Joanna M. Normandin, 91, Hays, died
Monday, July 14, 2025 at Via Christi Village.

She was born July 8, 1934 in Stockton,
the daughter of Meddie and Genevieve (St. Peter) Burton.&nbsp; Joanna was a graduate of Damar High School
with the class of 1952, and on September 1, 1953, she was united in marriage to
Melvin L. Normandin.&nbsp; They celebrated
nearly 61 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on August 4,
2014.&nbsp; She was a member of Immaculate
Heart of Mary Catholic Church, and a former member of St. Joseph Catholic
Church and St. Ann’s Sodality, both in Damar.&nbsp;
Joanna was a loyal KU Jayhawks and Kansas City Chiefs fan, but most of
all, she was a loving mother and grandmother, always caring and praying for her
family.

Survivors include her sons, Ken
Normandin and wife Janet of Valley Center and Joe Normandin and wife Nancy of
Edmond, OK, her daughters, Vali Leis and husband Dan of Hays, and Mary Belisle
and husband Paul of Damar, two brothers, Leo Burton and wife Linda of Lenexa
and Bob Burton and wife Betty of Shawnee, two sisters, Madonna Dodd and husband
Doyle of Wichita and LeAnn Sack of Hays, her sister-in-law, Helga Burton of
Goshen, IN, 12 grandchildren, Brandon Leis, Erin Gibson, Matt Leis, Nick Leis, Jessi
West, Jenna Normandin, Angela Wisecarver, Sarah Hyde, Josh Belisle, Mark
Belisle, Rachael Dreiling, and Eric Belisle, 13 great grandchildren, 3 great-great
grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She
was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers LeRoy and Ron
Burton, a brother-in-law Troy Sack, and two sisters-in-law, Kay Burton and Mary
Burton.

Mass
of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Friday, July 18, 2025 at St. Joseph
Catholic Church in Damar with Fr. Curtis Carlson, OFM Cap. and Fr. Harvey
Dinkel, OFM Cap. officiating. &nbsp;Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
&nbsp;Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 on Thursday at Hays Memorial
Chapel&nbsp;Funeral Home, 1906 Pine Street in Hays, and from 9:00 am until
service time on Friday at the church in Damar. &nbsp;A vigil service and rosary
will be at 6:00 pm on Thursday at the funeral home. &nbsp;Memorials are

Sharon K. Lodovici, age 78,
of Wichita, Kansas, beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother,
great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 10,
2025.

She was born on February 15,
1947, in Salina, Kansas, to Olinto F. 'Shine' and Viola (Schmidtberger) Lodovici.

Sharon will be remembered for
her amazing sense of humor and dedication to her work as a&nbsp;Registered Nurse at the
Veterans Administration Hospital in Wichita, KS, where she worked for&nbsp;35 years.

She grew up in Victoria, KS,
graduated from Victoria High School in 1965, and received her Nursing Degree from Butler
County Community College.

Sharon dedicated her life to
her family, especially her girls, whom she “loved more than you’ll ever
know".&nbsp; &nbsp;She had a passion for casinos, bingo, and quilting. Sharon
never met a stranger and was a friend who offered advice (whether you asked for
it or not) to all. She will be missed by anyone who had the pleasure of knowing
her.

Sharon was a devoted mother
to her children, and is survived by Belinda Rhein (Dean); Cicley Lopez; Angela
McNamee (Joe); Safia Lyon (James); Genny Gadelkarim (Jason), the best 'grandma' to, Christopher;
Kamryn; Kadyn, Anthony; Andreya; Olie; Ozzie; Onna; Leona; and Liam; and a loving
great-'grandma' to Noah; Jordyn; Thomas; and Nico; and a loving sister to her brother Dennis Lodovici;
and a loving sister to her sisters, Anita (Gary) Englert; Vickie (Tom) Martin;
and Gail (Danny) Flax; as well as her beloved but oddball cat, Smokey.

Sharon was preceded in death
by her parents, Olinto and Viola; her brother, Michael; her&nbsp;her sister-in-law, Jean; and
her beloved sister, Lamanda.

A Mass of Christian Burial
will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Basilica of Saint
Fidelis with Celebrant, Father Fred Gatschet with the burial will be in Saint
Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria, Kansas.

Sharon K. Lodovic

Alan Samuel Miller, age 69, of La Crosse, Kansas, passed away on
Monday, June 23, 2025, at HaysMed. He was born on May 20, 1956, in Hays to
Samuel and Arlyn (Wagner) Miller. Alan graduated from La Crosse High School in
1974.

On August 8, 1981, he married Dana E. Corbet in Rhinebeck, New
York. Together they welcomed their daughter, Cecily, on August 10, 1991.

Alan spent most of his career in the construction industry, where
he was a true jack-of-all-trades. He specialized in all aspects of the field —
from heating and air, plumbing, and electrical work to general contracting.
There wasn’t much he couldn’t build, fix, or figure out. He also dedicated over
30 years of weekend nights to serving as an EMT in La Crosse. His commitment to
the community ran deep. He was a member of the Rush County Fire Department
Board, the Rush County Fair Board, a past La Crosse city councilman and mayor,
a softball coach for his daughter’s team, and a frequent volunteer for school
fundraisers.

Later in life, Alan enjoyed ranching at his family’s farm — taking
in bucket calves from area farmers and managing egg deliveries from his flock
of 100+ hens. He was a proud member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and
Pheasants Forever Foundation.

A helper by nature, Alan was known as a good neighbor to everyone,
whether you lived next door or not. He was often found clearing snow from the
EMS building in the early morning hours or chatting with a passerby at his shop
or farm. Outgoing and a little ornery, he passed that spirit on to his only
grandson, Declan, whom he loved watching play soccer.

Alan’s passion for the outdoors included hunting, fishing, and
collecting firearms. He spent many evenings reloading ammunition. After
stepping back from construction, he started two new ventures with his
son-in-law, Richard — H &amp; M Firearms, LLC (a distributor) and Firearms
&amp; Accessory Supply, LLC (a retailer), both located in Hays, Kansas. Alan
will be remembered for his tireless work ethic — always hands-on, always
helping, and never one to leave a job undone.

He is survived by his wife, Dana, of La Crosse; daughter, Cecily
Hodges and her husband, Richard; and grandson, Declan, all of Hays.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, August
1, 2025, at Keithley Funeral Homes and Crematory – Brock’s Chapel, 2509 Vine,
Hays, KS 67601. A come-and-go luncheon will follow the service.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Youth Marksmen

In Loving Memory of Deanna Mary (Ochs) Kennedy

Deanna, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister,
and cherished friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on
July 10, 2025, at the age of 76. Her life was a testament to the power of
kindness, devotion, and unwavering love. Deanna was born on November 4, 1948,
in Quinter, Kansas to Clement &amp; Emma Helen (Gallagher) Ochs &amp; was
raised on the farmstead in southwest Sheridan County.&nbsp; After high school graduation from Sheridan
County High School in 1966, Deanna went on to finish her cosmetology license in
Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; Not long after high school,
Deanna married her high school sweetheart, Max Michael Kennedy on June 10,
1967.&nbsp; Max &amp; Deanna started their
married life in Hays while Max finished his college degree then moved to
Stockton, Kansas where they lived for four years before returning to the farm
in Hoxie, Kansas.

Although Deanna’s greatest joys were spent with her
husband raising their three children, she understood the importance of sharing
her love for others too.&nbsp; She was a woman
whose caring heart knew no limits. Whether it was helping care for an ill
friend, volunteering behind the scenes in her community, or simply sending a
card for every occasion, Deanna always found a way to show others how much she
cared. No birthday, anniversary, or milestone went unacknowledged, and her
thoughtfulness brightened countless lives.

Her love for her family was the center of her world. She
rarely missed a single game or event involving her children and grandchildren.
With her ever-present camera in hand, she captured precious memories, recording
games and taking photos to preserve each moment. At home, she nourished her
family with delicious home-cooked meals with some family favorites of chili,
tacos, sloppy joes, spaghetti, brownies, cookies, homemade hot chocolate and
her famous pecan pies. Thousands of harvest meals were packed with care, always
complete with a mason jar of tea and each one customized with their favorite
candy bar.

Punctual to a fault, she was known to be early to everything,
sometimes sitting in the car honking the horn to hurry her family along. Her
days were filled with simple joys: dancing and traveling with her husband, the
occasional gambling trip, and many years of crushing it in their couple’s
bowling league in Hoxie in the 70s &amp; 80s.&nbsp;
The last fourteen years, mornings were spent at Oscar’s with some dear
friends over a cup of iced tea.

Her community benefitted endlessly from her quiet
dedication. She volunteered for Sodality, the Hospital Auxiliary, carnival &amp;
ballfield concessions, backstage during plays and musicals, and serving on the
SCHS/HHS Alumni Board. She even stepped on the stage of a few NEC productions
many years ago. She never sought recognition—only the satisfaction of helping
others and seeing her community thrive.

Deanna loved deeply and
worried often, always making sure everyone was safe, happy, and cared for. She
leaves behind a legacy of generosity and love that will forever inspire all who
knew her.&nbsp; Deanna is survived by her
husband, Max Kennedy, son Brad Kennedy and fiancé Crystal, Hoxie, son Scott and
wife Tanya Kennedy, Hoxie, and daughter Jodi and husband Brent Rogers, Hoxie,
grandchildren Ashley (Jesse) Miller, Chase (Gabi) Kennedy, Jared Kennedy, Lane
(Jaiden) Kennedy, Josey Kennedy, Mercedes Kennedy, Preston Kennedy, Brookelyn
Kennedy, Paiton Rogers, &amp; Kinley Rogers; and great-grandchildren, Maddi,
Marcus and Jordyn Miller, Amelia and Bodie Kennedy, and Ada Kennedy; sister
Carol Geerdes, brother Dan (Deb) Ochs and nieces &amp; nephews. She is now
reunited with those who went before her, especially her beloved parents, Clem
&amp; Emma Helen Ochs, brother Larry Ochs, and brother-in-law Robert Geerdes. She
will be missed beyond measure, and her absence leaves a space in our hearts
that can never be filled. Though she is gone, her spirit lives on in the
countless lives she touched and the memories she created.

A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, July 14,
2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St Frances Cabrini Church, Hoxie, Kansas. Visitation
will take place on Sunday, July 13 from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Mickey-Leopold
Funeral Home, with family present from 5:30 - 7:00 to receive friends. The
vigil and rosary service will follow the visitation at 7:00 p.m.&nbsp; Memorial donations can be made to either

(Jaiden) Kennedy, Josey Kennedy, Mercedes Kennedy, Preston Kennedy, Brookelyn
Kennedy, Paiton Rogers, &amp; Kinley Rogers; and great-grandchildren, Maddi,
Marcus and Jordyn Miller, Amelia and Bodie Kennedy, and Ada Kennedy; sister
Carol Geerdes, brother Dan (Deb) Ochs and nieces &amp; nephews. She is now
reunited with those who went before her, especially her beloved parents, Clem
&amp; Emma Helen Ochs, brother Larry Ochs, and brother-in-law Robert Geerdes. She
will be missed beyond measure, and her absence leaves a space in our hearts
that can never be filled. Though she is gone, her spirit lives on in the
countless lives she touched and the memories she created.A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, July 14,
2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St Frances Cabrini Church, Hoxie, Kansas. Visitation
will take place on Sunday, July 13 from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Mickey-Leopold
Funeral Home, with family present from 5:30 - 7:00 to receive friends. The

Deanna Mary (Ochs) Kennedy

Patrick Aaron Porter, 62 of
Oakley died on July 9, 2025 at his home southwest of Oakley. He was born on
June 27, 1963 to J.G. (Pete) Porter and Mary Ann (Temaat) Porter in Oakley and
was the youngest of five children. 

Pat grew up in Oakley
attending St. Joseph’s Catholic School and Oakley Public Schools in Jr. High
and High school. He graduated with the class of 1981. Following graduation Pat
farmed with his dad southwest of Oakley. He also worked for short periods of
time for Ed Mildenberger and his uncle and Godfather Al Temaat. 

Inside this big tall man was
a guy with a great big heart. Pat was a friend to all and never knew a
stranger. He was generous and would give you the shirt off his back. He never
missed a chance to say hello and in most cases sit down for a chat. His presence
was big and if Pat was in the room you knew it. 

Pat did not take himself or
life too seriously. He lived to have fun and tell stories. When meeting Pat in
town, you were sure to be greeted with a big loud hello, a huge wave with his
big arm and many times a hug. Next thing he would say was, “Did I ever tell you
about the time………….” and he was off to tell you a story.

Pat loved to have friends at
the farm whether for working cattle or for a party in the barn his Grandfather
Temaat built. Cowboys to help work cattle were treated to steak and cold
libations when the work was done. Pat was very well staffed for working cattle!!!!
Parties in the barn were his favorite and he often had a karaoke machine and
someone to provide wagon rides pulled by a team of horses. 

At Christmas time Pat was
often one of Santa’s helpers, attending family gatherings and riding on the
fire truck in the light parade. Again Pat had stories about this told only the
way Pat could tell a story about kids that loved Santa and kids that were so
afraid they had an accident on Santa’s lap. 

Pat had a very strong faith
being a lifetime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He served as a lector
and a Eucharistic Minister and was active in the Knight of Columbus serving as
the Grand Knight at one time. When ending a phone call with Pat, he would often
say, “you pray for me and I’ll pray for you.” In the last year of his life, Pat
led a rosary weekly at the Logan County Manor for the residents.

Pat’s love of life, kind
heart and joy will be missed by his surviving sisters, Cheryl (Daryl) Goetz,
Park, Pam (Leroy) Schmidtberger, Collyer, Linda (Mark) Butler, Lone Tree, CO,
his brother James B. Porter of Oakley, nine nieces and nephews, many cousins
and many, many friends. Waiting for Patrick in heaven are his parents, many
aunts and uncles and two 1st cousins. 

Visitation is 5-7:00 pm,
with a Vigil at 7:00 pm Monday July 14, 2025 at Baalmann Mortuary in
Oakley. Funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday July 15 at the St.
Joseph Catholic Church, Oakley with burial in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Patrick Aaron Porter

Kurt H. Rall, former
resident of Hoxie, Kansas and Euless, Texas, quietly passed away on July 9,
2025, at the age of 94 at the Arlington Residence and Rehabilitation Center in
Arlington, Texas.

Kurt was born
in Rexford, Kansas, to William and Louise (Gaede) Rall. He graduated from
Sheridan Community High School with the Class of 1950. Following graduation, he
honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps.

On August 26,
1961, Kurt married Wanda Davis at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hoxie, Kansas.
Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and farming. They were
blessed with three children: Diana, Curtis, and Danny.

A lifelong
farmer, Kurt was deeply dedicated to working the land. He was known for his
unwavering work ethic, quiet strength, and profound love for his family. In his
later years, Kurt moved to Euless, Texas, where he lived with his son and
daughter-in-law, Curtis and Kelly Rall. He found joy in their companionship and
care.

Kurt is
survived by his daughter, Diana Gawlik; son, Curtis Rall and wife Kelly of
Euless, Texas; son Danny Rall; brother, Gaehart Rall; numerous grandchildren
and great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He cherished time
spent with his family and leaves behind a legacy of love, humility, and
resilience.

He was preceded
in death by his parents, William and Louise Rall; his sisters, Louise Withers,
Wilma Steier, Mary Owens, Helen Rall, Rosie O’Connell, and Leona Boor; and his
brothers, Ted Rall, Wilfred 'Bob' Rall, Erwin Rall, William 'Bill' Rall Jr,
Larenz Rall, and Elmer E. Rall.

A funeral
service will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Mickey-Leopold
Funeral Home in Hoxie, Kansas. Interment will follow immediately at Hoxie City
Cemetery.

age 70, of Victoria, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at his home.

He was born February 25,
1955, in Hays, Kansas to Aquilinus “Ike” and Albertina (Sander)
Schmidtberger.&nbsp; He married Rachel M. (Ramsey) on November 22, 2015, in
Victoria, Kansas.

Larry was a line worker for
34 years at EnerSys battery plant in Hays, former (Yuasa-Exide).

He grew up in Victoria, and
was a 1973 graduate of Victoria High School.&nbsp; Larry and Rachel were foster
parents for over 8 years for Saint Francis Ministries of Hays, and were named
Foster Parents of the year for 2025.&nbsp; Larry enjoyed working out, his long
walks, bike riding, and close to his heart were his grandkids and family.

He is survived by his wife,
Rachel Schmidtberger, of the home; his children, Michael Schmidtberger and
wife, Marcey, Walker, KS; Richard Schmidtberger and Skeeter Gleason, both of

Larry Joseph Schmidtberger

Judith
Ann Jolly, 77, of Andover, Kansas, passed away peacefully July 4, 2025, after a
battle with cancer.&nbsp; She was born in&nbsp;Beaumont, Texas, August 9, 1947,
to David and Rosalie (Rietcheck) Jolly.&nbsp; Judy was the oldest of nine
children.

Judy
attended&nbsp;elementary school&nbsp;in Hill City,&nbsp;Kansas.&nbsp; She then
attended the Institute of Logopedics in Wichita for the next seven years. Here
she worked with specialists who helped her learn to adapt and overcome the
obstacles of daily living with cerebral palsy.&nbsp;&nbsp;Judy&nbsp;was
determined to live a full and independent life....and she did!

Her first
employment was&nbsp; at the Graham County
Hospital in the purchasing department.&nbsp; She went on to attend Fort Hays
State University. In 1993 she received her bachelor's degree in&nbsp;social work,&nbsp; in conjunction with Kansas State
University.&nbsp;&nbsp;Upon&nbsp;graduating, Judy moved to Kansas City and
worked for&nbsp;the State of Kansas and the Department for Children and
Families Vocational Rehabilitation Services for 19 years.

After
retiring&nbsp;in April of 2014, Judy moved to Andover to be closer to her
family.&nbsp; She enjoyed trips to the mall, eating out at a favorite
restaurant, visiting with friends and family, and sitting outside to enjoy the
beautiful days&nbsp;with a frozen Coke.&nbsp; Judy was an avid&nbsp;sports
fan!&nbsp; She especially&nbsp; enjoyed
cheering on the Chiefs and&nbsp;the K-State Wildcats.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Judy is survived by
her sisters: Pat (Phil) Rath of Newton, Mary Jo (Mike) Foster of Weatherford,
Texas, and Amy (Curt) Champlin of Wichita; three brothers: Mike Jolly of
BelAire, Chris (Linda) Jolly of Towanda, and Ron Jolly of Latham; several
nieces, nephews,&nbsp;and numerous friends.&nbsp; Preceding Judy in death were
her parents, David and Rosalie Jolly; and two brothers, Ken Jolly and Gary
Jolly.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Judy’s courage,
grit, determination, love for life, and love for her family will continue to
inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Judith Ann Jolly

Sister Marise Meis, CSA,
baptized Mary Agnes, died peacefully July 3, 2025, at St. Francis Home, Fond du
Lac, WI.

Mary Agnes was born September 23, 1939, in
Russell, KS, to Servillian (Bill) and Irene Weigel Meis. She was the second
oldest of a family of eight children, two boys and six girls. Inspired by the
Sisters of St. Agnes during her grade school and early high school years, she
entered St. Agnes Convent in 1955 at the age of fifteen with her older sister,
Shirley, now remembered as Sister Mary Rose Meis, CSA.&nbsp; Mary completed her high school education at
St. Agnes High School and continued in formation for religious life. She made
her first profession of vows in the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes as
Sister Marise on August 15, 1959, in Fond du Lac, WI. 

Sister Marise began her life of ministry as an
elementary teacher at St. Patrick’s School in Fond du Lac, and at Holy Family
School, Bronx, NY, while earning her BS in Education from Marian College, Fond
du Lac.&nbsp; During her years in the Bronx,
Sister enrolled in Spanish classes sponsored by the Archdiocese of New York to
better serve the growing Spanish speaking population of the city. Her
increasing proficiency in Spanish, and the influence of her instructors, led
her to volunteer when CSA leadership invited sisters to consider being part of
the congregation’s expanded missionary efforts in Latin America. In 1965, CSA
leadership accepted Sister Marise’s volunteer request. She then began her
journey as a devoted missionary who, for fifty-seven years (1965-2022,) spent
her life “teaching, catechizing, and trying to sow the seed of faith” among the
people she served in Ecuador, Nicaragua, and Honduras. She came back to the USA
for brief periods during these years, yet she always returned immersing herself
among the people she had come to love. 

Supported by courses in intercultural studies and
Spanish at the Catholic University of Puerto Rico, Sister Marise spent her
first month as a missionary in Managua, Nicaragua.&nbsp; She was then assigned to teach 1st
grade at the Cardinal Spellman Bilingual School for Boys, Quito, Ecuador (1966-1967).
She returned to Nicaragua where she served most of her missionary years in
parish communities and local universities along the Atlantic Coast,
specifically in Rosita and Puerto Cabezas. She taught classes in English as a
second language to elementary, high school, and university level students. She
served as a catechist and pastoral presence in parishes and mission villages.
She helped form a generation of catechists who continue to serve as Ministers
of the Word especially in rural areas where priestly presence is minimal. From
1998 – 2001, Sister was an instructor in a special language program in La
Ceiba, Honduras. 

Sister Marise also served in leadership roles
among her CSA sisters in Latin America including eight years as their regional
coordinator and in the formation program for young women preparing for
religious life. She was the contact person for Holy Family Parish, Fond du Lac,
while they were a sister parish with Santa Rosa de Lima Parish in Rosita,
Nicaragua. She is beloved among the people for her joyful presence, her
untiring dedication to ministry, and her respect for their culture and customs
which formed a lasting bond between them that remains to this day. 

In June of 2022, Sister Marise returned to Fond du
Lac to receive care for her declining health at Nazareth Court &amp; Center.
She was subsequently admitted to St. Francis Home where she received loving
care until the time of her death. The people of Nicaragua mourn her loss,
together with her family and her CSA sisters. 

Preceding Sister Marise in death were her parents
and her sisters, Yvonne Rodriguez, Geraldine Henning, and Sister Mary Rose
Meis, CSA.

Sister is survived by her sisters Katherine (Jeff)
Plank, Christine Hadley; her brothers Father Peter Meis, OFM Cap, Michael Meis;
her brother-in-law, Richard Henning; her nieces, nephews and their families,
and the Sisters of St. Agnes with whom she lived, prayed, and ministere<a>d.</a>

All services for Sister
Marise will be held on Monday, July 14, 2025.

Visitation will be held
from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. at Nazareth Court and
Center, 375 Gillett Street, Fond du Lac, WI.

A Prayer Service will be
held at 11:00 a.m. in Nazareth Center Chapel, 375 Gillett Street, Fond du Lac, WI.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be offered at
2:00 p.m. in St. Francis Home Chapel, 33 Everett Street, Fond du Lac, WI, with
Bishop Paul Schmitz, OFM Cap., presiding. 

Burial of cremains will follow in St. Joseph
Springs Cemetery, Fond du Lac, WI.

oldest of a family of eight children, two boys and six girls. Inspired by the
Sisters of St. Agnes during her grade school and early high school years, she
entered St. Agnes Convent in 1955 at the age of fifteen with her older sister,
Shirley, now remembered as Sister Mary Rose Meis, CSA.&nbsp; Mary completed her high school education at
St. Agnes High School and continued in formation for religious life. She made
her first profession of vows in the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes as
Sister Marise on August 15, 1959, in Fond du Lac, WI. Sister Marise began her life of ministry as an

Sister Marise Meis, CSA, baptized Mary Agnes

Mickey Lynn Teel, 68, of Russell,
Kansas, passed away on June 29, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with
cancer, surrounded by her family at her home in Russell.

Mickey was born on April 06, 1957,
in Russell, Kansas, the daughter of Raymond H. and Gloria (Goetz) Teel.&nbsp; She grew up and lived her whole life in
Russell, Kansas, and graduated from Russell High School in the class of
1975.&nbsp; She met and fell in love with
Steve Long on October 16, 1978. From this union they were blessed with 2
wonderful sons. She was always so proud of her boys and loved them both very
much. She worked for various companies in the Russell area, working for the
Public Broadcasting Service in Bunker Hill, Kansas, in director
development.&nbsp; She also worked for KRSL
Radio Station as an advertising sales representative.&nbsp; She was most known for the last 20 years as a
flower designer for Lana’s Flower Company, LLC and after purchasing the flower
shop in 2017 she was the owner and operator of the flower shop before selling
the shop in 2023.&nbsp; She was a member of
St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Russell and raised the money for Ad Astra Per
Aspera on the State Capitol.&nbsp; She worked very
diligently to make the flower shop successful.&nbsp;
She enjoyed going to concerts with friends. She loved spending time with
her family and loved her dog Baxter. He went everywhere with her. 

Mickey is survived by her sons
Heath Long and wife Terri of Russell, Kansas and Jerod Long and wife Shayla of
Bunker Hill, Kansas; sister Lana Brock of Russell, Kansas; four grandchildren
Tanner and Bryce Long and Camden and Tatum Denning and three great
grandchildren Kinslee, Hadlie and Izabella.&nbsp;
She was preceded in death by her parents.

James E. (Jim) Hinkhouse

Irene Marie LaBarge, 88, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother
passed away peacefully Monday, July 7, 2025, at home in Ellis surrounded by her
family. She was born March 18, 1937, to George and Alma (Brin) Newell in Damar,
KS. On April 11, 1955, Irene was united in marriage to Vernon Lawrence LaBarge.

Irene is survived by her children; Martin (Debbie) LaBarge, Leland
LaBarge, Verlene (Charlie) Waldschmidt, Leonard LaBarge, and Kevin (Vicki)
LaBarge. Her legacy lives on through 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren,
and five great-great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense pride and
joy.

A lifelong homemaker, Irene created a warm and welcoming home
where everyone felt loved and cared for. She had a special gift for making
people feel so loved often over a home-cooked meal or a friendly game of cards.
Irene enjoyed the simple joys of life: fishing, camping, crocheting, cooking,
and above all, spending time with her family. Her home was always full of
laughter, delicious food, and the hum of conversations between those she loved
most. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she never missed a chance to
share in their lives, celebrate their milestones, or offer a listening ear.

Irene was also deeply committed to her community. She was a proud
member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic
Church, where she found strength and purpose in her faith.

Irene was preceded in death by both of her parents, her husband
Vernon, sister Evangeline LaBarge (Newell), and brother Jasper Newell.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Irene’s
memory to St. Mary’s Catholic School – Ellis, Kansas and the St. Jude’s
Children’s Hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday July 11, 2025 at 10:00 AM.
Viewing and visitation will be Thursday July 10, 2025 from 5 PM to 7 PM with a

Irene Marie LaBarge

Mary Lue Deines, age 87, passed away on July 2, 2025, at
Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney, KS.

She was born on April 29, 1938, in Aleppo, KS, to Joseph and
Anna (Engelbrecht) Opat. Mary graduated from Trego Community High School with
the Class of 1956. On October 20, 1958, she married the love of her life,
LaVerne “Vernie” Deines, in Collyer, KS. Together, they shared 57 wonderful
years of marriage until Vernie’s passing on November 28, 2015.

Mary’s working life began at the Kent Café in WaKeeney.
After marrying Vernie, the two became a familiar and trusted pair in the
service station world — owning and operating Vernie’s Service Station in
WaKeeney before their work led them to Dodge City, Garden City, Salina, and
Ellis. Wherever they went, Mary and Vernie worked side by side doing what they
loved: caring for vehicles and serving customers with honesty and heart. They
eventually returned to WaKeeney, continuing their shared passion for keeping cars
clean and customers happy. Later in life, both took great pride in serving
their community as custodians for USD 208.

Though Mary and Vernie were not blessed with children of
their own, they poured their love into their many nieces and nephews, building
lifelong bonds filled with laughter and care. Their home and hearts were also
filled with love for their dogs, classic cars, and spirited bingo nights —
simple joys that brought them genuine happiness.

Mary is survived by her brother, Eugene Opat of WaKeeney,
along with many nieces and nephews who loved and cherished her deeply.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vernie;
her parents, Joseph and Anna Opat; her brother, Jim Opat; and sisters, Betty
Fry, Dorothy Mong, and Barbara Opat.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025,
at 10:00 a.m. at WaKeeney City Cemetery, located at South 13th St. and South

Mary Lue Deines

Shirley (Underwood) Smith, 88, of Hays, Kansas, passed away
on May 14, 2025, at HaysMed, Hays, Kansas. She was born on October 11, 1936, in
Bird City, Cheyenne County, Kansas, the daughter of Irvin and Dorothy
(McTaggart) Underwood. A lifelong Kansan and beloved educator, Shirley will be
remembered for her warm smile, dedicated work ethic, sense of humor and caring
heart.

Shirley grew up in Bird
City, where she graduated from Bird City Rural High School in 1955. After high
school, she pursued her passion for teaching at Fort Hays State University,
where she earned her teaching degree and later completed a master’s degree.
Education was very important to Shirley, and she carried a love of learning
throughout her life.

After completing her
education, Shirley embarked on a 34-year teaching career in the Hays, Kansas,
school system. Throughout her tenure, she inspired countless students with her
enthusiasm for learning and her nurturing guidance. Colleagues remember her as
a dedicated educator who touched many lives and was highly respected in the
community.

On June 7, 1959,
Shirley married her sweetheart, Ralph J. Smith, Jr., in Bird City, Kansas. They
shared 40 happy years together, cherishing family gatherings, community events,
and quiet moments at home, until Ralph’s passing on May 4, 1999. Shirley treasured
her family and took great pride in the accomplishments of her nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; her parents, Irvin
and Dorothy Underwood; and her brothers, Wallace and Warren Underwood.

Shirley is survived by
her nieces and nephews, Tammy (Underwood) Zimbelman of Emporia, Kansas; Brad

family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Fort Hays State
University Athletic Scholarship Fund in Shirley’s memory.

on May 14, 2025, at HaysMed, Hays, Kansas. She was born on October 11, 1936, in
Bird City, Cheyenne County, Kansas, the daughter of Irvin and Dorothy
(McTaggart) Underwood. A lifelong Kansan and beloved educator, Shirley will be
remembered for her warm smile, dedicated work ethic, sense of humor and caring
heart.Shirley grew up in Bird
City, where she graduated from Bird City Rural High School in 1955. After high
school, she pursued her passion for teaching at Fort Hays State University,
where she earned her teaching degree and later completed a master’s degree.
Education was very important to Shirley, and she carried a love of learning
throughout her life.After completing her
education, Shirley embarked on a 34-year teaching career in the Hays, Kansas,
school system. Throughout her tenure, she inspired countless students with her
enthusiasm for learning and her nurturing guidance. Colleagues remember her as
a dedicated educator who touched many lives and was highly respected in the
community.On June 7, 1959,
Shirley married her sweetheart, Ralph J. Smith, Jr., in Bird City, Kansas. They
shared 40 happy years together, cherishing family gatherings, community events,
and quiet moments at home, until Ralph’s passing on May 4, 1999. Shirley treasured
her family and took great pride in the accomplishments of her nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; her parents, Irvin
and Dorothy Underwood; and her brothers, Wallace and Warren Underwood.Shirley is survived by
her nieces and nephews, Tammy (Underwood) Zimbelman of Emporia, Kansas; Brad
(Susan) Underwood of Champaign, Illinois; Kim (Roseanna) Underwood of Bird

Kenneth
Kisner (70) of Wichita Falls, TX passed away on July 4, 2025, at Wichita Falls
Hospice, with his wife Connie by his side. Kenneth was born Kenneth Dean Kisner
to Isaidore P. Kisner and Mathilda M. Werth Kisner in Hays, Kansas on December
8, 1954.&nbsp; He was the first of four
children, which included two brothers, Keith and Kurt, and one sister, Kelley.
They were raised on the family farm and ranch just south of Hays.

As
a youth, Ken was well trained in crop and cattle/livestock production. He also
learned the skill of hand milking a small heard of dairy cows on a daily basis.
Therefore, he maintained a strong work ethic in his life’s work and career
pursuits. 

Ken
attended Catholic grade school and graduated from Hays High School. He was a
Saxophone player in band. He attended Fort Hays State University and graduated
with a degree in Business in 1980.&nbsp; Ken
would often laugh and tease that he had kneeled enough in church as a youth,
that the Lord would surely forgive a small indiscretion as an adult. His home
church was St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays.

Ken
met Connie S. Oelkers Flamik in the fall of 1977. She was a young, widowed
mother of an active three-year-old toddler, Tyler. The three of them formed a
lasting bond almost immediately. They spent their first Christmas together that
year while meeting their families. They were married 2½ years later on June 1,
1979. In addition, through love and commitment, Ken took on the additional
responsibility of adopting Tyler as his own. Then ten months later another son,
Trevor, was born to complete the family of four.

Ken
had a thirty-year career working for several Farm Credit Associations. He was
first hired by the 9th Farm Credit District Office in Wichita,
Kansas and was trained in their application and loan work process through
Production Credit Association. As is often said, “You can take the boy out of
the farm, but not the farm out of the boy!”&nbsp;
Ken held positions at various points in time as a Loan Officer,
Appraiser, Inspector, Manager, Regional Appraiser, and Vice President. During
his career, they moved through three states including Kansas, Oklahoma, and
Texas, eventually settling in Wichita Falls for thirty-eight years. He retired
from Capital Farm Credit in 2010.

After
retirement, Ken started his own business known as Texoma Ag Valuations where he
did agriculture and industrial related chattel appraisals and inspections. He
established customers in numerous states, through lending institutions, banks,
and individuals. He was highly regarded as someone who was ethical,
professional, honest, trustworthy, reliable, and enjoyable to work with.

Ken
was a member of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, the
International Society of Livestock Appraisers, and the American Society of Farm
Equipment Appraisers. He had completed training in Constructive Agriculture
Lending through Farm Credit Services and was certified through Auction Insight
Certified Appraisers. Ken was also employed with the SAM division of the
Federal Government as an Independent Contractor, doing appraisal and inspection
work for several USDA offices.

Ken
was an athletic individual and loved being outside. He enjoyed playing
basketball, tennis, and golf. As time and responsibilities became more
prominent in his life he took up walking two miles a day. During his time in
college, he worked for a garden center and learned the art of landscaping. He
carried that knowledge throughout his life.

Ken
was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. He held onto his strong belief
in Christ from his earliest teachings. In addition, Ken was a beloved husband,
father, and friend. He will be greatly missed, and we look forward to reuniting
with him in Heaven. Until then, we know that he will forever be around us and
in our hearts.

is survived by his wife, Connie; two sons, Trevor Kisner and Tyler Kisner and
wife Liberty, and their family: Lawson Kisner, Geordy Deatherage and wife
Madison, and Logan Deatherage.&nbsp;

Kenneth Kisner 

Andrew Keith Pfannenstiel, 48, went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 17, 2025. Andy was born on June 9, 1976, to Duane (Whitey) Pfannenstiel and Sally Jo (Mapes) Hanhardt. 

Andy grew up in Stockton and graduated from Stockton High School. He continued his education at Kansas State University and Fort Hays State University.  He later received his Master’s Degree at Arizona School of Health Sciences in Mesa, Arizona. Andy earned the title of Physician Assistant-Certified from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Elite Health of Colorado was Andy’s growing and successful business.  Andy’s warmth and genuine care for his patients grew his practice and added a new meaning to 'Elite Healthcare'! 

'Dad' was his title!  Sophia Joelle, 17, Brooks Alexander, 15, and Scarlett Elyse, 14, were loved and nurtured by their dad.  Andy and all three children were baptized together at New Life Church in Colorado Springs on May 9, 2025.  Their family activities kept their lives busy, productive, and happy. On a family picture in their home, the inscription read, “To the world you are a dad.  To our family you are the world.”&nbsp;

Andy is mourned and survived by his mother, Sally Jo Hanhardt, Hays, his father, Duane Pfannenstiel and wife Becky, stepmom, and brother Jesse, all of Topeka.  His step-sisters, Shelly Green (Matt) of Cody, Wyoming and Betsy Wagner (Travis) of Olathe, and their families.

 Proceeding him in death were his stepdad, Roger Hanhardt, his grandparents Keith and Maxine Mapes, and Connie and Marcella Pfannenstiel. Leaving to mourn his loss are his aunts, uncles, and cousins, many friends, football buddies, colleagues at hospitals and Urgent Care Clinics throughout Kansas, Arizona and Colorado.

 Andy’s best one liner was a question I would ask him before he hung up from our daily phone call.  “What are you going to do today son?”  His answer was, “I’m going to work to stomp out disease and save lives.”  And that is what he did.  Andy was loved. A celebration of life for Andy will be held on June 27th from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Woodmoor Barn Community Center located at 1691 Woodmoor Dr. Monument, Co.

 Andy’s memorial service will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church, 2000 Main Street, Hays, Ks. at 10:00 am on July 12th 2025. Memorials should be made to Andrew Pfannenstiel. These funds will be used for the children’s education.

Andrew Keith Pfannenstiel

Anita Loraine Mead, age 76, graduated to heaven on June 27,
2025, passing peacefully at her home in WaKeeney, KS. She was born on January
19, 1949, in Garden City, KS, to Glenn and Dixie (Pash) Moore.

On May 25, 1968, Anita married the love of her life, Dennis
Mead, in Garden City. He graduated to heaven on April 5, 2007, and Anita has
missed him every day since. The two were high school sweethearts, both
graduating from Garden City High School, where their lifelong journey as
soulmates began.

Anita continued her education, ultimately earning a master’s
degree in Higher Education Administration through studies at Friends University
and Fort Hays State University. Her professional journey reflected her
dedication to serving others—working in various roles at law offices, Cargill,
Garden City Community College, Fort Hays State University, and US BioEnergy.

She is survived by her daughter, Tiffany (Joe) Bolen; her
grandson, Chace; her sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Gary Weber; and her
nephew, Jake Weber.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dennis
Mead, and her parents, Glenn and Dixie Moore.

A Celebration of Life and Praises to Our Father God will be
held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Generations Church in
WaKeeney, KS. Pastor Robby Hernandez will guide the celebration.

 </figure>Anita Loraine Mead, age 76, graduated to heaven on June 27,
2025, passing peacefully at her home in WaKeeney, KS. She was born on January
19, 1949, in Garden City, KS, to Glenn and Dixie (Pash) Moore.On May 25, 1968, Anita married the love of her life, Dennis
Mead, in Garden City. He graduated to heaven on April 5, 2007, and Anita has
missed him every day since. The two were high school sweethearts, both
graduating from Garden City High School, where their lifelong journey as
soulmates began.Anita continued her education, ultimately earning a master’s
degree in Higher Education Administration through studies at Friends University
and Fort Hays State University. Her professional journey reflected her
dedication to serving others—working in various roles at law offices, Cargill,
Garden City Community College, Fort Hays State University, and US BioEnergy.She is survived by her daughter, Tiffany (Joe) Bolen; her
grandson, Chace; her sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Gary Weber; and her
nephew, Jake Weber.She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dennis
Mead, and her parents, Glenn and Dixie Moore.A Celebration of Life and Praises to Our Father God will be
held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Generations Church in

Anita Loraine Mead

Brian Thomas Brungardt, age 38 of Hays, Kansas passed away at his
home on June 18, 2025, in Hays.

He was born June 2, 1987, in Hays to James R. and Michele R.
(Morton) Brungardt, the second of their three sons.

In his younger days Brian enjoyed a number of family activities.
Visits to each set of grandparents over the holidays took place annually.
Summer vacations to Colorado always brought pleasant memories.

Smiles were provided by many rides and activities at the county
and state fairs. Brian developed close friendships with a number of school
classmates. He was active in Cub and Boy Scouts activities at this time and
enjoyed camping out with his fellow scouts. Many weekends during the summer
were spent at the family cabin at Cedar Bluff Lake. An annual family activity
was "June Birthdays" - Brian and his brother Neil and three of his
six cousins all had birthdays in June. Along with the great food that mom provided,
great times were had on the boat riding on a tube and fishing with advice given
from his older brother Neil. Brian's biggest catch was when he hooked dad's ear
up by the dam. He enjoyed golf cart and jet ski rides - first as a passenger
and by himself later when he was older.

Brian graduated from Hays High in 2006 and from Fort Hays State
University in 2013, with a degree in history. During these years he gained
valuable experience from his work at Carlos O'Kelly's, Humane Society of the
High Plains, Adronics/Elrob, Hays Daily News, Quizno's and Pepsi. Another
milestone in Brian's life that had a positive impact on him was his trip to
Spain with two friends that involved walking a portion of the Camino de
Santiago over several days with the destination being the Cathedral of Santiago
de Compostela in Galicia, Spain.

He had a passion for history and often visited museums when
traveling. This interest started at an early age - as a kid he was crazy about
dinosaurs. He knew of so many species and could identify them by the mounted
skeletons. He expanded his interest in museums to include virtually every item
on display.

Many of Brian's family travels were not complete without a zoo
stop. It didn't matter what size the zoo was — he was ready to go.

Music had a special place in Brian's interests. He played an
instrument in the middle school band as well as trying his hand at playing
guitar in his free time at home. Like so many of his friends, Brian had quite a
collection of games, CD's and DVD’s. Many songs and videos were sent to family
and friends.

Mayhem Festival.Sports and food were also favorites with Brian. He got a lot of
enjoyment attending the Wichita Thunder hockey games as well as an occasional
baseball game with the family in Oklahoma City. Golf his way was with a
frisbee. Brian was game to try about any kind of food set in front of him. You
never knew what kind of unique combinations he would create. It was usually
made spicy hot from his condiment collection. He did find out that you don't
use sriracha sauce like ketchup.Brian was witty and articulate with a great sense of humor.
Sometimes this talent was not understood by some but overall most people got
it. He loved his cat, Kittyoko, that he inherited from a friend. She was such a
beautiful cat with quite the attitude. She probably only cared for two people
in her lifetime and Brian was one of them.He is survived by his parents, James and Michele Brungardt of Hays
and his brothers Neil of Beverly, KS and Brett of Oklahoma City. Aunts and
uncles Tom and Judy Brungardt of Pratt, KS, Allen Brungardt of Colorado
Springs, Craig Morton of Atwood, KS and Mike and Carla Starns of Independence,
KS.He was preceded in death by his grandparents Tom and Maud
Brungardt Sr, Edward and Marge Morton and an aunt, Barbara Morton.Brian loved deeply and was deeply loved. He will be missed.A celebration of Brian's life will be held at 11:00 AM on
Wednesday, July 16, 2025, with a memorial visitation starting at 10:00 AM at
Keithley Funeral Homes and Crematory - Brock's Chapel, located at 2509 Vine St
in Hays.In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to
Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas (DSNWK), Hays, KS or Community
Assistance Center, Hays, KS in care of the funeral chapel.
