HAYS, Kan. - Fort Hays State tied Missouri Western by a score of 1-1 on Friday. The Tigers picked up their goal just over a minute into the game, while the Griffons equalized with a second-half penalty kick in the 72nd minute. FHSU moved to 2-7-3 overall and 0-5-2 in the MIAA, while MWSU went to 6-2-5 overall and 3-2-2 in the MIAA.

A long free kick sent into the box from Anjaleena Gomez was mishandled a bit by goalkeeper Morgan Byrd and Berkley Sparks capitalized by striking the loose ball home for a goal. Gomez picked up an assist on the play. Sparks led the Tigers in shots in the match with three.

Misfortune struck the Tigers in the 72nd minute when a loose ball in the box jumped up off the turf and connected with the arm of a Tiger player. Kendall Knisley leveled the match with a penalty kick goal and she took seven of Missouri Western's 12 shots in the match.

The Tigers were up a player over the final 7:45 after Jaida Douch of MWSU picked up a second yellow card resulting in red. Going into the wind, the Tigers were able to get one shot off, but could not put together enough of a threat late for another go-ahead goal.

Katie Stoskopf went the distance in goal for FHSU and made four saves. Byrd finished with two saves in goal for the Griffons.

The Tigers now prep for a match with No. 3 ranked Pittsburg State on Sunday (Oct. 11), set for 12 p.m. at FHSU Soccer Stadium in Hays.
