Dorothy I. “Dottie” Kraus, age 97, formerly of Hays, died Saturday, May 20, 2023, in Omaha, Nebraska.

She was born August 14, 1925 in Fort Scott, Kansas to Herman Sr. and Grace (Reinecke) Harris. &nbsp;

She graduated valedictorian from Kinsley High School, Kinsley, Kansas in 1943 and Fort Hays State University with a BS degree in home economics in 1947. &nbsp;

She married Kenneth Kraus on June 1, 1947 in Hays, Kansas.

Dottie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hays and served on many committees in the church through the years. 

She was a lifetime member of Fort Hays State University Alumni Association, Fort Hays Half Century Club, Chapter #228 Eastern Star, a lifetime member of the national sorority Sigma Sigma Sigma for over 27 years, lifetime member of the Hays Medical Center auxiliary, and in 1983, she and her husband were awarded the Kansas Master Farmer/Homemaker for Ellis County.&nbsp; 

In addition to her many service and volunteer activities she was a dedicated and devoted help to her husband Ken.&nbsp; While maintaining the family home she ran numerous farming errands, did chores around the farm, and kept all the books so necessary for a dairy business.&nbsp; In spite of being a busy farmer’s wife, she and Ken made time to attend many basketball and football games at Fort Hays and were very supportive fans of the Tigers! Her most favorite activities, however, were with family, traveling, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. Also, Dottie always expressed how proud she was to be married to such a wonderful husband, Ken, and having celebrated nearly 74 years of marriage.

Survivors include her daughter Pam (Gordon) Henrickson of Omaha, NE, son Steve (Pattie) Kraus of Atlanta, GA, grandchildren Aaron (Ruthie) Henrickson and Emily Kraus, great-grandchild Nate Jarrow, two cousins, Max and Dennis Reinecke, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Ken, her parents, and two brothers, Vern and Herman Harris Jr.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at Fort Hays Memorial Gardens with Rev. Delbert Stanton officiating.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 on Wednesday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.&nbsp;

Gary Chris Madsen, 75, of Colby passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Citizens Medical Center in Colby, KS. Gary was born February 5, 1948, in Colby, KS and was adopted by Christopher C. and Marie W. (Woerpel) Madsen, also in 1948. Gary was blessed with a bonus family, Ralph E. and Mary J. Mead (Mom and Dad) and their sons Roy, Bill and Chris, of Colby, KS. He graduated from Colby High School in 1966 and married Regina K. Bussen, of Wallace, KS, in 1968. Gary and Regina had two children, Bryan Chris and Pamela Kay. Later in life, Gary met his soulmate, Janice (McDowall) Madsen. They resided in Lane, KS for several years, before moving back to Colby in 2019. They married on December 1, 2000, in Paola, KS and he was blessed again with a bonus daughter, Meagan McKenzie. Gary was drafted into service in the U.S. Army in 1968 and completed basic training at Ft. Sill, OK.

After service, Gary worked as a plumber and HVAC technician in Colby for several years before moving to Paola, KS and finishing his career as a facilities manager. Throughout his life, Gary was an avid outdoorsman and knife collector, and he passed his love (and skills) for camping, hunting and fishing on to his children and many grandchildren. Gary was preceded in death by his parents Chris and Marie; bonus parents Ralph and Mary; brother Daniel and grandson Jacob Madsen (Bryan and Briana). He is survived by his wife Janice of Colby; children Bryan (Briana) Madsen of Olathe, KS, Pam (Richard) Thompson of Claflin, KS and Meagan (Michael Harper) of Cambria, IL; stepdaughters Shannon (Derek) Reilley of Colby and Heather (Steve) Faber of Ashkum, IL; and bonus brothers Roy, Bill and Chris Mead. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, Cody, Cayley, Colby, Carlie and Dezaray (Bryan and Briana); Riley and Cale (Pam and Richard); Troy, Jess, Courtney, Landon and Aden (Shannon and Derek); Steven, Anderson and Francis (Heather and Steve); Chase, Alyssa, Declan and Elnora (Meagan and Michael); great-grandchildren include Kash (Troy and Sandra); Paisely and Adley (Jess and Mauricio); Charlie (Courtney and Nate); and Avery (Alyssa). Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby, KS followed by a graveside service on Friday, May 26 at 10:00 am at Beulah Cemetery, Colby, KS.

Marvel L. (Leidig) Boston, 85, of Washington, passed away May 14th.

Marvel (Leidig) Boston was born on February 12th, 1938 to Cecil and Dorthy (Finch) Leidig.&nbsp; Marvel was the second oldest of nine children.&nbsp; 

From an early age, Marvel’s personality shone through as she provided care for her siblings.&nbsp; Young children always were special in her eyes.&nbsp; 

Marvel met her future husband Robert Boston while rollerskating and they were married on November 20th, 1955.&nbsp; To this union were born Debbie, Kim, and Tammie.

Marvel dedicated her life to her family and friends.&nbsp; In addition to raising her three children, she was record keeper for the family.&nbsp; The farm's financials and calendar, the weather, the growing generations, she kept track of the flow of the family.&nbsp; Marvel never just stood by.&nbsp; Some farm tasks just require two sets of hands and Marvel was always there to work the fields, put up hay, repair equipment or go for parts and supplies as long as she could be home by the time the kids got off the bus. No matter the task at hand, she was always there to support her husband, encourage her children and mentor her grandchildren.&nbsp; 

Whether it was planting, harvesting, working cattle, making furniture, cooking, crafting, vacationing, hunting or dancing, Marvel was intensely interested and engaged with her life.&nbsp; Marvel served others first. &nbsp; She would be the first up to set the table for others and the last to eat herself.&nbsp; Marvel lived a life of love, loyalty, and exploration with a passion that can only be described as fierce.

Marvel (Leidig) Boston passed from this life on May 14th, 2023 at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community in Manhattan, KS at the age of 85 years.&nbsp; Marvel was proceeded in death by her husband Robert (Bob) Boston; son Kim Boston; and daughter Tammie Fournier; brother Lonnie Leidig; sisters Joyal Crain, Celia Schmidt and Linda Leidig; brothers-in-law Ernie Scheetz and Robert (Bill) Shorman.

&nbsp;She is survived by her sisters Zetta Scheetz, Carol Shorman, and Wilma (Maceo)&nbsp; Leatherwood; brother Jerry (Susan (Sue)) Leidig; daughter Debbie (David(Dave)) Nutsch; daughter-in-law Georgia Boston; son-in-law Kirk Fournier; sister-in-law Peggy Leidig; brother-in-law Richard Schmidt; seven grandchildren;&nbsp; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., at the Morrowville Christian Church burial will follow at the Washington City Cemetery.

Visitation with family greeting friends will be Friday, May 26th, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., at the Morrowville Christian Church.

Strengthened by the sacraments of the Church, Francis Mathew Soukup was called home by his Heavenly Father on May 22, 2023 after defying many odds in his battle against cancer.

Frank was born October 21, 1953 to Raymond and Clare Soukup in the Ellsworth Hospital. 

He was joined in holy matrimony to Jeanette Marie Korf on August 2, 1975. They raised four children: Matthew (Chrissie) of St. Louis, Missouri, Laura (John) Schlessiger of Claflin, Kansas, Daniel (Delena) of Overland Park, Kansas, and Br. Karel, OSB, of Atchison, Kan.&nbsp;

Always intimately involved in the formation and education of his children, Frank was troop leader of the St. Rose Boy Scouts in Great Bend from 1983–1990 and taught catechism at St. Anthony’s Parish in Lakin, Kan. He was a true disciple of Jesus, demonstrating his faith by his many selfless acts of love for his family and community. He never missed a game, concert or event of any kind.&nbsp;

Francis earned a bachelor of science degree from Fort Hays State University in 1990 and afterward dedicated his life to public service as city administrator of Lakin, Kansas from 1991–2006, city manager of Kingman, Kansas from 2006–2014, and business manager for the Ellsworth Correctional Facility from 2014 until his retirement in 2021. He was a member of the board of directors of the Kansas Power Pool and served a term as its president. 

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Lions Club and Rotary.

Frank is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, his children and twelve grandchildren, as well as siblings Louise (Leo), Steve (Janie), Jim (Caroline), Pat (Dio) and Fred, and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Tom (Carla) and Mike (Karan), sister Joni, and grandchildren Max, Ian, Jay and Molly.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, from noon to 5:00 p.m., with family receiving guests from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and vigil with Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:00 p.m., all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington, Kan.&nbsp;

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Claflin, Kan. Interment will follow at Claflin Cemetery.&nbsp;

He was joined in holy matrimony to Jeanette Marie Korf on August 2, 1975. They raised four children: Matthew (Chrissie) of St. Louis, Missouri, Laura (John) Schlessiger of Claflin, Kansas, Daniel (Delena) of Overland Park, Kansas, and Br. Karel, OSB, of Atchison, Kan.&nbsp;Always intimately involved in the formation and education of his children, Frank was troop leader of the St. Rose Boy Scouts in Great Bend from 1983–1990 and taught catechism at St. Anthony’s Parish in Lakin, Kan. He was a true disciple of Jesus, demonstrating his faith by his many selfless acts of love for his family and community. He never missed a game, concert or event of any kind.&nbsp;Francis earned a bachelor of science degree from Fort Hays State University in 1990 and afterward dedicated his life to public service as city administrator of Lakin, Kansas from 1991–2006, city manager of Kingman, Kansas from 2006–2014, and business manager for the Ellsworth Correctional Facility from 2014 until his retirement in 2021. He was a member of the board of directors of the Kansas Power Pool and served a term as its president. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Lions Club and Rotary.Frank is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, his children and twelve grandchildren, as well as siblings Louise (Leo), Steve (Janie), Jim (Caroline), Pat (Dio) and Fred, and many nieces and nephews. Ronald Haselhorst, 68, of Palatine, IL, passed away Tuesday, May 2, at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, IL, after a long fight with Parkinson's disease, further complicated by recent surgery. 

Born May 10, 1954, in Hays, KS, he was one of six children born to Merlin and Theresa Haselhorst. 

Ron studied English and business at Fort Hays State University and Kansas State University. 

In 1979, he married Christel Thyfault of Damar, KS. 

Ron built a successful career in the medical device field, specializing in quality and regulatory affairs, which took him and his family from Kansas to Mississippi, finally settling in Illinois. 

Ron was widowed in 2002 and remarried in 2016 to Jeanne "Jojo" Hennick of Palatine, IL. Whether you knew him as Dad, Ron, or Ronnie Refund, it is certain he touched your life in some way! He was a devoted husband, father, and friend.

Ron enjoyed everything about music: writing, playing, and attending concerts. In his free time, you could find Ron telling great stories, cooking, reading, discussing politics, and attending workout classes at the NeuroBalance Center. Ron will forever be remembered for loyalty, musical taste, and quick wit. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Jeanne Haselhorst.; daughters Rachel Haselhorst of Chicago; Tara Ruff and her husband Lucas, of Sycamore, and stepdaughter Kate Hennick of South Korea; his sisters and brothers Karen Shotwell, Mark Haselhorst, Janet Schmidt, Lori Conway, and Jon Haselhorst.

Leslie E. Davis, age 71, passed away at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas on May 20, 2023. He was born on July 13, 1951, to Jesse Vernon and Phyllis Irene Stegman Davis in Ransom, Kansas. 

He was a member of the Scott City community since 1971, having moved from Brownell, Kansas. He was the owner and operator of Ag-Air Conditioning Service in Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp;

On May 26, 1972, Leslie married Mary Ann Roths in Ransom, Kansas. She survives.

Survivors include his wife, son Daniel &amp; Kristina Davis of Fort Wayne, Indiana, brothers Leonard and Kathy Davis of Clearwater, Kansas, Norman Green, Jr. of York, Nebraska, brother-in-law Alan and Cindy Roths of Ransom, Kansas, sisters-in-law Diane and David Reddig of Manhattan, Kansas,&nbsp; Carol Walker of Ransom, Kansas, and grandchildren Andrew and Alexander.&nbsp;

Gary Wayne Allaman was born September 6, 1967, in Goodland, Kansas to John (Jack) and Mary Allaman. Gary passed away at Scott County Hospital on May 17, 2023.

Gary was raised in Wallace County with his older brother Larry and younger brother Brian. The boys were raised by loving parents on the farm in Wallace County. 

Gary graduated high school in Sharon Springs, the class of 1985. 

After graduation, Gary moved to Scott City where he has resided for the past 38 years. Gary worked for the City of Scott City for two years and then for Fairleigh Feed Yard since 1997.&nbsp;

Gary's oldest daughter, Shantel was born in 2005, and his youngest son, Brayden was born in 2006. Both were born in Scott City, Kansas where they still reside. Shantel just finished, her junior year, and Brayden just finished his sophomore year at Scott City High School.&nbsp;

Shantel gave Gary a grandson, Cole Ryder Venegas on August 25, 2020. Gary's children and grandson were the light of his life. He was very proud of both of his children, and his eyes and smile lit up whenever he was with Cole. Gary loved being a papa to Cole.&nbsp;

Gary enjoyed long motorcycle rides, as well as taking his family to the races, and fishing trips. It was time they spent together that will never be forgotten. Gary was loved by many and will be greatly missed. The time he spent with family and friends will be cherished forever.

Becky J. Ellis, age 84, died Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Stanton County Hospital in Johnson, Kansas. She was born April 9, 1939, in Garden City, Kansas, the daughter of Charles and Alma (Patee) Clark. Becky grew up in Garden City and graduated from Garden City High School.

She married Wesley L. Ellis on June 13, 1957, in Garden City. After they were married, they lived in Garden City, Kalvesta, Lane County, Morton County, and then settled in Stanton County in 1965 where they began farming.

 Becky was a farm wife for 20 years before she went to work at Russ’ Jack and Jill and then as an optometrist technician for Hopkins &amp; Hopkins in Ulysses and Syracuse. 

Becky was very active with her grandkids and enjoyed watching all her family participate in all their activities including motocross and ballgames. She also loved to go to the casinos, dancing, and swimming, where she served as a lifeguard. Becky is survived by her three sons, Jim Ellis and wife Pam of Pratt, Steve Ellis and wife Karen of Ulysses, and Scott Ellis and wife Lori of Rolla; brother Bob Clark of Ozark, Missouri; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Becky is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Alma Clark; husband Wes in 2019; brothers Bill, Jim and Ken Clark; and sister Donna Mader. Rosary will be Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, Kansas, with Reverend Charles Seiwert officiating. It is with great sadness that the family of Paul Matthew Horinek, Jr., announce his peaceful passing on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, in Lincoln, NE at the age of 78. He was born September 28, 1944, in Stratton, NE, to Paul, Sr., and Helen Mary (Mazanec) Horinek.

Paul graduated from Atwood High School in 1962 and attended Wichita Technical Institute where he received a drafting degree to pursue a top-secret job at Lockheed in California. 

In 1974, Paul came home to Atwood to manage the family farm for three years until moving to Colby where he worked in many different trades before settling at T.O. Hass as a mechanic for over 20 years. Paul enjoyed collecting antiques, singles dances, and spending time with his family and friends. There wasn't a day that he didn't crave his mom's cherry kolaches, poppyseed rolls, or the passed-down recipe of the hot water chocolate cake with maple frosting. Paul will always be remembered for his ornery character, his sense of humor, and his gracious, giving heart. He definitely was the backbone of his family and will be missed greatly. Paul took great pride in his love for Pontiac cars, International Scouts, and Club Cadet tractors. But ultimately, the greatest love he had was his children, his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren, who will inherit the love of tinkering on small engines, rebuilding block motors in the living room, and laying rubber at the 9-mile corner to make sure the cobbs were blown out. Give 'em hell, Paul; we will take over from down here. Paul was preceded in death by his father and brother Joe A. Horinek. Shelley S. Laurent, 66, died May 11, 2023, at Diversicare of Larned, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born May 23, 1956, the daughter of Donald W. and Margie H. (Carr) Davis.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Shelley graduated from Hoisington High School in 1974 and then attended college at Barton County Community College where she majored in criminal justice and worked security.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She then worked as a dispatcher for the city of Hoisington for a time before moving to Hutchinson, working as a correctional officer at Hutchinson Correctional Facility. She later returned to Great Bend as a deputy and K-9 officer for the Barton County Sheriff’s Department.&nbsp;&nbsp;Shelley then moved to Arizona for a while where she worked as a security officer for a casino.&nbsp;&nbsp;After returning to Kansas, she worked for Schendel Pest Control but wanted to return to her career in law enforcement and began working for Larned Correctional Facility where she retired as a captain.

She is survived by stepchildren Tim (Debbie) Laurent of Topeka, and Sharie Laurent of Wichita; brothers Don (Lucille) Davis of Great Bend, Jerrold (Debby) Davis of Hoisington, and Mike (Debbie) Davis of Great Bend; sister Lisa Bunger of Hoisington, and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside inurnment service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, May 22nd, at Hillcrest Cemetery, Mullinville, Kansas. Cremation has taken place and there will be no viewing.

Agra resident, Donna Faye Peterson, passed away May 13, 2023 at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg at the age of 75.

Survivors include her husband Duane “Pete” Peterson of the home; sons Michael of Lexington, NE and Jim of Meriden, KS; daughter Annette Lowe of Alma, NE; brother Ben Morgan of Omaha, NE; four sisters, Mary Ortiz and Patricia Guthrie of McCook, NE, Darlene Wahrman and Diana Allen of Herndon, KS; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Cremation was chosen.&nbsp;&nbsp;A memorial service will be held Friday, June 9 at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Becky Saddler officiating.

LaJuan McCartney passed away May 8, 2023 at the Logan Manor in Logan at the age of 87.

LaJuan (Hill) McCartney was born on the farm near Hughes Springs, Texas to Samuel Moses and Clara Evelyn (Rowe) Hill on April 15, 1936. She was originally the 10th&nbsp;of eleven children, but when her mother passed away and her dad remarried, she had two younger brothers that were added to the family. 

She graduated from Hughes Springs high school and after graduation moved to Dallas, TX to join the workforce. 

It was in Dallas at church where she met her husband Ronald McCartney. They were married in Dallas on Nov 25, 1955.

The couple had a daughter, Patricia Renee McCartney, in Texas. They moved to Kansas in 1960, where Ron was from. While in Kensington, KS they had two boys Samuel James and Mark Raphael. 

LaJuan worked as wife and homemaker while the kids were growing up. She was an excellent seamstress and made clothes and blankets for people. She taught classes on sewing, knitting, and crocheting for 4-H kids. She raised gardens, canned vegetables, and helped in the community. 

She was active in the Assembly of God church, initially in Kensington, then Phillipsburg, and most recently in Heartland Worship Center where she attended. 

After the kids were grown, LaJuan worked at the hospital as a ward clerk. She was honored for 10+ years of service. 

After her retirement she spent most of her time at home, taking care of the house and sewing clothes for family and quilts for gifts. She handquilted all the quilts that she gave away.

Survivors include her daughter Patricia McCartney of Phillipsburg; sons Samuel of Dayton, OH and Mark of Phillipsburg; her brother Lonnie Hill of Lone Star, TX; sister Pansy Short of Dangerfield, TX; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 12 at 10:00 a.m. in the Heartland Worship Center, Agra, with Pastor Chris Baker officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp;The service will be streamed live on the Heartland Worship Center Facebook page.&nbsp;&nbsp;Burial will follow in the Agra Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 Wednesday and 9:00 to 9:00 Thursday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with the family receiving friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Thursday evening.

Verdyne G. Kugler, at the age of 82 passed away on May 16th, 2023 at the Osborne County Memorial Hospital. She was born December 15th 1940 at the Smith Center Memorial Hospital.

Preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Fern (Gove); sister Valjean Ellis (Kugler); brother,Terry Kugler; niece Rachel West (Ellis); and nephew Tim Ellis (Danielle).

She is survived by her nephews Steve Ellis (Melinda), of Gulfport Mississippi and children Trevor, Mason, and Alyssa; Mark Ellis (Cari) of Carl Junction, Missouri and children Logan, Preston and Grant; Rachel’s children Clayton and Brian; Tim’s children Martha, Sarah, and James; great-great-nieces and nephews and cousins.

Verdyne attended Smith Center High School, graduating in 1959. 

Verdyne first worked at Hawes Drug then at Gibson Chiropractic. She ended her career as a ward clerk at Smith Center Memorial Hospital.

She and her brother Terry lived in their family home with their parents. Later they both cared for their parents, Floyd and Fern, during their final years. Verdyne lived in the Kugler family home until late 2020, when she decided it was better for her to spend the rest of her golden years at the Park View Care Center.

Verdyne faithfully attended the Church of the Nazarene and Bible study classes as well as she was part of the church choir. She was an active member at church, making many friends and enjoyed the fellowship. Going to gospel concerts was one of her favorite past times that she looked forward to attending with her sister.

Verdyne enjoyed walking, her friend, Rhonda said they walked everywhere together. Her username was “walksalot.” On Sunday' she would often eat with her friend Dietra and watch Gathers music. For two years she participated in a ladies night. Thirl, Charmin, Rose, Helen, Rhonda, Phyllis, and Verdyne would meet every Friday night and play card games or dominoes. Verdyne’s baked goodies were always a hit.

Family reunions were a particularly favorite time for her and she greatly enjoyed visiting and catching up with family members that didn’t live close to her. The Watermelon Festival was another event that she enjoyed every year. Doing cross word searches was another activity she enjoyed.

Verdyne was very well known for her cooking and baking skills, such as her applesauce brownies that were a particular favorite with her family. Another favorite was divinity candy and melt in your mouth cream cheese cookies she made every year during the holidays.

She enjoyed spending time with her sister, Valjean, niece, nephews and great-nieces and nephews, making frequent trips to visit them in Wichita. Likewise, the family also made frequent trips to see her in Smith Center. She always welcomed all family and was a gracious host, who fed and cared for everyone. She loved her dogs, Tippy and Scrappy, taking them on her visits.

Verdyne had a heart full of gold. She touched many lives and we were all fortunate enough to know her. Always ready with kind, encouraging words, as well as wisdom. Verdyne always went out of her way to be there for anyone that needed her, ready and willing to lend a helping hand. She will be and is already greatly missed by her family and friends.

Rebecca L. Kersenbrock (Jain) passed away peacefully Sunday, May 7, 2023, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Oberlin, Kansas. She was born September 13, 1939, to Ralph and Ada (Foster) Jain in Colby, Kansas. She was 83 years old. Becky graduated from Colby Senior High School in 1957 and married the love of her life, Jerry Kersenbrock, on April 21, 1962. They spent their lives together farming the ground where Jerry had grown up north of Colby, Kansas. Becky lived a full and happy life serving her beloved Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

After graduating from high school, she worked at KXXX radio, at a drafting and engineering business owned by George McKee, and later in life at Prairie Senior Living Complex in Colby as a seamstress. 

Her lifelong passion, however, was being a wife and mother to her family on the farm. Her hobbies included ham radio where she was known as WᴓVGE. She was often seen knitting booties for all of the babies in her life. Becky was very active in the churches she attended and volunteered as a Sunday School teacher, piano and organ player, and held other positions of leadership. She greatly enjoyed making birthday cakes for her children and grandchildren, always being certain to make them individualized for each one. Becky had a true servant’s heart that showed when she meticulously and lovingly mended her family’s clothing. One of her greatest joys was being a pioneer in the homeschooling movement when she taught her youngest son from grade 1 through grade 12. Becky was preceded in death by her parents and twin infant daughters, Karen and Kolene Kersenbrock. She is survived by her husband Jerry; sons Cory (Kyleen) Kersenbrock of Ellsworth, Kansas, David (Beth) Kersenbrock of McCook, Nebraska, and Jeremy (Amber) Kersenbrock of the family farm in Colby, Kansas; daughters Peggy (Kelly) Hess of Vernon, Texas, and Lois (Daniel) O’Brien of Colby, Kansas; 12 grandchildren, Caleb, Kelissa, Krista, Shayleen, John, Brock, Cosette, Luke, Kara, Levi, Isaac and Ethan; one great-grandchild Lynna; brother Gilbert Jain and sister Martha Wood; and many nieces and nephews and other loved ones. A celebration of life service will take place on Friday, May 19, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby.

Norman B. Voigt, 81, passed away peacefully on May 8th, 2023, at Citizens Medical Center in Colby. He was born April 3rd, 1942, in Adrian, Minnesota to Ida (Finck) and Elden Voigt. He enjoyed many careers including being a librarian, teacher, running a dairy farm, owning a skating rink, managing restaurants, owning a furniture store, operating vending machines, and doing handyman work. In August 1982, he married Carol (Fritz) Terrell. To this union came a biological daughter and five adopted children. Norman enjoyed singing, woodworking, fishing, hunting, spending time in the outdoors, and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys. He also lived in many places, including Avon, SD, Palestine, TX, Corsicana, TX, and Ozark, AR. In 2020 he moved to Colby to be near his daughter.

While in Colby, he appreciated the ministry and friendship of many in the Berean Bible Fellowship. The family would also like to express deep appreciation to his primary doctor, Dr. Dan Kuhlman, and all of the wonderful staff of the Citizens Medical Center in Colby. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Lorraine, and daughter Emma. He is survived by three sisters; daughter Marla Voigt of Dallas, TX; daughter Amber (Jeremy) Kersenbrock of Colby; son Alberto Voigt of Ozark AR; daughter Marivel (Michael) Ruhl of Dardanelle, AR; son Russel Voigt; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Christine Louise Hudson, 74, of McPherson, KS, went to heaven to meet Jesus Wednesday, May 17, 2023, in Lindsborg, KS, after battling with cancer.&nbsp; She was born January 13, 1949, in Great Bend, KS, the daughter of Eldon and Dorothy (Ade) Folmnsbee.&nbsp; 

She graduated high school from Great Bend, KS and college from Fort Hays State University with her teaching degree.

While in college, she met her husband, Thomas (Tom) Eugene Hudson, and married him on August 30, 1969.&nbsp; During their wonderful 53 years of marriage, Christine and Tom had four children and lived in many towns all over Kansas while working in education.&nbsp; 

Christine taught preschool, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, middle school, and ended her career as a reading tutor when they came to retire in McPherson.&nbsp; Teaching came natural to Christine.&nbsp; She was always the patient and kind teacher who loved her students like her own.&nbsp; 

She was a wife, homemaker, mother, teacher, sister, and everything in between, but her favorite title was Grammy.&nbsp; When her two grandchildren were born, she officially retired from education and took on the full-time role as a grandmother.&nbsp; She loved taking care of the kids as babies and watching them grow.&nbsp; 

Christine was also very involved in the church through her life and always led with her faith in everything she did.&nbsp; Some of Christine’s favorite hobbies were church activities, watching her favorite mystery series, reading/going to the library, golfing with Tom, walking, shopping, playing card games with family and friends, and supporting grandkids at all their events.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her son Andrew Christian Hudson, and her parent, Eldon and Dorothy Folmnsbee.

Christine is survived by her husband Tom Hudson of McPherson and three children, Brad Hudson of McPherson, Brett Hudson of McPherson, and Amy Gilkey (Adam) of McPherson; one brother, Gary Folmnsbee (Cathy) of Oklahoma City, OK; and two grandchildren, Finn and Addison Gilkey, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at the First Baptist Church, 600 E. Marlin St., McPherson, KS.&nbsp; Private family inurnment will follow at Farmington Cemetery in Macksville, KS, at 3:00 p.m..&nbsp; The family will greet friends on Tuesday, May 23, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Stockham Family Funeral Home.
