KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Fort Hays State baseball's Cade Flaherty&nbsp;has been named MIAA Pitcher of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

Flaherty set the tone for the Tiger pitching staff this weekend, opening the series against New Mexico Highlands with a complete game shutout. The junior struck out seven batters in 7.0 scoreless innings of work, allowing just three hits, all singles. He retired the first 10 batters he faced and never faced more than four batters in an inning. Flaherty did not allow a baserunner past second base all day. The Tiger defense aided Flaherty's effort with three double plays in the shutout victory.

Flaherty is the first Tiger to earn a weekly conference award since&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/elliott-herrmann/7763">Elliott Herrmann</a>&nbsp;picked up MIAA Hitter of the Week honors early in the 2023 season. He is the first Tiger pitcher to earn the award since Sammy Sanchez in 2022.The Omaha, Neb. native lowered his season ERA to 0.50 across three starts and 18.0 innings of work, lowest in the MIAA. He has helped the Tigers to a team ERA of 2.88 through three games, second-best in the conference and 12th-lowest in Division II.

HAYS, Kan. - A combined 22 strikeouts compared to just two walks from four Tiger pitchers helped the Fort Hays State baseball team to another doubleheader sweep Sunday afternoon, propelling FHSU to a series sweep against New Mexico Highlands. The Tigers (10-2) pushed their winning streak to nine in a row, while the Cowboys are now 0-12 to start the season.

This is the fastest the Tigers have reached 10 wins since 2006, when they also started the year 10-2.

Rafael Espinoza, Brett Jacobs, Dylan Rinker and Trever Baugh&nbsp;combined to allow just one run across 16.0 innings of work, striking out 22 batters while allowing just nine hits.

Brady Kreutzer&nbsp;drove in three RBI on the day while matching Isaiah Ural and Shaun Gomez&nbsp;with a team-high two hits.

Fort Hays State will enter conference play next weekend (Feb. 23-25) when the Tigers host 14th-ranked Missouri Southern. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. each day at Larks Park.

Game 1: Fort Hays State 6, New Mexico Highlands 0 Tiger starter Rafael Espinoza&nbsp;was nearly unhittable in the opener, giving up just two hits across 6.0 scoreless innings of work. He retired the side in order twice while allowing single baserunners in the other four frames. The righty did not allow a runner to reach third base, while a Cowboy baserunner reached second only once in the game.

With Espinoza dealing on the mound, the Tiger bats managed all the runs they needed in the bottom of the first when Brady Kreutzer&nbsp;led off with a triple to right center. He scored in the next at bat on an RBI groundout from Trey DeGarmo.

The Tigers added two more runs in the second when Shaun Gomez&nbsp;led off with a single. The designated hitter later came in to score on a double to center from Jamison Armstrong&nbsp;before Kreutzer lifted a sacrifice fly to right, stretching the lead to 3-0. Fort Hays State tacked on three unearned runs following a pair of errors in the fourth inning.

Fort Hays State went to the bullpen in&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/brett-jacobs/7787">Brett Jacobs</a>&nbsp;to finish things out, with the freshman completing the shutout by striking out one and allowing one hit in 1.0 scoreless innings of relief.

Espinoza (2-0) struck out eight batters over his 6.0 innings of work, allowing just four baserunners on two hits, one walk and one hit-by-pitch.

Gomez and catcher Luis Ayala&nbsp;both scored two runs in the win, while Gomez was the lone Tiger with multiple hits in the contest.

Game 2: Fort Hays State 6, New Mexico Highlands 1 Game two starter Dylan Rinker&nbsp;took up the challenge of duplicating Espinoza's effort, working 7.0 innings while allowing just one run. New Mexico Highlands took a 1-0 lead in the first after a leadoff walk came in to score on a two-out base hit, but that would prove to be their only run of the day.

Fort Hays State answered right back, plating three runs in the home half of the inning to take the lead for good. Elliott Herrmann&nbsp;led off with a double to left before Kyle Morrell&nbsp;was hit by a pitch. Zane Knox&nbsp;followed with a single to load the bases before Justin Lipka&nbsp;came through with a two-RBI single through the left side. Knox later scored on a passed ball, giving the Tigers a 3-1 advantage.

Rinker worked around a single in the third before escaping a first-and-third jam in the fourth thanks to back-to-back called third strikes. The two strikeouts kicked off a stretch of 11-consecutive batters retired by Rinker, including seven strikeouts. He finished his outing by striking out the side in the seventh.

The Tigers, meanwhile, added a run in the fourth on an RBI single from Kreutzer before the Cowboy pitching staff retired 10-straight Tiger batters from the fourth through seventh innings. A two-RBI double from Morrell stretched the FHSU lead to 6-0 in the eighth.

Trevor Baugh&nbsp;came on to pitch the final two innings for the Tigers, working around a two-out double to get out of the inning before retiring the side in order in the ninth to secure the win.

Rinker (1-0) struck out 11 batters in 7.0 innings of work, allowing one run on five hits and one walk. The 11 strikeouts are the most by a Tiger this season and second-most by an MIAA pitcher in 2024. Baugh earned his first save of the season after striking out a pair and allowing just one hit in 2.0 scoreless innings of relief.&nbsp;&nbsp;

⚾ Tigers sweep Cowboys, run win streak to nine

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Fort Hays State claimed its final regular season road contest by a score of 51-47 over Central Missouri Saturday afternoon at the newly named Jerry Hughes Athletics Center. Up 31-29 at the half, FHSU fought through a very physical second half and sealed the close contest with a late free throw. 

The No. 18 ranked Tigers improved to 20-5 overall and 15-4 in the MIAA with the win. Central Missouri moved to 11-13 overall and 6-12 in the MIAA.

The Tigers looked to be pulling away from the Mules when a 7-0 run took their lead from two to nine points at 18-9 midway through the opening half. The Mules countered with a 10-0 run to take a 19-18 lead about four minutes later. A jumper by Shaun Riley&nbsp;&nbsp;snapped the UCM run with ab9ut five minutes to play in the half and the lead switch back-and-forth before a Riley dunk in the final minute created a 31-29 lead for FHSU at the half.

The second half was an all-out defensive grinder as neither team shot better than 35 percent from the field. UCM opened the half on a 9-2 run to take a five-point lead, but FHSU eventually countered with an 8-0 run to get the lead back by three at 43-40 with 9:50 to play. Elijah Nnanabu&nbsp;triggered the run with a jumper and Shaun Riley&nbsp;followed with a dunk on a broken play. Conner Landell&nbsp;put the Tigers in front with a layup off a nice pass from Bjarni Jonsson&nbsp;inside and Jahiem Holden&nbsp;capped the run with a layup. FHSU held UCM scoreless for 6:46 during the 8-0 run, but UCM eventually got the game tied again with six minutes to play.

Neither team could find points from the 6-minute to 2-minute marks until Nnanabu snapped the game's scoreless drought with a gritty bucket just inside two minutes to play. The Tigers continued to deny the Mules points and then Kaleb Hammeke&nbsp;hit a pair of free throws with about 30 seconds to play extending the lead to four. The Tigers got another stop and Jonsson hit one of two free throws to make the lead five. But UCM hit a tough corner 3-point shot to stay alive. Hammeke hit just one of two free throws, leaving the door open for UCM, but the Mules missed a potential tying 3-point attempt. Nnanabu sealed the game on a free throw with one second remaining.

Nnanabu led the Tigers with 14 points, followed by Riley with 12. Riley had 10 of his 12 in the first half, while Nnanabu scored seven in each half. Nnanabu also lead the Tigers with nine rebounds and three assists.

Keith Kiner III led UCM with 15 points, followed by Tim Jordan Jr. with 14. The Mules were held to their season low in points and it was the 11th&nbsp;time this season FHSU held an opponent under 50, winning all 11 of those occurrences.

Fort Hays State now prepares to play its final three games of the regular season at home. The Tigers host Pittsburg State and Missouri Southern next week.

🏀 No. 18 Tigers grind out road win at Central Missouri

NORTON – The Hoxie Indians had five individual champions and
qualified nine wrestlers for the state championship next week in Salina as the claimed to team title at the 3-2-1A
regional wrestling tournament held Friday and Saturday in Norton.

Phillipsburg qualified the second most with eight wrestlers
and finished third as a team. Norton was second and will send seven to state
next week.

TMP’s Eli Stein earned a fourth-place finish at 165 pounds
and was the lone qualifier for the Monarchs.

Ellis’ Mason Younger is now a four-time state qualifier
after he won the 144 pound weight class this week. He won the state
championship at 126 pounds last season and was second as sophomore at 120
pounds. 

Trego had two individuals qualify for the state tournament
next week. &nbsp;

Ashton Wynn finished second at 120 pounds and Kaiden Bliss
was fourth at 190.

Plainville's Jesse Wilkerson (175 pounds) and Mason Hogan (285) both finished third.

Tate Blackwill of Quinter also earned a regional championship
at 106 pounds.

The Hill City Ringnecks also qualified four for next week’s
state championship tournament, led by Aiden Amrein who finished first at 175
pounds.

Dayton Stephen was second (157), Alexande Hamel finished
third (113) and Slade Rohr (138) was fourth.

The boys 4A and 3-1A state wrestling tournament will be held
in conjunction with the girls 4-1A state tournament at Tony’s Pizza Events
Center in Salina Feb. 22-24.

qualified nine wrestlers for the state championship next week in Salina as the claimed to team title at the 3-2-1A
regional wrestling tournament held Friday and Saturday in Norton.Phillipsburg qualified the second most with eight wrestlers
and finished third as a team. Norton was second and will send seven to state
next week.TMP’s Eli Stein earned a fourth-place finish at 165 pounds
and was the lone qualifier for the Monarchs.Ellis’ Mason Younger is now a four-time state qualifier
after he won the 144 pound weight class this week. He won the state
championship at 126 pounds last season and was second as sophomore at 120
pounds. Trego had two individuals qualify for the state tournament
next week. &nbsp;Ashton Wynn finished second at 120 pounds and Kaiden Bliss
was fourth at 190.Plainville's Jesse Wilkerson (175 pounds) and Mason Hogan (285) both finished third.Tate Blackwill of Quinter also earned a regional championship

🤼 Hoxie wins Norton 3-2-1A regional

HAYS, Kan. - The Fort Hays State baseball team extended its winning streak to seven games after sweeping a doubleheader against New Mexico Highlands Saturday at Larks Park. The Tigers are now 8-2 on the season, their best 10-game start since winning nine of their first 10 to open the 2010 season. The Cowboys dip to 0-10 on the year.

A dazzling start from Cade Flaherty&nbsp;helped the Tigers to a 6-0 win in the opener, while the Tigers had to rally from behind to capture the nightcap, 7-5.

Elliott Herrmann&nbsp;led the Tigers with four hits on the day, including his fourth home run of the year. Zane Knox and Kyle Morrell&nbsp;also left the yard with home runs.

The Tigers and Cowboys will wrap up the series Sunday with another doubleheader beginning at noon.

Game 1: Fort Hays State 6, New Mexico Highlands 0 Flaherty (2-0) set the tone from the start, retiring the first 10 batters he faced, including five strikeouts. The Tigers managed baserunners in each of the first two innings but were unable to score until the third when Morrell and Luis Avala&nbsp;worked back-to-back walks to start the inning.

Trey DeGarmo&nbsp;later stepped up to the plate with two outs and delivered an RBI single to left, plating the first run of the game. Herrmann kept the line moving two batters later with a two-RBI single through the left side, putting FHSU up 3-0.

NMHU managed its first two baserunners in the fourth on a single and a hit-by-pitch, but the Tiger defense got out of the inning with the first of three double plays.

Fort Hays State added an unearned run in the fifth following a double off the bat of Herrmann, giving the home team a 4-0 lead. The Tigers pushed across two more in the sixth when Morrell hit his first home run as a Tiger before Brady Kreutzer&nbsp;crushed a stand-up triple to straightaway center, plating Ayala.

The Cowboys managed a pair of baserunners again in both the sixth and seventh innings, but the Tiger defense came up with inning-ending double plays in both frames to secure the shutout.

Flaherty allowed just six baserunners in a complete-game shutout, striking out seven and allowing three hits and two walks in seven scoreless innings.

Morrell and Herrmann both collected two base hits in the game, while Ayala, DeGarmo and Morrell all scored two runs each.

Game 2: Fort Hays State 7, New Mexico Highlands 5 Fort Hays State again struck first in game two, plating a run in the bottom of the first after DeGarmo worked a one-out walk. The third baseman then swiped second and moved up an additional 90 feet on a wild pitch before scampering home on an RBI groundout from Isiah Ural.

New Mexico Highlands tied things up in the second with a two-out base hit, but the Tigers answered right back in the bottom of the inning when Knox led off with his second home run of the season. FHSU pushed the lead to 3-1 in the third when Herrmann mashed a line-drive rocket over the wall in right center.

After retiring the side in order in the third, Tiger starter Tanner Vaughn&nbsp;issued a leadoff walk in the top of the fourth that eventually came around to score on a groundout. A pair of two-out walks led to a bases-clearing, three-RBI double for the Cowboys in the top of the fifth, handing NMHU its first lead of the day and forcing the Tigers to go to the bullpen.

Spencer Malay&nbsp;was the first man out of the pen for the Tigers, escaping the fifth without further damage before working around a leadoff single in the sixth by striking out the final two batters of the inning.

The Tiger offense took advantage of multiple miscues in the sixth, scoring four runs without recording a hit. Two batters were walked and two more were hit by a pitch, with the first run coming in to score on a wild pitch and the next two crossing the plate on a throwing error following a swinging strikeout, putting the Tigers back up 6-5. Jose Cintron&nbsp;added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly to center, plating Ural.

Maley then allowed a pair of free passes to start the seventh inning, prompting FHSU to bring in Ty Rilet&nbsp;to clean things up. The tall right-hander did just that, forcing a lazy fly ball before striking out the next two batters to get out of the inning.

⚾ Tigers sweep New Mexico Highlands in home opener

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Hunter Dickinson had 20 points and 16 rebounds, and No. 6 Kansas rallied to beat No. 25 Oklahoma 67-57 on Saturday.

Dickinson, a 7-foot-2 center, had 24 points and 14 rebounds in the first matchup between the teams —&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/oklahoma-kansas-big-12-66cd35ec58e7a40736e59c87f26f8a12">a 78-66 win at home on Jan. 13</a>.

Johnny Furphy had 15 points, nine rebounds and three steals for the Jayhawks (20-6, 8-5 Big 12). Kevin McCullar, the leading scorer in the Big 12, returned after missing the previous two games with a knee injury, including a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-texas-tech-basketball-score-44de925dfc8f30e91372e7d06feb93e5">79-50 loss to Texas Tech</a>. He finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Kansas now has won the last seven meetings with Oklahoma.

Jalon Moore had 17 points and Javian McCollum added 15 for the Sooners (18-8, 6-7).

Oklahoma was short-handed — John Hugley IV, a 6-foot-10, 275-pound forward/center, was out with a knee injury, while Rivaldo Soares, a 6-6 guard, was out with a left ankle injury.

Kansas trailed for much of the game but took a 49-46 lead on a 3-pointer by McCullar with about nine minutes remaining. The Jayhawks pushed their lead to 60-50 on a layup by Dajuan Harris and controlled the game from there.

The crowd was energetic from the start. Though the home fans were loud, a significant group of Kansas fans made the trip and were heard from when the Jayhawks made a big play.

A 3-pointer by McCollum gave Oklahoma a 23-16 lead in the first half, and another 3 by McCollum put the Sooners up 28-18. Oklahoma pushed the lead to 11 late in the half. Kansas surged, but Oklahoma still led 34-29 at halftime behind 13 points from Moore.

Oklahoma made just 4 of 22 field goals, including 1 of 11 3-pointers, in the second half.

Kansas: The Jayhawks needed this one after the embarrassing loss to Texas Tech. They locked the Sooners down and outrebounded them 40-29.

Oklahoma: It would have been a great win for the Sooners, but they went cold, as they have at times this season. Their scrappiness and energy couldn't overcome Kansas' talent or their lack of depth.

&nbsp; WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Fort Hays State women's basketball team was unable to overcome a slow start Saturday, losing 79-64 at Central Missouri. The Tigers are now 19-6 overall and 13-6 in conference play, while the Jennies improve to 18-6 on the year and 12-6 in league action.

Olivia Hollenbeck&nbsp;won the opening tip and promptly scored to put the Tigers up 2-0 before things went south for FHSU. The Tigers didn't score again for nearly five minutes, missing five-straight shots and turning the ball over four times. Central Missouri went on a 10-0 run during that span, taking the lead for the rest of the game.

Katie Wagner&nbsp;got the Tigers back on the board by hitting back-to-back buckets while the teams traded baskets over the final five minutes of the frame, with UCM leading 19-11 after 10 minutes of play.Wagner then scored the first six points of the second quarter for FHSU before Sydney Golladay&nbsp;dropped in a layup, helping FHSU close within four midway through the frame, 23-19. Central Missouri bounced back, scoring 10 of the next 12 points to go back up by double figures. Both sides continued to light up the scoreboard in the second quarter, combining to shoot 51.4 percent from the floor in the frame.

Despite trailing by 10 at the break, 41-31, Fort Hays State outscored the Jennies 12-4 to start the third quarter to close within two on a traditional three-point play from Emma Ruddle. Central Missouri answered by scoring the next seven points to push the lead to nine. UCM led by eight entering the final frame, 57-49, before pushing the lead to double figures for the remainder of the contest early in the fourth quarter.

Wagner led all scorers with 22 points while adding a team-high six rebounds. Hollenbeck added 12 points, while Golladay chipped in 10 points and distributed three assists.

The Tigers hit 42.6 percent from the floor (26-of-61), but managed just two 3-pointers (2-of-16, 12.5 percent). Fort Hays State turned the ball over 13 time on the day, compared to eight turnovers from the Jennies.

Fort Hays State will return home for its final three games of the regular season starting Thursday (Feb. 22) when FHSU hosts Pittsburg State beginning at 5:30 p.m.

HAYS, Kan. - The Fort Hays State men's wrestling team dropped its last conference dual of the season Saturday afternoon, losing to the number one ranked Central Oklahoma Bronchos 47-0. The Tigers are now 4-6 overall and 3-2 in conference duals, while the Bronchos improve to 15-0 on the year and 5-0 in league action.

Fort Hays State celebrated senior day, including seniors Rhett Koppes, Jacob Mitchell, Bryce Westmoreland, Juan Urbina and Cody Hicks.&nbsp;Mitchell and Westmoreland competed in an extra match, with Westmoreland winning by major decision.

The Bronchos took the first match, but not without a fight from D'Andre Brown.&nbsp;Brown wasn't able to record a take down, but tallied a couple escapes to notch a close loss of 4-2. The Tigers lost the next four by falls until Cody Hicks, the senior from&nbsp; Bennington, Okla., was able to last the whole three rounds. The Bronchos added a tech fall and a fall in the 174 pound and 184 pound weight classes, until Ryan Patterson&nbsp;was battled in a 10-5 decision against Emmanuel Skillings. UCO finished the night off with another technical fall at 285.

Fort Hays State will now get ready for the NCAA Regionals in Pueblo, Colo., scheduled for March 2. The top three finishers in each weight class at regionals will then advance to Wichita, Kan. for the 2024 NCAA Division II Championships March 15-16.

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. -&nbsp;Hays High qualified seven wrestlers for the 5A State Wrestling tournament held in Park City at Hartman Arena. The state meet will feature both the boys and girls on each of the three days February 22nd through 24th. 

Seven Hays girls qualified last week for the 6-5A State tournament.

Defending state champion senior Harley Zimmerman was the Indians' lone finalist. He won by fall in the championship of 144 pounds to remain undefeated this year at 38-0. He won three of his four matches by pin.

The top eight qualified from each of the two 5A regional tournaments.

Senior Elijah McCullough and sophomore Jonathan Rigler each placed 4th. Junior Dalton Meyers finished in 5th. Senior Tacoma Augustine was sixth, senior Will Linenberger seventh and freshman Camden Luck eighth.

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Micha Peavy scored a career-high 26 points and Jameer Nelson Jr. hit a&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/i/status/1758936661147218130">fadeaway 3-pointer</a>&nbsp;with 1.1 seconds left to lift TCU to a 75-72 win over Kansas State on Saturday.

Nelson was called for a foul as Kansas State (15-10, 5-7 Big 12) was trying to inbound the ball with 15.6 seconds left. That allowed the Wildcats to tie the game on two Cam Carter free throws. Nelson redeemed himself with a heavily contested shot and the Wildcats' length-of-the-court heave bounced off the backboard.

Peavy scored 17 points in the second half for TCU (18-7, 7-5), including 11 in an 20-2 run to take a 10-point lead with seven minutes remaining before the Wildcats worked their way back into the tie on Carter's free throws.

Emanuel Miller, TCU's leading scorer this season, didn't have a first-half point but finished with 10.

Tylor Perry scored 18 of his 24 points in the second half to lead the Wildcats, making all 12 of his free throws, 10 in the second half. David N'Guessan added 12 points and Arthur Kaluma 11. Kansas State outshot TCU at 48% but made just 1 of 15 from the arc with the Horned Frogs doubling up Kansas State on the offensive boards 14-7 for 20 second-chance points.

The Wildcats finished the first half on a 12-5 run for a 28-24 lead.

Teams combined for 59 free throws. TCU was 21 of 30 and Kansas State 25 of 29.

Kansas State is at Texas on Monday. TCU plays at Texas Tech on Tuesday.

Fort Hays State enters the contest on a three-game win streak. The Tigers' most recent win came Thursday night by a score of 60-41 at Lincoln in Jefferson City, Mo. The Tigers held Lincoln to just 26.1 percent shooting from the field overall and 7.1 percent shooting beyond the 3-point arc, both being season lows for an FHSU opponent.&nbsp; FHSU started its current winning streak with home wins over Newman and Central Oklahoma.

Central Missouri snapped a four-game losing string on Thursday night with a win at home over Nebraska-Kearney. It also snapped a two-game slide at home by the Mules. The Mules have a break-even scoring margin, scoring 63.6 points per game while allowing the same amount per game.

Fort Hays State owns a six-game win streak in the series with Central Missouri, which goes back to the 2020-21 season. FHSU has won the last two meetings with UCM in Warrensburg. FHSU allowed less than 60 points to UCM in all six of the games during its current win streak in the series between the teams. The Tigers took the first meeting between the teams this season in Hays by a score of 61-51.

Kaleb Hammeke&nbsp;led the Tigers in scoring on Thursday night at Lincoln with 16. He leads the team in scoring, rebounding, and assists. Hammeke averages 14.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. He led the Tigers in scoring with 17 points in the first meeting with UCM this season.

The Tigers and Jennies are locked in a tight battle atop the MIAA standings, with six teams separated by three games in the loss column with three weeks left to play in the regular season. Fort Hays State is currently in third place, two games back of league-leading Missouri Western, while Central Missouri sits in sixth, 3.5 games back.

Fort Hays State fell behind by as many as 17 in the fourth quarter of the first meeting between these teams this season (1/4/24) before rallying within two possessions with three minutes to play. Central Missouri regained control down the stretch, ultimately winning by seven, 72-65. Katie Wagner&nbsp;led the Tigers with 24 points and 16 rebounds in that game, her second-straight game with at least 20 points against the Jennies.

Wagner has scored in double figures seven times in eight tries against the Jennies, averaging 15.8 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists in those games. Kate Dilsaver&nbsp;matched her season-high in numerous categories Thursday, totaling 13 points, five rebounds and three assists in a win over Lincoln. She's scored in double figures twice over the last five games after doing so just once across the first 19 games of the year.

Central Missouri leads the all-time series, 23-17, including wins in each of the last four meetings. Fort Hays State's last win came almost exactly two years ago in Warrensburg (60-54, 2/19/22). The men's 60m dash was a lightning-fast affair, with Eddie
McVay narrowly missing the podium crossing the line in 6.91 seconds but
achieving a personal best in the process. Toby Wahlmeier followed closely
behind in 6.95, also notching a personal best. Kenny Fritsch blazed through the
track in 7.01, securing the eighth spot and a personal best, while Carter
Cellmer and Chason VanDerWege gave it their all, finishing in 7.16 and 7.23. In
the women's 60m dash, Tori Poe surged forward with power and grace, claiming
fifth place in 7.87, her fastest time of the season. Jayme Hagerman showcased
her speed, crossing the line in 8.14 seconds, securing the sixth spot and a
personal best. Nolan Churchman dominated the men's 60m hurdles, storming to
victory in 8.72, leaving his competitors in his wake. Taylor Savolt led the

best. In the women's 200m, Tori Poe powered her way to seventh place in 25.42,
the best time of season on the team. Kinley Brown and Taylor Savolt followed
closely behind in 25.90 and 25.99.

Hayden Albright continued his dominance in the men's 400m,
claiming first place in a blistering time of 47.47 and marked his name in the
history books yet again for breaking the school record. Nolan Churchman
showcased his speed once again, securing third place in 48.00, the second
fastest 400m time of the year on the team and secured himself a spot in
nationals. Nakari Morrical-Palmer, Maayan Paz, and Cole Darling displayed their
strength and determination, finishing in 51.04, 51.05, and 52.08.

Reba Mader led the charge in the women's 400m, securing
second place in 56.31, a new school record that's also good for a trip to
nationals. She was third in the books with a performance earlier this year, but
puts her name atop the list with this performance. Taylor Savolt and Kinley
Brown followed closely behind in 57.66 and 57.90.

Ellie Dusselier, Hadley Williams, and Kylin Rudzik battled
it out in the women's 600y, securing fourth, fifth, and seventh place, in times
of 1:37.19, 1:38.87, and 1:41.62. Emery Wolfe and Andrew Waller showcased their
talent and determination in the men's 800m, securing fifth and ninth place,
respectively, in times of 1:58.49 and 2:03.75. In the men's 1 mile, Emery
Wolfe, Daniel Bechle, and Noah Morenz pushed themselves to the limit, claiming
fifth, sixth and eighth place in times of 4:23.55, 4:24.12 and 4:27.16 while
all breaking their previous personal best marks.

Carsyn Turpin led the pack in the men's 3,000m, securing
first place with a personal best time of 8:56.27, with Daniel Bechle and Noah
Morenz following closely behind in second and third place in times of 8:58.56
and 9:00.49.

In the field events, Keamonie Archie soared to victory in
the men's long jump, claiming first place with a leap of 23-6.75 feet and a
provisional mark. Jace Wentling, Chason VanDerWege, Carter Cellmer, Noah
McGregor, and Eddie McVay showcased their athleticism, securing sixth, seventh,
ninth, tenth, and twelfth place with jumps ranging from 20-3.0 to 21-9.5 feet.

Annabeth Baalmann showcased her talent in the women's pole
vault yet again, securing third place in DI competition with a height of
13-0.75 feet. This performance broke the school record that was previously set
by Baalmann two weeks ago in Topeka, Kan. Jacob Clark, Brady Deges, Kurtis
McCormick, and Nolan Churchman displayed their skill in the men's pole vault,
securing seventh, eighth, thirteenth, and fifteenth place for vaulting heights
ranging from 14-4.5 to 15-10.25 feet.

In the women's shot put, Liberty Booker, Kieran Burke,
Kennedy Spaeth, Rhyann Brown, and Addie Berens displayed their strength and
skill, securing fifth, sixth, eighth, ninth, and tenth place, respectively,
with throws ranging from 31-2.75 to 42-2.2 feet. In the women's weight throw,
Liberty Booker, Patrisha Doll, Kieran Burke, and Kennedy Spaeth showcased their
power and technique, securing fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh place,
respectively, with throws ranging from 39-2.0 to 50-10.0 feet.

The Kansas Wesleyan basketball teams will return to Salina on Saturday night in search of big bounce-back wins over the Moundbuilders of SouthwesternWBB: Kansas Wesleyan (13-11, 11-7) vs. SW College (0-23, 0-19)It has been all KWU of late against Southwestern, the Coyotes winning the last 11 games. They defeated the Moundbuilders 81-68 in the first meeting January 3 in Winfield and have a 24-17 lead in the series since January 2006.The Moundbuilders entered the week seeking their first victory of the season. They lost to Bethel 81-54 Saturday in North Newton and 85-72 to Oklahoma&nbsp;Wesleyan&nbsp;last Wednesday in Winfield.Southwestern averages 57 points and allows 79. The Moundbuilders are shooting 32 percent overall, 25.7 percent from long distance, are being outrebounded by 8.1 per game and average 20 turnovers. Senior forward Christy Wiebe leads the team in scoring (11.2 points) and rebounding (8.7). Freshman guard Kennedy Ford is next on the scoring list (9.4). Sophomore guard Macey Pond had 18 points in the first game against KWU.MBB: Kansas Wesleyan (17-7, 14-4) vs. #9 SW College (21-3, 16-3)KWU has won three in a row and nine of the last 10 against Saint Mary including a 71-64 victory December 9 inside Mabee Arena. The Coyotes are 6-11 in the Ryan Center since December, 2005 but have a 19-17 overall advantage during that time.The ninth-ranked Moundbuilders defeated Bethel 97-89 Saturday in North Newton, rebounding from a 70-68 homecourt loss to No. 4 Oklahoma&nbsp;Wesleyan&nbsp;last Wednesday. Southwestern had won eight in a row prior to the OKWU setback.Cevin Clark had 22 points, Mason Thiessen 21, and Jarvin Jennings 19 in the first game against KWU. Southwestern trailed 57-46 at halftime but made it close the second half.Clark, a senior guard, leads the NAIA in scoring with a 27.1 average while shooting 48.4 percent from the field, 37.4 percent from long distance, and 85.4 percent from the foul line. He scored 19 against OKWU, 29 against Bethel and has tallied 30 or more seven times this season. Junior guard Justin DeMaria averages 12.5 points and junior guard Andrew O'Brien 10.4.
