HAYS - Tyler LaRue homered in his third straight game and drove in four runs as the Hays Larks completed a three-game sweep of the Colorado Springs CageRats with a 7-1 victory Tuesday at Larks Park.
Garrett Gruell got the Larks (18-4, 8-2 RMBL) scoring started with an RBI double in the bottom of the second inning to put Hays up 1-0.
After Damian Ruiz tacked on a second run in the bottom of the third on an RBI groundout, LaRue followed that with a two-run homerun giving the Larks a 4-0 lead.
LaRue added a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth and Gruell drove in his second run of the game two batters later as the Larks took a 7-0 lead.
Colorado Springs got a run back in the top of the sixth on a balk but the Larks bullpen allowed just one base runner in the final three innings on their way to the 7-1 win, their fifth straight.
LaRue was three-for-four with four RBI’s and Gruell finished two-for-four with two RBI’s.
Cade Hare earned the win for the Larks. He allowed three hits in two shutout innings of relief. Six Larks pitchers combined to allow just one run with 10 strikeouts.
The Larks are off until Friday when they host the Colorado Roughriders.
