🥎 Hays High settles for split with Garden City

HAYS – Hays High got a walkoff 5-4 eight inning win in game one of their doubleheader with Garden City Tuesday. The Buffaloes took the second game 9-5 as the Indians move 3-4 on the season and 1-4 in the Western Athletic Conference.

Game 1: Hays 5, Garden City 4 (8 innings)

Ashlynn Zimmer singled with one out in the eighth, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball then scored the game winning run on a passed ball.

Garden City scored two in the top of the first. The Indians tied the game with two in the bottom of the fifth then took a 3-2 lead with a run in the sixth on freshman Lakymn Zimmerman’s double to left scoring Zimmer.

The Buffs scored two in the top of the seventh to take a 4-3 lead but Hays forced extra innings when Morgen Berry singled to right scoring freshman Dezarae Schmidt with two outs.

Freshman Aubree Thomas allowed two unearned runs with eight strikeouts and no walks for the win.

Game 2: Garden City 9, Hays 5
The Indians struck first, scoring three in the bottom of the first and led 4-1 after two innings, but the Buffs scored three in the third and four in the fourth to take control.

Morgen Berry had two of the Indians six hits and drove in a run. Raegan Winter knocked in two runs.

The Indians committed five errors resulting in six unearned runs.

Thomas struck out 10 without allowing a walk but gave up 12 hits and took the loss.
