GREAT BEND - The TMP-Marian Monarchs 18U baseball team split their doubleheader at the Great Bend triangular Tuesday at the Great Bend Sports Complex. The Monarchs rallied to beat the Pratt 86ers 10-7 before falling 1o-5 to the host Great Bend Chiefs.

The Monarchs are now 8-6 on the season. They host Larned in a doubleheader Thursday at the TMP Field.

Monarchs 10, Pratt 7 Jace Wentling went 3-for-4 with two triples and five RBIs. His first inning triple drove in a run to give TMP the early lead. Wentling later hit a bases-loaded triple which gave the Monarchs the lead in the top of the fifth.

Wentling picked up the win on the mound. He went four innings and gave up five runs (three earned) on five hits with seven strikeouts and five walks.

Great Bend 10, Hays 5 The Monarchs scored five runs in the top of the first inning and led 5-4 until Great Bend scored six in the fourth.

The Chiefs (5-5) took advantage of an error, two walks and a hit batter to start what turned out to be the decisive fourth inning.

TMP walked five and committed two errors in the big frame.

Jace Wentling drove in two of the Monarchs five runs in the first and finished with two hits.

Nick Herman allowed six runs (one earned) on one hit over 1 2/3 innings of relief and suffered the loss.

Monarchs split two games in Great Bend

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - The&nbsp;Kansas City Royals&nbsp;brought their entire six-man draft class to town this week, signing them to their first professional contracts and giving them a chance to see spacious Kauffman Stadium and learn about the organization.

Worry not: In the age of&nbsp;coronavirus, the prospects and their families maintained plenty of social distancing.

The headliner of the crop is Asa Lacy, their first-round pick out of Texas A&amp;M, whom scouting director Lonnie Goldberg believes has the talent to pitch at the front of the rotation. The big, rangy left-hander was widely considered the best arm in the draft earlier this month, yet he slid to the Royals at the fourth overall pick.

The Royals continued the draft by taking Baylor shortstop Nick Loftin in the competitive-balance round; high school right-hander Ben Hernandez in the second; Alabama outfielder Tyler Gentry in the third; Oregon State left-hander Christian Chamberlain in the fourth; and Eastern Illinois right-hander Will Klein in the fifth and final round.

"We're very proud of the players we selected. We're proud of their families and we're proud of the scouting departments and the great work that many people in our staff are doing," Royals general manager Dayton Moore said. "So we wanted to share knowledge, we wanted to share vision, but most importantly we wanted to begin that relationship, and doing what we can to break down barriers and build trust through transparency and learning and growth."

Typically the Royals have a news conference when their first-round pick signs his contract, and then showcase him to fans during a home game. But all that pizzazz was put on hold while the country continues to deal with the coronavirus, which has kept big leaguers sidelined and is likely to prevent minor league baseball from happening at all.

That didn't stop Lacy from marveling at a ballpark that has played host to two World Series in the past six years.

"Just to have all of us here, all the picks, and have us together and have some sense of normalcy, and to kind of learn and realize what we're about to embark on has been special," he said, "and this is only the beginning."

Goldberg said the plan for the rookie class is to join the rest of the Royals' prospects in a series of video meetings, and the hope is that they eventually will be given a green light to begin workouts at their facility in Surprise, Arizona.

The pandemic caused Major League Baseball to shorten its draft to just five rounds, creating a massive pool of undrafted prospects that teams could sign for a maximum of $20,000. The Royals attacked the market the minute the draft ended and came away with seven other players whom many scouts ranked among the top 25 who were still available.

They were Washington State left-hander A.J. Block; Georgia outfielder Tucker Bradley; Arkansas-Little Rock catcher Kale Emshoff; LSU catcher Saul Garza; Texas Tech right-hander John McMillon; Michigan infielder Matt Schmidt; and Tennessee right-hander Chase Wallace.

"They all really want to play baseball," Moore said, "and like I've told Asa and some of the other players that have earned those slots in the draft where they've been awarded pretty good financial packages -- they've earned that. They've earned that through their hard work and commitment and perfecting their skills.

"The other players, because of only five rounds, were kind of left out of that mix a little bit, so it speaks volumes that they just want to play baseball. the Hays Eagles objected, by a coin flip. In the end, no champion was declared after severe storms prevented the title game from being played.

The Hays Senior Eagles were to play Buhler, a team they swept earlier in the week, in the title game after beating Great Bend 6-3 in Sunday's semifinals.

Hays (7-0) scored three in the first then tacked on two in the sixth after the Chiefs (5-5) closed the gap to one.

Carson Jacobs scored on a double-steal then Dalton Dale singled to left for the final run.

Dale picked up the win on the mound, allowing two runs over 2 2/3 innings. Dale struck out three and walked three.

Brady Kreutzer picked up the save after pitching two scoreless innings of relief.

The
Eagles host Smith Center Wednesday at the Hays High Field then begin play at the Salina
Grand Slam Thursday afternoon.

Senior Eagles go 3-0 in Buhler over the weekend

WICHITA - A group of Hays High basketball players went 5-0 to win the 5-6A Division of the Wichita MAYB tournament over the weekend.

The Indians picked up wins over Kapuan Mt. Carmel, Basehor-Linwood twice and Wichita Northwest twice including 61-51 in the championship.

Like the Indians, Kapuan Mt. Carmel and Basehor-Linwood advanced to the semifinals of the 5A State Tournament in Emporia.

Garnett scored six in the bottom of the first to take a 6-4 lead in the second game but Greg Hughes shut the door for the final 3 2/3 innings and picked up the win.

Blake Schmidt went 4-for-4 with four RBIs.

Junior Eagles improve to 7-7 on the season. They play at Buhler Tuesday then at the Kansas Grand Slam in Salina starting Thursday.

a doubleheader sweep of the Colorado Pirates in front of a large Saturday night
crowd at Larks Park. Hays won the opener 10-0 in five innings then took the
second game 7-2.

The two teams close out the Rocky Mountain Baseball League
series Sunday at 7 p.m.

BUHLER – The Hays Senior Eagles blew out the Topeka Senators
12-0 then rallied late to knock off the Topeka Scrappers 3-2 Saturday to earn
the No. 1 seed entering bracket play at the Bob Hooper Showcase.

The Eagles (6-0) open bracket play against the Great Bend Chiefs&nbsp; Sunday
at 1 p.m.&nbsp; The Chiefs (5-3) beat the Wichita Aeros 7-5 and
the Hutchinson Colts 4-3 in pool play.

Eagles 12, Topeka
Senators 0 (5 innings) 
Brock Lummus and Colby Dreiling both had three hits. Lummus homered
and tripled and drove in five runs. He drove in the game's first run with a first inning single. His two-run homer in the fourth
pushed the lead to 6-0. Lummus' two-run triple in the fifth made it 9-0.

Garrett Wellbrock, Dalton Dale and Keatyn Barnett combined
on a two-hit shutout. Wellbrock allowed one hit with two strikeouts and a walk
over the first two innings and picked up the win. Dale pitched two scoreless
innings of relief followed by Barnett who struck out three in
the fifth.

on a two-hit shutout. Wellbrock allowed one hit with two strikeouts and a walk

The win came after the Eagles 9-1 win in game one.

Wentling's first inning single drove in the first of four Monarch runs in the in the first inning. The Monarchs (7-5) scored four more in the second then blew
the game open with six in the third.

and picked up the win.

Salina scored three in the first to take control in game
one. They added five more in the fourth then another in the sixth for the

Monarchs 18U splits with Salina Eagles

MANHATTAN, Kansas – Kansas State Athletics, in conjunction with university and county medical officials, has announced it has paused all voluntary workouts for football student-athletes for 14 days following the most recent COVID-19 test results.

As of June 19, a total of 14 student-athletes have tested positive for active COVID-19 following PCR (polymerase chain reaction) testing of more than 130 student-athletes. The 14 individuals who have tested positive are being medically managed according to current local, state, national, and CDC guidelines, which begins with self-isolation for 10 days and until the patient is without fever for 72 hours without medication, whichever takes longer.

“The health and well-being of our student-athletes will always be our top priority,” Athletics Director Gene Taylor said. “Following the most recent test results, we felt like temporarily pausing all football workouts and access to our facilities was the best decision for everyone. We continue to take this situation very seriously and want to do everything we can to get back to workouts soon.”

The department will continue to work closely and communicate with county and university health officials to evaluate the situation and continue best practices.

K-State pauses all voluntary workouts for football student-athletes

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Prior to our student-athletes returning to participate in voluntary activities, Kansas Athletics has been guided by the medical professionals at Kansas Team Health who have created policies and procedures to be properly prepared for the return of the football student-athletes. The plan created by Kansas Team Health requires COVID-19 testing of student-athletes and staff as well as detailed daily procedures to maintain proper compliance with health and safety guidelines. As of today, 86 football student-athletes received the nasopharyngeal swab and antibody blood tests, and 110 staff members (includes coaches and support staff) received the nasopharyngeal swab test. Of the 86 student-athletes tested, one student athlete tested positive for COVID-19 and another student-athlete tested positive for COVID-19 antibodies. The student-athlete with the positive COVID-19 test had shown no symptoms prior to returning the Lawrence community for voluntary football activities. This individual is self-isolating and is being monitored frequently by medical professionals.

The student-athlete whose test result was positive for antibodies was unaware of previously contracting COVID-19. As detailed in the policies linked above, any student-athlete with a positive antibody test will receive additional evaluation by medical professionals.

Similar testing procedures will apply to all returning student-athletes from other teams. All activities will be closely monitored by the physicians, athletic trainers and strength and conditioning staffs within Kansas Team Health and will follow a stringent set of health and safety guidelines.

Kansas football COVID-19 testing and results update

In a news release Friday, the Hays Larks announced its season opener will be at 6 p.m. Saturday with a&nbsp;doubleheader against the Colorado Pirates.

The game — and the serious — were in doubt after a Larks player tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month.

"In consultation with the Ellis County Health Department, Larks Board 
of Directors and following all applicable KDHE guidelines, the Larks’ 
season will continue," the organization said in a news release. "Larks staff, coaches and players are taking 
measures to maintain a safe and healthy environment and encourage all 
fans to do the same.

"Please maintain social distancing and basic 
hygiene practices while in the park," the organization said in a news 
release. "Please do not attend games if you are ill or feeling ill.&nbsp; We 
look forward to a great season and appreciate the outpouring of support 
from our community and fans."&nbsp;

The Fort Hays State baseball team will play a three-game weekend set against all 11 conference opponents, including six series in Hays and five on the road. For the 2021 season, each three-game set will be played over two days, including one doubleheader and one single game. With the DII Presidents Council's decision to reduce the maximum number of games played to 40, the Tigers can schedule up to seven additional non-conference games. Non-conference matchups and official game dates for league games are to be announced. The conference also announced that the 2021 MIAA Baseball Championship will be an eight-team, double elimination tournament held over four days.

LARNED - The
TMP-Marian Monarchs 18U baseball team was swept on the road by Larned Thursday night. Larned rallied for a 10-2 win in game one then took the second contest 10-2. 

The Monarchs (6-4) led the opener 7-2 before Larned scored
five in the fourth to tie the game, then after TMP scored a run in the top of the fifth to take the lead back,
Larned answered with two in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good.

Mason Robbins had two of TMP's six hits and drove in two runs.

Nick Helget pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief, giving up three runs on four hits and took the loss.

Larned won game one despite committing eight errors.

Fort Hays State senior&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4939">Brandon Ball</a>&nbsp;added yet another major honor to his collection, named to the First Team for 2019-20 after receiving Second Team honors the previous year. Ball is one of just 45 student-athletes nationally in NCAA Division II recognized on the At-Large Team, which combines the sports of wrestling, fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, and water polo. He is one of 17 first-team selections, and just one of three from the sport of wrestling named to the first team. He is the first student-athlete in the history of the Fort Hays State wrestling program to be named an Academic All-America by CoSIDA more than once. Ball is a Technology Studies major at Fort Hays State. He carried a 3.81 cumulative GPA into the spring semester. CoSIDA Academic All-District and All-America honors are based on both a student-athlete's athletic and academic accomplishments. Ball was a men's finalist for the MIAA Ken B. Jones Award as a junior in 2019. With the spring sports season in 2020 canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the MIAA created Fall and Winter Student-Athletes of the Year in 2020 as a temporary replacement for the Ken B. Jones Award. Ball was a finalist for the Winter Student-Athlete of the Year award. Ball was one of the top wrestlers in NCAA Division II throughout his career. He earned All-America honors for the third time in his career in 2020 by finishing 16-1 overall. After a fourth-place national finish in 2019, Ball was poised to make a run at the individual national title once again. However, the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2020 NCAA Wrestling Championships. With no championship event to determine All-America performers this year, the NWCA voted on All-America honors for 2020. Ball held at No. 2 ranking at 141 pounds for the majority of the season. Ball wrapped his storied FHSU career as the program's leader win percentage all time, posting a staggering 130-22 overall record (.855). He was very successful in the classroom as well, earning the MIAA Scholar-Athlete Award and NWCA All-Academic Award four times, while gracing the MIAA Academic Honor Roll five times. nights from Brock Lummus and Carson Jacobs helped the Hays Senior Eagles 19U baseball team to a 10-6 and 8-4 win over the Buhler Nationals at Wheatland Park Wednesday night. 

Jacobs hit a two-run homer off the left field scoreboard to highlight a four-run first inning in the Eagles 10-6 win in game one. Jacobs also singled and drove in three. Lummus had two hits and drove in a pair of runs. Remington Cox also had two RBIs while Brady Kreutzer added three hits.

Kreutzer (1-0) pitched the final 2 2/3 innings of relief and picke dup the win.had three
hits and picked up the win in relief. After giving up a two-run homer to the first batter he faced, Kreutzer struck out the next three and finished with four strikeouts.

Lummus
hit a two-run homer in the first inning of game two then added a three-run shot in the fourth. Remington Cox, Dawson VonFeldt and Dalton Dale also drove in runs. Garrett Wellbrock added three of the Eagles 13 hits.

VonFeldt (1-0) pitched 2 2/3 solid innings for the win. He allowed three runs on four hits with two strikeouts and a walk.

Eagles are now 4-0 on the season. They are back in Buhler Friday for the first two games of the Bob Hooper Showcase. The Eagles open pool play against the Kansas Senators at 11 a.m. then play the Topeka Scrappers at 1:15 p.m.

However, the Tigers will start their year with a pair of non-conference matches against MIAA foes Emporia State and Nebraska-Kearney in Hays, which fills in 13 of their 14 total matches allowed. To ease the burden of finding non-conference matches in previous years under the 18-game model, the MIAA made three pods of four teams each. Schools within their four-team pod would each meet once in non-conference play in addition to their one meeting in conference play. Fort Hays State's pod consists of Emporia State, Nebraska-Kearney, and Washburn. This year, however, with the change in maximum number of regular season games allowed, the MIAA took away one of the three non-conference matches within a pod to keep its 8-team format for the conference tournament. FHSU women’s soccer faces MIAA opponents exclusively in 2020

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;–&nbsp;K-State Athletics will honor a group of 11 outstanding individuals with induction into its Athletics Hall of Fame in September, school officials announced today.

The 2020 Hall of Fame class includes three football greats in&nbsp;David Allen,&nbsp;Jordy Nelson&nbsp;and&nbsp;Darren Sproles,&nbsp;Laurie Koehn&nbsp;(women’s basketball),&nbsp;Liz Wegner&nbsp;(volleyball),&nbsp;A.J. Morris&nbsp;(baseball),&nbsp;Mike Wreblewski&nbsp;(men’s basketball),&nbsp;Attila Zsiovczky&nbsp;(track and field) and&nbsp;Marty, John and Mary Vanier&nbsp;(contributors).

“This year’s group of 11 individuals is a star-studded class, and we are excited to welcome them into the K-State Athletics Hall of Fame,” said&nbsp;Kenny Lannou, Executive Associate Athletics Director for Communications and K-State Athletics Hall of Fame Chairperson. “Each of these inductees has made a lasting impact on K-State Athletics and Kansas State University, and we look forward to welcoming them back to Manhattan this fall for a special induction weekend.”

The class is the 13th in the history of the K-State Athletics Hall of Fame, including the charter class of 1990, and will be honored during the weekend of September 5. Official induction ceremonies will take place on Friday, September 4, before the inductees are recognized at halftime of the football game against Buffalo the following day.

More ceremony details will be announced later this summer.

K-State Athletics Hall of Fame – Class of 2020 Biographies

David Allen starred for K-State football from 1997 through 2000 as a running back and return specialist. Despite an injury-shortened senior season, Allen left K-State as the all-time leader in career punt return average, yards, attempts, and touchdowns, with his seven career punt return touchdowns tying a NCAA record. A three-time All-Big 12 honoree, Allen burst into the national spotlight as a sophomore in 1998, becoming the first and only player to return a punt for a touchdown in three consecutive weeks while setting an NCAA record with four punt returns for touchdowns in a season, earning Consensus First Team All-American honors. In 1999 as a junior, Allen earned First team All-American honors again and was named one of five finalists for the Mosi Tatupu National Special Teams Player of the Year Award. Allen earned the starting running back spot as a senior in 2000, but an injury in the first game of the season ended his career at K-State. Allen went on to play six years of professional football, including five years in the NFL. In 2008, Allen was placed in the Ring of Honor at Bill Snyder Family Stadium and in 2018 was inducted into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame.

Laurie Koehn was one of the greatest sharpshooters in women’s NCAA history while at K-State from 2002-05. She is the all-time leader in 3-point field goals made in Big 12 history with 392 (also a NCAA record until 2020) and in attempts at 942 while also holding the Big 12 record for career free-throw percentage at 87.7. Named the ESPN.com Rookie of the Year as a freshman, Koehn helped the Wildcats explode onto the national spotlight with a 26-8 season and a Sweet 16 appearance in 2002. The Cats followed up that season with a school-record 29-5 campaign in 2003 before claiming the program’s first-ever Big 12 Championship in 2004. Koehn was named All-Big 12 three times during her career and was a two-time Academic All-American. Koehn ranks fifth in school history in career points with 1,733 and remains littered in the record book for 3-pointers. Koehn signed a free agent contract with the Washington Mystics for the 2005 season and went on to enjoy an eight-year professional basketball career both in the WNBA and overseas. Among Koehn’s career international playing highlights was a gold medal as a member of Team USA’s U18 team in July of 2000 at the FIBA Americas Championship and a silver medal as a member of Team USA again in 2003 at the Pan American Games. Koehn was inducted into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.

A.J. Morris led the Wildcats as a junior to their first-ever NCAA Regional appearance. Morris ended the season with a school-record 14 wins a 2.09 ERA, earning Big 12 Pitcher of the Year, First Team All-Midwest Region honors, District Player of the Year, and NCAA Houston All-Regional team honors. Morris was a finalist for two national awards, the College Baseball Foundation Pitcher of the Year Award, and the Golden Spikes Award, given to college baseball’s annual top player. He also became the second Wildcat and first pitcher to ever be named Consensus First Team All-American. Morris set four single-season records including wins, innings pitched, and strikeouts, and saved his best games for the best opponents, going 7-0 with a 1.93 ERA against ranked teams. Morris was a fourth round draft choice by the Washington Nationals in 2009 and played seven seasons in professional baseball, making his MLB debut in 2016 with the Cincinnati Reds and playing with Team Italy at the World Baseball Classic in 2017.

A walk-on safety from Riley, Kansas as a freshman in 2003, Jordy Nelson eventually switched to wide receiver and blossomed into one of the greatest at that position in program history. As a senior in 2007, Nelson totaled 122 catches for 1,606 yards, both school records that stand today. Named as one of three finalists for the Biletnikoff Award, given to the nation’s top college wide receiver, Nelson also was named All-Big 12 as a receiver and as a returner, and became the 10th Wildcat to ever be named a Consensus First Team All-American. His 206 career receptions and 2,822 career yards receiving still rank third all-time, while he also finished his career with six punt returns for touchdowns. A second round draft choice by the Green Bay Packers in 2008, Nelson reached stardom with the Packers and in the NFL, winning Super Bowl XLV in 2011, setting the Packers’ single season receiving record in 2014 and earning his first Pro Bowl selection. Nelson also earned the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year award in 2016 after missing the 2015 season with an injury and leading the NFL in receiving touchdowns. Nelson retired from the NFL in 2019 after 11 seasons with over 600 receptions, nearly 8,600 yards, and eight Green Bay franchise records. Nelson was placed into K-State football’s Ring of Honor in 2015 and is set to be inducted into Wisconsin’s Sports Hall of Fame in 2020.

Arguably the greatest running back ever to play at K-State, Sproles became a three-time All-American while with the Wildcats. In 2003, Sproles was tabbed First Team All-American, finished fifth in the Heisman voting, and third in the voting for Associated Press Player of the Year, all while helping the Wildcats upset No. 1 Oklahoma en route to their first Big 12 title. Sproles still holds numerous school records, including rushing yardage in a single season with 1,986 yards and in a career with 4,979 yards. A gifted returner, Sproles also still holds all-purpose yardage school records for a single season and in a career. A fourth round pick by San Diego in 2005, Sproles became an instant fan favorite, eventually setting the Chargers franchise record for career kickoff return yards. A few years later in 2011 with the Saints, Sproles set the franchise and NFL single season record for all-purpose yardage at 2,696 yards. Sproles earned his first Pro Bowl selection in 2015 after leading the NFL in yards per punt return while with the Eagles and went on to earn three Pro Bowl selections and All-Pro honors in his 15-year NFL career. Sproles retired in 2019 ranking fifth on the NFL’s career all-purpose yardage list with 19,696 yards. A Super Bowl winner with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017 and a member of the San Diego Chargers 50th Anniversary Team, Sproles was also named to the NFL’s All-Decade team for the 2010 era and placed in K-State football’s Ring of Honor in 2015.

The children of K-State legacy family Jack and Donna Vanier, Marty, John, and Mary Vanier have continued the tradition of tremendous support of Kansas State University and K-State Athletics. In addition to their many University, civic, and local honors, awards, and gifts, Marty, John and Mary Vanier have contributed or been part of many critical K-State Athletics projects benefiting Wildcat student-athletes and fans from multiple sports, including but not limited to the K-State Golf Course Foundation at Colbert Hills, the Baseball-Soccer Campaign, the Ice Family Basketball Center, the Football Stadium Capital Improvements for the West Stadium Center, the Vanier Family Football Complex, and the current South End Zone/Building Champions Capital Initiative. Notably, all three were part of the 2005 Vanier family gift to K-State Athletics, then in 2014, the Vanier family gave a transformational gift of $60 million to Kansas State University benefiting many areas across campus, with a portion earmarked for K-State Athletics and specifically the Vanier Family Football Complex. Heavily involved in the support of multiple organizations across K-State’s main and satellite campuses, Marty, John, and Mary Vanier will join their parents, Jack and Donna Vanier, who were inducted in 1995 into the K-State Athletic Hall of Fame.

The first two-time All-American in K-State volleyball history, Liz Wegner-Busch helped the Wildcats to one of their most success four year stretches in school history from 1998-2001. Winning 80 matches over four years and making four NCAA Tournaments, Wegner also set the school record for career kills with 1,907, kills per set at 4.48, 20-kill matches with 27, total attacks at nearly 4,900, and total points at 2,161, over 280 more than the next student athlete. She is one of only three Wildcats to post 30 or more kills two or more times in match, including her career high of 35 against Baylor in 1999, which ranks third in school history. Wegner was also the first K-State attacker to post back-to-back seasons of 500 kills or more in school history. Not just an offensive force, Wegner posted over 1,000 digs in her career to be one of only five players ever with over 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs. Her 44 career double-doubles rank fifth all-time, including three matches of over 20 kills and 20 digs, fourth most in K-State history. A three-time All-Big 12 selection, Wegner became the first Wildcat in school history to be named to an NCAA All-Tournament team when she earned the distinction in 2000 for the Mideast Region. A First Team All-American and school record holder, Mike Wroblewski played for Tex Winter and K-State men’s basketball from 1959-1962. As a senior in 1962, Wroblewski led the Wildcats averaging 19 points and 8.5 rebounds per game for a team that went 22-3 and finished No. 6 in the Associated Press Top 25. His 46 points against rival KU on February 7, 1962 still ranks as the most points in a conference game for K-State, as does his field goals made and attempted from that game. For his efforts, Wroblewski was named a Second Team All-American and First Team All-Big 8 performer. Over his last three years, Wroblewski helped the Wildcats to a 60-18 record, won two Big 8 championships, and appeared in the 1961 Midwest Regional Final (Elite Eight). In 1962, Wroblewski was selected in the fifth round by the Cincinnati Royals in the NBA Draft and was also taken by the Kansas City Bulls in the ABA draft.

A native of Hungary, Attila (uh-TILL-uh) Zsiovczky (zhih-VOSS-key) was a star multi-event track and field student-athlete at K-State from 1997 through 1999. While at K-State, Zsiovczky set a then-indoor school record in the heptathlon with 5,786 points in 1998, a mark that still ranks third all-time and still holds the outdoor school record in the decathlon at 8,379 points, a mark set when he won the European U-23 meet in Sweden in 1999. A two-time Big 12 Indoor Champion in the heptathlon, Zsiovczky also twice placed second at US Outdoor National Championship in the decathlon in 1998 and 1999, to twice earn All-American honors. In addition to his athletic achievements, Zsiovczky was a three-time First Team Academic All-Big 12 selection. Internationally, Zsiovczky competed from 1994 to 2014 in 24 events across the world, placing in the top 10 on 20 occasions and in the top five 15 times. Along with his win at the European U-23 Championships in 1999, Zsiovczky won a World Junior Championship in the decathlon in 1996 in Australia and finished third in the decathlon at the 2005 World Championships in Finland. Zsiovczky also represented his home country of Hungary in the decathlon at three Summer Olympic games – 2000 in Sydney, finishing eighth, 2004 in Athens, finishing sixth, and 2008 in Beijing.

In 1999 as a junior, Allen earned First team All-American honors again and was named one of five finalists for the Mosi Tatupu National Special Teams Player of the Year Award. Allen earned the starting running back spot as a senior in 2000, but an injury in the first game of the season ended his career at K-State. Allen went on to play six years of professional football, including five years in the NFL. In 2008, Allen was placed in the Ring of Honor at Bill Snyder Family Stadium and in 2018 was inducted into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame.Laurie KoehnLaurie Koehn was one of the greatest sharpshooters in women’s NCAA history while at K-State from 2002-05. She is the all-time leader in 3-point field goals made in Big 12 history with 392 (also a NCAA record until 2020) and in attempts at 942 while also holding the Big 12 record for career free-throw percentage at 87.7. Named the ESPN.com Rookie of the Year as a freshman, Koehn helped the Wildcats explode onto the national spotlight with a 26-8 season and a Sweet 16 appearance in 2002. The Cats followed up that season with a school-record 29-5 campaign in 2003 before claiming the program’s first-ever Big 12 Championship in 2004. Koehn was named All-Big 12 three times during her career and was a two-time Academic All-American. Koehn ranks fifth in school history in career points with 1,733 and remains littered in the record book for 3-pointers. Koehn signed a free agent contract with the Washington Mystics for the 2005 season and went on to enjoy an eight-year professional basketball career both in the WNBA and overseas. Among Koehn’s career international playing highlights was a gold medal as a member of Team USA’s U18 team in July of 2000 at the FIBA Americas Championship and a silver medal as a member of Team USA again in 2003 at the Pan American Games. Koehn was inducted into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.A.J. MorrisA.J. Morris led the Wildcats as a junior to their first-ever NCAA Regional appearance. Morris ended the season with a school-record 14 wins a 2.09 ERA, earning Big 12 Pitcher of the Year, First Team All-Midwest Region honors, District Player of the Year, and NCAA Houston All-Regional team honors. Morris was a finalist for two national awards, the College Baseball Foundation Pitcher of the Year Award, and the Golden Spikes Award, given to college baseball’s annual top player. He also became the second Wildcat and first pitcher to ever be named Consensus First Team All-American. Morris set four single-season records including wins, innings pitched, and strikeouts, and saved his best games for the best opponents, going 7-0 with a 1.93 ERA against ranked teams. Morris was a fourth round draft choice by the Washington Nationals in 2009 and played seven seasons in professional baseball, making his MLB debut in 2016 with the Cincinnati Reds and playing with Team Italy at the World Baseball Classic in 2017.Jordy NelsonA walk-on safety from Riley, Kansas as a freshman in 2003, Jordy Nelson eventually switched to wide receiver and blossomed into one of the greatest at that position in program history. As a senior in 2007, Nelson totaled 122 catches for 1,606 yards, both school records that stand today. Named as one of three finalists for the Biletnikoff Award, given to the nation’s top college wide receiver, Nelson also was named All-Big 12 as a receiver and as a returner, and became the 10th Wildcat to ever be named a Consensus First Team All-American. His 206 career receptions and 2,822 career yards receiving still rank third all-time, while he also finished his career with six punt returns for touchdowns. A second round draft choice by the Green Bay Packers in 2008, Nelson reached stardom with the Packers and in the NFL, winning Super Bowl XLV in 2011, setting the Packers’ single season receiving record in 2014 and earning his first Pro Bowl selection. Nelson also earned the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year award in 2016 after missing the 2015 season with an injury and leading the NFL in receiving touchdowns. Nelson retired from the NFL in 2019 after 11 seasons with over 600 receptions, nearly 8,600 yards, and eight Green Bay franchise records. Nelson was placed into K-State football’s Ring of Honor in 2015 and is set to be inducted into Wisconsin’s Sports Hall of Fame in 2020.Darren SprolesArguably the greatest running back ever to play at K-State, Sproles became a three-time All-American while with the Wildcats. In 2003, Sproles was tabbed First Team All-American, finished fifth in the Heisman voting, and third in the voting for Associated Press Player of the Year, all while helping the Wildcats upset No. 1 Oklahoma en route to their first Big 12 title. Sproles still holds numerous school records, including rushing yardage in a single season with 1,986 yards and in a career with 4,979 yards. A gifted returner, Sproles also still holds all-purpose yardage school records for a single season and in a career. A fourth round pick by San Diego in 2005, Sproles became an instant fan favorite, eventually setting the Chargers franchise record for career kickoff return yards. A few years later in 2011 with the Saints, Sproles set the franchise and NFL single season record for all-purpose yardage at 2,696 yards. Sproles earned his first Pro Bowl selection in 2015 after leading the NFL in yards per punt return while with the Eagles and went on to earn three Pro Bowl selections and All-Pro honors in his 15-year NFL career. Winning 80 matches over four years and making four NCAA Tournaments, Wegner also set the school record for career kills with 1,907, kills per set at 4.48, 20-kill matches with 27, total attacks at nearly 4,900, and total points at 2,161, over 280 more than the next student athlete. She is one of only three Wildcats to post 30 or more kills two or more times in match, including her career high of 35 against Baylor in 1999, which ranks third in school history. Wegner was also the first K-State attacker to post back-to-back seasons of 500 kills or more in school history. Not just an offensive force, Wegner posted over 1,000 digs in her career to be one of only five players ever with over 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs. These guidelines would also include quarantine for any individuals known to have been in contact with someone who tested positive. K-State Athletics confirms eight total active positives for COVID-19

HILL CITY - The TMP-Marian Monarchs 18U baseball team sent 20 to the plate and scored 15 runs in the fourth inning of game
two of their doubleheader in Hill City Tuesday night, winning 16-2 to gain a
split. Hill City scored nine runs in the third and won the opener 13-2 in four innings.

Jace Wentling had
two of the Monarchs eight hits&nbsp; in the second game and drove in four runs. Noah Gibson had three RBIs
and Nick Helget two. 

Nick Herman
allowed two runs on two hits with seven strikeouts and five walks in the
four-inning complete game win. 

Ethan
Atherton drove in both runs in the first game.

In game one, Hill City led 3-0 before the Monarchs (6-2) scored two in the top of the third on an Ethan Atherton two-out, two-run double.

Hill City answered with nine runs in the bottom of the inning.

Mark Rack gave up 11 runs (six earned) over 2 2/3 innings and took the loss.

The Monarchs back in action Thursday with a doubleheader in Larned.
