KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fort Hays State Men's Soccer remained No. 4 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 rankings, released on Tuesday. The Tigers are among the top-5 nationally for the fourth-straight week, ranked No. 4 three times and No. 5 once within that span.

Fort Hays State went 1-0 last week, a 3-2 comeback win at Newman after being down two goals with only 26 minutes to play. The win locked up an unbeaten regular season for the Tigers at 15-0-3 overall, and an 11-0-1 mark in GAC play.  Fort Hays State owns the best win-loss-tie percentage in NCAA Division II and the most wins overall.

Fort Hays State clinched the rights to host the GAC Tournament on November 13 and 15 at FHSU Soccer Stadium in Hays by winning the conference regular season title. It was the fourth conference regular season title in program history, which started in 2011. FHSU will face Northeastern State in the semifinals on Thursday (Nov. 13) and the winner of that match will move on to face either Rogers State or Newman in the championship match on Saturday (Nov. 15).

Fort Hays State is on its longest unbeaten streak to start a season in program history at 18 matches, and it is the longest unbeaten streak in program history regardless of point in time. The previous program record for unbeaten streak at any point was 16, set by the 2018 team that played in the national semifinals of the NCAA Tournament.

Fort Hays State and Rogers State continue as the two teams from the GAC represented in the Top 25. The Hillcats are tied for No. 13 in the latest poll with an overall record of 12-2-4. Rogers State's only two losses this year were to Fort Hays State. Northeastern State remained in the receiving votes section of the latest poll.

Fort Hays State and Charleston are the only teams in the top 10 this week that remain unbeaten for the season. There are four total teams in the top 25 without a loss this season, which also includes No. 15 Lincoln (Mo.) and No. 17 Cedarville (Ohio). FHSU, Cedarville, and Lincoln are all part of NCAA Super Region 3.

Fort Hays State is the national leader in goal differential (+46), corner kicks per match (8.61), shots per match (19.2), wins (15), and win-loss-tie percentage (.917). The Tigers rank second nationally in shots on goal per match (8.78) and shutout percentage (.722), and third in total goals (54), total assists (51), total points (159), scoring offense (3.00), and assists per match (2.83).

The Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association released its preseason rankings this week, with several area student-athletes among the top entering the 2025-26 high school wrestling season.

Hays High has four wrestlers ranked. Senior Jonathan Rigler is preseason No. 1 at 190, junior Cyler Luck is No. 3 at 106, senior Jaxson Chartier is ranked fifth at 215 and Tanner Giest is fifth at 285.

The Hays High girls are eighth in the team rankings; two spots below rival Great Bend. 

The Indians will begin the season with five ranked wrestlers led by junior Timber Lovewell who is No. 2 at 145. Senior Reese Vehige is ranked fourth at 125, senior Lexi Barnett is also fourth at 155. Junior Emersyn Copper is No. 6 at 100 and junior Eleanor Stoffel is sixth at 190.

Norton will open the season No. 1 with Hoxie ranked third, Smith Center seventh and Russell eighth.

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The Kansas City Royals announced today they acquired right-handed pitcher Mason Black from the San Francisco Giants for right-handed pitcher Logan Martin. Black was designated for assignment by the Giants last week. Including Black, Kansas City’s Major League Reserve List is now at 37.

Black, 25, had just one stint with the Giants in 2025 and made his only appearance of the season on July 4 vs. the Athletics in Sacramento, where he covered 4.0 innings in relief and struck out 5 batters.

He spent the remainder of this season with the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats, going 3-10 with a 5.81 ERA (77 ER in 119.1 IP) over 30 appearances (24 starts). He recorded 114 strikeouts (8.6 K/9), which ranked 9th most among all Giants minor leaguers this year.

Black debuted with San Francisco in 2024 and appeared in 9 games (8 starts) while pitching to a 6.44 ERA (26 ER in 36.1 IP) with 31 strikeouts.

He was selected by the Giants in the 3rd round of the 2021 Draft out of Lehigh University (Pa.). He made his Major League debut on May 6, 2024 at Citizens Bank Park, which is approximately two hours south of his hometown of Archibald, Pa.

Since the start of 2022, he’s recorded 492 strikeouts over 439.1 innings pitched (10.1 K/9) in 103 minor league games (97 starts), leading all Giants farmhands over that span.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Linebacker Alex Singleton, the Denver Broncos' leading tackler and co-captain, underwent surgery for testicular cancer Friday, less than 24 hours after collecting nine tackles in a 10-7 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Singleton played in the game four days after learning he had cancer. He'll miss this weekend's showdown against the Kansas City Chiefs (5-4) and is hopeful of returning to action in the coming weeks. The Broncos have a bye after facing the Chiefs.

“Our No. 1 priority is Alex’s health and well-being, and we are grateful it appears the cancer was caught early,” the Broncos said in a statement on X.

Singleton informed his teammates and coaches during Monday’s team meeting that he'd had surgery for testicular cancer, which was diagnosed a week earlier after a routine NFL drug test detected abnormalities.

After telling the team, Singleton spoke with reporters on a conference call. He said he was able to compartmentalize his cancer diagnosis and play against the Raiders just days later because “football's always been an outlet for me.”

His nine tackles Thursday night helped the Broncos improve to 8-2 with their seventh straight win.

He had surgery the next morning to remove the tumor, and he said a CT scan showed the cancer hadn't spread.

“The short week honestly made it better,” Singleton said. "On Tuesday, Wednesday, I got to fully immerse myself in football and ... get this off of my mind as much as I could because we weren't going to know anything until after the surgery anyway — and still don't 100% know everything.

“So, the biggest thing for me was how to get my mind off it, so football was the best thing to do that. Playing Thursday night here in our throwbacks made me able to block out everything that was going on in my mind.”

Singleton said he was thankful for the support he's gotten from his teammates, coaches, management and ownership, saying, “I feel like I'm disappointing them having to miss a game. That's how I feel about it. It's such a shock and such news to me. So, just to have the support and just love from them means so much.”

Singleton said he wants to advocate for early screening for testicular cancer now.

“This journey I'm going to continue talking about it and sharing it with you guys and everybody else just knowing that there shouldn't be a big stigma behind it,” Singleton said.

“Yeah, we can get the word out to get everybody screened and checked. Don't be afraid of the doctor, because I was for a long time.”

Singleton playing a game with the diagnosis hanging over him “doesn't surprise me,” said linebacker Justin Strnad, who will fill in for Singleton. “He's the ultimate competitor, ultimate team player. He had the knee (surgery) last year. He's been through a lot in this league and this is obviously a big obstacle, but he's going to overcome it and we're all going to be here to help him through it.”

The Broncos are already without star cornerback Pat Surtain II, who's recovering from a strained pectoral muscle and will also miss this weekend's game. Singleton normally wears the green dot on the helmet to communicate with the coaches, so his absence will require several adjustments.

Misner, 27, played in 71 games with Tampa Bay in 2025 and hit .213 (42-for-197) with 15 extra-base hits and 8 stolen bases in 217 plate appearances. He made 57 starts, including 42 in center field, 12 in right field and 3 in left field.

Misner made the Rays Opening Day roster this season for the first time in his career. On Opening Day, he entered in the 8th inning on defense and hit a walk-off home run in the 9th, becoming the first player in Major League history to hit his 1st career home run in walk-off fashion on Opening Day.

Misner made his Major League debut in 2024, when he appeared in 8 games with the Rays.

He was originally selected by Kansas City in the 33rd round of the 2016 Draft out of Poplar Bluff High School (Mo.), but elected to attend the University of Missouri. Three years later, he was selected by Miami in the 1st round (35th overall) of the 2019 Draft. Following the 2021 season, Misner was acquired by Tampa Bay for infielder Joey Wendle.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Josh Simmons has returned to the team after dealing with a family matter that kept him away for several weeks, though it remains unclear when the first-round draft pick will be back on the field for them.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid told local reporters Monday that the former Ohio State standout, who had been replaced by Jaylon Moore in the starting lineup, would get back into the offensive line mix as the team returned from its bye.

Kansas City is preparing to visit the AFC West-leading Broncos for a crucial divisional matchup Sunday.

“I think what we'll do is see where we're at here,” Reid said. “We know we've got a good player in there now and we know what Josh is capable of and all that, so we'll just see where we're at when they get back.”

Simmons earned the starting job on Patrick Mahomes' blindside early in fall camp, and he had exceeded almost all expectations through the first part of the season. But the 22-year-old suddenly left the team before its Week 6 game against the Detroit Lions, and the Chiefs have been intentionally vague about the circumstances surrounding his departure.

Reid has only said that Simmons was dealing with "a family matter" and provided no timetable for his return, though Mahomes and other players have said they had their teammate in their thoughts during his absence.

“Players always are concerned about other players' wellbeing first of all,” Reid said, “but on the other hand, they move forward, and they don't necessarily look back. They giddy-up and go on, what's there today and let's go. And they go a hundred miles an hour. So I think it's a blend of things. They're not dwelling on that but they want to make sure he's OK as a human being.”

Moore stepped into the lineup against the Lions just hours after his wife gave birth to a baby girl. And while there have been a few missteps along the way, the former San Francisco backup has played well in Simmons' place.

“Just asking him to jump in after the season's been going for a couple of months here, that's a tough ask,” Reid said, “especially against the defensive lines we've been playing. But he's done a respectable job.”

Reid also said right tackle Jawaan Taylor, who had left the Chiefs' loss to the Bills two weeks ago with an ankle injury, was doing better even before the team began its week off. It appears he will be available against the Broncos on Sunday.

Reid sounded less optimistic about running back Isiah Pacheco, who hurt his knee against the Commanders on Oct. 27.

The Chiefs are just 5-4 at the midway point of the season, leaving them staring up at the Broncos (8-2) and Chargers (7-3) in the division race. And with a loss already to Los Angeles, the Chiefs begin the second half in desperation mode not just to keep alive their streak of nine consecutive division titles but simply to make the playoffs.

“You know in this league every game is important. You have to stay focused on that," Reid said, "and it doesn't matter what you project or what's happened before. You learn from your past and take care of what's going on today. We'll get the players back on Tuesday and then we're all in on Denver. That's kind of where we're at. Is there an urgency? There should be an urgency every week, and that's how this league is. There's too much parity in this league not to have urgency every week.”

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Kansas City Royals today announced their 2026 regular season home game times. The regular season scheduled was released in August. All game times are subject to change.

After a 3-game series in Atlanta vs. the Braves on March 26, 28 and 29 to begin the season, the Royals will open their home slate on Monday, March 30 at 3:10 p.m. vs. the Minnesota Twins at Kauffman Stadium. Following an off day on Tuesday, March 31, the Royals will continue the 3-game series vs. the Twins on Wednesday, April 1 and Thursday, April 2, both of which will be 6:40 p.m. starts.

The Royals will host 34 weeknight games, all of which will start at 6:40 p.m. In April and May, the Royals 5 Friday night home games will begin at 6:40 p.m. In the remaining months, 6 of their 7 Friday night home games will start at 7:10 p.m., the only exception being their final Friday night home game on Sept. 25, which will start at 6:40 p.m.

There will be 12 Saturday home games, including 5 that will begin at 3:10 p.m., 6 that will start at 6:10 p.m. and 1 that will begin at 7:10 p.m., on July 4. There will be 13 Sunday games, 12 of which are scheduled for 1:10 p.m. The lone exception is the regular season finale on Sept. 27, which will begin at 2:10 p.m.

The NCAA revoked the eligibility of six men’s college basketball players&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/ncaa-basketball-sports-betting-a30eaa5f0ec65c4638a8cd01a10842b2">for allegations of sports betting</a>&nbsp;on Friday in three separate cases at New Orleans, Mississippi Valley and Arizona State.

The NCAA Committee on Infractions released findings from an investigation that concluded Cedquavious Hunter, Dyquavian Short, Jamond Vincent, Donovan Sanders, Alvin Stredic and Chatton “BJ” Freeman either manipulated their performances to lose games, not cover bet lines or ensure certain prop bets were reached, or provided information that enabled others to do so during the 2024-25 regular season.

The development comes as the sporting world contends with mounting scrutiny over betting. Nearly three dozen people were arrested last month,&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/nba-betting-arrests-rozier-billups-6e39ab0b6b82c3c872e17c3b9cfbc604">including an NBA player and coach</a>, for what federal law enforcement officials described as their involvement in various illicit gambling activities. Just this week, UFC President and CEO Dana White said he was in touch with the FBI regarding a match that involved unusual betting patterns.

For its part, the NCAA said last month it was investigating at least 30 current or former players for gambling allegations. The NCAA also banned&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/gambling-ncaa-fresno-state-san-jose-state-79cb4a2a1f9f23a2cb22902a9694aca1">three college basketball players</a>&nbsp;in September for betting on their own games at Fresno State and San Jose State.

The violations at New Orleans against Hunter, Short and Vincent came to light after the NCAA received a tip about game manipulation. The NCAA said a student-athlete overheard the three players discuss a third party placing a bet on their game against McNeese State on Dec. 28, 2024. New Orleans lost 86-61.

That same student-athlete reported that during a timeout near the end of the game, Short instructed him not to score any more points. New Orleans suspended all three student-athletes for the remainder of the season while it investigated the allegations.

The NCAA investigation showed that the three players manipulated their performances in seven games from December through January to lose by more points than the spread for that game.

The violations against Freeman were uncovered when the NCAA reviewed text messages involving Mykell Robinson, who played at Fresno State. Records on Robinson’s phone indicated that on four separate occasions between November and December 2024, Freeman knowingly provided information to Robinson, who was betting on Freeman through daily fantasy sports accounts.

Freeman also knowingly provided information on at least two occasions to his then-girlfriend, who was also betting on Freeman.

The NCAA reached out to an integrity monitoring service to review Mississippi Valley games after a related, but separate NBA&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/nba-betting-prop-terry-rozier-bf290e76f66d4ff2c2aaf653ecb76b1e">gambling ring</a>&nbsp;that was uncovered earlier this year showed potential ties to college basketball, including the school.

The service indicated betting trends for the Mississippi Valley games on Jan. 6 against Alabama A&amp;M were suspicious. Mississippi Valley lost 79-67.

During an interview with the NCAA, a men’s basketball student-athlete said that before the team’s Dec. 21, 2024, game, he overhead Sanders on the phone with an unknown third party talking about “throwing the game.”

Sanders asked the student-athlete to participate in the call because the third party had told Sanders the individual intended to bet on the game and wanted to know that another of Sanders’ teammates would participate in the scheme.

The student-athlete denied altering his performance or receiving money from Sanders or any other individuals. Sanders texted the same student-athlete after that game and told him to delete their messages.

During a second interview, Sanders could not explain the student-athlete’s account of the events or the text messages. He did say, however, that he and Stredic were offered money to throw the team’s Jan. 6 game by another anonymous caller, who instructed them to perform poorly in the first half.

The enforcement staff demonstrated that Sanders knowingly provided information to a third party for the purposes of sports betting for two games and Stredic did the same for one game.

This all comes in the wake of the NCAA potentially allowing student athletes and staff to bet on professional sports. It was originally approved by all three Divisions and was set to go into effect on Nov. 1, but late last month the Division I Board voted to delay the start date until Nov. 22.

A rarely used rule allows 30 days for each Division I school to vote to rescind a proposal if it is adopted by less than 75% of the Division I cabinet. Even if the rule passes, no college sports are allowed to be bet on by players.

🏀Haggerty's double-double carries Kansas State past Bellarmine

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Quincy Craig scored his second touchdown of the game on a 24-yard run with 39 seconds left in regulation and Arizona rallied to beat Kansas 24-20 on Saturday.

Coming off&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/arizona-colorado-football-score-b8f3447b44b76f3f06f7ed30c0214357">a blowout win over Colorado</a>, the Wildcats (6-3, 3-3 Big 12) had a hard time moving the ball against a defense that entered the game ranked 12th in the Big 12.

Noah Fifita threw an early touchdown pass, but was sacked five times and nearly had three passes intercepted before rallying Arizona to become bowl eligible.

“We knew it was going to be an incredible battle and our players kept responding,” Arizona coach Brent Brennan said. “They kept responding and responding. ... I know it wasn't perfect, but we'll fix that.”

After Kansas' Laith Marjan pushed a 30-yard field goal wide right — his first miss in 15 attempts this season — the Wildcats took over at their own 20 with 2:39 left. Arizona moved quickly down the field and Craig burst through a big hole up the middle for the go-ahead score.

"That was definitely one of my favorite touchdowns I’ve experienced," said Craig, who had 47 yards rushing on three carries.

The Jayhawks (5-5, 3-4) controlled Arizona's offense for most of the game, holding the Wildcats to 323 total yards — nearly 100 yards below their season average. They also held Fifita to 158 yards and two touchdowns on 16-of-31 passing.

Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels threw for 199 yards and a touchdown, adding 74 yards and another score rushing. His desperation attempt bounded out of the end zone as time expired.

“We were able to throw a very accurate quarterback really out of rhythm there for a while,” Kansas coach Lance Leipold said. “But they made the plays down the stretch.”

Fifita showed off his dual-threat skill set on Arizona's second drive, breaking off a 19-yard run — his longest of the season — and floating a 16-yard touchdown pass to tight end Sam Olson just as he got hit.

Daniels took his two-way turn on the Jayhawks' next two drives. He scored on a 1-yard keeper set up by a 14-yard run, then hit Emmanuel Henderson Jr. in stride for a 24-yard touchdown.

Kansas appeared to be headed to a 24-7 halftime lead when Leroy Harris III returned an interception 77 yards for a touchdown. Instead, it came back when cornerback Jalen Todd was called for holding away from the play.

Craig scored on an 8-yard touchdown two plays later by reaching the ball to the pylon, pulling Arizona within 17-14 at halftime.

The defenses took over in the second half.

Kansas had one interception overturned upon review and Syeed Gibbs had another potential pick pass through his hands.

Leipold was inclined to go for it on fourth-and-2 in Arizona's 11 with a three-point lead in the closing minutes.

The officials called an injury timeout for Daniels, who was hurt on the previous play, so he couldn't go back in even if Kansas called a timeout. Leipold opted to go for a field goal and a six-point lead, but Marjan missed his first kick of the season.

🏈 Quincy Craig scores with 39 seconds left as Arizona beats KU

MITCHELL, S.D. - The Fort Hays State men's wrestling team had three competitors reach the podium at the season-opening DWU Open Saturday (Nov. 8). Cash Thomas went 5-1 on the day to place third at 157 pounds, while Ryan Patterson (197) and Riah Ostrander (285) both finished in fifth place.

The 25 Tiger competitors combined for 37 wins on the day, including 11 FHSU wrestlers with multiple victories.

Thomas reached the quarterfinal round thanks to a pair of pins that both took less than 40 seconds. The NJCAA All-American then dropped a 4-2 decision before rattling off a technical fall, a no contest and a 2-0 decision to reach the third-place match. He then faced off with Maverick Mueller of UMary for the second time and avenged his only defeat with a convincing 12-1 major decision thanks to a trio of takedowns. The Olathe, Kan. native finished his day with four bonus-point wins.

Ostrander reached the quarterfinals at 285 pounds thanks to a 16-0 technical fall in the first round and a third-period pin in round two. After dropping a 4-0 decision in the round of eight, the sophomore picked up a pin and a high-scoring 18-15 decision to reach the consolation semifinals. Ostrander then dropped a 4-1 decision in sudden victory before sharing fifth place with Liam Babitt of Minnesota State Moorhead who had also reached his six-match limit.

Patterson was the lone Tiger to reach the semifinal round, doing so after a 15-0 technical fall in the opening round and a 4-1 decision in the quarterfinal. The Peyton, Colo. native then dropped his semifinal 4-1 before suffering another narrow 5-4 loss in the consolation semis. He then claimed fifth place via medical forfeit.

Kaden Markley impressed in his Tiger debut, going 3-2 and reaching the quarterfinals at 149 pounds. The Overland Park, Kan. native opened the day with a pair of bonus-point wins over DII opponents, recording a pin in the first round and a 12-3 major decision in the second round. He then dropped a slim 4-1 decision in the quarterfinal before managing another pin in the consolation bracket, but ultimately lost again in the next round.

Hunter Harris was a scoring machine, picking up three wins via technical fall at 165 pounds. The junior finished the day 3-2 after picking up an 18-1 technical fall in his first bout and a pair of technical falls in the backside by scores of 19-2 and 19-4.

Marcell Dely was the fifth Tiger to reach the quarterfinals, doing so after a pair of early wins in the 157-pound bracket. The Budapest, Hungary native opened the day with a 6-4 decision against Sam Nachtigal of Nebraska-Kearney before picking up a first-period pin against another DII opponent. Dely then dropped a narrow 4-1 decision in sudden victory before finishing the day 2-2.

After falling to the 12th-ranked wrestler at 141 pounds in the opening round, Will Burchard picked up a pair of bonus-point wins in the consolation bracket with a technical fall and a pin before finishing the day 2-2.

D'Andre Brown (125), Jarret Mader (149), Corbin White (2-2) and Cameron Shultz (184) all joined Dely and Burchard with a 2-2 record on the day, including two bonus-point wins for Shultz and one each for Brown, Mader and White.
