⚾Ellis pitching silences TMP bats in doubleheader sweep

HAYS – Three Ellis pitchers held the TMP-Marian Monarchs to three total hits in a pair of shutout wins Tuesday at TMP in Hays.

Game 1: Ellis 7, TMP 0

Ellis starter Tegan Cain turned in six shutout inning while striking out 13 and the Railroaders scored six runs in the top of the third inning on their way to a 7-0 win in game one of the doubleheader.

Ellis took advantage of a hit-by-pitch to open the game and scored the game’s first run on a wild pitch to lead 1-0 in the top of the first inning.

TMP threatened in their half the first and got a couple of runners aboard but Cain was able to work off the hook, stranding two runners.

After a one out walk in the top of the first Cain turned in four and two-thirds innings of no-hit ball. Jace Wentling’s infield single with two outs in the fifth inning broke up Cains no-hit bid. At one point Cain retired 13 of 15 hitters he faced.

Cain allowed just the one hit with 13 strikeouts and walked two in the victory as he improved to 2-0 on the year..

In Ellis’ six-run third inning Tyson Jimenez led off the inning with an inside-the-park home run to make is 2-0.

Jarrett Mader added an RBI single making it 3-0 before Ellis scored on an error, back-to-back base loaded walks and a hit-by-pitch to take a 7-0 lead through two and a half innings.

TMP’s Caden Morgan suffered the loss for TMP. He allowed six runs, just one earned, in two and a third innings. He struck out one and walked one.

Game 2: Ellis 7, TMP 0

Ellis’ Tyson Jimenez allowed only a single with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning in seven shutout innings in game two of the doubleheader.

Both teams threatened, getting runners aboard in their half of the first inning but neither team was able to manufacture any offense.

For TMP Jace Wentling reached on a two-base error to lead off the game. Jimenez would go on to retire the next 14 batters he faced before allowing a two-out walk in the fifth.

It took a one-out base hit by Caden Morgan in the bottom of the seventh to break up the no-hit bid.

Jimenez turned in seven shutout innings with 13 strike outs, two walks and just one-hit allowed as he moved to 3-0 on the season.

The Ellis offense kicked off a four-run third inning with Jimenez collecting his first of three walks in the game. Two hitters later Jimenez scored on a wild pitch to put Ellis up 1-0.

The Railers added runs on an error, ground out and a George Crawford RBI single for a 4-0 lead.

Ellis added single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings on their way to the 7-0 win.

TMP starter Mark Rack allowed four runs, just one earned, on three hits with four strikeouts and three walks in two and two-thirds innings and suffered the loss.

The Monarchs committed seven errors in the loss and only one of the seven runs were earned in the game.

Ellis’ Tegan Cain was two-for-five with an RBI and two runs scored.

Ellis improved to 6-0 while TMP dropped to 4-2.

TMP is scheduled to host Russell on Friday.
