PHILLIPSBURG – The TMP girls and boys basketball teams split
a MCL doubleheader with Phillipsburg Friday night.

The Phillipsburg Lady Panthers clinched their first MCL
regular season title since 1973 Friday night as they rallied to beat the TMP
Lady Monarchs 55-46.

Phillipsburg rushed out to a 9-2 first quarter lead and the
Panthers led 11-6 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter Phillipsburg’s Taryn Sides scored five
quick points to put the Panthers up 10 at 16-6.

Down 10 TMP put together a 13-0 run capped off by
back-to-back steals and layups from Jaci VonLintel and Kyleigh Allen giving TMP
the 19-16 lead. Phillipsburg would close the first-half on a 10-2 run to build
a 26-21 lead.

After TMP tied the game at 26 to open the second half
Phillipsburg got a pair of free throws to take a 28-26 lead. But the Monarchs’
Kyleigh Allen hit a three to put TMP up 29-28. The Monarchs led by six twice in
the third quarter including 36-30 at the end of the quarter.

Down six to open the fourth quarter Phillipsburg outscored
TMP 14-2 and built a 44-38 lead. TMP closed within five twice in the fourth quarter
but Phillipsburg made enough free throws down the stretch on their way to the
55-46 win.

Sides led three Panthers in double-figures with 22 points.
TMP’s Emilee Lane led three Monarchs in double-figures with 18 points.

Phillipsburg improves to 16-3 and 8-1 in the MCL. TMP drops
to 5-11 and 2-5 in the MCL.

The TMP boys fell down by 20 points in the second half and Ryan
Stoecklein and Jackson Schulte combined to score 20 of TMP’s 22 fourth quarter
points on their way to a 65-60 win.

Both the Monarchs and the Panthers got out to quick starts Friday
night with the two teams scoring a combined 27 first quarter points.

In the second quarter TMP’s Jackson Schulte gave the
Monarchs a 23-22 lead on his second first-half three but the lead would be short-lived.
Phillipsburg took control of the game in the second quarter, finishing the
first-half on a 16-4 run to build a 38-27 lead.

It was much of the same in the third quarter as Phillipsburg
built a 20-point lead at 52-32. But down 20 the Monarchs defense settled in and
Mason Robbins’ second three-pointer of the quarter sparked an 11-0 run to end
the third quarter as TMP cut the deficit to nine at 52-43.

After briefly falling back down by 11 at 54-43 Stoecklein
hit his first of two fourth quarter three pointers that sparked a 22-4 fourth
quarter run that allowed TMP to go from down 11 to up five on their way to a
65-60 win.

Stoecklein and Schulte each scored 10 of the game-high 18
points in the fourth quarter for TMP. Robbins added a career-high 14 points.

Ty Sides led three Panthers in double-figures with 17.

TMP improved to 13-2 and 6-1 with the win. Phillipsburg
drops to 11-9 and 6-3.

TMP returns to action Saturday against Sacred Heart.

OSBORNE- This weeks Area Game of the Week took us to Osborne where the hometown Bulldogs were set to do battle with their neighbor to the West, the Stockton Blue Tigers.

The girls game started off the evening. Stockton was looking to put an end to a 4-game losing skid. Osborne was on the search for win number 10.&nbsp;

The Blue Tigers got hot early and led 20-12 after a quarter. Things stayed hotly contested in the second quarter and Stockton led 35-28 at the half.

Osborne slowly chipped away at the lead, and Stockton led by a single point, 43-42, heading into the final frame.

The final quarter was a wild one, as Osborne jumped out to a 6 point lead, their first since the first quarter. The Blue Tigers made a mini comeback of their own and things were tied at 51 with under a minute to play.&nbsp;

Stockton senior Ellie Bellerive hit a short jumper to give the Blue Tigers a 53-51 lead. The Bulldogs came down looking for the tie or the win and senior Rhyann Brown made it to the free throw line for a 1-and-1 that could've tied things up. However, she missed the front end and the rebound came down to Stockton. A couple of free throws later it was over, with the Blue Tigers 55-51 winners.

Senior Shae Griffin had 20 points and 7 rebounds in the win. sophomore Olivia Dix had 12 and senior Tatum Hamilton had 10.&nbsp;

Freshman Trinity Lutters of Osborne led all scorers with 22 points. Rhyann Brown had a double-double with a dozen points and 10 boards.

The boys game was next. It provided a high flying match-up full of points and action.

Osborne came out hot, as sophomore Grady Wolters knocked down multiple 3s, giving the Bulldogs a 24-17 lead after a quarter.

The Blue Tigers used the second quarter to make up ground. Both teams scored prolifically en-route to a 41-37 halftime score.

The third quarter was a dog fight, until the end of the quarter when senior Steele Wolters knocked down 2 big 3s, giving the Bulldogs a 63-51 lead heading into the final frame.

Stockton made several valiant comeback attempts, but could never get over the hump, falling 81-69.

Steele Wolters had a monster night, pouring in 36 points. Grady Wolters went 7/8 from 3-point land for 21 points. Senior Connor Goheen had 14 and 10 for a double-double.

Junior Ethan Means led the Stockton scoring effort with 22 points. He also had 9 rebounds.

Stockton falls to 9-9 on the year. They host Lacrosse on Tuesday.

Osborne stays undefeated on the year and will likely retain their number 1 ranking in 1A. They travel to Mankato next to play Rock Hills.

Machia Mullens led an efficient Liberal attack with 17 points as the Redskins shot 54% from the field.&nbsp; Aleyia Ruder scored in double figures for the sixth times this year as she dumped in 11 points.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Hays falls to 4-12 on the year and 1-5 in Western Athletic Conference play.&nbsp; Liberal is #2 in 6A and moves to 17-0 and has won 51 consecutive regular season games and 21 straight conference contests.

Hays scored the first eight points of the game and never trailed in Liberal winning 67-56.&nbsp; The Indians built a 16 point lead early in the second quarter before the Redskins pulled within eight late in the quarter.&nbsp; The Indians scored the final five points of the second quarter for a 32-19 halftime lead.

A second half three point barrage from Liberal kept the game close but the Indian advantage never dipped below eight points.&nbsp; Hays kept the lead thanks to 61% shooting on the game and 10 of 15 in the second half.&nbsp;

Liberal sent Hays to the free throw line in the fourth quarter 18 times and the Indians responded by making 13 of those attempts.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Hays outscored Liberal 21-7 in the first quarter and was outscored by three points rest of the game.

Carson Kieffer established a career high for a second consecutive game with 17 points.&nbsp; Dalyn Schwarz added 15 and Jason Krannawitter scored 10.

Hays improves to 10-6 on the year and 5-1 in the WAC.&nbsp; Liberal falls to 7-10 and 2-5 in conference play.

Hays boys win, girls lose in Valentine's date with Liberal



HAYS, Kan. - The Fort Hays State baseball team made quick work of New Mexico Highlands on Friday, winning 10-0 in seven innings. It was the first shutout for the Tigers since Opening Day 2018, a span of 100 games. Additionally, it was the first run rule victory for FHSU since defeating this same Cowboys team 18-8 on February 12, 2017.

The Tigers (6-3) never trailed in the contest, pushing across three runs in the first and never looking back. Estevan De La O led off with a single for NMHU (0-1, but Tiger starter&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5290">Zach Berg</a>&nbsp;worked around the hit with a pair of strikeouts to put up the first of seven zeros on the top half of the scoreboard.

FHSU took the lead just two batters into the home half when&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5291">Garrett Stephens</a>&nbsp;plated&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5273">Drake Angeron</a>&nbsp;from second, who had just swiped his NCAA-leading 11th base of the season.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5298">Corbin Truslow</a>&nbsp;broke things open with a two-run shot to right, sending a 2-2 pitch through the teeth of the wind and well over the fence.

Berg added two more strikeouts in the second before the offense put up another crooked number, batting around and plating five in the second. After the first two batters were retired in the inning,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5276">Griffin Brunson</a>&nbsp;kept the inning alive by beating out an infield single. Angeron then reached on an error by the second baseman, prolonging the inning.

Fort Hays State made the Cowboys pay for their mistake, rattling off four more hits that led to five unearned runs.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5289">Grant Schmidt</a>&nbsp;drove in a pair with the first triple of the season for the Tigers, crushing a pitch sailing into deep center. Truslow added another RBI with a wind-aided double to left center before coming in to score on a throwing error.

While Berg continued to deal on the mound, facing the minimum in the third and fourth, FHSU added single runs in both innings to stretch the lead to 10-0. Angeron plated Brunson with a single to left in the third before&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5293">Jaxson Webb</a>&nbsp;drove in&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5444">Jeb Sauer</a>&nbsp;with a two-out, two-strike, opposite-field single down the right-field line.

Berg blanked the Cowboys in the fifth and sixth innings, allowing multiple baserunners in a frame only once, before&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5302">Brayden Smith</a>&nbsp;came on to record the final three outs in order.

Berg (2-0) picked up his second win after striking out six batters and allowing just six baserunners over six scoreless innings. Stephens was 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, with Truslow adding two hits, two runs and three RBI. After collecting hits in six of the first eight games, Brunson tallied multiple hits for the first time this season, finishing 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

The Tigers and Cowboys will resume the four-game series on Saturday (Feb. 15) with a doubleheader beginning at noon.

Berg's gem and offensive outburst helps Tigers shutout Cowboys



OKLAHOMA CITY – Fort Hays State fell in its first game of five over the weekend in Oklahoma on Friday. The Tigers battled to a 1-1 tie up until the sixth inning when Oklahoma Christian rallied for seven runs. Oklahoma Christian, an NCAA Tournament participant from last year, won 8-1 moving to 10-2 overall on the season, while FHSU moved to 4-2 overall.

The Tiger bats struggled to find hits on Friday evening, scratching out just three. The biggest of the three came from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5351">Alexis Velazquez</a>&nbsp;with two outs in the third. After Oklahoma Christian used a pair of walks and a pair of singles in the bottom of the second to take a 1-0 lead, Velazquez responded with the clutch base knock in the third, scoring&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5342">Terran Caldwell</a>&nbsp;from third. Caldwell reached by error to open the inning.

<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5358">Kristen Reed</a>&nbsp;gave the Tigers their final hit of the game to lead off the top of the sixth. Unfortunately, it did not spark a rally as the left fielder made a diving catch on a looping fly ball off the bat of Velazquez in the next at bat. A strike out and pop up left Reed stranded at first and the score still knotted 1-1 going into the bottom half of the inning.

With the exception of the one run allowed in the second inning, FHSU starter&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5344">Hailey Chapman</a>&nbsp;was able to work around runners in scoring position in the first, third, and fifth innings. However, she could not find put away pitches in the sixth in key two-strike situations. Chapman was up 1-2 in the count to start the inning, but Oklahoma Christian's Daelyn Denny fouled off a pair of pitches and worked the count full. She then sat on a pitch on the outer half of the plate and drove the ball into right-center field for a leadoff triple. It was the start of a big Eagle rally.

Chapman got the next batter to pop up, leaving the runner at third momentarily, but could not escape danger from there on out. Kelsey Gammage laced the first pitch she saw into center field, plating the go-ahead run for the Eagles. However, instead of limiting damage and giving the offense a chance in the seventh, Tiger pitchers were unable to stop the bleeding. A single, double steal, and a walk loaded the bases. Like in the key at bat to open the inning, Chapman had Katelyn Dunckel down two strikes right away, but Dunckel pushed a ball on a 1-2 count through the right side of the infield for a single plating two more runs. Chapman walked another batter before yielding the ball to&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5348">Michaelanne Nelson</a>&nbsp;looking for the final out. Nelson had a two-strike count on pinch hitter Karrah Dean, but made a mistake over the heart of the plate that Dean drove over the left-center field wall for a grand slam. Oklahoma Christian tallied seven runs in the sixth, six on hits with two-strike counts.

Following her grand slam, Dean came in to pitch in the seventh and retired the Tiger side by surrendering just a walk. She spelled Eagle starter Kali Crandall, who struck out eight in her six innings of work. Crandall moved to 5-0 on the season. Crandall nearly replicated her performance against the Tigers from a year before. In 2019, she shut the Tigers out on four hits with 10 strikeouts through seven innings of work. This time she allowed just three hits in six innings, and the one run allowed was unearned.

Chapman took the loss for FHSU, moving to 2-2. She allowed nine hits and six walks in 5.2 innings, while registering one strikeout. Four of the nine hits and two of the six walks occurred in the sixth inning.

The Tigers look to scrap Friday's finish and look forward to a new day Saturday when they play back-to-back games against St. Edward's and Chadron State. Both games are at Broncho Softball Stadium in Edmond, the home of the University of Central Oklahoma softball team. Games are at 10 am and 12 pm.

up wins in both games for Oklahoma Christian, while Kali Crandall who is
 just a sophomore this year had 10 strikeouts in the Game 2 start. FHSU 
had just 7 hits in the doubleheader from 6 different players, led by <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5349">Grace Philop</a>
 with 2. FHSU is still looking for its first-ever win over Oklahoma 
Christian, entering at 0-7 in the all-time series. Oklahoma Christian 
played in the South Central Regional of the NCAA Division II National 
Tournament last year, reaching the championship round against Texas 
A&amp;M-Kingsville, the region's No. 1 seed. Kingsville went on to reach
 the national championship best-of-3 series, falling two games to one to
 Augustana (S.D.).

- Fort Hays State and St. Edward's last met during the 2018 season in San Antonio, Texas. The Tigers won that meeting 5-3. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5344">Hailey Chapman</a> had a two-inning save in that game, while <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5341">Sara Breckbill</a> had 2 hits and 2 RBIs. FHSU is 2-0 in the overall series with SEU.

- FHSU and Chadron State meet for the second time this season on 
Saturday. The Eagles handed the Tigers their only loss last weekend in 
Lubbock, Texas by a score of 4-1. DeAnna Barrera of CSC threw a complete
 game against FHSU, striking out seven without an earned run allowed. 
The Tigers generated their only run on a fielding error by the Eagles. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5344">Hailey Chapman</a> allowed three runs in 3.1 innings of work. Chadron State holds a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series.

- FHSU and Colorado Christian meet in nearly the same location as they 
did last year, just a bit further down the road to the south. FHSU took a
 neutral site contest against the Cougars last year at Broncho Softball 
Stadium in Edmond by a score of 11-4. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5348">Michaelanne Nelson</a> was the winner in that game, going 4.2 innings with a pair of strikeouts. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5342">Terran Caldwell</a> and <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5339">Katie Adler</a> both had multi-hit performances in that meeting, while <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5340">Bailey Boxberger</a> had 3 RBIs and <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5343">Elise Capra</a>
 hit a solo home run. Colorado Christian swept a pair from the Tigers in
 2018 in Lakewood. FHSU holds a 3-2 advantage in the all-time series 
with CCU.

- Fort Hays State and Oklahoma Baptist meet on the same field for the 
second straight year. The teams played a neutral site doubleheader at 
Tom Heath Field last year. Oklahoma Baptist swept that doubleheader by 
scores of 12-4 and 11-8. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5346">Megan Jamison</a>
 saw the majority of work in the pitching circle in game one, throwing 4
 innings of relief. Chapman and Nelson will be looking for redemption 
this year against OBU as Chapman allowed 11 runs in 3.2 innings and 
Nelson allowed 5 runs in 2.2 innings during last year's doubleheader. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5341">Sara Breckbill</a>
 had a 4-hit day in the doubleheader for the Tigers. Katie Long was the 
winning pitcher for OBU in both games, throwing the final 9.2 innings of
 the day with 6 runs allowed to earn a relief win in Game 1 and a 
complete game win in Game 2. Long is a junior this year. FHSU is 1-3 
all-time against Oklahoma Baptist.


- Fort Hays State's 4-1 start is the best 5-game start for the program 
since the 2014 season, which also posted the same mark in the first five
 games of the season. The 2014 team started 7-1 and was 8-2 through the 
first 10 games of the season.

- <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5358">Kristen Reed</a>
 leads the team in batting average for players with at least 10 at bats.
 She hit .412 in the first weekend of play with 7 knocks in 17 at bats. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5351">Alexis Velazquez</a>
 was right behind her at a .400 clip, going 6-of-15 at the dish. The 
pair of Tiger newcomers combined for 13 RBIs last week, while remaining 
patient at the dish with a team-best 3 walks each. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5357">Loren Beggs</a>
 posted a .556 batting average with 5 hits in 9 at bats. Four of the 
five hits were in games where she entered as a pinch hitter. Beggs is 
slugging .889 with three of her five hits being doubles. All three 
players have an on-base percentage of .500 or better.

- <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5350">Lily Sale</a> and <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5342">Terran Caldwell</a>
 are leading the way in runs scored for FHSU. Sale crossed the plate six
 times last week, while Caldwell crossed five times. Four other players 
scored four runs the first weekend of play. Sale hit a three-run home 
run in the win over New Mexico Highlands, the first homer in her 
four-year career at FHSU.

- <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5351">Alexis Velazquez</a>
 hit a grand slam in the 14-10 season-opening win over UC-Colorado 
Springs. It was the first grand slam by a Tiger since March 26, 2017.

- Pitchers <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5348">Michaelanne Nelson</a> and <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5344">Hailey Chapman</a>
 both have strong strikeouts per 7 innings pitched rates through one 
weekend of play. Nelson averaged 10.3 strikeouts per seven innings last 
week, while Chapman averaged 8.1. Nelson posted 11 strikeouts in the win
 over Southern Nazarene, her career high as a Tiger. However, elevated 
WHIP (walks+hits/innings pitched) rates led to a team ERA of 4.94 
through five games. Nelson has a WHIP of 1.53, while Chapman is at 2.02.
 Five of the 16 walks, along with one hit batter, issued between the two
 last weekend turned into runs for the opposition. The pair is limiting 
extra-base damage by the opposition to just 19 percent as eight of the 
42 hits allowed went for extra bases.

- Fort Hays State and Oklahoma Baptist meet on the same field for the 
second straight year. The teams played a neutral site doubleheader at 
Tom Heath Field last year. Oklahoma Baptist swept that doubleheader by 
scores of 12-4 and 11-8. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5346">Megan Jamison</a>
 saw the majority of work in the pitching circle in game one, throwing 4
 innings of relief. Chapman and Nelson will be looking for redemption 
this year against OBU as Chapman allowed 11 runs in 3.2 innings and 
Nelson allowed 5 runs in 2.2 innings during last year's doubleheader. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5341">Sara Breckbill</a>
 had a 4-hit day in the doubleheader for the Tigers. Katie Long was the 
winning pitcher for OBU in both games, throwing the final 9.2 innings of
 the day with 6 runs allowed to earn a relief win in Game 1 and a 
complete game win in Game 2. Long is a junior this year. FHSU is 1-3 
all-time against Oklahoma Baptist.
- Fort Hays State's 4-1 start is the best 5-game start for the program 
since the 2014 season, which also posted the same mark in the first five
 games of the season. The 2014 team started 7-1 and was 8-2 through the 
first 10 games of the season.

 leads the team in batting average for players with at least 10 at bats.
 She hit .412 in the first weekend of play with 7 knocks in 17 at bats. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5351">Alexis Velazquez</a>
 was right behind her at a .400 clip, going 6-of-15 at the dish. The 
pair of Tiger newcomers combined for 13 RBIs last week, while remaining 
patient at the dish with a team-best 3 walks each. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5357">Loren Beggs</a>
 posted a .556 batting average with 5 hits in 9 at bats. Four of the 
five hits were in games where she entered as a pinch hitter. Beggs is 
slugging .889 with three of her five hits being doubles. All three 
players have an on-base percentage of .500 or better.
- <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5350">Lily Sale</a> and <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5342">Terran Caldwell</a>
 are leading the way in runs scored for FHSU. Sale crossed the plate six
 times last week, while Caldwell crossed five times. Four other players 
scored four runs the first weekend of play. Sale hit a three-run home 
run in the win over New Mexico Highlands, the first homer in her 
four-year career at FHSU.

 hit a grand slam in the 14-10 season-opening win over UC-Colorado 
Springs. It was the first grand slam by a Tiger since March 26, 2017.
- Pitchers <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5348">Michaelanne Nelson</a> and <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5344">Hailey Chapman</a>
 both have strong strikeouts per 7 innings pitched rates through one 
weekend of play. Nelson averaged 10.3 strikeouts per seven innings last 
week, while Chapman averaged 8.1. Nelson posted 11 strikeouts in the win
 over Southern Nazarene, her career high as a Tiger. However, elevated 
WHIP (walks+hits/innings pitched) rates led to a team ERA of 4.94 
through five games. Nelson has a WHIP of 1.53, while Chapman is at 2.02.
 Five of the 16 walks, along with one hit batter, issued between the two
 last weekend turned into runs for the opposition. The pair is limiting 
extra-base damage by the opposition to just 19 percent as eight of the 
42 hits allowed went for extra bases.

FHSU softball team prepares for five-game weekend in Okla.

The Fort Hays State baseball team returns to action this weekend when the Tigers host New Mexico Highlands in a four-game series. 
The teams will battle in a single game on Friday beginning at 3 p.m. 
before a doubleheader starting at noon on Saturday. The series will wrap
 up with a noon finale on Sunday.


The Tigers are 5-3 on the year, while the Cowboys have yet to play a game this season.


Fort Hays State is 52-25 all-time against New Mexico Highlands, 
including a 27-10 record in Hays. The former RMAC rivals have renewed 
the series in non-conference play each of the last four years, with the 
Tigers holding a slim 7-6 lead in the series since 2016. Highlands took 
all four games of the series last year in Las Vegas, N.M. The Cowboys 
have not won a game in Hays since 2006. FHSU has never lost a series 
against the Cowboys in Hays.

FHSU baseball hosts Cowboys in four-game home set

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Fort Hays State used balanced scoring and
some timely three-point shooting in the second half to beat Central Missouri
65-50 Thursday at the Multipurpose Building. The Tigers (12-11, 5-9 MIAA) won
their fifth straight and move into ninth-place in the conference standings.&nbsp;The top 10 teams advance to next month’s MIAA Tournament in Kansas City.

It's the Tigers first road win in conference play and their first win on the road since November 17th when they knocked of UC-Colorado Springs.

The Tigers used a 10-0 run to turn a seven-point first half
deficit into a three-point lead at 22-19. A 14-4 run helped them extend their
two-point halftime lead to 12.

After the Mules closed the gap to five, Perry Carroll hit
back-to-back threes to push the lead back to double-figures with 8:53 to play.
UCM (9-14, 4-10 MIAA) would never get closer than eight the rest of the way.

The Tigers shot 56-percent in the second half and 46-percent
for the game. They hit seven of their 10 three-pointers after halftime and
finished 10-fo-22 from beyond the arc.

The Tigers were led in scoring by Jared Vitztum, Calvin
Harrington, Perry Carroll and Jake Hutchings who all scored 11 points. Devin
Davis added eight and pulled down a career-high 12 rebounds.

22nd-ranked FHSU wrestling falls to No. 3 Lopers

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – After battling back from a couple of
double-digit deficits, the Fort Hays State women were held scoreless over the
final 2:03 and fall 76-69 to No. 24 Central Missouri Thursday night at the
Multipurpose Building. The conference leading Jennies (19-4, 13-1 MIAA) closed
the game on a 9-0 run, seven of them on free throws.

The Tigers (17-6, 8-6 MIAA, who have lost two straight, trailed
by 11 at the end of the first quarter. They scored the first 12 points of the
second quarter to go up 22-21 with 4:26 to play in the half.

Down three at halftime, FHSU quickly fell behind by 10 early
in the third, but a 9-0 run closed the gap to one at 41-40. Neither team would
lead by more than five the rest of the way.

Five players scored in double figures for the Tigers, led by Hobbs' 16 points. The junior added five assists, four rebounds and one steal. Randall tallied 14 points, seven rebounds and two steals, with Bergmann chipping in 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. Mittie contributed 11 points, with Barbieri picking up 10 points and two blocks.

Morgan Flemming scored a season-high 29 to lead the Jennies.
Fellow senior Megan Skaggs scored 23.

Thursday win would clinch MIAA berth for Tiger women

The 22nd-ranked Fort Hays State wrestling team wraps up its regular 
season home schedule Thursday when the Tigers host No. 3 
Nebraska-Kearney. Action on the mat is slated to begin at 7 p.m. inside 
Gross Memorial Coliseum.

The Tigers will recognize the four seniors on this year's roster with a 
Senior Night ceremony before the dual begins. This year's senior class 
includes <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5381">Brandon Ball</a>, <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5384">Dy'Juan Carney</a>, <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5386">Conrad Cole</a> and <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5388">Jordan Davis</a>.


The Tigers carry a 5-5 dual record into Thursday, including a 1-1 mark 
in the MIAA. The third-ranked Lopers are 12-6 on the year and 2-1 in 
conference action.


Ball is wrapping up his fifth year as a Tiger. The two-time All-American
 has racked up 126 wins over the last five years and his winning 
percentage of 85.7 percent is the best mark in program history.


Carney has been with the Tigers for three seasons, accumulating 31 wins 
on the mat. The Tallahassee, Fla. native took home third place at this 
year's Bob Smith Open. He has earned both the NWCA All-Academic honors 
and has been listed on the MIAA Academic Honor roll.


Cole is in his fourth year at Fort Hays State. The Brush, Colo. native 
has won 49 matches as a Tiger, including a third-place finish at the 
2018 MIAA Championship Tournament. He was runner-up at this year's Bob 
Smith Open and twice finished third at the Kansas Cup. Cole has been 
listed on the MIAA&nbsp;Academic Honor Roll three times and earned D2WCA and 
NWCA All-Academic Team honors.


Davis has been with the Tigers for five years, racking up 49 wins on the
 mat, including a 17-8 mark this season. He was named MIAA Wrestler of 
the week earlier this year after a runner-up finish in the Elite 285 
bracket at the Kaufman/Brand/Bayly Open in his hometown of St. Louis, 
Mo.


Nebraska-Kearney has five wrestlers ranked wrestlers in its lineup, 
including four in the top five of their respective weight class.Josh 
Portillo is the top-ranked wrestler at 125 pounds and comes into the 
week 22-7 on the year. Matt Malcom&nbsp;(26-7) ranks second at 165 pounds, 
Wesley Dawkins (22-9) is fourth at 133 pounds, Jarrod Hinrichs&nbsp;(15-4) 
comes in fifth at 285 pounds and Jonathan Killingsworth (20-6) is ranked
 11th at 141 pounds.


The Tigers are 26-41 all-time against UNK, with the last win coming at the end of the 2000-01 season.


While Thursday is the final regular season home contest for the Tigers,

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) -&nbsp;Yor Anei scored 15 and had seven rebounds, Lindy Waters III added 12 points and Oklahoma State beat Kansas State 64-59. 

 Jonathan Laurent had 11 points and Cameron McGriff provided 10 as the Cowboys picked up their first win against Kansas State since 2017 and now sit in a tie for ninth place in the conference with the Wildcats. 

Mike McGuirl led Kansas State with a season-high 16 points. It was the first conference road win of the season for Oklahoma State.
