Janet Lin Loomis, 85, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Friday, September 25, 2026, at her home with her family by her side.
Jan was born June 2, 1941, in Warsaw, Indiana. She was one of seven children born to Claude and Mildred (Lowry) Rhodes. She grew up in Tippecanoe, Indiana, and graduated from Tippecanoe High School in the Class of 1959.
In 1961, she moved to West Memphis, Arkansas with her parents and sisters, Linda and Judy. She worked at Loose Leaf Note Book. It was here that she met Navy sailor Charles Loomis in 1962.
Jan was united in marriage to Charles on December 30, 1963, in Charles’ home town of Fredonia, Kansas. This union was blessed with three children: Kristina, Myra and Cory. They made their home in Corpus Christi, Texas and finally to Russell, Kansas.
Jan was a devoted wife and homemaker for her children. She also worked from 1981 to 1991 as a Custodian for the USD 407 middle school. She was very active as a Den Mother and Scout leader for the Russell Boy Scouts Troop 118. She enjoyed playing and coaching girls’ softball. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, and playing Golf. She achieved 2 hole-in-ones on the #3 at the Russell Public Golf Course. Jan preferred to be called Jan instead of Janet.
