GREAT BEND - Hays High capped eight straight road games that started with the final game of 2024 as they traveled to Great Bend Friday.

GIRLS:&nbsp;#2 Hays 65, Great Bend 39 The Hays girls moved up six spots in the coaches' poll to #2 ahead of their game with the Panthers. A 34-1 first half run provided more than enough cushion for Hays to pull out a 65-39 victory.

It was a slow start for Hays. Great Bend hit four of their first five shots and led 9-2 midway through the first quarter. The Indians started getting to the free throw line and closing the gap. Hays closed the first quarter with a 16-0 run and then scored the first six points of the second quarter.

The 22-0 run put Hays up 24-9 two minutes into the second quarter. Great Bend hit one of two free throws before the Indians scored 12 straight to lead 36-10 three minutes later.

Hays led 42-15 at halftime and were never threatened in the second half.

Hays started the third quarter slow as well but Great Bend could only take four points off the Indian lead. Hays pushed their advantage to 30 by the end of the third quarter at 58-28.&nbsp;

The Indians grabbed a 65-39 victory after a continuous clock fourth quarter.

Hays(12-0, 3-0) has won fourteen consecutive WAC games. Great Bend(4-10) falls to 0-3 in league games. The 65 points and 34 rebounds for Hays was right at their season average.

Hays returns home on Tuesday. It is their first home game since December 13, 2024.

BOYS:&nbsp;#4 Great Bend 64, Hays 52 An 11-0 run by Great Bend to open the second gave the Panthers a lead they would never give up as they beat the Indians 64-52.

The game featured eight lead changes and four ties. Seven of those lead changes and three ties all happened in the first half. The two teams traded blows through the first quarter. The Indians knocked down a trio of three pointers to boost themselves to a 12-8 lead through eight minutes.

Great Bend started the second quarter with a 8-2 run that gave the Panthers a 19-14 lead. Hays again started knocking down threes and made three more to lead 27-24 at halftime.

The big 11-0 run for Great Bend opened the third quarter. The Panthers led 35-27 before Hays scored their first points of the half with 4:11 remaining in the third. Hays never got any closer that five points rest of the way. The Indians trailed 43-37 with under a minute remaining in the quarter when Great Bend scored four quick points to increase their lead to ten points going the fourth.

The Panthers led by as many as 16 points at 56-40 before Hays tried to mount a comeback. The Indians got lead down to ten at 56-46 on a pair of technical free throws and had the ball but turned it over.

Hays got the lead down to nine inside of two minutes and eight inside a minute but couldn't get shots to drop to draw closer, falling 64-52.

Hays(7-6, 2-1) has four losses to state ranked teams this season. Great Bend(13-1, 3-0) takes over the WAC lead. The Panthers have won ten straight.

HAYS – The TMP-Marian Monarchs renewed an old MSAA rivalry Friday
night inside Al Billinger Fieldhouse when they split a doubleheader with the Larned
Indians. It was the TMP boys and the Indian girls picking up victories. 

GIRLS: Larned 40, TMP 37 The Larned Indians outscored the TMP girls by eight to open
the third quarter on their way to a 40-37 win over the Monarchs Friday night.

The two teams played to an early pair of ties before Larned took
a 7-6 lead into the first quarter break.

Larned (7-5) outscored the Monarchs 8-4 in the second quarter
and led 15-10 at halftime.

Larned built its largest lead in the third quarter, at
20-13, but the Monarchs (7-6) eventually tied the game at 23 on a Gracyn
Schippers three-point play to close out the third quarter.

The Indians led by as many as six in the fourth quarter on their
way to a 40-37 victory.

Schippers tied her career-high with 13 points, and Brooke
Koenigsman added 11 points for the Monarchs. 

BOYS: TMP 46, Larned 33 The TMP boys led by as many as 10 in the first half and 17
in the second half on their way to a 46-33 victory.

There were a pair of ties and lead changes early, and after
leading 9-8 at the end of the first quarter, TMP (6-7) outscored Larned (5-7)
14-9 in the second quarter for a 23-15 lead at halftime. A lead they never
surrendered. 

The Monarchs opened the third quarter scoring eight straight
points on three-pointers from Will Eck and Ty Schmeidler and a layup by Jacob
Seib that gave TMP the 31-17 a little more than a minute gone in the third
quarter. 

The Indians would never go away, though, trailing by double figures.
They outscore the Monarchs 14-2 over the next six minutes of gameplay to close
out the third quarter and open the fourth quarter. 

They had closed within four at 33-244 with five minutes left
in the game.

The Monarchs Ty Schmeidler knocked down a three-pointer, scoring
a 13-0 TMP run for a 46-29 lead. In the final minutes, four scored four points,
making it 46-33 TMP. 

Schmeidler finished with 13 points, and Seib scored 11.

TMP will host Trego Community on Tuesday.

The #2 Hays High(12-0, 2-0) girls moved up six spots in the 5A rankings after a championship in the Colby Orange &amp; Black Classic. Great Bend(4-9, 0-2) placed seventh in the Salina Invitational Tournament and lost to TMP in Hays on Tuesday.&nbsp;

The Hays(7-5, 2-0) boys takes on #4 Great Bend(12-1, 2-0). Three of the five Hays losses are to state ranked 6A teams. The Indians finished runner-up in the Colby Orange &amp; Black last Saturday. Great Bend moved up a spot in the rankings after winning the Salina Invitational Tournament last week. The Panthers beat TMP in Hays on Tuesday.

The Tigers held an early lead before the Ichabods moved in front for good with just over three minutes remaining in the first half. The Ichabods remained perfect on the season at 20-0 overall and 11-0 in the MIAA, while the Tigers went to 13-6 overall, 6-4 in the MIAA.

Fort Hays State led by as many as seven points twice in the first half, the latest at 19-12, before Washburn went on an 11-1 run to take a three-point lead. Kaleb Hammeke leveled the score at 23-23 with a 3-point field goal, but Washburn followed with a 13-1 run to close out the first half. Washburn led by 12 at halftime, 36-24. 🏀 Tiger men fall short at No. 1 Washburn

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Fort Hays State baseball team was picked sixth in the 2025 MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll, released Thursday (Jan. 30) by the league office. It is the highest the Tigers have been slotted in the preseason conference poll since 2013 when they were picked fifth.

The Tigers finished the 2024 season in a tie for seventh in the league standings, allowing FHSU to qualify for the postseason for the first time in 11 years. Justin Wichert's squad finished the year 25-26 overall after completing the regular season with a record of 25-24.

Fort Hays State returns 24 players from last year's squad in addition to 12 newcomers, including seven transfers and five true freshmen. This year's veteran roster includes 20 seniors, six juniors, four sophomores and six freshmen.

FHSU returns four All-MIAA performers, including first team pitcher Ty Riley, third team first baseman Elliott Herrmann and third team outfielders Brady Kreutzer and Isaiah Ural. Herrmann and Trey DeGarmo were MIAA Gold Glove selections, with DeGarmo also picking up ABCA Central Region All-Defensive Team recognition at third base.

The Tigers will play 29 of their 50 scheduled games at historic Larks Park, where FHSU turned in a record of 16-7 last year. The Tigers will host three non-conference opponents in weekend series in addition to five conference series and three midweek league games. FHSU will be at home each of the first two weekends of the season, hosting Adams State February 1-2 and East Central February 8-9. Conference action starts February 21-23 at league newcomer Arkansas-Fort Smith.

TOPEKA, Kan. - The eighth-ranked Fort Hays State women's basketball team put together a dominant road performance at Washburn on Thursday, defeating the Ichabods 85-47. The 38-point margin is the Tigers' largest margin of victory against a Division II team this season and is tied for FHSU's largest margin of victory in series history against Washburn.

Katie DeGarmo collected 11 rebounds in the win, allowing the graduate student to pass Kate Lehman with a school-record 1,110 career rebounds.

Washburn (11-10, 5-6 MIAA) scored first and led for all of 19 seconds before the Tigers (17-2, 8-2 MIAA) took complete control, scoring the next 10 points. Olivia Hollenbeck&nbsp;dropped in a pair of layups to give FHSU the lead and Bailey Wilborn&nbsp;knocked in a 3-pointer before DeGarmo added a field goal and a free throw to complete the run.

The Tiger defense held Washburn without a field goal for nearly six minutes, forcing five consecutive Ichabod misses and creating three turnovers during the stretch. FHSU eventually led by as many as 11 in the quarter, including an 18-7 advantage at the end of the opening frame.

Washburn scored the first three points of the second quarter to momentarily close within single digits, but a pair of free throws from Kate Dilsaver&nbsp;allowed the Tigers to stretch the lead back to double figures where it would stay the rest of the evening.

Fort Hays State finished the first half on a 17-4 run over the last four minutes of the second quarter, building the lead at the break to 41-17. The Tigers were virtually perfect on offense over that run, hitting 6-of-6 from the floor with five assists while hitting both of their free throw attempts and all three of their shots from behind the arc.

Talexa Weeter&nbsp;scored eight of her game-high 19 points during the run, hitting three shots and two free throws. Dilsaver added a pair of 3-pointers before Megan Earney drilled another triple at the end of the frame, putting the Tigers up 24.

Two baskets each from Hollenbeck and Dilsaver and another from Wilborn helped the Tigers to a 10-0 run early in the third quarter. Fort Hays State scored on five-straight possessions during the run while forcing four Ichabod turnovers. Weeter and Ellie Stearns&nbsp;both hit 3-pointers down the stretch of the third quarter, giving FHSU a 64-30 advantage after 30 minutes of play.

The Tigers continued to pad its lead in the fourth quarter thanks to a shooting percentage of 57.1 percent in the final frame (8-of-14).A smothering Fort Hays State defense held Washburn to its lowest scoring output of the season, four points below their previous season low of 51 points. The Tiger bench racked up 37 points compared to 38 points from the Ichabod starting lineup.

Fort Hays State created 19 WU turnovers thanks to 14 steals, including five from Brooke Loewe. The Tigers scored 27 points off those turnovers while outrebounding the Ichabods by 11, 40-29.Weeter added six rebounds, three steals, one assist and one block to her game-high point total. Hollenbeck and Dilsaver both finished with 12 points, while Wilborn scored a season-high 10 points.

The Tigers finished the game shooting 33-of-65 from the floor (50.8 percent), an identical shooting percentage to the last time FHSU defeated Washburn last month and the sixth time this season the team has hit at least half of its field goal attempts.

Fort Hays State combined for a season-high eight 3-pointers in the victory, including two each from Wilborn, Dilsaver and Earney.

The Tigers have now won 10 in a row against the Ichabods, extending their longest winning streak in series history. This was FHSU's fourth-straight road win in Topeka, the longest such stretch in team history.

🏀 No. 8 Tiger women dominant in Topeka

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fort Hays State Softball was slotted 10th in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll released on Thursday (Jan. 30). The Tigers are picked in the position they finished in the conference standings last year. Fort Hays State went 28-25 overall in 2024 and won its opening round game in the MIAA Tournament before seeing their season end in the quarterfinals.

Rogers State, the 2024 MIAA regular season co-champion, was picked first in the poll. The Hillcats won the 2024 MIAA Tournament title by defeating Pittsburg State, which shared the regular season conference title with them. Central Oklahoma was picked second in the poll, Pittsburg State was third, and Washburn was fourth. The top four picks in the poll all finished with at least 38 wins last year, which included a pair of 40+ win teams and one 50+ win team.

The top 10 teams in conference regular season play will make the MIAA Softball Championship Tournament again this season, a format that began last year. It is the same single-elimination 10-team format used for the MIAA Basketball Championship Tournament. Fort Hays State has already been pre-selected as the host of the MIAA Tournament this year, which begins at the end of April and carries over into May. It will be the first time ever that Fleharty Family Field plays host to a conference tournament. Fort Hays State has qualified for the MIAA Tournament three of the last four years.

Fort Hays State returns its top two pitchers from last year, seniors Savanah Egger and Morgan Schmidt. They combined for 23 wins, 32 complete games, seven individual shutouts, and 247 strikeouts. They threw 285.2 of the team's 344.2 innings of work in 2024. The Tigers also have several newcomers at pitcher this year looking to make their mark to complement Egger and Schmidt.

The Tigers will have several new faces looking to make their mark in the batting lineup this year. The Tigers lost four of their regular starters from last year and another is out with injury to begin the year. Position players returning who saw at least 20 games of action last year include Peyton Shepard, Lilliana Ramirez-Johnson, Madison Pierce, Regan Curry, Audrey Gillespie, Emily Mayer, and Lexi Mohr.

The Tigers enter their 11th season under head coach Adrian Pilkington, who enters the year with 221 wins at FHSU. She has the most wins of any coach in program history.

Fort Hays State will open its season in Wichita Falls, Texas for the third-straight year, slated for February 7-8. The first home doubleheader is set for Wednesday, February 12 when Bethany College comes to Hays. The Tigers have 19 non-conference games scheduled in February before opening MIAA play in March.

Fort Hays State continues its four-game stretch of road contests on Thursday when it takes on No. 1/1 ranked Washburn in Topeka, Kan. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Lee Arena. The game features a battle of the first and second-place teams in the MIAA. FHSU enters at 13-5 overall, 6-3 in the MIAA, while Washburn is still undefeated at 19-0 overall and 10-0 in the MIAA.

Washburn won the first meeting of the season with FHSU in Hays by a score of 71-57 back on December 7. The Ichabods were ranked No. 3 (NABC)/No. 4 (D2CSC) at the time before eventually ascending all the way to the top of the national rankings. This is the third-straight week the Ichabods are ranked No. 1 in the nation.

Fort Hays State will be playing an NABC No. 1 ranked team for the sixth time in its NCAA Division II history. This will be the first time of the six that Washburn holds that billing. All six games against NABC No. 1 teams have been on the road. FHSU's only win over a No. 1 ranked team was during the 2009-10 season when they defeated Central Missouri in Warrensburg. The Tigers were ranked No. 13 nationally during that meeting. The other four games against No. 1 teams were a loss at Metro State (now MSU Denver) back in 2003-04 and then three losses to Northwest Missouri State (2017, 2021, 2022).

Fort Hays State has knocked off a Top 5 ranked Washburn team before. During the 1996-97 season, the Tigers knocked off a No. 3 ranked Ichabod squad in Hays when the Tigers were the nation's top ranked team. FHSU is 1-3 against NABC Top 25 ranked Ichabod teams in its NCAA Division II history.

Washburn has been a thorn in Fort Hays State's side in recent years, winning eight of the last 10 meetings between the schools in men's basketball. Washburn won the last meeting between the teams in Topeka during the 2022-23 season by a score of 74-64. Fort Hays State's last win in Topeka was during the 2021-22 season by a score of 68-58.

Fort Hays State and Washburn have two highly storied histories in men's basketball as FHSU ranks sixth among NCAA Division II in all-time wins with 1,706, while Washburn ranks seventh with 1,695. Both schools won a pair of NAIA national titles, while FHSU has one NCAA Division II national title and Washburn has one runner-up finish in its Division II history.

Fort Hays State is coming off a loss at Central Oklahoma this past Saturday. The Bronchos were the first team to shoot over 50 percent from the field against the Tigers this season, largely fueled by starting the game 11-of-12 from the field. FHSU is now 3-3 in true road games this season.

Last week, Washburn went on the road to defeat Northwest Missouri State 80-69 and then Missouri Western 85-52. The Ichabods have scored at least 70 points in all 19 of their regular season games so far.

Kaleb Hammeke&nbsp;leads the Tigers in scoring at 15.0 points per game. He also hands out a team-best 4.5 assists per game. Hammeke ranks 11th&nbsp;in the MIAA in scoring and fourth in assists. Kyle Grill&nbsp;(11.9) and Shaun Riley&nbsp;(10.4) also average double figures in scoring for the Tigers. Riley leads in rebounding at 6.9 per game.

All five of Washburn's starters average at least 9.0 points per game, led by Brayden Shorter at 16.9 per game. Shorter had 26 points in the first meeting with the Tigers this season in Hays, which is his season high reached twice.

Fort Hays State has the top scoring defense in NCAA Division II at 59.6 points allowed per game. The Tigers are the only team in NCAA Division II holding opponents inside of 60 points on average. Washburn owns the top scoring offense in the MIAA at 87 points per game. FHSU held Washburn to its second-fewest amount of points in a game this season (71) in Hays earlier this year. Winners of three straight, the Tigers head into the contest 16-2 on the year and 7-2 in league action. The Ichabods are 11-9 overall and 5-5 in conference play, including a 5-1 record at home.

The Tigers took care of business at home against Washburn last month (12/7/24), leading by as many as 43 before settling for a 30-point victory, 83-53. Five Tigers scored in double figures in the win, with FHSU combining to shoot 50.8 percent from the floor (33-of-65).Fort Hays State's smothering defense and efficient offense has let to one of the largest scoring margins in the country. The Tigers carry a scoring margin of plus-18.2, 11th-best in Division II this season. Fourteen of FHSU's 16 wins have been double-figure victories, including nine by 20 or more points, while both of the Tigers' losses have been by just one point.

The Tigers are also amongst the nation's best in assists, with the Tigers ranking third in DII in assists per game (18.9) and second in assist/turnover ratio (1.34). FHSU's defense has limited teams to a shooting percentage of 34.2 percent, the best in the conference and fifth-best in the country.

Katie DeGarmo&nbsp;recorded her 40th career double-double Saturday in a road win at Central Oklahoma, racking up 17 points and 11 rebounds. That performance brought her career total in rebounds to 1,099, 10 behind the school record of 1,109 currently held by Kate Lehman.

Thursday's game will feature the two most accurate shooters in the conference, with Washburn's Yiibari Nwidadah leading the country with a shooting percentage of 65.8 percent and Olivia Hollenbeck&nbsp;ranking second in the MIAA and fourth nationally with a shooting percentage of 62.0 percent.

Brooke Loewe&nbsp;leads the MIAA and ranks third in Division II with an average of 7.3 assists per game, an average that would shatter the program record of 6.0 assists per game (Jaden Hobbs, 2020-21). Loewe has totaled 11 or more assists three times this season, tied with three other individuals for the most such performances in DII this year.

Fort Hays State is one of two schools in the MIAA with three players ranked in the top 15 in the league in scoring, with Hollenbeck fourth with 16.8 points per night, DeGarmo sixth with 15.9 points per contest and Talexa Weeter&nbsp;13th with 14.2 points per game.

DeGarmo has scored in double figures all five times she has played Washburn, averaging 13.6 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest.

Washburn leads the all-time series, 47-41, including a 24-18 advantage in games played in Topeka. The Tigers have won nine in a row since 2018, FHSU's longest winning streak in series history. Going back further, Fort Hays State has won 14 of the last 15 meetings over the last decade. MANHATTAN, Kansas (AP) — Brendan Hausen scored 18 points on 5-for-6 shooting, Coleman Hawkins scored 15 points and Kansas State routed Oklahoma State 85-57 on Wednesday night.

Max Jones scored 14 points, Dug McDaniel scored 10 and the Wildcats (9-11, 3-6 Big 12) had 10 players enter the scoring column. Kansas State shot 52.6% (30 for 57).

Reserve Marchelus Avery scored 22 points, shooting 7 for 8, and Bryce Thompson was the lone starter in double-digit scoring for Oklahoma State with 11 points. The Cowboys' bench outscored the starters 39-18 and made 14 of their 21 made field goals.

The Wildcats began by establishing a 10-0 lead and were up 15-4 with 15 minutes before halftime. Avery threw down a dunk and Thompson made a layup to get Oklahoma State within 25-18 with 9:39 before the break, but McDaniel countered with a 3-pointer and layup for a 12-point lead. The Wildcats stayed ahead by double figures the rest of the way. Kansas State led 45-23 at halftime.

It was Kansas State's second largest margin of victory this season. On Dec. 1, the Wildcats beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff 120-73 at home.

The No. 21 ranked Tigers won the first three matches of the evening and never trailed, taking seven of nine matches contested in the dual and yielding one forfeit. FHSU moved to 8-2 overall on the season and handed Sioux Falls its first dual loss of the season. The Cougars are now 6-1 overall.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jalen Hurts and coach Nick Sirianni are ready for a Super Bowl rematch with Patrick Mahomes and former Eagles coach Andy Reid.

Two years after the Kansas City Chiefs knocked off the Eagles in the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/super-bowl-2023-kansas-city-chiefs-philadelphia-eagles-43a1fb387f63438c1eea23b6a4244d95">Super Bowl</a>&nbsp;— and won another last season — the teams will play again on Feb. 9 in New Orleans.

The difference in the outcome this year just might be Philadelphia's addition of 2,000-yard rusher&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/saquon-barkley-philadelphia-eagles-2055f71ba7bcca305d29f56e226b3f29">Saquon Barkley</a>. Barkley has turned the Eagles' run game from a concern for the opposition through the last decade to a downright fear. Fear that Barkley can score from anywhere. Fear that Barkley can shift momentum at any time.

Just look at how he bookended the last two playoff games — a 60-yard TD run on the Eagles' first offensive play in the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/commanders-eagles-score-b4f7c398625075b73f74bfe3531662e4">NFC championship game</a>&nbsp;against Washington and a 78-yard TD in the snow that was the final exclamation point in a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/eagles-rams-score-barkley-6a7d6f115c1077dd3be95290ea11f264">victory over against the Los Angeles Rams</a>&nbsp;the previous week.

Hurts now has a weapon out of the backfield to run wild against the Chiefs.

Even with Barkley, the Chiefs are early 1 1/2-point favorites to win the Super Bowl, according to BetMGM Sportsbook.

Hurts delivered a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/super-bowl-jalen-hurts-philadelphia-eagles-4e35f23e4df01cd39d01120565d18807">record performance in the Super Bowl</a>, throwing for 304 yards against Kansas City and a touchdown, running for 70 yards and three scores, and adding a game-tying 2-point conversion.

Hurts joked after Sunday's NFC title clincher that Sirianni had “let me out of my straitjacket” after he threw for 246 yards and a touchdown and ran for three scores following weeks of modest passing numbers. Hurts developed a reputation this season as more of a game manager, the kind of QB not necessarily asked to make big winning plays, while not losing the game.

Sirianni scoffed at the idea that Hurts, who tweaked his left knee during the divisional round and suffered a concussion in late December, is anything but the dynamic dual threat that can lead the Eagles to their second Super Bowl championship.

“It’s amazing how much doubt there is sometimes. I can’t quite comprehend it because it doesn’t look like what people think it should look like,” Sirianni said. “But the guy has been clutch. He’s won a ton of football games. ‘But you ran for this many yards.’ We don’t care how we win. We don’t care. If we rush for 300 and pass for one and we win, great. If we rush for one and pass for 300, great. Who cares?”

No pressure, but all the Eagles need to do to win a Super Bowl is play with total team domination, just as they did against the Commanders.

A.J. Brown had 96 yards receiving and a touchdown catch. Dallas Goedert had seven catches for 85 yards and both receivers had key blocks in Barkley’s 60-yard run for a score on the opening drive. All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun led the Eagles with 12 tackles. The Eagles' defense forced four turnovers and scored 21 points off three fumble recoveries.

After the Eagles lost to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, Sirianni said, “We use this pain, we use this failure to motivate us so we can make it a strength."

The Eagles found another source of motivation for this season — last season's epic collapse, going from a 10-1 start to a 1-5 finish and a loss in the wild-card round.

“It’s been the story of the 2023 to the 2024 Eagles. As bad of a feeling we had about how last year ended, I think it makes you who you are,” Sirianni said Sunday.

Can the Eagles finally tap into the failure fuel and join the 2017 Eagles as the only ones in franchise history to win a Super Bowl?

Barkley is just 30 yards shy of breaking Terrell Davis’ mark of 2,476 total yards rushing set in the 1998 season when the Denver Broncos won the Super Bowl.

“A lot of these things come down to how you finish. And I think being able to lean on him when we’re trying to bring things home, I think that’s a huge impact he’s made for us,” Hurts said.

Barkley could have a triple threat of reasons to celebrate in New Orleans. He could knock Davis out of the top spot in the rushing record book, the Eagles could win the Super Bowl and he turns 28 on Feb. 9.

The Chiefs have allowed 296 total yards rushing in two playoff games.

The Eagles played their most complete game of the season and the 55 points were the most any team has scored in a conference championship game since the 1970 NFL/AFL merger. But it could have been 58.

As he has been for much of the season, Jake Elliott remains perhaps the top concern for the Eagles. He did make all of his extra points for the first time in three playoff games. But he was wide right on a 54-yard field goal attempt in the second quarter, and long distance kicks remain an issue. Elliott's counterpart, Kansas City's Harrison Butker, made a 54-yarder in last year's Super Bowl.

Can the Eagles trust Elliott from way downtown with a championship on the line?

Eagles offensive linemen Cam Jurgens (back) and Landon Dickerson (knee) both played one half of the game with injuries while 36-year-old defensive end Brandon Graham, who has been out since Nov. 24 when he tore his triceps, has hinted all season that he might be able to return for the Super Bowl. “We'll see,” he said Sunday. Running back Kenneth Gainwell was evaluated for a concussion.

3 — The Eagles are one of three NFL teams with four Super Bowl berths since 2004, joining New England (seven) and Kansas City (four) during that stretch. Sirianni is the third head coach to reach multiple Super Bowls in his first four career seasons, joining Joe Gibbs (1982, ’83) and Mike Tomlin (2008, ’10).

Most sports fans remember the Super Bowl matchup between the two teams. The Eagles, though, won the most recent meeting in November 2023. Hurts scored a go-ahead tush-push in the fourth quarter that allowed the Eagles to walk away with a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/eagles-chiefs-4a6675000a3c7bd1a5dabe62742495a7">21-17 victory</a>. Mahomes was held to 177 yards passing with two touchdowns and an interception in the end zone.

TOPEKA. – A magical season for the Hays High School boys’ swim team continues.

On Tuesday at the Topeka High meet, the Indians knocked 7.5 seconds off their previous-best time in the 400-yard relay team to qualify for the state championships.

Their time of 3 minutes, 41.51 seconds capped another successful day for the HHS squad, which has just 11 players on its roster.

The Indians still scored enough points (189) to finish fifth in team scoring, which was dominated by Class 6A heavyweights Lawrence Free State (538) and Lawrence High (339).

Thirty of the Indians’ points came from that state-qualifying 400-yard relay team of senior Marshall Sook, sophomore Cedric Durr and juniors Karsen Flaska and Chase Zadina that finished third in that race.

That foursome also has qualified for state in the 200-yard relay.

Also on Tuesday, Sook qualified for the season finale in the 100-yard freestyle with his personal-best time of 52.44 seconds, good enough for fourth place.

He will have a busy weekend at the Class 5-1A State Championships on Feb. 20-22 in Lenexa, as he had already qualified in the 50-yard freestyle earlier this season.

On Tuesday, Sook placed second in the 50-yard free with a career-best time of 23.11 seconds and also was a member of the 200-yard medley team that finished fourth.

In an extremely competitive field in the 50-yard free, Flaska finished just out of the top 10 in 11th place but still hit a state-consideration time of 24.75.
