🏃‍♀️ Tiger women win four events at ESU Midwest Classic

EMPORIA, Kan. – Fort Hays State Women's Track and Field put together a strong effort at the Emporia State Midwest Classic on Saturday (Apr. 17). FHSU won four events, which included three individual and one relay, while also compiling 13 top-three finishes in events.

Lyric Holman and Mattie Rossi each notched a win in individual events, and also teamed with Taylor Savolt and Tori Poe on the 4x100 meter relay team that won in a time of 47.83. Holman topped the field in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.79 seconds, good for a provisional mark but just .09 seconds shy of her best effort of the outdoor season so far. Rossi won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.73 seconds. Holman and Rossi also took home third place individual finishes, Holman in the 200 meters in a time of 24.52 seconds and Rossi in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:06.13. Savolt was just in front of Rossi in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:05.21, good for second place.

Addie Berens and Rhyann Brown both hit provisional marks in the javelin, topping a field of 16 throwers. Berens won with a throw of 139'3", while Brown was just a foot behind at 138'3". Both have stronger tosses this outdoor season.

Laurel Haley turned in a pair of top-three finishes in throwing events. She finished second in the hammer throw with an effort of 176'7", good for a provisional mark but not her best effort of the outdoor season. She was third in the discus with a throw of 129'5".

Putting up third-place finishes were Emily Salmans in the 400 meters (58.58 seconds), Hannah Wiebe in the 800 meters (2:21.89), and Taylor Linn in the pole vault (11'2.5").

Fort Hays State finished second in the team scoring with 146.5 points. Emporia State won its home meet with a score of 156.5.

Next action scheduled for the Tigers will be on April 24 at the Pittsburg State Tune-Up in Pittsburg, Kan.
