Heather
 Annette Fields, 53, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 11:17 p.m., 
Wednesday, March 16th, 2022, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, following a 
courageous battle with cancer. Heather was born in Enid, Oklahoma on October 17, 1968, a daughter of Melinda Lee (Tucker) and Bobby Clay Hein. 
 Heather attended Lincoln Elementary School, McPherson Park School, 
McPherson Junior High, and graduated from McPherson High School, 
McPherson, Kansas in 1987. She attended Kansas State University, 
Manhattan, Kansas for two years and graduated from Emporia State 
University, Emporia, Kansas in 1991. Heather Annette Hein was 
united in marriage to Jeffrey Oren Fields on June 4, 1988 at First 
Baptist Church, McPherson, Kansas. The young couple established their 
first home together in Manhattan, Kansas for a year. They then moved to 
Emporia, Kansas for two years, then Hays, Kansas for two years prior to 
making their home in McPherson in 1993. This union was blessed with the 
birth of two daughters, Ellie and Abigail. She was a member of Cross Point Church Hutchinson, Kansas, and she truly loved people the way Jesus does. 
 Heather was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her 
family in raising her girls. She began her teaching career in Hays, 
Kansas teaching 4th and 5th grade at O'Loughlin Elementary School. While
 raising her daughters, she did daycare for several years prior to 
teaching 6th grade at Elyria Christian School, Elyria, Kansas for 11 
years then at Lincoln Elementary School for four years. 
Heather enjoyed kids in general (and was quite the "baby hog"). She 
loved shopping, traveling to the beach and mountains with family and 
friends. Her nieces and nephews were very special to her and she poured 
her heart into her students. Her greatest loves were Jeff, her 
daughters, and grandchildren and cherished every moment with them. 
 Heather is survived by her loving and devoted husband of over 33 years,
 Jeff Fields, of McPherson, Kansas; her daughters, Ellie Wingert and 
husband Peyton, of McPherson, Kansas and Abby Franklin and husband Nate,
 of Wichita, Kansas; her mother, Melinda Grisham and husband Steve, of 
El Dorado, Kansas; her father, Bob Hein, of McPherson, Kansas; her 
brothers, Tim Hein and wife Stephanie, of Norman, Oklahoma and Shawn 
Hein and wife Tammy, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; her two grandchildren, 
Brooks Wingert and Brentley Franklin with Hayes Wingert on the way, due 
in June! Heather was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Merlin Fields, and a brother, John Hein. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 24th, 2022, at the Glidden - Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas. 
 The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 25th, 
2022, at Free Methodist Church in McPherson, Kansas with Pastor Jim Keil 
officiating. The final resting place will be at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas. 
 In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Elyria 
Christian School in memory of Heather and they can be sent in care of

Vernon J. “Vern” Morris Sr., 85, Hays, died Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Norton County Hospital.

He was born October 9, 1936, in Hays, the son of Raymond and Elizabeth (Burgardt) Morris.&nbsp; Vern was a veteran who served in the United States Marine Corps.&nbsp; On July 13, 1957, he was united in marriage to Charmaine&nbsp;Kamai&nbsp;in Honolulu, Hawaii, and they were married nearly 65 years.&nbsp; He worked as&nbsp;a mechanic for John Deere and later on repaired&nbsp;small gas engines and lawnmowers.&nbsp; Vern was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.&nbsp;and&nbsp;he&nbsp;enjoyed hunting, fishing, tinkering and fixing anything, and growing fresh produce in his vegetable garden.

Survivors include his wife: Charmaine of Hays, two sons: Vernon J. Morris, Jr. and wife Sue of Logan and Verlon Morris of Spring Hill, three daughters: Virgie&nbsp;Knoedler&nbsp;and husband Steven of Hays, Veronica Rogers of Ottawa, and&nbsp;Vermay&nbsp;DeRossi&nbsp;of Lawrence, a brother: Harold Morris of Fort Collins, CO, a sister: Carol Ostrom of Hays, twelve grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son:&nbsp;Verdale, and three sisters: Janice&nbsp;Edds, Norma Jean Morris, and&nbsp;Fredrica&nbsp;Maddox.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Fr. Richard&nbsp;Daise&nbsp;officiating.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors by The Marine Corps League and the Hays VFW Post #9076 Honor Guard.&nbsp; The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until service time.&nbsp;

William J. 'Bill' Losey

Diane Marie Glauser was born on January 23, 1956 in Beloit, Kansas, 
the daughter of George and Anita Brummer Eilert. She died Monday, March 
14, 2022 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit at the age of 66.

She grew up on the family farm south of Beloit, where she attended
 country school. Her family moved into Beloit, where she attended St. 
John’s before graduating from Beloit High School in 1974. Following 
graduation, she worked as a nurse’s aid at Hilltop Lodge and Long Term 
Care for many years.

On February 20, 1982, she was united in marriage with Larry 
Glauser. Two children, Kristen and Justin were born to this union.

She greatly enjoyed being outdoors, either helping on the farm, 
mowing, or planting her flowers. She also loved her family, and was 
affectionately known as Mimo or Mamo to her grandkids.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Debbie Wilcox.

She is survived by her husband, Larry of the home; daughter, 
Kristen and husband Matt Chaput of Assaria; son, Justin and wife 
Brittney of Glen Elder; five grandchildren, Emma, Ella, and Easton 
Chaput, and Jacee and Kane Glauser; siblings, Kathy (Dave) Scott of Glen
 Elder, Marlene Jaso of Louisville, KY, Darlene Fischer of Gardner, KS, 
Sondra (John) Richardson of Belleville, Mary (John) Quinley of Salina, 
Joan (Bill) Meysenburg of Salina, Tim (Betty) Eilert of Beloit, Henry 
(Betty) Eilert of Concordia, Gary (Susan) Eilert of Beloit, Karen (Brad)
 Kesl of Hays, and Donna (Scott) Remus of Glen Elder; and a host of 
other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11 AM Saturday, March 19, at the St. 
John's Catholic Church in Beloit followed by burial in Athens Cemetery 
north of Glen Elder. A rosary service will be at 6 PM, and visitation 
will be from 1 PM until the rosary service begins on Friday at the 
Roberts Family Funeral Home.

Diane Marie Glauser

Ralph Willard Terry, 86, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2022, at 
Country Living of Larned with Tanya, his wife of 60 years by his side.

He was born January 9, 1936, in Big Cabin, Oklahoma, the son of Frank and Erma Adams Terry Dawes.

A longtime area resident, he was of the Christian faith. Ralph was a 
1953 graduate of Chelsea High School in Chelsea, Oklahoma, where he was a
 three-sport athlete. His career as a professional athlete began in 1954
 in Binghamton, New York as a class A affiliate for the Yankees. His 
rookie career took him to AAA in Denver, back to Binghamton, and then to
 Kansas City. At the age of 21, Ralph was the youngest pitcher to join 
the Yankee’s staff. He is the only pitcher to throw the final pitch in 
two World Series Game Sevens — in 1960 and in 1962, when he was named the 
World Series MVP. While much of his career was spent with the Yankees, 
he also played for the Kansas City Athletics, New York Mets and the 
Cleveland Indians. Ralph followed a successful baseball career with a
 new sport: golf. He competed as a professional golfer in 106 PGA events
 and was a cofounder of the Celebrity Players Golf Tour. He was a member
 of the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame, the Northeastern Oklahoma A&amp;M 
Hall of Fame, and the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

Ralph teamed with Gary Meserve of Larned to win the 1979 Kansas State 
Doubles Bowling title.

Oklahoma City, OK; two great grandchildren, Elena and Noah Brown, and 
three half siblings, Sue Dawes Call, Oklahoma, Bill Dawes and Mike 
(Dorinne) Dawes, both of Florida.

He was preceded in death by; his parents and a brother, John Terry.

Private family services will be held.&nbsp;

Ralph Willard Terry

Joyce Ann Weis, 87, passed away March 15, 2022, at Medicalodges of 
Great Bend. She was born on January 1, 1935, in Decatur County, Kan., to
 Peter and Bertha (Woerpel) Pope. She married Wilbur “Dean” Weis July 
14, 1953 at Colby, Kan.&nbsp;

A longtime Great Bend resident, Joyce was a daycare provider and a 
cook at KFC in Great Bend. She had previously lived in Perryton, Texas, 
and in Ulysses where she worked for a water well service and liquor 
store. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima 
Catholic Church, Altar Society and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
 Joyce was an avid collector of beanie babies and bells. She especially 
loved to spend time with her family and play cards.

Survivors include, her husband, Dean Weis of the home; three sons, 
Michael Weis and wife Karen of San Antonio, Texas, Timothy Weis and wife
 Diane of Fontana and Jeff Weis and wife Michele of Edmond, Oklahoma; 
three daughters, Jennifer Reynolds and husband Robert of Guymon, 
Oklahoma, Debbie Wood and husband Russell of Spearville and Nikki 
Zamarripa and husband Paul of Great Bend; twenty grandchildren; and 
twenty five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her 
parents; her brothers, Robert Pope, Rueben Pope and Rollie Pope; her 
sisters, Phyllis Hensley, Phylia Brantley, Betty Wallace and infant 
sister Madona Lea Pope; a grandson, Casey Weis; and a great grandson, 
Easton Weis.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, March 
20, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 
6:00 to 7:00 p.m., and a Vigil service held at 7:00 p.m. The family asks
 that you wear blue jeans and KU attire for the Vigil service. Funeral 
service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 21, 2022, at St. Rose 
of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend, with Father Aneesh Parappanattu 
presiding. Inurnment will be at the Seldon Cemetery at a later date. 


Memorials have been designated to Kindred Hospice, Prince of Peace 
Parish or for Masses, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

20, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 
6:00 to 7:00 p.m., and a Vigil service held at 7:00 p.m. The family asks
 that you wear blue jeans and KU attire for the Vigil service. Funeral 
service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 21, 2022, at St. Rose 
of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend, with Father Aneesh Parappanattu

Donald “Don” Weber, age 81, of Victoria, Kansas died Monday, March 14, 2022, at the Topside Manor Care Center in Goodland, Kansas.

He was born September 15, 1940, in Hays, Kansas, to Raymond and Katherine (Kappel) Weber.

He was a common laborer working in construction and brick laying. &nbsp;He grew up and attended school in Victoria, and moved to the Goodland three years ago. &nbsp;He was a &nbsp;member of the Basilica of St. Fidelis. &nbsp;Don enjoyed fishing and constructing yard art.

Survivors include his daughter, Donna Hashenberger and husband, Ron, Hays, KS; his grandchildren, Kimberly Weber, Jessica Gibson,&nbsp;Erica Gibson, all of Hays, KS;&nbsp;his great grandchild, Alexander Warden.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his former wife, Genevieve (Gerhardt); his brother, Robert Weber; his sisters, Rose Weber and Theresa Weber; his infant brother, Daniel; and his infant sisters, Elizabeth and Dolores.

 on May 19, 1955 at Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; He died September 3, 2010.

A longtime Great Bend resident, Opal worked on the brush line at 
Fuller Brush and was a bookkeeper and co-owner for Fergy's Enterprises. 
She enjoyed playing card games, going to the casino and motorcycle 
riding. She especially loved spending time with and taking vacations 
with her family.

Survivors include, her son, Darwin Ferguson and wife Diana, a 
daughter, Diann Garcia of Great Bend and a sister, Waneta Mason all of 
Great Bend; eight grandchildren, Darla Villalobos, Dana Hernandez, 
Kristy Creamer, Misty Skinner, Brandy Ferguson, Derrick Ferguson, Doug 
Ferguson and Dustin Ferguson; seventeen great grandchildren; and four 
great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her
 husband, Donald Ferguson; a son, Daryl Ferguson; a daughter, Donna Sue 
Ferguson; two daughters in law, Sharon Ferguson and Stacy Ferguson; and a
 sister, Dorothy Fletcher.

Opal Ann Ferguson

Ronald Dee Underwood was born on 01/21/1948 in Agra, KS, in his 
family home.&nbsp; He attended Agra schools, graduating in 1966, enjoying 
baseball, basketball, and track and field while in school.&nbsp; As for 
academics, he excelled in math and was really the only subject that he 
cared much about; in his words, “there is only one answer; numbers make 
sense.”&nbsp; Thus, with this thinking, Ron attended Fort Hays State 
University, and graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor’s in Accounting.&nbsp;

Ron met Joyce Dusin at the Phillipsburg bowling alley in 1973 and the
 two of them wed on February 16, 1974.&nbsp; The newly married couple ended 
up in Everest, KS, where Ron accepted a job at Evans Grain.&nbsp; The couple 
built their home there and have remained in Everest ever since.&nbsp;

The couple had a daughter, Billie Jo, on November 25, 1981.&nbsp; Billie 
Jo grew up at the ball field either playing in the dirt on the field as 
she got older, where her dad coached and ran the ball program with the 
help of Joyce for 18 years.&nbsp; When Ron was not coaching, you could still 
find him at the ball field umpiring or helping out in the concession 
stand.&nbsp;

After 22 years of working for the elevator in Everest, Ron went to 
work for the Golden Eagle Casino, starting as a cashier and working his 
way up to cage manager.&nbsp; Ron thoroughly enjoyed his time at the casino 
and the people he worked with, not retiring until 2019, after being 
there for 23 years.&nbsp;

Billie Jo married in April 2008 to Rick Boykin.&nbsp; With this union 
brought about an instant family as Rick had three daughters already; 
Camryn 3 at the time, and the twins, Alexandria and Briahna age 1.&nbsp; Ron 
and Joyce enjoyed watching the girls grow up, and then on June 9, 2009, a
 grandson (much needed), Ryland Benjamin Boykin, was born.&nbsp; Ron could 
not be more proud to have a grandson, and the bond between the two was 
instant.&nbsp; Up until the time of his passing, Ron enjoyed watching all 
four kids play sports; what he looked forward to the most. &nbsp;His absence 
in the stands will be noticed immensely.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

When Ron was not being grandpa, he enjoyed watching the Kansas City 
Royals, Kansas City Chiefs, but most of all, KU basketball.&nbsp; Before he 
went in for surgery, all Ron was concerned about was being awake and 
feeling well enough to get his brackets filled out for March Madness. 
Unfortunately, Ron passed away in the early morning hours of March 13th; however, his family knows he is still not missing a game and cheering on from above.

Survivors include his wife Joyce; daughter Billie Boykin and husband 
Rick of Horton, KS; four grandchildren: Ryland, Camyrn, Ali, and Bri 
Boykin; a sister Peggy Gale and husband Loren of Agra, KS; sister-in-law
 Carolyn Underwood of Bennington; nieces; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Jerry Underwood.&nbsp;

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2022, in 
the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Lee Bennight

Bobby Lee&nbsp;“B.L.”&nbsp;Schulz, 97, of Russell, Kansas, passed away&nbsp;Friday,&nbsp;February&nbsp;4, 2022, at the Brookdale Senior Living in Hays, Kansas.

B.L. was born July 29, 1924, in Greensburg, Kansas. &nbsp;The&nbsp;son of Robert Emmet&nbsp;and Fanny Maude(Hunsley)&nbsp;Schulz. &nbsp;He grew up in Greensburg and graduated from Greensburg High School,&nbsp;where he lettered in all sports and music. &nbsp;He&nbsp;played on the 41/42&nbsp;Kansas University&nbsp;Jayhawks&nbsp;basketball&nbsp;team and pledged Kappa Sigma. He maintained lifelong ties with friends he made that year.&nbsp;He then served his country in the U.S. Army. During World War&nbsp;II, he was stationed in Europe with the Grave Registration unit. &nbsp;B.L. received medical training and his Bachelors&nbsp;degree while on active duty at Washington-Jefferson College in Pennsylvania. While there he continued playing basketball and participated in the NIT Tournament before shipping overseas.&nbsp;He&nbsp;was stationed in England before being sent to a hospital in France and&nbsp;later being assigned to Graves&nbsp;Registration in France and Luxembourg. While in Luxembourg, he oversaw the burial of Gen. George&nbsp; S. Patton.&nbsp;When he returned to the United States, he used the G.I. Bill to attend the University of Kansas City Dental School&nbsp;graduating with a degree in Dentistry. His Father and Uncle were also alumni of the school.

B.L. was united in marriage to Lorraine&nbsp;“Larri”&nbsp;Lewis on April 8, 1951, at his parent’s home in Greensburg. &nbsp;This union was blessed with four children; Don, Diane, Dean,&nbsp;and Dana. &nbsp;They made their home in Russell, Kansas,&nbsp;where he&nbsp;practiced&nbsp;dentistry for over forty years. &nbsp;He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Russell,&nbsp;a life&nbsp;member of the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240, the Russell American Legion Post #99, 75-year member of the Russell Masonic Lodge&nbsp;#177,&nbsp;Isis Shrine, Russell Elks Lodge,&nbsp;and&nbsp;Russell Kiwanis&nbsp;Club. &nbsp;He&nbsp;also&nbsp;was&nbsp;active in the&nbsp;Arbor&nbsp;Foundation&nbsp;and the Russell Tree Board.&nbsp;He enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, snow skiing, and singing in his leisure time.

B.L.’s&nbsp;surviving family includes&nbsp;his&nbsp;daughter, Diane Schulz of Washington, D.C.; two sons, R.Dean Schulz (Sue) of Hays, Kansas and Dana Schulz (Barbara) of Cody,&nbsp;Wyoming; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

B.L. was preceded in death by his parents,&nbsp;loving&nbsp;wife Lorraine on March 13,&nbsp;2014; son Don Schulz;&nbsp;three brothers, Vern Dean Schulz,&nbsp;Billy Gene Schulz,&nbsp;and an infant brother&nbsp;Robert.

Bobby Lee 'B.L.' Schulz

Frances A. Wendler, 94, died Monday, March 14, 2022, at Reflection Living of Dodge City.

She was born September 1, 1927, in Ness County, Kansas, the daughter 
of Walter and Anna (Fercking) Coker.&nbsp; She was a graduate of Ness City 
High School and was the Secretary for the Superintendent of Ness City 
Schools.

She was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Altar 
Society both in Dodge City.&nbsp; She enjoyed gardening, flowers and sewing.

On May 18, 1948, she married Chester “Curly” Wendler at Ness City. 
They then moved to Dodge City and operated several taverns including 
Curly’s Tavern. He preceded her in death on November 23, 1985.

Survivors include: 2 daughters, Vickie Waddell and husband Robert, 
Dodge City; Michelle Frazier and husband Leon, Dodge City; her son, 
Frank Wendler, Garden City; 2 brothers, Walter Lee Coker, Topeka and 
Doug Coker, Phoenix, Arizona; a sister, Margaret Rohr, Neosho, Missouri;
 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 3 great-great 
grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, Don, 
Martin, John and Raymond Coker and 4 sisters, Helen Schrader, Reba

of Walter and Anna (Fercking) Coker.&nbsp; She was a graduate of Ness City 
High School and was the Secretary for the Superintendent of Ness City 
Schools.She was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Altar 
Society both in Dodge City.&nbsp; She enjoyed gardening, flowers and sewing.On May 18, 1948, she married Chester “Curly” Wendler at Ness City. 
They then moved to Dodge City and operated several taverns including 
Curly’s Tavern. He preceded her in death on November 23, 1985.Survivors include: 2 daughters, Vickie Waddell and husband Robert, 
Dodge City; Michelle Frazier and husband Leon, Dodge City; her son, 
Frank Wendler, Garden City; 2 brothers, Walter Lee Coker, Topeka and

 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 3 great-great

Frances A. Wendler

Thomas “Tom” Patrick Brown, was born March 10, 1945 in Colby, KS. He was
 the 11th child of Wenzle and Dora Brown. The Lord called him home March
 14, 2022 at the age of 77 years and 4 days. 
The family lived 18 miles southeast of Atwood, KS. He attended the 
Valley View Country School until he was in the 7th grade, when the 
school was closed. He then attended 1 year at the Catholic school in 
Atwood, KS and 1 year at the Catholic school in Victoria, KS. In 1960 he
 returned home to help his dad and brother, Harvey, on the family farm. 
On May 25th, 1968, Tom and Margaret Janousek were united in marriage, in
 Trenton, NE. They made their home at Albert Yost’s farm for 12 years. 
They had 3 children; MeLinda, Tom Jr. and Monica. 
In 1980, he moved his family northwest of Rexford, KS to work for John 
Ostmeyer, then later worked for Ken Poland north of Gem, KS. Tom moved 
his family, in 1990, 18 miles southeast of Atwood, KS, after he was able
 to purchase the family farm. Tom enjoyed raising stock cows, pigs, 
sheep and milking cows. He loved all aspects of farming, using his John 
Deere equipment when putting up wheat. He got the most enjoyment from 
cutting, raking and baling alfalfa, which he had been perfecting since 
he was a young boy. 
Tom enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and neighbors. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Emmeran Brown, Anton 
(Mary) Brown, Joe (Wilma) (Bernadine) Brown, Harvey Brown, Robert Brown 
and Wenzel Brown Jr.; sisters, Lillian (Carl) Wahrman, Alvina (Richard) 
Gamblin and Dorothy (Richard) Taylor, brother-in-law, Bernard Sis and 
granddaughter, Shanelle Padilla.

Arbutus Ann “Boots” Maltby, 80, passed away March 15, 2022, at 
Medicalodges of Kinsley. She was born on March 18, 1941, at Bison, 
Kansas to Joe G. &amp; Hilda (VonFeldt) Basgall. She married Bobby 
Maltby on June 23, 1962, at Loretta, Kansas. He died July 15, 2021.

A current Great Bend resident, Boots had previously lived in Midland,
 Texas and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was a member of Prince of Peace 
Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Boots loved to cook and sew.
 She was also an avid reader.

Survivors include numerous beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and
 great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Maltby; 
her parents, Joe and Hilda Basgall; three brothers and their spouses, 
Marvin and Sandy Basgall, Eddie and Lily Basgall, and Delbert and 
MaryEllen Basgall; and her sister and brother-in-law Vera and Vern 
Bellendir.

An Altar Society Rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m., Friday, March 18, 
2022, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., all at St. 
Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend, with Father Aneesh 
Parappanattu, and Father Terrance Klein presiding. Interment will be in 
the Great Bend Cemetery.

She was born April 23, 1964, in Russell, Kansas, to Charles Burton and Barbara C. (Froelich) Beery. &nbsp;

She was a nurses aid for a number of years working in area nursing homes. &nbsp;She grew up north of Walker,&nbsp;attended Victoria Grade School and Victoria High School. &nbsp;

Survivors include her children, Ellynora&nbsp;Beery and Marcus, Wichita, KS; John Allen, Hays, KS; Bryce Willis&nbsp;and Shambre, Wichita, KS; her father, Burton Beery, Gorham, KS;&nbsp;her brothers, Charles Beery and wife, Lisa, Salina, KS; William Bradley Beery, Gorham, KS;&nbsp;her step-brother, Adam Brown, McPherson, KS; her&nbsp;half-sister, Amy Beery, Kansas City, MO; and&nbsp;her five grandchildren.

Rebecca Lynn Beery-Willis

Nathan David Stanton, beloved husband, father, son, encourager and 
friend, died on Saturday, March 12th, 2022, at the age of 52 in his home 
in Salina, Kansas, at the end of a brave two-year battle with ALS.

Nathan was born on July 15, 1969, in Salina, Kansas, the son of 
Marshall P. Stanton and Janice (Duryee) Stanton, having childhood homes 
in Salina, Colby and Hutchinson before graduating from Salina Central 
High School in 1987, Kansas Wesleyan University (BA) in 1991, St. Paul 
School of Theology (M. Divinity) in 1996, and Kansas State University 
(MA, Theater) in 1999.

On December 17, 1994, Nathan married Brenda (Meyers) in her hometown 
of Kiowa, Kansas. Their 27 years of marriage took them on adventures in 
the early years from pursuing their masters degrees together as poor 
graduate students, to acting as resident directors for KWU while Nathan 
worked as a drug and alcohol prevention coordinator at Central Kansas 
Foundation and then into their lifelong ministry in the United Methodist
 Church. Nathan’s first appointment was at St. Mark’s UMC in Wichita in 
1999. From there, they went on to minister at Plains-Kismet, Anthony, 
and Wichita Pleasant Valley UMCs. After 14 faithful years serving in 
local parishes, Nathan was honored to be appointed to the Great Plains 
Conference of the United Methodist Church as New Church Development 
Coordinator and in 2017, to his final professional title and one of his 
greatest joys, as Director of Congregational Excellence.

In Nathan’s four years as coordinator for new church development, 13 
new congregations were formed, a majority of which were predominantly 
Black, Hispanic and African congregations. He introduced Planter 
Incubator and Crucible programs for growing new churches, and he 
developed the 20 By 2020 plan to grow congregations in the Great Plains.

Nathan experienced so much joy during his brief 52 years of earthly 
life. Some of the greatest were experienced on the sidelines of 
ballgames, watching his boys play ball or wrestling. After his own 
football and wrestling experiences in high school and college, this was 
his pride as a father. His face lit up whenever one of his boys walked 
into a room. Nathan and Brenda shared a love of theatre and literature. 
So much time was spent enjoying movies and quietly reading together over
 a big cup of coffee.

Most of all, Nathan was loved. He was a friend to so many, always 
ready with a laugh and a word of encouragement. He was a leader, a 
mentor and had the ability to fill up a room with his silent, thoughtful
 strength. The twinkle in his eye, the dimple in his cheek and that 
contagious laugh would make you feel like the most important person in 
his world.

He was survived by his wife Brenda and three sons, Noah, Isaac and 
Eli, his parents, Marshall and Janice, and two siblings, Eric (Judy) and
 Kirsten (Raleigh). He had nephews, Jordan, Gabriel, Aaron and Henry, 
and nieces, Mary Rachel, Shelby, Alison, Olivia, McKenna and Madison.

Funeral services will be at 2:00pm on Friday, March 18, 2022, in Sam’s
 Chapel at Kansas Wesleyan University. Visitation will be made available
 immediately prior to the service, beginning at 1:00pm. A private 
graveside service will take place at a future date.

Eileen Dorothea (Rourke) Nemechek, 95, passed away Friday, March 12, 
2022, at Wallace County Community Care Center in Sharon Springs, KS.&nbsp;

She was born June 24, 1926, in Brownell, Kansas, the daughter of John 
and Margaret (Halbleib) Rourke. She was the fourth of eight children.&nbsp;

Eileen attended Hiawatha Grade School and graduated from Ellis High 
School in 1944.&nbsp; She obtained a teaching certificate at Kansas Normal 
School in Hays and returned to teach at Hiawatha Grade School.&nbsp;

She married Stephen (Steve) Nemechek Jr. on May 22, 1945, at St. 
Mary’s Catholic Church in McCracken, Kansas. The couple moved to Sherman
 County in 1946 and farmed southeast of Goodland, Kansas.&nbsp; Steve and 
Eileen were then blessed with five sons.&nbsp; Steve passed away August 3, 
1978.&nbsp; On May 17, 1980, Eileen married Floyd Owens at Our Lady of 
Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Goodland, Kansas. Floyd passed away 
March 4, 1999.&nbsp;

Eileen was a longtime member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic 
Church serving on the Lady’s Guild and Liturgy Committee, as well as 
Sacristan and Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion.&nbsp; Eileen was also
 actively involved in VFW Lady’s Auxiliary. Along with her deep faith 
and devotion to Christ, Eileen had a great love for her family, always 
lending a helping hand with joy.&nbsp; Some of Eileen’s many hobbies included
 gardening, canning and pickling, crocheting, bowling, wallpapering, and
 working with stained glass.

Eileen is survived by her sons, Tom (Sharon) Nemechek of Des Moines, 
IA; Greg (Judi) Nemechek of Goodland; Jerry (Penny) Nemechek of 
Goodland; and Terry (Stephanie) Nemechek of Goddard; and daughter-in-law
 Janice Nemechek of Goodland; 17 grandchildren, Curt (Julie) Nemechek of

Thomas Patrick 'Tom' Brown

Icyl Irene Wood, 99, died January 13, 2022, at Presbyterian Manor of 
the Plains, Dodge City. She was born on January 6, 1923, at Ness County, 
the daughter of Ira E. and Laura V. (Stewart) Baldwin.

Icyl moved with her family to Reno County when she was 10 years old. 
She graduated from Hutchinson High School and Hutchinson Community 
College. After receiving her associates degree she taught school from 
1943-1948. On September 22, 1946, she married Howard B. Wood in South 
Hutchinson. He preceded her in death on January 9, 1997.

The family lived in Montezuma and Coldwater for a short time before 
settling in Dodge City, where she has resided since.&nbsp; Icyl was a 
bookkeeper for Southwest Equipment Company and the Silver Spur Lodge. 
She was an active member of the First Christian Church, where she served
 in the childrens Sunday School and Junior Church. Icyl was also a 
member of the Win A Couple and Happy Partners classes, Swing Shift 
Circle, Women’s Council and Keenagers all ministries of the church.

Survivors include one son, Richard Wood and wife Carol of Vero Beach,
 Florida; two daughters, Marilyn Custer and husband Jimmy of Nowata, 
Oklahoma and Marsha Reid and husband Ken of St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada;
 a son-in-law, Maurice Roberts of Winfield; six grandchildren, one 
step-granddaughter, and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in 
death by her parents; a daughter, Nancy Roberts; three brothers and 
three sisters.

The family of Icyl Wood is deeply saddened to announce her passing on
 January 13, 2022, at the Manor of the Plains Nursing Facility in Dodge 
City, Kansas.&nbsp; Having just celebrated her 99th birthday a week prior, 
she succumbed to an unexpected medical complication and passed 
peacefully in her sleep. We will all miss her loving presence and the 
warmth of her smile.&nbsp; May our wonderful memories of her remain with us 
forever.

Memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church on Saturday, April 30, 2022. Family will receive friends immediately following the service.
 Interment has taken place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City.&nbsp; There
 was no public visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are

Sister&nbsp;Clarella&nbsp;Werth, who lived her religious vocation as a musician and educator for 83 years, died on March 9, 2022, at Sacred Heart in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.&nbsp;Sister was 101 years old.

Sister&nbsp;Clarella&nbsp;was born on June 20, 1920, in&nbsp;Schoenchen, Kansas, the daughter of Frank A. and Rosa (Klaus) Werth. She was received into the School Sisters of St. Francis on June 13, 1939, made her first profession of vows on June 21, 1941,&nbsp;and final (perpetual) vows on June 21, 1947.&nbsp;

Sister&nbsp;Clarella&nbsp;is survived by three sisters: Esther Gottschalk of&nbsp;Schoenchen, Rose Ann Zimmerman of Hays, and&nbsp;Alfrieda&nbsp;(Allen) Pfeifer of Hays;&nbsp;and by the School Sisters of St. Francis&nbsp;community with whom she shared her life for&nbsp;more than eight decades.

Beginning in 1941, Sister&nbsp;Clarella&nbsp;ministered in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, and Nebraska.&nbsp;

In the Archdiocese of Chicago,&nbsp;Sister served as teacher&nbsp;and&nbsp;organist at Our Lady of Good Counsel School in Chicago (1945-1949).

In the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend,&nbsp;Sister served as teacher&nbsp;and&nbsp;organist at St. Rose of Lima School in Monroeville, Indiana (1957-1962).

In the Diocese of Joliet,&nbsp;Sister served as teacher&nbsp;and&nbsp;organist at St. Walter School in Roselle, Illinois (1962-1963).&nbsp;

In the Diocese of Sioux City, Sister taught at Immaculate Conception School in Cherokee, Iowa (1967-1971).

In the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Sister served as teacher and organist at St. Lawrence School, St. Lawrence (1941-1945), and at Sacred Heart School in Allenton (1949-1955).

In the Archdiocese of Omaha,&nbsp;Sister served as teacher&nbsp;and&nbsp;organist at St. Joseph School in Pierce (1955-1957), SS Peter and Paul School in Butte (1963-1967),&nbsp;and&nbsp;taught at Our Lady of Lourdes School in Omaha (1971-1992) where she also served as tutor ((1992-1993) and&nbsp;as a support staff&nbsp;volunteer (1993-2001).

In her retirement,&nbsp;Sister&nbsp;Clarella&nbsp;served in the ministry of prayer and presence at St. Joseph Convent in Campbellsport, Wisconsin (2002-2013), and at Sacred Heart in Milwaukee from 2013 until the time of her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Alvin Werth, Eugene Werth, Gilbert Werth and infant brother Gilbert Werth and sisters,&nbsp;Merilda&nbsp;Randa, Alice&nbsp;Windholz, Viola Rohr, Frances Dreiling, and infant sister, Alice Werth.

A funeral&nbsp;Mass&nbsp;will be celebrated&nbsp;on March 17, 2022,&nbsp;at St. Joseph Chapel in Milwaukee, followed by a private burial service at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Milwaukee.

Anita Ellen Fischer, 68, passed away March 12, 2022, KU Med Center, 
Kansas City, Kan.&nbsp; She was born September 18, 1953, in Hutchinson, to 
Arthur Wilson and Frankie Lea (Watkins) Keffer.&nbsp; Ellen married Dennis 
Fischer Feb. 1, 1975, at Peace Church, Hudson.

Ellen, a longtime resident of Great Bend coming from Hutchinson, had 
been the personal property/appraisal clerk for the Barton County 
Appraiser's Office for nearly 30 years, retiring in Dec., 2021.&nbsp; She 
previously worked as a senior draftsperson for Welex, Halliburton. Ellen
 was a graduate of Great Bend High School Class of 1971 and she 
graduated from Barton Community College with an Associates in Music. She
 was a member of Peace Church of Hudson, Barton County Sheriff's 
Reserve, Kansas County Appraisers Association and Kansas Traditional 
Muzzleloading Association.&nbsp; Her zest for life led to activities such as 
Mountain Men Rendezvous and teaching line dancing for the Great Bend 
Recreation Commission.&nbsp; She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking, 
and above all, time with her grandson, Braxton.

Survivors include her husband, Dennis of the home; one son, Tom 
Fischer (Jennifer) of Hudson; three brothers, Arthur E. Keffer (Terri) 
of Ellinwood, William G. Keffer (Vicki) of Kansas City, Mo., and Lee A.

of Great Bend and Anna Donecker (Craig) of Great Bend; one grandson, 
Braxton Fischer; mother in law, Donna Fischer, brother in law, Galen 
Fischer, sister and brother in law, Tammy and Bill Milton, all of 
Hudson; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; many 
friends; and her many adopted children of the heart.&nbsp; She was preceded 
in death by her parents; one sister, Jayne Wapelhorst; one niece, Jayne 
Lea Shumate; twin grandsons, Austin Lee and Wyatt Allen Fischer; and 
father in law, Gerald Fischer.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Peace Church, Hudson, 492 NE 140th
 St., Hudson, KS 67545, with Pastor Tonya Andrews and Pastor Wade 
Russell presiding.&nbsp; Interment will follow at Peace Church Cemetery.&nbsp; 
Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 16, with 
family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home.&nbsp;
 Memorials may be given to Kans for Kids or Barton County Sheriff’s 
Office Reserves Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

 </figure>Anita Ellen Fischer, 68, passed away March 12, 2022, KU Med Center, 
Kansas City, Kan.&nbsp; She was born September 18, 1953, in Hutchinson, to 
Arthur Wilson and Frankie Lea (Watkins) Keffer.&nbsp; Ellen married Dennis 
Fischer Feb. 1, 1975, at Peace Church, Hudson.Ellen, a longtime resident of Great Bend coming from Hutchinson, had 
been the personal property/appraisal clerk for the Barton County 
Appraiser's Office for nearly 30 years, retiring in Dec., 2021.&nbsp; She 
previously worked as a senior draftsperson for Welex, Halliburton. Ellen
 was a graduate of Great Bend High School Class of 1971 and she 
graduated from Barton Community College with an Associates in Music. She
 was a member of Peace Church of Hudson, Barton County Sheriff's 
Reserve, Kansas County Appraisers Association and Kansas Traditional 
Muzzleloading Association.&nbsp; Her zest for life led to activities such as 
Mountain Men Rendezvous and teaching line dancing for the Great Bend 
Recreation Commission.&nbsp; She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking, 
and above all, time with her grandson, Braxton.Survivors include her husband, Dennis of the home; one son, Tom 
Fischer (Jennifer) of Hudson; three brothers, Arthur E. Keffer (Terri) 
of Ellinwood, William G. Keffer (Vicki) of Kansas City, Mo., and Lee A. 
Keffer (Brenda) of Russell; two sisters, Jean Herrman (Larry Partridge)

Anita Ellen Fischer

Gary Lyle Emigh, 81, passed away on March 11, 2022, in Selden, KS. He 
was born on April 11, 1940, in rural Sheridan County to Lyle Zadoc and 
Clyda Belle (Shaw) Emigh.
 Gary was raised in Sheridan County and graduated from Selden Rural 
High School in 1958. After high school Gary started farming and 
carpentry work. On June 7, 1959, Gary married Shirley Rogers in The 
United Methodist Church in Selden. To this union they had four 
children: Lori, Russ, Roger, and Kyle.
 Gary and Shirley settled 5 miles south of Selden. Gary and his dad,
 Lyle, partnered in the farm and established Solomon Valley Hog Farm. 
In addition, they raised multiple crops and cattle.
 After raising their family and retiring, Gary and Shirley moved to 
town and the boys continued the farming operation. Gary continued 
working at his own pace and the boys tried to keep up! It was then that
 he assumed the role of “dispatcher."&nbsp; Even though their Selden homes 
were very nicely remodeled and landscaped by Gary and Shirley. They were
 always drawn back to the farm. Here, they established yet another 
farmstead close to the original where Gary could keep an eye on the farm
 activity and pursue his love of remodeling by restoring campers. He 
always seemed happier the harder he worked.
 Gary had a deep faith from an early age. He was a dedicated steward
 and church was always a priority. He will be remembered as a loving 
husband, father and grandpa, who always kept his family entertained 
through his gift of jovial wit. Gary will be deeply missed by all.
 Gary is survived by his wife, Shirley Emigh of Selden, KS; sons: 
Russ Emigh and Kyle Emigh both of Selden, KS; daughter: Lori (Mark) 
Miller of Selden, KS; sister: Judy (LaVern) Rentschler of Smith Center, 
KS; eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He is also survived
 by numerous nieces and nephews and extended family. He was preceded in
 death by his parents, son: Roger Emigh; sister: Joan Emigh and infant 
twin siblings.&nbsp;

Gary Lyle Emigh

Patrick Thomas McNelis, 61, of Russel, Kansas died on Monday, March 7th, 2022, in his home in Russell.

Patrick was born May 21, 1960, in Duluth, MN to his parents, William 
and Philomena (Rameno) McNelis. He grew up in Duluth, MN and graduated 
from Duluth High in the class of 1978. After graduation, he served in 
the United States Air Force which he considered a civic duty and honor.&nbsp;
 He had 4 children, 3 daughters and a&nbsp; son: Nick, Stacie, Jennifer and 
Lainey. Although he was a shrewd businessman, the largest aspect of his 
identity was being a father. Nothing meant more to him than his 
children.

He married the love of his life, Michele Renee Pasek on August 1, 
2009, in his hometown of Corcoran, MN. It was one of the happiest days 
of his life. He loved bird watching, grilling with loved ones, the 
outdoors and fishing. Above all else, he loved being surrounded by 
family.

Surviving family includes his wife, Michele, children Nick McNelis, 
Stacie McNelis, Jennifer Vazquez (Noe), Lainey Krayca, sisters Mary (Al)
 Quale, Margie McNelis, Linda (Kenny) Mankowski, brothers, Danny 
McNelis, James McNelis (Rebekka Fisher), Robert McNelis and 7 
grandchildren, Adrian, Christian, Julian, Brooks, Sophia, Logan and 
Illia.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents and beautiful sister, 
Kitty Shuma. Patrick’s memorial arrangements will take place this spring
 near his birthday.&nbsp; Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, 
is in charge of the arrangements.

Gregg Trauer, 65, of Morland, Kansas died March 11, 2022. He was born in
 Hays, Kansas, to Laurence and Nancy (Wilkes) Trauer. He grew up in Palco
 with his brother, Mark and two sisters: Tammi and Terri. He graduated 
from Palco High School in 1974. Following graduation, he attended the 
Beloit Trade School in Masonry. He did work in construction, but most of
 his life was in the oil fields as a pumper. He loved to fish and camp,
 and was a lifelong fan of baseball, basketball and football especially 
his favorites: the KU Jayhawks, Kansas City Royals and Kansas City 
Chiefs.
 	He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Mark. Leaving
 to mourn his death are his stepmother, Chris Trauer of Hays; his 
daughter, Jessica and husband Jose Alcocer of Lenexa; his sons, Brian 
Trauer and wife Kelsey of Gardner; and Tyler Trauer and wife Kayla of 
Gardner; two sisters: Tammi and husband Darvin of Colby, and Terri Cox 
of Colby; five grandchildren: Shaylee Benoit of Hays, Benson and Kami 
Trauer of Gardner, Harper and Holton Trauer of Gardner; and best friend,
 his dog, Cletus.&nbsp;
