
Leroy Albert Lang was born on May 23, 1938, in Ellsworth Co., Kansas, to
Albert and Beatrice (Menzer) Lang. He passed from this earth on March
25, 2022. He is survived by his wife, Judy of the home in Norton, son
Michael of rural Norton, daughter Michelle (Paul) Williams of Overland
Park, his two beloved grandsons Mackay Williams of Tampa, Florida, and
Cooper Williams student at Pitt State. He is also survived by his
sisters, Barbara (Raymond) Schmitz of Fort Mill, S.C., and Jeanette
(Patrick) Sterrett of Travelers Rest, S.C., nieces, nephews and various
other family and friends. He was predeceased by his infant brother,
Eugene, his parents, uncles, and aunts.
Leroy grew to boyhood in rural McCracken, Ks. In 1950 his family
moved to Norton and purchased the family farm. He attended Norton
schools and graduated from Norton Community High School in 1956. He
then attended K-State and graduated with an Ag Ed degree in 1961. He
was a member of the Norton National Guard. Leroy married Judith Ann
Mowery on August 6, 1966 in Osborne, KS. He was active in the community
and served as a board member of the Norton County Co-op and was a two
term Norton County Commissioner. He was dedicated to the community of
Norton and was passionate about seeing the county continue to prosper.
Leroy was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church. He
was a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a
former member of the parish council.
Leroy was passionate about agriculture. After graduating from KSU,
he worked in farming and at Norton County Implement, Allis Chalmers
dealer, which his father was co-owner. In 1966 he took a position with
New Holland in Denton, Texas and later Enid, Oklahoma. In 1973 he moved
his wife and daughter back to Norton to take over the family farm. He
continued farming until his health began declining. He enjoyed farming,
and he loved taking care of his cattle.
He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He was especially fond of his two grandsons.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 am Thursday, March 31,
2022, at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Norton. Vigil
services will be held at 7:00 pm Wednesday, March 30, at the church.
