HAYS – Tyler Larue blasted a three-run homerun in the first inning as the Larks scored five runs over the first two innings Sunday in a 9-4 win over the Colorado Springs CageRats at Larks Park.
The Larks (16-4, 7-2 RMBL) got a pair of runners on in the bottom of the first inning on two hit by pitches and then LaRue hit his team-leading eighth home run putting Hays up 3-0 in the first.
Trent Baker singled home a run in the second and Weston Valasek drove in a run on a groundout putting the Larks up 5-0.
After Colorado Springs scratched a run across in the top of the fourth, Baker led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo homerun, his fifth of the season, putting Hays up 6-1.
John Ceccoli added a sixth inning RBI single making it 7-1 Larks.
LaRue drove in a single run in the bottom of the eighth inning and Garrett Gruell doubled in a run in the inning as well putting Hays up 9-3.
Aaron Calhoun earned the win, striking out 11 and allowed just one unearned run on four hits in five innings.
LaRue was three-for-four with four RBI’s and Baker was two-for-three with two RBI’s and two runs scored.
The Larks host the Cage Rats in game two of the three-game series.
