⚾Larks use four-run 4th to take down Cannons

AUGUSTA – The Hays Larks score in each of the first four innings, including a four-run fourth, on their way to a 7-3 win over the Kansas Cannons Friday night in Augusta.

John Ceccoli got the scoring started in the top of the first for the Larks when he walked with the bases loaded putting Hays (15-4) up 1-0.

Damian Ruiz tripled in a run, with two outs in the second, for a 2-0 Larks lead.

John Ceccoli homered in the third putting Hays up 3-0.

The Larks scratched across four runs in the fourth inning, taking advantage of four walks and a hit by pitch in the inning.

The scoring started when Tyler LaRue walked with the bases loaded. Ruiz followed with a walk of his own for a 5-0 lead.

Garret Gruell topped off the Larks scoring in the fourth inning with a two-run double to put Hays up 7-0.

The Cannon scored a single run bottom of the fourth and a pair of runs in the sixth but the Larks held on for the 7-3 victory.

Colby Langford picked up a win with an inning of scoreless relief.

Starter Jose Velasquez struck out six over four innings but did not factor into the decision. Six different Larks pitchers combined to strikeout 18 on the night.

Larks are off Saturday before beginning a six-game homestand Sunday against Colorado Springs CageRat baseball.
