for a two-day total of 170 and placed eighth at the 3-2-1 girls’ state golf tournament
at the Salina Municipal Golf Course. 

The Monarchs had three individuals advance to day two. Enna Wasinger, who shot a 96 Monday, finished with a 94 in the
final round and placed 33rd with a 190. Paige
Koeningsman finished the final day with a 111 and finished in 49th place with
a two-round total of 205.

Goodland’s Allison Cure won the individual title with
rounds of 73 and 77 to edge St. Mary’s Colgan’s Danielle Yaghmour by one stroke.
Goodland won the team title with a 345, five shots better than Jefferson West.

⛳ HHS wraps up day two at 5A state golf

MONKEY ISLAND, Okla. – Fort Hays State Men's Golf placed seventh among MIAA teams at the second conference mandated event of the 2025-26 season, the MSSU Fall Invitational held at Shangri La Resort October 20-21. FHSU was 10th overall out of the 18 total teams in the field, which included seven teams outside of the conference. Cooper Scheck tied for the 10th-best finish among MIAA individuals in the field and was 12th overall.

Scoring was tough in the first round with windswept conditions. The Tigers shot 26-over par (314) as a team in the first round, but drastically improved that down to a 6-over 294 in the second round. FHSU posted a 12-over par team score of 300 in the final round. FHSU finished at 44-over par for the tournament. Central Oklahoma ran away with the team title at 10-under par overall as a team, 33 strokes better than Washburn at 23-over par overall.

Central Oklahoma had three of the top five finishers individually, including champion Baylor Bostick, who shot 4-under par overall. Teammate Bryant Polhill was a shot back at 3-under, while Nicholas Canales tied for fifth at 2-over par.

Scheck finished at 5-over par overall, remaining even over his final 36 holes after an opening round 77 (+5). He shot a 2-under par 70 in the second round and then a 2-over par 74 in the final round. He carded 10 birdies throughout the tournament and half of those were in the second round.

Chutithep Rungpajchim was the second-best finisher for FHSU, staying in the top 25 at 24th individually. He shot 9-over par overall. He had a big week on par 5s, shooting 6-under par on that type of hole. He eagled the par-5 16th in the first round and eagled the par-5 18th in the final round. He matched Scheck in birdie count with 10. He also shot a first-round 77 (+5), then backed that with rounds of 73 (+1) and 75 (+3).

Colby Hays placed 50th as an individual at 15-over par overall. He shot rounds of 79, 76, and 76 while posting six birdies (two in each round). Jordan McCaslin was right on his heels at 16-over par overall, tying for 60th. He carded rounds of 82, 75, and 75 and had eight birdies in the tournament, including five in the second round. Isaak Bowman also competed for FHSU and shot +30 overall. He had rounds of 81, 81, and 84 and had a pair of birdies for the tournament.

FHSU wraps up its fall portion of the 2025-26 schedule next week at the Tulsa Cup. The tournament will take place at The Club at Indian Springs, October 27-28.

⛳ FHSU men seventh among MIAA teams, Scheck Top 10 among MIAA individuals at MSSU Fall Invite

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Fort Hays State elevated another notch to No. 5 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll released on Tuesday. The Tigers are in the top five of the poll for just the third time in program history. FHSU was No. 4 in the final poll of 2018 and then No. 3 in the preseason poll of 2019, which are the two highest marks in the poll for the program.

Fort Hays State remains unbeaten through 13 matches this season with a record of 11-0-2 overall. They are 7-0 so far in GAC play and have five matches remaining in the season, all in conference play. Fort Hays State plays host to Southern Nazarene and Rogers State this week in Hays.

This is the longest unbeaten streak to start a season in program history and 13 matches ties the second-longest unbeaten streak in program history at any point of a season. Last year's team had a 13-match unbeaten run from September 25-November 22, 2024. The program record is 16, set by the 2018 team that made the national semifinals.

Fort Hays State is also riding a 10-match win streak going back to September 14. It is just the second time in program history the Tigers have reached a win streak of double figures, second only to a 14-match win streak by the 2018 squad.

Fort Hays State and Rogers State continue as the two teams from the GAC represented in the Top 25. The Hillcats are No. 17 in the latest poll with an overall record of 9-1-3. Rogers State's only loss this year was to Fort Hays State. Northeastern State is among the receiving votes section of the latest poll.

Fort Hays State is one of six teams in the top 10 this week that remain unbeaten for the season. FHSU and No. 1 ranked Cal State-Stanislaus are tied for the national lead in wins, both with 11. There are eight total teams in the top 25 without a loss this season.

Aside from wins, Fort Hays State is also the national leader in total goals (41), total assists (42), total points (124), goal differential (+35), assists per match (3.23), corner kicks per match (8.08), and points per match (9.54).

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Fort Hays State Women's Golf finished 19th at the MWSU Holiday Inn Invitational at the St. Joseph Country Club. Jaycee Oakley and Hayden York both led the way for the Tigers individually with two-round totals of 176. As a team, the Tigers had a score of 712 over two rounds.

The Tigers all had similar opening rounds. Their top finishers, Jaycee Oakley and Kiley Maier, shot 89. Hayden York was one back with a 90 and Abbie Norris shot 91. Maier did not compete on day two. York had the best round of any Tiger in the second round with an 86. Oakley was right behind with an 87 to tie York overall in 90th place. Norris shot 91 for the second-straight day and Alexis Elliott backed up a first-round 93 with an 89.

Southwestern Oklahoma State won the event as a team, shooting a two-round total of 616 . Maria Velilla of Southwestern Oklahoma was the individual champion, who shot 4-over par overall with a two-round total of 148.

Fort Hays State will wrap up its fall schedule at the Tulsa Cup next week in Broken Arrow, Okla., Oct. 27-28.

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Bastian Carlman and Oliver Wright of Fort Hays State were named two of the four Players of the Week by the Great American Conference on Tuesday for their performance in a pair of wins for Fort Hays State last week. Wright shared the Defender of the Week honor this week after earning the honor alone last week, while Carlman earned the Offensive Player of the Week for the first time this year.

Carlman netted three goals last week for a total of six points, helping FHSU remain unbeaten for the season now at 11-0-2 overall and 7-0-0 in the GAC. He had the second and third goals of the 4-0 win over Newman at home. He then had what turned into the game winner at Northeastern State, the third goal for FHSU of a 3-2 win. Carlman has a three-match streak of scoring goals and ranks second on the team in goals with six overall.

Wright continued his recent offensive surge while starting a pair of matches on FHSU's defensive back line. He scored the first two goals of the 3-2 win for Fort Hays State at Northeastern State. Both of his goals were on headers inside the box off throw-ins from Joseph Street. The pair has connected on the same type of play five times within the last two weeks, accounting for all of Wright's five goals for this season.

Carlman (Offensive Player of the Week) and Wright (Co-Defender of the Week) joined Baptiste Auvray of Southern Nazarene (Co-Defender of the Week) and Isaac Murie of Ouachita Baptist (Goalkeeper of the Week) as the weekly honorees from the conference office.

⚽ FHSU's Carlman and Wright named GAC Men's Soccer Players of the Week

Kpreps has released the latest high school football rankings heading into week eight games.

Hays High dropped two spots following their home loss to Great Bend and are now ranked fifth in Class 5A. The Panthers remained second.

Smith Center held on to the No. 5 spot in Class 1A.

Trego stayed second in 8-Man Division 1 but Victoria dropped a spot to No. 3 in 8-Man Division 2 where Hanover is the new No. 1 after ending Axtell's 58-game win streak. Axtell is now No. 2. Victoria hosts Hodgeman County Friday who is ranked fourth.

TMP-Marian and Plainville continue to be in the others considered category in Class 1A. The Cardinals host the Monarchs Friday. Hill City is in the same category in 8-Man I.

🏈 Kpreps rankings ahead of Week 8

MANHEIM, Pa. – Fort Hays State will open the historic first NCAA championship season of women's wrestling ranked No. 7 nationally in the NWCA Top 25. The Tigers have four individuals ranked among the top 10 in their respective classes entering the 2025-26 season.

This is the highest NWCA team ranking for the Fort Hays State women in the young history of the program. Last year, the Tigers reached No. 20 in the nation as a team in the NWCA rankings, but that set of rankings included all 4-year institutions (NCAA Divisions I, II, and III and NAIA). This will be the first year the NCAA schools have their own set of rankings with women's wrestling becoming an NCAA Championship sport.

Fort Hays State has four individuals listed in the preseason rankings of their respective classes. Nichole Moore is No. 6 at 138, Dylen Ritchey is No. 8 at 145, Isabella Renfro is No. 5 at 180, and Hailey Conley is No. 8 at 207.

Moore and Renfro were just one step shy of All-America honors at the NCWWC Championships last year reaching the consolation fourth round. Moore was the only Tiger to break the 30-win plateau last year, finishing with a record of 31-12. Renfro was just shy of 30 wins, finishing with a record of 29-10.

Ritchey and Conley were also national championship qualifiers last year and both won two matches at the event. Ritchey finished with a record of 20-14, while Conley went 19-17 for the season. Later in the spring following the 2024-25 regular season, Ritchey went on to earn All-America status in the U20 class at the USMC Championships/World Team Trials at 65 kg.

Fort Hays State has six individuals among the regional rankings for Region 6 in the NCAA. There are six different regions that will determine qualifiers for the first-ever NCAA Championships for the sport in the spring of 2026. Joining the four individuals mentioned above in the region rankings are Isabell Ortiz (110) and newcomer Samara Markwardt (131).

HAYS - The TMP-Marian volleyball team&nbsp; went 3-0 at their own 2A regional played at the new Hays High School Monday and advanced to Saturday's 2A Sub-State Tournament.&nbsp;

The Monarchs defeated Plainville (25-22, 25-13), Ell-Saline (25-19, 25-16) and Syracuse (25-12, 25-17) and are now 26-13 on the season.

Plainville finished 2-1 to also advance to Sub-State. The Cardinals defeated Syracuse (13-25, 25.22, 25-14,) and Ell-Saline (25-19, 25-22). The Cardinals are now 15-18 on the season.

Neither the Hays High or TMP-Marian girls' golf teams advanced out of day one competition at their respective state golf tournaments, however both have individuals moving on to Tuesday's final round.

The top six teams plus the next 18 individual golfers not on one of those teams, plus ties, qualify for day two.&nbsp;

Hays High's Ava Erbert and Kinley Pfannenstiel both advance at 5A in Emporia. Erbert shot a 23-over par, 94 and was tied for 28th place. Kinley Pfannenstiel shot a 98 and was tied for 38th.

TMP-Marian has three individuals who advanced at 3-2-1A in Salina. The Monarchs are led by Brynn Schoepf who was in fifth place after an 11-over par, 81 and sits eight back of&nbsp; Goodland's Allison Cure who was the clubhouse leader after day one with a 73. The Monarchs Paige Koeningsman shot a 94 and was part of a five-way tie for 30th. Emma Wasinger fired a 96 and was part of a six-way tie for 39th.

The Monarchs were tied for seventh in the team standings after day one and missed qualifying as a team by five strokes.

DENVER (AP) — Once the bungling, bumbling Denver Broncos finally got going, they couldn't be stopped.

Shut out for three quarters, the Broncos rallied with 33 points in the fourth in one of the most stunning turnarounds in NFL history.

Wil Lutz kicked a 39-yard field goal as time expired, lifting Denver to a thrilling 33-32 win Sunday over the stunned New York Giants, who watched the Broncos score on their last five drives.

“I lost hope, I ain’t gonna lie. I lost hope," star cornerback Patrick Surtain said.

“It was one of them games where we felt like we didn’t execute. Going to film room, there’s a lot of corrections. But one thing we didn’t lose was composure,” Surtain added. "We fought to the end. In this league, no matter how much you're down, there’s always a will, and there’s always a way."

The Broncos' 33 fourth-quarter points were the most in NFL history by any team that was shut out for the first three quarters and quarterback Bo Nix became the first player ever to run for two scores and throw for two touchdowns in a fourth quarter.

The Broncos’ improbable comeback snapped a streak in which NFL teams had won 1,602 consecutive games when leading by 18 points in the final 6 minutes of a game.

“I don't even know how we scored 33 points in a quarter,” Nix admitted. “That's kind of insane.”

“You win a game like that, it's the best thing ever.”

The Giants were in disbelief after losing leads of 19-0 and 26-8.

“This is going to haunt us for a long time,” said Giants tight end Daniel Bellinger.

“Tough loss," Giants coach Brian Daboll said. "Put their heart and soul into it. Not a lot of talking that needs to be done when you lose a game like that. Everybody gave everything they had.”

When the Broncos (5-2) trailed 26-8 with 6:38 remaining in the game and were facing fourth-and-3, their win probability was less than 1%, according to Next Gen Stats.

The Broncos, though, scored on a 7-yard Nix scamper, R.J. Harvey's 2-yard catch after Justin Strnad's interception, an 18-yard keeper by Nix and Lutz's game-winner after Jaxson Dart seemingly broke the Broncos' hearts with a 1-yard TD with 37 seconds left that gave New York a 32-30 lead.

Jude McAtamney missed his second extra point of the afternoon, however, and after Tyler Badie returned the kickoff 19 yards to the 23, Nix found Marvin Mims for 29 yards and Courtland Sutton for 22.

With no timeouts remaining, the Broncos raced to the line of scrimmage at the Giants 21 and Nix spiked the ball with 2 seconds left.

The snap was high but Lutz nailed the field goal to secure Denver's fourth consecutive win overall and NFL-best eighth straight at home.

“I was proud we fought to get back in it,” Broncos coach Sean Payton said. “It's like we had to find a way to clean up our mess.”

The Broncos took a 30-26 lead on Nix's 18-yard scamper with 1:51 left. But the Giants (2-5) appeared to dodge the defeat when Denver cornerback Riley Moss was whistled for pass interference on an incompletion to Beaux Collins near the goal line. Payton ran out onto the field to argue the call and was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct. That put the ball at the 1 and Dart took it from there.

“That was silly,” Payton said of his penalty. “I just wanted them to hear me. Can’t do that.”

The Broncos were actually in danger of getting shut out at home for the first time in their 66-year history when they were blanked for three quarters. Denver’s managed 111 yards on its first eight possessions and got 295 yards on its final five drives.

The Broncos' 33-point quarter was the second-highest in NFL history, behind only a 34-point performance by Detroit in a 37-27 win over Chicago on Sept. 30, 2007.

R.J. Harvey's 2-yard TD catch that got Denver on the scoreboard, came on a deflected pass, but on the ensuing drive, on third-and-17 from the Denver 41, the Giants got their own ricocheted touchdown when tight end Theo Johnson hauled in Dart's pass after it went off wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson's hands.

The Broncos' historic comeback came on a day the franchise honored the late Demaryius Thomas, who died at age 33, by inducting him into the team's ring of fame on day they also celebrated the 10th anniversary of their Super Bowl 50 team.

By the halftime ceremony, the Giants had taken a 13-0 lead on Dart’s 44-yard touchdown pass to Bellinger and his 13-yard strike to Cam Scattebo for the rookie running back's first career TD grab.

Linebacker Dre Greenlaw made his debut for Denver after spending the first six weeks of the season sidelined by a quadriceps injury. He had six tackles.

Giants: S Jevon Holland left with a knee injury in the first half and didn't return. ... CB Paulson Adebo went out with an unspecified injury in the third quarter.

Broncos: RT Mike McGlinchey got hurt with 4:42 remaining and walked off the field but returned, saying, “I certainly wasn’t going to miss out on the fun. I was a part of three and a-half quarters of (bad) football, so I might as well get in for the good ones.”

Giants: Visit the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

Broncos: host the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

I lost hope," star cornerback Patrick Surtain said.“It was one of them games where we felt like we didn’t execute. Going to film room, there’s a lot of corrections. But one thing we didn’t lose was composure,” Surtain added. "We fought to the end. In this league, no matter how much you're down, there’s always a will, and there’s always a way."At least now there is.The Broncos' 33 fourth-quarter points were the most in NFL history by any team that was shut out for the first three quarters and quarterback Bo Nix became the first player ever to run for two scores and throw for two touchdowns in a fourth quarter.The Broncos’ improbable comeback snapped a streak in which NFL teams had won 1,602 consecutive games when leading by 18 points in the final 6 minutes of a game.“I don't even know how we scored 33 points in a quarter,” Nix admitted. “That's kind of insane.”“You win a game like that, it's the best thing ever.”The Giants were in disbelief after losing leads of 19-0 and 26-8.“This is going to haunt us for a long time,” said Giants tight end Daniel Bellinger.“Tough loss," Giants coach Brian Daboll said. "Put their heart and soul into it. Not a lot of talking that needs to be done when you lose a game like that. Harvey's 2-yard TD catch that got Denver on the scoreboard, came on a deflected pass, but on the ensuing drive, on third-and-17 from the Denver 41, the Giants got their own ricocheted touchdown when tight end Theo Johnson hauled in Dart's pass after it went off wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson's hands.<h2>Honoring Thomas</h2>The Broncos' historic comeback came on a day the franchise honored the late Demaryius Thomas, who died at age 33, by inducting him into the team's ring of fame on day they also celebrated the 10th anniversary of their Super Bowl 50 team.By the halftime ceremony, the Giants had taken a 13-0 lead on Dart’s 44-yard touchdown pass to Bellinger and his 13-yard strike to Cam Scattebo for the rookie running back's first career TD grab.<h2>Greenlaw's Denver debut</h2>Linebacker Dre Greenlaw made his debut for Denver after spending the first six weeks of the season sidelined by a quadriceps injury. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs so thoroughly dominated the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday that they probably didn't need Rashee Rice, who had come back from a torn ACL and a six-game suspension to give them yet another dynamic weapon.

The rest of the season? Well, the Chiefs think Rice may be the last piece they need to chase another championship.

“We have a lot of weapons. We have a lot of guys and they all love each other, and they want each other to succeed,” said quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who threw for 286 yards and three touchdowns — two of them to Rice — in a 31-0 victory so lopsided that the two-time league MVP got to spend the entire fourth quarter watching it from the bench.

“We want to be better than what we are now,” Mahomes said, “but this was a good step in the right direction.”

Rice finished with seven catches for 42 yards in his first game&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-city-chiefs-rashee-rice-9475202aa5efade7b9a9be140e2c798c">since Week 4 last season,</a>&nbsp;when he tore up his knee in a collision with Mahomes. Rice made it back from the injury in time to participate in the offseason and training camp, then was suspended before the start of the season for his role in a high-speed car crash on a Dallas highway in March 2024.

Rice's return sparked an offense that scored on its first five possessions against Las Vegas and finished with 434 yards in all.

“I think it's a glimpse of what's possible,” Rice said, “and what's to come.”

It didn't help ailing Las Vegas to play most of the game&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/las-vegas-raiders-kansas-city-chiefs-36d67adf45a07ee045b9e377dae23b07">without star pass rusher Maxx Crosby</a>, who left late in the first half with a knee injury. The Raiders also lost defensive tackle Adam Butler to a back injury during the game.

The Chiefs (4-3) were nearly as good on defense, though, holding the Raiders to three first downs and 96 yards while beating them for the 10th time in the last 11 matchups. Geno Smith finished 10 of 16 for 67 yards, while Ashton Jeanty, one of the NFL's top rookies, carried just six times for 21 yards.

It was the fourth and most lopsided shutout by Kansas City in its 133-game history against the Raiders.

“This was a game I didn't see coming,” Raiders coach Pete Carroll said. “We prepared really well. We were tuned in. I couldn't imagine the guys that weren't able to play in this game would have been that much of a factor.”

In truth, the Chiefs had started to hum the past couple of weeks, including in&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-city-chiefs-analysis-5ebcfaffabfb346389fc4fe5bd53e019">a 30-17 rout of the Lions</a>&nbsp;last week. And with Rice, it looked like the high-flying attack that Mahomes made famous with Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill so many years ago.

Rice had a pair of catches on their opening drive, including a 2-yard touchdown reception to finish off the 92-yard march. He had two more on the next drive, an 84-yard trek that Marquise Brown finished with a TD catch. And Rice capped the Chiefs' big first half with a 3-yard touchdown reception with 10 seconds left to make it 21-0 at the break.

“I think you saw the trust that Pat has in him,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid. “The energy he brings is infectious.”

The lopsided nature of the first half was staggering.

The Chiefs had a 21-2 advantage in first downs. They had a 275-51 edge in yards, and that includes six meaningless yards that Jeanty gained on the final run of the half. And the Chiefs became the first team since at least 2000 to start a game with three TD drives of at least 80 yards, allowing them to consume nearly 21 minutes of the first half.

Oh, and the Chiefs got to receive the second-half kickoff.

They proceeded to march 65 yards for another touchdown, this time with Isiah Pacheco doing the honors on the ground to finish it off. And after another three-and-out by the Raiders, a 66-yard march produced a field goal that made it 31-0.

Mahomes and several starters took a seat by the end of the third quarter, allowing Gardner Minshew to finish the rout.

“Very seldom do you have a fourth quarter where you don't throw the ball. It doesn't happen very often,” Reid said.

The only question remaining was whether the Raiders would make it back across midfield again. They made it for two offensive plays on the first drive of the game, when a holding call on Jackson Powers-Johnson led to them eventually punting.

“They're a terrific team,” Carroll said. “They did everything like they do. And the played really well in all phases, and they kept us totally at bay. We couldn't make a first down and couldn't get off the field. They just did like they do.”

Las Vegas: WR Jakobi Meyers (knee) and TE Brock Bowers (knee) were inactive. Crosby and Butler only added to the problems.

Kansas City: LT Josh Simmons was inactive due to personal reasons. LG Trey Smith left with a back injury, DT Omar-Norman Lott hurt his knee and RT Jawaan Taylor banged up his shoulder.

The Raiders are off next week before facing Jacksonville on Nov. 2.

The Chiefs play Washington next Monday night.

She had to save three shots after halftime to keep the Tigers within a goal.

Fort Hays State doubled its first half shot count in the second half, firing six attempts after halftime, but all were denied by Byrd. The Griffons led the shot count for the match 14-9. Sydney Cotter and Taylor Hill both put two shots on goal.

MARYVILLE, Mo. – Northwest Missouri State remained rushed for a season-high 437 yards and remained unbeaten in MIAA play with a 52-3 rout of Fort Hays State Saturday afternoon at Bearcat Stadium. The 19th-ranked Bearcats (6-1, 5-0 MIAA) scored touchdowns on three of their first four possessions as they won their sixth-straight.&nbsp;

It's the first time the Tigers have been held without a touchdown since September 19, 2018 in a 15-0 win over Central Oklahoma.

The Bearcats scored six of their seven touchdowns in the ground with three of them on plays 50 or more yards. Quarterback Zechariah Owens scored on touchdown runs of 56 and 73 yards and running back Quincy Torry added one from 85 yards out. Owens finished with 164 rushing yards on eight carries, while Torry had 114 yards on eight carries.

Fort Hays State's (4-4, 3-3 MIAA) lone score came on a 39-yard Zane Hall field goal on their second possession. The Bearcats scored the final 10 points of the first half and led 24-3 at halftime then scored touchdowns on their first four possessions of the second half.

FHSU was held to just 131 total yards for the day. Caleb Heavner threw for 63 yards, while Curtis Douglas rushed for 27. Ryan Allen had 24 receiving yards. Michael Chavez led the Tiger defense with 10 tackles.

Fort Hays State will be on the road again next week at Washburn. Kickoff in Topeka is set for 1 p.m. at Yager Stadium on October 25. The Ichabods snapped a five-game losing streak with a 37-17 home win over Central Missouri Saturday.
