Bonnie Joan (Milstead) Schwaller, a former Hays resident, died in Colorado Springs on October 22, 2026. She was 83 years old.
Bonnie was born to Arthur Leonard Milstead and Bonnie Mae (Brock) Milstead in Kansas City, Missouri. She met Henry (Hank) Schwaller, III, while attending Baker University. They married in 1964 and celebrated their 30 wedding anniversary before his death in 1994.
Bonnie earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from Fort Hays State University and a master's degree in psychology from Chapman College.
She loved travel, family meals and her ornery terriers. An accomplished artist, she enjoyed painting, woodcarving, sewing, and knitting. Her family looked forward each Christmas to receiving one of her beautifully crafted sweaters.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, and is survived by her daughter, Jennifer, of Seattle, and son, Henry IV, of Hays.
