KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Right-handed pitcher&nbsp;Seth Lugo&nbsp;and shortstop&nbsp;Bobby Witt Jr.&nbsp;were named winners of 2024 American League&nbsp;Rawlings&nbsp;Gold Glove Awards for the first time in their careers,&nbsp;Rawlings&nbsp;Sporting Goods Inc. announced tonight. The&nbsp;Rawlings&nbsp;Gold Glove Awards honor the best individual fielding performances at each position in the American League and National League. Winners were chosen by a combination of votes from MLB managers and coaches, and the SABR Defensive Index.

They are the 16th and 17th Royals, respectively, to win the award. The Royals now have 22&nbsp;Rawlings&nbsp;Gold Gloves over the last 14 seasons since 2011, the most in the Majors during that time.

Lugo is the second Royals pitcher to win the award, joining Royals Hall of Famer&nbsp;Bret Saberhagen&nbsp;(1989). Witt Jr. is the second shortstop in franchise history to earn the honor, joining&nbsp;Alcides Escobar&nbsp;(2015). Witt Jr., who played in his age-24 season, became the 3rd-youngest Royal to win the Award, only older than&nbsp;Eric Hosmer&nbsp;and&nbsp;Salvador&nbsp;Perez, who both won their first Gold Glove Awards at age 23 in 2013. Lugo and Witt Jr. are the first Royals to win a Gold Glove Award since outfielders&nbsp;Andrew Benintendi&nbsp;and&nbsp;Michael A. Taylor&nbsp;in 2021.

Lugo, who turns 35 in two weeks, was one of 10 American League pitchers to finish with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage and make at least 30 starts, and he started more games (33) and covered more innings (206.2) than everyone in that group. Lugo had 43 defensive chances this season, 2nd to Boston’s&nbsp;Tanner Houck&nbsp;(51) for the AL lead. He successfully recorded 14 putouts and 29 assists, while contributing to 3 double plays, 1 shy of&nbsp;Michael Lorenzen&nbsp;and&nbsp;Casey Mize&nbsp;for the AL lead. Lugo registered 5 Defensive Runs Saved, 1 shy of&nbsp;Tanner Bibee’s&nbsp;American League-leading 6 for pitchers.

Witt Jr., 24, posted a .974 fielding percentage across 1393.2 innings, tied for the 2nd-highest mark by a qualified American League shortstop, behind Texas’&nbsp;Corey Seager&nbsp;(.983, 959.1 innings). He was the only shortstop in the AL to start at least 160 games, and his 1393.2 innings marked the 4th-most innings played at shortstop in franchise history, behind only a trio of seasons from&nbsp;Alcides Escobar&nbsp;in 2014 and 2016-17, headlined by his 1433.2 innings in 162 starts in 2014. Witt Jr. recorded a career-high Fielding Run Value (12), which paced American League shortstops and only trailed&nbsp;Dansby Swanson&nbsp;(14)&nbsp;of the Cubs for the Major League lead. He also logged 16 Outs Above Average, per&nbsp;Baseball Savant, the highest mark among AL shortstops, 3 ahead of New York’s&nbsp;Anthony Volpe.

According to&nbsp;FanGraphs’&nbsp;Defensive Runs Above Average (DEF), a statistic that measures a player’s defensive value relative to league average, Witt Jr.’s score of 17.6 was the 2nd best at his position behind Swanson’s 18.9, and it finished more than a full point higher than the next AL shortstop (Volpe, 16.2).&nbsp;&nbsp;

And the much-anticipated matchup between Baltimore's offense and Denver's defense? That was no contest.

Jackson threw for 280 yards and three touchdowns to finish with a perfect passer rating, Derrick Henry surpassed a few more rushing milestones, and the Ravens scored on seven consecutive possessions on their way to a 41-10 victory over the Broncos on Sunday.

Jackson missed practice Wednesday and Thursday. He and coach John Harbaugh described it as rest, although the team listed him with back and knee issues. He looked plenty ready on game day.

“I knew what the assignment was,” Jackson said. “I definitely studied those guys.”

Baltimore's beleaguered defense didn't force a punt until the third quarter, but a couple early fourth-down stops helped the Ravens (6-3) build a lead as they rebounded from last weekend's&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/browns-ravens-325f249c6528f9f451873f34e4dfad8f">surprising loss at Cleveland</a>. Zay Flowers had five catches for 127 yards and two touchdowns, and Henry rushed for 106 yards and two TDs.

Rookie quarterback Bo Nix caught a touchdown pass on&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/Broncos/status/1853149771554271400">a trick play</a>&nbsp;for Denver, but the Broncos (5-4) looked outclassed at the beginning of a tough two-game stretch on their schedule. They visit Kansas City next weekend.

Henry scored the 100th and 101st rushing touchdowns of his career, and he surpassed 1,000 yards on the ground on the season for the sixth time. Henry has scored in every game this season, and he is the third player to manage at least 10 rushing TDs in seven consecutive years, joining LaDainian Tomlinson (2001-09) and Adrian Peterson (2007-13).

“We have been really good at running the ball for a long time, but he is different. Derrick Henry's different,” coach John Harbaugh said. “He is adding a dimension that we have not had before. I don't know. You go back to Jamal Lewis maybe.”

Jackson completed 16 of 19 passes. The perfect 158.3 passer rating was the fourth of his career — the most of any player in games with at least 15 pass attempts.

“He’s a phenomenal football player, throws the ball really well. Hard to do what he does on a consistent basis,” Nix said. “He missed some practice this week and came out and looked very sharp. Props to him. He’s a phenomenal player. That’s why he gets all the accolades that he does. It’s special to be able to share a field with a guy like that.”

Baltimore led 17-10 after a Denver field goal with 54 seconds left in the first half. Then the Ravens struck on both sides of halftime. Flowers caught a pass over the middle, eluded a tackler and raced to the end zone for&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/Ravens/status/1853156472445612261">a 53-yard TD</a>&nbsp;with 16 seconds left in the second quarter. Baltimore got the ball to start the third and made it 31-10 on a 6-yard run by Henry.

“It’s a big swing,” Broncos coach Sean Payton said. “You know when you play a good team like this on the road you want to get into the fourth quarter and we weren’t able to do that.”

Denver had allowed only two teams to reach 20 points this season, but the matchup with Baltimore's powerful offense did not go well. The Broncos' defense held after Nix threw an early interception, but after Denver was stopped on fourth-and-1, the Ravens drove 57 yards and opened the scoring on Henry's 7-yard run.

Another fourth-down failure — Nix overthrew an open Troy Franklin deep — was followed by a Baltimore field goal that made it 10-0.

The Broncos finally converted on fourth down from the Baltimore 2 with a reverse pass from receiver Courtland Sutton to Nix. The Ravens defended it decently, but Nix was able to make the catch at the goal line for a touchdown.

Jackson answered with a 7-yard scoring pass to Flowers to put Baltimore up 17-7.

Fullback Patrick Ricard caught Jackson's final TD toss of the day, a 3-yarder in the third.

Nix threw for 223 yards. That brought his season total to 1,753, surpassing Mickey Slaughter (1,689) for the most yards passing by a Broncos rookie quarterback. John Elway threw for 1,663 in his debut season of 1983.

Baltimore has rushed for at least 100 yards in 42 consecutive games, one shy of the NFL record the Ravens share with Pittsburgh. ... Baltimore also has at least one sack in 47 straight.

Baltimore CB Marlon Humphrey returned from a knee injury that kept him out last weekend.

🏈 Jackson produces perfect passer rating as Ravens rout Broncos 

STORRS, Conn. - The 23rd-ranked Fort Hays State women's basketball team opened the 2024-25 season with an exhibition game against UConn Sunday afternoon, falling to the second-ranked Huskies 89-49.

The Tigers held their own in the first quarter, trailing just 15-11 after 10 minutes of play.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/olivia-hollenbeck/8329">Olivia Hollenbeck</a>&nbsp;led the Tigers with six points in the opening frame, hitting 2-of-3 from the floor and adding a pair of free throws while blocking two shots and poking away a pair of steals.

The Huskies started to pull away in the second quarter, closing the first half on a 24-3 run to take a 42-17 lead into the locker room.

UConn pushed its lead to 35 early in the third quarter, but the Tigers closed the frame on an 11-2 run to narrow the gap to 26, 62-36.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/megan-earney/8328">Megan Earney</a>&nbsp;opened the run with a 3-pointer on a dish from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/brooke-loewe/8331">Brooke Loewe</a>&nbsp;before Loewe scored three points the traditional way on the next trip down the floor.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/ellie-stearns/8333">Ellie Stearns</a>&nbsp;later knocked down her second 3-pointer of the game before&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/talexa-weeter/8335">Talexa Weeter</a>&nbsp;scored the final two points of the period with a pair of free throws.

The home team then opened the fourth quarter with a 23-2 run, knocking down 8-of-13 from the floor over the first seven minutes of the period while holding the Tigers to 1-of-9 shooting. Fort Hays State then scored nine of the final 11 points of the game, including two buckets from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/sarah-lawless/8338">Sarah Lawless</a>, one from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/maddy-powell/8554">Maddy Powell</a>&nbsp;and a 3-pointer from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/sasha-koenig/8330">Sasha Koenig</a>.

Hollenbeck led the Tigers with nine points alongside four rebounds, three steals, three blocks and one assist. Ten other Tigers also found their way to the scoresheet, including seven points from Weeter, six for Stearns and five each from Loewe and Powell. Loewe collected a team-high seven rebounds, while Powell distributed a team-best three assists.

The Tigers knocked down seven 3-pointers on the day, with six different Tigers connecting from long range. FHSU finished the game shooting 29 percent from the floor (18-of-62) and 28 percent from behind the arc (7-of-25), while UConn hit 50 percent from the floor (37-of-74) and 37.1 percent from deep (13-of-35). The Huskies outrebounded FHSU 53-33 while the Tigers turned the ball over five more times, 17-12.Paige Bueckers led all scorers with 27 points on 12-of-14 shooting while adding nine rebounds.

The Tigers will open the regular season next weekend (Nov. 8-9) at the Central Region Showcase in St. Joseph, Mo. FHSU will play Augustana on Friday and MSU Moorehead on Saturday, with both games beginning at 12:30 p.m.

CLAREMORE, Okla. – A late Fort Hays State comeback effort came up short on Sunday (Nov. 3). The Tigers fell 2-1 to Rogers State and moved to 7-6-4 overall and 4-5-2 in MIAA play. The Hillcats improved to 3-11-3 and 2-6-3 in the conference.

Rogers State scored both of its goals a minute apart in the first half. In the 24th&nbsp;minute, Sophia Wickenden found the back of the net on a header in the box off a corner kick from Alix Tirado-Negrete. A minute later, Tirado-Negrete doubled the lead with a shot in close off a crossing pass from Amaris Jasso.

Fort Hays State's defense held firm through the remainder of the match, with goalkeeper&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-soccer/roster/mackenzie-caldwell/8128">Mackenzie Caldwell</a>&nbsp;making four saves to keep the Tigers within striking distance. The deal also included a club option for 2028.Wacha, 33, completed his 12th season in the Majors in 2024 and first with Kansas City. He made 29 starts and recorded 166.2 innings, the 2nd-highest total of his career and most since 2015 (181.1 IP). His 3.35 ERA (62 ER in 166.2 IP) in 2024 ranked 10th in the American League, helping Kansas City’s starting rotation rank 2nd in the Majors with a 3.55 ERA.

Wacha went 13-8 in 2024 and earned his 100th career win on Sept. 8, becoming one of 20 active pitchers with 100 wins. PARK CITY, Kan. - Wrestling in the same building that hosted the 2024 NCAA Division II Men's Wrestling Championships in March, the Fort Hays State men's wrestling team kicked off the 2024-25 campaign at the Falcon Open hosted by Friends University on Saturday at Park City Arena. The Tigers had 27 wrestlers compete, with four advancing to the quarterfinals, two reaching the semifinals and one achieving a top four placement.

FHSU had 25 wrestlers entered in the elite division and two in the amateur division. The Tigers combined for a record of 32-53 on the day, with 18 wrestlers winning at least one bout and 11 picking up multiple victories.

<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/tereus-henry/8295">Tereus Henry</a>, a former All-American at 197 pounds that opened the year ranked eighth in the NWCA Coaches Poll, placed fourth after turning in a record of 3-2 on the day. He picked up a 1-0 decision in his first bout before recording a convincing 11-0 major decision in the quarterfinals. He then lost to the eventual champion Ryker Blackburn from Saint Mary in sudden victory before bouncing back with a 5-2 decision in the consolation semifinals. His day ended with a loss in the third-place bout to the second-ranked wrestler in the NAIA at 197 pounds.

Three other Tigers also reached the quarterfinals alongside Henry, including&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/marcell-dely/8293">Marcell Dely</a>&nbsp;at 157 pounds,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/cason-lindsey/8300">Cason Lindsey</a>&nbsp;at 165 pounds and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/riah-ostrander/8302">Riah Ostrander</a>&nbsp;at 285 pounds. Dely finished the day at 3-2 including two bonus-point wins, including a pin in 1:53 and a major decision. Lindsey won his quarterfinal matchup with a pin in 4:22 but was then forced to medically forfeit the remainder of his matches. Ostrander was 1-2 on the day with a major decision in his first bout of the day.

<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/jacob-judd/8315">Jacob Judd</a>&nbsp;matched Dely and Henry with a team-high three wins on the day, doing so in the 165-pound bracket. The freshman lost to the eventual champion in the first round before rattling off three-consecutive wins in the consolation bracket. He recorded two bonus-point victories in the process, completing a pin in 1:12 and racking up a 14-3 major decision.

EMPORIA - Fort Hays State rushed for over 300 yards for a second-straight week and picked up their first road win of the season with a dominant 36-7 win over #11/13 Emporia State on a rain-soaked Saturday afternoon at Welch Stadium. It was the Tigers third win over a ranked team this season as they improved to 7-3 overall and 5-3 in the MIAA. ESU, who had their 9-game home win streak snapped, dropped to 7-2 overall and 5-2 in the MIAA.

The win snapped Fort Hays State's three-game losing-streak to the Hornets and was their first win in Emporia since 2014.

The FHSU defense held ESU to a season-low 165 yards of offense. They set the tone early forcing the first of eight 3-and-out on the Hornets first possession of the game. The Tiger offense then drove 60-yards in 10 plays and grabbed the early lead on a 30-yard Carson Arndt field goal. 

The lead would grow to 5-0 when the Hornets snapped the ball over their punter's head which rolled out of the back of the endzone for a safety. The game was then halted due to lightning before the Hornets free kick.

Shane Watts pushed the Tigers lead to 12-0 when he scored on a 43-yard touchdown run on the first play of the second quarter.&nbsp;ESU scored its only touchdown of the game later in the quarter when Tyler Kahmann scored on a 45-yard touchdown reception after breaking a tackle in the Tiger secondary. FHSU quickly answered on the next possession with a 69-yard touchdown run which pushed the lead to 19-7.

Watts had his second-straight&nbsp;200-yard rushing game, going for a career-best 250 yards on 28 carries. He became the first player in Fort Hays State history to rush for 200 yards in back-to-back games. He also became the 20th Tiger to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season. Quarterback Caleb Heavner added 72 yards on the ground on 22 attempts. The Tigers finished with 331 rushing yards as a team, a new season high after going for 301 the previous week against Missouri Southern State.

After another weather delay before the start of the second half, the Tigers continued their dominance in the second half. A 54-yard run by Watts set up a 7-yard touchdown Heavner touchdown run, pushing the lead to 26-7. Later in the quarter, Heavner connected with Jabari Lewis on a&nbsp;7-yard touchdown pass to make the score 33-7. Arndt tacked on a 36-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter for the final score.

Fort Hays State has had 200-yard rushers in back-to-back games twice in its history, but both times it was accomplished by two separate players. The last time it occurred was in 2002 when Dustin Demel ran for 291 against Fort Lewis (10/12/02) and Charles Lewis ran for 221 at Panhandle State (10/19/02). Prior to that in 1997, Donald Gregory ran for 234 against Wayne State (Neb.) (9/27/97) and Terry Blassingame ran for 232 at Mesa State (10/4/97). This was the first time ever it was done by the same player.

Watts' 250 rushing yards ranks fifth-most for a single game in school history, the most since Shaquille Cooper's 263 against Northeastern State on September 10, 2015.

It was the Tigers third win over a ranked team this season as they improved to 7-3 overall and 5-3 in the MIAA. The lead would grow to 5-0 when the Hornets snapped the ball over their punter's head which rolled out of the back of the endzone for a safety. The game was then halted due to lightning before the Hornets free kick.Shane Watts pushed the Tigers lead to 12-0 when he scored on a 43-yard touchdown run on the first play of the second quarter.&nbsp;ESU scored its only touchdown of the game later in the quarter when Tyler Kahmann scored on a 45-yard touchdown reception after breaking a tackle in the Tiger secondary. 🏈 Tigers run past #11 Hornets on rainy day in Emporia



GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Fort Hays State Women's Wrestling had a strong showing at its first tournament of the 2024-25 season on Saturday.

&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/isabella-renfro/8286">Isabella Renfro</a>&nbsp;was champion of the 180 class, while six other Tigers posted runner-up finishes in their respective classes. Overall, the Tigers had 20 top-six placers out of the 23 individuals competing in the tournament.

Renfro maintained her undefeated record for the season at 180 after a pair of dual wins the night before. She dominated with four-straight falls to win her class in times of 52 seconds, 2:29, 47 seconds, and 3:18. She defeated Katie Law of Utah Tech in the final. All of her opponents were from NCAA schools. Renfro is now 6-0 on the season after her first collegiate tournament title.

The six runner-up finishers included&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/lindsey-lopez/8284">Lindsey Lopez</a>&nbsp;(117),&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/lexie-lopez/8283">Lexie Lopez</a>&nbsp;(124),&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/jamie-laswell/8282">Jamie Laswell</a>&nbsp;(131),&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/nichole-moore/8375">Nichole Moore</a>&nbsp;(138),&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/kaylee-ricketts/8218">Kaylee Ricketts</a>&nbsp;(160), and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/ciara-monger/8285">Ciara Monger</a>&nbsp;(207). Laswell and Ricketts wrestled the most matches of this group, both going 4-1 on the day. Laswell recorded two falls, a tech fall, and a decision on her way to the final, where she lost by fall to Kaidence Gerg wrestling unattached. Ricketts had a pair of decisions and a pair of falls before dropping a tight 6-4 decision to Gretchen Donnaly of Colorado Mesa in the final.

The Lopez sisters and Moore all went 3-1 on the day, while Monger was 2-1 for the day.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/lindsey-lopez/8284">Lindsey Lopez</a>&nbsp;recorded a pair of tech falls and a decision before being on the short end of an 11-0 tech fall by Alexis Hanks of Texas Woman's in the final.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/lexie-lopez/8283">Lexie Lopez</a>&nbsp;recorded three-straight tech falls before dropping the final by tech fall to Tiare Ikei of Titan Mercury Wrestling Club. Monger picked up her two wins by fall before losing 10-3 to No. 4 ranked Jayleen Sekona of Colorado Mesa in the final.

🤼‍♀️ Renfro champion, six runner-up finishers for Tiger women at Maverick Open

HOUSTON (AP) — Zeon Chriss threw for 103 yards and a touchdown without an incompletion as Houston rallied in fourth quarter to beat No. 17 Kansas State 24-19 on Saturday.

Trailing 19-10 to start the fourth quarter, Chriss threw a 1-yard touchdown to Maliq Carr with 11 minutes left. After forcing a punt, Chriss rushed for a 41-yard touchdown with 2:31 to go.

Chriss, who finished 11 of 11, also rushed for 75 yards and caught a pass for eight yards.

“We’ve experienced a lot (of adversity) this season,” Chriss said. “We were trying to be positive about it, and trust in the defense. The defense told us ‘We got y’all,’ and we got them.”

Linebacker Michael Batton intercepted Kansas State quarterback Avery Johnson on the next drive.

After Houston (4-5, 3-3 Big 12) was forced to punt with 40 seconds left, the Wildcats drove to the Cougars’ 39 with 4 seconds left, but Johnson’s heave was knocked out of the end zone.

“We didn’t play a perfect game, but we played well enough to win, and that’s what matters,” Houston coach Willie Fritz said.

The win was Houston’s first win over a ranked team since beating No. 19 SMU 44-37 on Oct. 30, 2021.

“They’re going to start believing,” Fritz said about Houston’s second straight one-possession win. “We got to keep going.”

The loss snapped Kansas State’s four-game winning streak.

Wildcats coach Chris Klieman said his team didn’t play “with good enough fundamentals and techniques" and pointed to Kansas State’s inability to run the ball, as they finished with 89 yards rushing.

“We weren’t running the ball a lick,” Klieman said. “Our inability to rush the football makes it harder to throw.”

Johnson finished 23 of 39 for 238 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions and found Keagan Johnson for a 7-yard touchdown pass with nine seconds left in the first half to give the Wildcats (7-2, 4-2) a 16-10 halftime lead. Johnson finished with 76 yards receiving.

“It just felt like we were flat offensively,” Avery Johnson said. “We couldn’t get anything going. We stalled a lot in the second half. We didn’t really play collectively as well as we wanted to.”

DJ Giddens rushed for 50 yards and a touchdown as Kansas State outgained the Cougars 327-232.

“I don’t want to take anything away from them, but I feel like the words to describe it was we let it slip away,” Keagan Johnson said. “They’re a good team. They played better today. It comes down to that. We didn’t execute when we needed to.”

The game was delayed 55 minutes to start because of lightning.

Kansas State: The loss hurts the chances of the Wildcats making the Big 12 championship and the College Football Playoff.

Houston: The Cougars finished 3 for 3 in the red zone after struggling last week against Utah.

Kansas State could potentially drop out of the rankings after the loss.

Kansas State hosts Arizona State on Nov. 16, while Houston plays at Arizona on Nov. 15.

Fort Hays State was in control all afternoon, trailing only twice in the match and never by more than two points. The Tigers took an early 5-3 lead before rattling off five-straight points to take a commanding 10-3 lead. Pittsburg State managed to close within one at 12-11 before the Tigers pushed the lead back up to five. The Gorillas hung around, using a 7-1 run to take their first lead of the day at 22-21. Pittsburg State responded with a 6-1 run to close within three, 10-7, but the Tigers punched back to stretch the lead back to six. 1A The Quinter Bulldogs claimed the 1A Boys team title over Pratt-Skyline and Meade on Saturday. Elliot Chruchwell led the Bulldogs with a third place finish. Hans Deaton was seventh and Kendrick Selensky crossed in twelfth.&nbsp;

Broxton Gall of Ness City was state runner-up crossing in 17:08.61.

Avery Boydston from Ellis ran a 19.32.33 time to claim the 1A girls championship. Quinter's Brooklyn Countryman placed in 13th. Cheyenne Hoeting of Stockton was 15th.&nbsp;

The Ness City girls finished third as a team in the same 1A race. Stephany Esparza led the way with a 14th finish.&nbsp;

2A Michael Haffner led the Hoxie Indians with a 9th place finish and Aaron Keith followed his teammate in 12th. Hoxie finished just six points from a state trophy in fourth place.

Madison Howland crossed the line in 18:50.76 as the state champion. She won by just shy of 33 seconds.

The Hoxie girls placed third as a team. Taegan Lindeman led the team with a sixth place finish.&nbsp;

3A Norton's Emma Collins, 10th, and Kaison Miller, 16th,&nbsp; finished inside the top 20. Tianna Lutters of Hoisington was 17th.

In the boys' race Kamden Tarlton of Hoisington, 9th, and Brody Rossman, 14th, both of Hoisington took home a state medal.
