INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Justin Herbert didn't throw a touchdown pass for the first time in 27 games. For once, it didn't matter thanks to the Los Angeles Chargers special teams.

Dustin Hopkins kicked four field goals, including a&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nfl.com/videos/dustin-hopkins-gw-39-yard-fg-in-ot-sends-chargers-faithful-home-happy">39-yarder with 2:38 remaining in overtime</a>, as the Chargers rallied for a 19-16 victory over the Denver Broncos.

Hopkins, who injured a hamstring during the first half, grimaced as he kicked the ball and fell to the ground before being picked up by teammates. The ninth-year kicker was inactive for last week's game against Cleveland due to a quadriceps injury.

Hopkins' heroics were set up when Deane Leonard recovered a muffed punt at the Denver 28-yard line.

Herbert, who is still recovering from fractured rib cartilage from a hit one month ago, appreciated Hopkins being able to gut it out.

“We’ve got so much respect for him. For him to go out there and play and put up with some pain like that, it was great to see,” said Herbert, whose 56 attempts without a TD pass is an NFL record in a win.

Coach Brandon Staley said Hopkins' hamstring kind of cramped up early, but started to loosen up during the second half.

“You can’t say enough about him hanging in there," Staley said. "At the end we had no choice. We were going to kick no matter what.”

Hopkins has five games with four or more field goals. It is also the first OT game-winner of his career.

“I was trying to focus on a little backswing and just get through the ball. And that was it,” Hopkins said. “I wasn’t thinking about the circumstance or anything like that.”

The Chargers have won three straight to improve to 4-2. They are tied with Kansas City atop the AFC West. It is the first time in franchise history they have rallied from a double-digit deficit at the end of the first quarter to win.

Los Angeles was down 14-3 at the end of the first quarter last Sunday in Cleveland before pulling out a 30-28 win.

This game appeared to be headed toward a tie until Denver's Montrell Washington muffed JK Scott's punt at the Broncos 32-yard line. It was recovered by Deane Leonard at the 28.

Washington called for a fair catch, but Denver safety P.J. Locke didn't hear Washington and tried to block Ja'Sir Taylor when Locke bumped into Washington.

“I just saw the returner running up, he was kind of relaxed, and then his teammate was just standing there," Taylor said. "At first, if you go back, I paused a little bit, and then it just clicked in my head like, ‘Oh, just throw him onto the returner.’ And it happened, and the ball came out.”

Herbert, who completed 37 of 57 for 238 yards and an interception, passed to Mike Williams for 9 yards on third-and-12 from the Denver 30 to get Hopkins closer.

Russell Wilson was 15 of 28 for 188 yards and a touchdown for the Broncos (2-4), who dropped a game in overtime for the second straight week.

“We felt like we could have won the game, and then we had the fluke play at the end. It didn’t work out, but everybody is together,” Wilson said.

Denver jumped out to a 10-0 lead with scores on the first two drives. Brandon McManus was good from 51 yards midway through the first, and Wilson found a wide-open&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nfl.com/videos/can-t-miss-play-wilson-s-39-yard-loft-to-dulcich-nets-te-s-first-nfl-td">Greg Dulcich for a 39-yard touchdown</a>&nbsp;with 1:49 remaining in the quarter.

Dulcich's TD was the first of his career and the Broncos' first in 87 minutes, 54 seconds.

The Chargers answered on their ensuing possession, putting together a 15-play, 82-yard drive that was capped by&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nfl.com/videos/austin-ekeler-enters-beast-mode-on-bruising-6-yard-td-run">Austin Ekeler's 6-yard run up the middle</a>&nbsp;with his linemen helping him get across the goal line.

Following a Denver three-and-out, Los Angeles evened it at 10 on Hopkins' 37-yard field goal with 53 seconds remaining in the half.

The Broncos were not content to run out the clock though. KJ Hamler hauled in a 47-yard pass to the LA 28. Denver got to the Chargers 9 before McManus was good from 27 yards.

The Chargers tied it on their first drive of the third quarter when Hopkins split the uprights from 31 yards.

The teams traded field goals in the fourth quarter. McManus was good from 48 yards after Baron Browning picked off Herbert. The Chargers answered with Hopkins making it from 35.

“This is very disappointing,” Denver coach Nathaniel Hackett said. “We had some opportunities there, and we’ve got to execute at a higher level. We’ve got to come up with some better plays.”

Herbert had a 26-game TD pass streak snapped. It was the third-best run in franchise history and second-longest active streak in the league.

The teams combined for 19 penalties and a season-high 240 yards. The Broncos were flagged 10 times for 151 yards, the 24th time since 2000 a team has drawn more than 150 penalty yards, according to TruMedia.

The Broncos had four pass interference calls for 87 yards.

Ron Torbert’s crew had been conservative coming into the game. In their four previous contests this season, they averaged 12 flags for 92.8 yards.

Wilson's first nine completions were to nine different players. According to the NFL, he is the first player to complete his first nine attempts of a game to nine different receivers since at least 1991, when play-by-play data was first recorded.

Chargers: RB Joshua Kelley suffered a knee injury in the first quarter and did not return.

Broncos: Hackett said CB Essang Bassey (hamstring) and LB Aaron Patrick (knee) were sidelined during the game.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes expects to score every time he touches the ball.

He expects to win every time he steps on the field.

So when the Chiefs quarterback threw an interception in the final minute Sunday, allowing the Bills to escape with a 24-20 victory over Kansas City, there was a quiet sense of shock inside Arrowhead Stadium — as if Chiefs fans, who had grown so accustomed to winning, couldn't believe Mahomes and Co. had come up short.

“No matter what the situation is, I expect to find a way to win. That's what this whole team expects,” Mahomes said later, after the Kansas City locker room began to clear out. “I always expect to win until there's literally not time.”

Mahomes played well: 338 yards, two touchdown passes and more highlight-worthy plays. But he also threw two picks, the one that effectively ended the game and one early on, when he threw into double coverage in the Buffalo end zone.

On the opposite side, Josh Allen was busy throwing for 329 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. And when the game was on the line, he found Dawson Knox for the decisive TD with just over a minute left.

“You lose a game, especially at home, it's never a good feeling,” said Mahomes, who also scrambled for 21 yards, accounting for nearly a third of the Chiefs' rushing offense. “We played some good football. We just made too many mistakes, at the end of the day. When you make mistakes against another great football team, you lose a football game.”

Indeed, the margin for error for the Chiefs this season is much narrower than years past, when they could rely on Tyreek Hill's speed or the ball-hawking ability of Tyrann Mathieu.

It takes a clean game on both sides of the ball and special teams, and Kansas City has struggled to put those together.

“We made too many mistakes when it was all said and done," Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “It’s good to learn from this. It can benefit you down the road if you handle it right. And this team, I think, will definitely do that.”

The Chiefs, who have leaned on tight end Travis Kelce all season, are finally getting some production from their wide receivers. JuJu Smith-Schuster caught five passes for 113 yards and a touchdown and Mecole Hardman hauled in three for 42 yards and a score. (Kelce still had eight catches for 108 yards.)

“I’m trying to get to that point where the ball’s being thrown and they’re trusting me,” Smith-Schsuter said. “Honestly, it’s just time. It is only our sixth game in."

The roller coaster known as the Kansas City ground game dipped in spectacular fashion Sunday. Clyde Edwards-Helaire managed 33 yards on nine carries, Isiah Pacheco had two carries for 9 yards and Jerick McKinnon two carries for 1 yard. As a team, the Chiefs ran 18 times for 68 yards, or 3.8 per carry.

Nick Bolton led the Chiefs with 13 tackles, including two for a loss. He took over play-calling from the departed Anthony Hitchens this season and has become a rock in the middle of the Kansas City defense.

“That’s the closest thing you can get to a playoff atmosphere in the regular season,” Bolton said. “Guys were stepping up when their number was called. Playing fast and playing confident. Gave us a chance to win a football game at the end.”

Rookie cornerback Joshua Williams, who was pressed into starting with Rashad Fenton sidelined by a hamstring injury, was beaten twice for touchdowns Sunday. He clearly needs more time to develop, and could soon have it. The Chiefs hope to get first-round pick Trent McDuffie, who practiced this week for the first time since leaving the opener with a hamstring injury, back in time for next week's game at San Francisco.

The Chiefs came out of the game without any new injuries.

🏐TMP-Marian wins MCEL championship

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Josh Allen threw for 329 yards and three touchdowns, including the go-ahead toss to Dawson Knox with 1:04 remaining, and the Buffalo Bills beat the Kansas City Chiefs 24-20 on Sunday to exact a small measure of revenge for their epic overtime loss in last year's playoffs.

Stefon Diggs had 10 catches for 148 yards and a touchdown, and Gabe Davis also had a TD catch after torching Kansas City for four of them in January, as the Bills (5-1) finally walked out of Arrowhead Stadium a winner.

Along with last year's divisional loss, the Bills had their season end against Kansas City in the previous AFC title game.

Patrick Mahomes had one last chance to rally the Chiefs (4-2) in the final minute. But after an incomplete pass, Buffalo cornerback Taron Johnson jumped Mahomes' pass to Skyy Moore, picking him off with 51 seconds left to effectively end the game.

Mahomes finished with 338 yards passing to go with two touchdowns and two interceptions, including one in the end zone early in the game. JuJu Smith-Schuster had five catches for 113 yards and a touchdown.

The down-to-the-wire nail-biter was a fitting follow-up to their playoff game, when the teams combined to score 25 points in the final two minutes of regulation, and the Chiefs won the game on the first possession of overtime.

The teams combined to score on their final six possessions that January night, and they picked up Sunday right where they left off — with a caveat. The Bills and Chiefs both marched the length of the field in the first quarter, chewing up defenses that looked downright lost, only to turn the ball over when they reached the red zone.

Then the similarities to their incredible divisional playoff game really began.

Mahomes, improvising once again, stayed alive long enough in a collapsing pocket to find Smith-Schuster for a 42-yard TD reception. And after the Bills blew another red-zone opportunity, when Allen threw incomplete on fourth-and-goal at the Kansas City 3, Buffalo answered with a frantic touchdown drive in the final minute of the half.

Backed up to its own 1-yard line, Allen threw a dart to Davis for a first down. He hit Dawson Knox, Stefon Diggs and Khalil Shakir on his next three throws, then had Davis beat rookie cornerback Joshua Williams for a 34-yard TD catch.

The drive took 73 seconds, covered 96 yards and gave the Bills a 10-7 lead.

And just like January, the Chiefs answered in seconds. Only instead of using 13 to drive within range of Harrison Butker's 49-yard field goal to force overtime, they had 16 seconds to move 27 yards and set up his 62-yarder to knot the game.

The back-and-forth continued in the second half: Buffalo took the lead after Butker's 51-yard miss when Diggs hauled in a long TD catch, then Kansas City drove 83 yards and Mecole Hardman tied the game with his short touchdown reception.

When the Bills failed on another fourth-down attempt, Butker added a 44-yarder to give Kansas City a 20-17 lead.

But unlike January, the Bills made the plays down the stretch. Allen's scrambling, hurdling run on their go-ahead drive got them in position, and his throw to Knox along the sideline gave them the lead. And when Johnson came up with his pick a few minutes later, the Bills had their long-awaited win in Kansas City.

Allen had a career-best 13 straight completions before missing on his first throw of the fourth quarter. ... The Bills' Von Miller had two sacks, giving him 16 in 19 games against Kansas City. ... Chiefs DT Chris Jones, who had a controversial roughing-the-passer penalty last week, tripped Allen for a sack in the fourth quarter. ... Chiefs TE Travis Kelce had eight grabs for 108 yards. He had four TD catches last week against Las Vegas.

Bills: RT Spencer Brown (ankle) was carted off the field midway through the second quarter. CB Dane Jackson left with a stinger in the third. Linebacker Christian Benford left early in the fourth.

Chiefs: CB Rashad Fenton (hamstring) was inactive. CB Jaylen Watson left briefly in the fourth quarter.

The Jennies scored first in the opening minutes of the second half, but the Tigers were able to find the equalizer to stay unbeaten on the season. FHSU moved to 9-0-7 overall, 4-0-5 in the MIAA, while UCM collected their first tie in conference play and moved to 13-1-2 overall, 7-1-1 in the MIAA. The wind played a big factor in this match with only three total shots taken in the first half. The Jennies took all three with the wind at their back as the Tigers struggled to find the attacking side of the field. The Jennies struck first in the second half when a Tiger pass fell short of its mark. Madilyn Hamline intercepted it just in front of keeper&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6693">Isabel Robben</a>&nbsp;out near the top of the box and easily took the ball to the net with no defenders remaining in the 51st&nbsp;minute. ⚽ Tiger women play Jennies to draw in top-25 showdown

EDMOND, Okla. - Fort Hays State raced out to an early 10-0 first quarter lead but Central Oklahoma countered with big second and fourth quarters for a 35-23 victory Saturday afternoon at Chad Richison Stadium.&nbsp;

The Tigers (1-6) have lost four straight for the first time since 2013. UCO (5-2) has won four in-a-row for the first time since 2018.

The Tigers scored on their first possession for only the second time all season. Parky Janky kicked a 32-yard field goal to cap a 10-play, 60-yard drive for the early 3-0 lead.

After a muffed punt which gave the Bronchos the ball at the FHSU nine, Makel Williams intercepted a Stephon Davis pass and returned it to the UCO 34. Three plays later, Manny Ramsey scored on a 30-yard touchdown pass from Jack Dawson to push the lead to 10-0 with 7:11 to play in the first quarter.

UCO answered with 22-straight points, the first 16 of which came in the second quarter. Nicky Quevedo booted a 25-yard field goal to cap a 15-play, 66-yard drive to get the Bronchos on the board early in the second. Following a Tiger punt, Brown hit tight end Oscar Hammond on an 80-yard to tie the game 10-10 with 9:46 left in the half. Nasir Kemper later added a three-yard run which gave UCO a 16-10 halftime lead.

Quevado kicked two field goals in the third quarter to push the UCO lead to 22-10.

FHSU answered with a nine-play, 76-yard drive which ended with Ramsey's second touchdown reception, this time from 24-yard out to pull the Tigers within 22-17 with 2:46 to play in the third.

The Tigers got the ball back after forcing a three-and-out and drove down to the Bronchos 20 but Noah West batted a Dawson pass into the air then intercepted it on the first play of the fourth quarter. UCO would eventually score on a 23-yard touchdown pass from Brown to Madison Ridgeway to go up 28-17.

Following Dawson's third interception of the day, UCO added a 26-yard touchdown pass from Davis to Dominique Dunn.

Adrian Soto would score on a two-yard run with 1:32 left for the final score.

The Tigers had one more first down than UCO but were outgained 496 to 337 in total yards.

Jack Dawson finished 10-of-25 through the air for 107 yards and two touchdowns but was intercepted three times, two of them in the red zone. Leyton Cure had a team-high four catches for 25 yards. Ramsey hauled in three catches for 64 yards and two scores. Adrian Soto led the Tigers in rushing with 89 yards on 22 carries.

Stephon Davis completed 24-of-33 passes for 394 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. Oscar Hammond and Terrill Davis both had five receptions. Hammond had a team-high 148 yards and a score. Nasir Kemper led UCO in rushing with 52 yards on 12 carries.

Fort Hays State is back at home this Saturday at 1 p.m. against Central Missouri who defeated Missouri Southern State 20-17 Saturday for their second win of the season.

The Oklahoma quarterback passed for 403 yards and two touchdowns in his first game back after a concussion, and the Sooners defeated No. 19 Kansas 52-42 on Saturday to end their three-game losing streak.

Gabriel was injured in the second quarter of Oklahoma's loss to TCU on October 1, and the team's offense had sputtered in nearly seven quarters without him heading into the Kansas game. But a week after the Sooners&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/college-football-sports-oklahoma-sooners-texas-longhorns-89268786ad003bc1524a78d02871f931">were held to 195 yards against Texas</a>, Oklahoma (4-3, 1-3 Big 12) exploded for 701 yards against the Jayhawks.

Gabriel had been in concussion protocol, but he passed tests during the week, clearing the way for him to play.

“I’m grateful for every opportunity I step out there because I know this game is aggressive,” he said.

Gabriel also ran 10 times for 37 yards and a touchdown, often sliding well before Kansas defenders had a chance to hit him.

“It's football,” he said. “I'm going to get hit. Just being smart. Trying to protect myself, but also not taking any unnecessary hits.”

Kansas had been one of the nation's darlings so far this season, surprising experts by winning five straight games to start the season and&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/college-football-sports-lawrence-texas-christian-horned-frogs-max-duggan-b972d90f7fa3216ca44e49d3bcb0c59e">pushing TCU before losing 34-27</a>&nbsp;the previous week.

It was Oklahoma’s 18th straight win over Kansas, with all the victories coming by double digits. The Sooners haven’t lost to the Jayhawks since 1997.

“I love seeing our guys in victory formation there at the end,” Venables said. “It was a good, hard fought win, dragging ourselves off the mat and getting back on the saddle.”

Filling in for the injured Jalon Daniels (shoulder), Jason Bean passed for 265 yards and four touchdowns for Kansas. Daniels was hurt in the loss to TCU.

Lawrence Arnold had 113 yards and two touchdowns receiving and Mason Fairchild had 106 yards and caught two touchdown passes for Kansas. The Jayhawks (5-2, 2-2) lost their second straight and missed out on the chance to become bowl eligible for the first time since 2008.

“They came out clicking on all cylinders,” Kansas coach Lance Leipold said. “They played very well, very aggressive. I think we were on our heels most of the day. It was like they were playing downhill.”

“Their backs were to the wall a little bit in this situation, and they came out and played extremely well,” Leipold said. “And we didn’t quite match that. And we've got to find a way if we want to be that type of team, that we can do that.”

able to take advantage of other team’s mistakes and turn them into touchdowns
on defense but Friday night the roles were reversed when the Norton Bluejays scored

The Monarchs (3-4, 3-3 MCL) offense was locked in early, putting
together a 10-play drive that took more than five minutes off the clock and
resulted in a three-yard touchdown run for Kade Harris that put TMP up 7-0
after the Henry Speno extra point.

Freshman quarterback Carson Liles had a big 34-yard run that
set up the early score.

TMP’s defense was able to hold Norton (5-2, 5-0 MCL) to a
three-and-out the Monarchs next drive took up more than four and a half minutes
but resulted in a missed field goal.

Norton was forced to punt on its second drive and had a
turnover on downs on a third first-half drive.

TMP also stalled offensively with a punt and turnover on
downs.

At the end of the first half Norton was driving when Speno
picked off the Norton quarterback Eli Jones ending the Bluejays drive and securing
a 7-0 TMP lead at halftime.

Norton opened the second half with the ball and drove down
the field, thanks to four straight pass completions by Jones including the
final one, a 16-yard pass to Rylan Wildeman but a failed two-point conversion made
it 7-6 TMP.

Jones threw he second touchdown pass of the second half, to
Todd Martin, from 16-yards out after a TMP fumble to give Norton the first lead
early in the fourth quarter at 14-7 after the two-point conversion.

On the ensuing drive TMP got all the way to the Norton eight-yard
line but on fourth down Liles was sacked and Mathew Fawcett returned the fumble
80-yards for the touchdown putting Norton up 20-7.

TMP had an answer though, it took them just two plays to
drive 49 yards and Harris scored his second touchdown of the game giving him 40
career rushing touchdowns. With the extra point TMP trialed 20-13.

Landon Rozean had a 36-yard run that set up the touchdown.

TMP defense forced a three-and-out setting up the Monarchs
at their own 40-yard line with four and a half minutes to play.

Norton committed a pair of roughing the passer penalties,
one on fourth and long and one on third and long but TMP was unable to take advantage
of the field position and turned it over on downs with 17 second left as Norton
held on for the 20-14 win.

Harris finished with 124 yards rushing and Rozean added a
career-high 76 in the loss for TMP.

The Monarchs, who are 0-3 in district play, will host Beloit
in their final district game next Friday.

NORTON – Over the last three years the TMP-Marian Monarchs have been
able to take advantage of other team’s mistakes and turn them into touchdowns
on defense but Friday night the roles were reversed when the Norton Bluejays scored

HAYS - Hays honored their 21 seniors on the roster thirty minutes before kickoff. The Indians had more points than seniors by the end of the first quarter on their way to a 56-12 win over Liberal.

The win secured the outright Western Athletic Conference title. It is the third consecutive season the Indians have won or shared the title. That is a first in program history.

Hays scored on their first six drives of the first half. Malik Bah scored on a ten yard run. Carter Graham threw to Wyatt Kirkpatrick for two points after a botched snap/hold. Kyreese Groen scored on a six yard run and Bryce Salmans from five yards for a 22-0 lead after one quarter.

Bah scored twice more in the second quarter on runs of 26 yards and 20 yards. In between the scoring runs Groen found Johnny Cano on a 23 yard pass. The Indians had the ball at the Liberal one yard line before letting the first half clock run out leading 43-0.

The defense allowed just 66 yards and Liberal did not cross the 50 yard line before halftime. Deondre Broom intercepted a pass and Slade Salmans forced and recovered a fumble in the first half.

The second half opened with a long kickoff return by Trent Summers to set up the Indians at the Liberal 33 yard line. Hays started a continuous clock second half when Carter Graham ran in the first of his two second half touchdowns from 13 yards away and a 50-0 lead.

Liberal scored the first of their two touchdowns on their next touch of the ball when Brooks Kappelmann hit Izzy Rotolo on a 69 yard pass. Graham added his second touchdown of the night on a fourth down run of four yards.
