead) Wallace, Ben Wallace and grandchildren Sydney and Austin Wilkinson.

Dan loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed watching the KC Chiefs and the KU Jayhawks. Dan enjoyed fishing, hunting and working in his garden.

Dan worked at EnerSys for 34 years, where he made many friends.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Marilyn Wallace, and brother Brad Wallace.

Dan is survived by siblings Debbie (Kim) Ward, Lawrence, KS; Don (Larean) Wallace, Orlando, Florida; and Kathy (Blake) Grabast, Osborne, Karen Wallace Topeka, Scott Wallace Topeka, sisters-in-law Karen D Wallace Chanute, Chris Chrisman Wakeeney, Cheryl Chrisman (Ted Shrope) Biglerville, Pennsylvania, and many loved nieces and nephews.

Jorgie Jalee Dreiling, age 65, of Antonino, passed away on November 12, 2025, in Antonino. She was born March 30, 1960, in Dodge City to George R. “Dick” and Virginia Marie (Graham) Lochmann. 

Jorgie graduated from Hays High in 1978, and on July 13, 1981, she married David Neal Dreiling. He preceded her in death on August 14, 2022.

Jorgie had worked as a home health aide, and she loved all types of music, had a great sense of humor, avid gardener, wonderful cook, loved animals and helping others.

Survivors include her daughter, Randi Dreiling of Hays; sisters, Janis Anderson of Peabody and Bonnie Rudzik of Cimmaron; nieces, Faith Lochmann of Phoenix, Arizona, Christin Lochmann-Baxter of Hays, Sara Ross of Dodge City, Abbey Halbrook of Los Angeles, and Amanda Halbrook of Los Angeles; nephews, Lance Lochmann of Columbus, Missouri. and AJ Halbrook of Los Angeles.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George R. “Dick” and Virginia Marie (Graham) Lochmann; her husband, David Dreiling; an angel baby; sisters, Julie Lochmann and Lana Ross; and two brothers, Dickie Lochmann and John Steinmitz.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on December 8, 2025, at Westview Church in Hays.

James “Boise” Carrasco, 79, Hays, died Monday, December 1, 2025, at his home.

He was born January 15, 1946, in Hays, the son of Alberto and Evelyn (Speier) Carrasco. Boise did construction work all his life, starting out as a little boy carrying bricks for his dad, becoming a mud tender for Schumacher Brothers when he was a little older, and then working his way up to brick mason. For a while, he was co-owner of J&amp;R Masonry then worked for D&amp;S Masonry until he retired.

On April 16, 1966, he was united in marriage to Sue Wiesner in Ellis, and they celebrated 59 years of marriage. Boise and Sue enjoyed their many trips to Arizona, and Boise was always playing games and telling tall tales when traveling with his daughter and granddaughters. He enjoyed woodworking and cherished his yearly fishing trips with his best buddies, but taking care of his family was always his first priority and biggest joy. He enjoyed teaching his son-in-law home improvement skills and sneaking off to play pool, and he truly delighted in football season and the Sunday tradition of watching the games, especially the Kansas City Chiefs, with is son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Sue of the home, his son Dean Carrasco (Pattie) of Schoenchen, his daughter Dawn Robles (José) of Surprise, AZ, five brothers, Robert Carrasco of Wyoming, Paul Carrasco (Linda) of Victoria, Frank Carrasco (Diane Meyers) of Hays, Danny Carrasco (Colette) of Hays, and Mike Carrasco of Hays, three sisters, Sue Hood of Wichita, Debbie Carrasco (Christy Barry) of Hays, and Lisa Gillpatrick (Bob) of Overland Park, five grandchildren, Kelsey Legleiter (Zach), Tyler Carrasco, Aaliyah Robles, Sasha Robles, and Gabriela Robles, his great grandson Callan Legleiter, and numerous nieces and nephews.

James 'Boise' Carrasco

Phillipsburg resident, Daniels “Dan” Lee Heinze Sr. went to be with the Lord on November 26, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska, at the age of 86.

Daniels Lee Heinze Sr. was born on January 20, 1939, in Lucas, Kansas, to his parents Edwin Leo Heinze and Wilmadean D. (Daniels) Brockman.

Dan was a long-time Phillipsburg resident, working as an insurance and real estate agent.

Dan is preceded in death by his father, Edwin L. Heinze; his mother, Wilmadean D. Brockman; his brother, Edwin L. Heinze Jr.; and his sisters, Sonja A. (Heinze) Schultz and Linda L. (Heinze) Thorn.

Survivors include his wife Brenda S. Heinze of Phillipsburg, Kansas, children Kenda S. (Heinze) Elliott-Seyer and husband Carl of Rowlett, Texas, Kelly K. (Heinze) Vanderplas and husband Jeff of Phillipsburg,

A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 8, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at the First Assembly of God in Phillipsburg, Kansas, with Pastor Art Walker officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Phillipsburg, Kansas.

Dan will lie in state on Saturday, December 6, and Sunday, December 7, from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel in Phillipsburg, Kansas. Daniels 'Dan' Lee Heinze Sr.

Thomas (Tommy) Wasson Sloan, 78, passed away on November 29
surrounded by his family. Tommy was born on April 25, 1947, to Cleland and
Doris (Wasson) Sloan in Oberlin.&nbsp;

Tommy was raised in Selden and Norton Kansas and graduated
from the U.S. Grant High School in Oklahoma City in 1965. After high school
Tommy traveled to Germany to live there with his family for just over a year.
He was later called home from Germany to serve in the U.S. National Guard.
Tommy started his lifelong career and passion for truck driving in 1968.&nbsp;

Tommy had a deep interest in politics throughout his life
and enjoyed watching college sports in his later years. Other than his family,
there was nothing that Tommy loved more than driving truck. He retired from the
road in 2014 after a wonderful career of driving and volunteering his time to
be a part of the Special Olympics Convoy every year. Tommy went on to involve
himself in truck shows across the country, traveling with his son Matt and the Steel
Wool Clan as well as many friends from all different directions. Along with
that, he became a master lawn mower, spending most of his summers cutting grass.


Tom had a love of driving all of his life, buying his first
car at 13, before even being issued a driver’s license. After traveling back to
the states and beginning his career Tommy adopted Kari Husted, his first wife's
daughter, and went on to have a son, Matthew, in 1978. He later remarried
Leanna Gallagher Sloan in 1998. Tom spent over 27 joy-filled years with Leanna,
the love of his life. Tom and Leanna dedicated most of their married lives
taking care of the people around them. They helped their son Matt raise his
daughter, their granddaughter, Jaylei as he followed in his dad’s footsteps as
a long haul truck driver. In 2020 Tom and Leanna became the caregivers of Mark
and John Richardson after their mothers passing and have spent the last five
and a half years tending to the boys. Tommy had a great love for Mark and John,
just as they have always loved him. 

Tommy is survived by his wife Leanna Sloan, sister Judy
Shirley, son Matthew Sloan, daughter Kari Sloan Husted, granddaughters Jaylei
Sloan, and Alex Fisher, his boys Mark and John Richardson, and his pup
Malli.&nbsp;

Tom was preceded in death by his father Cleland Sloan
(1988), Sister Cindy Sauder (2014), and his mother Dorris (Wasson) Sloan (2023).

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday December 3rd at
Hoxie United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. Visitation will be from 2-7p.m. at
Mickey Leopold Funeral Home, with family receiving guests from 6 to 7. Following
visitation, at 7:00 p.m. there will be a Service of Remembrance, a time for sharing
stories and honoring Tommy’s memory. Burial will be later in the Selden

Thomas (Tommy) Wasson Sloan

Glenn
Thomas Fondoble, age 74, of Ellis, Kansas passed away Sunday, November 30, 2025
at the Good Samaritan Society, Ellis. He was born July 19, 1951 in Hays, Kansas
to Vernice and Alma (Wasinger) Fondoble. Glenn attended St. Mary’s grade
school, graduated from Ellis High School in 1969, and from Fort Hays State
University in 1973. On March 3, 1973 he married Ronda Sue Bell at St. Mary's
Church in Ellis.



Glenn worked for the State of Kansas Human Resources for 25 years. His work in
Human Resources continued in his own business for 5 years and an additional 10
years at Sizewise. He was an active Ellis community resident serving on various
boards and committees including the Ellis School Board, St. Mary’s Home and
School and Ellis alumni association. He continued the development of his faith
at St. Mary's Church where he was a CCD teacher, lector, a member of the guitar
choir and Knights of Columbus.



Glenn had a passion for racing that spanned across a variety of types; go-kart,
pinewood derby, computer based, R/C, Indycar, and long-distance running. His
draw to the Indianapolis 500 was in part due to his passion for racing as well
as his respect for the memory of those who served in our county’s military,
both culminating in celebrations at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the
Indy 500 race. No matter the form, Glenn’s love for racing was always shared
with others as he often provided opportunities for others to watch and
participate. Children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews always had an
opportunity.



He is survived by his wife, Ronda of the home; his daughter, Olivia Fondoble of
Westfield, Indiana; his daughter Natalie Dermody and husband James of Houston,
Texas and their children, Sam, Abigail, and Alex; his son, Matthew Fondoble and
wife Sharona of Ellis, Kansas and their children, Faith, Dominic and Isabelle;
his mother, Alma, of Ellis; and two sisters, Peggy Seibel and husband Steve of
Ellis, Kansas and Pamela Johnson and husband Mike of Aurora, Colorado.



He was preceded in death by his father, Vernice.



Funeral services will be Thursday, December 4, 2025 at 10:00am at St. Mary's
Catholic Church in Ellis, Kansas. 

Burial will follow in the St. Mary's
Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 3 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM and Thursday
9:00 AM until service time all at St. Mary's Church.

Alan James Vonfeldt, 65, of
Russell, Kansas, passed away at his home with his loving family by his side.
After facing several strokes and enduring cancer, God called Alan home on
Thursday, November 27th 2025. Alan was born January 26, 1960 in Russell, the
youngest of five children born to Roy P. and Velma C. (Stang) Vonfeldt. He grew
up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in the Class of 1978.

Alan met the love of his life,
Carmen Ptacek, in high school and they were united in marriage on August 24,
1985. This union was blessed with three children; Matthew, Morgan and Michael.
They made their home in Russell, living in town and later moving to the
country.

Following in his father's
footsteps from an early age, Alan owned his first oil well as a high school
student. He took pride in drilling and producing Russell County oil. Alan loved
the chase of striking oil; seizing every opportunity to expand and share the
passion with his next generation.&nbsp;

The center of Alan’s life was his
wife and family. Alan loved making memories with them by taking trips, sharing
meals, attending concerts and time at the lake. He found such joy in being 'Papa' and watching his grandchildren grow. He enjoyed going to demo derbies,
mud runs, car shows and races. He was big-hearted and kind; sharing a warm
smile and many laughs with friends and family. Alan was fond of his shed,
offering conversation and drinks to anyone who would walk through the door. He
enjoyed sharing stories, especially those about the oilfield.&nbsp;

Even while facing tremendous
challenges and setbacks in his health, Alan reassured his family without
complaint. His steadfast courage will never be forgotten.

Surviving family include his wife
of 40 years, Carmen of the home; sons, Matthew Vonfeldt (Jordyn) of Russell,
Kansas, and Michael Vonfeldt (Sarah) of Russell, Kansas; daughter, Morgan
Murphy (Lance) of Gorham, Kansas; brother, Steven Vonfeldt (Mary) of Russell,
Kansas; sisters, Vicki Munday of Russell, Kansas and Diane Lindenmuth (Darwin)
of Woodward, Oklahoma; and nine beloved grandchildren (Lorrayn, Hadley, Blayke,
Ada, Whit, Evie, Dutton, Callan and Griffin). Alan was preceded in death by his

Alan James Vonfeldt

Scot A. Murchie, 73, of Stockton, Kansas, passed away at
HaysMed in Hays, KS. He was born on February 3, 1952, in Devil’s Lake, North
Dakota, to John J. and Ruth (Brooks) Murchie. On August 1, 1986, Scot was
united in marriage to Denise Reed at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Stockton.
Together they were blessed with two children, Heather and Adam.

Scot grew up in Sarles, ND, and graduated from Border
Central High School in Calvin, ND. He worked as a custom harvester in his early
years before spending 14 years with Farmland Industries. He ultimately retired
after 26 dedicated years with Westhusing’s, Inc. Known for his strong work
ethic and even stronger loyalty, Scot formed lasting friendships everywhere he
went. He was a charter member of Solomon Valley Pheasants Forever and a past
member of the Solomon Valley Antique Engine and Machinery Association.

He loved the outdoors—especially hunting, fishing, camping,
and harvesting—and took great pride in his woodworking projects. He enjoyed
playing cards and pool, sharing a cold one with friends, and spending time with
his family. His greatest joy came from being “Grandpa” to his two
grandchildren. Scot was a talented handyman who could fix nearly anything and
was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Scot is survived by his wife, Denise, of the home in
Stockton; his children, Heather (Dustin) James of Wichita Falls, TX, and Adam
(fiancé Kaylee Dreher) Murchie of Hays, KS; his beloved grandchildren, Declan
Kyle James and Madalyn AnnMarie James; and his mother-in-law, Shirley Reed of
Stockton.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ann Murchie;
brother, Kirk Murchie; and his father-in-law, Charles Reed.

Melvin James 'Mel' Schmidt age, 75,
of Victoria, Kansas, passed away at his home on Thursday, November 27, 2025.

He was born June 23, 1950, in Hays, Kansas, to Wendelin F. and Pauline (Urban)
Schmidt.&nbsp; He married Connie (Berger) on May 17, 1975, at Hays, Kansas.

He owned and operated S &amp; S Supply Company INC, formerly known as
Schmidtberger Supply in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; Mel started working for his
brother-in-law after high school, and in 1993, Mel and his brother Gary
purchased the business from their brother-in-law.&nbsp; In 2006, Mel purchased
the business and operated the&nbsp;supply company until he closed in 2024 due
to his health.

Mel grew up in Pfeifer, Kansas, attended Pfeifer Grade School, was a 1968
graduate of Victoria High School, and a graduate of Fort Hays State University.


He enjoyed gardening, Connie and Mel would make salsa, pickles, canned beets,
and Mel’s sausage he would make during the holidays.&nbsp; He played a lot of
basketball and played on a number of Softball teams in his earlier years.&nbsp;
His favorite teams were the Chiefs, Royals, KU basketball, and loved spending
time with his family and grandkids.

Mel had a lot of regular coffee drinkers in the morning, and afternoon friends
at the plumbing supply store.&nbsp; Most important to Mel was his family, he
was so proud of them, and the love he had for his wife, and best friend Connie,
50 years of marriage they had together. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;Melvin is survived by his wife, Connie, of the home; his daughter, Miranda
Ashbaugh, Hays, KS; Jackie
Schmidt, Hays, KS; his grandchildren, Kaleigh Ashbaugh; Kaden Ashbaugh; Keiarra
Gonzales; his brothers, Irvin Schmidt, Wichita, KS; Leon Schmidt and wife,
Roseann, Wichita, KS; Gary Schmidt and wife, Karen, Hot Springs, AR; his
sisters-in-law, Kay Schmidt, Wichita, KS; Judy Weigel and husband, Bob,
Lawrence, KS; his brothers-in-law, Joseph Berger Jr. and wife, Colette Nina,
MO; and Dennis Berger, Hays, KS. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Wendelin and Pauline Schmidt; his
brother, Wendelin Schmidt Jr.; his sisters, Melba Schmidtberger and Leroy;
Norma Schmidtberger and Marvin; his sister-in-law, Nancy Schmidt; and his
infant sister, Margola Mary Schmidt. &nbsp;

Mel will be remembered for his quick wit and being a jokester.&nbsp; He never
knew a stranger and was the best husband, best dad, best grandpa.&nbsp; He will
be missed by many but will always be in our hearts. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, at The Basilica of
Saint Fidelis, 900 Cathedral Ave., Victoria, Kansas, with Celebrant, Father
Curtis Carlson O.F.M. Cap.&nbsp; Burial will be in Saint Michael The Archangel
Cemetery south of Hays, Kansas.

Melvin Schmidt

Lewis
Leroy (Roy) Drullinger, 88, passed away on November 24, 2025, at Redbud Village
in Plainville, Kansas. He was born on April 19, 1937, in Chadron, Nebraska, to
Lawrence Leroy and Lucile Demaris (Sanford) Drullinger. Lewis’ sister Jean
Marie and brother Gary Dean were born next, completing their family.

Lewis
proudly served his country, joining the U.S. Army in 1953 and spending his
service years in Germany until 1956. During his time in the military, he earned
his GED and later returned home to graduate alongside his sister in 1957 from
Chadron State Prep School.

A
hardworking man with an adventurous spirit, Lewis joined a harvest crew
traveling to Canada, where he met Edith Sharon Adamson. They married on
September 20, 1956, in Montana. Together, they were blessed with three
children: Lawrence Leroy (named after his grandfather), Roger Dean, and Lori
Jean. Lewis and Edith divorced in 1966.

Lewis married
Marlene Anderson in 1967, and adopted two of her children, Brenda and Dick. They
lived in Colby where Lewis worked for Colby Steel. In October 1974, tragedy
struck when Marlene, her older daughter Twila, and Brenda were killed in a
vehicle accident. Following the loss, he moved to Kirwin, Kansas and started a fence-building
business with his first wife Edith and their sons Larry and Roger. 

Lewis’s
next chapter was with longtime friend, Jodi (Pulec) Brown. They had 23 wonderful
years together.

Lewis loved
the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He had many amazing life adventures
and endless truly interesting stories he loved to share. He was proud of an
impressive gun collection he added to through the years. He always had a black
Labrador by his side, naming them after women he admired. He enjoyed poker and
card games with friends, and was an avid reader, often reading until the wee
hours of the morning.

Lewis
was preceded in death by his parents; brother Gary; wives, Edith and Marlene;
companion Jodi; sons, Roger and Dick; sister Jean Marie; and stepdaughters,
Brenda and Twila.

He is
survived by his son, Larry; daughter, Lori; many grandchildren,
great-grandchildren and a host of friends.

A
memorial service will be held on Monday, December 1, 2025, at 10AM at the
funeral home in Stockton with burial to follow at the Stockton Cemetery.

Marvin
L. King, age 87, of Ellis passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on
Sunday, November 23, 2025, in Ellis. He was born June 19, 1938, to Chris and
Anna (Sauer) King on the family farm in rural Ellis County.

 

Marvin graduated from Ellis High School in 1957. On May 23, 1960, he married
Barbara Bittel in Ellis at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Marvin had a lengthy
career spanning 30 years with Golden Belt COOP of Ellis working as a fuel
delivery driver, service station worker and in the hardware store.



Marvin was a US Army veteran, a member of St. Mary’s Church and a 3rd degree
Ellis Knights of Columbus member. He was known to be an exceptional woodworker
and gardener. Marvin enjoyed many activities such as playing golf, softball,
attending and supporting his children and grandchildren in all of their
activities. His love of sports led him to coaching little league baseball and
rooting for his beloved KU Jayhawks, Kansas City Chiefs and the Royals. He also
supported the Ellis Jr Free Fair where he had served on the board. &nbsp;



He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara of Ellis; sons, Wade King and
wife Leitha of Ellis, Wes King and wife Kim of Andale, Kansas; a daughter,
Wanda Younger and husband Donnie of Ellis; two sisters, Carol Armbrister and
husband Verlin of Ellis and Elaine King of Berthoud, Colorado; a
daughter-in-law, Sharon King of Hutchinson, Kansas; his grandchildren, Calvin
(Dionna) King of Germany, Casey (Deena) King of Sarasota, Florida, Cole (Emily)
King of Overland Park, Kansas, Dr. Clay King of Fairway, Kansas, Dr. Chase King

Marvin L. King

Norman 'JR' Lee Sander, Jr., age 68, of Columbia, TN, passed away at home with family on November 10, 2025, after a battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born in Gorham, KS, he was the son of the late Norman Sander and Paulette (Dreiling) Sander. A 1975 graduate of Victoria High School in Victoria, KS, he went on to spend more than 40 years in the entertainment lighting, sound, and staging industry, where he approached his work with passion and formed lifelong friendships.

JR was a devoted husband and father, remembered for his kindness, his warm and unmistakable hugs, and the joyful energy he brought to every family gathering. He never missed a chance to tell the people around him that he loved them. He lived his Catholic faith deeply and was a proud and dedicated member of the Church of the Nativity, where he volunteered regularly and served faithfully with the Knights of Columbus.

JR loved being surrounded by family and friends and was always the one to bring the fun, whether spending long summer days on Norris Lake and Ft. Loudon Lake or opening his home with Sherry for pool parties full of music, laughter, and good food. He also loved traveling with his family, especially their beach trips and snow skiing adventures. He made memories everywhere he went, from visiting Aaron in Munich to exploring the streets of Rome on what became his final trip, where he liked to say he 'didn’t have a single bad meal.' It was a trip he talked about until the end, especially the meaningful time they shared together in the Vatican deepening his faith.

JR is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Sherry (Warwick) Sander; his son, Aaron Sander; his sister, Deb (Dan) Lickteig; sisters-in-law, Ginger (Andrew) Ramsey and Leigh Ann Warwick; mother-in-law, Helen Forrester; father-in-law, JC (Larene) Warwick; aunts and uncles, Cathy (Tom) Roth, Lou Bowman, Danny (Elaine) Dreiling, Frank (Cathy) Dreiling, Roy (Linda) Dreiling, Charlene (Edward) Rohr, Vernon (Celeste) Sander, Robert (Linda) Sander, Janie (Miles) Leckliter, Carrie (Alan) Billinger, and many beloved extended family members, including Joyce (Clint) McClure, Misty Massengill, Kevin Massengill, Mac Massengill, Trent Karlin, Clayton Murray, Victoria Ramsey, Liam Ramsey, Jordan Bouldin, Kendall Bouldin, Chandler Bouldin, Sarah Bouldin, Lillian Smith, Addison Karlin, Roy (Elaine) Warwick, and Dwayne Warwick, as well as many other aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He lived his Catholic faith deeply and was a proud and dedicated member of the Church of the Nativity, where he volunteered regularly and served faithfully with the Knights of Columbus.JR loved being surrounded by family and friends and was always the one to bring the fun, whether spending long summer days on Norris Lake and Ft. Loudon Lake or opening his home with Sherry for pool parties full of music, laughter, and good food. He also loved traveling with his family, especially their beach trips and snow skiing adventures. He made memories everywhere he went, from visiting Aaron in Munich to exploring the streets of Rome on what became his final trip, where he liked to say he 'didn’t have a single bad meal.' Wilma Elaine (Gatlin) Lauber

Andrea Lynn Klaus passed away Sunday,
November 16, 2025 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Ellis, Kansas at the
age of 72 after a several years battle with cancer. 

She was born May 14, 1953
in Hays, Kansas the third child of Andrew and Alfreda (Stadelman) Klaus. She
grew up in Plainville, Kansas and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Grade School
and graduated in the Class of 1971 from Plainville Rural High School. She went
on to attend Brown Mackie School of Business earning a degree in Fashion
Merchandising. 

She loved music boxes and had a huge
collection of them. However, she learned early on that her real passion was
cooking. She started cooking at the age of five, kneeling on a chair to be able
to reach the stove. Consequently, this love began an extensive collection of
cookbooks. 

It was all the same to her whether
she cooked for two or two hundred. She started working at the Rooks County
Country Club at the age of 13 as a dishwasher and quickly moved up to being
sous chef. After moving to Hill City in 1974, she started cooking at Buck’s
Grill and eventually purchased the business which she ran for several years.
When she decided it was time to get out of the restaurant business, she got
into telecommunications working for CATV, Lewis Communications, Classic Cable,
PCCS and Rural Telephone/Nex-Tech until 2013. Then she went to work for
retirement due to illness in 2025. 

She was a long-time member of Gamma
Upsilon ESA baking many pies for the craft fairs that they sponsored every
year. Family meant everything to her. She loved her nieces and nephews dearly.
Any bad habits that they may have, you can be assured that they probably
learned them from her. The thing that made her most proud was passing down her
love for cooking to her niece, Jennifer. 

Andrea was
preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and an infant brother, Terry.
She is survived by her brother, Donald (Diana) Klaus of Topeka, her sister,
Roxanna Klaus of Hill City, Nephew, Daniel (Sonsahara) Klaus of Garden City,
Niece, Jennifer Klause of Topeka, Great-nephews, Christopher (Autumn) Hooks of
Topeka and Isaac Klaus of Garden City and great-great nice, Gracelyn Hooks and
great-great nephews, Beckham ( Bubba) and Tobias (Toby) Hooks all of Topeka, an
uncle, Frank Stadelman of Ellis, and many cousins.

Andrea Lynn Klaus

James Don Miller, age 46, of Russell, Kansas, formerly of Hugoton,
passed away on November 21, 2025, at Hays Medical Center after a long battle
with kidney disease. He was born on July 6, 1979, in Ulysses, Kansas, to James
and Cheryl Miller.

James—known to many as Jimmy—attended Hugoton High School. In his
youth, he attended Trinity Baptist Church in Hugoton, where he was baptized and
grew in his faith.

Jimmy worked in the oilfield and in construction. He had a true
love for the outdoors and enjoyed cooking and barbecuing, fishing, camping, and
spending time at family gatherings. One of his greatest joys was crafting; he
especially loved creating handmade rocks and gifts, which he shared generously
with those around him. He loved attending his nephews’ sporting events, and was
also a devoted music lover whose playlists were always close by.

He is survived by his son, Cuylor Miller, and Cuylor’s wife
Brittany; his daughters Jasmine and Grace; and his five beautiful
granddaughters: Braighlynn, Briella, Lexi, Landri, and Nevaeh.

Jimmy is also survived by his sisters, Tami Wood and Tina Barber,
and Tina’s husband Brandon; his parents, James and Cheryl Miller; as well as
numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins,
and many friends whose lives he touched.

He was preceded in death by his brother William; his paternal
grandparents, James and Gloria Miller; and his maternal grandparents, Don and
Mae Marsh.

Jimmy will be remembered for his generous heart, creative spirit,
and the deep love he held for his family. His memory will be cherished always.

Services will be held at High Plains Baptist Church in Hays,
Kansas, on December 6th, 2025, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials are

James Don Miller

Robert Dean Yunker, 83, passed away at the Medical Lodges in Goddard, KS.  Robert was born on Wednesday, October 28, 1942 in Salina, Kansas to Lydia (Staab) and Martin Yunker. 

Bob began his education at Sacred Heart Grade School in Salina, continuing at Jefferson when the family moved back to Hays in the early 1950’s.  He graduated from Hays High School in 1960 where his activities included band and football. Known for his work ethic, Bob became the first of the largest group of brothers (six) to deliver the Hays Daily News.  Employed at the Hays Creamery during his last two years of high school and his first year of college, Bob spent a year in Denver installing carpet before joining the US Navy. 

His military service included graduating from the Navy’s Electronic Technician (Radar) school at Treasure Island, CA followed by assignments onboard the USS Gunston Hall (LSD 5) and USS Thomaston (LSD 28).  It is believed Bob contracted Parkinson’s disease through exposure to Agent Orange while serving onboard the Thomaston during numerous Marine Corps landings and&nbsp;&nbsp;operations in Vietnam and its inland waterways.

  His military awards included the Combat Action Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation Gallantry Cross with Palm, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. 

  After his Honorable Discharge, Bob returned to Fort Hays State University earning a Masters in Business and Bachelor’s Degree in Economics. Throughout college he worked at his uncle’s tavern, the Blue Moon, followed by a number of years at Travenol, prior to accepting the position as Business Manager and later as Superintendent of the Kansas Soldiers Home at Fort Dodge. After returning to Hays, he was employed by the US Postal Service until he retired.

 Bob married Kathy L. Smith of Agra, KS in 1969.  They later divorced remaining friends until her passing in 2019.  His interests included managing his investments and real estate properties, all Fort Hays State University and Kansas City sports, antique and special interest vehicles, and raised pigeons for years.  He was a Life Member of American Legion Post 173 in Hays, and served as the Commander and Adjutant of Post 107 at Ft. Dodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Martin Jr., David, and Thomas, nephew Matthew Yunker, former wife Kathy Yunker, and brother-in-law David Weed. 

Bob is survived by sons Rob (Aaron) of Wichita, James (Kelli) and Jason of Hays, 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Brothers Charles of Tecumseh, KS, James (Shirley) of Hays, KS, Daniel (Joan) of Andover, KS; sisters Mary Alice Weed of Salina, KS, Janice Koshiol of Hays, KS; sisters-in-law Karen Yunker Fountain, CO and Lois Yunker of Munjor, KS, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

A celebration of life will be planned for the spring of 2026.

Robert Dean Yunker

Norman George Anschutz, 86, of
Russell, Kansas, died on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the Via Christi Saint
Francis Hospital in Wichita.

Norman was born on October 15,
1939, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Louis and Vivian (Thielen) Anschutz.&nbsp; He grew up in Dorrance, Kansas, and graduated
from Dorrance High School in the class of 1958. He attended Kansas State
University, graduating with an Architecture degree in 1963, and spending most
of his early professional career with Shaver &amp; Company in Salina, Kansas.
During a temporary project assignment in California, he met and fell in love
with Barbara Jean Dito. The couple was united in marriage on May 31, 1969, in
San Francisco, California. Norman and Barbara began their new life together in
San Jose, California and were blessed with two children: Cheryl and Michael. In
1976, the family moved back to Kansas, making their home in Russell.&nbsp; Norman worked part-time as an architect while
maintaining the family farm he had dearly missed while in California. Though
having moved away, Norman ensured the family traveled back to San Francisco
frequently to stay connected to Barbara’s Italian family, while enjoying the
amazing food and taking in all the sights and traditions.&nbsp; He was a longtime member of St. Mary Queen of
Angels Catholic Church in Russell.&nbsp;
Norman was a dedicated member of the Russell COOP coffee group where he
enjoyed spending his morning visiting with friends. Norm and Barb loved
traveling to Colorado, and other scenic locations as he loved the outdoors. A
tender heart for animals, Norman found great joy caring for the farm cats and
the many dogs in his life over the years. He was also an avid collector of
scale model John Deere equipment and Model T Cars, and a lifelong history buff.
After discovering the wonders of the iPad, he would spend countless hours
learning everything he could about history and listening to his beloved music.
Most of all, Norman enjoyed spending time working the family farm with his son,
and spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving family include wife of
56 years, Barbara Anschutz of the home, daughter, Cheryl T. Brock (Travis) of
Wichita, Kansas and son Michael N. Anschutz (Mendi) of Hays, Kansas; sisters
Ellen Spaulding (Mark) of Andover, Kansas and Eileen Keenan (Dennis) of
Overland Park, Kansas; and grandchildren Hannah, Leah, Luke, Jared, Shelby, and
Easton.

He was preceded in death by his
parents and sister Joyce Cobb-Barker.

A Funeral Mass will be held at
10:30 AM, Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic
Church of Russell. Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be held at 9:00 AM to 5:00
PM, Monday, November 24, 2025, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary. Vigil and
Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM, Monday November 24 at St. Mary, Queen of Angels
Catholic Church.&nbsp; A memorial has been
established with Russell Senior Center.&nbsp;

After discovering the wonders of the iPad, he would spend countless hours
learning everything he could about history and listening to his beloved music.
Most of all, Norman enjoyed spending time working the family farm with his son,
and spending time with his family and friends.Surviving family include wife of
56 years, Barbara Anschutz of the home, daughter, Cheryl T. Brock (Travis) of
Wichita, Kansas and son Michael N. Anschutz (Mendi) of Hays, Kansas; sisters
Ellen Spaulding (Mark) of Andover, Kansas and Eileen Keenan (Dennis) of
Overland Park, Kansas; and grandchildren Hannah, Leah, Luke, Jared, Shelby, and
Easton.He was preceded in death by his
parents and sister Joyce Cobb-Barker.A Funeral Mass will be held at
10:30 AM, Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic
Church of Russell. Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be held at 9:00 AM to 5:00
PM, Monday, November 24, 2025, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary. Vigil and
Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM, Monday November 24 at St. Mary, Queen of Angels

R. 'Mick' Prine, 79, peacefully passed away November 18, 2025, at Pioneer Manor
in Hugoton, Kansas with his wife by his side.

R. 'Mick' Prine, 79, peacefully passed away November 18, 2025, at Pioneer Manor
in Hugoton, Kansas with his wife by his side. He was born on February 26, 1946,
to a single mother in Wichita, Kansas, at the Children’s Service League. Hallie
and Wilda Prine were overjoyed when they received the call that they had become
the parents of a baby boy, and his adoption was finalized that June. They
brought him home to Hugoton, where he grew up.
Mick attended Hugoton schools and graduated with the Class of 1964.
In 1965, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, beginning a distinguished 40-year
military career. During his time at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, he met and
married Gayle Trainer of Fort Dodge, Iowa. To this marriage four children were
born: Toby, Heather, Shelly, and Nikki Prine.
Following their divorce, Mick returned to Hugoton in 1979. He rekindled a
friendship with childhood friend Lynda Burditt Hall, and they married in August
of that year. With their marriage, his family grew to include her children,
Pat, Phil, and Cherie Hall.
Mick began working for Panhandle Eastern in 1980, serving at the Hugoton plant
and its surrounding areas in Meade and Rolla, Kansas, as well as Snead, Texas.
He remained with the company for 15 years. He later opened the Mick Prine
Insurance Agency, which he operated for four years, before beginning a career
as a crop adjuster for Farm Bureau and RCIS.
Mick retired from the Army Reserve in 2006 at the rank of Major, completing 40
years of honorable service. One of his most meaningful recognitions was
receiving a Quilt of Valor, presented in gratitude for his dedication and
sacrifice in service to the United States.
Throughout his military career, he earned numerous commendations, including the
Meritorious Service Medal; the Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf
Clusters; the Army Achievement Medal; the Army Good Conduct Medal; the National
Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star; and the Armed Forces Reserve
Medal with Hourglass Device, along with many letters of commendation from
brigade and division commanders. He often said he was most proud of his time as
a Company Commander for an Army Basic Combat Training unit, guiding raw
recruits through their transformation into trained Soldiers.
Mick loved hunting with the boys and taking his family on fishing and camping
trips whenever he could gather everyone together. He enjoyed Country Western
music and dancing, and he especially loved riding his Harley, cruising or
taking trips with Lynda to New Mexico and Colorado. Camping was a favorite
pastime, and he often brought along his beloved mother-in-law, Flossie 'Granny' Burditt.
As the children grew and started families of their own, Mick cherished the
holidays and gatherings that brought everyone home. He delighted in celebrating
milestones, making memories, and welcoming new grandchildren and
great-grandchildren into the family.
During his time at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home, Mick made many new friends and
kept staff and caregivers entertained with his jokes, stories, and humor. He
will be deeply missed by his family, many friends, and his faithful boys,
Wiggins and TB.
Mick was a member of the First Christian Church; a past Master of Hugoton
Masonic Lodge #406; and a member of the Southwest Shrine Club, the Shriners
Motorcycle Unit, and the Fez Patrol.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilda and Hallie Reed Prine.
Mick is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lynda; his children Toby (Jenny)
Prine of Hays, Kansas; Heather (Kent) Waldron of Johnson, Kansas; Shelly Walton
of Gardner, Kansas; Nikki (Charlie) Esquibel of Wichita, Kansas; Pat (Ladonna)
Hall of Hugoton, Kansas; Phil (Connie) Hall of Woodland, California; and Cherie
(Eddie) McLain of Augusta, Kansas. He is also survived by his beloved
grandchildren: Makenzie Droste; Aidan, Hallie, and Landry Waldron; Taylor
(Emerson) Campbell; Alec and Gracie Walton; Emily (Michael) Stefan; Andrew
Prine; Lauren (Jacob) Carpenter; Logan Esquibel; Chase (Erin) Hall; Shalee
(Cam) Gilter; Kate Hall; Tanner Hall; Kristin (Jason) Hill; Skylar (Jandy)
McLain; Scarlette (Reese) Wagner; and Shiah McLain; as well as
great-grandchildren Harrison Campbell; Eleanor and Matthew Stefan; Lyla
Carpenter; Jaxx and Jett Woodington; Peyton and Cooper Gilter; Sophie, Evelyn,
and Oliver Hall; David and Daisy McLain; River and Stella Wagner; Joey and
Benji Hill; and two more expected in 2026. He leaves behind a host of nieces,
nephews, and friends.A
memorial has been established for the First Christian Church, Disabled American
Veterans, and Pioneer Manor Nursing Home (Sunflower Unit), in care of Robson
Funeral Home, PO Box 236, Hugoton, Kansas 67951.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 21, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM at
Robson Funeral Home in Hugoton, with family receiving friends from 6:00 PM to
8:00 PM.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 10:30 AM at the
First Christian Church in Hugoton, with Pastor Bergen Morris officiating.
Burial will follow at the Hugoton Cemetery. The United States Army Honor Guard
and the Hugoton Masonic Lodge #406 will provide special honors in Mick’s
memory.
